Democratic Darling Eric Schneiderman Fought for Harvey Weinstein's Victims While Allegedly Abusing His Own Sex Partners: Reason Roundup
Plus: Worrying stats in the new NSA surveillance report and the joys of "cultural appropriation."
New York Attorney General claims consensual BDSM sex but resigns anyway amid allegations from four women. Eric Schneiderman pushed "justice for victims" of Harvey Weinstein…while allegedly victimizing women himself. The Democratic attorney general of New York resigned on Monday, three hours after the publication of a New Yorker story in which four women accuse Schneiderman of physical abuse.
According to the article, by Jane Mayer and Ronan Farrow, the victims had consented to romantic or sexual activity with Schneiderman but not consented to being slapped or choked during that activity.
In one especially damning bit for New York Democrats, one of the accusers claims friends in high places told her that Schneiderman—a vocal critic of the Trump administration and supposed advocate against sexual violence—was too valuable to liberal politics to out as an abuser.
On Monday evening, Schneiderman resigned amid calls for him to do so from New York's Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and U.S. Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand. "My personal opinion is that, given the damning pattern of facts and corroboration laid out in the article, I do not believe it is possible for Eric Schneiderman to continue to serve as Attorney General, and for the good of the office, he should resign," said Cuomo.
"While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office's work at this critical time," Schneiderman said yesterday. "I therefore resign my office, effective at the close of business on May 8, 2018."
Schneiderman also denied that the actions he stands accused of were non-consensual. "In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity," he said. "I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross."
But Farrow is rejecting the idea that the women in his story had consented to some sort of kinky or BDSM sex with Schneiderman. "This wasn't 50 Shades of Grey—there was no grey area at all," he told CNN on Tuesday morning.
It's now up to state legislators to pick a replacement for Schneiderman.
NSA spying on the rise. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) warns of several worrying statistics in the new National Security Agency (NSA) report on its surveillance activities. For instance, in 2017, the NSA collected data on three times the number of calls than it did the previous year—that means more than 530 million call records—with no explanation for the increase. In addition, the report fails to mention how many "unique identifiers" (like phone numbers and other identifying metadata) that the agency collected, despite being required by law to report this info.
And it shows that the NSA is collecting less data that requires a court order to obtain—something that could be a good sign, suggests ACLU Legislative Counsel Neema Singh Guliani, or it could mean that the NSA is using other warrantless means to obtain wanted data.
In addition, "the number of foreign targets for certain types of warrantless surveillance has increased by the largest percentage ever reported," notes Guliani. In 2017, the number of people subject to warrantless surveillance authorized under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act rose 20 percent, and "this data is being mined more often to look for the content of Americans' communications—despite the fact that the law prohibits the government from using Section 702 to target Americans."
"Appropriation is actually the food on which culture thrives." In the Los Angeles Times today, Alexander Nazaryan explores culture, art, appropriation, and influence in a riff on an American teen's Chinese-style prom dress that detours into Coney Island beer halls with Asian food and the back-and-forth between artists of vastly different eras.
"Pablo Picasso learned about portraiture from African masks," writes Nazaryan. "Picasso's work in turn informed Jean-Michel Basquiat, who applied similar techniques to chronicle the life of an African American male in the late 20th century. As for the qipao"—the garment that caused the recent prom-appropriation controversy—"it was appropriated by the fashion houses of Shanghai from the Manchurian people in northern China."
When we put strong taboos on enjoying elements of other cultures or incorporating them into one's work, we don't wind up with some situation in which everyone is respectful and knowledgeable about the food, clothing, and other trappings of people slightly removed from their own experiences. "The opposite of cultural appropriation is not universal reverence but, rather, segregation, a deterioration of our ability and desire to communicate with each other, a crude and insular tribalism," Nazaryan concludes. "Outrage over Daum's dress is a gift to nativists and xenophobes who have always been suspicious of Americans with skin darker than theirs, with homelands outside Northern Europe, holidays other than Christmas, and foods other than hot dogs."

President Trump is expected to announce this morning whether the U.S. will stay in the Iran nuclear deal.
Trump is going to renegotiate them down to only half a pallet of cash.
Hello.
D-d-did I see right? Sullivan split Guentzel-Crosby up?
I'm sure John and Ken will be along in 3...2....
Yinzers will have to ride Fleury into glory this year.
