President Trump is denying this morning that any DACA deal was reached with the Democrats.
Always keep them guessing. This is when Donald Trump truly became president.
"The Trump Pivot."
Naturally, that's also what he calls his penis.
Hello.
I was always of the opinion the wall was just a ruse to use as a negotiation tactic on immigration. Overshoot the demand knowing full well the solution is somewhere below it via compromise. The point was to jolt Congress into action regarding the issue. I do it myself in business. I purposely over shoot my requests in dealing with others knowing full well what I'm looking for. The thinking is if one over shoots they get something closer to what they really want.
At least I think.
Even if that's his plan (which I doubt), the problem is that his supporters appear to believe they're actually getting a wall.
That was clearly his plan. And his supporters understand that everyone in Washington hates them and can't wait to replace them with cheaper more easily controlled Latin American peasants. So, they understand that anything Trump gets is better than the nothing they were going to get with anyone else, even though they want the wall built.
Where and how have you been?
Working. Being productive. Was on Glibertarians for a bit, but they banned me. No kidding. They invited me over and asked me several times to come and then banned me one day out of blue. And they have never said why. I figured if I was worth inviting and banning, I was worth an obscenity filled email. But nothing.
So I have now been banned from two sites in my life; National Review and Glibertarians. That is pretty funny when you think about it.
That is hilarious about the glibs. We all figured DHS finally blocked Reason. Well, you will never be banned here hopefully. Welcome back. We missed you, buddy.
Being productive.
Wait a minute, i thought you were a federal employee.
I know Citizen, it damn near got me fired.
It's September. End of the fiscal year. They probably have to run out the budget.
How are they gonna get their Stalin on without purges?
Sorry to hear that. I enjoy your commentary.
Breitbart disagrees
There already is a wall. Trump just wants it gold plated.
With spotlights. Don't forget the spotlights. And not pointing out. Pointing upwards and crossed.
I think it's more that Trump is easily persuaded by whoever he happens to be talking to at a given instant. And then will change his mind as soon as he reads his twitter feed.
Remember when he was visiting China and the Chinese persuaded him they can't do anything about North Korea?
No one knew building a wall would be so expensive and so hard.
I mean how could anybody have foreseen that?
Russian military exercises in Belarus have set NATO on edge.
Belarus would just like to stay out of the news so they don't get the Scaramucci Bohemian Rhapsody treatment.
The fandango?
North Korea has threatened to "sink" Japan with a nuclear attack in retaliation for the latest U.N. sanctions.
Is this before or after they capsize Guam?
When I read this I couldn't help but think about a parody Peanuts cartoon I once saw. Charlie Brown and Lucy were swimming in water up to their necks. Charlie Brown has this shit-eating grin on his face, and Lucy is yelling "Goddammit Charlie Brown! I will NOT sink if you take it out!"
This is canon in my head now. Charlie Brown finally got some.
"Hey, that's not my belly button!"
"That's not my finger."
Through rape.
Staunch conservative allies of President Trump erupted in anger and incredulity late Wednesday after Democrats announced the president had agreed to pursue a legislative deal...
Angered that they weren't the ones who got to announce the deal.
the Republicans couldn't legislate their way out of a wet paper bag, even if they hold both houses of Congress.
One day they will regain control from the Democratic minority!
I am a bit shocked at how completely inept Paul Ryan is. Maybe the most uninspiring House Speaker of my lifetime. I loath Nancy, but she could at least rally her caucus. The troika of Newt Gingrich, The Hammer, and Dick Armey were pretty much the high water mark for leadership in my time - we will never see their like again any time soon.
Dick Armey talked a good limited government game.
Dick Army was my nickname in JAG school.
Why did you acquire such a nickname?
Because his arm was always in his pants?
I know, right? Paul Ryan went from "the Republican visionary" to a complete nothingburger very quickly.
I'm not a fan of Ryan by any means, but in his defense he stepped into a pretty tough situation. The GOP is a divided shitshow. Very little seems to unify it beyond opposition to the Democrats. Between the establishment, Trumpism, and the remnants of the Tea Party, they can't seem to agree enough to pass legislation on anything significant.
There's something very intriguing about how the Republicans, even when they have complete control over most of the federal leadership positions, almost always tends to govern as if they're the minority party. Save for a few unique stretches such as the mid-late 90s, they inevitably let their agenda be influenced by Democrat pushback.
I suspect a lot of it goes back to the Depression and World War II when they went for 20 years without controlling Congress or the Presidency. As a result, from a psychological standpoint they're always reacting to what the Democrats want instead of exercising party discipline to pass what they want. Public opposition never stopped Democrats from getting legislation passed because they know how hard it is to repeal something once its in place. Republicans operate mostly as a fundraising party that has a tough time getting anything done, but can cite their milquetoast opposition to left-wing policies to their donors to keep their sinecures safe.

