Harvey Weinstein, Tim Murphy, and Political Hypocrisy
Two disturbing sex scandals underscore why a historic number of Americans want a major third party.

Last week saw not one but two disturbing scandals involving powerful men and sex. Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, a major force in Democratic Party fundraising and activism, has been fired from the company he co-founded in the wake of reports that he serially harassed actresses for decades. Rep. Tim Murphy, a married, eight-term, pro-life Republican from Pennsylvania, resigned after it came out that he wanted his mistress to have an abortion during a pregnancy scare.
Each situation underscores the massive hypocrisy liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, traffic in. Each also helps explain why Americans are right to want the government out of our lives as much as possible. When the people who fund politicians and the politicians themselves are so full of awfulness, who in their right mind would give such figures the right to dictate any part of our lives? It's no wonder that support for a "major third party" is higher than ever, according to Gallup.
Weinstein has a long and phenomenal clip reel as a movie man before being fired yesterday from The Weinstein Company. Founded in 1979 with his brother Bob in Buffalo, New York, of all places, Miramax, his original movie company, set out to produce and distribute independent movies at the very moment that Hollywood had seemingly turned all of its attention to blockbusters and tent-pole pictures. Among its offerings were movies that helped create the indie boom of the 1980s and '90s: Sex, Lies, and Videotape; Pulp Fiction; and Clerks. As distributor of Errol Morris' The Thin Blue Line and 1990s's Paris Is Burning, Miramax helped revive theatrical-release documentaries. It didn't stint on Oscar bait either, as films such as Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, Good Will Hunting, and The Crying Game attest.
The mix of critical praise and boffo box office gave Weinstein an immense amount of power in the entertainment industry and, despite a reputation of being a total asshole, he also bought his way into the highest circles of Democratic Party fundraising and access to glamour pols such as Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Al Franken, Kristen Gillibrand, Chuck Schumer, Cory Booker, and Elizabeth Warren. Even his threatening to "rip" future Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe's balls off couldn't hurt his standing as long as the green was flowing. As Jezebel puts it,
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, he's shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and has also donated to state Democratic parties; in total, his political donations amount to over $1.4 million….
During Obama's 2012 campaign, Weinstein was noted as a top "bundler" from the entertainment industry as Hollywood money swept in to fill the donation gap left by a newly-regulated Wall Street. Shortly before that year's election, Republicans were infuriated by news that the film Seal Team Six: the Raid on Osama bin Laden, premiering just days before the election, was tweaked by Weinstein himself to expand Obama's role. Malia Obama interned for Weinstein this past spring, two years after Weinstein was publicly accused of groping Italian model Ambra Battilana.
"Across the years and continents," reports The New York Times, "accounts of Mr. Weinstein's conduct share a common narrative: Women reported to a hotel for what they thought were work reasons, only to discover that Mr. Weinstein, who has been married for most of three decades, sometimes seemed to have different interests." Multiple women said that Weinstein, often clad only in a robe or pajamas, would ask them to massage him or watch him shower. Among the women were actresses such as Ashley Judd, then starting her career, and he paid settlements to others, such as actress Rose McGowan, after an incident in 1997.
If Weinstein's behavior calls to mind the worst sort of casting-couch scenarios of Hollywood's supposed golden age, his response to the accusations in the Times' story is literally unbelievable. In the past, he had chalked up his behavior to blood-sugar problems (seriously). This time around, he has simultaneously denied the allegations, threatened to sue the Times for defamation, and blamed it all on a being a leading-edge baby boomer.
In a statement to the Times, he said:
I came of age in the 60's and 70's, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different.
More bizarrely, he ended his statement to the Times by trying to change the topic to…gun control:
I am going to need a place to channel that anger so I've decided that I'm going to give the NRA my full attention. I hope Wayne LaPierre will enjoy his retirement party. I'm going to do it at the same place I had my Bar Mitzvah. I'm making a movie about our President, perhaps we can make it a joint retirement party. One year ago, I began organizing a $5 million foundation to give scholarships to women directors at USC. While this might seem coincidental, it has been in the works for a year. It will be named after my mom and I won't disappoint her.
