President Donald Trump is defending his "absolute right" to share "facts…pertaining to terrorism and airline security" with Russia.

  • "President Trump appeared to acknowledge Tuesday that he revealed highly classified information to Russia — a stunning confirmation of a Washington Post story and a move that contradicted his own White House team after it scrambled to deny the report."
  • Turskish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is meeting today with President Trump.
  • According to South Korean officials, North Korea's missile program is "progressing faster than expected."
  • Ford is reportedly planning to cut 10 percent of its global workforce.
  • Sen. Rand Paul says Attorney General Jeff Sessions "will accentuate the injustice in our criminal justice system" through his plan to seek mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenders. "We should be treating our nation's drug epidemic for what it is -- a public health crisis, not an excuse to send people to prison and turn a mistake into a tragedy," Paul says.

President Donald Trump is defending his "absolute right" to share "facts...pertaining to terrorism and airline security" with Russia.

That intel was too huge not to share. You're lucky he didn't tweet it.

    1. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

      Hello.

"Ford is reportedly planning to cut 10 percent of its global workforce."

But maintains a healthy 5% dividend per share!

      1. Fascist loofa-faced shitgibbon   8 years ago

0 fucks given. Private company managing its resources. Or is staffing at large companies supposed to remain constant over the decades, just like the ideal global temperature should?

        1. CatoTheChipper   8 years ago

The reason the stock has a 5% dividend is because the share price is so low.

Its paltry 15 cent dividend is half of what it was in 2000.

    2. DanO.   8 years ago

THOSE SECRETS SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF THE PRESIDENT!!

    3. Conchfritters   8 years ago

If this intel compromises any of our Al Nusra Front allies over there, there will be hell to pay.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Hey! We allied with the commies in WW2 and we played everything on the up and up!

        1. RussianPrimeMinister   8 years ago

While we're at it, let's hunt for Ollie North's gold!

    4. Ron   8 years ago

interestingly enough it wasn't much of a secret anyway since it was all over the news not to long ago about the U.S. limiting laptops etc onboard planes form the Middle East and parts of Europe.

      thats some classified info there

      1. Conchfritters   8 years ago

Exactly - - this was already in the news. People are ticked off because Trump gave them intel that was already known? Why is it dangerous for Russia to learn of laptop commercial plane plots? Haven't the terrorists already targeted Russian commercial jetliners? It seems like the media collectively just graduated from a modern day liberal arts school where there is perpetual angst and outrage at, well, everything.

        1. RussianPrimeMinister   8 years ago

          Wait, they didn't?

    5. BYODB   8 years ago

Remember when Obama was sharing with Russia all the time, and the big red 'reset button, and the fact the state department OK'ed American Uranium to end up in Russian hands during the last administration?

That was definitely not collusion then, but Russia became an enemy again the literal second Hillary said they were and Trump didn't listen to her or her surrogates! Amazing!

Not that he's a great guy, but lord could the criticisms of Trump assume any more damage to their viewers brain? I guess they just assume that no one was paying attention for the last 8 years. After all, they weren't.

Honest question, should Trump declare war on Russia to prove he isn't a Russian stooge? After all, nothing short of that could 'prove' it in many people's minds since how can you prove the absence of something. Hell, there would still be people claiming he's a Russian stooge as the nukes fall.

  2. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

"President Trump appeared to acknowledge Tuesday that he revealed highly classified information to Russia ? a stunning confirmation of a Washington Post story and a move that contradicted his own White House team after it scrambled to deny the report."

He's realized the impotence of his opposition.

  3. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Turskish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is meeting today with President Trump.

Oh, what juicy tidbits await Erdogan.

    1. MarkLastname   8 years ago

I hear Donald plans to share with him the plot of the next Grisham novel - that Grisham hasn't even finished yet!!!

    2. RussianPrimeMinister   8 years ago

Does Trump strike you guys as a swinger? Along the lines of "Welcome, Mr. Ambassador! Please, fuck my wife and then we'll get down to business."

