University Bullied Students to Change 'America' Theme Party Because Trump Won
America party 'provides an opportunity for students to dress or behave in a way that offends or oppresses others.'

In the wake of Donald Trump's victory, some students and administrators at Loyola University Maryland aren't feeling very American anymore. As a result, they put pressure on the student-government to change its "America" theme party for seniors to something less "alienating, divisive, and harmful."
The theme was chosen last summer, long before Trump captured the White House. But the morning after Election Day, some students immediately began re-thinking the theme.
According to The Daily Caller, one female student told Loyola's Student Government Association that she felt like "a victim of horrible hate words," and expected to be re-traumatized at the party. The university administration intervened as well, pressuring SGA to change course.
"None of it is positive and it sounds very alienating, divisive and harmful," said Executive Vice President Susan Donovan in an email. "We have made progress in providing a welcoming climate on campus and do we want to reverse that progress with a theme that divides us?"
Dean of Students Sheilah Horton fretted that the America-themed party "provides an opportunity for students to dress or behave in a way that offends or oppresses others." She noted that even one negative event could cause the entire community to feel unsafe.
That's all according to emails obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller.
Administrative efforts failed: the party took place as planned on November 18.

Today I learned that there's a "Loyola University Maryland ".
Meanwhile at Loyola in New Orleans, the students are too drunk to care.
Still home to Walter Block, as it happens. Triggering!
Isn't Loyola Maryland home to Tom DiLorenzo?
Not only students, but also professors need to be protected from "speech" that can make them feel uncomfortable. This is especially true at institutions like New York University, where so much depends on the very delicate relations that characterize the communal bonds between administrators and faculty. Surely no one here would dare to defend the outrageous "First Amendment dissent" of a single, isolated judge in America's leading criminal "satire" case? See the documentation at:
https://raphaelgolbtrial.wordpress.com/
The tuition is $44,000.
Second tier Jesuit colleges are awful expensive. That's why I stick with the third tier.
That's why I stick with the third tier.
Samesies.
That explains the crying.
Administrative efforts failed: the party took place as planned on November 18.
Well? Was she re-traumatized?

Best response ever!

"Administrative efforts failed: the party took place as planned on November 18."
Kudos.
University still standing?
1,000 students committed suicide and blamed the party. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw a text saying it happened.
No sister, brother*, or ghost* costumes at Halloween. Also, no parties.
*twice as problematic
Just looked it up. Total cost of attendance for 1 year at "Loyola Maryland" is $59,925.
Seems legit.
It has been around forever, legit in the sense that it is a traditional private university that rips off it's students.
well parents are gullible enough to pay for their kids expensive party school, all so they can brag about what a prestigious school their kid goes to.
you send an idiot to an expensive school, isn't gonna turn water into wine
If you're paying full price at a private college then you're doing it wrong.
Ah, you can also google. My brother went there. Go Greyhounds!
What's the school mascot, a guy dressed as a bus?
Beep-beep! Go Greyhounds!
You can probably Presbyterian them down.
Dean of Students Sheilah Horton fretted that the America-themed party "provides an opportunity for students to dress or behave in a way that offends or oppresses others."
I believe that opportunity exists regardless given they dress themselves every morning.
The girl who complained is offending me. What are you going to do about her, Dean Horton?
"Opressing," like bullying, is a word that should be scrubbed from every adult's language. It's infantilizing.
No it's not.
Eliminating perfectly good words from our vocabulary won't prevent self entitled idiots from acting like self entitled idiots. It will merely alter how they express their self entitlement.
I'm not saying memory hole it, just that it has no place in everyday dialogue unless your everyday dialogue involves discussing third-world dictators, Erdogan, Russia, the Venezuelan economy, etc. Of course the word has a place, but not a place in relation to college parties and how strangers dress. For one thing it's a hysterical overreaction, but for another it robs the "oppressed" of any responsibility for standing up for themselves.
Hysterical? That's from a time when doctors blamed women's actions on their uterus. Are you mansplaining?
/sarc, for clarity.
No, the word did nothing wrong.
I mean, It does work correctly when I say ISIS is oppressing the people trapped within its borders with the restrictive rules of Sharia. So discarding the word because some coddled twats misuse it just makes you the bully.
I'm not going to let you bully me out of my opinion.
We are definitely infantilizing our college student - I lay the blame squarely on my generation.
