Brickbat: Say What?

Malaysian officials have proposed a law that would ban fake news and impose prison sentences of up to 10 years and fines of up to $128,000 on those who violate the law. Critics say the law is aimed at stifling dissent.

"Critics say the law is aimed at stifling dissent."
Yeah, dissent from the truth. Sheesh.
"Hate speech" is much simpler to enforce.
Government Almighty loves you!
If you disagree, that is "fake news", AND hate speech!!!!

Uh.. don't you have to actually have to have some dissent before you can stifle it? I thought they beat the dissent out of the Malaysian population a couple of generations back.
New crops of children. See, each new group of children comes up under oppressive rule, and they either grow up under that rule or dedicate their pathetic lives to rebellion. Usually both. Really, killing them is a kindness. We can retract that kindness if you wish, but then who's really on the side of evil here?
CNN loses even more market share.
Fox and Breitbart are worse.
Meh CNN has plummeted to sub-Fox News level ever since Trump became president. Breitbart I put at the same level as HuffPo. The problem is that I don't know any right-wing person who isn't aware of Fox News and Breitbart's bias, whereas I know many people who think HuffPo and Salon are unpartisan bastions of journalistic integrity.
And sadly, those who consider HuffPo and Salon fair still get to vote.
East Asia has always been at war with us.
Right. Come at me, bruh.
Prime Minister of Malaysia bad. Martial arts good. Kill the Malaysian Prime Minister!
Male models have always been at war with East Asia.
American politicians and authoritarians of all stripes are green with envy.
Not for long. Substitute "Hate Speech" for "Fake News" and they're ready to roll.
The bill defines fake news as "any news, information, data and reports which is, or are, wholly or partly false whether in the form of features, visuals or audio recordings or in any other form capable of suggesting words or ideas."
So how could this possibly affect any professional journalist? Does this imply that there are items without multiple verifiable, named, reliable sources? Say it ain't so.
The adults of the world are total idiots, and the children know it.
Najib Razak is a kind and magnanimous leader.