The only thing more pathetic than such an impotent rhetorical gesture is the non-response of Hollywood liberals who have largely either stayed silent so far or, like director Rob Reiner, tried to blame shift even further by turning to Fox News' sexual harassment scandals. Then there's Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels, who explained his show's lack of jokes at Weinstein's expense over the weekend by gnomically claiming, "It's a New York thing."

Which brings us perhaps to Tim Murphy, whose Republican Party is headed by a president from Queens who was caught on tape bragging that because he was famous he could "grab [women] by the pussy." Murphy's relationship with a married psychologist named Susan Edwards came to light last month when her husband sought to depose the congressman as part of a divorce proceeding. While that was difficult enough for a 65-year-old family values conservative to withstand, Politico reports that it was only when messages about a possible abortion between Murphy and Edwards came to light that the representative's career definitely tanked.
"And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options," Edwards texted to Murphy in late January, according to the Post-Gazette.
Edwards was responding to a Facebook post by Murphy, touting his anti-abortion position in Congress. Murphy is a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus and voted this week for legislation to ban abortions after 20 weeks.
Murphy's resignation, which came just a day after he had originally announced plans to retire at the end of his term in 2018, produced a bland thank-you note from Speaker Paul Ryan:
"It was Dr. Murphy's decision to move on to the next chapter of his life, and I support it," Ryan said in a statement. "We thank him for his many years of tireless work on mental health issues here in Congress and his service to the country as a naval reserve officer."

If Harvey Weinstein wielded near-absolute power in Hollywood, Murphy had created a personal fiefdom in Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District, winning 100 percent of the vote in 2014 and 2016. A former psychologist focusing on child development, he was a power player among pro-life groups but, like Weinstein, was known for treating support staff in abusive, angry ways. His chief of staff wrote a memo noting "unprecedented" 100 percent turnover in staff due to his fits and calling him out for his "inability to communicate without expressions of rage, criticisms or insults."
Far more important that personal comportment, though, is that someone like Murphy is in a position not simply to make laws about his own life, but about all of ours. Republican hypocrisy about abortion is nothing new—in 1992, pro-life advocates attacked Vice President Dan Quayle when he said he'd support his daughter's hypothetical choice to get an abortion and in 2014 it came out that Tennessee Rep. Scott DesJarlais had counseled both an ex-wife and a mistress to get abortions—but it still rightly shocks.
Gallup reports that even though self-identified political independents dipped below 40 percent for the first time in five years, Republicans and Democrats are struggling to gain and keep voters. Self-identified GOP members come in at just 28 percent of voters and Democrats pull 31 percent, well below either party's historical highs. And fully 61 percent of voters believe that a major third party is needed to better represent our views in national politics.
That's a new high and given the revelations of the past week and, doubtless, weeks to come, that figure will only climb.

Wait a minute here! Abortions for hypocritical conservatives should be regarded as a GOOD thing, because it means we'll have fewer hypocritical conservatives in the future! What's to bitch about?
I'm making over $7k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life.
This is what I do... http://www.onlinecareer10.com
Hypocritical Republicans, not conservatives. There's a difference. Being a member of a particular political party does not indicate your political philosophy.
Anyone who has paid attention to political football since before 1992 knows full well that Republicans and Democrats don't give a crap about morality unless it's something that might bring voters to the polls. Given the number of sex scandals that have occurred since then, it's a wonder that any voters would take anything that politicians say about morality seriously.
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link,

The worst you can say about Rep. Murphy is that he's a hypocrite and a dirty dog.
The best you can say about Weistein is that at least he's not a serial killer...
It's difficult to compare the two, really, especially when, say what you want about Weistein, he's still a private citizen whereas Murphy helps impose policy on our butts.
