In CPAC speech, President Trump continues war on the media.
Make CPAC great again.
I vote for Bacon as the new fist. He's quick, he's pithy and he gives me acknowledgment.
Nope, but I will keep him honest. His time-warping will be his handicap. *waves hands mystically while chanting "messicans, ass-sex and pot"*
It's just a jump to the left...
I acknowledged you this morning. You were just too impatient.
I acknowledged you this morning.
What am I, Patrick Swayze in Ghost?
Possibly?
🙂
Just playing pal. I don't do morning lynx. I don't even make it to work on time.
Republican legislators are trying to crack down on protesters in 17 states.
Is baton still the crack down weapon of choice?
Those lying GOP motherfuckers in our state claim that protestors will block emergency vehicles from responding but in every case I'VE SEEN the mob has let them through.
A protest will lose a lot of sympathizers and support by blocking a fire truck or ambalance.
but in every case I'VE SEEN the mob has let them through.
Anecdotes: they're data now!
SEEN as in WITNESSED.
Hence the emphasis.
Anecdotes should always carry some weight. You can't argue that they are not effective at times. Especially appeals to pathos -- I'm sure you've seen commercials with cute children drinking mud water in Africa, then a white man comes on screen as says, "donate money".
And sometimes "data" is the plural of "anecdote".
but not people who get fired for being late for work again?
A simple google search will provide you with the info you are lacking.
Is baton still the crack down weapon of choice?
Is an onion still the belt accessory of choice? All this and more in the next issue of Skullduggery.
Republican legislators are trying to crack down on protesters in 17 states.
So it's going to be a full pendulum swing is what you're telling me?
The pit *and* a pendulum. 8-(
Judge rules against San Diego State University in college rape case where accused student says he was wrongly punished.
He didn't know it was a tranny. Isn't that punishment enough?
In CPAC speech, President Trump continues war on the media.
Anyone else feel like the word "war" is getting devalued and over saturated like so many other words of the times?
getting?
Yeah, "war on media" is nothing compared to "war on poverty" or "war on fat". At least the "war on the media" is about an adversarial relationship of some sort.
I thought Jessie meant "getting" as an agreement of the statement to the point of "getting" isn't firm enough, its done got there. Could be wrong though.
That was my interpretation. It has already gotten. I was adding examples of even sillier uses of the word that have been around for a long time.
Fuck. Can't post. Totes agree with both. Last try.
So they've begun blocking the splitters. Good.
BUILD THE WALL. REASON FOR REASONERS.
This is just going to encourage black market commenting, Fist.
What like me stealing the comments for your third world websites and trumpeting them on Reason for my own profit and glory?
At least we won the war on inflation. Eventually.
Exactly. "War", what is is good for?
*it*
*** gets coffee***
Yes. Trump should appoint a language czar to look into this unprecedented attack.
Republican lawmakers introduce bills to curb protesting in at least 18 states
That crackdown cracks me up.
Republican lawmakers introduce bills to curb protesting in at least 18 states
The "Curb Your Protester Act of 2017"
Loitering = Stop 'N Chat
Given everything that Occupy Wall Street literally took dumps upon, it seems fair to require that those walking their protestors out on the street should have baggies to bring the poop home in...
Judge rules against San Diego State University in college rape case where accused student says he was wrongly punished.
If I unpacked this sentence correctly and without going to the link, it seems that maybe another case where a university is judge-slapped for rushing to judgment. Oh, hell, I just go to the link.
Several media outlets, including The New York Times, POLITICO, and CNN, were prohibited from attending a White House press briefing today.
GO PEDDLE YOUR FAKE NEWS SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Several media outlets, including The New York Times, POLITICO, and CNN, were prohibited from attending a White House press briefing today.
Owned. Seriously respect is earned, these institutions don't have eternal favor to do as they please, and this isn't limiting the freedom of the press -- they can still right a whiny article about be blocked at the gates. And other news installations that have been less inflammatory were able to go to the speech (or whatever) and report on it.
