Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo said North Korea's nuclear bomb talk is no threat and the island was ready to defend itself.
Duck and cover 2.0.
Bomb North Korea with food, and the regime will collapse.
Trump and his advisors really need to read Bread Overhead.
Bomb North Korea with food, and the regime will collapse.
I'm not so sure of that--I think a lot of people under-estimate just how much NK exemplifies a national case of Stockholm Syndrome. We like to joke about how their citizens go on crying jags when they see the Kims, but that psychology is real.
Even if the Kims were removed somehow, a large portion of the country would have to undergo some sort of de-programming like what people who come out of cults go through. The sickness is that deep.

Read "Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea", B. Demick.
Yes, quite a few are, but many are faking it since the alternatives are really bad.
"Nothing To Envy" is really a marvelous book, I recommend it all the time.
CD`s, food, US currency, and weapons would ensure Fay Boy Kim`s demise. After going to college in Switzerland, he`s surely not unaware of this.
I'm pretty sure the NorK regime would only have to broadcast that the rations being dropped from the skies are poisoned to weaken their defenses before an invasion and each comrade would happily bring in every box and can of food we dropped.
But what if North Korea stations too many troops there?
Hello.
Good morning, Rufus!
What's your take on the US possibly using a point system similar to Canada's?
I agree there's no threat, but he really has no way to defend the island from a nuclear bomb...
Something tells me North Korea's missiles are not that accurate.
Everyone keeps going on about their reach, but nobody is saying anything about their targetting.
Remember Saddam's SCUD missiles? When we shot them down with Patriots, we were basically just rearranging the random distribution of landing sites.
Which is why I said it's not a threat. I doubt he could even accurately hit Tokyo, and Guam is 2,000 miles away and 1/4 the size of Tokyo.
It's a nuclear warhead. You don't have to hit Guam to cause massive damage. A dirty air burst 10 miles upwind of the island will force a massive evacuation of the entire island. It might be years before the island reaches DOE safe levels of radiation.
Not that I disagree with your point, and I hate to get all Googly here, but...
I've lived in both Iraq and S. Korea. Koreans are much more efficient and organized at...well, fucking everything...than Iraqis. Might be different for the Norks, being stuck in a fantasy version of the 50s and all, but I wouldn't use the shittiness of things made by Iraqis as a basis for any kind of quality analysis of a different country.
I agree with this, they might aim at San Francisco, but hit Vancouver. I'm willing to take that chance.
"It's idiotic to say a congressman's hijab painting violates the separation of church and state," writes Kat Timpf.
To be fair, Lady Liberty is always out there unaccompanied by a male relative.
There is nothing anywhere about the separation of mosque and state. Just saying.
Nor Synagogue and State.
Look at all those Menorah put up on public property for the third rate Jewish holiday Hanukkah
Now there is.
And showing her hair. That's immodest.
I sure hope no Congresscritter is sporting a Jesus cross because that would be problematical too.
Of course it doesn't violate the separation of church and state, but it is humorous to see the left hoisted by its own unconstitutional petard.
Bully for them!
The claims of a British model who was allegedly kidnapped and held for ransom under threat of being sold to Arab sex slavers may be running into some trouble.
In actuality, she and her Mediterranean date were made to wait for their table after a reservation screwup but the story got changed after a case of everyone playing the telephone game?
The ary where Liam Neeson goes on a rampage to save her did not bear close examination.

America in the last 50 years is basically encapsulated in those two paragraphs--boomer shitlibs set up something in a continuing and increasingly pathetic series of sad efforts to temporarily disassociate and numb themselves from the fact that they aren't teenagers anymore, and the whole enterprise is eventually co-opted by their grandkids/great-grandkids who cluelessly complain about the evils of capitalism while guzzling food and drinks from the event sponsors.

The irony is that, in the absence of artificial affirmative action, such suspicions would be baseless because those colleagues would be there on merit.
Also ironic since he didn't write that or anything close to that.
I'm talking about his critics, Einstein. Critics who say that different groups are equally talented yet insist on off action.
*affirmative action
Libertarian, I wasn't replying to you. I was replying to the original comment. His critics keep saying he is "anti-woman" and cannot actually quote a single line from the 10 pages that would qualify as such. The one Fist quoted.
...and, no, I don't think Fist agrees with the comment either.