Weinstein. Sorry.
It's easy to compare the two for reason!
Yet Weinstein likely has far more direct power over far more peoples' lives than an individual congressman. He's also one of the largest Democrat bankrollers in Hollywood. The more appropriate comparison would be to Roger Ailes, although Weinstein's alleged behavior was far worse than Ailes.
And of course, neither of them are as bad as Bill Clinton. Clinton killed people for political gain.
-jcr
And Clinton is also a serial rapist. Probably since at least college.
"Yet Weinstein likely has far more direct power over far more peoples' lives than an individual congressman."
Sorry, but what? Weinstein has certainly used his power to assert control over women, but the number of actresses and employees of the Weinstein Company and affiliates are a minuscule drop in the bucket compared to a congressman producing legislation that affects American citizens through law. There is no comparison.
@JuanQPublic : Thank you. Saying that Weinstein has any direct power over people's lives was an asinine comment. I am in the "pox in both your houses" camp. Perhaps things will change, by my expectations are low. On the other hand, people with low expectations are rarely disappointed.
No, Weinerstein is a prominent Dem donor and Hollywood icon, which means he's a captain of SJW's. And a hypocrite.
The best you can say about quite a few prominent Americans is that they'll countenance anything as long as they keep their money and fame.
The best you can say about many if not most ordinary Americans is that they are as self-absorbed and self righteous (self-serving) as they are gullible and malleable.
I am going to need a place to channel that anger so I've decided that I'm going to give the NRA my full attention.
Well, he can't really wave the other shiny object currently sure to divert the attention of Democrats - campus rape - now can he? I suppose he could try his hand at BLM, but it might come out that he never sexually harassed any actresses of color.
"...he never sexually harassed any actresses of color."
As far as I know, he didn't sexually harass gay men or trannies, either. WHY, pray tell, WHY is all of HollyWeird NOT all up in arms about his obliviously skankish, dastardly DISCRIMINATION here?!?!?
(I am especially butt-hurt 'cause he never tried to harass MEEEEE...)
Just like poor Mac........

Each also helps explain why Americans are right to want the government out of our lives as much as possible.
If you keep saying "Americans are libertarians" over and over, will it start to come true? Power of suggestion?
I bet a majority of Americans want government out of their lives. The problem is that they still want it in other people's lives.
+1
Modern politics is about what you're going to force everyone else to do.
Conservatives want government to be their daddy who kicks the shit out of anyone who might deserve it.
Progressives want government to be their mommy who takes care of everyone (except those who engage in wrongthink).
Libertarians want government to treat adults like adults.
Everything I dislike should be illegal and everything I like should be compulsory. Why can't people get behind that?
^^This. Good one.
No, they want it in their own lives too, as long as they are taking out more than they're contributing. Consequently you vote to make sure the game is rigged in your favor.
I don't know about that, but I hear if you say "Americans are Libertarians" three times in front of the mirror at midnight a stoned Gary Johnson will appear and explain his foreign policy to you.
I larfed.
It's about 15 minutes of stammering, and then he asks if you want to watch Braveheart with him.
Two minutes of that is him saying repeatedly that he's having another 'Aleppo moment' and looking very unsure of himself.
Conservative denial "We vote our faith and for small government." Progressive denial "We vote to help the helpless." Libertarian denial "People are finally mad enough we could possibly win an election in theory." Least that big L on my registration still feels good.
Maybe if we passed a law that women are automatically registered to vote when they get an abortion?
Abusive and angry is kind of a job requirement for those positions.
Power (not just the political kind) both attracts psychopaths and encourages psychopathic behavior. It is known.
"... a stoned Gary Johnson..." That's redundant.
The Blue vs Red part is an illusion. This is only about power. How long they were able to get away with it and how often things like this get swept under the rug is just a testament to how much things haven't changed.
FTFY.