The sacred Canadian is never at fault Rufus. You of all people should know that.
Crosby is like a god.
But seriously. Why break up a duo that was tearing it up?
Not that it would matter I think.
Caps wanted it bad.
The Caps were just better. They were quicker, more physical and more relentless. The Pens lost two games because they gave up easy breakaway goals to the Kuznetzov/Ovechkin duo. Gee, we should be careful with the puck and play a bit more conservative when those guys are out there? Nah, we are the Pens and don't have to worry about that. Didn't work out that way.
Washington - close your eyes Fist - was by far the better team.
Now watch them lose to Tampa Bay because they are the Caps and that is what they do.
That would be embarrassing, losing to a hockey team from Florida. They don't even have ice down there.
There is a good chance the finals will be Las Vegas versus Tampa Bay. That is just wrong.
Caps were in better shape, more gas in the tank, and better at headshots.
The Pens were tired. They've been playing nonstop NHL hockey longer than any other team. It was enough.
Sure Fist, Pittsburgh fans have been so understanding of other teams' excuses over the past two years. They have ran their mouths continuously over the last few years, especially to Washington fans. And now they lose and it is all "we were just tired". Whatever. They got their asses kicked and Ovechkin stole Crosby's lunch money to create a breakaway that clinched the series. Screw them. They should make Pittsburgh play the Caps three or four more games because this ass kicking still wasn't quite enough.
I hope that entire city is in mourning this morning.
Meh.
I think you misspelled morning or mourning. Not sure which you were going for.
Getting all worked up about millionaires playing kid's games.
It is fun to get worked up about things that mean so little.
Get a load of Debbie Downer over here.
But point well taken. I don't watch or follow it like I used to.
There seems to be lacking a certain kind of passion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzzMHAiuDtc&t=310s
I am pretty sure Canada would take your passport if you didn't get worked up about hockey.
Rufus is a questionable Canadian, to be sure. No passion for hockey, no passion for poutine, and it's been ages since he has apologized.
You got two of three right.
He still drinks his milk out of a bag.
The First Lady has found herself in another plagiarism scandal.
Please let her have said she's finally proud of her country, wherever that is.
Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore.
Some Yugos are still around, though. They make excellent flower beds.
New York Attorney General claims consensual BDSM sex but resigns anyway amid allegations from four women.
He just realized that resigning in public disgrace gets him harder than any sling and bullwhip scenario.
The best part of Schneiderman getting #metoo'd was Samantha Bee coming out with an entire factory farm's worth of egg all over her face, six months after characterizing him as a comic book character.
The amount of satisfaction Ronan Farrow must be getting out of taking down some prominent public figures in his own social circles can't be measured with scientific instruments.
While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office's work at this critical time," Schneiderman said yesterday. "I therefore resign my office, effective at the close of business on May 8, 2018."
Who resigns effective at the end of the day? Must have needed time to delete some files.
The First Lady has found herself in another plagiarism scandal.
The press will make her play their games if its the last thing they do.
Don't worry, eventually she will start plagiarizing from herself.
I'm still waiting for anyone to show me any actual plagiarism. Instead of, you know, an agency updating a pamphlet.
"The boost in tax revenues is marginally credit positive in states with a nascent legalized weed industry," according to a new report.
Finally, they'll be able to afford to crack down on these scofflaws.
At least Melania isn't telling Olympic gymnasts they are sinners for liking McDonald's. Because eating fast food when you work out 8 hours a day, seven days a week at age 20 is such a terrible thing.
For instance, in 2017, the NSA collected data on three times the number of calls than it did the previous year...
And all of that data from calls between Trump and Russians or strippers' attorneys.
And then Melania wrote it all down in her book.
And then Melania wrote it all down in her book.
Don't steal ENB's fever dream. You have to invent your own totally not insane batshit crazy conspiracy theory for the glory of Bill Kristol and the FBI
Which tells you all you need to know on how seriously the Left takes this nonsense. It is a cudgel to beat their opponents with, not something they really buy into.
Trump apparently tweeted a while back that Schneiderman was worse than Weiner or Spitzer. It was of course ignored because Trump doesn't know anything.
