Columbia University Students Kick Former SNL Comedian Nimesh Patel Off Stage For Making Unsafe Jokes

Event organizers apologize for "the hurt his words caused members of the community."

Nimesh Patel, a comedian and former writer for Saturday Night Live,* was yanked from the stage in the midst of his routine at Columbia University on Friday after students decided his material was homophobic, racist, and making them feel unsafe.

Columbia's Asian American Alliance (AAA) had invited Patel to perform during the group's annual charity event, "Cultureshock: Reclaim," a title that sounds a little too exciting and provocative, honestly, given the students' apparent need for maximum security and comfort.

AAA is run by students, which means it was their decision to pull Patel from the stage after he made jokes that they deemed racist and homophobic, according to The Columbia Daily Spectator. I emailed AAA to ask what exactly Patel said that was so offensive; the group sent me a statement that did not clarify matters.

The Spectator, though, lists one of the allegedly inappropriate jokes:

During the event, Patel's performance featured commentary on his experience living in a diverse area of New York City—including a joke about a gay, black man in his neighborhood—which AAA officials deemed inappropriate. Patel joked that being gay cannot be a choice because "no one looks in the mirror and thinks, 'this black thing is too easy, let me just add another thing to it.'"

The joke acknowledges that black people and gay people suffer oppression, and that a person who is both gay and black suffers "stacked" oppression. This joke seems almost perfectly "intersectional."

Intersectionality, the operarting system of the modern left, requires everyone to recognize that different forms of oppression are interrelated, and that they stack. The problem for Patel, however, is that intersectionality also recognizes the oppressed as the sole experts on their own oppression. Thus Patel should not have commented on matters relating to black people or gay people, since he is neither gay nor black.

"if you're Black and gay, you don't need a straight South Asian guy to point out that your life is hard because you're Black and gay," wrote a student, Liberty Martin, in an op-ed. Martin accused Patel of "blatant anti-blackness," with reference to the above joke, specifically. Even though the joke reflects a sentiment that gay and black students want everyone to recognize as reality—that life as a gay, black student is hard—the fact that it was made by an Asian guy means it's actually evidence of anti-black bias. (It doesn't have to make sense, you just have to obey.)

Perhaps Patel went on to say actually insensitive things—why the easily offended would attend any comedy show, ever, is fodder for another discussion—but if this joke is representative of his set, the outrage looks that much more ridiculous.

Patel made it 30 minutes before organizers cut off the routine. According to The Spectator:

Patel pushed back on the officials' remarks, and said that while he stood in solidarity with Asian American identities, none of his remarks were offensive, and he was exposing the audience to ideas that would be found "in the real world." Before he could finish, Patel's microphone was cut from off-stage, and he proceeded to leave.

AAA released a statement on Facebook condemning Patel's remarks, which "ran counter to the inclusive spirit and integrity of CultureSHOCK." They apologized for inviting Patel, and for "the hurt his words caused members of the community."

Many students in the audience agreed with AAA's decision to end the event prematurely. One told the student newspaper that Patel's jokes "contradicted the sensitive nature of the event." Another had this to say:

"I really dislike when people who are older say that our generation needs to be exposed to the real world. Obviously the world is not a safe space but just accepting that it's not and continuing to perpetuate the un-safeness of it… is saying that it can't be changed," said Jao. "When older generations say you need to stop being so sensitive, it's like undermining what our generation is trying to do in accepting others and making it safer."

When things like this happen, it's hard to deny that some college campuses have a student fragility problem.

*Update: A spokesperson for NBC reached out to clarify that Patel is no longer a writer for SNL. He left the show after last season.

If I was an outrage addict, I would be staking out campus comedy routines, too.

I used to argue that college students were adults and we should stop treating them as anything but. This kind of behavior makes that increasingly difficult.

    1. Last of the Shitlords   6 years ago

It makes me think of Someone like Little Jeffy who comments here. Just a total pussy, driven by emotions.

      1. Chipper Morning Baculum   6 years ago

The irony is that you are more driven by emotions that any other commenter, with the possible exception of a certain Mini Cooper owner.

