Jimmie Thorns has resigned from the Louisiana Tax Commission after a local TV station found he has not paid property taxes on a business property in New Orleans for some 30 years. Thorns currently owes $140,000 on the property.

Let me get a jump on Reason by posting this article about Ben Shapiro getting banned at De Paul University.

I come at this issue from a different perspective than the Reasonites - De Paul is a Catholic college bound by Papal decree to incorporate the Church's teachings into the entire educational program, including outside speakers.

So banning anti-Catholic speakers on that basis wouldn't really bother me, if that was what the college was actually doing.

But I suspect it's not Catholicism De Paul is enforcing, but political correctness.

To test this, let's take a look at other speakers who *weren't* banned.

IIRC Daniel Bell referred to the cultural contradictions of Capitalism - when, by virtue of work, sacrifice and deferred gratification, you make a pile of money, then the next generation, unless properly taught, will use the money, and the cushion it affords, to sample all sorts of alternative lifestyles which are harmful to the accumulation of wealth.

One of the things Edwards did that gave him the reputation for being over the top was loading all of his friends on an airliner and taking them on vacation on the taxpayer's dime. Even his supporters complained about that.