And, of course, if he did know something about this then he's an even worse person for not telling everyone what a scumbag Schneiderman was
Trump knew about it because Trump was running in the same circle with Schneiderman and his good buddies like the Clintons but he knew if he said anything there'd be blowback in the form of Trump's dirty laundry being aired. Now that it turns out nobody gives a shit how many dead underage hookers Trump's left in his wake, he's free to point out the motes in the eyes of others.
The Tweet was from 2013.
Even your most virulent man-haters like Elizabeth Nolan Brown are willing to be raped by the likes of Bill Clinton.
Christ, you're an asshole
You're your own kind of stupid, Simple Mikey.
I would think Mikey is just one of those reanimated pig brains, but that would be a grave insult to porcine souls everywhere.
What's it say about you that you're willing to settle for being raped by Dave Weigel?
It wouldn't be rape, though. It would be more like that scene from The Fountaimhead.
The actual quote from the article- "After the former girlfriend ended the relationship, she told several friends about the abuse. A number of them advised her to keep the story to herself, arguing that Schneiderman was too valuable a politician for the Democrats to lose. She described this response as heartbreaking."- Which just goes to show that all's fair in love and politics.
A number of them advised her to keep the story to herself, arguing that Schneiderman was too valuable a politician for the Democrats to lose
Pretty much says it all, doesn't it?
Out the motherfucker who told you to keep it quiet.
Now, he's "the candidate with momentum in Tuesday's GOP primary to take on Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.)," according to The Hill.
The media diving, in slow motion, diving in front of man intent on shooting himself in the foot.
Iowa's new law banning abortion after six weeks is "scheduled to go into effect on July 1," but "will likely not see the light of day."
Unfortunate phrasing.
Come on, we all know this bill isn't viable. We might as well just kill it now and put it out of our misery.
Reminds me of the most horrible song ever written.
Schneiderman called me his 'brown slave,' would slap me until I called him 'Master.'
Come on, he was just getting in touch with his Democratic Party heritage.
This is all a Russian conspiracy. Schneiderman is innocent.
Climate Change made me do it!
Are you seriously questioning that this was not a political hit job orchestrated by Putin to save Trump?
I mean yes, of course it's that. But it's also a result of climate change, school vouchers, the NRA, Uber, and Air BnB. Prove that it's not.
No. I think we're in agreement. But, you realize, of course, that the Russians are behind school vouchers, the NRA, Uber, and Air BnB.
But, climate change is a Chinese conspiracy
Ooh, that combo gives me an idea for a new app. Can you guess what it is, what it is?
You're a Russian bot
Next, Bob Mueller will get a ball gag and velvet-lined handcuffs in the mail, along with a note saying "Remember Schneider-man? Same thing happen to you if you not leave my comrade Donald alone."
Only a Russian agent would know Putin's next move. You are a mole!
You think Just Saying is kidding but he is not. Louise Mench is claiming that the Russians are behind this and the entire Me Too movement this morning on Twitter. Some jackwagon named Eric Garland who is apparently an intelligence wonk in Washington of some repute was claiming last week that Kayne West is acting as a Russian agent with his support of Trump.
You can't make up this kind of crazy. Trump has driven some of these people stark raving mad.
You would have imagined that mainstreaming a batshit crazy conspiracy theory with no basis in reality would bring out the crazies? Well, other than every sane person not suffering from a severe bout of TDS
That's not a drive, it's a (very) short putt.
lol.
Schneider-man....Schneider-man
Does whatever a Schneider-man can.
Spins a lie, any size,
Catches lefties just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Schneider-man .
Well, at least they pay good lip service to the issue of housing problems in CA.
To be sure, the solar panels will pay for themselves about a week before they need to be replaced.
I don't buy that $10,500 number for a second. Just the transfer switches and meters and electrical work required for a solar installation cost a big chunk of that. And they are talking about netting $16k over 30 years? Who invests 10 grand to make back 16 over 30 freaking years?
Anyway, a quick google turns up this form gosolarcalifornia.ca.gov
So where in the world they came up with a number that's less than a third of what they themselves call "average" is anyone's guess.
"Iowa's new law banning abortion after six weeks is "scheduled to go into effect on July 1," but "will likely not see the light of day."
Well, at least the State still has the authority to kill a child 24 months post-birth
Wah wah, why aren't I allowed to torture my children for as long as I damn well please?