Fully aware you didn't make the comment. Doubted you agreed with it either. But it needs to be said A LOT because, frankly, the media has fucked the story of what he said up so thoroughly that their analysis has little correlation with what he wrote.
Yeah, the only reason there aren't exactly as many female plumbers as there are male is because of the patriarchy, and not that women generally are less willing to accept a good paycheck in exchange for being elbow deep in human excrement than men are.
So it would be offensive to say that, for instance, a blind mole-rat shouldn't be in charge of QA or a single cell organism shouldn't be a coder.
These Sugar Barons Built an $8 Billion Fortune With Washington's Help
Or even, let's say, a free-ish market.
They're missing half the story.
Oddly enough, I was just reading a list of Trump's many, many accomplishments since taking office and they list his work on keeping Mexico from sending us cheap sugar as a good thing that helps support those hard-working American family farmers. Bullshit. It mostly helps the big ag businesses in the corn industry - they love the sugar tariffs that make corn syrup a profitable enterprise. As bad as the Fanjul family is, ADM and the Andreas family have profited just as much.
It's rent-seeking cronies all the way down.
As long as the brothers are around, "I would fall out of my chair at any approach that leads to a free market in sugar."
Q. What happens when you throw a sugar cane plant into a woodchipper?
A. Same as anything else.
What happens if you throw a wood chipper into a wood chipper?
Is said "wood chipper" made of wood? Otherwise, word to the wise, you will likely void the warranty.
"sugar, dollar for dollar, is the most influential commodity in the U.S.,"
Someone forget about corn?
I don't think they forgot, dollar for dollar, sugar wins. Nabisco moved production of Oreo to Mexico amidst howls of outrage, but it wasn't labor that forced them to leave, it was the cost of sugar being 3 times higher in the US. The howls of outrage couldn't touch that.
Now regulators are sure that things will change if they just regulate bodywork shops in the same way.
They're just one regulation away from cockblock utopia.
Sundar Pichai is a shameless coward. His excuse for why they fired Danmare is laughable and shows how craven the ideology of inclusivity for its own sake is that it cannot abide having its premises examined.
No joke.
If we were to take these peoples' claims seriously --- men and women don't have any innate differences that would explain differences in the number of them in jobs. So, CLEARLY, because they have no differences, we need more women.
Why?
Because...reasons. Obviously.
Either women have different views and experiences that are important but would also explain why they might not like that type of work --- or they are basically the same as men, which makes hiring them far less vital for different viewpoints et al.
I love how the people decrying the "screed" and "diatribe" are dramatically more unbalanced than the rather sober memorandum that explains the issue and provides options to correct them.
It's dangerous to try to mix logic with feminism.
They had to fire him. There would have been a revolt among their nearly uniformly left-wing employees had they not. That memo is simply an exercise in justifying why he was fired and claiming that Google values free expression at the same time.
Conservatives weren't thrilled with Google before, so nothing lost. What are they going to do, use Bing for search and post videos on Dailymotion?
To be fair, he wasn't fired for the manifesto. Google really doesn't care what he wrote in it content wise. What they care about is that he made himself a front page news story.
Your company probably spends a lot of time talking about how they value and respect their workforce as individuals. Don't believe them; they're lying. Unless you're very high up in the company, you're just a cog, and if a cog ever starts attracting attention to itself for any reason, it's probably going to get replaced.
His firing, at least on the surface, seems to run afoul of federal and state law.
How so? He's not a member of any protected class. None of us are privy to any contractual terms of employment. It seems reasonable to assume he was an at-will employee (which most in the US are).
Federal law doesn't permit even at-will employees from being fired for suggesting ways to improve working conditions. I don't see a way this memo doesn't qualify as that.
CA state law doesn't allow an employer to terminate somebody for not agreeing with their political views.
And, technically, he didn't make himself a story. He wrote an internal memo. Somebody leaked that. He just tried to express dissatisfaction and provide solutions.
This.
The corporation doesn't care why he's front page news. The corporation doesn't how he became front page news. They only care that he is front page news.
Yes, but if I've read my company's policies correctly, they should only be able fire him for just cause if he publicized it himself. I don't think they'd survive a lawsuit against them.
