This Is How Sex-Trafficking Panic Gets Made
Plus: fight against FOSTA continues and Tennessee trooper reports Democrat for visiting falafel restaurant.
Another "human trafficking operation" that wasn't. One hundred and twenty-three missing Michigan minors were found during a one-day "sex trafficking operation," the New York Post reported yesterday. Similar statements showed up in other news headlines across national and international news. What the associated articles fail to mention for multiple paragraphs is that only three of the minors are even suspected of having been involved in prostitution.
Officials said the operation—a joint effort of the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI, Michigan State Police, and multiple local Michigan police departments—identified three "possible sex-trafficking cases" among the 123 minors that were located on September 26, according to a press release.
What's more, all but four of the "missing children" were not actually missing. In the remaining cases, minors were listed in a police database as missing but had since been found or returned home on their own. "Many were (homeschooled)," Lt. Michael Shaw told The Detroit News. "Some were runaways as well."
The one-day "rescue" sweep was a long-time in the making, with police beforehand "investigating their whereabouts by visiting last known addresses, friend's homes and schools."
Nothing in the U.S. Marshals report on the operation makes mention of any arrested kidnappers, "traffickers," or other adults involved in endangering or exploiting any of the missing minors that were identified. Which makes sense—very few missing children are actually abducted. And when runaway teens do engage in sex for money, the vast majority do not have "pimps."

Falafel Watch List? Tennessee state trooper Anthony Bull thought he had Democratic gubernatorial candidate Karl Dean good when he caught Dean attending "a Muslim event" while assigned to the Tennessee candidate's security detail. Bull reported this information to the campaign of Dean's Republican opponent, Bill Lee.
But it turns out the "Muslim event" was a falafel restaurant, where Dean held a meet and greet. A Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security investigation revealed the mix-up and Bull was removed from security duty.

Fight against FOSTA continues. Electronic Frontier Foundation and Woodhull Freedom Foundation are appealing a dismissal of their lawsuit challenging the feds' attempt to hold online publishers responsible for "facilitating prostitution."

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg announced via Instagram this morning that he’s registered as a Democrat.
Gasp!
Hello.
Bloomberg is the most anti-climatic nanny in the world.
It would have been more shocking if he revealed he was registered as a Republican.
He did after he was a registered democrat.
Its why the term RINO is around.
It would have been more shocking satisfying if he revealed he was registered as a Republican dead person.
Ballot selfie battles continue in some states.
despair? is it in states of despair?
State of shock?
State of confusion

Hillary is a shoo-in for president this November!
a wide enough margin could be the key to discovering time travel and allowing us to start again at 2016 with Hillary as president.
IT WAS HER TURN!
stolen seat
I hate to go all loveprostitution, but I don’t trust CNN’s polling. Looking at the aggregates RealClearPolitics puts together, CNN’s polls are routinely about +5 Democrat when compared to other polls.
For example, CNN’s Tennessee poll, 9/11-9/15, showed the Democrat with a 5 point lead. A poll taken by Fox News at the end of September and one by CBS/YouGov at the start of October had the race at +5 Republican and +8 Republican, respectively. While it’s possible that public opinion shifted by 10 points, I think it’s unlikely?especially since a Fox News poll that concluded on 9/11 had the Republican with a 3 point lead.
This isn’t the only example. A better one might be Missouri, where 8 out of 9 polls taken since the start of July have shown either a tied race or Hawley (R) with a two or three point lead. The only outlier? CNN’s poll (9/25 – 9/29), which gives McCaskill (D) a +3 lead. (By way of comparison: a poll between 9/11 and 9/15 done by Trafalgar showed a +3 lead for Hawley; a poll by Fox News done immediately afterwards [9/29 – 10/2] showed a tied race; and a poll done during CNN’s polling period [9/26 – 9/27] that covered more than twice as many likely voters showed Hawley with a +2 lead.)
It’s completely possible that CNN’s polls are correct and everyone else’s are wrong. But I think they have a sampling error; whether it’s intentional or unintentional, I don’t know, but I don’t believe CNN’s polls because they constantly swing.
(And before Palin’s Buttplug wanders in with “butwutabout FAUX NUUS!” without reading the above rationale for not trusting CNN’s polling, Fox News pretty much falls in line with the other polls being taken. If Fox has a sampling error, chances are good that everyone else has a sampling error too.)
The aggregates (RCP, 538, Pollster) are the only ones worth paying attention to.
I hate to go all Red Prostitution, but fuck you Buttplugger!
I hate to go all loveprostitution, but I don’t trust CNN’s polling. Looking at the aggregates RealClearPolitics puts together, CNN’s polls are routinely about +5 Democrat when compared to other polls.
Personally, I found this to be funnier than ~75% of OBL’s stuff.
“I don’t want to come off as a kook but there might be a chance that CNN leans slightly Democrat.”
Well it’s not that CNN leans Democrat, it’s that their polls lean Democrat. Every other poll, from NBC to Fox News, generally seems to fall in the same range of results; sure, it varies depending on race, but two polls taken simultaneously will be within three points of each other. Polls over the course of a month may show some change, but no more than five points?and those five will be a trend, showing climbing support/lowered support for a certain candidate as the month goes on. And then there’s CNN, constantly bucking that trend in favor of Democrats.
What I’m saying is that every other poll, regardless of the political positions of the company that puts them out, generally falls in the same range. CNN, meanwhile, constantly goes about +5 Democrat when compared with these polls. That’s a problem.
And I cynically suspect it’s not accidental. They don’t want to tell you the news, but want to be influencers, and cherry picking or even manipulating the numbers would be perfectly justifiable if it would hurt Trump and promote Democrats.
These doubts became apparent in November 2016, and I would not be at all surprised if the same happens this election. I assume the majority of news outlets are biased, and am surprised whenever they are not.
not loveprostitution it’s rejecting the false trafficking narrative.
Why would any man vote Democratic now?

