N.C. Governor Concedes Election, Gore Meets with Trump, Mistrial Declared in Walter Scott Case: P.M. Links

-
John Angelillo/ POOL/EPA/Newscom Republican North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has finally conceded today to challenger Roy Cooper, the state's attorney general. The votes had been very close, but as they were tallied, it was increasingly clear that Cooper had maintained a tight lead.
- Former Vice President Al Gore met with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, to discuss climate change issues. Gore described the meeting as "productive."
- A judge has disclared a mistrial because the jury couldn't reach a unanimous verdict in the police shooting of Walter Scott in South Carolina.
- The owner of Pulse, the Orlando gay nightclub that was the scene of the mass killing in June, has decided not to sell the property to the city to turn it into a memorial and will keep it to turn into a "sanctuary of hope."
- Food truck owners in Chicago have lost a lawsuit against the burdensome regulations designed to protect traditional restaurants at their expense.
- Japan's prime minister is planning a visit to Pearl Harbor with President Barack Obama, the first Japanese leader to do so.
- Amazon is testing a shopping method that not only lacks cashiers but doesn't even have registers, prompting a lot of discussion about the future of retail shopping (and employment). For a different perspective, note that some grocery stores are actually starting to scale back on use of self-checkouts.
- Carrier insists that its decisions to raise prices for its products has absolutely nothing to do with President-elect Donald Trump and the deal to keep from shipping some jobs to Mexico.

Republican North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has finally conceded today to challenger Roy Cooper, the state's attorney general.
Let the healing begin.
Hello.
"Former Vice President Al Gore met with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, to discuss climate change issues. Gore described the meeting as "productive."
He just wanted to make sure his ka-ching operation wasn't going to be hurt.
I thought we'd never be able to continue with life like drinking beer and watching UNC basketball
Pulling an Eddie here, but fuck another AG as governor this will not turn out well.
Gosh I hope he only lasts 4 years
Needs moar aborshunz whining.
If GOP holds veto-proof supermajorities for the next four years, this vote will be of little consequence. And unless the Blue Dog Coalitions make a roaring comeback in 4 years, the Dems will have little chance in taking back legislative control for a very long time.
In addition, it's very likely that Cooper is a 1-term governor. Remember that Trump won this state and Burr held his seat this election, along with the maintained GOP super-majority. This meant that Cooper's win can IMO be attributed to HB2 protest votes among independents.
And don't forget fraud!
Which isn't going away.
My concern is things that Repubs and Democrats agree on especially an AG namely more police invasiveness and police protections as happened with Mike Easley.
I think his chakras are fully open after meeting with her, or else he got the necessary material to make his next massage appointment "productive".
Gore described the meeting as "productive."
Uh-oh.
BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS WE BELIEVE IN OUR HEART OF HEARTS TRUMP WILL DO/1/1/1/1/1/1/1/
You don't get to criticize Trump until you openly account for What Would Hillary Do.
No, please, everybody criticise Trump. But NEVER forget that the candidate the Liberal Left ran against him was an uninicted felon (or possibly simply an idiot) with no visible means of support other than graft, a sense of entitlement that would have shamed a Manchu dynasty Emperor, and the charm one normally associates with a colony of cherrystone clams. Always remember that Trump was the better of two choices.
No.
In case anyone is confused by what I meant here, I'm making fun of the almost comical knee-jerk response on Twitter that attends any criticism of His Hairness: namely, immediately asserting that Hillary would do worse, which is both true and unenlightening.
Hopefully, that was just a face-saving gesture on Gore's part after Trump laughed at him.
Maybe, but everything about Trump's history says otherwise.
Agreed. That wouldn't be like Trump. Ugh.
Trump wanted to see the other popular-vote winning loser up close.
"Al, I will listen to your AGW spiel if first you make an L on your forehead with your thumb and index finger."
"Ha! I didn't think you'd actually do it! OK, you can tell me about this hockey stick of yours."
It sounds like his daughter is pushing him to jump on the climate change train...
Gore described the meeting as "productive."
Read that like Clinton telling the press he taught the pope a thing or two. Or just read it with Chandler's voice from friends.
A judge has disclared a mistrial because the jury couldn't reach a unanimous verdict in the police shooting of Walter Scott in South Carolina.
If only there had been video.