Just when we were so close to never hearing anyone over-pronunciate DACA again.
Eight residents of a Florida nursing home died after Hurricane Irma knocked out the air conditioning system.
Bottom line: You do not want to own or reside in a nursing home in a hurricane-prone region.
Nobody wants to reside in nursing home, in general.
When it was 106 indoors last week with no air conditioning, I was thinking how I would hate to be an old person in a nursing home with 106 degrees indoors. Bad enough being middle aged in that situation.
Those people might as well have been in France.
Or...put all your old expensive people in a state where hurricanes come through and let nature sort your costs out for you?
I've often wondered if that's the secret of why there are so many oldsters in Florida. When I get to be that age, I plan on going somewhere a lot dryer and moderately colder, preferably somewhere that MJ is legal.
Florida doesn't have an income tax, so if you're a fixed-income retiree you get to keep more money.
...what type of fixed income, since many of those sources (if memory severs) are exempt from income taxes anyway. I'm sure you're right though, since the lack of state income taxes is always a good reason to live pretty much anywhere.
(if memory severs)
Yep, John's back.
I don't know the specifics, but that's a reason i've seen cited for why Florida has so many olds.

Ooooo. Everyone gets to be outraged!

I have this image in my head of Moynihan wildy gesticulating all over the studio, mindlessly violating Kmele's and Matt's personal space and walking into furniture in his excited diatribe-fueled fugue state.

Nope, I just think you're a kook.

I did not see such a total capitulation, no.
I did not seriously think the wall would be built. Even if Trump had been utterly determined to build one (which he evidently isn't) and even if Republicans were completely united in funding the wall (which they aren't), it would still have been bogged down in endless environmental studies and lawsuits. But now that's not even a worry.
And I did not seriously think Trump would govern like some uber-conservative. He's a center-left New York Democrat at heart.
But I did not see Trump completely throwing away his signature issue only 7 months into his presidency, no.
endless environmental studies and lawsuits
Probably easier to actually get Mexico to build it on their side than to navigate the great bureaucratic morass.
Obviously, I mean that's what we've been doing with our manufacturing after all.
Thank god for that.
And I definitely saw Trump's tweet coming. Of course the wall is never gonna get built (maybe there will be some funding; cronies gotta get paid), but it was also obvious that Trump would talk about how mean it would be to deport DACA immigrants.
Sean Spicer and Chelsea Manning have been named visiting fellows at the Institute of Politics at Harvard's Kennedy School.
Wasn't Chelsea trying not to be a fellow?
Psst. $park?. Hey, $park?.
Up yours, $park?.
The purpose of the wall isn't to build it but to NOT build it. Why? So that Trump has an excuse to round up illegals and imprison them indefinitely and if anyone complains say, "We can't send them back - the wall isn't built yet you idiot!" So pretty much any deal with the dems is fine as long as they can start saying this. That Pelosi would express relief at Trump's reassurance on DACA is monstrous.
Eh, I don't think Trump is that sinister.
Trump: "It puts the lotion in the basket..."
You realize that legally Trump could actually round up all these illegal immigrants, DREAM program or no DREAM program, and send them home tonight right? Not saying they could catch them all in one night, but there is no legal restriction that I'm aware of to prevent him from starting.
So if that's what you're afraid of, you might want to ask the question of why he hasn't already done it when there is nothing in particular stopping him right this second.
That is not how deportation works.
Also, if the DREAM act gets passed, these people have legal status. So it would most definitely be illegal to order them deported for no reason.

