House Speaker Paul Ryan's health care repeal-and-replace bill will not be voted on.
Phew, just in time. The president almost suffered his first ever political loss.
Hello.
Don't you work?
THIS IS WORK.
I'll say.
Keep fist on his toes.
The diabeetus took my toes!
Not mine...yet. I had a typo or I would've gotten ya. *bows out while looking at opponent*
Some folk'll never lose a toe, but then again, some folk'll.

Peter Suderman explains why the bill died.
The GOP lied.
There's no way Ryan can stay as leader. Didn't he not want the job anyways? Would love to see Amash up there, but that'll never happen.
What makes you think Amash would do any better?
Because he's just better in general.
I dare them to vote on a straight up repeal.
Won't get enough votes. I think there were 4 republicans who basically pledged not to vote for a full repeal already.
Contrary to what the numbers say, on some issues the Republican do not really have a majority in the senate.
It will work.
Donald J. Trump
? @realDonaldTrump
I did NOT say repeal and replace. I said there's pee on my face. BIG DIFFERENCE.
4:26 PM - 24 Mar 2017
Eh, the pee stuff is almost as unfunny as "Drumph". The guys a clown, the jokes write themselves, c'mon man.
When did Chuck Berry obtain tweeting from the grave capability?
This Craft Beer is Made With Recycled Toilet Water
Uhhh...yay science?
That beer looks like piss.
I just stick to them trusty German beers for now.
Full Circle Pale Ale
In other words, it's not like containing toilet water will make it any grosser.
What kind of beer do you like? Miller High Life?
So it has an excuse if it tastes like piss.
People are so weird with the things they get all squeamish about.
All the water on this planet has been absorbed and peed out multiple times over the course of this planet's history.
This.
Go on...
Not comet water.
There's perfume, cologne and toilet water. Different strengths.
This was actually one of the original purposes of beer and alcoholic bevs in general -- to make contaminated water drinkable.
Ranch dressing fountains are a thing. Here's how to get one?
Simple Mikey is getting one of those installed in his bathroom.
The ranch dressing bidet?
Better
And everyone knows that parmesan and cracked pepper is the superior salad dressing. I still don't even know what flavor "ranch" is supposed to be.
"You do not have some human right, some abstract thing given to you by God or by the world or something like that. You're part of a community and that's where you gain your meaning or your rights."
Fuck off, slaver.
That's so far right it's left!
Why, it's almost as if the conventional notion of a left-right political spectrum is abject bullshit!
It's communitarians all the way down.
I'll have you know that I am single-handedly the only reason anyone has heard of Richard Spencer. You're welcome.
From a certain point of view I can understand why a person might think that. After you remove the concept of God from natural rights, the whole thing kind of falls apart as a philosophical concept. If you leave the God part in, it still carries the same weight it always did. *shrug*
Just food for thought. I think about this subject a lot as a mental exercise. Still don't have any perfect answers though, probably because there are none.
I figure the natural rights thing is fine whether you believe in God or not. But from the practical side, I figure that we are all punished individually for crimes, collective punishment is a war crime, and anyone who suggested throwing an entire family in jail because the husband killed his neighbor would be laughed at by all political sides.
If we're punished individually, then we are individuals all the way.
Then throw in individual mandates for Obamacare, individual paychecks, individual everything, and the case for collective rights, or rights "granted" by a community, is just so much hogwash.
Tony is Richard Spencer. Mind. Blown.
There's a Section of Yellowstone Where You Can Get Away with Murder
Hey Fist, wanna visit Yellowstone together this summer?
That goes both ways, you know.
That's a buddy vacation movie I would watch.
5 minute mark: Crusty discovers his chinchilla roommate is a stowaway in his luggage, which is a discarded pet carrier. The chinchilla his behind all the old issues of Hustler Crusty insisted on bringing.
10 minute mark: the first argument breaks out when Fist insists on being the first to use the bathroom every time.
15 minute mark: A long hour of silence follows Crusty's reveal that he has once been to Philadelphia, and that he liked it.
20 minute mark: the chinchilla eats all of Fist's cash. Crusty didn't bring any money, but offers to try his luck working the streets.
I don't like the part about Fist going both ways. IT IS NOT THAT KIND OF TRIP.
That's not up to you.
"10 minute mark: the first argument breaks out when Fist insists on being the first to use the bathroom every time."
12 minute mark: Fist murders Rufus for constantly poking his head into the loo and saying "hello".
In a fit of revenge, Trump boarded Air Force One for Palm Beach and several rounds of golf.
Shouldn't that make you happy?
How much damage can he do to the country from the back 9?
Clearly you haven't seen what his short game looks like.