Stupid Henry Fonda, thinks he's so smart.
Srsly? Linky?
You never can tell these days, can you?
He never denied fucking those underage sheep, did he?
OK, Sparks, you got me. Well done.
PIzzaGate just took a weird turn.
Damn that's similar to what I was going to say
Goddammit, I'm just gonna hop in my roadster and drive on down to Fucktown.
Self-serving, hagiographic, revisionist progderp from The Atlantic: The Dangerous Myth That Hillary Clinton Ignored the Working Class
Best comment (from my FB, not the article itself): "She didn't campaign in the rust belt and that was a terrible miscalculation." Hahahaha...
She did "have a plan". I was arguing with a true believer right after the election who sent me gobs of documentation links to prove that she had a plan. But the plan was basically to run code camps in the dead warehouses that used to provide blue collar jobs for guys who didn't really want to work with computers. As someone else pointed out, she had a technocratic plan for alleviating their suffering with grants and welfare, he had a plan to go keep jobs and make someone else suffer.
Clinton also had a plan to build an economic wall around the US.
I've often wondered if the decision to not campaign in the rust belt was driven by strategy or security. She is widely hated in blue collar white America, so unlikely to gain many votes, and a huge possibility of being insulted, called-out or shouted down. Had she had a health-related incident it would have been far more likely for someone to make it a point to get video out, etc.
As to the security point, I wonder if Secret Service advised her against that?
I think they're just not smart and (more-importantly) hyper-sheltered. They just don't see people outside their worldview...ever really. We make fun of it, but for them it often really is say "racism" and assume you won. Or if they're feeling wonky go with some quip like, "how many minorities do you want to die from losing their healthcare?" In these circles, there's just no arguing with it. Even like a basic, "we might have to check our premises" never happens and might result in ostracizing.
I also think the party hacks kind of coasted on the unique (uh...) "talents" of Obama, which made them feel smarter than they actually were. All the data stuff, micro-targeting, messaging...just not that great without the right avatar.
I think she was trying to avoid situations where she might have been made to look weak on account of being a woman.
Or they assumed more working-class Democrats saw her, the more would stay at home?
^This, too.
I've often wondered if the decision to not campaign in the rust belt was driven by strategy or security.
From what I understand, her campaign team was full of Nate Silver-type data dorks who spent all day on their computers looking at metrics, and thought their data operation would allow them to target the votes they needed to win--rather than, you know, meeting with a broad cross-section of people and giving them a reason to vote for her. Obviously, they were wrong, as they completely ignored the "firewall", and not only were blown the fuck out by the white lower classes by historic margins, but the black vote was totally AWOL (probably because black men aren't going to vote for an old white bitch-hag no matter what her party is).
That's why you had Billy Jeff running a one-man campaign for her in the Rust Belt while Hillary's dipshit Millennial Nerd Brigade dismissed these traditionally Democrat voters as irrelevant--"We've got the Rainbow Coalition, we don't need those inbred hicks anymore!"
They sure call a lot of things "dangerous".
They sure do. So many progressives - self professed free thinking, authority questioning, socially tolerant people - doing so much self-policing of thoughtcrime.
Jesus, those comments....
Mrs. Clinton didn't ignore the working class. She attacked them. In fact, she's attacked middle America since 1992. Remember the oldie but goodie, "I can't be responsible for every under-capitalized small business in America" when she was trying to ram socialized medicine down our throats?
She's the original SJW. Any disagreement with her was 'sexism' or a 'vast right-wing conspiracy'. She's the role model for third-wave fascist feminism.

Her generation of Boomer shitlibs are going to go down in history as the one who ultimately set the course for the country's decline. They achieved everything they really wanted on the racial/gender equality front, and subsequently enabled their offspring to pursue increasingly ridiculous causes that have done nothing but further divide the country.
Former Vice President Al Gore met with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, to discuss climate change issues.
I can't remember the punchline to this one.
Ivanka took her top off, Gore left happy.
Very productive, according to Gore's briefs.
+1 slender homo
Former Vice President Al Gore met with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, to discuss climate change issues.
Ivanka has already honey potted like 8 diplomats and a couple head of states.
Sweet. I managed to get a meeting next week, as ambassador of Freedonia.
Your name is truly accurate, then.
Freedonia have any open Czar-like positions?
Freedonia have any diverse teams of super-spies in need of an eagle-headed leader?
Fact: no gay Muslims were harmed by patrons of Pulse that night.
Damnit, Fist, quit switching your posts around.
Leave me out of this one.
...has decided not to sell the property to the city to turn it into a memorial and will keep it to turn into a "sanctuary of hope."
Memorial to the efficacy of disarmament.
And gun store?
The owner of Pulse, the Orlando gay nightclub that was the scene of the mass killing in June, has decided not to sell the property to the city to turn it into a memorial and will keep it to turn into a "sanctuary of hope."
So, still a gay club?
'Sanctuary of Hope'.
The Democrat party are the new tenants?
Yeah, I don't know how he intends to make his mortgage and tax payments off of that. Will be interesting to see.
So, still a gay club?
Sanctuary Studios LAX is the local straight BDSM sex club. I think they have a gay night.
I learned many things about middle aged women and hitachi wands, and BBQ sauce wrestling.
I assume this is the gateway fetish to cannibalism?
I don't know. Of all the food-related wrestlings I've watched or participated in it was my least favorite. It was also done in a tarp with women in their panties being sprayed down with BBQ sauce instead of in a tub where it was sloshy and self-reapplying.
Hitachi or hibachi?
Hitachi. The BBQ sauce wrestling was in a different room. I told one of my lady friends I'd seen a woman orgasm for the first time in person and she asked how I knew she wasn't faking. "Hitachi wand." "Oh yeah, you saw a woman orgasm."
After googling, I really hope that's an external device
my eyes saw 'BBQ' in the sentence and decoded the other word as 'hibachi' too.
I'm happy to say that I was interviewed by Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America recently.
Here's a link to the interview audio.
Thanks again to everyone who bought my book. If you have any feedback or comments, please email me at Ranjit.Singh.Author@gmail.com or leave a review on the Amazon site!
Thanks. I plan to buy your book early next year. Please keep reminding us of that and posting here.
Thanks Tonio. There may be more developments happening on our end. I will keep you posted.
Larry Pratt interviewing me was a big deal given I'm a first-time writer and no one knows me. I've kind of given up on Reason itself being interested in reviewing my work, but you guys have been supportive and I appreciate that.
Glad you got that exposure.
Are you/were you Sikh, perchance?
No. My background is in Hinduism but I don't practice any religion.
Ok. Just wondering from the nom-de-Internet.
Around 30 percent of me is straight out of Punjab, myself.
I tried instituting Thursdays as Bhangra Thursdays, but the honkies (except Hyperion) here would have none it.
WTF? I made it a minute in and there was absolutely no gratuitous bootie shaking in that video. Very disappointing.
I blame Dalmia.
There were some definite woulds in there though.
Bhangra is fun. The London DJ scene is especially good if you're into it.
Japan's prime minister is planning a visit to Pearl Harbor with President Barack Obama, the first Japanese leader to do so.
FDR had no prior knowledge of this occurring.
That picture.
*barf*
He looks like he's melting. Is... is this climate change?
He's just preparing to molt into his winter coat.
Oh fuck. So the science-denying religious nutjob might be getting his hooks into another generation of politicians.
I think he's getting the polite brush-off with a pretty smile and a lowcut dress.

