12 Russian Operatives Indicted for Hacking Democrats, Voting Systems During 2016 U.S. Presidential Election
They posed as cyberactivists to release the stolen documents, the Justice Department alleges.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein just announced that a grand jury has indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking into the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, and arranging for the release of internal communications for the purpose of influencing the outcome of the 2016 election.
Eleven of the 12 Russian operatives are charged with either hacking into or "spearphishing" (sending emails to trick people into providing passwords) the computer networks of Democratic Party officials; spying on network activity and collecting information; and creating fictional personas to spread the information and conceal that the source was actually Russian officials with military intelligence agency GRU. The veiled proxies included an organization named DCLeaks (which claimed to be Americans) and Guccifer 2.0, who claimed to be a single Romanian person. The hacking campaign dated back to March 2016, according to the indictment.
The 12th Russian operative (as well as one of the previous group of operatives) is charged with hacking into election-management systems on the state level, where that person is alleged to have stolen information about roughly 500,000 voters. Eleven of the 12 operatives are also charged with money laundering, as they are alleged to have used cryptocurrencies to fund their activities while concealing their connections to the Russian government; and with aggravated identity theft, for using peoples' names and passwords to commit fraud.
Rosenstein took great pains to explain that, thus far, there are no allegations that any Americans knew they were communicating with Russian intelligence officers as they went around arranging the release of the internal Democratic Party records. There's also no allegation as yet that any attempts to meddle with the election systems affected the outcome of the presidential vote.
According to the indictment, Democratic Party organizations realized they had been hacked by May of 2016, and brought in a security company to purge the hackers. But the Russian operatives managed to remain in Democratic systems until October 2016.
To distribute the stolen emails, the Russian operative created a fictitious group named DCLeaks, claiming it was made up of U.S. "hacktivists." They made up fictitious people and a Facebook page to promote the leaks online. The computer that operated the Twitter account for DCLeaks was the same computer used for some of the fake social media campaigns intended to stir up protests in the U.S.
In the summer and fall of 2016, the operatives invented Guccifer 2.0 and used "him" to release additional stolen documents through WordPress. The indictment notes that a candidate for Congress actually requested that Guccifer send him or her stolen documents related to his or her opponent, and that Guccifer complied. (The candidate is not named.) The Russians also sent stolen Democratic Party data to a "then-registered state lobbyist and online source of political news." They also sent stolen documents about the Black Lives Matter movement to a journalist (both the state lobbyist and journalist are unnamed). Guccifer also passed along files to an unnamed "Organization 1," which were then released just prior to the start of the 2016 Democratic National Convention. This seems like an obvious reference to WikiLeaks, but the organization is not named.
The entire indictment can be read here, and it is an outcome of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of election meddling. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday. People are already anxious about what could happen there. This certainly isn't going to calm anybody down.

Did they get the DNC server, to prove it was actually hacked?
I am pretty sure Hillary busted up that server with a sledge hammer. It is the only time Hillary ever did any real work in her life.
She has people for that.
You're confusing Hillary's server, with the DNC server, which is also separate from the server John Podesta used. And Hillary's server was setup in 2009 per https://www.whois.com/whois/clintonemail.com. The Wikileaks releases were for the DNC and Podesta's emails. There was no leak of Hillary's emails, and Obama's administration did all it could to not release any, but Judicial Watch's FOIA lawsuits eventually revealed all this to the public.
The Strozok hearing told us Hillary's server was hacked (showing she lied again) - see http://dailycaller.com/2018/07.....gn-emails/ Further Strozok was asked in the hearing about being approached by several people with evidence Hillary's server was hacked. Strozok then thanked them and did nothing, suggesting the Obama administration wanted nothing done about that or any evidence it was hacked obtained and kept (and especially the media learning about it). And remember, Obama exchanged 20 emails with Clinton, suspiciously using an alias, and lied about it claiming he learned of her server in "news reports".
I'll bet the real story, was the Putin's hackers did get her emails, and blackmailed them into appeasement and flexibility (Obama promised that to Russian president Medvedev on a hot microphone prior to the 2012 elections). Of course they had to cover it up, or resign.
There's not a shred of evidence Russian hackers were even a thing.
These indictments are based entirely on Crowdstrike's word.
Guccicer 2.0 is a fictional character, who repackaged already Wikileaks published material, in a shoddy Russian disguise.
The press is lazy and stupid, but data is public, and anyone with a brain and a little effort can compare the meta-data of what Wikileaks published and the rehashed version DOJ is claiming as Russian in origin.
She only wiped it, "like, with a cloth."
Expendable minions did the heavy work.
No, Mueller still hasn't gotten around to asking. If he ever does, he'll do it politely, while Rosenstein and Strozk dole out immunity to anyone present.
No. They haven't even explained how the "hackers" had access to internet speeds that aren't even possible.
Also, pretty suspect timing, just before Trump meets with Putin.
They had access to the same networks and transfer speeds as their targets, which probably exceeded 20 or 30 megabits per second, of which they could use at least one without causing problems that would raise suspicion. That is enough to allow them to exfiltrate data at a continuous rate of 100 kilobytes or more per second. That seems like a low rate, but continued over a month or so would allow them to collect around 240 megabytes. That's a floor and only for one network; there were at least 3: DNC, DCCC, and Clinton Campaign. And the transfer rate from any of the networks could easily have been 10 or more times as high, especially during nighttime hours.
Correction: one megabit per second bandwidth would be about 100 kilobytes per second, 343 megabytes per hour, 8 gigabytes per day, or, for a month, about 241 gigabytes - several hundred times the amount mentioned in the indictment paperwork. That still is only a floor, for one network, and there were three.
The attackers would not have had a problem related to network speed and data volume.
and just after Rosenstein's contentious congressional hearing.
"Interrogate me, will you? Why I'll have you interrogated!"
One day years from now when almost everyone has forgotten all about this stupid cockamamie bullcrap, Julian Assange will reveal to the entire world the truth of what actually happened, and Welchie Boy and all his butt buddies in the JournoList will completely ignore it as a non-story.