That is a nice thought about what Americans might believe politically, but current revealed preferences indicate that majorities want the government to stay out where it might inconvenience or get them in trouble but want it in if it benefits them ir screws over some people they do not like.
I didn't hear a harumph! from you.
All we need do is examine the machinations and polls around health care. I want lower premiums but I want my preexisting conditions. I want my adult child covered under my policy but I don't want to fund birth control.
The sausage making is there for all to see. No one can claim ignorance of why things are like they are; why nothing truly gets rolled back. The delusions of democracy, of wanting a government so beneficent and powerful it can give you what you want, but so limited that it can't never take it away.
The only way a libertarian experiment can happen is at the local level; like the free state thing. What happened to that? I can't even be bothered googling. All those resources spread thinly at the national level. Why haven't the forces of freedom focused on one city, and tried to take it. Just like the progressives have done in San Francisco, Seattle, and many places elsewhere. Start taking localities as if in a war where you're winning territory, and expand it out, advertising the results as you go. It's the one true advantage the US has over almost every other nation, that politics at a local level drives almost everything else.
Does anyone want to watch me shower?
Ask Rob Reiner
Wait, is there a part in it?
Yes, yes there is.
Nick Frost?
Carlos Danger, just send a pic first.
Not sure if Nick linked this, but Lauren Sivan is a saint, and Harvey Weinstein should be executed, partially for devaluing himself in front of America's angel, and partially for ruining that sweet move for the rest of us.
"Well, can you just stand there and shut up," he allegedly responded.
Trust me, that line ALWAYS gets the ladies going.
"Why is she a saint, your majesty," the commentariat asked Crusty. Crusty responded by sharing this link.
I'll be in my bunk.
Weinstein proceeded to expose himself and masturbate, before he quickly ejaculated into a potted plant
"Ejaculating into a potted plant" is what Bill called having sex with Hillary.
You think Bill was having sex with Hillary? Interesting hypothesis.
-jcr
I think that was actually "ejaculating into an empty pot."
The whole sexual harassment of actresses is a non-starter in Hollywood, but his attempting to genetically modify a plant will get him kicked right out...
While there's all this witch hunting going on, how about some opprobrium for the actresses who would take a roll in the hay with a married man to get a part? Isn't that unfair competition with the ones who won't put out?
-jcr
Brie Larson was bitching the other day about a TSA agent asking for her phone number, equating it with sexual assault. I suspect the main reason she'd make such an absurd comparison is because she's had to blow her share of studio execs to get decent parts, and doesn't understand that some GS-7 asking for her number isn't nearly as bad as an oily-skinned producer demanding she suck him off.
It seems to be a trend today to equivocate sexual assault with everything under the sun that someone hates. It's a great way to climb on a pedestal and rant to others.
a major third party is needed
You mean a SECOND party. The Ruling Party pretends to have two opposed factions, but the debt keeps increasing, and the wars keep killing our young men and women.
-jcr
^ This.
Will Jimmy Kimmel cry on national TV for all the women raped by that asshole?
Oh, Jimmy Kimmel where have you gone? A nation turns its lonely and aimless eyes to you!
I find it amusing Kimmel takes to rebutting his critics. Hijacking viewers with emotional nonsense is not an argument.
It's WHY the Ancient Greeks invented REASON. They wanted to weed out emotion (and sophistry) and passion that clouded our ability to ARGUE WITH LOGIC.
Kimmel is the reason, in other words, why we have logic.
Mindsets Kimmel is the reason, in other words, why humans invented logic.
I find it amusing Kimmel takes to rebutting his critics. Hijacking viewers with emotional nonsense is not an argument.
He seemed peeved at Trump Jr asking him his thoughts on Weinstein on Twitter...
Kimmel is just one of hundreds of entertainers with a microphone, you idiot. He is only important to TEAM RED! hacks like yourself.
That's funny, I only see my team blue friends talk about him.