He wants to see the sleeping giant that is totally woke.
I want to hit you.

Golf clap? Golf clap.
I love self-checkout lanes at my local grocery store. Three problems:
1. People use them that have no business using them, skill-wise.
2. Poorly calibrated scales that cause delays with item verification.
3. Dumb policy around rewards programs like collecting stamps or whatever, so that the checkout process will not give you your receipt until the monitor clears you.
2&3 are easy enough to fix... not sure what to do about 1 except have a warning go off after maybe 3 minutes.
The two stores near me that have self-checkout have monitors to make sure people keep moving and offer assistance. Seems like a reasonable way to handle it.
No monitor gets paid enough to tell a soccer mom that maybe holding up a long line so that her 5yo can scan items is a bad idea.
^This. But that falls under category 1.
If they let me use a cattle prod, I'd be very affordable for monitoring service.
I'd use self-checkout if there was a discount for doing so. But if I'm paying full service prices, then I want the minion I paid for to do something.
Well, it can be much faster. Depends on whether people actually use it.
Publix in Clearwater, I would be faster, but the line would be slower. Especially now, when some 87 year old Ontarian tries to convert real money to Canadian dollars and pounds to kilos to figure out whether they are spending one or two cents too much on the bananas they bought.
Your first mistake was shopping in Pinellas County.
Its a long drive to the nearest one in Hillsborough. This is my first winter here as an adult. I have an irrational hatred of pretty much anyone with out of state plates. The Texans are okay, everyone else makes me understand the road rage incidence.
Maybe FL should have another open season on tourists?
That was South Florida.
You should visit the one in Carrollwood. Interesting mix of all aspects of society (from 80 year old women being dropped off in a chauffeur driven Rolls to stereotypical military dependas). And there is a definite schedule as to who shops when. Very strange.
Agree wholeheartedly on the out of state plates. I know it's going to be a bad drive home when I see Pennsylvania plates on the cars in front of me...
The checkout people at the store nearest home are either unconscionably snotty or incomprehensibly chatty. It's a line. This is your job. Just get me through it and on my way.
Not having to deal with that minion is compensation enough.
I only use it if I have a small amount of stuff and there is no wait. Otherwise, I'll stand there and let someone else bag my groceries.
I only use them if I'm buying a few items and the express lane is crowded.
4. Attendants who scarper off at every opportunity and you have to wait if you have wine/beer in the cart, or need an override (see point number 2).
Great minds and etc.
Illegal in CA to buy booze in a self-check lane. But the attendants do still scarper off, causing delays.
If you're using a self-checkout line for a product that someone employed by the store needs to see your ID about, then use a line with a person running the cash drawer.
Nope. If they don't look at my gray beard and do a no-questions-asked override within fifteen seconds I walk. Non-negotiable.
4. They need facial recognition software so I can buy booze without waiting for the one monitor to realize I am older than 40.
1. People use them that have no business using them, skill-wise.
...
3. Dumb policy around rewards programs like collecting stamps or whatever, so that the checkout process will not give you your receipt until the monitor clears you.
A chain store near me took them out. I strongly suspect forgetful people, both customers and employees, were using them to their advantage. Another has erected an impulse-buy queuing barrier in front of them. It feels very... desperate.
Personally, IMO, seems that the stores other than grocery stores that I visit, who have always had human registers, are far better at making sure their employees perform as human registers. That grocery stores have always had the worst checkout people.
One thing I noticed is some chains use handicapped cashiers. There's always the woman with 1 lame hand, the guy with 2 fingers, the Down Syndrome kid, etc. All nice enough people, and although I like to pretend I'm helping them get work, the manager that puts all these people on Saturday morning duty needs to be replaced. I dunno, maybe customers get leery of buying produce stocked by handicapped people but it seems they would be better suited for some of the inventory jobs than the cashier jobs.
RFID Checkout will be much better. Just pack up your stuff in your grocery bags and walk through a scanner on the way out. Even produce could be set up to work with that system, or it can be separated and weighed manually.
It'll take a long time before stores trust this. They have no idea (until it's too late) whether the RFID scanners picked up all the items. It'll take a few brave retailers to be the guinea pigs.
I don't think that people would mind being "detained" in a corral for 30 seconds to allow the scan to happen. The RFID scanners are good enough that 30s in a ~5 ft. proximity should be enough to get everything in the cart/on your person.
Express lanes where one line divides up into 4-5 registers is FAR SUPERIOR to self-checkout, which always takes longer than it should. That express lane line moves fast.
Problem is that the express lane has 4-5 cashiers in need of compensation and the self-checkout lanes have 1 or none. But the self-checkout lanes usually need shitloads of maintenance. They tend to be abused and go downhill fast. And they are more expensive than the cashiers they are replacing.
Don't worry, the forthcoming $15 minimum wage will fix that last point.
Where I am there is one queue for each four self-check stations. I also gauge the situation: out-of-service stations, old people, parent with restless young children, very full carts, bringing own bags, anything else likely to lead to a delay and I re-evaluate.
BTW, I unilaterally enforce single feeder queues.
Numbnutz: Which line are you in?
Tonio: There is a single feeder line for all these stations. I'm in it. Everyone wins that way.
Nice. I personally unilaterally enforce row-by-row exiting on planes, as I usually sit on the aisle. I've have "accidentally" body checked people before who are trying to jump the queue.
1. Self-checkout sucks at anything requiring a code lookup
2. The more you check out, the more likely it will get confused and you have to either start over or find a human.
3. I especially hate ten tuna cans, for instance, because you can't just wave one back and forth, you have to wave each, deposit each on the checkout scale, and s.l.o.w...d.o.w.n or it gets conused around can No. 4 and see No 2.
I use them when I only have a few simple things. I try them once every month or two for longer and/or more complicated stuff, but almost always get stymied half way through. I just scoop everything up, smack a few buttons to get some human's attention, and walk off to find a human cashier.
Learn where the "call attendant" touch button is on your self-check. Also, learn where the "lane open" toggle switch is on the light pole beside the lane. Grab onto that and start working it if the attendant isn't there.
Basically, that one time you cause trouble they start recognizing you and issue standing orders to "always ensure that Mr. Tonio has a smooth self-check experience." I always walk by the customer service counter and wave at the manager-on-duty when I enter the store. They
...understand.
I figure walking away and leaving it in a state where some manager has to clear it is a good enough message. Whether they associate it with me or crappy software, I don't care.
so, helpful tip:
the touch screen coke vending machines can be put into the programming mode by going to the water page and tapping the following sequence: top, bottom, left, right.
it brings you to this cool page that adjusts levels of concentrate, and can even switch inputs.
I do not know how to exit this page.
When was Barack Obama the leader of Japan?
He is a light giver. Obama can do anything.
Why would you assume a black man can't be leader of Japan, racist?
The Japanese are not fans of Indonesians, except as maids and home health workers.
Well he wasn't leader of Japan per se, more like a prefecture.
pre-narrowed gaze
...note that some grocery stores are actually starting to scale back on use of self-checkouts.
Boooo. I like not having cashiers judging my purchases.
I do not judge that you put a cucumber, petroleum jelly, eggplant, coconut, duct tape, zip ties, 55 gallon garbage bags, skinning knife, meat tenderizer mallet, hair dye, and deep dish pizza in your cart. It's a free country until you use it for nefarious purposes.
This country's been used for nothing but nefarious purposes for decades now.