Yet the Harvard Law School graduate, author and political commentator has drawn unprecedented security measures at UC Berkeley for his sold-out speech at the campus' many-windowed Zellerbach Hall, and Berkeley city police have received permission from the City Council to use pepper spray on any violent protesters who show up."

Sharks with frickin laser beams in the water.
Here is the bottom line with the amnesty thing; the Republicans control Congress. If they don't want amnesty it won't pass. Trump isn't negotiating with Pelosi and Schummer so much as the Republicans and Congress are using Pelosi and Schumer as a proxy to negotiate a deal they want but are too dishonest to openly support. This way they get to cast meaningless votes against whatever deal is made and tell their supporters how they would have done something if it hadn't been for that damned Trump in the White House. That way they get what they want and avoid responsibility for getting it, just like they did when they rolled over for Obama on the budget. I guess they figure GOP voters won't notice they now control the Congress.
Oh goodness, welcome back John.
Glad you are back so you can explain what people really mean when they do or say things. We've been lost without you. Oh I kid!
Thank you. And your damn right I will do that.
Quite a few Republicans came out openly in support of passing a law as soon as Trump made his announcement. I think the opposition to legal status for people on DACA is a vocal minority even within the Republican Party (I'm not talking about Congress specifically, for clarity's sake).
That doesn't necessarily mean they aren't important from an electoral standpoint. They aren't necessarily spread uniformly throughout the country. And I think they're definitely more motivated to vote (or abstain from voting) on this issue than Republicans who are ok with it. And particularly in low-turnout elections like primaries and midterms, a vocal, motivated minority can have an outsized impact.
I tend to agree with you that Republicans want more immigration, legal or otherwise. Their big-dollar donors certainly do, while the majority of their voting base do not. Rock and a hard place, I suppose, or at least that's probably how it seems when you have absolutely no moral compunction against lying through your teeth.
The ACA debacle should usher them out of office post-haste and I'm under no illusions that it will be the conservative or libertarianish members who get to stay. They'll be the one's removed, I suspect.
I think generally a majority of both republicans and democrats tends to be unfavorable toward immigration. A larger majority on the republican side, but democrats are a coalition party too. They also have the labor and poor minority groups too, who tend to take a predictable view against immigrants. At least the voters, if not the leadership.
Huh, city council so impressed with 2017 election results, votes to allow Russian illegal immigrants to vote in local elections.

"Belarus" literally means "White Russians". Putin is just obviously checking their privilege.
I guess i been meaning to pick up some kahlua on my way home.
Fun fact: the reason for the "White Rus" moniker is actually because the Kievan Rus associated each of the four cardinal directions with a different color. White was associated with the north; hence the land to the north became "White Russia." Black was associated with the south, which is why the Black Sea is called that.
Red and green were associated with east and west, but i forget which was which.
I always thought red green was associated with Canada.
So Belarus is Winterfell?
Also, since black was associated with the south, the inhabitants of the Caucasus region are to this day known disparagingly as "??????," or "blacks."
Literal Caucasians are "black" in Russia. It is a weird country.