No, clearly the State should decide what's best for your child. Even when they don't know what's wrong with them. And it's totally "woke" and libertarian-y for them to then restrict your ability to leave the country for fear that you will get a second opinion. Open borders are important, but the state restricting your travel outside their country is totally not the mark of totalitarianism or anything.
Turn over all your decision making to the state. It's for the best.
California's energy regulators are supposed to announce a solar-panel mandate today that could raise home prices by $10,500.
Increasing the housing crisis in the state is worth it to blind some birds.
"The move's supporters insist the solar homes would save their owners money by slashing monthly utility bills. That savings could be worth $16,251 over the 30-year life of the house, according to the commission."
See it's a free-market decision, mandated by the government!
And when you fall off your roof trying to clean the damn things, the guv'ment will compensate you since they mandated it, right? Not refuse your unemployment claim so the bank can repossess your eco-friendly home?
Or maybe you finally have sonething for the 'Will work for food' guy who is trying to clean your windshield? Heck, he has his own Windex, and if he falls off your roof, unlike you, your homeowners policy will cover him.
Trump warned about that scumbag way back in 2013 in a tweet saying he was worse than Weiner or Spitzer.
Democrats. All projection with them, eh?
I didn't see John's comment up top. Sheesh, you people are fast. It's almost as if you're all unemployed or something.
So how about them Pens? I thought the Caps might win but I honestly didn't think they would show themselves to be that much better than the Pens. Pittsburgh just looked slow and careless.
And funny how no one is mentioning this morning how it was the Sacred Canadian who turned the puck over that lead to the breakaway easy goal that ended the season. The goalie can meltdown and the media will hold it up as proof that Ovechkin is a loser. The Sacred Canadian commits a sloppy turnover that leads to an easy goal that ends the season and it is just one of those things, bad luck I guess. Crosby was raised by elves in a tree in the Maritimes and thus can never be held responsible for anything.
To Ovi no less. Earlier in the series Ovi turned over the puck to Crosby that led to a winner.
No one is making much of it because his gigantic body of work his generally positive. It happens.
Kessel committed a more serious turnover in the other game because he was being selfish. Crosby's was just a mistake.
But you're right. They were listless. Malkin simply was a non-factor.
Holtby was a rock.
I do not think it would be fair to blame Crosby for the series loss. But, I guarantee you if the roles were reversed the media would absolutely blame Ovechkin. And that pisses me off. It is not Crosby's fault but the media will make you hate the guy if you are not a Pittsburgh fan.
Crosby showed up. 21 points in the playoffs. The guy is amazing.
Again, you're right. There's this 'North American bias' still at play and it annoys me. Ovechkin gets unfairly criticized.
And notice that 'blue ribbon panel' that put that ridiculous 'official' NHL top 100 players of all time list.
NO MALKIN.
What planet are these people on to exclude Malkin? It's unacceptable and makes a mockery of the list.
Shanahan over Malkin. Get outta here with that.
Fuck Malkin. She wrote a whole book justifying the Japanese concentration camps during WW2.
I think a certain amount of credit goes to the coach.
When I watch Boudreau coaching other teams, they seem to have similar psychological breakdowns.
The team seems to have taken on Trotz's character.
Most teams don't win the Cup with a death or glory mentality. From the guys on the first line taking it all upon themselves, to the guys on the third line thinking they have to hit the game winner or its death--you don't want that.
It's not even taking it one game at a time. It's taking it one shift at a time.
If the Caps played the Pens this year like they have in past seasons, they would have psychologically imploded several times during the series. That mental toughness isn't coming from the bottom up. Trotz deserves credit for that. His other teams have played that way, too.
Previous teams would have never beat Columbus. John Tortrella owned Boudreau.
Give it up to the Minnesota Wild for getting rid of one over the other.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb talks about the chances of the agency approving marijuana joints for commercial sale.
Gottlieb? More like got reef.

CBO says the federal government in April ran the largest surplus in US history.
CBO analysts were surprised by the surplus, which was some $40 billion more than they'd guessed at less than a month ago.
It is almost as if cutting taxes can produce more revenue because it boosts the economy and changes behavior. That just can't be true. It must be the Russians.
Nah uh, people are stagnant actors. Giving people more of their own money is bad for the economy, because reasons
The CBO was wrong in their projections?
Somebody break out the smelling salts for Suderman.
CBO says the federal government in April ran the largest surplus in US history
This isn't really worth spiking the football over. April is tax month and the government always runs a surplus during that time.