Capitalism = climate change = genocide
The Mask Slips
Meteorologist Eric Holthaus wrote on Twitter this morning that “The world’s top scientists just gave rigorous backing to systematically dismantle capitalism as a key requirement to maintaining civilization and a habitable planet.” He said that as en endorsement of the latest UN climate report, which Grist claims “shows civilization is at stake” if we don’t… bring Western Civilization to an end.
“Adaptation” to climate change is allowing planetary suicide.
The only way to adapt to a civilizational-scale risk is to prevent it. The only way to prevent climate change is by radically reducing greenhouse gas emissions: 50% by 2030, 100% by 2040.
Anything less is genocidal.
And we look to North Korea for guidance on how to live in this non capitalist society.
Say what you want about Juche, at least it’s an ethos, man.
The Mask Slips
It’s not really mask slipping. At least, the mask has been blatantly and fully off for quite some time. At this point it should be fully regarded as bait and switch or just outright fraud.
If their goal is prevent the worst predictions of climate change from coming to pass, then they have a safe, reliable, mature technological solution at their finger tips in nuclear power. If they aren’t endorsing nuclear power as *the* solution, then they are at best concerned about other things in addition to climate change, and may very well not be concerned with climate change per se and are only using it as cover to push another agenda.
But it turns out the “Muslim event” was a falafel restaurant, where Dean held a meet and greet.

If these are not American workers, how do we know that we are not winning? How do we know that positions vacated by workers laid off overseas will not create new positions here for which Americans will be hired?

Shocking Internal Google Docs Prove Their Orwellian Goals and Desire to Squash Free Speech
Google continues on to admit that tech firms are performing a “balancing act” between two incompatible positions,” creating an unmediated marketplace of ideas and creating well-ordered spaces for safety and civility. It says that 100% commitment to the American tradition of prioritizing free speech goes against commitment to the European tradition of favoring dignity over liberty and civility over freedom. One example of this that they use is censoring racial and religious hatred, even when there is no provocation of violence.
‘THE GOOD CENSOR’: Leaked Google Briefing Admits Abandonment of Free Speech for ‘Safety And Civility’
The briefing labels the ideal of unfettered free speech on the internet a “utopian narrative” that has been “undermined” by recent global events as well as “bad behavior” on the part of users. It can be read in full below.

Of course they will helpfully define what constitutes ‘racial and religious hatred’. I’m guessing that supporting Trump’s wall will be included. lol

Lol
Cathy L does not think that happens.
The last incident I heard of this was determined to be mass hysteria on the part of the prison guards.
I represented clients who were charged with smuggling drugs into prisons.
Firstly, you would be shocked at how many drugs and homemade inebriants there are in prison. (Even for drug law ending Libertarians)
Second, you would be surprised at how drugs get into prisons.
A lot of guards sickness is actually from the dawning realization of the cruelty they are complicitly a part of.
whats the cost difference between scanning in color vs scanning in black and white? there is no difference so why black and white?
Color copies run about .20 per compared to .10 for b&w (corporate rates). About 1/3 of that is actual cost.