Only news that matters: Fresh Prince of Bel Air is coming to Netflix.
As a parent I just don't understand.
Netflix and chillin' out max.
Japan's prime minister is planning a visit to Pearl Harbor with President Barack Obama, the first Japanese leader to do so.
Bigger than Obama going to Cuba?
the first Japanese leader to do so.
Hasn't the Japanese Emperor already visited Pearl Harbor?
No, but his navy did.
[hearty applause]
Too soon?
Wait 5 minutes.
'Leader' is a tad normative for the Divine.
No but there most certainly were military officers there before...
That's the most pretentious name for a glory-hole i've ever heard.
You don't get no glory on that side of the hole...
Carrier insists that its decisions to raise prices for its products has absolutely nothing to do with President-Elect Donald Trump and the deal to keep from shipping some jobs to Mexico.
Because that was always going to be consequence-free.
He saved 900 jobs by increasing prices for 500,000 people. Hurrah.
If Carrier has competitors, they just might find out what economics really means.
I suspect they will try to run the same scam
I worded my thought poorly. I meant Carrier might learn a lesson in Econ 101.
Self-serving, hagiographic, revisionist progderp from The Atlantic: The Dangerous Myth That Hillary Clinton Ignored the Working Class
"Let them eat artisanal mayonnaise."
I don't know if taking for granted and ignoring are synonymous.
Calling a good number of them 'deplorables' is hardly ignoring them...
So, I recently rediscovered the Virginia Declaration of Rights written in 1776 by George Mason. Among the many treasures therein:
Pretty heady stuff.
Let me translate for a modern audience: "Yo, I'm outta here, dudes."
A lot of state constitutions have little gems like that in them. Article 1, section 2 of PA's constitution:
Pa constitution also enshrines the right to bear arms, with no "militia" b.s. language.
The NH Constitution begins with a Bill of Rights:
[Art.] 2. [Natural Rights.] All men have certain natural, essential, and inherent rights - among which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing, and protecting, property; and, in a word, of seeking and obtaining happiness. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this state on account of race, creed, color, sex or national origin.
[Art.] 2-a. [The Bearing of Arms.] All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property and the state.
[Art.] 10. [Right of Revolution.] Government being instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security, of the whole community, and not for the private interest or emolument of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, whenever the ends of government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the people may, and of right ought to reform the old, or establish a new government. The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.
A lot of state constitutions do.
Colon Paperneck's game line yesterday: 1 out 5 for 4 yards. That comes out to 0.8 yards per attempt. A 39.6 traditional passer rating, and a 3.2 on ESPN's Total QBR scale of 1-100. He also ran 6 times for 20 yards, got sacked 5 times, and fumbled once.
Basically, he had probably one of the absolute worst games a starting quarterback has had in modern NFL history. "Johnny Football" had one a couple of years ago that was probably worse, but quickly off the top of my head no other performances this bad come to mind.
What happened to Kaepernick? Wasn't he a pretty decent QB just a few years ago?
He ran a single read offense, if his first read wasn't wide open, then he would run. Once defenses figured this out and his own defense wasn't any good he was done.
This, plus he was never a very good passer, which cuts down his options. Scouting and game plans caught up with him once the rest of the offense was weaker and couldn't compensate for his shortcomings.
Management and coaching talent I think has also been working some magic.
Only against Dom Capers defenses.
Well, Capers "defense" is where I saw him play most, being a GB fan.
When they were making their run to the Super Bowl, I liked him. He was a really exciting player. I am not sure that there has ever been a player rise as fast and fall as far as him without getting injured. Kapernick never got hurt. He just completely lost the ability to play football.
Truly weird. This seems to happen more and more.
It has been happening in sports forever.
Yes but usually it is because the guy gets hurt. Name me another player like Kapernick who was that good for a short time only to fall to earth but didn't also get hurt?
Derek Bell?
Not exactly the same but he fell off the planet in a hurry.
Michael Vick. Of course, some might say prison is a tad worse than an injury.
Going to prison set him back a bit. But Vick had a good post prison career. He wasn't bad.
He had one good year after prison, when Andy Reed was the first person ever to actually teach him how to be a quarterback, but by then age was taking a toll on his already fragile body. How good could he have been if someone like Reed had been the one to draft him? I'd say pretty damn good.
Going to prison set him back a bit. But Vick had a good post prison career. He wasn't bad.
Michael Vick's signature year was Dan Reeves' last year coaching the Falcons. Inexplicably they then fired Reeves, and brought in Mora's kid who tried making him a pocket passer for some stupid reason.
Vick broke his leg in preseason game the following season, and was never the same after. Dogs were all after that.
Marc Bulger?
We ran Kurt Warner out of St. Louis for him.
Not a great move.
I think the system is so important in the NFL that if you and the coach aren't in the right system, you should go take a big pay cut and play for a coach who is good at their system. Although, Houston is like the new Tampa Bay. You could send Tom Brady or Jameis Winston there tomorrow and they would go 3-2 for the rest of the year, because they're playing their 3 division teams again.
Rick Ankiel!
Yeah, pitchers in baseball will lose their nerves and go south. Steve Stone is another example. But I was thinking about football and quarterbacks in particular.
I guess Jack Delome would be the other example.
I think you mean Steve Blass. Steve Stone was generally always pretty mediocre, but won a CYA because of the idiotic "win."
He could play ball, though. He came back as a darn good centerfielder who could throw strikes from the wall easier than he could from the mound. I don't see Kapernik becoming a tight-end or a safety.
I fucking hate the DH.