The evidence is Secret. Because National Security. "We will loose our f'n jobs."
Hackers spear fishing.
Russians disrupting our elections.
This is news, folks. Right here in River city.
With a capital N
And that rhymes with M
And that stands for Mueller
Mueller's track record ain't so good.
I'd say hang them as spies, but that wouldn't be good for our captured CIA operatives around the globe. They'll probably be traded in a prisoner exchange at some point.
Surely they aren't in the US and won't actually be arrested.
Are these the "operatives" who have no chance of ever being tried that I heard about?
What, you don't think Putin'll hand the over any day now...?
I've also heard that it's pretty easy to convict people who, you know, don't show up to actually defend themselves.
What I'd like to know is how it is that they're finding so much stuff about what happened to Democrats, yet there were supposedly no spies from the FedGov in the Clinton campaign whereas we know for a fact there were in the Trump campaign.
Does this mean there were American spies in Hillary's campaign, and we just haven't heard about it yet? Curious, when that would mean that it wasn't partisan spying on just the Republicans. You'd think they would want that known.
No, it just means that they're taking the DNC's word for what happened.
That's a key thing for me. The DNC didn't permit anybody to actually investigate the server.
You can understand the DNC not wanting to permit that; You're well advised to never let the cops look over your premises, and the DNC probably has more criminal exposure potential than most organizations.
The thing that is hard to explain, without assuming FBI corruption, is that they accepted "No" for an answer. In an allegedly national security case.
It would be easier to make sense of it if, you know, you kept your facts straight.
The informant - not "spy" - involved in the Trump campaign was helping the FBI track Russian attempts to influence the Trump campaign. The Mueller investigation just handed down indictments demonstrating how the Russian military infiltrated the DNC servers in order to gather internal communications that could be selectively released in order to help the Trump campaign win.
It's a single strategy, a single purpose.
Lol, excellent parody.
1. NSA monitoring and analysis - entirely legal - of communication from GRU/Internet Research Agency.
2. CIA analysis of data from NSA and their own sources.
3. FBI monitoring and analysis - presumably with warrants - of the servers in Illinois and Arizona identified by NSA and CIA.
4. DHS has responsibilities in this area as well and probably were involved fairly early.
5. Forensic analysis of compromised DNC and campaign servers by Crowdstrike, hired to close the barn door after the horse had been stolen.
The FBI knew in late 2015 that Russian actors had targeted and penetrated Democratic party networks and had notified DNC about it, only to be blown off by the clueless administrator who lacked the initiative to follow up and make even limited efforts to interdict it. It is folly to assume that the national security establishment simply dropped the matter, and the indictments announced today establish with reasonable certainty that they did not.
It appears fairly certain that the national agencies collected a good deal of traffic during the eight months or more before the election. Combining that with what they might have gained if they captured the US based GRU servers and what Crowdstrike might have found on the various Democratic servers would give a pretty substantial basis for the detail in the indictment.
There is no need for American spies in the Clinton (or Trump) campaign.
If.....................
Yes, he's sticking to people who he doesn't have access to. That way he doesn't have to worry about losing an actual trial.
He's more worried about the prospect of having to substantiate the case in open court.
Or he's building a basis for charging Americans of participating in the conspiracy. With the Russian military, no less.
But keep fucking that chicken.

"Or he's building a basis for charging Americans of participating in the conspiracy. With the Russian military, no less.