My son currently attends West Point (thank you all you taxpayers) ? twice a semester at WP they have what is known as "Thayer Week." During this week the entire Corps of Cadets will have Saturday morning inspections / an Army Physical Fitness Test / 12 mile ruck with full packs / additionally every professor has loaded up on quizzes, tests, papers due, and extra lab work during this week. This reasoning behind this exercise is to make sure that everyone "fails" at something. By failing a cadet learns from his mistakes, learns the value of being prepared beforehand, and also learns how to manage the most important resource they have ? time.
No participation trophies or safe spaces allowed.
Unbeleivable that Obumbles hasn't done something about that, an oversight that he will be kicking himself for I am sure.
I'd wager he doesn't know it happens. He's not the most well-informed, and it never makes the papers.
"...never hits the papers..."
I laughed.
or ESPN
Suthenboy,
To go even further illustrate the "no safe spaces" mentality at West Point - after the Winter Holiday Dinner, the entire corps, some 4500 strong, head outside to the courtyard where (gasp!!) 90% light up a cigar and have an after dinner smoke. This is a long held tradition - when 4000 stogies are being fired up, the cloud emitted is glorious.
Having been enlisted, many of them need to relearn this lesson after commissioning.
I believe that opportunity exists regardless given they dress themselves every morning.
I think that depends on the degree of oppression. Red Hat Of Oppression +12 is exceedingly rare. Because of the commonality and worthlessness I assume pretty much everybody's free to wear Depressed Pantsuit Of Commanding as they please.
I guess I like some of their songs, but their lyrics make no damned sense.
It bothers me that this got no response. Y'all suck.
just name the damn horse already!
"...she felt like "a victim of horrible hate words," and expected to be re-traumatized at the party..."
Well, she should feel like a blithering idiot.
Just curious. Has anyone here ever been victimized by hate words?
I've been called all kinds of hateful shit by all kinds of people, but I have never considered myself victimized. It's like these twits have the emotional maturity of a toddler.
When I was 7, in the Swissair lounge in Frankfurt's international airport, II was punched in the gut by a similarly aged african kid who called me a "yankee". His mortified and furious mother descended on him and dragged him off before he could do anything else. Then she spanked him in a corner in front of an approving or disinterested audience.
Hey, I love that lounge, all the waitresses dress like they're the St. Pauli Girl.
Sorry you have a bad memory of the place.
Other than the mean kid, it was a lovely place. I remember it had a great play area with a fair number of interesting toys.
I was pretty disappointed when my mom told me it was time to leave to catch our flight to the U.S.
I was once an enlisted Marine. There's nothing left anyone can call me that I haven't been called before. It's like walking around with a full suit of armor made of foot-thick Kevlar. It's why I am so consistently baffled and disgusted by the snowflakes - they are utterly incomprehensible to me.
I have the same sort of insulation, but I got mine by being a high school soccer referee for five years.
My son just survived / graduated from / Naval OCS. To talk to him, first he couldn't believe what his Marine Drill Sargent was doing to him, then feared him, then hated him, and eventually respected him for the process he went through during his 12 weeks of special hell designed to turn him into a Navy officer.
I had similar experiences in the Army. I was a scrawny 135 when I reported to basic. A drill told me it would be better for the Army if he beat my skinny cracker ass to death rather than waste the time trying to make me a soldier. They push your buttons to weed out those who can't keep their emotions in control.
I was held over a day after graduation. They treated me differently because I proved I could handle the abuse. I also gained 15 pounds in 8 weeks.
I think not being that popular in high school was good for me. Then, having done manual labor like painting houses, I focused on achievement. There is nothing like actual achievement to help you not give a damn what people think of you. One thing most of the "victims" seem to have in common is that they are getting a worthless degree with inflated grades. Fake achievement doesn't make you feel confident.
In high school a girl told me i looked like the guy from Ferris Bueller's Day Off... and I was like all, "Yeah I do look a little like Matthew Broderick"... and she goes, "No...what'shisname.... Cameron...."
and somewhere a sad trombone played.
"When GILMORE was in Egypt's land...let my GILMORE go."
GILMORE's secret shame: His date saying "Is that what you're going to wear? Hmm, ok..."
AlmightyJB uttered horrible slander today about biscuits.
Administrative efforts failed: the party took place as planned on November 18.
It's like the administrators never saw Animal House.