        1. TuIpa   6 years ago

So you bought a Mini Cooper?

What an unfounded observation. But of course, you're biased by your own anger, and limited intellect.

Like "kill all the progressives" is such a coolly rational position.

        1. Ole St. Prick   6 years ago

Great ideas aren't necessarily all coolly rational.

        2. Last of the Shitlords   6 years ago

Kill all of them? No. Not necessarily. Unless they force that outcome. I would consider nearly any form of attrition to be an acceptable outcome. If they started to systematically GTFO of my country tomorrow, I would be very pleased. But if it's a choice between keeping our constitutional republic, and millions of progressives dying due to their own oppressive, hateful choices, then so be it.

Which is completely rational. Not like Little Jeffy's inanity.

        3. Rational Exuberance   6 years ago

Actually, you got that almost right. The coolly rational position we support is simply "kill all the public funding for progressives."

      3. The ghOst of mcgOo   6 years ago

Completely unlike yourself. Although you're more of a twot than a pussy, I suppose.

Jeffy, is this your sock? Why bother?

Oh, and there is no way you will ever 'trump' me in the man department. You're just a weak little kid, and not being you means I win.

              1. The ghOst of mcgOo   6 years ago

"Oh, and there is no way you will ever 'trump' me in the man department. "

Im not against raising the Age of Maturity to 21 for everything. The utter immaturity of these college kids is just shocking.

The only valid argument against a higher voting age is that you can be drafted to fight a war if you are 18.

      1. Headache   6 years ago

Who would want to fight a war with these easily offended spawn?

I can guess who would want to fight a war against the easily offended.

While the EOs viewed a dead EO with it's dick cut off and inserted in it's mouth became offended, a 5.56 FMJ pierced the viewer's skull. Easily Offended is easily terminated.

The only valid argument against a higher voting age is that you can be drafted to fight a war if you are 18.

You imply some kind of link between being able to vote and being subject to government coercion. Where does that come from? It doesn't seem to work for taxes, for example.

I think you're onto something. I would wager that most of these kids are only children, whose early socialization consisted of supervised "playdates". Bullying should start at home, and then kids would arrive at school pre toughened.

"if you're Black and gay, you don't need a straight South Asian guy to point out that your life is hard because you're Black and gay," wrote a student, Liberty Martin,

I sure hope for his/her/its sake that Liberty Martin is a gay black straight South Asian guy because otherwise he/she/it's condescending to speak outside his/her/its lane. Nobody has the right to speak for someone else!

    1. Bowerick Wowbagger   6 years ago

    2. BestUsedCarSales   6 years ago

I don't really understand why, in their system, race and sexuality generalize. Why should one gay black man have a right to speak for gay blacks as a whole. Why is it that level of granularity. No more. No less?

      1. Corey Trevor   6 years ago

It's because their whole argument falls apart and just becomes straight up oppression if individuality enters into it. It's not much of an argument for policing others' thoughts and words if you're saying life is hard for gay black men and one of them pops up and says, "Well actually mine's not too bad".

        1. Trollificus   6 years ago

They have tools to deal with that kind of inappropriate individualism: "dog whistles" and "code words", so that what you said is not what you actually meant. It is, instead, what they SAY you meant.

And for the beknighted individual who might INSIST on having their own meaning accepted, there's "false consciousness" and "internalized [misogyny/racism/homophobia]".

"It requires serious tools to deny reality, rely on Crapsman!"

        2. BruceMajors   6 years ago

Out of gay black men and women and straight black men and women, I wonder which group can most easily bag a wealthy partner.

    3. cravinbob   6 years ago

Nobody pointed anything out, he made a joke which is what he does for a living. These students decided to deprive him of his livelihood for a day because they felt an emotion they did not like. Early onset neurosis. Let us pray they will not have children which that hope has promise since they are unsure about gender and everything else. Maybe they will adopt Central Americans who will soon murder them in their sleep...in Central America.