Right.
Nearly two years and he's 'building' something.
How do fucking imbeciles like you manage to breathe without assistance?
"Eleven of the 12 Russian operatives are charged with either hacking into or "spearphishing" (sending emails to trick people into providing passwords) the computer networks of Democratic Party officials;"
And eleven Ds said: "Password? Sure!"
Not sure who should be indicted for what here.
Not sure who should be indicted for what here.
Ironically, in 2015 Comey's FBI left them a heap of voicemails at a low-level help desk saying that they'd been hacked.
And they refused to cooperate with the FBI because they didn't want the FBI to have access to their data.
Not an unwise move...
That's not the story I heard. It may've, in fact been the case or true, but the story I heard from the DNC was that 'those bungling idiots at the FBI couldn't reach out to anyone who would return a voicemail like a normal person.'
So, the DNC's excuse is that they do not respond to the Federal government when it communicates through legitimate channels.
Sound plausible.
By contemporary reports, the FBI spoke to the person responsible for administration - and security - of the DNC computer network. That is not, or certainly should not be, a "low level help desk" staffer.
A person responsible for the DNC computer network?
The same DNC being run at the time by Debbie Wasserman Shultz?
The same Debbie Wasserman Shultz who hired Imran Awan (along with dozens of other Democrats) to responsible for her computer network?
The same expert Democrat IT recruiting which unanimously waived security checks on these hires?
The correct answer to all three above questions is:
Tom, you're full of shit, Democrats are proven as dangerously retarded with computers without any help from Ru-ru-Russians.
I made no claim for anybody's competence. The administrator clearly was clueless about information system security, deficient in both initiative and judgment, and by contemporary reports was given bad guidance by his superiors at DNC. That said, he was the authorized administrator.
The FBI did pretty much exactly what they should have, and did not, as the earlier poster (mad.casual) claimed, leave "a heap of voicemails at a low-level help desk."
Clueless?
I'd say the leaks were intentional.
"The FBI did pretty much exactly what they should have"? Sounds like someone who has never been involved in a DOJ investigation much less been on the receiving end of a subpoena.
I saw that. Is it possible to make "spearphishing" illegal?
Seems like fraud, at least.
People who fall for scams aren't blameless, but that doesn't excuse scammers.
Sounds to me like the sort of thing a jury in a civil case should be tasked with discerning spearphishing from hoaxes, pranking, catfishing, etc.
The DNC's reply about a typo causing an illegitimate email to be regarded as legitimate sounds pretty fraudulent itself, but I can't prove it.
"People who fall for scams aren't blameless, but that doesn't excuse scammers."
Agreed, especially those who cause real harm to victims with diminished capacities.
I checked the indictment and couldn't find any hint of real harm, other than what should have caused a normal person to be embarrassed.
"People who fall for scams aren't blameless, but that doesn't excuse scammers."
Just to be clear, are we talking about the Russians, or Hillary's campaign?
Fraud seems like a stretch.
It is fairly certain that the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (18 USC 1030), while flawed in many ways, covers spear phishing without stretching it too far.
People who fall for scams aren't blameless, but that doesn't excuse scammers.
I normally feel sorry for people who fall for scams, it's not easy being dumb, but these people are trying to take over the country. So...mixed feelings, to say the least.
But can we still find it funny that The Smartest People In the Room were tricked by badly spelled emails from Nigerian bankers to give up their in-the-dictionary passwords?
I certainly can.
No. That would be a hate crime.
And comments like this are why we need "common sense" speech control.
Where's Preet Bharara when you need him, anyway?
Err...not when the people doing the 'spearphishing' don't fall within the jurisdiction of the United States government. I mean, sure, it can be illegal but there is absolutely nothing you can do about it so...yeah.
And, in fairness, actually using those passwords to steal anything is illegal so...not sure if you really need to stack crimes there.
Podesta: "Password? Yes."
/types 'Password'.
Podesta: "Hm. I don't understand. It's all in....Russian.
/types 'Stop speaking Russian'. Nothing happens.
Podesta: It's probably nothing. I'll let Hillary know. She'll know what to do. Hillary always knows what to do because she cares about us; about America.
"Your username and password are both 'password'?"
"It just seemed easier."
No, that was way to much typing. I just went with 45
I just use eight asterisks; that is what I see everybody else type in, so it must be a good password.
In the summer and fall of 2016, the operatives invented Guccifer 2.0 and used "him" to release additional stolen documents through WordPress.
NOT THE WORDPRESSES!
I can't wait until Guccifer turns out to be the kid from War Games.
He was a victim of Podesta's child sex ring and wanted revenge
I don't know about Matthew Broderick, if he was in a child sex ring it would have probably been on the west coast.
They know who Guccifer 2.0 is. One time he forgot to use his VPN and it traced back to a GRU network in Moscow.
I know I've said this before, but it really feels like Mueller is rapidly closing in. Any day now he'll produce the evidence that finally ousts the Drumpf regime from power.

Well, it is her turn, you know.
Hillary Clinton Could Still Become President if Russia Probe Finds Conspiracy Evidence
Hey, that was my favorite snoozeweek article of the year. Right after recreational sand holes.

Sand hole is my ex-wife's nickname.
She had an abrasive "personality ".

Great! She will help the DEM party destroy itself.
Hillary Clinton was the most qualified presidential candidate ever. She won more total votes than any white male candidate in history. If she wins in 2020, or becomes President before then, she'll immediately begin reversing the damage Orange Hitler has done to the US and the world. She'll unify not just the Democratic Party, but the country as a whole (except the deplorables and bitter clingers).

Holey moley, Lefties are morons with dreams of Hillary in the White House.
Agree. Unfortunately for them, not even the Democrat Party is stupid enough to run someone again who had every conceivable advantage, yet lost to both an unknown black man and a white man who had never run for public office.
The Kremlin probably expected that publicity surrounding the disclosures that followed the Russian Government-directed compromises of e-mails from U.S. persons and institutions, including from U.S. political organizations, would raise questions about the integrity of the election process that could have undermined the legitimacy of the President-elect. Nevertheless, we stand behind our election results, which accurately reflect the will of the American people.
-The NY Times quoting a "Sr. Official" within the Obama Administration.
A Russian Robot tried to brainwash me into voting for trumps but I voted for Gary Johnson 3 times and he still lost.
That's because Penn Jillette got tricked into voting for Hillary 3 times by 3 people who promised to vote for Gary Johnson.
The dems and FBI (under the watch of a dem president) knew that Russian hacking was going on for some time before the election, yet could not get their shit together to stop it. Whose fault is it?
Until anyone shows a single vote that was changed as a result of the hacking and release of factual information to the American public, I don't even care who's fault it is.
The hacking is illegal whether it changed anything or not. Breaking and entering is illegal even if you just jimmy the door and don't steal anything.
Right, so indict them for breaking and entering.
This is why clever people block access from Russia.
The DNC should hire some of those people.
The administration should announce that they're going to launch a thorough investigation to check for voter fraud, in the interest of complete transparency. My guess is the reaction would be crickets followed by a change of topic to the latest twittertubes scandal.
I thought they tried that already and much of the swamp refused to participate.
The right kind of fraud is sacrosanct. It's for the children, you know.

