      Hello.

"Melania Trump told tykes at the Children's National Hospital Thursday that if she could spend Christmas anywhere, it would be with her family "on a deserted island."

      Monster.

Seriously. I don't get it. Who gives a shit? I went to power read the article and kept looking for the Norm MacDonald hook and got pure shit. I'm not in a good mood today - my daughter ate the last Honeycrisp - so explain me the point of this useless article and why it was linked to?

The USA just had eight years of two pure ignoramuses in sitting in TWH so maybe people should just chill a little.

      1. Bee Tagger   7 years ago

So you want the news websites to just respond with 404s when there's no news???

        1. Rufus The Monocled   7 years ago

Well, it would be less insulting.

          /slap!

            *slap!*

      2. Rufus The Monocled   7 years ago

And just in case you all forgot what kind of egotistical know-nothing Obama was:

"...That's what happened in Germany in the 1930s, which despite the democracy of the Weimar Republic and centuries of high-level cultural and scientific achievements, Adolph Hitler rose to dominate, Obama noted. "Sixty million people died. . . .So, you've got to pay attention. And vote."

There he is. In all his magnificent mediocrity. Not only did he misinterpret the Weimar Republic (because he's a left-wing ignoramus) he seemed to make this calculus: Trump = 60 million dead.

He sounds EXACTLY like the remedial kid in class with too much self-esteem who thought he knew stuff but knew nothing yet still raised his arm to spew his nonsense in class.

        Obama. NOT GONE ENOUGH.

Good thing we don't have an egotistical know-nothing in the White House anymore!

(And before the inevitable replies, no this is not a defense of Obama)

          1. BYODB   7 years ago

A good point, I'd say, although I would say that it's at least debatable if Trump knows more than Obama since Trump has at least held down a job that didn't involve being in Government for the majority of his life.

It's just splitting hairs though, they both seem pretty pig ignorant.

        3. Tony   7 years ago

Trump's already gumming his way to WWIII with his deranged sop to millenarian wackos, or phase 37 of his "we hate Muslims" agenda. You'd think any sane person would long for the relatively stable presence of Obama.

          1. MarkLastname   7 years ago

WW3? With who? Russia? I thought he was too cozy with them?

And I'm sure the hundreds of thousands of people who died in the Syrian and Libyan civil Wars are very grateful to Barack for the global stability he gave them.

        4. BYODB   7 years ago

HA, that's some ignorant shit. The people of Germany literally elected Nazi's on purpose. What a buffoon.

      3. JuanQPublic   7 years ago

Agreed. Who cares what Melania Trump said about a personal preference. Was this supposed to indicate or imply something?

Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks has announced that he will leave Congress at the end of January 2018 following the revelation that he asked two former staffers to carry a baby for him and his wife.

It's not that he asked, it's the method he proposed.

      2. Kivlor   7 years ago

According to his resignation letter, he merely discussed the troubles he and his wife were having, and the method for surrogacy they were seeking to use. Apparently that made 2 women "uncomfortable" and so he is resigning. According to him, he didn't ask them to be surrogates. He also says that both children are biologically his and his wife's, and the plan for a 3rd is to be the same, so no issue with the "method" should really have come up.

I can't see why I'd resign if 2 women in my office said "Kivlor was talking about X and it made us uncomfortable" so I'm not sure I buy the story. It was going to be investigated by the Ethics committee and he pre-empted the investigation by resigning.

        1. Kivlor   7 years ago

          Full Text of Resignation here.

I've read 3 articles on this, and it seems there are no accusations other than "he talked about he and his wife's surrogacy issues and that made me uncomfortable" at this time.

        2. HazelMeade   7 years ago

Yeah, this seems like 'My boss discussed an awkward subject and that made me feel uncomfortable."
Fuck that. I mean, some subjects are inherently awkward. It's like if you got in a discussion about breastfeeding problems and a male co-worker said that made him feel "uncomfortable" would that be sexual harassment? WTF?

          1. lafe.long   7 years ago

It's like if you got in a discussion about breastfeeding problems and a male co-worker said that made him feel "uncomfortable" would that be sexual harassment?

As near as I can tell, absolutely yes.

          2. MarkLastname   7 years ago

It makes me wonder what people are going to be losing their jobs over 5 or 10 years from now. Saying chicken *breast*? Sneezing without covering your mouth?

          3. mad.casual   7 years ago

It's like if you got in a discussion about breastfeeding problems and a male co-worker said that made him feel "uncomfortable" would that be sexual harassment? WTF?

To be honest, I completely understand the desire to have this covered under sexual harassment/assault. Not because I'm averse to breasts or even discussions about female anatomy or whatever but because of the sheer volume of discussion and/or women's ability to lament about such things anywhere and everywhere without any sense of decorum. I can't imagine that there aren't some women out there who've sat through a lunch discussion about episiotomies or a loud discussion about unknown genital itches (about which they have no clue) who feel the same way. The fact that it doesn't even really apply to these discussions (AFAIK/CT) is just proof that equality is the guise or is only de jure.