I fucking hate watching pitchers' feeble attempts to hit
Pathetic.
I hated watching Greg Luzinski try to play the outfield, but it's the tradeoff. You want his bat in there, so you live with his glove. And you want Randy Johnson on the mound, so you live with his two or three at bats every five days.
Unless we just play baseball with pure specialists - nine hitters, eight glove men, and a pitcher. That doesn't interest me. I'd rather see players manage their weaknesses instead of covering them up by the rules.
Would you like to see Tom Brady playing SS on defense when the Pats don't have the ball ?
It's all the racist linebackers gunning for him.
He has had surgery on this thumb, left shoulder, and a knee. He also lost a good amount of weight.
If you don't train your body almost year round as a professional athlete - especially a position like quarterback - you will not have long term success.
I didn't realize he had those injuries. That explains it. Once he got hurt, he lost a step and without his speed, he is just a bad QB.
Correct. He had all of those surgeries recently, lost a good amount of weight, and he doesn't put in the mental effort it seems like quarterbacks need to consistently do to be successful.
Intelligence is constantly underrated by organizations. It is why Tom Brady can be a sixth round draft pick but DeMarcus Russell can go number one overall.
It is not anymore - they all use personality tests before the draft.
And they still keep drafting stupid guys on the basis of physical potential. They have been giving intelligence tests for decades. There are two problems. First they don't measure the kind of intelligence it takes to be a great athlete. A lot of total lunk heads on written tests have an instinctive genius on the field. Ray Lewis isn't exactly a Rhodes scholar but he was one of the smartest linebackers ever to play. Second, even to the extent they do, organizations still have a hard time resisting the temptation of big fast and stupid.
A lot of total lunk heads on written tests have an instinctive genius on the field. Ray Lewis isn't exactly a Rhodes scholar but he was one of the smartest linebackers ever to play.
Seattle's defense - minus now it seems Earl Thomas - in general are pretty sharp that way. Not a Chicken-lover whatsoever, but watching likes of wonderboy Patriot like Edelman getting straight up mugged by Kam Chancellor is...satisfying.
They need to give the intelligence tests to the GMs as well (see Ponder, Christian). Or at least have somebody who looks more at playing the game than at combine stats.
They use the Wonderlic test, but mostly only pay attention for safeties and QBs
They also use the Player Assessment Tool, and I am sure other tests as well.
It's probably a specific kind of intelligence that's hard to measure. You need to be able to diagnose the situation, make a quick decision and execute the decision. There are probably a lot intelligent people who can diagnose the situation, but not quickly enough. Likewise, there's probably a lot of people who can quickly execute a decision, but it's the wrong decision.
Copernick is married to a radical Muslim woman who is all SJWed up the wazoo.
That is where the Afro and the Castro Tee shirts have come from.
He is an angry young man yoked to a black angry Muslim female and like a lot of young men does what he does because pussy.
John,
Colin was injured it's just not a visible would. Head injury.
I feel like I lose an erection every time Mikey makes me laugh.
He's growing on you, much like a cold sore or genital wart.
Colon Paperneck
Colon Paperneck
Capperdick has more lulz
Mikey's never been within shouting distance of clever, though. Except for one time that he yelled at some STEM kids for like an hour on the bus.
Give him credit for Goth Fonzie, X. That one was pretty damn good.
Thanks, but I don't believe in taking credit for the work of others. Someone other than myself came up with "Goth Fonzie" a pretty long time ago. I didn't come up with Colon Paperneck either.
Good on you, Mike. Now keep them coming, wherever you get it from.
You're just harping on this because you landed on a good nickname. Don't drive it into the ground.
Sadly my Bears will get a worse draft pick because of him yesterday. Wasn't Chip Kelly supposed to be a good coach and someone like this a good fit for his system?
This is the thread where John opposes cashierless shopping.
Maybe if they made the robots a little fatter...
Thosr are important AMERICAN jobs!!!!
No there isn't. That is a complete lie. I do not andnever have opposed that. Fuck you Rob, why would you make up a lie like that? Are you trying to be funny?
Yes, he's trying to be funny. He's poking fun at your hatred for driverless cars.
Are you?
It's so hard to figure out how to comment on Trump. Lefties are sleeping on bare mattresses because all their sheets are soiled. But really he might be a Democrat and go for lots of their horrible policies. It's so disorienting.
Lefties are sleeping on bare mattresses because all their sheets are soiled.
Not only that, they spent the last 8 yrs. and the election throwing everything and the kitchen sink at anybody who's even sat across the aisle in a theater and now they're too busy writing 5-step 'How To Not Shit the Bed' articles to each other to point out that the same shitty stuff that happened on their team's watch is still happening.
They're not reading those articles, though. It doesn't matter, because whenever proggies try to explain to other proggies why people didn't accept Her Highness, they typically get it very, very wrong.
They should be reading what everyone else has been telling them all along. Too bad they never learn and will only get worse with the demonization, identity politics, smug, insulting behavior. They're also going tyrannical on people and insisting that the First Amendment needs to be curtailed some more.
give better one-on-one service to shoppers.
I dont want one-on-one service, I want zero-on-one service.
If I have a lot of stuff, having someone else bag it and put it in the cart is worth something. If the cashiers don't suck, they scan stuff much faster than I can without a conveyor belt feeding me stuff.
I got the chance to see Paul Volcker and Joe Biden talk about financial regulation today. It was about as derptastic and partisan as you would expect.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Biden, I will say, is a likable enough guy. Full of shit though.
Bastard's son died of the same thing I have, so I can only partially despise him, the rat. What are the odds?
Wow, long time, no see.