They indicated a company that didn't even exist when the crime they accused it of took place.
No, I do not assume they actually have much of anything.
They are working with the assumption that nobody will actually challenge the indictment.
Under this theory, the New York Times could have been prosecuted for receiving the Pentagon Papers.
Nope. The Pentagon Papers were not private property.
But, the Nixon administration did try to sue.
Nice try!
Happy Clinton sure doesn't like that the Mueller accusations mean nothing.
What's the crime? And no, there is no crime of receiving stolen information. Otherwise the jails would be filled with journalists.
In other words: "Yeah, I don't care if hostile foreign governments hack into presidential and other electoral campaigns with the specific intention of finding embarrassing information that can then be leaked to the public in order to influence the outcome of our elections, not unless it can be conclusively proven that they've actually ever succeeded in their missions."
So are you a traitor, or just not American?
I'm pro-investigative journalism of all types.
I'm sure the Dems and the media (I repeat myself) don't like how incestuous their relationship is made public...but I do not care who revealed it.
I APPLAUD them for doing so.
"So are you a traitor, or just not American?"
Neither.
Just not as fucking stupid as you are.
"...and release of factual information"
I hope a lot of votes were changed due to that release. Further, anyone who obtained and released that information, however it was obtained and whoever released it to the public, should get America's gratitude.

It is extremely difficult to find and eliminate expertly designed and planted malware. It is not possible to do while the systems are in use and may not be possible at all. The the systems must be removed from any network connection to prevent reinfection, storage must be securely erased, and all firmware and software reinstalled from verified safe sources. Some malicious software can be stored on disk drives in locations inaccessible by ordinary software or operating systems, or in the firmware for the processors that operate the disk drive mechanisms. Most recent business systems, and many consumer systems as well, have system management processors separate from the main CPU that can be corrupted and provide access for malicious exploitation.
The safest and surest method by far is to rebuild the systems on new hardware, and restoring data, whether from backups or the compromised machine is problematic as well: the data restored may contain the malware and reinstall it when accessed.
In short, effective removal of serious malware is likely to be so disruptive to operations as to be worse than the affliction.
Lol
Yeah, really hard.
Step 1.
Replace hard drive
Step 2.
Re-install clean operating system

Still pretending that the only substantive issue here is how we can use the revelations to snips at domestic opponents. When the SOLE purpose of Russian disinfo and psyops and cyberwarfare is - to create dissensions in the enemy and eliminate their ability to focus.
They gotta be laughing their heads off that it is STILL working two years AFTER the election.
No kidding.
Your point is proven by the fact that Russians promoted dissent AFTER the election, organizing protest marches and resist campaigns. They wanted civil strife. Democrats happily obliged. Hillary Clinton still hasn't stopped throwing America under the bus!
I suppose the Dems should just roll over and let this happen for the good of the country while Trump denies there was a problem (until recently and under pressure). Or, Republicans can admit we were attacked and vow to get out ahead of it. But since many of the attacks were poised to help Republicans....
Trump did more than his part sowing discord by parroting the Russian propaganda and declaring war on the Russis investigation.
No one is required to react when Trump acts like a moron, but some people feed on it.
He's done less to attack Mueller than Clinton did to attack Starr.
Indeed so, and sadly, the Mueller investigation and congressional inquiries, as necessary as they are, constitute a significant part of the problem. We all should hope for their early conclusion whatever the results may be, and for followup action to address the problem within reason.
It is unlikely that any of the 12 people indicted will be tried, let alone convicted, and other than relatively ineffective measures like sanctions, there probably is not much that can be done without going all China-like and putting up a great firewall. Computer network security is both hard and costly to implement and at best will leave systems with vulnerabilities.
The weakest point, users, is the hardest, most expensive, and least effective part. John Podesta's tale is informative: he received a phish email, recognized it as a risk, asked for and receive appropriate advice, and then cancelled it all out by misinterpreting the advice and giving up his credentials to the phish sender after all. It is easy to be dismissive, but in fact Podesta is not stupid or careless, but also was focused on matters other than computer security. That he had a momentary lapse should be a caution to anyone who thinks, proudly, that he or she would not make such a mistake.
No, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make that mistake.
And what Mueller is doing is not necessary. It's banana republic stuff.
So let me get this straight. Because Trump wants to play kissyface with Putin, the US should simply ignore what the Russians did?

Nope.
A big part of the POTUS' job is dealing with foreign governments, even ones which fucking idiots like now (conveniently( don't like.
But we should really ignore it since it didn't do a damn thing other than give Mueller a job and fucking idiots like you a chance to post your fucking idiotic comments.
You mean the same thing good investigative journalists would do, expose lies and corruption by major US political figures? We shouldn't ignore it, we should thank them.
Their plan thoroughly backfired. They wanted to discredit future President Hillary Clinton, a corrupt liar who they could have easily manipulated. Instead, they got Trump elected. I don't think they are particularly happy.
The aim is to confuse rather than convince, to trash the information space so the audience gives up looking for any truth amid the chaos.