No. What is worth spiking the football over is that revenues were $40 billion over CBO estimates. So, the deficit isn't the result of cutting taxes. It is the result of spending.
Can't we just take the air out of the football and stop celebrating? They took 40 billion more of our money than expected.
New York Attorney General claims consensual BDSM sex but resigns anyway amid allegations from four women.
Heh. Another government official. It's funny how the institutions most beloved by the "progressives" are the ones where these things are happening. It's almost as if power corrupts, or something.
It makes one wonder if perhaps the movement that claims the personal is the political has attracted a bunch of perverts and sociopaths who joined as a way to rationalize their evil. That couldn't be true could it?
Sandwich and John each have half of it. Power both corrupts and is irresistibly attractive to the already corrupt.
The insidious thing about leftism is that it is sold as the only way to be moral. Politics is everything and your politics determine your morality. It should surprise no one that such an ideology attracts criminals and others looking to use it as a rationalization for their evil.
Schneider-man....Schneider-man
Does whatever a Schneider-man can.
Spins a lie, any size,
Catches lefties just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Schneider-man .
I am honestly confused by this Schneiderman story. This is a man whose feminist credentials are so strong that he got a job in an abortion clinic after high school. And it turns out that, in his private life, he actually doesn't respect women? It's so out of character for straight male feminist allies to behave this way.
What kind of a weirdo gets a job in an abortion clinic straight after high school?
It's a great way to pick up chicks.
You know those ladies put out, too.
"Abortion Clinic" was my nickname in high school.
I keep waiting for a Justin Trudeau scandal - however unlikely.
Something's off with that boy.
Speaking of cultural appropriation.....
http://www.theweek.co.uk/91880/justin.....ish-fiasco
"Appropriation is actually the food on which culture thrives."
It wasn't that long ago that this was the official 'liberal' position. Cultural Exchange. However, it turned out that path leads to peace, happiness and freedom. "We'll have none of that in our utopian commune."
How fast before the left led by scorned faux-self righteous dinks like Bee turn their ire on the 'brown slaved' woman?
The argument that Google isn't a monopoly would be much more persuasive if Google weren't colluding with other companies to exclude them from the marketplace (and bragging about it). Watching Facebook, Twitter, PayPal, et. al. openly collude with Google against guns is one example.
Is this one next?
"Today, we're announcing a new policy to prohibit ads that promote bail bond services from our platforms. Studies show that for-profit bail bond providers make most of their revenue from communities of color and low income neighborhoods when they are at their most vulnerable"
----Google Official Blog
May 7, 2018
http://adwords.googleblog.com/.....vices.html
Being a libertarian is often about defending people you don't like because of the principles involved, and to whatever extent I stick up for Google in the future, it'll be in that spirit.
They should change their unofficial motto from "Don't be evil" to "We're a necessary evil".
So you're saying they have to bake your gay bail bond ad?
If you read what I already wrote and came away with that idea, why would I add more?
So you can misread that, too?
Google buys and absorbs any new threat to it. I don't see how the market is supposed to solve for such a monopoly.
I'm going to wait and see.
Small company owners just tell Google to fuck off?
Doing so would be against their own economic interests. If someone offers you much more than your company is worth, you are going to sell. If your plan is to hope that people act against their own interests, you don't have a plan, just wishful thinking.
Or you know that you can make more money down the road after Google implodes and a void is left to fill.
As you say though, a quick buck might be in your own financial interest and it might not be.
I don't buy cheap can openers anymore after buying a more expensive can opener that never rusts, never breaks, and works easily every time.
Your company is worth more to Google than it is likely worth to you. Sure, maybe some crazy dreamer hangs in there and maybe it all works out. But that is again depending upon someone making what at the time is an irrational decision.
Some of these successful companies didn't sell to bigger companies and they went on to be giants. Small minority though.
Money is not everything. So not accepting money does not per se make it that decision irrational.
The market always solves for monopolies.
They get too big and self-important and start to attract bureaucratic nest builders instead of innovators.
And then someone sneaks up and steals their lunch.
So what Google is saying is that they do not want brown people to be able to get out on bail.
That is precisely what they are saying.
The connection isn't even complex, like it is in the case of other low income financial services like payday loans, title loans, pawn services, etc. This is a direct line. If you can't post bail, you stay in jail. And if you don't have ten grand, you can't post a ten grand bail without a bondsman.