I would like to make them even more afraid, so the Marxist morons leave things alone. Which is a good model for the elf. Leave the, too afraid of what might happen to them if they crawl out from under their rocks.

Let them all live in fear.

      1. Zeb   6 years ago

The ones living in fear are just pathetic stooges and useful idiots. I don't know what the main motivation behind this stuff is, but it's not fear. I'd guess it's more hate and bitterness.

        1. UnrepentantCurmudgeon   6 years ago

Maybe not fear. Maybe just the abiding recognition that whatever is in fact out there, they are completely unprepared to face and deal with it. After all, that has been drummed into them since early childhood.

        2. Corey Trevor   6 years ago

My theory is that we are all still hunter-gatherers. All of us, including the safe-spacers. As such, we have an irrepressible instinct to fight and kill other weaker members of our species until a kind of equalization occurs where strong opponents are evenly matched.

Modern society robs us of that, so we have to fulfill that desire in other ways. For some, it is replaced by dominance, either in business, or crime, or your career or what have you. For SJWs it's fulfilled by leveling social punishment on others. They are quite literally fulfilling their instinctual desire to fight by manipulating societal constructs to punish others.

Now, because by now in modern times society has rooted out the really egregious offenders, has basically stamped out overt racism, or has caused societal deviants to go to ground like serial killers, it's not easy to find viable targets to punish. SJWs have no choice but to bring their weapons to bear on relatively minor offenders, and because the rest of society kind of forces them into their own enclaves, those hapless minor offenders are usually one of their own.

          Hilarity ensues.

          1. D-Pizzle   6 years ago

            Good take.

    2. Zeb   6 years ago

He needs to be exposed to the real world.

I am pretty sure this guy is one of the assholes Zeb.

        1. Zeb   6 years ago

          1. Headache   6 years ago

      2. UnrepentantCurmudgeon   6 years ago

And the assholes are loading up and patiently waiting for the day that little cupcakes like this one take over here. Armageddon will come swiftly.

    So.

It's called "CultureSHOCK", but nothing actually shocking will be in it, and in fact, they'll remove and freak out about content that is neither shocking, nor offensive in any plausible way, and is in fact entirely on their side on everything that matters.

And the spirit of inclusivity and integrity means you yank the guy offstage and hyperventilate about how he doesn't get to point out that black and gay people have it rough today.

Is that the inclusivity or the integrity?

(As Reynolds says, "when taxpayers stop supporting the universities, they'll blame it on anti-intellectualism". That this was not the university itself pulling the act will make little difference.

There is no Freedom of Speech issue here. No protestors, no heckler's veto, no censorship. Just a client deciding the performance they paid for was a dud and cutting it short.

        1. wareagle   6 years ago

you invited a comedian, whom you presumably have the common sense to vet a bit to see what his schtick was all about. Then you get offended by it? Bullshit. One or two students complained that someone told an off-color joke and pandelerium ensued. When you invite someone, don't act offended when the person turns out to be exactly who you invited.

          1. EscherEnigma   6 years ago

Still not a Free Speech issue.

            1. soldiermedic76   6 years ago

Free Speech is about more than the fucking government dipshit. It is about a culture of tolerance to ideas that may at times make you uncomfortable, being open minded to what you disagree with. Taboos can be more restricting then actual laws.

            2. Trollificus   6 years ago

Nobody suggested a legislative or judicial remedy for the comedian's complaint, now did they, fuckbag?

The phenomenon being commented on (or "mocked", I'm fine with that) is NOT that the guy was hauled off stage, but rather the content and the rationale for said action. And I find it more than a little alarming that so many people of college age do not understand comedy. Or sympathy. Or tolerance.

    5. John   6 years ago

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't make your doing it above mockery. I have a right to burn books that deny the earth is 6000 years old. I would still be a clown worthy of ridicule if I did such a thing.

These college students are ignorant scum and diserve to be ridculed, shamed and condemed at every opportunity.

      1. Dillinger   6 years ago

        >>>These college students ... diserve to be ridculed, shamed and condemed at every opportunity.

everybody does. understanding self-deprecation through ridicule is the only way to maintain a broad sense of humor and humility. both obviously lacking in today's utes.

