Hello.
Kaboom edition!

Relevant.
Turd now writes for AP:
Economy healed under Obama, but unhappy voters chose Trump
[?]
"But President Barack Obama will leave behind, by most measures, an economy far stronger than the one he inherited."
http://www.sfgate.com/news/pol.....811357.php
A cockroach would leave behind an economy "improved" over 2008 numbers, for pete's sake.
Cherry-picked data, outright lies, and editorial comment claiming to be journalism follow. The paragraph on medical insurance must have taken hours to write given its mendacity.
Doing absolutely nothing would've improved the economy far quicker than how it progressed under Obama.
"Doing absolutely nothing" is generally the best government response to most problems.
And also the least likely.
Unless you work for the City of Oakland in the code enforcement department.
I thought code enforcement people spent all of their time coming up with Kafkaesque ways to nickel and dime their subjects to death. That's what they do around here, anyway.
They do, but Oakland only has like one guy, and he's part time.
They did something. They filled out paperwork. That's what bureaucrats do. It's not their fault some brainless idiots burned themselves to ashes before the paperwork could be processed.
Better than the code enforcement asshat who patrols my neighborhood here in Aurora, CO. He said my grass was too tall, so I pointed at my neighbor's "decorative" grass that grows about 6' tall and asked him if was also going to make him cut his, too. He of course said that he would not because it was "ornamental", I told him if he wanted to cite me I would sue the city for selectively enforcing clearly written ordinances. He seemed completely baffled and angry that anyone would dare question his authority to arbitrarily decide whose grass was "ornamental", he left without citing me, though, petty little bureaucratic shit.
"But President Barack Obama will leave behind, by most measures, an economy far stronger than the one he inherited."
Worth noting econ positives progs talk up regarding Obama are evil Republican measures - cheap gas, stock market up, miles-of-pipeline laid, and so forth.
All the 'equality' and 'economic justice' bullshit is out the window because the rich sure got richer and poor got poorer under Uncle Sugar. We will hear about these problems constantly though after January 20th.
Don't forget the number of oil and gas wells drilled and fracked.
O&G production from fracking alone (i.e., excluding conventional O&G) accounts for about 2% of the US economy if you put a reasonable 4x Keynesian multiplier on this wealth-creating activity (as opposed to wealth-destroying Obama stimulus activities like Cash for Clunkers and "renewable" "energy" boondoggles).
I like how they just ignore the labor force participation rate and don't even bother explaining it away.
President Obama rejected the assertion.
He's desperately jamming on that reset button.
Little does he knows it's like the DOOR CLOSE button in elevators.
I guess let's just leave him here, then.
"Tunisia refused to take him back"
I'm pretty sure they can't legally do that, but oh well.
"Ihre Papiere, bitte!"
"legally" Lulz. Laws are for little people, not for their betters or for nation states.
Nation states generally get to make up their own laws, don't they?
I guess there are treaties.
One of the good things about having a large military is you don't have to care what thier laws are.
I think I just heard that Tunisia was denying that the guy was a citizen and dicked around and finally issued him a passport yesterday or something.
I think that this one is going to really stir some shit up and make things difficult for Merkel.
The Russians must be involved.
Stick him on a plane, strap a parachute on his back, give him a 10 minute primer on its use, shove him out over Tunisia.
DO I HAVE TO THINK OF EVERYTHING?
A Tunisian man suspected in the Berlin Christmas market attack left Tunisia seven years ago as an illegal immigrant and spent time in prison in Italy, his father and security sources told Tunisia's Radio Mosaique on Wednesday...He served four years in jail in Italy on accusations of burning down a school, it said.
WTF?
Open borders.
Open borders.
Beat me by over 3.5 hours.
I'll bet Nick is so proud of how his border policy is working out.
Why does that surprise you? Remember that 17 year old refugee who raped and murdered a student in Germany?
Turns out, he was claiming to be 17 in 2013 when Greeks convicted him to 10 years in prison for trying to murder a woman. They let him out 18 months later, and he made his way to Germany.
This reminds me. I went to make a deposit in the upstairs bathroom earlier, because it gets less traffic than our floor and is generally more peaceful. There was a dude in the stairway, talking to the wall in what I assume is Arabic, with his shoes off and placed neatly next to him. Obviously I don't have a problem with this, but can't the guy find a better place to pray? Is he worried about getting fired if he does it in the office? I can understand he would be afraid to even ask, but that is a pretty said state of affairs if our culture has become that intolerant of law-abiding Muslims.
May be he has a cube, in which case I guess that would be the best he could do.
He needs a place to wash his feet.
I don't know, but I've seen similar things before. Maybe they just like to do it in private?
I had some Saudi customers visit a few years ago and I think they decided to pray in the storage/shower room attached to the men's room even though we offered them some more comfortable spots.
Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with islam.
Serious question, what did we end up doing with the Oighers or whatever that we captured in Afghanistan but couldn't repatriate to China?
Some (all?) were auctioned off to other countries
Well there you go. They shoulda sold him to the Italians for -300,000 Euro and been on their way.
Auctioned as the relative value of their organs?
5 went to Albania, so ... yes?
All 22 Uighurs from Guant?namo now have been resettled to six different countries
"Amid intense 'lobbying' by the United States, in 2009 four were sent to Bermuda and six to Palau, and in 2010 two went to Switzerland. In a twist, however, releasing the rest became a problem because the remaining five detainees refused offers to go to certain countries, extending their imprisonment for years. All five rejected offers to go to Palau or the Maldives, officials said. Last year, El Salvador offered to take them in, and two accepted that offer while the final three are said to have rejected that opportunity, too, and held out for something they liked better."
Yeh, like they're so gonna stay in Albania with all that espresso waiting for them across the Adriatic!
Didn't Palau or Micronesia or some place take them?
Gotta say, i would MUCH rather be forced to spend the rest of my life on some Polynesian island than in the Taklamakan.
This.
Is Talkamakan the one next to Uz-beki-beki-stan?
You mean the Whiggers?
Chiggers.
Bugs of color, racist.
Man, I hate chiggers. Those fuckers itch for days.
Albania: 5, Bermuda: 4, Palau: 6, Switzerland: 2, El Salvador: 2, Slovakia: 3.
Resettlement took place 2006-2013.
"Hey, you got Bermuda and I got Albania!"
Loser, Winner, Winner, Winner, Loser, Loser.
Apparently two of them refused to go to Palau or Bermuda.
Thanks. Those looked like soccer scores to me, too.