This is truly hideous.
Everyone who says Google isn't a monopoly should try to go a week without using any of Google's products.
I dare you.
I should add, they still pass that test--for the time being. I can go through life without using any of their products, but it's getting harder all the time--and that's assuming you're not counting sending an email to a gmail user or taking a call from or making a call to someone with an Android phone.
Given Alphabet's ownership of Waymo, we may all live to see a day when avoiding Google's products becomes practically impossible if you want to communicate or use transportation.
Because Google isn't a monopoly yet, doesn't mean there's no reason for concern. And, yeah, their willingness to brag about excluding people from the marketplace becomes a greater concern--as their market grows to become practically unavoidable.
It can't be a secret by now that CA is in a self-proclaimed 'housing crisis'. Homes are simply too expensive, and the state government is doing every thing it can to reduce the cost of housing:
"Proposed California solar mandate could add $10,500 to cost of a house"

"The proposal, years in the making, would provide an immense boost to the state's solar industry, which lost jobs in 2017 after years of rapid growth."

Or not.
Never let a housing crisis go to waste.
See, this mandate is a jobs program!
Oh, in case anybody missed the biggest news of the day, the Capitals are headed to the semifinal.
Thank goodness we don't have to beat both Winnipeg and the Golden Knights--just Tampa Bay and either the Jets or Las Vegas.
I like our chances. The Pens are, obviously, not a bad team, and we should have Backstrom back, not to mention Tom Wilson, when the series against Tampa Bay starts.
Let's go, Caps!
California's energy regulators are supposed to announce a solar-panel mandate today
Freedom means being mandated at gunpoint to use expensive, inefficient, unreliable energy.
States can secede, but I doubt CA will. Is it possible to eject a State from the Union?
The proposal, years in the making, would provide an immense boost to the state's solar industry, which lost jobs in 2017 after years of rapid growth.
The whole thing is nothing but a payoff to the tech cronies who should be losing their ass in the solar energy business. The Progressives just care about the little guy so much they are screwing everyone who wants to buy a house to ensure a few tech billionaires don't become ordinary millionaires.
"The whole thing is nothing but a payoff to the tech cronies who should be losing their ass in the solar energy business."

It is in the same bucket as the ethanol mandates - the only differences being that this is a state level mandate and it is of a much, much larger order of magnitude to the individual consumer.

Newly-unredacted portions of the House Intelligence Committee Republican Trump-Russia report say top Justice Department and FBI officials ? Sally Yates, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and Mary McCord ? gave "conflicting testimony" about the "primary purpose" for sending the FBI to question Flynn.
It's not perjury when the FBI does it. Then there is this
Capitol Hill's secrecy is nothing compared to that of special counsel Robert Mueller, whose lawyers recently declined to tell a federal judge in open court what their investigation is about. It happened in a hearing in the case of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who has been charged with financial crimes unrelated to the Trump campaign and the 2016 election.
In court, Mueller prosecutor Michael Dreeben essentially admitted that the May 17, 2017, order appointing Mueller and stating the subject of the investigation was just for show. Mueller's real assignment ? the factual statement defining the limits of his investigation ? remains a secret. "The regulations nowhere say that a specific factual statement needs to be provided publicly," Dreeben said.
DOJ refuses to tell the judiciary or the public what the purpose of an investigation of a sitting President actually is. No civil liberties implications there.
Russian talking point. Figures
Russians also believe 2+2=4 ? quick, get Russian influence out of arithmetic!
Sharing an opinion, belief, or fact held by evil persons makes neither you nor the opinion, belief, or fact evil.
Once upon a time, people understood that ad hominem is a fallacy.
The Mueller teams keeps losing--in all its important cases.
They have until Wednesday to produce evidence they've resisted giving to the defense in the Russian troll case, or that judge may be compelled to dismiss charges. The judge certainly can't proceed with a trial in a case where the Mueller team refuses to share evidence--and he can't just delay the trial if the Mueller team refuses to ever share it either.
In case after case, the Mueller team is putting itself in a situation where they won't show the evidence (for whatever reason) but can't proceed without showing it. Whatever their reason for refusing to show anybody the evidence--and they've refused to show evidence to everybody from congress to presiding judges--that evidence must be self-incriminating to some extent. Otherwise, why would they risk their whole case on refusing to show it?
