Government Can't Find Parents for 38 Children Under 5 in its Custody
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar feels aggreived at how fast he's being ordered to comply with the court order to reunite captive immigrant children with parents.

Correction: This post and its headline initially mistakenly reported that a government lawyer's need to dogsit this weekend had delayed the providing of a master list of immigrant children in captivity and their status for two days. In fact, the deadline for the list was still due Saturday July 7 and the lawyer's duties did not affect that. The headline and the post have been edited to correct the error, which I regret.

The government admitted today in court in a hearing before U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw of the Southern District of California that they can't find parents for 38 migrant children under the age of 5 currently in custody. For half of those 38 kids, the parents were already deported; half the parents are no longer in government custody but the government doesn't know how to find them.
Government officials feel aggrieved in general at the stress caused by their practice, now halted, of separating parents and children in enforcing misdemeanor border-crossing crimes. On Thursday Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar complained of the rush to review the cases of the almost 3,000 child detainees to meet the court-imposed deadline. As reported by NBC, Azar said "It's important to remember that information from children can at times be unreliable." The method they are trying to use is cheek-swab DNA tests from all the captive children.
Judge Sabraw's original deadlines for reunification were July 10 for kids under 5, and July 26 for those 5-17. Azar laments some of their traditional vetting processes may have to be abandoned in the face of what he calls such "extreme" deadlines.