Yeah, no slippery slope there.
I don't much like the idea of the White House selecting what is and is not a press organization worthy of a briefing. Same with the Obama administration rejecting FOX News.
I don't much like the idea of the White House selecting what is and is not a press organization worthy of a briefing.
Bro, they do a fuck ton of this already, no? I mean what % of news organizations in America get the invite? Reason doesn't get a seat at the table. The Star Tribune (MN) I do not believe gets a seat at the table. I am just guessing here, I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
The strib is definitely not welcome at the table.
And that is MN's biggest news organization. I'm frankly a little peeved that CNN and NYT have such an ego that they think they are beyond reproach. That it may as well be by divine right that they have access to the president.
They need to ask for a seat at the table, and I assume they need to maintain that seat regularly.
They do that inherently, though. Reason, for example, is never invited . . .
I could have a youtube channel and be an investigative reporter, but I cant get an invite unless I've lost 40% of my viewership over 6 months like the big boys.
Has it asked? Does it have credentials to attend WH briefings?
Credentials have to be established by someone, people must be vetted to see if they possess such credentials, etc. etc.
Awwww, guess who isn't getting invited to the corespondent's dinner?
*** waves hand ***
Melania?
Does the president need the correspondent's dinner more than correspondent's dinner needs the president?
Awwww, guess who isn't getting invited to the corespondent's dinner?
Squirrelz!
Oh, they'll be there.
And you want to be my replacement.
You cannot be replaced. Only competed with.
That's what you're competing for.
Not true. I just don't want your power to go unchecked. *fiddles with second dial from left*
Read Slate Star Codex's Scott Alexander on "Some Groups of People Who May Not Deserve 100% of Our Scorn."
Haven't read it but do recommend it based off of other work from this author.
Just finished, and it's definitely worth the read. I even found myself nodding along to the part about Vox, until I waded into the comments section and found this counterargument . Which just confirms my suspicion that they prey on the most - to put it politely - intellectually vulnerable people and feed them unsupportable theories, which is pretty unethical, no matter how nice the author assures us that the people at the site may be.
I don't dislike Vox because it's so bad, I dislike it because it's often good.
I'd like to see those examples.
Hey, good to see you're still around, thought maybe you'd left with everyone else.
Anyway, prime example I saw being shared and liked a while back. Links to scientific studies and charts galore, perfect for all who fucking love science.
Scott does a good job of dumbing it down to Robbie's millennial reading level.
Judge rules against San Diego State University in college rape case where accused student says he was wrongly punished.
So the courts are going to be rape apologists in Trump's America, nobody saw that coming.... /s
Seems like either should have the advocate of their choice.
Pikachu, or Dylan Roof?
Depends on if the goal is to win or lose.
"Reporters from The Times, BuzzFeed News, CNN, The Los Angeles Times and Politico were not allowed to enter the West Wing office of the press secretary, Sean M. Spicer, for the scheduled briefing. Aides to Mr. Spicer only allowed in reporters from a handpicked group of news organizations that, the White House said, had been previously confirmed."
Should I Godwin here or no?
Permit me: You know who else had a press secretary named Sean?
If you have to ask. Sheesh, I'm not the boss of you.
Read Slate Star Codex's Scott Alexander on "Some Groups of People Who May Not Deserve 100% of Our Scorn."
Don't do it, people. Soave is just linking to it because of this:

Apparently, I feel the same about the 2nd amendment as you guys do about peaceable assembly. Meh.
Is this Gilmore or an imposter?
What could I do? American socialist has my handle.
I caught tail end of conversation yesterday. Sorry for your loss. Handle thieves should be drawn and quartered.
In my defense I never intended to pose as GlLMORE(TM) for more than a few hours. He got very upset and, ok, I genuinely felt bad.
You should apologize at the least then.
Did you see downthread? I'm not an asshole like american socialist.