U.S.-supplied drones are not living up to expectations in Ukraine.
None of them deliver pizza.
Didn't kill enough people.
Have they started reprogramming military drones for pizza- and package-delivery yet, resulting in horror movie-style reversions to form?
How is the drone gonna get out from underneath the pizza when it lands? Has anyone thought about this problem???

That's in The Villages.

"What??? Of course the golf cars can outrace Magda, you uncouth punk. Nancy, on the other hand, always catches me and makes me pay the Golden Corral bill."

Or Florida Girl might be a squirter...
A volcano near Naples? Meh. What's the worst that can happen?
Last summer we went to Pompeii, the first time I've ever been there. For some reason I had always had this mental picture that you'd be walking around and there'd be people frozen in lava mid-activity. I half-expected to see a dog catching a frisbee, forever Medusa'd into stone in mid-flight.
Little did I know the real attraction was not lavafied people, but just more ruins, albeit better-preserved ones, mostly focusing on nice flooring and tubs.
Sure, there were some cadaver casts, but they were mostly inside one glass exhibit (which was ridiculously hard to find in the enormous park BTW), arranged in desultory fashion on a dark floor.
Another tourist bait-and-switch 😉
Thanks for the review.
We passes on it when we were in Naples; headed north to meet a friend in Venice instead and wondered what we'd missed.
""These actions, and Canada's parallel actions, protect a sensitive and unique ecosystem that is unlike any other region on earth,"
Covered in ice? Yeah, totally unique.
And it absolutely must stay the way it is right now! Otherwise, Gaia!
Why don't we make a requirement that any President wishing to preserve a sensitive and unique Arctic ecosystem must first spend a week's vacation time there in mid-January. It's such a wonderful place, they'd love to experience it first hand, and learn how much it needs our protection!
And getting more unique every day due to global warming, no doubt.
A cop did a nice thing for a college kid:
http://www.jsonline.com/story/...../95697558/
Escorted him or her to a safe space?
And you cynics say that the cops never release the video. They did it this time without even being asked!
Eighty percent of the largest fireworks market in Mexico was destroyed in an unexplained blast.
Unexplained but awesome.
I'm not 100% sure how ALL fireworks function, but I think I might be able to explain this.
As long as you're 80% sure, I'm listening
Probably not even 80%. I made these for my kids, and they didn't work very well.
The flash powder worked well, though. A little too well.
You put the lime in the coconut and mix it all together?
They had to make extra certain that the Martian spiders were dead?
Who hasn't had to make a rudimentary cannon to fight off a guy a rubber lizard suit?
+1 double foot kick
Rudimentary lathes are a lot more effective.
Since it occurred in Mexico, I'm going to assume the cause involves a spark or open flame combined with a disregard for basic safety.
Umm... I have a theory. Jesus that's scary though. I made my own black powder once. I spent a LOT of time making sure there were no sources of heat or ignition, and it took me 20 minutes to rig up a safe way to try it out.
These euphemisms are getting rather detailed.
You ground the potassium nitrate and charcoal up together?
I don't remember, but I have a very nice stone mortar and pestle from the experience. I don't think my charcoal was top quality. It kind of squibbed. Not much bang.
If you did it, you'd remember.
My recipe called for some sulfur, also. Ran out of the salt-peter from the chemistry set pretty quickly.
You can set off black powder without a traditional source of ignition if you're not careful.
I found that out trying to squeeze the powder out of caps to make by own Mission:Impossible fuse.
Turns out that sideways finger pressure works just as well as being struck by the hammer of the toy gun.
A supervolcano under Naples may be re-awakening.
All that geothermal is clean, sustainable energy! 😉
And makes for delicious tomatoes!
Naples, Yellowstone, well we won't have to argue about global warming after those two go off.
Finally got my print edition of Reason yesterday. I've really enjoyed it so far, I like the longer form as a contrast to HnR, which can sometimes get too clickbait-y (aside from the classy, big league comments, of course). This is my first issue though so I don't have any frame of reference for what KMW changed.
I think this is the first time in nearly a decade that I've received a physical magazine in the mail.
I keep mine in the bathroom.
I chip away at it, 3 minutes at a time. Longer if the kids are being annoying.