Gasp! = Ben Carson isn't a fan of HUD's historic legacy
Their assessment of HUD & the FHA as "helping people" is at best absurdly generous. Even liberals who look at the legacy of that department eventually admit its a unmitigated failure of mammoth proportions. Like Obamacare - but even more *crony*
AEI sums up the "60 years of failure" here
And one merely needs to google "HUD corruption" to find 1000s of articles over those 60 years detailing how pols have used HUD to help scumbags use federally subsidized mortgages as scams to rip off the poor. (hand out mortgages like candy - wait a few years - then you own the property and take a federal settlement; meanwhile, borrower is bankrupt)
'Only the butter was a surprise': Last Tango in Paris director insists actress knew about the violence in the famous rape scene after new round of outrage
"I like simple pleasures, like butter in my ass and lollipops in my mouth."
It shouldn't surprise me that a bunch of idiots thought this was all an admission that Schneider was raped on camera, but it did. I still have some naivety in me.
Wow a lot of butthurt comments by folks in that article ignoring the fact it was a simulated act, not real. The movie still holds up well imho.
Oh, it gets better. I made a brief stop at Huffpo and saw this article on the sideline. Primed by this post I clicked. Oh, wow.
Their conclusion:
Mark Knoller: By Executive Order, Pres Obama creates a National Invasive Species Council to safeguard US ecology from invasive plants, bugs, etc. (Media?)
Humans - the ultimate invasive species. /greenie
I thought we already had one of those. EPA maybe?
finally, we can start the war on the honey bee.
Like Californians moving to other states?
Bringing the same derp that fucked up their home state. Formerly from NH, I've seen the Massholes do the exact same crap.
Here in Florida, the home of the invasive species, the only one that seems to have a rational control plan is the lionfish. They encourage fishing and even provide recipes.
Iguanas, boas, etc. all seem to come with restrictions on hunting. We have iguanas like other people have rats. (and if you live on the water, we have rats like other people have bugs)
You'd think they'd have open season year round on any non-native species. But nooooo.... you'll get in all sorts of trouble for killing a boa without a special permit. Because that makes sense....
And no, I wasn't kidding....
And you don't get to just kill them...
here's a list of requirements:
You would think they would have a "please kill these invasive species on site" policy.
But they only seem to have arrived at this conclusion for lionfish and some invasive plant species.
Heck, they are even dithering over the environmental impacts of killing off the invasive aedes aegypti mosquito..... you know, the one that carries yellow fever, dengue fever, chikungunya, Zika, Mayaro .... nice critter.
"Gore described the meeting as productive."
Maybe we finally will have a bipartisan approach to address Manbearpig.
"Food truck owners in Chicago have lost a lawsuit against the burdensome regulations designed to protect traditional restaurants at their expense."
From the article:
The city "found that the law allows the city to "balance" competition within its borders."
Balance has a new meaning. Good to know.
Good bye Taste of Chicago.
DC Mayor will Push for Statehood in Meeting with Trump
Trump can't give them statehood. Only Congress can do that and no way in hell is that happening.
They might in return for splitting off the red parts of CA.
Why not shrink DC?
No, expand D.C. Get those parasites out of MD and VA, so they can function again.
Only a constitutional amendment could do it. And it's not happening.
Frankly, it would be a really stupid thing to do anyway.
We can't figure out how to put 51 stars on the flag.
It's like birthday candles when you get old enough... use 13 stars to spell out "51"
Trump can't do probably 90% of the shit he Tweets, and or says. I wish that was the standard response from the media so people would realize half the shit Obama did he was not supposed to do either, and got shot down by the Supreme Court for much of it. What was it 18 times? Enumerated powers and all that silliness in the constitution needs to become a mainstream topic.
I'm not holding my breath though.
Anyone living in DC can move down the road 2 miles to VA or MD and have that "representation" they crave so much.
Or just give it to VA or MD.
Meh, it's all a bullshit ploy to give Dems 2 more Senators, 1 more Representative, and 3 more Electoral College votes.
Exactly. Which is why incorporating it into a state would give them "representation" but would be rejected, because that's not what they really want.
The Virginia portion of DC already went back to Virginia in the 1840s,, so there's precedence for the Maryland portion to do likewise if they really want representation.
New York to clamp down on hate crimes after Muslim officer attacked
Just like the 7year minimum for even bumping into a train-worker in NY.... this isn't about "hate" - its about 'disrespecting servants of the state'. The one thing they won't tolerate is 'little people' fucking with the union-class.