Depends, did I know what their material was before hand? If not then it is my fault for not doing my research.

        2. soldiermedic76   6 years ago

          IOW, your comparison is invalid.

Actually if you listen to much black stand up comedy, like Kevin Hart's Sirius radio channel, it's pretty standard to find an Asian in the audience and make a small cock joke.

A touch over 100 years ago, kids the same age as these dimwits spent months at a time holed up in trenches in Europe, a few feet away from the decaying corpses of what until recently had been their best friends. The shells going off over their heads were sometimes loud enough to be heard across the English Channel; occasionally the sound carried as far as London. My great-grandfather got gassed in one of those trenches.

Watching these insufferable twits curl up into fetal positions because (gasp!) they had to hear a comedian say not-so-mean and not-terribly-tasteless things while studying at one of the most prestigious universities in the world is just embarrassing.

    1. Eddy   6 years ago

And whenever the commanding officer said "get down," they started dancing and got shot by the enemy.

Wait, that wasn't where you were going with that, is it?

I don't want a war. What I want is some way for reality to slap these idiots upside the head good and hard in a way that doesn't harm anyone else and occurs before these monster ever obtain any authority over anyone else.

        1. Ron   6 years ago

thats actually a good question what would get these people to realize life is easy and whining is silly and accomplishes nothing. I have many relatives and friends who have served and actually fought and when they get home they go straight to work without quibbling. I soon realized that compared to war life is a breeze. so how do we get people of luxury and leisure to wake up without sending them to war or Venuzuala. I will contemplate that issue and I don't think forcing them to join Americor or some other "voluntary" service is a good answer either

          1. D-Pizzle   6 years ago

Don't dismiss sending them to Venezuela so quickly.

        2. Marcus Aurelius   6 years ago

Workout a war or global scale disaster, it's going to be more of the same.

In classic literature, this is the crap that went on in the upper class, because they didn't have to work and filled their time nit picking about other people.

Despite some having to work two jobs to get healthcare, life is ridiculously easy nowadays, you don't have to hide from predators or hunt for food (unless you count deciding on which restaurant to patronize as hunting, a truly difficult decision at meal time). As technology does more and more of the dirty work and more free time is generated, it's only going to get worse.

          1. CptNerd   6 years ago

The inevitable next Great Depression will do it, either triggered by the business cycle, or natural disaster on a continent-wide scale. And no, "climate crisis" doesn't count. Another Carrington Event could do it.

"...you don't have to hide from predators or hunt for food (unless you count deciding on which restaurant to patronize as hunting, a truly difficult decision at meal time)."

Hmph. Guess you've never heard of "choice stress", postulated (by members of the progtard professoriate) as the awful, awful pain and pressure of having SO MANY consumer goods and versions of each to choose between. It is, like, literally torture.

    3. E Blackadder   6 years ago

Why go back 100 years? 70 years ago or so the man who would have been my uncle had he lived drowned in the North Atlantic when his Coast Guard ship was torpedoed by a German submarine. But at least he wasn't forced to listen to South Asians speak about being a gay Black man.

      1. EveryOtherUsernameWasTake   6 years ago

I'm sorry to hear of your uncle. My dad was in WWII; fortunately for me, he came back alive. Many others weren't so lucky.

War is always awful, but WWI was uniquely horrible for the soldiers in the trenches. I'm sure it makes little difference to your should-have-been uncle, whose final thoughts while he was bobbing in the North Atlantic were probably not along the lines of, "At least I'm dying in a slightly cushier war than the one 30 years ago." And military historians could likely spend all day debating which war from the last 100 years most tested the average soldier's capacity to endure suffering. But if, through the miracle of time travel and/or thought experiments, I were forced to fight in every U.S.-involved war of the last 100 years but could bow out of just one of them, I'd nope the fuck out of WWI without a second thought.

Intersectionality, the operarting system of the modern left, requires everyone to recognize that different forms of oppression are interrelated, and that they stack.