The Meuller team are a bunch of crooked prosecutors who have made their careers bullying and forcing people into guilty pleas or withholding evidence to ensure any trial they did was utterly unfair to the defense. They have never been involved in a case where the other side could actually fight back and there was any meaningful public scrutiny of their case. So, they really don't know how to try a fair case. And in a case this big with this much media coverage, they can't resort to their usual tactics. And they are getting their asses handed to them as a result.
I'm pretty sure it's exactly what it looks like, and exactly what everyone has been saying it is since literally day one of the whole thing: Get dirt on Trump, and impeach his ass. It's really and honestly not any more complicated than that, but the damage to civil liberties could end up permanent.
It seems Ken Starr was just an early adopter that was half-assing the whole "Assassin of Kings" role.
I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross.
So there are lines you would cross?
I have never beaten my wife with a stick more than 2" in diameter. I have never killed an 8-year old left-handed boy. I have never robbed a liquor store owned by a Lithuanian. I have never stolen over $200 from the church collection plate. These are lines I would not cross.
Any stick over 2 inches in diameter is just too difficult to keep a good grip on.
This explains why you voted for your tiny handed brother.
Us short dick guys gotta stick together. You know what I'm talking about.
Sarwark has a teeny weeny. It all makes sense
It's average length. It just looks weird because it's wider than it is long.
Girth is more important, I think
The double s-curve throws off measurements too, huh.
The First Lady has found herself in another plagiarism scandal.
Meh. You cannot plagiarize banal platitudes.
Her speech literally began: "I had a dream four score and seven years ago that we can end cyber bullying, because eich ben ein berliner"
I had a dream four score and seven years ago that we can end cyber bullying, because eich ben ein berliner if we just say no".
Yes we can!
Yes we can!
"The First Lady has found herself in another plagiarism scandal."
I haven't clicked that yet, because I'm thinking of another scandal - the use of the term "First Lady."
I can't find the title "First Lady" in my copy of the Constitution. Perhaps because in America, official titles are reserved for people who have been elected to official positions, or have been appointed to official positions by people accountable to the electorate.
Giving someone a title simply because they're married to a public official simply reeks of the kind of aristocracy we supposedly overthrew.
America wants royalty. This was most clear with the Kennedy's but still lingers today.
IT WAS HER TURN !
Humans seem to naturally desire either feudalism or individualism. It's a fundamental split with a modest majority favoring the former.
Progressivism is all about it. Progressives want royalty and feudalism.
Conservatives... just settle for it.
Modest majority? More like 97 percent.
President Trump is expected to announce this morning whether the U.S. will stay in the Iran nuclear deal.
Either way, let's send Iran a couple more pallets of cash in various currencies. That is sure to help our position somehow.
Yes we can!
So, two calls in a full year for everyone old enough to use a phone? Christ, I bet there are more calls than that in a single day, maybe even hour. So I Ducked Ducked Goed, and this says 6 (or 2.4) billion cell phone calls a day. Throw in land lines, 5-10 billion? So that 530 million is only a few hours' worth. Something tells me the NSA is either losuy at its job, or telling a fib.
Typical lazy government workers. If we outsource the spying to China , we could really boost our productivity.
Two spaces after a period at the end of a sentence makes reading easier and clearer--and that's regardless of whether we're talking about print.
http://arstechnica.com/science.....udy-finds/
The science is settled.
All you one period people are a bunch of hacks.
Practice what you preach..
It was supposed to read "[one space people] are a bunch of hacks".
The science is settled.
See, I knew that, but I couldn't look at the page source and see if you had used two spaces after periods because you didn't follow your usual wordy example and string multiple sentences into one paragraph. Thus I had to settle for the obvious wrong word mistake and hope the weak pun would be good enough.
Don't want to disappoint you, but I agree.
I've always put two spaces. When not phone typing. Not worth extra effort making my post easier to read.
Using two spaces is obviously better. But what about the comma before the "and" in a list of three things?
I have heard that employers are using the "two space" paradigm as an end run around age discrimination limitations on what they can ask.
If you put two spaces, you are old.
The science is settled.
Iowa's new law banning abortion after six weeks is "scheduled to go into effect on July 1," but "will likely not see the light of day."
Neither will the fetuses.