Whatever day it is, Tony can finally admit that Trump had nothing to do with Russian hackers, as per the very reputable Rod Rosenstein announcement today.
Its one less fever dream that Lefties have to endure each night that Trump is president.
Rosenstein said there's no allegations *in this indictment* of any American committing a crime. That doesn't mean there will be no allegations in future indictments.
Our system is not designed to allow continuous fishing expeditions. Sooner or later Mueller must either provide evidence or shut the fuck up. And that time is rapidly approaching.
How about Why You Are a Raging Retarded Twat Volume 2,000,000,000,000?
Someone fell off the turnip truck 11 minutes ago.
I had no idea you were a Reagan Democrat.
I was an infant Republican when Reagan was around. I only stopped being a Republican when Bush the Lesser made it socially untenable. Lots of people didn't get the memo, unfortunately for everyone.
Is that how the best cocktail parties work in Tulsa?
I've been to receptions and I've been to parties. I don't really know what a cocktail party is. If there's no booze, it's not a party, so why the redundancy?
And how drunk do you have to be before you start caring about that?
I don't get drunk, I'm a professional.
I never went for a career in alcoholism. It doesn't look like it pays very well.
So you vote based off social pressure and not actual intelligent thought . Sounds right.
Tony|7.13.18 @ 3:05PM|#
"I was an infant Republican when Reagan was around."
You're a fucking ignoramus now.
They hacked the RNC as well, but they found nothing damaging. Apparently the Republicans some some combination of more competent and/or less corrupt than the Dems.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/10/.....index.html
Not what Comey said at all, of course, but don't let that stop you from lying.
No, the point was that, allegedly, the Russians backed both sides and found nothing on the GOP side but did find plenty of sleaze from the Dems.
Why do you support suppressing the truth?
Tony needs to #walkaway.
You can have Tony's AFSCME card when you pry it from his cold, dead fingers.
Maybe the Russians hoped to pin Trump for the hacking crime and let Hillary give more US Uranium to Russia.
At least Tony can finally admit that Trump had nothing to do with tampering with election 2016.
"Tell Vladimir I'll have more flexibility after the election"
Flexibility to do what exactly? Allow him to take over more territory?
"Why I am a Democrat, volume 2,476:"
Because taking responsibility is HARD!
Foreign actors with ill intentions toward the United States don't like Democrats being in charge.
I'm not sure why they wouldn't want Democrats in charge since Democrats don't do anything to stop foreign actors with ill intentions toward the United States. Or did you forget that Obama and Hillary were the one's who dreamed up that 'reset' button with Russian relations? How'd that work out, since these days you seem to view them as an existential threat even while you laughed at Romney and thought the 80's needed it's foreign policy back.
You must get cognitive whiplash a lot.
Democrats put sanctions on Russia.
Trump pledged to give them "a good deal".
Trump has not enforced the sanctions passed with a veto-proof majority of Congress.
It was Andrew McCarthy who said he thought Trump was paid for by Putin.
"Trump has not enforced the sanctions passed with a veto-proof majority of Congress."
The US has placed additional sanctions on last month. Damn you are delusional.
Come now; this is the web, not real life. Facts are just a convenience, not a necessity.
Trump expanded oil production and armed countries around Russia while Obama did the opposite.
But tell me more, HC.
Yes, Iran was really suffering from all of Obama's gold and cash gifts
The Russians, Chinese, and Saudis care less about the political affiliation than they do the competence of the leadership. But clearly they've hit the jackpot with Trump. Either out of malignant intent or sheer incompetence, he has handed them win after win, with almost no need on their part to concede an inch.
It's just amazing to me that the Trumpists here don't see that. We indict Russian agents for trying to interfere in our elections; intelligence assessments come out saying they were attempting to throw the election in favor of Trump; Trump proceeds to rattle the EU, NATO, the WTO, and the whole slew of international organizations that have been key to projecting American power since WWII. But still they whine that we haven't produced direct evidence that there is a "colluding" link there. So say there's not one. Does that make things better for us?
...by expressing the same issues American Presidents have had with all those groups for years now, mind you.
proceeds to rattle the EU, NATO, the WTO, and the whole slew of international organizations that have been key to projecting American power since WWII.
This is the feature, not the bug. Learn to recognize the source of your pain: "projecting American power since WWII"
Ted Kennedy EXPLICITLY worked with the Soviets to try and beat Reagan in 1984.
Tell me more, Tony.
Other people may profess different reasons for this unfortunate affliction with varying degrees of rational coherence.
In your case, however, it's pretty obvious it's because you're a disingenuous, innumerate moron with a lot of free time.
I just remembered this because of Tony's always insightful contribution, but didn't the Russian hackers attempt to hack Republican leaders' email too but (miraculously) they were less retarded at email than the Dems so it didn't work?
The Russians managed to hack into the brains of the Republicans.
There is evidence that older servers of the GOP were hacked. We don't know if more current servers were hacked.
The difference was that the Russians were trying to help the Republicans, so they would not release what they had. Also, they may have private Republican info that is useful as blackmail.
After all, it was Kevin McCarthy who said he thought two people were on the Russian payroll, Dana Rohrbacher and Donald Trump.
LOL
Even Senate Republicans agree.
RINOs? Yeah, they hate Trump too.
The Russians were trying to hurt Hillary, not help the Republicans. That seems to get lost in the TDS
It was payback for when she messed with their election.
They were trying to hurt America. And they succeeded by helping Republicans.
Hackers always help America. They expose the liars that are the Democrats.
Trump would have won no matter what hackers did or didnt do. He will win again in 2020.
Chinese hackers need to get to work exposing Republican lies.
No kidding. Clinton's didnt launder money for them in the 90s not to get help today.
Hackers always help America. They expose the liars that are the Democrats.
Trump would have won no matter what hackers did or didnt do. He will win again in 2020.
The Russian Hackers were trying to hurt American and happened to help Trump. The FBI was trying to protect America and help Hillary and did far more to influence the election and get Trump elected.
Hillary Clinton, the FBI, and the Obama administration were inferior to a two-bit team of a dozen Russian hackers running a phishing scam. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
Tony|7.13.18 @ 3:34PM|#
"They were trying to hurt America."
Shitbag cares about "America" like the hag cares about "the truth".
And like most of Russia's plans, it backfired: they revealed the truth about Hillary.
The Trump Tower meeting is evidence of Russia seeking to help Trump.
The Russians who gave information to Steele is evidence they wanted to help Hillary. This was fun.
The Russians did not communicate with anyone in the Hillary campaign.
The Russians did not know, as Steele did not know, that the ultimate client was the Hillary campaign.
The Russians were not speaking with direction from chain of command, in fact they face punishment and possible death for speaking with him.
Other than that, it's the same thing as when Don Jr. got an email about high ranking officials in the Putin government wanting to help him win the election.
Happy Chandler|7.13.18 @ 7:07PM|#
"The Russians did not communicate with anyone in the Hillary campaign.
................."
Happy Horseshit is posting claims without evidence once more.
Happy, stuff it up your ass.
In a meeting where literally nothing happened and Don Jr walked out in five minutes. And the Russian then went back to her friends at Fusion GPS, who was working with Hillary.
It was not just to hurt Hillary.
It was not just to help Trump.
It was to help Trump and Bernie, and denigrate Hillary and Republican candidates such as Cruz and Rubio.
All information released during the election helped Americans decide to not vote Hillary.
Oh well, I guess the first amendment protects the freedom of the press.
Oh, goody; fucking lefty loony heard from:
"Happy Chandler|7.13.18 @ 3:09PM|#
There is evidence that older servers of the GOP were hacked."
'There is evidence...', 'someone said...', sources claim...',
Bullshitters bullshit, bullshitter.
Er Happy, Since "the Russians were trying to help the Republicans, so they would not release what they had", why did they hack them in the first place?
They hacked the GOP to install better firewalls. Duh.
To have leverage over them.
To know what internals they have to better handle them.
To know what they're thinking to run circles around them.
It's called spycraft. We spy on our friends.
I thought spies try not get caught.
I guess Mueller is that good.