Less of an operating system and more like a try/catch exception generator really. I mean, I know the bar's been set pretty low for what constitutes an operating system but it's not like most people, even leftist SJWs are going down the stack every second of every day for instructions on how to make their lunch or get out of bed in the morning.

  24. Quo Usque Tandem   6 years ago

I suspect some of these perennial children have actually bought into the idea that they need to live in a sponge and are indeed upset and offended by pretty much anything [the useful idiot variety, of course]; the real provocateurs are just the teal wagging the dog, and claiming offense, oppression, and whatever give them a means to do that.

I so however have to wonder why, what is their end game? I am assuming the outright proscription of anything that is off narrative, with enforcement by a police state. Which they in their dreams run, of course, never imagining that it can and will be used against them.

  26. Ken Shultz   6 years ago

Ultimately, very little of political correctness is about homophobia and racism these days. I've got a working theory:

In generations past, being rebellious against the authority of your parents was pretty much the norm. Nowadays, religious people aren't necessarily breathing down everybody's necks to not have sex until they're married, there is no conscription, kids don't have to leave school and work on the farm or in a factory as soon as they're of employable age, . . . there isn't much left to rebel about.

Meanwhile, religious belief isn't what it used to be. To former generations, for a whole lotta people, the devil, his evil angels, and eternal damnation were just as real as anything else you've never seen but believe in (like the island of Fiji).

Yet still, evolutionarily speaking, we're supposed to rebel. You're not supposed to want to be taken care of by your parents past your teens. You're supposed to rebel against something, and in the absence of devils, sexual puritanism, Satan's minions, squares, fundamentalist parents, etc.--they gotta find something to hate. So, they hate whatever gets dragged in front of them.

It was a trap although the people who organized it may not have realized it. The kids didn't want to laugh. They wanted to be outraged.

    1. Ken Shultz   6 years ago

"In generations past, being rebellious against the authority of your parents was pretty much the norm."

I'm not so sure that's true and the idea of a teenager and teenage years being a transitional period between childhood and adulthood where you rebel against adult authority is a relatively recent one. It's not so long ago when the majority of kids at 13 would be through with education and be expected to work fulltime to help support the family and have little free time to do much rebelling. In other words, pretty much childhood and then straight into the adult world.

      1. Ken Shultz   6 years ago

They would have rebelled if they were forced to live with their parents in a prolonged adolescence. Wanting to get out from under the thumb of one's parents seems to be a consistent theme going back to classical literature.

        1. Alcibiades   6 years ago

Certainly, encouraging the young to question their elders didn't work out too well for Socrates (with a little help from Aristophanes).

Columbia University was in right in not allowing Mr. Patel to tell his jokes without being first approved by the Ministry of Truth and Comedy.
Indeed, Mr. Patel has committed the grave sin of thinking that he can say or tell any joke any time he wants, to anyone he wants, anytime he wants.
This action is a felony under the Privileged Speech Clause of our beloved Socialist Slave State Constitution and must be acted upon quickly if we are to have a free country.
The only question becomes will our judicious and learned judges on the local Peoples' Court sentence him to death or life imprisonment in a gulag before they torture Mr. Patel into his voluntary confession?

  28. Ken Shultz   6 years ago

"Patel joked that being gay cannot be a choice because "no one looks in the mirror and thinks, 'this black thing is too easy, let me just add another thing to it."

Oh, and by the way, it's an old joke. I've heard it a dozen times by various comedians. I've heard it a bunch of times told by black and gay acquaintances and coworkers. It's a standard.

    "As if being black weren't hard enough, . . . "

I easily heard it a dozen times.

No. I often confuse you people with each other, so it's a fair enough error to make. But I do not abide snowflakes. I participated in civil rights activism in college. Well then I agree with you, and I'll try to remember that when you piss me off moving forward.

The perpetrator was able to enter Ms. Midlarsky's office because Ms. Midlarsky has a school ID and a key to her own office.

