Brickbat: Start Spreading the News

After New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio helped kick off the Dominican Day Parade, a reporter asked him a question about a recent story about his administration's ties to lobbyists. Instead of answering, De Blasio just watched as police officers grabbed the reporter and led him half a city block away.

Having perfected their technique on unimportant proles whose problems are local news, the velvet glove moves up the ladder.
Me today; you tomorrow. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Mayor Bill de Blasio is a such a big believer in the free press that he let two bodyguards physically remove a credentialed Post reporter who had the temerity to ask him a question in public on Sunday.
I'm still not clear what this means. Does he have a Blockbuster card or something?
I'm still not clear what this means.
Looks to me like the reporter had government permission papers to exercise their 1A rights, and the mayor still didn't give a fuck.

"You think a piece of paper will protect you?"
NYPD gave him a badge which affords him the right to stand there while not asking questions.
He forgot to submit all questions at least 24 hours in advance.
New Yorkers thought they hit peak authoritarian when they elected a guy who wants to dictate how much soda other people can drink. They were wrong.
Peak authoritarian is like peak derp. It can never be reached. You're always halfway there.
Amazon, Google, tech firms want to make it easier for patients to share medical data with the medical industry.
I bet that ends well. I bet that ends just fabulously, that does. They're committed to storing patient data on the cloud. Super fantastic.
Nobody ever thinks to ask where the silver in the sliver-lined cloud comes from.
And I'm sure it is a default opt in even though i REALLY don't trust those companies at all.
Ouch for The Blasio.
How is there no video of this?
Speech is violence; questions are assault.
Security was "just following orders".
After New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio helped kick off the Dominican Day Parade
Huh, I didn't know that NYC celebrated the Dominicans. What what's a parade for them like?
From my memory of meeting DR women, it is probably a very good parade.
As soon as I posted I thought, I wonder if he was making a joke about the priestly order. Oh well. No regrets as Dominican women deserve the comment.
Can we expect 47 articles in the next 48 hours about how Democrats are the single biggest threat to the first amendment the universe has ever known like we do every time Trump criticizes the media or is that different?
Maybe it's not specifically DeBlasio or Trump that's a threat to the first amendment, it's just people from New York City in general.
/what the fuck you lookin' at?
No, this was only worthy of a Brickbat, not a full article, let alone an article from every writer at Reason, plus a podcast. It's not like he used force against them or anything. The cops only led the journalist to a different location that they were sure he'd like better. We need more leadership like this.
Good point. I mean, if a Republican mayor did something similar while there was a Democrat in the White House, there would be a ton of articles about the mayor while the president would only get a Brickbat. You sure know how to point out Reason's biases. They're just a bunch of left wingers writing for a leftist rag of a magazine. We know this because they criticize Republicans. Only leftists criticize Republicans.
Plus, you have to remember, Democrats are no different than Stalinists. I mean, you can just smell the vodka and borscht on Nancy Pelosi's breath. So because they are existential threats to the entire universe, it is the duty of everyone who is not a Democrat to stand in solidarity together, even if it means embracing the honest-to-God Nazis and racists and white supremacists. I mean, you can't really expect Reason to criticize the Unite The Right white supremacists, there were only like 2 of them, plus, the Democrats want to ban straws! STRAWS, I tell you!
Mmmmm..... Booooorscht..... *drool*
When the Senate Democrats voted to amend the constitution to restrict speech/press rights, the articles written here were along the lines "that is bad, but there was no chance that it would actually pass". It was not forever treated as an indeliable stain on the Democrat's reputation, nor an imminent threat to civil liberties.
you can just smell the vodka and borscht on Nancy Pelosi's breath
That's not vodka and borscht. Don't ask what it is, you reeeeeeaaaaaallllllly don't want to know.
No, sarc, I think the POTUS should get more scrutiny than the mayor of NYC. But that doesn't take away from my point about the endless articles that panic over Republicans. No one said only leftists criticize Republicans you fool. Hysteria over Republicans is of the left, like hysteria over Democrats is of the right.
No one said only leftists criticize Republicans you fool.
Maybe not directly, but judging by the wailing and gnashing of teeth from our resident right wingers whenever anyone says boo about Trump, some people sure seem to think that is the case.
Don't you remember the 8 years of daily tongue bathes for Obama that the [t]reason writers and editors of this leftist rag put out? They never once wrote a critical word about their chocolate messiah. Not once. Don't search the reason archives, and if you do, don't believe your own lying eyes.
The media like Gillespie and Welch are still picking Obama's pubes out of their mouths from all that chortling.
Because the mayor of a city has the same power and influence as the president. Good point. I never thought of that.
LEAVE TRUMP ALONE!!!!!
Whatever happened to Lucy?
And if you want exaggerated coverage, I'm sure over at places like Breitbart you can find 200 articles on illegal immigrants littering and jaywalking, proving to the world that they are animals and monsters who need to be put down like the dogs that they are.
Reason will NOT cover that and apologist trolls will be here quickly to defend Reason.
I admire the restraint the officer displayed. The threat was not only bearing a folded newspaper, he also brandished a phone/gun/nukular device. The officer would have been well within policy to make a split-second-decision to shout "STOP RESISTING" and reduce the threat to another greasy spot on NYC sidewalks.
Too many witnesses I assume.
Mayor Bloomberg's goon squad
A Dominican day parade?
Don't we have enough Dominicans already invading our major league and minor league rosters?
We're up to our armpits in Dominicans here in the Peoples Republic of Massatwoshits.
Hahaha. You mean Democrat politicians dont actually respect the freedom of the Press?
Shocking!
"Hahaha. You mean Democrat politicians dont actually respect the freedom of the Press?
Shocking!"
ftfy
Politicians in general don't like the press because they don't like to be criticized. Trump included.
Trump LOVES the press!
The media's stupidity helped get him elected and makes him more popular every day.
When he's not bitching and moaning about "fake news."
Oh checker player Sarcasmic, the media does produce 'fake news' and Trump loves them for it.
By the end of Trump's two terms as president, he will be considered the best president in over well over 100 years. Even winning over the Reaganites.