"To have leverage over them.

It's called spycraft. We spy on our friends."
Happy Horseshit posted this, right there above.
So do we have one of the most dirt-stupid lefty imbeciles or is this another 'OBL' attempt at satire?
Yes, yes! Their cunning master plan was to bet on the win of Donald Trump, a win that surprised 99.9% of the American and foreign intelligentsia. Because betting high on losing horses is what Russians do!
So have they started the other trial yet? You know, the one where the company under indictment showed up to dispute the indictments and suddenly Mueller wasn't ready for trial?
1) The company didn't show up. They sent lawyers.
2) Their request to see grand jury info was dismissed.
3) Their motion that Mueller was improperly appointed is going about as well as it did when Manafort tried.
4) They're in discovery now.
""4) They're in discovery now.""
Mueller has not given any evidence to the defense and is employing delay tactics.
Which the judge did grant.
The postponement that is.
Fake news.
The delay motion was not granted. The case has moved. It has not provided the fireworks that the Russians/Republicans thought it would, so you haven't heard much.
Fake news you say?
""Judge Dabney L. Friedrich, a Trump appointee, accepted the request, granting "that the period of period May 23, 2018 to August 28, 2018 is excluded for purposes of Speedy Trial Act calculations." Friedrich had rejected an earlier request from Mueller without comment and ordered the case to go forward. The Speedy Trial Act is a 44-year old federal law that dictates that a federal criminal case must begin within 70 days from the date of the indictment.""
http://dailycaller.com/2018/05.....sia-trial/
From your article:
Ahhh, it was agreed to by the defendant. I see!
Of course. The judge would only grant it if that were true.
So much for fake news claims.
Okay. For a very complex case, both parties agreed to waive the right to a speedy trial, as it will take a long time to prepare.
What was your point?
"What was your point?"
That you are full of shit.
"1) The company didn't show up. They sent lawyers."
How incredibly devious of the company. No one ever expects the lawyers.
Warren Zevon agrees.