growing up in the New York art world, visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art every Sunday, she just automatically equated naked bodies with art.
Lena Dunham nude would definitely qualify as abstract, possibly 'brutalist' style of art.
I thought brutalist means stripped to the essentials of form and function.
Lol, ok, carry on.
"Nicole, Kate, that was wonderful!"
Lena please put your clothes on."

The real reason the healthcare bill failed.
Is DePaul University the worst campus for free speech in the country?
That's what happens when you have a commie pope, you can't chalk "abortion is murder" at a Catholic university.
If I don't click on the link, I'm going to have to say commenter Tony. Because he's said this many times on these boards.
So, people born in China or North Korea have no right to anything better.
Sue DePaul for false advertising and get your tuition back.

How does it feel to be dumber than Richard Spencer?
Or are you really saying that rights are things Sky Grandpa invented and gave us as a gift sometime in the last 1000 years?
Breaking news: Tony agrees with Richard Spencer. Shocked: no one.
So if he said the sky is blue you would be forced to disagree, or are you wasting everyone's time with idiocy?
Why not make my day and answer my question.
Re: Tony,
Plants can't feel, so don't bother asking.
I stand corrected ? there IS someone dumber (? ? ?) than Richard Spencer.
So there you have it, Tony agree's with the alt-right.
Unfortunately, you've managed to jump the shark and give away the fact that you don't believe any of what you say. Many already knew, but this should enlighten everyone.
The idea that rights are useful social constructs and not the arbitrary declarations of a bearded grandpa in the sky is not exclusive to neonazis. How does it feel to be dumber than neonazis?
Re: Tony,
I do agree that the idea that rights are mere social constructs is not something only Neo-nazis hold.
Here is my own comment from above:
It will be .... interesting ... seeing you try to claim otherwise.
Everything we ever talk about here is about community. Politics is about how humans interact with each other. The fantasy is the notion that people are atomistic beings who, apart from maybe the Unabomber, are utterly dependent on each other, and furthermore the very concept of rights is meaningless except in the context of human interaction.
Next time you (an individual) can try a little harder to actually refute what you say is false.
Or maybe you (as an individual) can't. But it will be up to you, as an individual, not some figment of a community's imagination.
Or, to quote you yourself, as an individual:
Politics is about how individual humans interact with each other.
No one is saying that humans aren't interdependent, but each human in the group is still an individual no matter what and must be treated as such.
No one in the world is as dumb as a morally indignant nihilist, which is you, Tony.
Rape, murder, and genocide can be useful cultural practices. Hell, if we're going to be strictly utilitarian then any institution that satisfies a person's subjective notions of utility is justified.
The logical conclusion of your beliefs about rights reduces to disagreement about subjective value systems. And you waste all this time getting upset that republicans violate rules you don't think exist.
That's the problem with utilitarianism: it ultimately reduces to subjective personal preference regarding what is 'useful,' (and plenty of people find murdering people they don't like to be useful and enjoyable).
And so we end up with bitchy little nihilists like you who, from their own logic, may as well be whining about people not liking their favorite flavor of ice cream. It's the classic type of logical inconsistency one sees in idiots who fancy themselves philosophical.
If rights are bestowed by the state then why is it such a big deal for the state to ban abortion?
Because it would cause harm to millions of women. You can say you should have any right you want, and make your case to society. You people want to claim that your specific set of policy preferences is ordained by natural law, which is self-serving horsecrap of the highest order.
But the state would be determining what rights they have so what does it matter if it does harm. The state can say they dont have a right to not be harmed
" You can say you should..."
Why? Why should you?
Because of some objective moral law? Oh, ok. If not, then what? Utility? Again, there are plenty of instances where the mass murder of innocents is quite useful to someone.
*Everyone*, Tony, absolutely everyone (other than disinterested sociopaths) claim that their specific set of policy preferences are ordained by natural law; by logic, by morality.
Either your policy preferences are morally superior, logically superior toward the achievement of an agreed upon end, or they're just matters of taste, and we may as well be debating what the best way to prepare lamb is.
Guys, you totally need to come up with a 'Tony or Richard Spencer' quote guessing game.