Story of Ohio Jihadi-tard is interesting for one detail = The person who lured him in and nabbed him? was another muslim who was trying to reduce the sentence on his own terror-related case.
"Just because I am a Muslim or have a beard doesn't make me a terrorist." It just increases the odds.
You know who else conceded an election?
Hillary Clinton in a parallel universe?
The Jews who burned down the Reichstag and blamed black people.

I'm very tech savvy, but loath self-checkouts.If I buy 6 cans of pumpkin, I have to scan each can instead of just taking one can and running it over the scanner. It's easier just to have a cashier ring me up.
/1st world problems.
The Giant grocery store near me had a good setup, two "quick" self-checkouts with a small ledge next to the bags bags, and four "long" self-checkouts with full belts, where your items would collect at the end of the belt where the bags were.
They tore them all out and put in eight of the "quick" kind which sounds better (8 is more than 6) but actually sucks (good luck with more than a couple items). The last time I was there, three of the eight were out of service to boot.
Now imagine buying 12 little cans of Fancy Feast.
Ok. Go on...
Neither here nor there =
I just came across Boomerang for Gmail. Everyone should have this. it just replaces some of those features that Google should have built-in anyway, but which you forget about when they're not there. I've had it for like a week and used it every day. great plug
Is it a client-side thing where you have to be logged in for the emails to send when scheduled?
I think so.
There is another plug-in solution that works for mail scheduling via google's own servers, so it will function while you're traveling or otherwise not on a computer.. You could probably run both simultaneously if need be; Boomerang has other features worth using as well.
My Favorite Movie Reviewer of All-Time....