Personally I just ignore it cause sooner or later they'll remember that he hosted "The Man Show" for like 5 years and he's obviously a horrible misogynist.
Good come back.
And one of the major third parties had their VP candidate come out to defend Hillary and do a fund-raiser for the other party.
Republican hypocrisy about abortion is nothing new?in 1992, pro-life advocates attacked Vice President Dan Quayle when he said he'd support his daughter's hypothetical choice
That's "hypocritical"?
He is supposed to condemn her to hell or something?
I can oppose abortion but if a loved one has one, what the hell am I supposed to do about it?
According to most pro-lifers, if your daughter has an abortion you should forgive her because, well, she obviously isn't capable of deciding if she wants to be a baby mill herself because she's an irrational woman. Many "pro-lifers" also think it should impossible for her to buy long-term effective birth control whether it's no-copay or with copay or with cash. Many pro-lifers want to make IUDs, implants and birth-control pills illegal because they "kill babies" by not allowing zygotes to implant- which isn't even correct medically.
On the other hand, many "pro-lifers" think you should put the doctor who gave her the abortion in jail even if the zygote is less than 12 weeks old and is basically a bunch of cells. This is the imposition-of-my-religion-on-everyone argument.
Please cite for us which "pro-lifer" elected official has called for a federal law making birth control illegal? Forget, for now, that the federal government has never been granted the authority to create such a law.
Does anybody remember that television producer who said when you're rich and famous you can grab women by the pussy and they'll just let you? I forget which one it was, but that's not really a Hollywood thing, it's a power thing. What's the point of being rich and famous if you can't get an endless supply of get-out-of-jail-free cards for behavior that gets plebes locked up?
No it's not a Hollywood or power thing, I'm pretty sure that was exclusive to that one producer, and he totes did it. There were accusers and everything!
Weinstein's bankrolling the Democratic Party? That explains much...
He's the new Soros to wingnuts.
Better than the "THE NRA OWNS THE GOP!!", despite them giving a lot less than a lot of other groups,
Seems the left has its own share of conspiracy theorists, seeing the Koch Brothers behind every conservative grassroots movement and the NRA bribing Congressman to subvert the will of the their constituents, rather than voting as the voters in their district demand.
Malia Obama interned for Weinstein this past spring, two years after Weinstein was publicly accused of groping Italian model Ambra Battilana.
Hmm...
Weinstein is the Bill Clinton of Hollywood.
Remember when actresses were crying because Hillary was supposed to break the symbolic glass ceiling? Remember when they marched because Trump is a misogynist? Ashley Judd included. I guess all is fair when it comes to boosting political and acting careers.
It's an odd and very pathetic circle of power hungry people - some people too power hungry to stand up for what's right, some people too power hungry to care. I feel bad for the women affected - but I also don't think they're quite as #brave as people are painting them to be. We're talking about extremely wealthy, influential celebrities here - not single mom office clerks. They wanted to keep the peace so they took their payouts to keep their careers afloat at the expense of other naive, unassuming women. It will be interesting to read about all of the #girl power moments at the Oscars and golden globes this year. Patting themselves on the back for finally speaking their truth....when really it took a male reporter to connect the slew of dots and do 10 months of investigating on assaults that occurred for decades which people openly joked and knew about....and somehow, they'll turn this Weinstein scandal into a Trump's America moment and if not that than NRA!
Many of us don't care one iota what politicians do in their private lives. But the people who do care likely care about what *you* do in your private life too. Yes, you, reading this article. People want to dictate how you live your life, and they want to use government to do it. That's why they support politicians like Murphy, and why many democrats support who they do. They're obsessed with what other people are doing, and they let everyone know on Twitter and Facebook.
The politicians who this lame, obsessive mindset turns to couldn't care less, but they see a huge political opportunity in pledging to control people's lives. That's why most politicians in Washington appeal to voters' worst aspects, because those aspects tend to be irrational and often nuts.