I see.
Another step might be to change your name to something more attuned to you.
"Another step might be to change your name to something more attuned to you."
I think I've gone far enough. Plus, the real GILMORE would never had sullied his link to a Sylvester link. I'm celebrating drag queens and trannies everywhere.
Clearly you aren't a Prince fan or you woulda handled "The Poster Formally Known as..." whoever the hell you are.
It's Tulpa.
Tulpa might as well be the boogieman -- I've never even seen 'him' post.
Are you in the Twin Cities, HV-HV?
Yessir.
I don't think this is the real Gilmore -- there actually seems to be a very clear lack of insight and effort in his posts. Gilmore always struck me as a guy with his arguments in order and sources to back.
What could I do? American socialist has my handle.
I'm imagining this as a Face/Off sort of situation, with posters swapping faces with other to infiltrate other ideologies.
This is the episode of Hit and Run where a doppelg?nger of a regular shows up and the plucky band must figure out the original by asking questions only he or she would know.

I guess Milo truly is worthy of the 9th circle. 😛
Milo is more a Seventh Circle kind of guy.
I think I can hear a tiny violin playing a sorrowful song.
They are going to claim that it's the end of democracy and liberty that they are not invited by the president.
Of course, to many of us, it's more like the beginning of democracy and liberty...
I spent the time that I was banished from reason.com over at Breitbart.com, where I posed as a North Korean apparatchik obsessed with Donald Trump. I'm glad to be back with you guys as it is pretty bleak over there. I'd also like to apologize to Gilmore, the moderator and to reason.com. So sorry.
make your own name up.
What DOOMco said.
I did. It's taken. Sorry.
Amerikan Socialist?
Merken Social?
Murica Socializer?
Come on, don't be a dick any more than you have to. Trolling is fun, but handle theft is retarded. I said the same sentiment to the one that stole your name.
Comrade Questions?
I didnt steal it. He let it go
It's ok... you can have it. I've moved on. I'm not going to even threaten you with jail time.
Can you tell me again how much socialists should love Trump. I'm beginning to understand.
Socialists love authoritarians and that right boot doesn't taste much different than the left boot at the end of the day.
Also, Trump wants a strong executive to continue Obama's wars, has supported universal healthcare, paid family leave. Is about as pro-life as Obama was anti-gay marriage (read: said the right things to win the primary) at this point in his presidency, has supported gun control, has adopted Bernie Sanders' protectionism, and Bernie Sanders' immigration platform. He has a congress that doesn't like him very much and just nominated a judge that has promised to stand up to him.
If you can get past the pussy-grabbing talk, what's not to like?
How about 'No Imagination' or 'FAKE GILMORE. SAD!'
You could just shorten it to AMSOC, you know.
I kind of like GLEEMORE. Honest.
fuck you.
Why? What did I do?
You are a dumbass thanks for playing
Lol pay up shit head
Vowing to never comment here again while storming off in a sanctimonious huff does not qualify as "banished from reason.com".
No. it was a full on banishment. I never said I would never comment-- just that I was sick of the same arguments. I also don't remember anything about a huff-- except for when Gilmore threatened to have me put in jail. That was a little huffy.
So at the end of this, it seems to be making the case that the evidence for Russian hacking is superduper strong and irrefutable. Um...
In a certain light isn't that the truth? Every first world nation and hell even most third world nations, all have intelligence agencies, some more than one (17 for America), and they employ hundreds of thousands of people working 24/7. What do you think all those people do?
It's spy games all day everyday.
Yet the hacks that they're attributing to Russian intelligence have very little backing it up aside from a couple lines of code indicating a Cyrillic keyboard inputs. Secondly, the hacks are so baseline it's laughable to insist that it could be a state agent. Regarding the two hacks in question... 1) the DNC servers were notoriously unsecured and 2) John Podesta's password was...password.