Its we who got thrown under the bus!
In 1 day Trump has not only signaled amnesty but has said he will sign a bill allowing the government to persecute those who commit 'hates speech'.
The bill was written by the Southern Poverty Law Center fascists. You know the people who declared anyone who disagrees with Progressive Orthodoxy is a racist, sexist, bigot etc and anything they say is hate speech.
Lets see in addition we got Lois Lerner off the Hook, Obamacare stronger than ever... time to go exercise my 2nd amendment rights while it is still possible, guaranteed this meal is next on the Liberals asshat's plate.
What bill is he talking about?
I would love to know, I have no idea...
OK, maybe this is what he's talking about:
http://www.breitbart.com/big-g.....ee-speech/
This afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed President Trump would "absolutely" be signing a resolution drafted by Republican and Democrat lawmakers "condemning" hatred.
"He and [Senator Tim Scott] talked about that and discussed that and agreed that that was the appropriate place to be," Sanders said. "In terms of whether or not he'll sign the joint resolution, absolutely, and he looks forward to doing so as soon as he receives it."
But the resolution is manifestly a ruse ? the first line of attack in a new wave of assaults against free speech in America.
Let's examine what the motion, passed by both legislative chambers early this week, says.
The preamble, in addition to expressing "support for the Charlottesville community," demands of the President that he rejects "White nationalists, White supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis, and other hate groups" and urges him and his cabinet to "use all available resources to address the threats posed by those groups".
That seems pretty weak. Condemning those groups doesn't infringe their free speech. From the description, it doesn't even sound like the law directs the president to use any resources, it just urges that he do so. And "addressing the threats posed by those groups" doesn't by any means necessitate violating free speech. As we saw in Charlottesville, those groups aren't always peaceful, and it's entirely possible and appropriate for the government to (within the confines of the Constitution) address and police against violence from those groups.
Right, but it's Breitbart, so...

I would rather accept a one-term Trump Presidency than accept this plate of tripe served up as a "fair compromise" by the 'Rats.
Get the wall started by volunteer CITIZEN (real citizens) labor if necessary and put 2 more conservative SCOTUS justices on the bench.
Throw in tax cuts for small businesses and the Middle Class.
Primary as many RINOs as possible.
Even if DJT is a one-term miracle it will have been worth it. He'll still have a fighting chance in 2020 if he listens to his loyal base.
Delightful!
Actually looking at this one again, it might be more akin to denial and bargaining.
That might be as close as a Breitbarter is capable of getting to acceptance of reality.

No, they were released or resigned just like Bannon, the battle is on. I am not jumping off the train because Democrat Leaders and MSM is telling more lies. I will wait for Bannon to report on this, note he hasn't said a word. He is closer to the truth than any of them. I think the Democrat Leaders just walked in to a trap and MSM. Think before you leap I want to win the war.
I mean she heard it straight from Orange Ponzi, but she STILL wants to know what Bannon thinks!
This is great. What did they expect to happen with they voted for a serial liar/con man who was a Democrat most of his life? That he would follow through on all his campaign promises?
I am somewhat surprised he's giving in on this issue, but I'm not shocked. The guy doesn't seem to have any guiding principles and seems to shift his position based on who he talked to last or who he is mad at for the moment.
The other thing, though, is that I think the Breitbart wing of the party overexaggerates their importance. Trump's stance on immigration wasn't the only reason people voted for him in the primary, and certainly not in the general election. I don't think all of them are going to feel betrayed by this move.
"Do what's best for Donald Trump" may not be a GOOD guiding principle, but it is A guiding principle.
Even then, he's not disciplined enough to consistently do that.
Limbaugh is still stuck in stage 1, denial:
Chuck and Nancy, first they make a deal on the debt ceiling and spending, and Trump's praising them and praising it. Mitch and Paul are over there fuming that they've been sold out and then thrown under the bus. And now this thing comes along, and everybody's just fatalistic about it and thinking that it's over. But I stop and I ask myself: Would Trump really do this?
Does Trump not know how he would blow up the entire support base he has by making a deal with Chuck and Nancy, and taking the wall off the table while granting amnesty to anybody? I don't care if it's children, if it's seasoned citizens. I'm asking myself: Would Trump really do that? Is he that?? Fill in the blank. But a lot of people do think it, a lot of people did think it, and right there pushing that narrative is the Drive-By Media ? and certain Republicans are helping that narrative be pushed.
But I stop and I ask myself: Would Trump really do this?
Limbaugh is so retarded that he thinks Trump needs a good reason to do something!
We need to get that gold microphone tested for lead particles.