Don't care.
I don't either. I would have held the deadline, tossing one government official in jail hourly until compliance occurred.
I sense compliance would have been swift. Authoritarians value their liberty; it's others' liberty regarding which they are callous.
I'd agree with that.
I would be for taking everyone of those 'caged' children and shipping them to a bleeding heart Progressives' house...we could use Amazon.
That is just mean...to the kids
Agree. Also, the Vatican would make a nice home for them.
yeah i agree with your opinion
Obligatory immigration article reaction.
I guess today it's Brian Doherty's turn to virtue signal.
he's gone full Progtard. "The Process" of finding if kids even belong to adults in custody isn't affected at all by this lawyer having weekend plans
Jeezus, what a shit article and headline
The lawyer is not the one doing the identifying and reuniting, she is the one going to a status conference.
She is buying more time for the people doing the work putting together the list
Just take the dogs to a shelter or put them in doggy cages in the backyard with some water and some dogfood and maybe a couple of bones. They're dogs.
Gasp.
Some professors would accuse you of speciesism for being so cavalier about the welfare of dogs.
At minimum, some of those kids with tetchier DNA could be turned into dogfood.
They're illegal. They have committed crimes against the great collective. If there was any justice in this world they would never see their children again. Because they are illegal.
C'mon Brian. You know the rules.
When it comes to pointing out hypocritical behavior in support of a leftist mission, then there should be no fewer than 20 articles mocking and ridiculing and pointing it out. Because leftism is nothing but hypocrisy, don't you see. And terror, and evil. They are the real enemy. Every single transgression should be laid bare for all to see no matter how slight. In fact we haven't had an article recently about Obama playing golf or something. Get on that, why don't you!
But when it comes to pointing out hypocritical behavior in support of a rightist mission, then it is just empty virtue signaling. Don't you have anything better to write? It's not even a serious argument. Besides, the righties have to fight the massive existential evil of THE LEFT(tm) headed by supervillain George Soros. Cut them a little slack why don't you. "New Rules" and all that.
Anyone who says anything critical of Trump is a raging leftist Obama Hillary voter. Not only that, but any publication critical of Trump has never been critical of Obama or anyone on the left. This article is proof positive that every Reason employee voted for Hillary. Anyone who disagrees is a communist.
Trumpty Dumpty, He's quite off-the-wall,
Trumpty Dumpty won't stay in His toilet stall
He just goes ahead and takes His shits,
Totally regardless of whereever He sits
Whenever He simply, no way, can sleep,
He Twits us His thoughts, they're all SOOO deep!
He simply must, He MUST, Twit us His bird,
No matter the words, however absurd!
He sits and snorts His coke with a spoon,
Then He brazenly shoots us His moon!
They say He'll be impeached by June,
Man, oh man, June cannot come too soon!
So He sits and jiggles His balls,
Then He Twitters upon the walls
"Some come here to sit and think,
Some come here to shit and stink
But I come here to scratch my balls,
And read the writings on the walls
Here I sit, My cheeks a-flexin'
Giving birth to another Texan!
Here I sit, on the pooper,
Giving birth to another state trooper!
He who writes these lines of wit,
Wraps His Trump in little balls,
He who reads these lines of wit,
Eats those loser's balls of shit!"
It's Law and Order because I believe it. Even if few misdemeanor charges would get such treatment. And also, even if they shouldn't the crime should be a felony anyway, and because I believe that it's Law and Order.
Explain how this entire fiasco started when Jon Faverau, former Obama Speechwriter...posted pictures claiming it was Trump's treatment of children...then it was discovered the pictures came from Obama's treatment of children in 2014?
Hilarious hysterics from the 'Righteous'.
+^
Not seeing this a right/left issue, just R/D, and Obama got a pass for doing the exact same thing since it isn't Trump.
Yes, it sucks that Obama gets to be "free" of these burdens; however, this doesn't vindicate the current version of the government douche parade and their treatment of people.
Youre aware that the entire story is BS, right?
At least according ti Trump apologists Vox and Huffpo reporters, who said that the NBC comment was wrong.
You guys having fun with your circlejerk and strawmanning?
DNA testing.
No wonder the government cannot just get children back to parents.
Ask one of those idiots the difference between a purine and a pyrimidine. Ask them the difference between a nucleotide, nucleoside, or polynucleotide.
Now take a 4 year old and ask her to identify her mother.
Ya, we should just hand children back to the traffickers, confirming relation is just stupid.
BTW...go to Wal-Mart and open a Fudgesicle in front of Mom and a 4 year old....guess what?
Mom is gonna stampede you down for that Fudgesicle....leaving 4 year old behind and crying.
That's just science!
So at least 19 of the illegals have abandoned their kids?
Is there any evidence that these 38 kids actually came to the US with their parents?
Or that their parents *want* to be found?
All I see is "we can't find the parents".
If you were a trafficker, maybe you wouldn't be waiting to pick up the kid you trafficked.
Yeah that was my question as well.
Same here. This tells me that their supposed "parents" were not their real parents, at all. If they were, they would be eagerly looking for their children.
This isn't Romney's "voluntary deportation" that we're talking about here.
"A government lawyer said she could not attend a status conference over the weekend because she had out-of-town dog-sitting responsibilities.""
Pretty sure that would get most of us a contempt of court charge.
All she meant was that this is a dog of a case.
Are there "thousands of kids" waiting to be reunited with their parents? Most of kids we have are unaccompanied minors. And lot of the parents request to be released without their kids. Many don't make their court date.
I sometimes wonder if I give Trump too much benefit of the doubt. The travel ban was constitutionally kosher but it was probably more trouble than anything else. But I'm fairly convinced that Trump is doing the right thing here. 5,000 - 10,000 people crossing dangerous terrain to reach the border every other year is just a human tragedy waiting to happen. That kid on the Time Magazine cover was effectively kidnapped by her mother, who just wanted a job in the USA.
The writers here are big on unintended consequences, I don't know why they don't see it when immigration is involved. The human smugglers know we won't prosecute minors, and nothing especially bad will happen to the parents in the long run. So they'll accept cash to make the deliveries, and if they ditch the group, the border patrol will likely save them. They're more astute than the unhinged retards who think we're literally sending people to concentration camps.
Obviously, something had to be done to stop this sort of thing from happening regularly. This isn't some partisan issue. Even the biggest demagogue, which include both Obama and Trump, knew that this wasn't something the nation or its citizens would tolerate on an annual basis. Obama admitted to using detention as a deterrent.
"The writers here are big on unintended consequences, I don't know why they don't see it when immigration is involved. "
Open Borders Uber Alles
Is it time for people who think borders don't matter to start nation building in Mexico? What argument can they make against establishing new libertarian cities on the Mexican side of the border to create a new life in Mexico for people struggling to get into the USA?
These mostly aren't Mexicans, and the Mexicans don't want them there.
Lol!
FAKE NEWS
Government given two extra days to report on status of the child detainees; admits it already can't find at least 38 kids' parents.
That's really not very many. I'd wager those "parents" either weren't the real parents or don't want to be found. Anyone here a parent? If any of my kids were in government detention, them finding me wouldn't be an issue. Getting me to shut up would be the issue.
Exactly, cloudbuster.
Incredibly dumb article
The problem is detaining folks who have no business being here in the first place
Drive thru hearings are what's needed
Pick them up put them in a waiting line to see the judge and then back on the bus to where they came from
So, Elise Foley of HuffPo said that the tweet that started all of this was inaccurate.
Vox's Dara Lind:
Yet...Reason ran with it. Reason, who routinely sees smears against their positions decides that smears against ones they don't like are peachy-keen.
I'm amazed at the number of SJW Woketards who just don't care about the substance of the report, just that it is anti-Drumpf.
A lawyer and a judge rescheduling a meeting has ZERO impact on the "process" of identifying families at the border
" Judge Sabraw's original deadlines for reunification were July 10 for kids under 5, and July 26 for those 5-17. "
I missed Sabraw's coronation as Emperor of the US. It's odd. I can't find any video on it at Youtube.
Anyone got a link?

It's a "misdemeanor" only because we don't want to give every tourist who accidentally walks a bit too far across the Canadian border a felony record. The people illegally crossing from Mexico are likely not just guilty of misdemeanor border crossing, but also of a variety of felonies as part of their illegal migration.
The most likely explanation is that those 38 kids came in with adults who were merely pretending to be their parents in order to make migration into the US easier.