Really? How many guards have been sickened because of this?
Sounds like the stories I heard in elementary school about drug pushers showing kids pretty pictures soaked in LSD to get them “hooked”.
If you believe the facts about drugs found and used in prison, then these drugs have to get into prison somehow.
Why wouldn’t prisoners and their helps use methods that work?
Why wouldn’t you put tabs of LSD under stamps? Soak paper in water-drug solutions? Use water-drug solutions to seal envelops?

At a time when Republicans are being shot, stabbed, doxxed, beaten, mailed powder, run out of restaurants, and sent death threats, Hillary Clinton urges Democrats to be even more uncivil. What an irresponsible statement. Every Democrat should denounce.

‘An angry mob’: Republicans work to recast Democratic protests as out-of-control anarchy
Complaining about the violence of white liberals is racist.
This concerted strategy to construct a narrative in which liberals are violent is the political equivalent of those police ofcrs who we’ve seen in videos shouting “stop resisting!” & “he’s got a gun!” while beating a restrained unarmed African American. It’s dangerous & shameful.

Bill and Hillary Clinton to Start 13-City Paid Speaking Tour After Midterms
I wish I could attend, but I don’t think it’ll stop by my town.
Of course conservatives are pouncing on the supposed hypocrisy of continuing to put Bill Clinton out there in the #MeToo #BelieveWomen era, given what the progressive / libertarian alliance just did to Kavanaugh. But that’s a false equivalence. Bill Clinton is not up for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Neither is Keith Ellison. Brett Kavanaugh, however, is.

Remember, Democrats HATE the Clintons. Say so all of the time.
MEN prefer Republicans 50-45%
WOMEN prefer Democrats 63-33%
Seems to suggest that men are five times more likely than women to prefer independents or be swing voters.
You know you can click through and see the actual results, right?
Men: 50% R, 45% D, 2% neither/other, 4% undecided
Women: 63% D, 33% R, 1% neither/other, 2% undecided
Of course, I’m not sure how you got “five times more likely” when you were only missing 5 points from the men’s side and 4 points from the women’s side.
If there has been anything learned, it’s that we should take polls super seriously.
“I’m not sure how you got “five times more likely”
Women: 63+33=99
100-99=1*
Men: 50+45=95
100-95=5*
1%* times 5 = 5%
Also, there’s a qualifier in what I wrote, right at the front of the sentence, “Seems to suggest”. Hard to miss, really.
Meanwhile,
Men: 50% R, 45% D, 2% neither/other, 4% undecided
50+45+2+4 = 101%
Women: 63% D, 33% R, 1% neither/other, 2% undecided
63+33+1+2 = 102%.
Or, maybe you’d prefer to look at it this way:
Men: 2% + 4% = 6%
Women 1% + 2% = 3%
Either way, those numbers seem to suggest that men are twice as likely as women to be independent or swing voters.
3% times 2 = 6%.
You don’t really need a man to explain everything to you, do you?
Women: 63+33=99
I think I found your problem.
You don’t really need a man to explain everything to you, do you?

I wonder how many people outside Reason understand that “sex-trafficking” means voluntary prostitution.
The term conjures up images of women being tied up and thrown into the trunk of a car before being sold into sexual slavery.
Which is intentionally misleading of course.
It really does. I’m sure that many, if you called them on this misleading phrasing, would call it slavery anyway though because they did it because they needed money.
Then all work is slavery, because people need money to live.

Apparently Trump is pulling money from cancer research and transferring it to immigration enforcement. It’s costing something like $750 a night to house those little kids he kidnapped. There’s a Huffington Post story laying it all out that may interest y’all.
My bad. It’s “imprison” not “house”.
Well, that is actually old news.
It seems as though the problem began when ORR decided to start fingerprinting the relatives of unaccompanied kids in custody who showed up to pick them up from the detention facilities.
Since many of the relatives themselves are undocumented immigrants themselves, they have been hesitant to come forward to claim the kids.
Therefore the kids stay in detention centers longer, costing more money than anticipated.
$750 a night? Must be in a Trump hotel.
I read that 1.5 million immigrants will enter the USA in 2018 – up slightly.
The one thing Trump was supposed to get right is another lie of his.
Hey, it’s certainly not Trump’s fault that the improving economy is attracting more illegal immigrants looking for work!
So you’re saying that in order to save er jerbs, we first have to sink the economy and lose er jerbs?
BRILLIANT!
I’ve seen someone suggest that. I think they were being facetious, but who stranger things have happened.
Trump asks Congress to fund a border wall and they don’t. Trump tries to put a ban on immigrants from certain countries and the left challenges it in court and blocks it. Trump tries to detain illegals at the border and the left files suit to block it. Trump tries to withhold funding from sanctuary cities to get them to cooperate in enforcing immigration law and the left sues to block it. Trump tries to have ICE conduct increased immigration raids and leftist jurisdictions instruct their employees to actively obstruct and resist these efforts.
But, yeah. Totally Trump’s fault that there’s more immigration. What a liar he is.
There’s a Huffington Post story laying it all out that may interest y’all.