Oh, Canada (insert Riker facepalm gif)...
CRTC declares broadband internet access a basic service
If you don't know what CRTC is, go to Wikipedia, read, then weep for us.
Fuck the CRTC.
This, and the CBC too.
Have they also declared I7, 12 GB RAM laptops a human right yet?
Given their level of technical knowledge....another 15 years, I'd guess.
Thanks to our party and political structure, it will never happen, but a Canadian Trump would go a long way to gaining my vote if he ran on abolishing the CRTC and defunding CBC. Both institutions reek of Canadian cultural insecurity.
'Both institutions reek of Canadian cultural insecurity.'
Didn't you just describe Canada?
Yes. No. Shut up!
*hugs his stuffed Tommy the Healthcare Beaver toy*
If your beaver needs Healthcare then, yeah...
I'm certainly describing a great deal of Canadians, and the elites of Ottawa, who live with their heads up their asses, but they didn't get that way on their own. 19th century Canadian nationalism was proud, dammit, and not just because we aren't Americans.
Canadian nationalism lasted about seven minutes until they shrugged their shoulders and realized it was too damn hard because of the United States. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Sorta.
In all seriousness, Canada never could quit figure itself out.
quite.
Meh, we did have a big debate between English and French perspectives, but Canadian nationalism really started to fall apart after 1. The frontier ended. 2. We cut ties with the Empire and its death afterwards. It's a lot easier to contextualize your identity as subjects of a distant overlord than a nearby neighbour that does things better than you.
A big thing that 19th century nationalism focused on was the idea of a people who conquered a harsh wilderness and turned it into a functional civilization. Good lucky ever articulating that without people freaking out about the First Nations.
Also it's important to note that the Liberals since Trudeau were absolutely disastrous on the concept on Canadian nationalism, because they like to pretend we suddenly became a nation in the 1960s. Hence why public healthcare has become such a 'defining' element of vapid nationalist musings (that, and of course, the "We're not American" factor).
Coureur de bois!
Hell, we had more national character when we were cannon fodder for the Brits.
Canada is A-ok in my book, ya'll don't need to prove anything. Lots of courage shown in WW1 and 2.
You know when your selling point is 'what will happen to Canadian culture from coast to coast if the CBC dies' it's time to move on and PRIVATIZE.
When travelling abroad, I enjoy learning about local politics. When business took me to the frozen wastelands of Ontario, I listened to a political talk show on CBC. The show's host would certainly feel at home among the most politically correct at any effete, private liberal arts college. The thing I most clearly recall of his pap and drivel was a monologue about how he was proud to have never set foot in a WalMart because it represents everything that is wrong about capitalism.
It was unlike anything I've ever heard. Well, not quite. I did hear something like it from a nephew who was parroting anti-WalMart propaganda that he had learned at a posh $25000/year junior high school. But my nephew has since grown up, and disavows such nonsense now that he's working.