Two things occur to me after reading this:

    1) Will Nimesh Patel have the balls to write an SNL Sketch mocking the fragility of these students? Will SNL have the balls to air it? (probably not)

    2) Will all comedians summarily stop appearing on college campuses and refuse to come back until these fragile twit students are bitch-slapped back to reality?

  52. Eddy   6 years ago

Technically, it's a student group uninviting someone they invited. No civil-liberties violation unless they broke a contract with comedian-guy.

It's still perversely interesting because we see the direction the country is heading.

These Asian students - pardon me if I stereotype - probably aren't gender studies majors, they really are among the future elite. So it's not a tale from the snowflakey fringe.

Also, the joke was as non-transgressive as you can imagine, from the OMG-are-they-still-on-the-air "comedians" of SNL. "It sure is tough being a gay black guy in America!"

It's not as if he tried out Chris Rock's routine on the difference between black people and &^%$#@$. It's not about how Jews invented copper wire. No, it sounds as if the joke was technically told against "homophobes" and affirming what (at least as of 3:45 yesterday) was the orthodoxy about sexual orientation.

  53. Doug Heffernan   6 years ago

I'm not sure that I'm in the proper identity group in order to comment on this story. I've probably hurt someone's feelings by even pointing that out. I'm so very sorry, but I'm probably not oppressed enough in order to deserve any forgiveness. So, i will just go off and pout somewhere. I will do it in a closet so that my pouting doesn't upset anyone, but it probably will anyway. I apologize again in advance, but of course my apology should not be accepted. I will try to send positive vibes for more safety from hurt feelings, but again, those vibes lack sufficient oppressional origin, so they won't be of any help. I will research my ancestry in hopes of finding a genuine identity group to which I belong, and then another one, so then I can stack my genuine oppression intersectionally, and then maybe finally I will have a voice!

  54. Penrose21   6 years ago

Well what did he expect? This was a group of college snowflakes from Columbia. Dear Lord!!!! What my dad a WWII, Navy Vet would have called, "weak sisters." And he used that term increasingly as he got older. That whirring sound, louder and louder, is The Greatest Generation spinning in their graves over who we have become!!!

My generation, and I am 70, was reared [the correct term] on "Sticks and stones..........." and "when going gets tough, the tough get going" and "tough times don't last, tough people do."

THIS generation somehow hears; "If the tooth fairy doesn't show, wet the bed!!!"

They truly are children. Being made to feel unsafe over a joke is insane in this context. If you're a black guy who gets an Uber ride and your white driver begins making a bunch of racist jokes to you it would make sense to feel like safety might be an issue.

This was a comedian speaking to a crowd of people. You're a snowflake if it bothers you and even then the solution would be to just leave.

I mean, in a sense, this is kind of a success story for Columbia. Because what is Columbia doing if not training up soldiers for the social jihad? literally to do exactly this. Entertainers should think twice about accepting invitations to perform there. Because it's irrelevant how thoughtsafe you think your schtick is, they are looking for a reason.

Dude would have been better off going out for a drink in a smalltown country bar wearing skinny jeans than doing comedy at Columbia.

    1. jjsaz   6 years ago

Ummm, no. What they are doing is training a generation to fall apart when the going gets tough. This, together with the powers that be fomenting war with Russia and China, when the shit really hits the fan, our experiment in liberty will be over. For good.

      1. Corey Trevor   6 years ago

As if students who go to Columbia, or anyone they know for that matter, would ever be made to fight said war with Russia or China. Unless one of them was eyeing a jab at the 2048 presidency or a future run for congress. Even then, I think all of the recent Presidents have effectively removed service in the military as a pre-req for a successful presidential bid.

When the shit hits the fan, these kids will do what they (the wealthy) have always done... make a fortune selling weapons and support to both sides of the conflict.

A warped, or better still, pliant mind is exactly what employers are looking for, and is the reason why a Columbia graduate is more highly valued in the labour market.

Jesus tap dancing Christ. These people are insane. I've had some convos with young college age kids where they were spouting off nonsense, they're probably the types that are this crazy. I just tried to talk some sense into them... But I'm pretty sure it didn't work.

