Shaun Harrison, dean of Boston's English High School, has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for shooting one of his students. Prosecutors say that soon after arriving at the school, Harrison recruited Luis Rodriguez to sell marijuana for him. When sales were not as brisk as Harrison wanted, he shot Rodriguez.

I'm conflicted whenever someone floats the idea that arming teachers is the solution to school shootings.

On the one hand, I think restrictions on firearms are as useless as restrictions on drugs, alcohol, etc..., and I think in general never knowing when someone is armed tends to promote civil behavior, so I wouldn't stop a teacher from being armed.

On the other hand, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that at least two of my teachers would have shot me any number of times in my academic career.

The bullet entered near Rodriguez's right ear and just missed his carotid artery, breaking his jawbone and causing nerve damage and hearing loss.
Reads like he shot him in the side of the head on a slight downward trajectory. Not efficient at all.