Damned nefarious Rooskies!
People are already anxious about what could happen there.
Is that cocktail party feedback, Shack? Three phrases that guarantee a sentence has no substance:
* "People are"
* "Sources say"
* "There are studies"
one of my favorite NPR phrases "some would argue"
Exactly.
And some would use named, reliable, verifiable sources.
The latter are called journalists.
If I remember correctly; it has been so long - - - - - -
"President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday. People are already anxious about what could happen there."
If he sticks to the playbook (rebrand whatever Reagan did), he'll announce plans to negotiate a reduction in nukes
"Them dang dadgum Russkies hacked into our votin' machines!!!!!!"
-The national association of Block Yomommatards and Hildoggers
Nice headline. Very Shackfordesque.
Eleven people indicted for phishing the DNC, one for hacking state voter rolls. Yet somehow that translates to twelve indicted for hacking 'voting systems.'
TDS is a terrible thing.
Its why nobody trusts the media.
They cannot just give a fact and let that be it.
They have to spin everything to help Lefties and attack Trump and other non-Lefties.
Shack don't care about accuracy. He just wants an invite to the good parties on Fire Island.
Hey, no clicks, no pay.
A subtle mischaracterization, but it does make a difference. They pulled info from the dnc servers and got the voter information of 500k people from somewhere. Kinda gotta show me what was done with the data to make me concerned beyond the aspect of a compromised database. These headlines and articles about "Russian meddling" seem to imply major issues then fail to present it
How does this indictment square with the concept of qualified immunity?
They were acting in their official capacities. Using official servers.
How seriously would we take an indictment of a US Colonel who oversaw Stuxnet?
This indictment is childish.
The article seems to imply that this would have been ok if they were legitimate leakers. I don't follow that line of argument.
This is the culmination of Mueller's work and hacking foreign computers is exactly what the US intel services do.
In fact, the CIA would intercept Cisco servers going overseas and implant hardware to better allow US Intel services to hack the equipment.
I guess cyber-security is important after all, and not just a GOP talking point.
But during his press conference, Rosenstein said, "there is no allegation in this indictment that any American citizen committed a crime."
He also said, "There is no allegation that the conspiracy changed the vote count or affected any election result. The special counsel's investigation is ongoing."
Lefties hardest hit.
The operative words being "in this indictment" and "investigation is ongoing".
No meat on those bones.
Not that the rabid care.
Yeah, I can't imagine why Rosenstein would tack on these qualifiers except to completely exonerate the president and all his advisors of any wrongdoing whatsoever.
"Yeah, I can't imagine why Rosenstein would tack on these qualifiers except to completely exonerate the president and all his advisors of any wrongdoing whatsoever."
Could be to point out that imbeciles like you are, well, imbeciles.
The lack of patriotism in these comments would be expected from a group of individualists, but unfortunately it's not a lack of patriotism but a sad, embarrassing devotion to the Republican party. You should all get a fucking life man.
Tony acting like he knows what patriotism is.
Tony and his Lefty Democrats want to destroy the Constitution and any American culture that they can get their hands on.
Hillary lost and it is glorious for America!
The only thing glorious about Trump is the hole in the bathroom stall next to Sean Hannity's office.
Poor Tony has had a rough day. Mueller's probe found hackers hacked DNC emails.
The DOJ and FBI are some real competent bureaucrats aren't they?
Tony|7.13.18 @ 3:36PM|#
"The only thing glorious about Trump is the hole in the bathroom stall next to Sean Hannity's office."
Oh, no, shitbag. The best thing is that he keeps scum like you out of what passes for your minds.
didnt your mother teach you anything about manners? There is no excuse for that! That kind of language is uncouth and uncalled for, and has no place in thoughtful discourse. You should be ashamed, AShAMED of yourself for what you've said and done, which reveals the true nature of you and everyone who thinks like you! Why the nerve! I couldn't clutch my pearls and harder!
Tony|7.13.18 @ 3:30PM|#
"The lack of patriotism in these comments..."
This slimy son of a bitch is now trying to wrap himself in the FLAG?!
What was that about 'last resorts...'?
I suspect for Tony, 'last resort' means the one Trump built just before the impeachment.
That's GOOD!
I hope it has a white-sand beach and good bars.
If Tony were President of the US. The fact that it's played by Alan Alda is even better.
"...where that person is alleged to have stolen information about roughly 500,000 voters."
Isn't that public record? I guess all the telemarketers that bug me based on my voter info, stole it?
Damn Russians!
Much non-public information stolen. But, excuse away! It helps Trump!
you dont have citations, Im sure.
Happy Horseshit is certain the hag was fired upon in the Near East somewhere; Horseshit saw it on CNN!
Well. That explains why that mysterious guy with the thick accent named Boris kept leaving me voicemails. He really had me convinced to vote for Trump, too. Scary.
At the last minute, however, in a supreme act of will I managed to vote for Gary Johnson. Out of respect for Democratic ideas of democracy, I did so again nine times.
That showed those nefarious Rooskies!
So we're indicting 12 foreign sounding names that will never go to trial for hacking Hillary's illegal server?
What does any of this have to do with the 'collusion' that Mueller has been trying to fabricateuncover?
A candidate for congress requested and received stolen, valuable information.
Barack Obama?
David Hogg?
A DA friend of mine once said that the old saw about a DA being able to indict a sandwich was absolutely true. People were starting to get tired of Mueller and his ilk so he indicts 12 Russians knowing he will never, NEVER, have to prove a case against them. Mueller's stock rises. It's so good to be a sleazy bureaucrat.
So presumably these "12 Russian Operatives" must have bought a USB stick and paid for Seth Rich's Uber ride to and from DNC headquarters?
So, someone remind me - does "Trump derangement syndrome" refer to the phenomenon where people will say and believe anything in order to defend Trump from event the clearest evidence of wrongdoing? Or did it mean something else? It's getting hard to keep track...
You know what TDS means because you do it on purpose.
I know what people think "TDS" means. But far more of the deranged behavior I see is on the part of his supporters.
PDS - Political Derangement Syndrome?
SimonP|7.13.18 @ 5:39PM|#
"So, someone remind me - does "Trump derangement syndrome" refer to the phenomenon where people will say and believe anything in order to defend Trump from event the clearest evidence of wrongdoing?"
No.
It refers to imbeciles like you who scream that TRUMP HAS TINY HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!, and other, oh, so relevant comments.
I know someone as afflicted with the disease as you are has a hard time dealing with reality, but it's been nearly two years.
Get over it.
The Russians MAY have hacked the DNC servers; it's certainly not impossible, especially given the apparently amateurish security they were using. And now Russia has the benefit of a genuine US indictment to attest to genuine Russian hacking. So henceforth, the GRU doesn't even have to steal information; now they can just make up stuff and leak it, and it will automatically be believed, because "everybody knows" they did it before.
The eighties called, they want their foreign policy back.
I still claim that hacking into the DNC and revealing embarrassing emails should be lauded a great achievement in journalism. The 11 Russians should be given a Pulitzer Prize.
One man's hacker is another man's whistle-blower.
The Woodward & Bernstein twelve has a nice ring to it.
So the Russians were the sole source of the TRUTH about Bill's wife durinv the election. And that's the reason for the indictments...
Trump should order Rosenstein and Mueller to go to Russia and personally arrest the 12 and bring them back for trial.
Dead or alive. Can they raise a posse and ride in on horseback. That would be cool.
Joe Biden could bring his double barrel shotgun!
I regret that your article distributes bullshit-propaganda the grand jury ingested and expelled as an "indictment."
The indictment issues from merde fitting just to cultivate poison mushrooms, not a truly "true bill."
Reporting the news is distributing propaganda.
A journeyman news-report would simply have stated the fact of the indictment and quoted the indictment's allegations as mere allegations. Such is not what Scott Shackford's article does. Rather, the article treats many indictment-allegations as if clearly demonstrated facts.
An objective journalistic analysis would have questioned the indictment's allegations with the many available, well-evidenced facts that indicate the illegitimacy of the indictment. Scott Shackford's article effects support of the indictment, as if the indictment states proven facts.
So the Russians have been dicking with our elections? I AM SHOCKED!
Debbie Schultz turned down help with cyber-security and turned it down?
SHOCKING!
Then President O'bama actively worked against Netanyahu in an Israeli election.
HYPOCRISY!
I know. Pretty scary stuff, right? And it really was her turn, so can we claim this is the smoking gun, since something, something, russkis?
I mean, really, how many times do lefty dimbulbs have to scream RUSSKIS!!!!!!!!! before the rest of us.......
collapse in laughter?
Yes, and in the proud tradition of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein: by publicly exposing misconduct by one of the major US parties!
You have to give the TDS Democrats and their Fake News lapdogs an A for timing and tone. As always, they took a tiny morsel of truth and made a sixteen course meal out of it that they will serve to us, and serve to us, and serve to us.
As my favorite poet, Emily Dickinson, put it so beautifully:
"As lightning to the children eased
with explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind--"
from Tell All the Truth but Tell It Slant
Given his prior indictments of Russian entities, Mueller is hoping nobody actually shows up for a hearing.
Who cares? He should either incriminate Trump or clear him and get on with it.
Thank God we have that extradition treaty with Russia.
Because this is what genuine, credible counter-intelligence investigations do, right? Publicly indict foreign intelligence officers in criminal court, extradite and arrest them, then get them to flip. Right?
So when does Rosenstein go after the inscrutable orientals and those devious Pakistani IT guys?
Oh. Right.
Real news would have been that it has been proven that Russia or China has never meddled in our elections. The revelation about 12 Russian operatives is as news worthy as water is still wet or the Sun rises in the East.