However, I don't think the Congressman began every morning or even one day a week asking them to be surrogates.

        1. HazelMeade   7 years ago

You know, for a bunch of people who are constantly complain about bow BLM is quick to make every police shooting about race, you sure are quick to make this police shooting about race.

Cop shoots somebody... who isn't black ... so let's all talk about how racism isn't a thing and black people are just stupid and complaining about nothing and white people are totally not responsible for any of black people's problems, so there!!!

Maybe we could have a discussion that wen't more like cop shoots somebody, so let's talk about rules of engagement and criminal justice reform. Remember, just because someone else brings up race, doesn't mean you have to join that discussion and start getting your panties in a twist because someone impugned the reputation of the white race.

          1. Rhywun   7 years ago

Dude, even the Atlantic (link below) has noted the discrepancy. Are you about to lecture the liberal press for dragging race into it?

            1. HazelMeade   7 years ago

              From the Atlantic article:
In debates that ensue, critics of Black Lives Matter often try to argue that African Americans are not in fact disproportionately victimized by police killings. Here is a representative example.

Rather than engage that debate, though, I want to argue that it is largely irrelevant. Even if Black Lives Matter critics were right that police killings in America are not racially suspect, that would not be a sufficient argument against police reforms. It would still remain the case that American police officers kill many more people overall??and many more unarmed and mentally ill people in particular??than do police officers in other democratic countries.

That's exactly my point. Engaging in a debate about whether its unfair to white people or cops to blame the killings on racism, is a distraction from the more important work of police reform.

But instead of using BLM as a motivation to advance the cause of criminal justice reform, we see white people getting defensive because they for some reason feel that anyone mentioning that racism still exists is a personal attack on them ... or something. Nevermind the fellow travellers who actually oppose criminal justice reform and support the police. So we end up with a bunch of people basically changing the subject to how black people commit more crime and deserve greater police scrutiny and so the cops are totally blameless.

              1. HazelMeade   7 years ago

Italics got screwed up. The last two paragraphs are mine.

              2. Rhywun   7 years ago

But instead of using BLM as a motivation to advance the cause of criminal justice reform,

They weren't too supportive of "All Lives Matter" as I recall.

Look, I get it. But the point stands that the media are driving the narrative. You can shout until you're blue in the face and that won't change the fact that the media turn everything into a discussion of race.

              3. Procyon Rotor   7 years ago

BLM can't be used to advance the cause of criminal justice reform. When you misdiagnose a problem, any solution you propose will fail. Any reform movement that stands a chance of success has to proceed from an accurate understanding that race is not a relevant factor.

          2. Arizona_Guy   7 years ago

Maybe we could have a discussion that wen't more like cop shoots somebody, so let's talk about rules of engagement and criminal justice reform.

I think we all agree on that part.

'There are no winners in this case, but Mitch Brailsford had to make a split-second decision on a situation that he was trained to recognize as someone drawing a weapon and had one second to react,' Piccarreta said. "

Makes me think of when I worked in food service, the mantra was "When in doubt, throw it out" meaning that if you weren't sure if the food was good or not, toss it in the trash.

Seems that in policing the mantra is "When in doubt, kill" meaning that if they feel threatened in the slightest bit, use deadly force.

In both cases you do this knowing you won't be punished. Because in food service happy customers are the number one priority, and in law enforcement officer safety and total compliance are the number one priorities. In food service you want your customers to come back, even if that means throwing away good food once in a while. And in law enforcement you want the officers to come home safely, even if that means committing murder once in a while.

A plan to invite some holiday cheer around Grand Central Terminal is just as likely to invite creeps to plant kisses on total strangers, some New York women told The Post on Thursday.

...holiday decorations that encourage people to channel their inner Al Frakenns was blasted...

Upper East Side resident Jenny Perolta, 24, put it more bluntly. "Yeah it's the holidays, but get the hell away from me. No one said you can kiss me."

He had two kids through a surrogate already, since his wife can't carry naturally. Incredibly awkward and inappropriate workplace behavior? Sure. Sexual harrassment? Unless he threatened them or asked if he could impregnate them himself, absolutely not.

I kinda feel bad for the guy.

      1. Rhywun   7 years ago

Incredibly awkward and inappropriate workplace behavior?

Assuming the women complained about to HR, sure. I can imagine a scenario where they didn't but HR got wind of it anyway.

      2. mad.casual   7 years ago

Incredibly awkward and inappropriate workplace behavior? Sure.

I didn't necessarily assume it was done at the workplace and, maybe falsely, working under the presumption of innocence, did assume that the incidents went more along the lines of dinner after months if not years of employment, questions about family and parenting, then discussions about social awkwardness and mutual understanding ultimately followed by an eventual broaching of the question from both of them. Rather than shoving them into a broom closet and insisting that they carry his child right now.