The election could have just as easily have been "stolen" by Joe Blow in Dogdick Iowa. If that were shown to be the case, would people be arguing that Trump is the puppet of Joe Blow? Or that Iowa exerted undue influence in the election?
(okay so that last one is true for different reasons but still)
could only* be a state agent
No arguments with anything you said. My perspective is that even if the Russkies didn't "hack the election" what does it really matter, they are hacking something American right now assuredly. Russia is hacking America is a true statement so I cant get bent out of shape about the election hacks because -- Russia does hack America.
Of course why the technicality, or focusing on election hacks is important is because it allows for the narrative that Trump is or is not a puppet based on the validity of the hacking. To which I say as you would, that is stupid as all hell, Trump is many things but he not a Russkie puppet. Now he could be a Russkie cohort like HRC, but that's just profitable politics.
Actually I presented at least a couple of arguments there. But I don't see one here.
I don't see how this matters. PAkistan probably hacks us too, making the liklihood of them stealing the election just as plausible.
We're having a disconnect here.
I meant I agree and concede to the points you made above. I highly doubt the 'hacks' who are pushing the Russian intervention in the election narrative -- but I simultaneously acknowledge that Russia is hacking us every single day, to what end, to what extent, I know not.
I do not believe Trump is a foreign nation's puppet.
His energy policies should put that notion to bed
Sorry for the misread. Now that I look at it I'm not sure how I didn't read it correctly the first time. My apologies.
No apologies are necessary my friend, the dialogue has been rewarding.
That was the shittiest link ever
Thanks for these links, Robby. Keep up the g--

Sigh. I know the timing is a joke for you, but... you make it hard to love you.
If loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right. ???
Hey man, it's 4:30 somewhere... like in the past or in the future.
Now that most people get the time from their phones, which also know where they are, I think it's about time we implemented one minute time zones.
Participants st CPAC trolled into waving Russian flags
i think it's st least hopeful that some people there knew what was going on.
"Republican legislators are trying to crack down on protesters"
People who block traffic, destroy property, and assault people for attending a political event are not 'protesters'. That's like calling you a 'libertarian'. It's just not true, no matter how many times you repeat it.
True. I find it hard to believe these states don't already have laws on the books that prohibit blocking traffic, destroying property, and assaulting people. New laws in this regard are virtue-signaling?
1. The nyt, cnn, politico etc arent being denied free press. They can print what they want. Others confuse entitlement to be there and not doing so as suppression. There are a host of others that dont go as pointed out so why do you get special access?
2. Is buzzfeed really one?????? Why would anyone have a tabloid there
I'm with AMSOC. Dear Leader can't hear bad things from fake news so he has every right to kick them out. Says more about him than it does about the NYTimes.
Isnt this ironic coming fron a self professed socialist?
They dont have a right to be there...it is a privelege. Otherwise why do they have speci
rights but say the chicago sun times doesnt
I agree. Dear Leader can invite whomever he wants.
Shouldn't y'all not be crossing streams?
This place has gotten very confusing
LOL! I think one of them is the original american socialist under a different name while the other is a troll walking around in his skin... I'm worried their crossing streams will create an instability in the universe.
Hey i will give up the name amsoc. It is urs after this post
I commend your honor.
OK, thanks.
What's your new sock good sir?
It should be Amsock.
OK, I'm really confused. Who is whom now? Where'd Gilmore? classic flavor go? Whose sock is Gleemore? Why does nobody tell me anything?
Gilmore the original is probably posting on glibertarian.com (or whatever it is)
Who these sock puppets are.... it doesn't really matter. Troll is a troll.
Like a trashy soap opera, it doesn't matter at all, and yet for some reason it's entrancing.
It's dajjal etc.
I mean yeah, when in doubt it's probably addictionmyth.
Good, they deserved it. The president is under no obligation to invite anybody in particular to the press briefings. Note that press briefings and press conferences have always been propaganda events anyway, rather than even-handed and neutral events.