It's also a good reminder on why the Constitution attempts to mitigate the "tyranny of the majority", ie mob rule by self-righteous impulses.
Politicians and political partisans are hypocrites? Who would have guessed?
I don't see the connection to demand for a third party though. Politicians have been hypocritical forever, and third parties rarely get any significant votes.
But at least third party candidates aren't lying hypocritical scum like Bill Weld...wait a minute...
2005:
SOMETHING must be done!
2017:
SOMETHING must be done!
Change is comin', yall.

Republican politicians are scum who would kill their own children and grandchildren,
THEREFORE
Everyone else should have the right to kill their own children and grandchildren, too.
It's perfectly logical.
QED.
Also, limited government is obviously a bad idea because Republicans are hypocrites who only *pretend* to support limited government.
QED.
"he paid settlements"
Did he? Or were settlements paid by others on his behalf? Any politicians involved? Where are the investigative journalists?
Oh, right. "working" at Rolling Stoned.
Third party, sure. Two quick things. First, there already exist third (and more) parties. Thing is, few are interested. Whatever your political bent, left to right, there is a party there ready to get your vote.
Second, liberals think conservatives should form a new party, and conservatives think liberals should form a new party for the same reasons. A new party would split the vote and with it voter strength ensuring victory for the party that did not split.
'Which brings us perhaps to Tim Murphy, whose Republican Party is headed by a president from Queens who was caught on tape bragging that because he was famous he could "grab [women] by the pussy."'
I'm shocked that Reason repeats such awful language. The sentence could have been rephrased to be more sensitive:
'Which brings us perhaps to Tim Murphy, whose Republican Party is headed by a president from Queens who was caught on tape bragging that because he was famous he could "grab [women] by the cigar holder."'
OR: Which brings us perhaps to Tim Murphy, whose Republican Party is headed by a president from Queens who, while then a "democrat," had been "caught" and carefully stored (by Deep State?) on tape, engaged in the kind of locker room braggadocio that seems to define those who suffer the Fascissocialist Psychosis and who are, thus, self-licensed to "grab [women] by the cigar holder?"'
.... Each of these examples underscores the massive hypocrisy the fascist-left/"democrats'" Deep State, RINOs, Republicans and both of America's "conservatives," traffic in ....
Sure it does.
If one can conjure the delusion of there being something similar in the decades-long conduct of a kind of Joeseph Goebbels/Leni Riefenstahl cross - a massively-influential Clinton-styled career co-serial-rapist, Weinstein and the alleged one-of stupidity of that other person. Of whom - until this week - no-one has ever heard.
Only then does "each of these examples underscores the same massive hypocrisy.
Brian Richard Allen
I'll say one thing further. Cosby was endearing, funny, charming. This Weinstein guy is one ugly fuck, and it probably is as much part of his public face as his core. But I guess he's richer and better connected than Cosby, and both of them are naturally good liars. And hot chicks so really really want to get into showbiz and be admired by legions of mostly anonymous people--indeed, worshipped by them--that they'll let infamous scumbags like Weinstein humiliate them. Odd. Wish they had a mom to warn them about that stuff I guess.
If a centrist candidate is needed to win over independents, then the Libertarian party needs someone like Weld, who ran Massachusetts efficiently and competently, and appears less likely to have Aleppo moments (than last year's candidate), even if he's not ideologically pure. It means preferring a candidate who's likely to govern in the manner of "less is more" over a candidate who passes all the litmus tests and fires up the true believers.
Is Harvey Weinstein the brother from the Drew Carey Show?
This just in: "Lena Dunham calls for men to denounce Harvey Weinstein".
Well, I've gotten my marching orders. I didn't know what to think until a shallow, entitled, stupid publicity whore told me. Wonder how well she knows him, and how well he knows her. But please, no pictures.
Weinstein was a borderline sexual predator. Murphy was a jerk to his staff and betrayed his principles to benefit himself. They're not really on the same scale.