WTF, this isn't France! (thank god) At-will employment is the norm in the US. Barring some sort of special contractual language, they can legally fire him for any reason that isn't specifically prohibited by law. They may get dinged on their payroll taxes if he files for unemployment compensation, but that's the extent of it.
That doesn't justify it from a moral or PR standpoint, but I don't see how he could hope to prevail in a lawsuit.

1) Federal law doesn't allow companies, even non-union ones, to fire people for discussing measures to improve working conditions. His memo was clearly and explicitly a means to discuss to improve the working conditions and to improve diversity in a manner that would ACTUALLY improve it. I may think diversity is bullshit, but Google claims to support it.
2) CA State law doesn't permit termination for expressing differing political views
To paraphrase Bill Cosby, "because corporations are not interested in justice, they want QUIET!"
So, the mtrueman of skirting the actual point to rationalize them being douchebags to their employee.
And distributing an unsolicited memo criticizing his superiors' policies doesn't exactly help.
These companies love to make a big deal about how open to criticism the management is.
Did he distribute it any manner that violated Google's rules?
Seems like he followed the usual protocols.
...now, the Google execs who openly discussed black lists for employees they refuse to work with might have concerns in the future. Funny how the only apparent bad part about McCarthyism is that the Left wasn't in total control of it.
Bitches be crazy,it is known.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai addresses the now-infamous "diversity manifesto" from an employee whom the company fired yesterday.
So did xhi say what xhi *thought* about the memo, or how xhi *felt* about the memo?
See, the problematic thing about the memo was that it was mansplaining things - you see a problem, you develop a solution to fix the problem. That's how men do things. Women see a problem, they form a group to discuss their feelings about the problem. It irritates the shit out of them when they want to discuss their feelings with a man and that man immediately suggests a way to fix the problem when fixing things isn't what the conversation's all about. Why can't men understand this basic fact, that women don't want to fix things, they just want to bitch about things that need fixing?
It's Not About the Nail
LOL: Dennis Espinoza 1 year ago
A woman was drowning. I look at her from the dock and said, "I know you do not want me to "fix" your situation. I want you to know that I know what your feeling, the desperation, the fear, you see I almost drowned, so I can relate, I sympathize and have compassion for you. I am sorry this is happening to you. The woman died, but I feel very good that I provided her with the comfort of my sympathy and compassion and did not upset her by "fixing" her situation.
Women having to call out sick because of their reaction to the memorandum kind of demonstrates that there are certain jobs they really aren't that comfortable doing.
And his firing shows that open discussion of ideas isn't approved of in a company that owns basically all of your personal info.
They want the privileges of adults coupled with the accountability of children.
But then again, who doesn't?
"How do you write women so well?"
"First I think of a man, then I take away reason and accountability"
It irritates the shit out of them when they want to discuss their feelings with a man and that man immediately suggests a way to fix the problem when fixing things isn't what the conversation's all about.
My wife does this all the time.
I don't want suggestions, I want to talk about how I feel.
My POV is lets spend that time trying to diagnose and resolve whatever the issue is and then move on.
"Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for."
We don't want suggestions because most of the time we already know what we need to do or what the alternatives to just putting up with it are. We really just want to vent at how shitty the situation/solution is.

Case in point:
We always ask why we don't see women in top leadership positions, but we never ask why we see so many men in these jobs. These positions often require long, stressful hours that may not be worth it if you want a balanced and fulfilling life.
Status is the primary metric that men are judged on [4], pushing many men into these higher paying, less satisfying jobs for the status that they entail. Note, the same forces that lead men into high pay/high stress jobs in tech and leadership cause men to take undesirable and dangerous jobs like coal mining, garbage collection, and firefighting, and suffer 93% of work-related deaths.
OMG. Enough with you're hate-facts! I'm so triggered! **faints** ///sjw
but we never ask why we see so many men in these jobs. These positions often require long, stressful hours that may not be worth it if you want a balanced and fulfilling life.
Also, it should be obvious but it apparently needs to be pointed out that most men do not have leadership positions. Most people are not obsessively ambitious workaholics, period.
I wish all people could stop fetishising leaders period. Vast majority of the time management positions are normal work just like everything else.
Most people are not obsessively ambitious workaholics, period.
This describes me. I do enough. I try to get some ot but I can't stand being at the office much more than 40-45 hours a week, and I don't really want to be in management in my industry. And I'm a cis-white-male patriarch.
