Sudanese security forces shut down a press conference planned by the attorney of a teen who was sentenced to death for killing a man she was forced to marry. Noura Hussein says the man raped her as his relatives held her down. Human rights activists say shutting down the press conference was just the latest move by the government to keep media from reporting on the case, which has drawn attention to the problem of forced marriage in the country.

So does this case illustrate the conservatarian "hairy edge" of what is right, and what is wrong, or not? I mean, God = Allah and God-Allah has SAID that women are to submit to their men, and all, right? The biggest "hairy edge" here for conservatarians must be, is God = Allah really correct, or not? Maybe? But the"Holy Writings" in both cases ==> "women are to submit to their men", so WTF?!?!

I was raised by my teachers in a government run school to believe in mutual consent. A day or two before my wedding, our Orthodox rabbi told me that she can say "no" but I cannot. This was after my mom's family saved the wedding by harassing me until I took more psych drugs. Can anyone think of a country that gives all residents the right to refuse a spouse that wants access to one's reproductive system and a psychiatrist that wants access to one's nervous system?

Well, I definitely see the self-defense arguement when the threat of rape is immediate. The Laurana Bobbit case was a different situation. Bobbit was a grown woman who could have moved out and filed for divorce. Noura Husein is a girl with little legal recourses. Even attacking her husband in his sleep might be justfiable in that situation.

If I may offer a segway into intersectionality and the Black Lives Matter movement:

Much depends on which Muslim-majority country we are talking about. When my Albanian-American ex-roommate told me that a Muslim husband has the right to have sex with his wife whenever he wants (He and I usually have a complicated relationship status.), I thought he was offering to treat me the way my ex-wife had treated me. It took about a week to discover that he was all bark and no bite. Granted, we were both kind of distracted by the homophobic, racist, religiously intolerant Protestant African-American man who came with the apartment and felt empowered to set the rules thanks to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Oh, and for those of you who like to bring up Trump's foreign policy, I was in the Old City of Jerusalem on Thursday, when I noticed that the map said the path through the Muslim quarter between the Damascus Gate and the Temple Mount is called The Gay Street. I just had to get a picture of that street sign. One guy warned me that it is dangerous for me to wander that neighborhood on a Thursday night and offered to give me a quick tour. I turned him down and found the sign on my own. The English and Arabic say something different, but in Hebrew, it is The Gay Street. If a Muslim neighborhood is dangerous like that on a Thursday night, one has to feel sorry for any LGBT lads unlucky enough to be born in Bethlehem in recent years.