likelihood low.
“Trump is pulling money from cancer research”
Umm, knowing the typical federal research it’s more than likely from studies with objectives like: does climate change cause cancer in federal agents who are really into teen sexting? Not a huge loss
“Nothing in the U.S. Marshals report on the operation makes mention of any arrested kidnappers, “traffickers,” or other adults involved in endangering or exploiting any of the missing minors that were identified”
Well now that is not what you hear on the local news at 6 and 11; I mean seriously, who would be interested in just some runaways vs. human/sex trafficking? And just think of the grants and jobs of police and regulatory people who depend on this hysteria, I mean narrative.
That and Reason obviously hates children. Do you seriously want a bunch of free rangers being picked off the street, drugged out of their minds, and sent to a brothel in Tijuana? Seems this happens every day in increasing numbers! Your child could be next, and probably will be if you don’t act now! Elect the most progressive politician on the ballot and they will fix this for all of us, and insure our children’s future!
So, no more “No Labels” is no more?
“Dean spokeswoman Paige Hill confirmed that Dean did not go to a mosque, but that the meet-and-greet event had initially been listed on his schedule as a “Muslim community event,” as the restaurant owner is part of Knoxville’s Muslim community.”
The question was apparently about whether Dean went to a mosque. His opponent was hoping to get a photo of him in a mosque. That’s fairly disgraceful in that appears to be trying to leverage prejudice against Muslims to help win an election.
You know what else is legitimately disgraceful? Being ashamed of having gone to a mosque for fear of being associated with Muslims. Someone should ask Dean if he’d be ashamed of having attended a mosque and if so why.
For the record, I’ve attended mosque many times, used to go regularly. Where else would you go if you want to learn about Islam, Breitbart?
It definitely plays off Muslim prejudices, but is it dirtier than the average political ad fodder? I think people are more likely to get offended by something like this, and the media loves pointing and laughing at rednecks, so it gets national coverage. But campaign ads always try to convey the opponent as children-eating grandma murderers.
Yes, I suspect having been photographed at a mosque might really hurt a candidate, and plenty of campaigns make similarly awful claims on other subjects–immigration, crime, etc. being excellent examples.
That being said, we should call them out for their awfulness. If some people want to maintain that unsubstantiated allegations from 35 years ago should disqualify someone from public office because they suggest lingering sexism, maybe we should also look at credible allegations of bigotry happening right before our eyes today.
The lead in this story isn’t about some law enforcement officer being removed from security detail for violating his non-disclosure agreement. It’s about turning association with Muslims into a political hot potato.
>>>Michael Bloomberg announced via Instagram this morning that he’s registered as a Democrat.
Democrat party hardest hit.
>>>Ballot selfies
went to court because not enough to just tell everyone for whom they voted. people suck.
Looking at the poll in the tweet , it seems that everyone believes that they will be better off with Republicans in Congress, but are going to vote Democrat anyway? Most people also believe that the Republicans will win.
I can see the Democrats having a slight edge, but there is no way that poll is accurate on generic ballot.
Well, people keep insisting that Trump voters were voting against their own interests. So maybe this is just more of the same.
The people I know who support Dems do so because they don’t like Trump/Cruz etc as people.
It bears no relation to actual policy positions or campaign promises. In fact, most of my lefty friends couldn’t tell you what Beto actually wants. His campaign ads are incredibly vapid.
“Ted Cruz is an asshole and no one likes him. Senators hate him.”
Those seem like good features to me.
Their disgusting failed smear job they just tried to pull is going to backfire on them, big time. Nobody likes a witch hunt.
>>>Tennessee state trooper Anthony Bull thought he had Democratic gubernatorial candidate Karl Dean good
thought he had him good how?
I already falawful.
It’s really weird to see tweets from people I know show up in the AM Links.
When people are asked to use gut instinct to stop real but rare horrors, relying on racial stereotypes and other biases tends to rule.
Is that why the cops pulled a gun on my friend the day I moved him and his babby mamma into my town. It’s strange how one of the other regulars at the Wellness Center died of a drug overdoes latter that night in the Wellness Center bathroom.