There is a reason almost every senior director and VP I know is either a childless woman or a man with a stay-at-home wife. Until that fact is acknowledged, companies will never achieve gender diversity in leadership. But, the truth is, they don't really want it because that means less productivity - it's just a thing they like to say along with 'work/life balance'.
And tech is one of the worst overall (along with lawyer and surgeon) - long hours, swing shifts, on-call support, agenda-driven deadlines, projects built according to some non-tech guys promises and not what can actually be done...

Spike Lee promotes rally for Colin Kaepernick at NFL headquarters
Social justice: rallying to support a millionaire. In reality, if his talent outweighed his baggage, a few teams would gladly hand him a contract, but he is just not that good anymore.
Saw this this morning:
"However, some sources are now saying that Kaepernick actually turned down a team's offer in order to incite a racially driven media backlash that would yield the controversial quarterback more money.
A source to the Daily Caller, "claims Kaep himself has turned down at least one contract in the hopes of stirring up a media frenzy that eventually leads to a more lucrative deal for the 27-year-old vet.
"Kaepernick allegedly doesn't want to make "backup money" and specifically instructed his representative team not to sign one contract offered at the league's minimum rate of $900,000 per year for a seventh-year player."
The sports "media", honestly, is ecstatic to be used for "justice".
No overpriced contracts for mediocre quarterbacks, no peace!
Well, that's an interesting twist on stars' usual stamping their feet and complaining how "unhappy" they are.
With Kaepernick's story being the biggest of the NFL offseason
Due in no small part to concern-troll sportsball "journalists"--most people, on the other hand, only give a damn about their personal team.
In reality, if his talent outweighed his baggage, a few teams would gladly hand him a contract, but he is just not that good anymore.
Exactly. LeBron's one of the biggest SJW twerps in sports, but he gets away with it because he's the best player in basketball. Kaepernick is a marginal starter at best whose talent isn't enough to offset the circus that would accompany him. Personally, I don't have an issue with his protests, but no team owner would pick him up and risk alienating a large portion of their fanbase who see Kaepernick as nothing more than a race hustler.
no team owner would pick him up and risk alienating a large portion of their fanbase who see Kaepernick as nothing more than a race hustler.
If they believe he hurt their ratings - which I really find hard to believe, but that has been repeated so much I am sure enough people think it's true - then they shouldn't give him a contract.
To me it is really simple: how much drama is a backup quarterback worth? Answer: not a lot.
Seriously. Pro sports is top-heavy with men of questionable character and we're supposed to believe that this guy is being singled out for... what exactly?
I believe that's the point. There are many shitty people such as Vick who still play. While this guy is out even though his big sin was kneeling during the pledge.
Also, people's reactions to him we're ridiculous, but my guess is the biggest issue is he's not that good.
"my guess is the biggest issue is he's not that good."
You're entirely too kind. He stinks.
IDGAF about sportsball.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only guy in the country who really doesn't give a rats ass what happens to that sportsball clown.
-jcr
I would agree except for the fact that 1) I probably wouldn't recognize him if he was sitting next to me on a 5 to 6 hour plane ride and 2) I don't live in the US so you might just be the only one there...
Kaepernick had lost his job as the 49ers starting QB prior to his kneeling shenanigans. It appeared to me he was simply sulking and hit upon a political excuse for his actions almost by accident.
He was never any good. Harbaugh made him look good. His arm is garbage, and he can't read the field. The best you can do with him is a moving pocket into quick flats and screens.
And I don't begrudge him his political views, and right to express them, in the slightest. Obviously the NFL has a the same right not to employ him, I just think it's a totally invented controversy - I think the whole brouhaha over him not standing for the anthem is bullshit jingoism, and base hypocrisy.
But he's still a seriously shitty pro QB.
Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo said North Korea's nuclear bomb talk is no threat and the island is ready to defend itself.
Pacific war redux!
Heck, it seems painfully obvious that he is only doing this in hopes that a couple percent of the US mainland population end up realizing (via Google) that Guam not only exists but is part of the United States of America.
"It's idiotic to say a congressman's hijab painting violates the separation of church and state," writes Kat Timpf.