What's her Secret? Bombshell Devon Windsor flaunts her lean bikini body in a skimpy two-piece as she enjoys a blissful break
She looks OK from the back. The front of her needs a sandwich.
And a biiiig bowl of pasta!
Finally, an answer to the question, "Who won the Great Skeltal War?"

I miss those days (think Cameron Diaz) when slender women had slinky little rear ends.
Now (thanks Jennifer, Kim et al) even a ridiculously skinny woman like this has an ass that's three times the diameter of the rest of her frame.
Maybe I'm from another era, but I more appreciate how much of the total area of the ass that I can fit within my hands, rather than how much of a saddle said ass can cover.
Ah well, good thing I've got a box of old school porno mags somewhere in the garage, 'for old times' sake.'
"old school porno mags"
You have a pubes fetish?
"Healthy" I think is the secret. I saw Rear Window on a big screen recently, and Grace Kelly's rendition of her character is still, after sixty years or whatever, an absolutely peerless feminine spectacle. And she was quite slim, slim as Devon Windsor, but at an ideal weight for her frame. Devon needs ten, maybe twenty pounds on her frame.
As a counterpoint, Kate Upton's a tall husky gal, gotta weigh more than 130-140, but that's where she should be - and she gets pilloried from the Anna Wintour set for not being a 'real' model, not having hips, etc., because that gang is interested in a 'look' and not actual physical beauty. I'm sure Anna would approve of the emaciated Miss Windsor.
My biggest flaw in life used to be comparing all women I dated against Grace Kelly in Rear Window. The most beautiful, yet fun, accessible, unprepossessing, personable, engaging girlfriend ever!
Dang, why can't my life ever be more like what I see in movies?
Water and celery?
Not on the same day, fatty!

It is extremely hard for a girl that young not to be good looking and sexy. Almost impossible, actually. Sure, Miley Cyrus figured out how to do it, but she's the exception that proves the rule.

Preet Busts More NY State Officials For Corruption
I know he prosecutes because he loves headlines, but dammit, why must he keep making me want to love him?
Noted - people who manage state pensions are by far the most-bribed motherfuckers on earth, and everyone knows it. They seem to get busted every 5 years with boring regularity.

But with a heart of gold?
One can only hope he realized he acted like a dipshit with Reason.
Because as you stated, he's like Bat-Man or something! Can he go after Hillary?
The Reason thing was because someone said something about a federal judge. I'll leave it to you to decide whether it was the AUSA or the judge who decided this needed attention. Two little observations: prosecutors don't get ahead by saying "no" to judges; prosecutors do get ahead by sucking up to judges.

Just the cover photo. As you move down the page they're clearly quite different.
Yes. And both are much more attractive than skeleton model girl posted above.
I'm pretty sure that people who don't care about publicity don't pose topless in magazines.
They didn't say they didn't care about publicity. Just that that isn't why they are dating. They demonstrated that they care about publicity when they agreed to be on a reality TV show.

True.
the idea that he burned down a black church because "racist" is a little harder to run with tho.
No, I'm with you. I mean for fuck's sake, a black church burned down and left behind were trump business cards and monogrammed gloves. If that doesn't scream 'false flag'...
Another fact was the church merely burned; actual Trump attempt would be much brighter, more of a Michael Bay vibe to it, much classier.

How does that work? Put him on a plane to Tunisia. He's their problem after that.
Germany didn't have the paperwork to send him back. Germans. Not having paperwork. To send him back.
Nein.
Indeed. Or give him a German diplomatic passport that expires a couple of hours after the plane lands in Tunisia, take him to the German embassy, take the passport back, and kick him out the front door.
They won't let him off the plane since he has no passport.