I get that Nick wants to make a broader point about the untrustworthy nature of both parties, but he's sort of egging on churlish liberals who wants to play deflection or equivalency games like "Derp what about the televangeslists and pro life hypocrites".
Did Murphy's mistress get an abortion due to pressure? Murphy had to resign because he had no power beyond his own little district. Weinstein issued a non apology apology and declared that he would turn his attention to the NRA. That's a behavior you'd expect from someone cocooned in privilege and protection and never had to be held accountable. His movie studio only fired him after additional details emerged.
If endless and pointless Middle East wars or a win-at-all-costs emphasis on Identity Politics didn't result in a third party, nothing will. If producing Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton as your only two choices doesn't create an immediate demand for a third party, nothing will. If Libertarians began to run and govern at the city, county and state level, however, that might create an interest in a third party.
Murphy was a elected congressman voted to ban abortion, but wanted his mistress to get one.

Drumpf is president
Yeah, both sides do it, Nick. Go suck on Ajit Pai's cock some.

When I saw the photos of Donna Karan who defends Harvey Weinstein in this article from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....ctims.html. That might explain why Harvey Weinstein didn't sleep with her, lol.
And American Thinker posted a interesting blog rant about Harvey Weinstein.
One guy named Cail Corishev posted the following comment on VoxDay's blog who was worth to quote:
"When the Clinton/Epstein Island revelations were under discussion last year, some NeverTrumpers said, "But look, Trump went there once too, so he's just as bad!" When we pointed out that he never went back, and in fact banned Epstein from his own properties and said some cryptic things that hinted he knew what happened there, they said, "Okay, then why didn't he report it or do something about it? He's just as bad!"
That was a legitimate question. This is the answer, and it's just starting.
The other part of this is that point in movies like Temple of Doom where the villain's plans are starting to fall apart, so to ensure the success of his final master scheme, he grabs one of his own henchmen and sacrifices him to his gods for extra power. The guy doesn't have to be a bad henchman; might have even been a good one, but he was expendable. The Deep State has been kinda reeling for more than a year now, its plans not working quite like they used to, often backfiring and digging them in deeper. That's bound to lead to division, betrayals, and trying to sacrifice the other guy before he sacrifices you."
The first rule of Hollywood mafia is: You DO NOT TALK ABOUT HOLLYWOOD MAFIA!
The second rule of Hollywood mafia is: You DO NOT TALK ABOUT HOLLYWOOD MAFIA!
....
And it's only the tip of the iceberg as there might be others unwritted rules of the Hollywood mafia. One guy nicknamed Army Aviator on American Thinker posted the following worth to quote. http://www.americanthinker.com.....3560429292:"I believe that Rabbi Spero has offered the absolute BEST assessment of why the Liberal Socialists (Democrats) turned on Harvey Weinstein. Socialists HATE Jews and LOVE Islam. As long as a secular Jews like Weinstein and others, opposes Israel, supports "Gun Control," and HATES observant Jews, then they are "in the fold," and "standing members on the reservation."
ALL of Weinstein's sexual proclivities were overlooked and ignored, UNTIL such time as he openly supported ISRAEL and the Jews right of self-defense! He is also correct, in that if the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto had been armed, the outcome would have resulted in a whole lot of DEAD NAZIS. But to make such an observation and publicly state it, is the antithesis of the Left. Weinstein HAS to be punished now and he will.
Excellent observation on the part of Rabbi Spero. I think he's hit the nail on the head!"
Not sure if it is the root cause of why Weinstein was eventually dropped. It smells a little as an alt-right conspiracy theory.
Not impossible, but not yet proven.
I think loveconstitution1789 hit the nail on the head. That cute starlets have to f some ugly dudes to get work in Tinsel Town shouldn't be a surprise. Where do we think the term "casting couch" comes from? The real story is Who did Weinstein piss off to bring such wrath down upon himself? What did he do -- refuse to produce The Return To Brokeback Mountain?
