Brickbat: Swaying to the Music

City officials in Encinitas, California, have fined Peabody's Bar and Grill $3,000 after catching people dancing to live music performed there. Owner Brie Cardosa says she was surprised. She says she doesn't run a dance club but sometimes the natural reaction to music is to move around.

"The [Alcohol Beverage Control] interprets their rules that if you sway to the music, you could be in violation of the rules. That is not what city council is interested in having happen."
It beggars description why the city council made the rule in the first place if they thought it would only be used sensibly, narrowly, and in a manner which didn't inconvenience constituents. Have they ever met code enforcement? Did they think they lived in Rights Of Man Land?
Let's examine the benefits of something we want to do without considering the down side - and occasionally without recognizing that there might BE a down side. Especially when the benefits come to us, and the down sides on someone about whom we currently don't care. This is how we make the world an interesting place to live.
Charles, California must make your job infinitely easier.
"Have they ever met code enforcement? Did they think they lived in Rights Of Man Land?"
Your error is assuming that they are capable of thinking.

GOOD. FINE THE SHIT OUT OF THEM! They knew it was against the law, and if they didn't , THEY SHOULD HAVE! There should be HUGE SIGNS with BIG BLOCK LETTERS that say "NO DANCING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!"
My GOD - can you IMAGINE what would happen if people were just allowed to dance UNREGULATED and WILLY-NILLY to any kind of MUSIC?!?!?!
WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDRENMYGODTHECHILDREN.........?!?!?
They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into - - I say let them crash!
On the Merseyside Police Department's Facebook page:
"We've issued the following statement following reports of social media posts being made in relation to Alder Hey Hospital and the ongoing situation with Alfie Evans:
Chief Inspector Chris Gibson said: "Merseyside Police has been made aware of a number of social media posts which have been made with reference to Alder Hey Hospital and the ongoing situation involving Alfie Evans.
"I would like to make people aware that these posts are being monitored and remind social media users that any offences including malicious communications and threatening behaviour will be investigated and where necessary will be acted upon."
Chief Inspector Chris Gibson, if you can NOT develop a conscience and stop being an utterly parasitical pimple on the planet Earth, please do us all a favor and go and take a flying leap back to your home, The Planet of the Parasites, and leave the Earthlings alone!
Look at you and your free speech privilege.
Congratulations, Chief Inspector Chris Gibson, you've just sealed your victory in this year's Biggest Douche in the Universe contest.
Christ, what an asshole. Fucker deserves a good wood-chippering.
What's more enjoyable than standing still and being quiet? The great thing about bureaucracy is that it seems to have a life of its own. Everyone is powerless to stop code enforcement.
He has a point. In the current environment one cannot be held responsible for stubbing one's own toe during an act of unauthorized leg movement.
"In California"
...among lefties
Nanny-State in full effect folks.
Owner Brie Cardosa says she was surprised.
She didn't do any research before she moved to California and opened a bar yesterday afternoon?
She missed that many Californians are moving out of that state not in.
This brickbat makes me wanna cut loose...Footloose!
Quick, someone call Kevin Bacon.
If I learned anything from 1980s teen movies, it's that only uptight rural Baptists wanted to stop people from having fun, not cool hip Californians.
First Kayne going MAGA, and now this. My political world has been turned upside down.
What's next, Hillary giving glowing reviews of Atlas Shrugged on The View?
"I may not agree with Ayn Rand politically, but you have to respect how she, as a strong empowered woman, was able to make the people around her worship her and do her will, all while being a huge asshole."
I would presume that dance halls have their own regulatory regime (including higher fees to the govt.).
So getting a permit as a restaurant, not paying for a dance hall permit and going through all the regulatory hurdles associated with such a permit, then allowing dancing, is like stealing from the government.
Am I right? Do I win a prize?
*not* going through all the regulatory hurdles.
Plus there's a slippery slope...if regulators don't keep an eye out, soon there will be all-night rave clubs in the middle of residential neighborhoods playing their music at top volume while patrons shoot up in the parking lot. /sarc, I think.