Or Mickey Mouse's Birthday Orgy.
Minnie pulling an infinite Pluto train was not something that should ever be forgot.
LOL, the butthurt is still going strong. Even industrial-strength salve can't sooth it.
The theme was chosen last summer, long before Trump captured the White House. But the morning after Election Day, some students immediately began re-thinking the theme.
Can you just imagine the screaming, if Hillary had won and someone had suggested "re-thinking the theme"?
These people are so stupid. At this point, I don't think Steven Colbert could do his old Daily Show shtick on a college campus. They really can't grasp irony or satire or really anything. College progressives seem to have devolved into an almost animal like state of intelligence and are incapable of higher orders of reasoning.
A restriction on alternate viewpoints does dull the wits.
Excluding unwelcome viewpoints is a small price to pay for being more inclusive and tolerant.
That was always the case John, its just becoming too obvious to ignore anymore. These people are indistinguishable from the insane.
they're intellectual inbreds
We should all be reminded that these aren't kids. They are adults and this is a college.
I keep thinking lately about how college students are retreating to safe spaces, hosting cry-ins, and playing with toys designed for children so they can feel better about a defeat in politics.
Some of their parents had a different view of the world. At eighteen they were handed a rifle and sent to fight in a far-off land. They were too busy trying not to die to have a cry-in. The "safe spaces" they dreamed of weren't to preserve First-Amendment-free zones but rather a place where rockets, mortars, IEDs, and machine-gun fire no longer dominated their every thought.
What a world we live in. The same world that some adults are infantilized while others have the privilege to go die in a war they never voted for. A world where children on one continent are taught to grow up in "fear" because a politician wasn't elected, and on another continent children know the very real fear of dying as a child soldier enslaved to a warlord. We twist the meaning of words until they mean nothing. What is "fear" if all it means now is that you don't always get what you want?
We are definitely infantilizing our college students ... and I lay the blame squarely on my generation.

"Executive Vice President Susan Donovan in an email. 'We have made progress in providing a welcoming climate on campus and do we want to reverse that progress with a theme that divides us?'"
I'm offended by Donovan, and her blatant lie that they have a "welcoming climate" because they obviously don't welcome those who support America or think differently than her.
They are happy to use government funding (loyola.edu/department/orsp/funding-sources) at our expense. I think it's time to let them earn their living the way most of us do: by satisfying their customers, instead of the politicians who they serve today. They certainly don't serve their students and inhibit them from growing up.
I can't even...
...finish your sentence?
...this diner table. Anyone got a coaster?
Administrative efforts failed: the party took place as planned on November 18.
I love a happy ending.
So, I must have missed the reports on the 19th; how many snowflakes were killed or injured by roving bands of Trumpkins wielding axes and spiked cudgels? Plus, I would like a report on how many later died in the hospital as a result of the vile, cruel, and evil affront to their sensibilities? It must have been in the hundreds, right?
Because all the snowflakes melted and their remains drained away, it was impossible to count the casualties.
Did it not occur to the snowflakes that they did not have to attend the hateful party? Or not attend a talk by a conservative? No, merely the existence of such an event is hurtful I guess.
Yes. It's so oppressive that people who don't agree with them are still alive. They won't be happy until they get a license to Do Something About That.
Unfortunately, due to lack of rifle range experience, they'd be more likely to hurt themselves than to achieve their goals...
Dress to impress oppress.
How do you oppress someone by dressing in a certain way, and how would election results influence that? These people seriously believe that the President dictates American culture. If they like the Prez, that's a good thing. If not, it's time to fight the power!
Hmm. Maybe if someone dressed as Wonder Woman, that would oppress Little Miss Whiny because that outfit, if worn by her, would make her look flabby?
Speaking of oppression at Uni, anyone following this? You've got a "debate" where it's 2 against 1 and the moderator is anything but neutral.
Sounds like the same guy who was linked here a while back trying to stay calm while arguing for like a half hour outside his building with a pack of batshit insane progs on this very same issue.
"Refusing to call me a made-up pronoun is disrespectful!" &c &c
I don't think I could muster the kind of bravery required to stand up to this shit in a university setting.
My response would have been "Damn right it's disrespectful.... I don't respect you even a little bit."
"Respect is earned, and you're not behaving in a respectable manner."
Yeah, that's him. He's saying he won't pay the fine if the Canadian HRC decides he's earned one. Could get interesting.