On the plus side, I've ALSO met kids in college who very actively called their buddies "fags" still, so they're not all ultra PC pussies. These tools are going to do SO WELL when the US dollar collapses, or we have a civil war, or even when they can't find a job for $200,000 a year with their gender studies degree... These tough and brilliant kids are ready for ANYTHING!

    1. mtrueman   6 years ago

"These tough and brilliant kids are ready for ANYTHING!"

A degree from Columbia, or any ivy league school. is an advantage in the job market. This is one of the reasons why so many try to enter.

There's a difference between people going to MIT and studying CompSci or engineering... And whatever these morons are supposedly learning. I'm not against college in theory, it's just how useless so much of it has become in practice that worries me! See comment below...

    2. Trollificus   6 years ago

They are very busily creating demand for six-figure "diversity officers", "gender equity heads", "inclusion consultants", etc., etc. Both government and academia are creating nice white collar jobs where this shit can be injected into society as with a turkey baster up the ass.

They'll also work in media, entertainment, etc, and with the upcoming "female quotas" at top executive levels and boards, I'd say a huge portion of the top-paying white collar jobs are going to go to idiots like these kids. And all without contributing anything worthwhile to society. Ah well, it's a cost our robust economy can easily bear, right?

      1. vek   6 years ago

Unfortunately so... But for how long? Things go in cycles, and they tend to get their most extreme right before the cycle ends. I think we're there for ultra crazy PC nonsense. I know a black chick, who is bisexual, who FUCKING HATES SJWs. She has unprovoked just started railing on them a couple times when having random conversations.

Now I'm sure she's not as anti-PC on some particular issues as many on Reason are... But the fact that somebody like that can't even take the level of stupid coming from these people should be very telling.

So when it's not en vogue to be this crazy anymore... When corporations realize they can fire their diversity officers, save all that money, and there won't be public outcry... How secure are all these useless jobs going to be?

  62. HouseHubby   6 years ago

Listened to a Ezra Klein podcast yesterday with Jonathan Haidt, who has been railing against this SJW nonsense for awhile now. He said that these far left progressives really need to "pick their battles" because every time this stuff gets on Fox News or other right wing outlets, it just fires them up and reinforces their belief that progressives are nuts and potentially dangerous.

This is the perfect example of that. Liberals really need to step up and condemn this crap because their silence can be translated as tacit support.

    1. Rufus The Monocled   6 years ago

      If that's Haidt's position then that's unfortunate I submit.

You should denounce it on freedom of speech grounds. Not because of how Fox will react.

"Intersectionality, the operarting system of the modern left, requires everyone to recognize that different forms of oppression are interrelated, and that they stack."

    This isn't what intersectionality means.

    1. Trollificus   6 years ago

He didn't present it as a definition, he claims it is one aspect, or feature, of intersectionality. He did not say it is the only, or defining feature.

So, is it true? Or is it not? Seems accurate enough to me.

      1. BSKazzy   6 years ago

        It doesn't "require" anything.

And this "feature" is, at best, partly true. Intersectionality looks at the ways in which different aspects of people's identity and experiences intersect with regards to oppression and privilege.

The emerging pattern is that champions of Political Communism? are adopting the exact tactics of their adversaries in Political Mysticism?--feigning to take offense at the first hint of questioning, especially where no offense is intended. This and the argument from intimidation--attacking your moral character rather than what you said--add up to what Ayn Rand interpreted as a competing religion, the "Mystics of Muscle" that worship the Political State rather than an Allah, Jehovah or Minerva figure (Mystics of the Mind). Communists traditionally want gun-toting minions to beat you out of your money, while religious fascists want those same armed minions to beat or shoot you for doubting Jesus, lighting a joint or swallowing the wrong sacrament, looking at pictures or touching yourself. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" is now the operative phrase (and to Hell with having electric power). This explains the urge to burn actual data scientists at the stake and sacrifice your kids to the Misanthropic Global Warming gods--while swooning in horror at real or imagined slights. Ayn hit the nail on the head 50 years before pansy looterdom even realized it was another altruistic religion!