In one especially damning bit for New York Democrats, one of the accusers claims friends in high places told her that Schneiderman?a vocal critic of the Trump administration and supposed advocate against sexual violence?was too valuable to liberal politics to out as an abuser.
What's the big deal? This is in New York - won't they just go out and elect another liberal AG? Seems like they're a dime a dozen.
Spitzer, Weinstein, Schneiderman...what is up with these Jewish boys? Maybe if they had not been circumcised, they would be too busy jerking off to bother harassing the womynz
Their God's chosen people?
Trump, still president.
Did you expect him to be removed from office today?
Brace yourself. It's going to stay that way for some time.
Poor Tony. Then in 2020, Trump will be re-elected to serve another 4 years as president.
Connecticut is the latest state but these states are only at 172 electoral votes and need 270 electoral votes to enact this compact to give EC votes to national popular vote winner Other states include MD, NJ, IL, HI, WA, MA, DC, VT, CA, RI, and NY.
The Week article about 10 states changing their electoral college rules
Minor problem is the US Constitution, Article I, Section 10:
No state shall, without the consent of Congress, lay any duty of tonnage, keep troops, or ships of war in time of peace, enter into any agreement or compact with another state, or with a foreign power, or engage in war, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent danger as will not admit of delay.
What's weird is that these are all the most reliably blue states out there. What do they expect? Trying to preempt their own turns? But if that's the case, the election will be a landslide either way.
Most likely scenario is it backfires spectacularly.
Regardless of whether it goes through or not, the only thing it really shows is that Democrats will be hell-bent on trying to run up the score in their economic caste havens while ignoring rural districts. They're basically admitting that their primary constituencies are ghettos, academics, and champagne socialists.
Give Obama credit for at least making an effort to campaign in places he figured that he'd lose regardless, because he knew that he'd be more likely to get support for his policies if he could meet with people outside the urban bubble.
Unless I'm mistaken...can't states set their own rules for how their electoral college selection works? So if they wanted to go to straight up popular vote and exclude any electoral votes for whomever came in second by .01%, I suppose they could do so but I hope they've thought long and hard about the obvious and clear dangers of direct democracy and how that's definitely, 100% going to come back around and bite them in the dick.
Not to mention that, obviously, red states will do the same rendering the whole exercise moot.
In one especially damning bit for New York Democrats, one of the accusers claims friends in high places told her that Schneiderman?a vocal critic of the Trump administration and supposed advocate against sexual violence?was too valuable to liberal politics to out as an abuser.
They say this every time, and for what it's worth I can understand their point of view that in the search for ultimate power you're going to say one thing and do another but, also understandably, they're full of shit on every issue since 'more power' is their only guiding principle. Republicans are, unfortunately, not terribly different.
That said, I'm not sure why this guy resigned unless this is just the tip of the iceberg. Oh, that's right I forgot. There's photo evidence, isn't there. There wasn't in Moore's case, but that way lies madness. It's hard to ignore that sexual abuse appears to be a prerequisite for office in a whole lot of places.
It's hard to ignore that sexual abuse appears to be a prerequisite for office in a whole lot of places.
Hell, in Hollywood it's practically a mandate. There was a revealing comment in a THR story on Ronan Farrow and how he got involved in chasing the Weinstein story when he was at NBC. Initially, he pitched it as a multi-part expose on Hollywood's seedy underside--pedophilia, racism, and sexual abuse. He got the go-ahead from his bosses on the last one; tellingly, the first two were rejected outright. Because we can't have a serious investigation into Hollywood's decades-long, and running, history of child abuse and exploitation, now, can we?
I've mentioned before how incestuous the mass media, celebrity, and political worlds have become--these people all know each other, marry each other, raise each others' kids and give them jobs after college, and attend all the same social events. Apologetics aside, it's impossible for them to not be aware of the predators in their midst, but every single one of these fuckers willingly, if not always happily, sold their soul to chase the dollars and fame to fill their otherwise empty, meaningless lives. And then they have the gall to hypocritically look down their nose at red-state hillbillies and presume to lecture everyone else on how to properly conduct themselves. They are the 21st-century embodiment of pre-WW1 aristocrats.
They are the 21st-century embodiment of pre-WW1 aristocrats.
Power attracts power, and I believe that's been the case since at least the Book of Genesis was still spoken-word.