I really enjoyed working with him and the few friends I told have been nothing but thankful to me for the referral.
I have concluded that the Russian "meddling" in our last election and the associated claim "hacking" are basically fashionable excitement words that Democrats in the media and in their own interactions employ to keep their propa-drenaline levels up.
What the Russians did was probing. They probe for weakness. They probe for knowledge that might be useful later on if someone does win an election. They probe because they might get lucky and blackmail pays. It is also a mistake to assume that all "Russian" hackers are reporting directly to the FSB in Moscow in real time and are taking orders from there.
The dumbed-down Clinton clingers use the words meddling and hacking the way extreme greenies use the words renewable and sustainable. To na?ve idealists who are pumped up on the dogma such words seem so full of precise and intelligent importance. In reality, they represent only muddled catchphrase tautologies at best.
Anyhow, the headline writers of the left are out in full force today in TDS mode. They bash Melania's fashion line, the meeting with Putin from every possible angle, and the always imminent moment of POTUS telling Mueller to stand down, shut up, and wait for himself and his witch hunt posse to all be exposed and indicted themselves along with Rosenstein, Comey, Strzok, McCabe, and all the FISA-abusing Obama crew
. . .They are afraid the denouement of Mueller is going to happen. I am afraid it is not going to happen.
We should thank them.
I hope exposing DNC malfeasance would influence the outcome of the election.
Thereby not just exposing the DNC's dirty secrets, but also their incompetence when it comes to security.
You know, the information leaked by the Russians revealed such things as the DNC trying to sabotage Bernie, openly collaborating with the media, and Brazile leaking debate questions to Hillary.
The democrats are deeply hurt because the Russians didn't reveal any the GOP's dirty laundry. But the voters don't have to care about that. And when you try to sabotage your own people, you're going to burn some bridges. The Russians didn't make them do that.
Obviously the government has to do something about foreign meddling in our elections. But Trump had 90% chance of losing. NINETY percent. Rosenstein is the latest intelligence official to confirm that Russian hacking had to effect on the outcome of the election. Clinton was a lousy candidate and the DNC worshipped the ground she walked on.
Scott Shackford,
US citizens should have the right to know the following information, even if it is obtained from Russian Intelligence Officers:
How many of the DNC server e-mails discuss contributions or cash donations in return for "PAY TO PLAY" federal government loan guarantees such as the Solyndra type US government money loan guarantees?
How many of the DNC server e-mails discuss contributions or cash donations in return for "PAY TO PLAY" CGI Federal government ACA no-bid type contracts at many times the costs that other companies would provide the same service?
How many of the DNC server e-mails discuss contributions or cash donations in return for PAY TO PLAY for Military-Industrial Complex NO-BID military contract(s) at many times the costs that other companies would provide the same service?
How many of the DNC server e-mails discuss contributions or cash donations in return for pork barrel NO-BID contract(s) for infrastructure improvements, and other outrageous no-bid Federal government contract awards at grossly inflated prices many times the costs that other companies would provide the same service?
How many of the DNC server e-mails were from a foreign government, foreign citizens, and/or their foreign PAC representatives?
How many of the DNC server e-mails have any evidence of cash payments for Uranium One approval, F-15s for Saudi Arabia, or additional "Chinagate" type of political TREASON bribery deals with a foreign nation for money?
All of those e-mails and much, much, more are happily stored at the Utah Data Center waiting for release.