There is a big difference.
Murphy had objectionable private behavior, and behaved as an hypocrite. Yet it was a very tightly kept secret. A carreer destroying secret that was very confidential.
Wenstei'ns attitude looks more like an open secret. Something that anyone who was inside Hollywood knew. THIS is the scandal. The fact that an individual is a sick bastard can be a sad fact of life. The fact that this was public knowledge among some of Hollywood's elite and that they were OK with it is the real political problem here. You know, the same Hollywood that lectures the public on "rape culture"
Those bastards need to be removed, as painfully as possible, from positions of moral authority.
That's the most hypocritical part about this whole Weinstein debacle. I know this sounds terrible, but I understand why the lesser known/ popular actresses stayed quiet. Speaking up would put an end to their careers - the rumors would be shrugged off and they'd never act again. But so many well known actresses knew and experienced this...even after their careers developed, you would think they would have ganged up - now it's literally all of the Hollywood elite who knew / had similar experiences. They talk about equal pay, women's rights, sexual harassment, rape culture...and in the mean time, most of them were veryyyyy aware this wasn't just a rumor. Their long - standing silence allowed for the behavior to continue based around this disgusting hush hush environment...stay away from him, keep quiet so we can all get paid. Shame on all of them. Too many powerful, influential people knew for this to stay a 'secret.' Hollywood and the entertainment industry officially outed itself as the self congratulatory whores for the money just as the majority Americans always knew.
So as the inevitable string of "me too" actors come out with the poor me stories, should not they be pilloried for failing to report these decades of abuse?
What about all the "see something, say something" liberals who saw something and said nothing?
Where are the lists of names of the Hollywood elite who were enablers at best, co-conspirators at worst?
Oh, wait, Hollywood. Sorry, I lost my head there for a minute. A little logic and reason slipped out.
RE: Harvey Weinstein, Tim Murphy, and Political Hypocrisy
"Last week saw not one but two disturbing scandals involving powerful men and sex. Each situation underscores the massive hypocrisy liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans..."
...and I thought the casting couch was dead.
I stand corrected.
I don't see why Hillary was "'shocked and appalled"; her husband did far worse to women, and Hillary protected and enabled him.
As for Weinstein, he treated women like high class hookers, but they always had the option of saying "no".
The excuses that the MSM keep coming up with for bottling up these charges against Weinstein are getting increasingly ludicrous.

I think this entire Weinstein scandal is a great example of supply and demand. This is the way Hollywood works and always has. Why? Because it can. Why? Because there's a huge supply of young, pretty women who want to be rich and famous actresses, and this supply outstrips demand. There are only so many movies being made, but thousands of hotties migrating to Hollywood and graduating from acting programs every year.
The reason why it takes them so long to come forward is because they all know this is the way things work, and they all knew that paying this price would mean riches and fame for them, and it did. This is how the sausage gets made (hidden?) in their chosen profession. That's supply and demand in action: being a rich and popular actress has high costs because there are fewer opportunities than there are applicants, putting out or putting up with movie-mogul grab-assery is one of those costs, and they all knew this and accepted it, even if they didn't like it much.
The explosion of confessions and public accusations is them all realizing that fellow stars are getting some free publicity and virtue-signal creds out of this, and joining in to get some of it themselves.
No, you're right, I don't care about these overpaid, talentless dress racks getting groped. It's the dues they pay to be rich and famous, they know it and always have. *shrug*
The actresses coming forward now often had no problem hanging out with Weinstein for decades while it advanced their careers. They became insanely rich and famous, while knowing full well that Weinstein would continue doing what he did and that women who had the backbone to refuse Weinstein's advances had to leave the industry.
Weinstein is a disgusting slob. But the conduct of these actresses is morally reprehensible.
I can't quite believe the events that are occuring these days, especially in hollywood!
