Gorilla
Fabrizio Troiani / Dreamstime.com

Yes, that totally makes sense, if you look at a gorilla statue and get reminded of black people, that is a sure sign that *the statue* is racist. Not you, goodness knows, you're just a courageous SJW on the lookout for racism.

    1. Roger the Shrubber   7 years ago

Accusations of racism don't have to make any logical sense, they just have to be leveled against the right people and those making the accusations are to be viewed as righteous.

Maybe if they did a Yeti statue? Sure, it's kind of like a gorilla, but it has *white* fur.

    1. SQRLSY One   7 years ago

I knew some people WAY back when... Yes, I'm kinda old... They always had to be "different", ya know... Plain old pet cats and dogs won't cut it! They have to have pet snakes or pet spiders and such, OR, they have to have HAIRLESS cats!!!

Anyway, these "had to be different" people went off and bred hairless Yetis as pets! So, white-furred Yetis? Not always! Some are hairless!

The hairless Yetis got lose, went feral. Now they have a new breed-name, "humans", and the darned things have over-run the whole friggin' planet!!!

      1. Longtobefree   7 years ago

        That explains so much!

  3. Tom Bombadil   7 years ago

I don't want to judge before all the facts are in, but these people complaining seem a bit
niggardly when it comes to statue tolerance.

    1. Jerryskids   7 years ago

      Naggers gonna nag.

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind this is racist? Walk me through it."

    1. Libertarian   7 years ago

That's a great template for political discussion.

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind the minimum wage doesn't cause unemployment? Walk me through it."

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind trillion dollar deficits are going to last forever? Walk me through it."

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind we're a peace-loving society while we're currently dropping bombs on numerous countries? Walk me through it."

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind punitive tariffs are good for us? Walk me through it."

      1. sarcasmic   7 years ago

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind the minimum wage doesn't cause unemployment? Walk me through it."

        Good intentions.

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind trillion dollar deficits are going to last forever? Walk me through it."

        Good intentions.

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind we're a peace-loving society while we're currently dropping bombs on numerous countries? Walk me through it."

        Good intentions.

"Now, explain to me again how in your mind punitive tariffs are good for us? Walk me through it."

        Good intentions.

Anyone who questions these good intentions is a bad person with bad intentions. Therefore there is no need for discussion, because there's no point in discussing anything with bad people with bad intentions.

        1. SQRLSY One   7 years ago

          Ya NAILED it again, Sarcasmic!

        2. Quo Usque Tandem   7 years ago

And as Samuel Johnson famously stated in regard to those, "the road to hell is [paved with] good intentions."

          1. sarcasmic   7 years ago

Obviously this Samuel Johnson fellow is/was a bad person with bad intentions, and therefore should be ignored.

            1. Quo Usque Tandem   7 years ago

Ditto for his dictionary as well.

              1. sarcasmic   7 years ago

Well duh on the dictionary. The meaning of words is determined by feelings, not some stupid book written by some old white guy.

  5. Inigo Montoya   7 years ago

Wasn't just a couple years ago that SJWs were complaining that defending Harambe (the zoo gorilla) was racist? These people really need to look in the mirror if they want to target the problem of racism.

    1. Robert   7 years ago

Racist? I thought it was just that Dicks Out For Harambe was sexist!

  6. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

    Everybody's gotta niggle.

  7. sarcasmic   7 years ago

Saw Black Panther this weekend with my kid. There's a whole tribe of black people who identify with gorillas, complete with a huge statue. The black people who wrote, produced, and acted in that movie need to be informed of their racial insensitivity.

    1. Quo Usque Tandem   7 years ago

That would necessitate a tipping point whereby all the social media and celebrity outrage in the world will not be enough to cast him or her from "polite society."

  8. John C. Randolph   7 years ago

Some local politician is going to make a name for himself by being the first one to answer "Oh, fuck off" to this kind of complaint.

  9. Longtobefree   7 years ago

"I can understand that this display could be construed as a racial point of contention by some. "

    I call bullshit.

There is absolutely no rational basis to consider one of nature's creatures racist.
Whoever filed the 'complaint' needs to be reviewed under the new 'keep our kids safe' 'reasonable gun control' guidelines and judged a danger to themselves and others.

  10. Rich   7 years ago

Not only is that statue potentially racially insensitive, it's potentially a terrorist weapon!

  11. Enjoy Every Sandwich   7 years ago

Does this mean that all the zoos have to get rid of their gorillas?

    1. Quo Usque Tandem   7 years ago

It'll get to that soon enough. Actually zoos are by their very nature evil and they should repatriate all of their inmates back to their natural environments will all deliberate speed.

      1. sarcasmic   7 years ago

I vacillate on that one. On the one hand keeping the animals in cages instead of the wild seems like a cruel prison. But on the other hand these animals don't have to search/hunt for food, get veterinary care, are often provided mates, are not hunted by predators (or people), and generally don't have to deal with the problems of the wild. Some of them seem to like their life, while others obviously hate it. I dunno. Take it on a case by case basis I suppose.

        1. Quo Usque Tandem   7 years ago

Sorry, left out the SARC disclaimer, sarcasmic.

      2. Eidde   7 years ago

I'm actually not sure what I think about zoos. Sometimes those animals look bored and sad. And we're not even eating them, we're just gawking at them. OTOH it's potentially a good way to keep endangered species from going extinct. Who knows? At least I don't.

        1. Robert   7 years ago

But they're gawking at us too, and I think they think we're hilarious!

    2. Vernon Depner   7 years ago

That's not good enough. Gorillas need to be exterminated so that their insulting caricature of Afrikan people is ended once and for all.