  4. Domestic Dissident   8 years ago

Not surprisingly, Seth Rich's family hired a private investigator after his assassination at the hands of Hildog's hillbilly hitmen, and it appears that he was in contact with Wikileaks after all.

    1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

Hildog's Hillbilly Hitmen would be just an okay name for a band.

      1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

A mysterious pickup truck with Arkansas plates and six dogs in the back was seen in the neighborhood that evening. "Yeeeehaw!" the driver yelled.

        1. CatoTheChipper   8 years ago

Was it an El Camino pickup with the bed lined with astroturf?

          1. Conchfritters   8 years ago

A pouch of Beechnut was found at the scene, so, yes.

        #ThroatTheThug

        1. Fascist loofa-faced shitgibbon   8 years ago

Dano. Do you happen to know what info Trump shared with the Russkies? Assuming you can answer question #1, can you also give an detailed analysis of whether or not sharing said info is detrimental to the USA foreign policy goals or beneficial?

        2. Red Rocks Baiting n Inciting   8 years ago

So, nothing in the tweet was inaccurate?

        3. Domestic Dissident   8 years ago

Out of curiosity, what does "Throat The Thug" mean exactly?

          1. Entropy Drehmaschine Void   8 years ago

It's what DanO. always exclaims just before he goes to his bunk to autofellate.

            1. Domestic Dissident   8 years ago

Weigel may be a total fucking idiot, but he's smart enough not to ever answer that question.

He should still be careful though, because you never know who the next Preet Bahara - type prosecutorial figure might be out there monitoring Reason who may decide he wants to interpret something as a legitimate threat and threaten Reason with subpoeanas and legal action again.

              1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

So DanO is Weigel too, Mikey?

            2. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Well, good for him. I wish I could pull autofellatio off. Even if I then chose not to do it, it is still a neat party trick.

      2. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

It's pretty simple, Red: Trump is bad, therefore Hillary must have been good. Do u even prog bro

        1. DanO.   8 years ago

How about both are bad, with Trump taking the lead and running away with it? Logic isn't your strong suit, so I'll try to help you understand: When somebody criticizes General Cheeto, it doesn't necessarily mean that he is a fan of Hitlery. Either-or is a partisan construct. But if you can find one instance, anywhere, of me praising Clinton, please share it with the class. Hope this helps!

          1. Ecoli   8 years ago

Having said all of that, though, you ARE a Hillary ho, right?

Ford is reportedly planning to cut 10 percent of its global workforce.

Trump will make sure that cut comes from Mexico's share.

    1. DanO.   8 years ago

When Mexico sends its cars, they're not sending their best. They're sending cars that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with them. They're bringing drug cars. They're bringing crime cars. They're bringing rape cars.

      1. Entropy Drehmaschine Void   8 years ago

When DanO. sends his comments, he's not sending his best. He's sending comments that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with him. They're bringing Prog comments. They're bringing 'Tard comments. They're bringing autofellatio comments.

"We should be treating our nation's drug epidemic for what it is -- a public health crisis, not an excuse to send people to prison and turn a mistake into a tragedy," Paul says.

So what Dr. Paul is saying is that we should use law enforcement to treat illness? That's a slippery slope, Senator. I like your thinking!

    1. steve walsh   8 years ago

I see how you can read it that way, but think it a mistake to do so. My reading is that he wants to get law enforcement out of the drug epidemic business and transfer responsibility for that to healthcare.

My reading of Session's position is that he is insisting that the law, as it is, be enforced. Not an unreasonable position to me.

Senator Paul, rather than whining about enforcing the law, should spend his energy and political capital, such as it is, on changing the law. First step is to convince everyone to agree on the categorization of "drug epidemic", is it a public health or law enforcement issue?