You're saying that people born into authoritarian hell holes are not having their rights violated because they don't have a claim to anything better?
So much for El Trumpo's much vaunted negotiating skills.
Hitler! Uh, Mao! No, uh, Lenin! No, wait ? Richard Spencer!
By the way, that creepy statement is in the same vein as that other creepy statement "There are those who think the Free Market is a god!"
Speaker Paul Ryan's health care repeal-and-replace bill will not be voted on.
Awww man. I was really looking forward to the $2,100 worth of tax breaks that I would have gotten from Trumpian rubes. I was a socialist, but ever since idiots seemingly want to give me money because they want the government off their law I've begun to see the glory of taking money from people with decidedly slapstick ideas about what the government does. Too bad for me, I guess.
I wonder if even Trump's idiot supporters are going to fall for "collapse and replace." Republicans control all of government.
Also, "It's Democrats' fault we couldn't repeal their signature achievement of the last decade for no reason other than mean-spirited partisanship!" I LOLed at that one.
Not one Democrat would go along, Tony. Those meanies.
I guess now the Democrats are the Party of No! Mindless obstructionists! They're holding the country hostage!
You're kind of right that collapse and replace may backfire on them. Once healthcare costs get so much higher in the market than Medicaid and Medicare due to Obamacare arbitrarily undervaluing care in Medicaid and Medicare either providers will start avoiding Medicaid/Medicare patients like the plague, closing shop, or jacking up prices for everyone else absent a bailout.
Premiums will skyrocket, quality of care for Medicare/Medicaid will fall, and/or the budget will get hit by the necessary bailout. And you and all the other morons will blame the incumbent Republicans rather than Obama because they failed to fix his unsustainable law.
Tony and Gleemore care about team blue period. All that matters is that their team wins.
It amazes me how they talk out of both sides of their mouth....the ACA is great! but the GOP owns it imploding!
Well it is. They need 60 votes
I want to thank the House Freedom Caucus, whose leading intellectuals want a health care plan where people with preexisting conditions can do us all a favor and die, for scuttling The Ryan/Trump plan, which was a sop to rich people and insurance companies. Thank you.
The Ryan/Trump plan, which was a sop to rich people and insurance companies. Thank you.
This is how Bernie Sanders supporters characterized Obamacare.
Hey now, Bernie was in charge of reforming the US's single-payer system known as the VA system. And after seeing what a success that was....ooops
I'm confused by the FIRE thing. FIRE has repeatedly justified not going after places like BYU, Liberty University, etc. on the grounds that as private religious universities they obviously can't be judged on the same basis as secular schools.
It's not clear to me why Catholic DePaul University doesn't get the same pass.
Ostensibly because BYU and Liberty U do not get government funding. Albeit it seems BYU does. So does Liberty, in one form or another.
Perhaps it has to do with DePaul censoring speech of a secular manner. Even Liberty University has speakers that go against their views (Sanders and Trump both were invited to speak there).
Because Jews.
This place seems to be a mere shell of it's once self.
After reading this echo chamber of a thread I'm begining to see why.
A thread of mutual masturbation by names once associated with being Reason trolls just doesn't carry the same cache this joint once put forth.

"You do not have some human right, some abstract thing given to you by God or by the world or something like that. You're part of a community and that's where you gain your meaning or your rights."
How is this supposed to be wrong? Can you seriously claim that people living in Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union or the myriad totalitarian societies or petty dictatorships before and after that had "human rights" in any meaningful sense?
That is a farcical belief. Outside of a political community that respects and enforces rights, the question of whether they exist is just as irrelevant as the question of how many angels can dance on a pinhead.
I tend to agree. It's one of those things that sounds wrong at first, but it actually fits my definition of rights. Rights don't exist outside of human brains. Now, I would add that your rights primarily exist in your head, so you need to articulate them to other people if you expect them to be respected. You also sometimes need to defend them verbally and physically for them to be respected by others. So, yes, your rights aren't given to you by a god or by nature and they don't exist outside the human mind.
This was taken out of context, and is shameless clickbait by RS, I'm sorry to say.
The context was a rant about abortion, not natural rights.
This is like the worst chat room ever.