She's right, but imagine for just a moment that some idiot did a painting of the Statue of Liberty instead wearing say a Ku Klux Klan sheet or a Crusader's suit of armor, and that someone like Louie Gohmert was displaying something like that in his office. The Obamafags would all be screaming bloody murder and it would be the biggest story in the JournoList, with all of them calling for his impeachment.
But a hijab is just fine though, because as everyone knows, Islam is the "Religion of Peace".
I don't understand your point.
A hijab is totally like a klan robe and hood. Indistinguishable, really.
Klan robes are white, you racist.
Hijabs are black.
You're the racist one here. I don't even see color.
Klan robes are all different colors. It's a veritable rainbow of inclusion.
Sex, Politics, Meth and Death in West Hollywood

I feel like I don't see drug usage fetishism that much. Usually have to go to particularly dark recesses of the web to find that stuff.
Good scuba diving in Guam. Fat Boy Kim`s life is not worth as much as that.
I'd like to see North Korea attack Guam, that should be funny. Do they have any idea how many US military bases are on that island?
Aren't you worried that a North Korean attack on Guam might cause the island to flip over?
That would be bad for them, even more military bases on the other side, except everyone down there is also a crab person.
"Guam" is Chamorro for "canoe".
That's the beauty of Guam, when one side is a radioactive wasteland, just flip it over and carry on.
Yes, it was actually Moroccan slave traders. Or was it Magadascan slave traders?
He said that the manifesto violated their policy of inclusiveness as it made people feel threatened because of their gender, and you know how sensitive (wink, wink!) those people can be.

Largest functional brain imaging study to date identifies specific brain differences between women and men, according to a new report in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease
See Science Daily web site summary article "Women have more active brains than men" for some statistical / scientific brain-scan results for some male-female differences in the brain. They are there, and they are real. Why are there so-so many more men in jail for violent crimes than there are women? A 1,400% difference, says this article! Can anyone tell me, with a straight face, that this (men v/s women jailed) is strictly an environmental, social, cultural thing, and has nothing to do with biology or genetics? Come now! If a significant percentage of people really believed that, then there should be a huge hue and cry to release more men from jail, and jail more females, till it is all equal! If we really-really believe that a proper role of Government Almighty is to "make everyone be equal", that is?
One thing I'd would be interested to see as a follow on: having identified biological differences between male and female brains, do the brains of transgendered people match their genetic sex, their psychological gender, or some mix of the two?
I believe the answer to that is yes.
Would you do that study before or after hormone treatment?
One thing I'd would be interested to see as a follow on: having identified biological differences between male and female brains, do the brains of transgendered people match their genetic sex, their psychological gender, or some mix of the two?
Even without the SPECT data (sex/gender differences in brains manifest in the morphology) it's known that the answer is that their genetic sex and their psychological gender match up better than their conceptualized gender. Not only is it kinda the point, you can/they do witness shifts first hand as the result of hormone treatment.
As a libertarian I am 100% for jailing more women regardless of brain activity.
That is one way to increase the percentage of libertarians in the voting population
Feminists will be out in force, no doubt, demanding that the author of this study be fired for saying men are more likely than be incarcerated for innate differences.
Oh wait. Feminists are fine with innate differences as long as they implying are inferior in some way? Interesting.
Government Almighty is breathing heavily down Google's neck, about male-female pay disparities, keep that in mind... NOT firing the wrong-thinker might make Google "look bad" to Government Almighty ... Gotta keep that in mind...
Meanwhile, from a 1983, 1984 timeframe, when % of women getting degrees in software was about 33%, it has by now come crashing down to 20% ... If Government Almighty targets 50% of women being software whizzes (and software managers) in corporate America, instead of the circa 20% who are bothering to get degrees in this, these days, I hope Government Almighty gets shit upon, really, really, REALLY badly... Like, overthrown at the ballot box, best case...
Garbage collection is a VERY dangerous and stressful job! Mostly men, as I have seen... WHERE is the clamor for more female garbage collectors?!?!
Garbage collection is a VERY dangerous and stressful job! Mostly men, as I have seen... WHERE is the clamor for more female garbage collectors?!?!
Also, why are women so bad at freeing malloc()s? 🙂
Both of us should be ashamed of ourselves. We need to do more to break stereotypes of libertarians all being fucking software engineers.
I don't want more garbage collectors female or otherwise. I do my memory management myself.