      1. Gene   8 years ago

I just wish we'd all stop using hyperbole like drug epidemic

        1. Rhywun   8 years ago

^This. Drug use is neither of those things.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

No way. He's suggesting that law enforcement battering rams are the panacea to all of our health crises and that we should use them for everything from drug addiction to ebola.

        1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

If you batter someone to death into a fine enough mist that will kill the ebola I am sure.

      1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

HBO had an old cast of W's head sitting around for some reason, and the producers of Game of Thrones thought it would be funny to give it a wig and put it on a spike on top of the Red Keep at the end of Season 1. It caused a minor kerfuffle that was ultimately overshadowed by everyone's trauma over Ned Stark's execution.

a move that contradicted his own White House team after it scrambled to deny the report

Kinda like when he fired Comey with a letter claiming it was by the recommendation of the AG's office and all his spokespeople rushed out to assure reporters that this couldn't possibly have anything to do with the Russia thing and Trump reverse-engineering an excuse as this was not Trump's decision but a decision of the AG's office - and then Trump went out on the shows and told everybody that he had already decided to fire Comey before he was given any advice from the AG's office, directly contradicting what his spokespeople had just got done saying? Yeah, Trump had a nasty habit of flip-flopping on his positions during the campaign without so much as a head's-up to his spokespeople, leaving them caught with their pants down and their ass hanging out. And you know what? Nobody quit over that, they all took the abuse and grinned like little shit-eating monkeys.

      This.

It's not a matter of "rights", but he has the exact same authority with classified information any other president does, under the relevant law (which is all Executive Orders, since AFAIK "classification" is a pure relic of the Executive branch at this level).

      And that authority is plenary.

(It may or may not have been a good idea to tell Russians whatever he did*, but it's plainly within the President's normal powers.

(* Comments above and elsewhere make this seem - quelle surprise! like the usual media freakout over nothing-much, but we can't know for sure, since "unnamed sources" aren't subject to questioning by us...)

Meh I wasn't too mad about it. It was basically a big "FUCK YOU" to the Democrats who spent the entire time trying to cast Sessions as an evil racist KKK member. Instead of focusing on problems they had with his policies, they just screamed "RACIST! RACIST! RACIST!", which was incredibly unfair and dishonest, no matter how much I dislike Sessions.

This is such a stupid justification. Supporting an awful nominee that you disagree with on a bunch of issues central to their job because you don't like some of the criticisms coming from other opponents of his is ridiculous. Same with "oh he would have been confirmed anyways." By that logic he might as well have voted for any terrible Obama nominee who was going to be confirmed anyways and who was subject to dumb criticism from (some) Republicans.

          1. chemjeff   8 years ago

And yet, this is where we are.

When the New Left began turning politics into a zero-sum game in the late 60s with their religious-like devotion to their political ideology, this was inevitable.

It's not an accident that the country has become more partisan as the Boomers and Gen-Xers increased their control on the country's political and cultural institutions.

Florida Deputy Masturbates, Sleeps and Sexts On-Duty [Only] Verbally Reprimanded Until Video Surfaces

A Florida deputy who spent almost a year sending videos of himself masturbating to a woman he met online ended up resigning when the woman filed a complaint against him.
But Vera O'Reilly only filed a complaint against Gulf County sheriff's deputy Brian Smith after he had purchased an airline ticket to visit her in Canada. And Smith only resigned after O'Reilly's initial complaints to the department went ignored and she turned to a retired cop turned private investigator who publicized the video showing Smith masturbating.

Why, oh why, is it always Florida?

2 weeks old, but still nut-punchy! --> Body Cam Footage Shows Jordan Edwards Shot and Killed in Car Driving Away from Police

Edwards' brother said he did not realize his little brother had been shot until after seeing smoke coming out of his head about a block away. That was when he pulled over and asked police for help, apparently thinking somebody other than police shot his brother.

According to South Korean officials, North Korea's missile program is "progressing faster than expected."

I remember 8 years ago when they blew up their first nuke... they've come so far -- never forget that we let them.
