The Russian government has barred children under 16 from seeing the new version of Beauty and the Beast because it has a gay character. Russian law bars what it calls gay propaganda aimed at minors.

If they're worried about exposure to homosexuality, shouldn't they just preemptively ban them from EVERY musical?

    1. Dallas H.   8 years ago

(Spoken as a straight guy that loves (and performs in many) musicals).

      1. Radioactive   8 years ago

        yup, you're gay...

A movie theater in Alabama announced last week that it would not screen "Beauty and the Beast" because of the inclusion of a gay character. "If I can't sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me, then we have no business showing it," a statement on the theater's Facebook page read.

    What Would Jesus Boo?

    1. CooterBrown   8 years ago

What a jack ass. It's his theater and he can show whatever he wants, but if he's gonna stand by that logic he needs to only be running Veggie Tales, God's Not Dead, and God's Not Dead 2.

      1. Bubba Jones   8 years ago

        Maybe he is.

        1. Radioactive   8 years ago

or maybe he's in a persisted vegetative state?

    2. Mickey Rat   8 years ago

You have social signalung count Eric ing the social signaling of the director and actor, who are inordinately proud of msking the antagonist's toady gay.

  3. JeremyR   8 years ago

Well, it is gay propaganda aimed at minors.

However, if that bothers you, just don't go see it.

    1. Bubba Jones   8 years ago

You won't be able to make that decision unless someone first complains about it. Because you won't know to expect it.

  4. Trigger Hippie   8 years ago

"Russian law bars what it calls gay propaganda aimed at minors."

Then how do they explain their paratrooper's uniforms?

    1. Radioactive   8 years ago

are those the one's with the pink tutu's?

    2. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

      The coal industry.

      1. Inigo Montoya   8 years ago

I was thinking Fred Rogers, but all the other answers are good. Also, Hitler did, I believe.

Sesame Street welcomes Julia, a muppet with autism

In her debut episode, Julia will demonstrate some common characteristics. When Big Bird is introduced to her, she ignores him.

Confused, Big Bird thinks "that maybe she didn't like me". But the other muppets tell him: "She does things just a little differently."

When a group of children are playing tag, Julia starts jumping up and down with excitement.
Instead of rejecting Julia, the children create a new game in which they all jump around together.

Later, Julia creates her own blog.

  8. CooterBrown   8 years ago

Hmmm, having trouble coming up with a "In mother Russia" joke. Little help?

In Putin's Russia, state reaches around you.

  9. VG Zaytsev   8 years ago

Saudi Arabia almost banned Beauty and the Beast for having a gay character, but decide that it was redeemed by the positive portrayal of beastiality and old man - pubescent girl sex.

  10. Griffin3   8 years ago

In America, watching movie makes you gay.
In Soviet Russia, gay movie makes you watch.

  12. Inigo Montoya   8 years ago

The Russian culture ministry completely missed the fact that the character's name translates from French as "The Crazy One." It may be propaganda, but it doesn't seem very pro-gay.

  13. Stormy Dragon   8 years ago

The weird thing is the character in question is one of the villains and is portrayed as specifically participating in murders due to his attractions to one of the other villains.

To the extent that its propaganda, I'd argue it's actually anti-gay propaganda.

  14. Agammamon   8 years ago

If it has a gay character, how would you know? Do the gays go around with a special mark visible?

    Oh, wait - he's *camp* isn't he?

    1. Radioactive   8 years ago

the "visible" marks will be provided later, likely a cloth thing-a-ma-bob that can be pinned to the outer clothing...kinda like a star or something like that...

    2. Jgalt1975   8 years ago

I believe I saw an article saying that they changed a couple lines of one of the character's songs. (I've never seen either the animated or live action versions of the movie, but the people I've heard discussing it have said the character was actually pretty camp in the animated version too, such that the change for live action is more in the subtext-becomes-text category of things, rather than a major change.)