I haven't even watched the whole thing yet, but i assure you, its worth it just for a few great lines.
How does self-checkout account for the bag tax in the areas that have them?
Honor system. No shit. The store rarely GAF.
In my local store, you have to scan the bag barcode.
WOW
here, its more or less an honor system. theres the guy who IDs you keeping an eye on that.
the register asks before letting you pay. of you pick 0, the guy looks from his perch.
at the full service one, they chargethe same for paper. i tried to argue it, didn't get far.
"Japan's prime minister is planning a visit to Pearl Harbor with President Barack Obama, the first Japanese leader to do so."
Well, it's about time an American President apologized to the Japanese for Pearl Harbor, isn't it?
LOL
I laughed. That's good!
If we ever had a President who would do it, Barack is our man.

Don't matter - they're gonna lose.
I just realized that I hadn't been back to talk food since Thanksgiving!
I had started by wet-brining the turkey for 3 days, and then dry brining it (salt/herb mix under the skin with oil) for 2 more days. It was a kitchen sink kind of brine. I literally just sniffed all of my spices and chose the holiday scents.
Anyway, I ended up overcooking the turkey, but it was still really moist and well seasoned. I thought it was a touch salty, but everybody else loved it. The wet brine was definitely worth it. It saved my ass when I accidentally got the turkey up to 185*
I also made my own cream of mushroom soup for the green bean casserole. This was the hit of the holiday! It was creamier and more flavorful than using the canned crap, and it really shone through. I also added a thin layer of bread crumbs so that the crispy onions stayed crispy.
You have to post your recipe for the homemade cream of mushroom, and then also the recipe for the casserole again sometime. You don't have to do it now, of course, but have it prepared so I can bug you for it sometime in the future. Thanks!
Here's the cream of mushroom recipe (it's based on this one) :
The green bean casserole recipe was fairly simple:
*add ~2 cans of green beans to a casserole dish
*pour cream of mushroom soup over top of the green beans
*put a small layer of bread crumbs over top of the green beans
*chill overnight
*add 2 containers of crispy onions to the top of the green beans
*bake at 350 for 40 minutes
Fantastic. Thanks!
OT: The Trump Derangement Syndrome continues, with navel-gazing into how Not-Power Girl will survive the evil Trump.
The night after the US election, like a lot of people, I was looking for some light escapism. It seemed the perfect time to catch up Supergirl; what better show to hide away from the state of the world with than one that's been hailed for its optimism and progressive values since the release of its first trailer? I'd fallen behind on the series, so I ended up starting with an episode that had first aired in September. "Welcome to Earth" revolved around a female, Hispanic president signing an immigration reform bill into law.
Suddenly, I was right back in the real world. What had been cautiously optimistic when the episode had premiered just a few weeks before was now upsettingly fantastical. In the wake of Donald Trump's win, a pro-immigration woman of color being elected president seemed less realistic than the alien trying to kill her.
Needless to say, it was derpy and somewhat funny. Interestingly enough, I managed to get a warning in the comments section because of "trolling", sometimes towards obvious trolls, LOL.Can't warm up the echo chamber in these opinion piece; it melts the snowflakes.
Alternate headline: Emotionally crippled girl retreats into escapist propaganda when she doesn't get her way.
what better show to hide away from the state of the world
As if that isn't a textbook example of how Hollywood shitlibs push their agenda.

Sometimes when I hear the term "productive" I think of the crap that comes out of my face when I have a sinus infection. Also, I didn't even recognize that picture as Al Gore. He's piled on a few years.

Did you ask them to name the law that makes that illegal?
He is a brilliant guy. To hear a bunch of millenial liberal arts majors who write for blogs criticize him is a bit rich.
Warrior monk indeed.
His Uncommon Knowledge interview is really good.
Yeah nothing to lean from past military actions. That must be why the Army does staff rides for battles such as Brandywine (Revolution) and Gettysburg where flanking actions, piss-poor recon, etc. etc. are still lessons than today's officers need to learn.
But Knobloch could at least still hit.
I enjoyed that. He's an asshole.

Steve Sax. Couldn't throw to first from his second base position due to a mental block.
I wouldn't classify John Robb as a "millennial liberal arts major."
A.) I do. I already have my Kukri from Nepal.
B.) How do you know I collect knives?
I would not either. But I am still with Mathis on this one. I would classify Robb as a clever snake oil salesman.
Who was the guy for the Habs who walked on the moon and shut down the Capitals a few years ago in the playoffs? I don't think I have heard anything about him since.
Luongo, for a while
Brian Elliott, maybe
Knife collecting is one of my hobbies too. I'm just starting to get into the mid to high end knives. Pricey but some of them are works of art. And stabby too, don't forget that. Fun fact, both my German and Irish ancestors have a similar stabbing/game of chance(cards I think) that led them to flee to America.
Anyone want to play a friendly game of 5 card draw? *sharpens knife
HM, I've only been around a couple of years and I knew it.
Hell, you've linked to knives as I recall