Oh, the Human Rights Commission. I thought you referring to some sort of Canadian Hillary Clinton.
Maybe the right way to handle the Canadian HRC, is to find several thousand homeless people, and offer them free room, board and medical care, provided they go offend the Canadian HRC with hurtful comments about them, so they get thrown in jail. That should drain their resources and threaten their salaries.
And guess what - the homeless get food, shelter, and free medical care for awhile.
I'd just like to thank the various Indian tribes that lived on the land that my apartment building was built on.
Some university in MA put their flags at half-staff the day after the election. Then a few days later someone was spotted burned a flag, so they banned flags.
And these people are supposed to be our "allies" against Trump?
The enemy of my enemy can still be my enemy.
Think of them as the slow runners, you know from the joke "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you".
That's what Radley Balko has assured me, yes.
He's been so disappointing lately. Been marinating in the leftist fog at HuffPo and WaPo for too long, I suppose. He still does yeoman's work on the police abuse beat, so thank god for small favors I guess.
Balko especially needs to be reminded that these are infantile adults he's coddling.
I remember reading about a guy (cant remember his name) who was our spy against the Nazis before and during the war. He became so immersed in Nazi culture that he actually became a Nazi, yet he still spied for us. After the war the US government disavowed him because he had played his part too well.
He came back to the states and found himself a pariah. In an attempt to belong he attended an underground Nazi meeting. He said he sat there for five minutes looking around at who else was there and listened to the things they were saying and realized the only people left clinging to Nazism were fruitcakes, crazies, and square pegs and the things they were saying were batshit insane.
Have the proggies reached that point? It is starting to look that way.
"According to The Daily Caller, one female student told Loyola's Student Government Association that she felt like "a victim of horrible hate words," and expected to be re-traumatized at the party..."
How about, oh, I don't know.... don't attend the party?
What makes you think she was complaining? Being a victimized victim of victimizing victimization is a badge of honor with these folks.
I think that in any other country, these kids would have starved to death years ago. What an unimaginable luxury. To take offense at the theme of a party.
Have you seen other countries lately?
And starvation provides a great incentive to figure out how to take care of yourself.
Administrative efforts failed: the party took place as planned on November 18.
Hoo-fucking-ray. Fuck these people. With a studded club. A rusted, studded club. Claiming that a theme was fine one day and "triggering" the next because you didn't like the results of an election violates every basis for universities to claim any marginal status.
Not to mention which: what exactly is appropriate dress for an "America" themed party if not "whatever the hell I feel like 'cause I'm an American, godammit"? If you feel like you might be "triggered" by what other people are wearing, wear your own triggering outfit. I'd suggest going dressed as Donald Trump. Taking it up the ass from Hillary wearing a strap-on.
These PC SJW dumbasses are dead set on making Trump more popular, aren't they. Please tell me these fuckwits aren't actually this stupid...
I was just thinking, that I', going to end up liking Trump, in spite of myself, just because of these idiots.
USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
Fuck yeah!
The theme was chosen last summer, long before Trump captured the White House. But the morning after Election Day, some students immediately began re-thinking the theme.
They awoke that morning, like the Whos in Whoville, to discover that the Grinch (aka Donald J Trump) had snuck down the chimney and stolen all their hyphenations. Their Special-Americanness privileges had been rendered null and void. Oh, horror, oh infamy.
she felt like "a victim of horrible hate words," and expected to be re-traumatized at the party.
Is attendance at the party mandatory or something?
Dean of Students Sheilah Horton fretted that the America-themed party "provides an opportunity for students to dress or behave in a way that offends or oppresses others." She noted that even one negative event could cause the entire community to feel unsafe.
Every day I see people in custom painted cars with flashing lights, wearing costumes with badges and epaulets and carrying sidearms. Every encounter I've had with these people was a negative event and I'd wager that the entire community shares my feeling. I'm re-traumatized on a daily basis. I need a coloring book goddammit.
The only things being oppressed by the way I dress are my balls.
The party took place. Well, did anyone get the vapors or need a fainting couch?
Why is Reason reprinting anything from that right-wing gutter rag, the Daily Caller?
Ooohhh, a victim of horrible hate words! I'm sure the hearts of the victims of violence, war, and genocide just ber-leed for her!
Er, shud-d-up, y'dingbat.