The scary thing is that these students probably vote. Perhaps it's time to raise the voting age to 30 in the hope that these snowflakes have gained some insight from the real world as they actually work, enter into contracts, and discover that not everyone thinks alike and that's actually a good thing. Cultural inbreeding is as serious a problem as procreative inbreeding.

And, WTF is a "safe space"? There is no such thing simply because such a thing would insulate you from real life which would have horrible long term consequences so it's NOT safe due to the long term damage it would cause.

    1. Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland   6 years ago

And, WTF is a "safe space"?

For starters, a conservative-controlled campus such as Liberty, Grove City, Wheaton, Oral Roberts, Ouachita Baptist, or any of the hundreds of fourth-tier (or unranked) right-wing goober factories.

    2. vek   6 years ago

We really should raise the voting age... Every single generation swings conservative by several points as they age, giving the lefties a perpetual advantage. If it were only proper adults voting, the entire political spectrum would shift to the right a decent amount. We'd probably have Bill Clinton in the 90s style Democrats running the show again just from that alone. Not that Billy boy in the 90s was great, but he was markedly better than the insanity we have now!

I rely on the science that proves progressives are lying, idiot scum who need to be avoided or caged at every opportunity. Don't be a science denier.

  72. Trollificus   6 years ago

I take it those few who are championing these kids for "wanting to make the world a safe place" never read the old Williamson sci-fi story (title lost) about a scientist who created self-repairing robots, then self-constructing robots, then self-designing robots, then autonomous self-programming robots. (smart guy, comes in handy in sci-fi short stories)

But it was okay because he'd programmed them to not allow humans to come to harm. It would create limitless prosperity and a truly safe world. Cut to many years later and humans are fed an optimally nutritious goo and live in a world with no steps, hard edges or sharp utensils...a fucking nightmare, and the robots would ensure you "enjoyed" a maximum number of years of it.

It was a comment on Asimov's Laws of Robotics, like, "And what if the producer is careless with the robot programming?". The details were oppressive and awful. Read it as a kid and have always been convinced a "safe world" would be a terrible shit show.

So their fucking goal is bad, at the root.

When things like this happen, it's hard to deny that some college campuses have a student fragility problem.

A review of the author's right-wing pedigree indicates why the hundreds of censorship-shackled, nonsense-teaching, dogma-enforcing, dissent-prohibiting, conservative-controlled campuses are not to be mentioned here.

For Novak fellows, attempting to maintain a conservative coalition for backwardness and bigotry in modern, improving America disinclines applying one's ostensible standards on freedom of expression on campus to fourth-tier right-wing goober factories.

One has to wonder if the students found Patel's routine funny until they were informed that it wasn't and that instead, they should be offended. Patel was up there for half and hour. I kind of doubt the room was silent or students were groaning at his supposedly racist humor.

Columbia University recently invited Per Fink of Denmark to speak at their 4th Annual Psychosomatic's conference. Per Fink orchestrated the medical kidnapping, assault, torture, and denial of care of Karina Hansen in Denmark for reasons of personal greed and ambition -- he wanted to get his theory of bodily distress disorder published in the ICD 11 and he saw an opportunity for a captive research subject and a steady flow of money into his pocket from the government. Karina was only very recently restored to legal personhood and to her family after this terrifying and horrific ordeal that lasted for many long years of terror, misery, loneliness, pain and anguish.

Columbia offered continuing medical education credits to hear this monster from Denmark speak despite the fact that over TEN THOUSAND people objected to his appearance.

It seems that the requirement to speak at Columbia is to engage in a bit of kidnapping and torture.

It is an honor and a privilege to be booted from Columbia, and no honor at all to speak there.

There is no bad publicity for an entertainer. Hopefully, this notoriety will bring the comedian to the attention of some actual adults who might understand and enjoy his brand of humor.

      Rock on, Nimesh Patel!

Among the many reasons I don't contribute to Columbia even though I have a degree from it.

The comedy was intended for mature audiences only. Perhaps Barney the Purple Dinosaur is available for a university appearance.