Which means that the vast majority of any money claimed for "infrastructure" is really just pumped into complex patronage systems around the country. For Dems, it was stuff like "shoring up teacher's pensions" by using those funds to cover other state expenses.... for GOP insiders, it will be similarly used to offset new funds handed out to connected businesses.
Actually, the latest issue of Reason's regular 'Surface Transportation Innovations' email (well worth getting, despite the boring sounding title -- it gives you libertarian Bob Poole's insight, regularly to your inbox, on all auto, public transit, highway, housing and development, and related technology issues) breaks down what Trump's "$1 Trillion" infrastructure package is, and it actually makes a lot of sense, and would only cost $138 billion to the US spread over several years (practically free!)
Most of the money for the infrastructure projects will come from private investments. The $138 billion will be from tax incentives, not direct federal investment. Expect private investors to build bridges and freeways and get a return through tolls, and upgrade airports and train stations and get reimbursed by a ticket surcharge or something along those lines. User fees rather than taxing those who don't use!
Again, a businessman's free-market solution to an issue, rather than the usual Democrat plan to throw money at unions and hope something gets built. I'm starting to like Trump more and more.
Sure, but why do we need a federal govt to tell people when to build things? If there's demand for "infrastructure" it should make itself obvious to the developers. You don't need sugar-daddy making it more 'economical'. Otherwise you end up with "Bridges to Nowhere" = developers lining up to build shit no one needs, simply to collect a subsidized paycheck.
He seems to be working hard to make all my pants-shitting regarding his election irrelevant and just for funsies.
When I think about how-to-pay for any scheme remotely like this, I could see grand tax bargain - involving corporations - repatriating cash into USA at 10% corp. tax as part of a new corporate tax schedule. That would be one huge Fed-payment with several trillion coming onshore, translating into hundreds of Fed-billions to pay for stimulating schemes.
Don't agree with such a thing in principle (beyond corporate tax reform among tax reforms), but such a contrivance smells like a Trump-ish 'deal,' and would be good politics. Donks shitting out both ends if Trump pulled that off.
That would be politically brilliant. Some for a "stimulus," and some "to pay down some of Obama's debt," to twist the knife a bit. The sputtering of Democrats would be epic.
The Simpsons reference works on so many levels.
CNN being dishonest...shocker

"Today there were terror attacks in Turkey, Switzerland and Germany -- and it is only getting worse," Trump tweeted on Monday evening. "The civilized world must change thinking!"
In a press release, he also described the man who gunned down the Russian ambassador to Turkey as a "radical Islamic terrorist."
Trump's response was, if not wrong, obviously premature. In Berlin, especially, the suspect who drove a truck into a Christmas market remains at large. Authorities do not know who was responsible, nor what group if any backed or inspired the assault -- even as ISIS makes a claim of responsibility.
Think that's less dishonesty and more flickering hope and rationalizing on part of the writer.
Just because it was islamic terrorism the last 20 times doesn't mean that the 21st time is islamic terrorism.
Do you mean: "most of the last 20,000 times"?
Not in Germany, though.
Hmm... Cowboy Bebop Boxset for under $50... may be time to get myself a Holiday gift...
I don't understand... more anime that *isn't* porn?
Welp. I may have seen the series at least a dozen times, but I didn't have a Blu Ray of it.
Ordered.

Full disclosure, the non-Amazon Exclusive edition is only $20. It looks like the extra $30 only buys you the clamshell case and the art books.
I want the art books.
(me too!)
I love that show. But I think I'm OK with the DVD set I got 2 years ago.
Ooooh, tempting!
And anyone who liked Bebop should sample Black Lagoon, its more violent, foul-mouthed counterpart.
The Phenomenon of 'Bud Sex' Between Straight Rural Men
I may have a different definition of "straight" than others, but...
"But ya think they call me MacGregor the bridge builder? No!" ...
From the article:
Since this is a qualitative rather than a quantitative study, it's important to recognize that the particular men recruited by Silva weren't necessarily representative of, well, anything. These were just the guys who agreed to participate in an academic's research project after they saw an ad for it on Craigslist.
This is just rummaging around in the closet.

Didn't sound like the Space Marines of the USS Sulaco bought the line "It don't matter when it's Arcturian" either.
It's pronounced "Butt Sex!"
Oh, blame the beer for it. Sure....

A spokesperson for Russia President Vladimir Putin says relations with the U.S. were "frozen" until Donald Trump, from whom they expected a "fresher and more constructive approach," took office. President Obama rejected the assertion.
Not to be a dick, Obama, but if your neighbor says he doesn't like you, then he doesn't like you. Saying "No, my neighbor loves me, and I improved our image all over the world" doesn't make it so.
Watching Obama interact with basically anybody not attuned to Western racial grievances and perceptions is a long advertisement that affirmative action actually cheats the beneficiaries once they get out into the real world.
Looks like Obama is getting the same hand from Putin that Carter got from Khomeini. No hostages required.
Go ahead and be a dick; why should Obo get to be the only one?
President-elect Trump has single-handedly created a mental health crisis that is literally killing people.
Common sense trump control?
but was not deported because Tunisia refused to take him back.
But I bet Antarctica didn't have anything negative to say about taking him. You know, once upon a time Germans were a lot more creative in dealing with problem minorities.