I mean the latter scenario is totally feasible, it just seems a waste to use such a plausible cover on such a blatantly assault-y situation.

He's in a completely safe district (from what I can tell reading Wikipedia), and he came from the private sector. My guess is it just wasn't worth it to him anymore and decided to get out of the cesspool when he could.

    Ask Amy Crusty

I don't know what do to anymore. My wife of 16 years, whom I love dearly, is not the same person I married. She is prone to mood swings and goes off on our two children or myself at any moment over the smallest things.

Just when I think that things are improving, another episode occurs that sets our lives back.

She has admitted that she's in a rut. I suggested she go talk to a counselor ? but nothing. I suggested we go together to counseling ? again, nothing.

When I try to diligently bring up these concerns, it leads to an argument and no resolution. I'm afraid to ask one of her friends to address this with her for fear of the backlash that could come from it.

    What should I do?

    Helpless

Lefty writer shocked that companies might use tax savings in different ways:

"Home Depot shows how corporate America may have other plans for tax savings"
    [...]
"With unemployment low and demand for new homes high, a company like Home Depot could be spending its surplus billions on raises for workers or the rollout of new stores.
Instead, the world's largest home improvement chain this week announced that it is using $15 billion to buy back shares of its own stock, a move that will reward shareholders, including CEO Craig Menear and other top executives."

Darn management, helping the retirement funds of idiots like the writer! What are they thinking of?

    1. Rhywun   7 years ago

A lot of workers own stock in their companies. I guess this won't help them, just fatcats.

To be sure, several corporations, including AT&T and CVS Health, have publicly touted plans to funnel tax savings into spending on equipment or hiring.

To be sure. But let's pick on Home Depot some more!

    2. mad.casual   7 years ago

Calling Home Depot employees 'workers' isn't satire?

    3. buddhastalin   7 years ago

Over half of Americans own some amount of stock, and many hold shares in broad market funds. So anytime a big company's stock does well, it's probable that a large number of ordinary Americans have benefited in some way.

    Politicians are genuinely creepy people.

At least bizarre rich people don't pretend it's all about "serving everyone else."

Well there are no indications yet she's going to prison like most of the other people in his orbit, so she's got that going for her.

  29. HazelMeade   7 years ago

I'm unclear as to what is supposed to be so offensive about discussing surrogacy, assuming he wasn't pressuring the women into becoming surrogates. It shouldn't be any wierder than having a clinical discussion about abortion or any other medical topic involving female baby-making parts.

Asking them to become surrogates would be questionable, but it's kind of a bit like asking people to become organ donors for a friend or family member. It's a wierd, kind of uncomfortable topic, maybe inapproriate for a boss to discuss with subordinates, but NOTHING like pressuring them for sex.

    1. Tony   7 years ago

A gestating human inserted into one's body is arguably even more invasive than an unwanted penis.

      1. Crusty Juggler   7 years ago

        Is asking invasive?

I'd need to know the specifics, but I specifically don't want to know them.

I'd need to know the specifics, but I specifically don't want to know them.

Please note, this disclaimer should come standard on every single Tony comment.

            1. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

You don't need specifics when you can just assume that anyone who disagrees with you on any particular topic is just a cousin-fucking 'tard that's trying to destroy the world. Simple Tony is simple.

      2. HazelMeade   7 years ago

So is removal of an organ, but is there a general prohibition on asking people to become organ donors?

By analogy, I had a friend who got Hep C and died of liver failure. Shortly before his death, his closest friends were calling literally everyone they knew who had ever known him to find someone with type O blood to beg them to donate a part of their liver. Inappropriate?

      3. I am the 0.000000013%   7 years ago

Are you speaking from first hand knowledge about having an unwanted penis?

        1. Tony   7 years ago

There's a spectrum from wanted to unwanted.

      4. Rebel Scum   7 years ago

Point is that it was 1) a request and 2) a request for surrogacy. Surrogate pregnancies are not exactly uncommon and women are compensated for doing the job. But you're a disingenuous partisan hack so you can't comprehend this.

Father fatally shoots robber who pointed gun at family in Texas restaurant

San Antonio police Sgt. Roy Miller says the gunman threatened the father and restaurant employees and the employees ran out the back of the restaurant. The gunman demanded money and, when the father refused, the gunman turned his weapon toward the man's family. At that point, the father, who is licensed to carry a firearm, pulled out his own gun and fired.

Beverly Young Nelson admitted to ABC News that she added "notes" beneath what she says is Roy Moore's signature in her high school yearbook ? an inscription that she and famed attorney Gloria Allred presented as proof the then-30-something Moore sought an inappropriate relationship with her in the late 1970s. The "notes" below the signature appear to be the handwritten date and location. Nelson still insisted that Moore wrote most of the message.
Uh oh. Roy Moore's "14 year old" accuser admitted to lying.
