Trump Won Because Leftist Political Correctness Inspired a Terrifying Backlash
What every liberal who didn't see this coming needs to understand

Many will say Trump won because he successfully capitalized on blue collar workers' anxieties about immigration and globalization. Others will say he won because America rejected a deeply unpopular alternative. Still others will say the country is simply racist to its core.
But there's another major piece of the puzzle, and it would be a profound mistake to overlook it. Overlooking it was largely the problem, in the first place.
Trump won because of a cultural issue that flies under the radar and remains stubbornly difficult to define, but is nevertheless hugely important to a great number of Americans: political correctness.
More specifically, Trump won because he convinced a great number of Americans that he would destroy political correctness.
I have tried to call attention to this issue for years. I have warned that political correctness actually is a problem on college campuses, where the far-left has gained institutional power and used it to punish people for saying or thinking the wrong thing. And ever since Donald Trump became a serious threat to win the GOP presidential primaries, I have warned that a lot of people, both on campus and off it, were furious about political-correctness-run-amok—so furious that they would give power to any man who stood in opposition to it.
I have watched this play out on campus after campus. I have watched dissident student groups invite Milo Yiannopoulos to speak—not because they particularly agree with his views, but because he denounces censorship and undermines political correctness. I have watched students cheer his theatrics, his insulting behavior, and his narcissism solely because the enforcers of campus goodthink are outraged by it. It's not about his ideas, or policies. It's not even about him. It's about vengeance for social oppression.
Trump has done to America what Yiannopoulos did to campus. This is a view Yiannopoulos shares. When I spoke with him about Trump's success months ago, he told me, "Nobody votes for Trump or likes Trump on the basis of policy positions. That's a misunderstanding of what the Trump phenomenon is."
He described Trump as "an icon of irreverent resistance to political correctness." Correctly, I might add.
What is political correctness? It's notoriously hard to define. I recently appeared on a panel with CNN's Sally Kohn, who described political correctness as being polite and having good manners. That's fine—it can mean different things to different people. I like manners. I like being polite. That's not what I'm talking about.
The segment of the electorate who flocked to Trump because he positioned himself as "an icon of irreverent resistance to political correctness" think it means this: smug, entitled, elitist, privileged leftists jumping down the throats of ordinary folks who aren't up-to-date on the latest requirements of progressive society.
Example: A lot of people think there are only two genders—boy and girl. Maybe they're wrong. Maybe they should change that view. Maybe it's insensitive to the trans community. Maybe it even flies in the face of modern social psychology. But people think it. Political correctness is the social force that holds them in contempt for that, or punishes them outright.
If you're a leftist reading this, you probably think that's stupid. You probably can't understand why someone would get so bent out of shape about being told their words are hurtful. You probably think it's not a big deal and these people need to get over themselves. Who's the delicate snowflake now, huh? you're probably thinking. I'm telling you: your failure to acknowledge this miscalculation and adjust your approach has delivered the country to Trump.
There's a related problem: the boy-who-cried-wolf situation. I was happy to see a few liberals, like Bill Maher, owning up to it. Maher admitted during a recent show that he was wrong to treat George Bush, Mitt Romney, and John McCain like they were apocalyptic threats to the nation: it robbed him of the ability to treat Trump more seriously. The left said McCain was a racist supported by racists, it said Romney was a racist supported by racists, but when an actually racist Republican came along—and racists cheered him—it had lost its ability to credibly make that accusation.
This is akin to the political-correctness-run-amok problem: both are examples of the left's horrible over-reach during the Obama years. The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast. I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision—like most members of the under-30 crowd, I have no problem with gender neutral pronouns—I say this because it inspired a backlash that gave us Trump.
My liberal critics rolled their eyes when I complained about political correctness. I hope they see things a little more clearly now. The left sorted everyone into identity groups and then told the people in the poorly-educated-white-male identity group that that's the only bad one. It mocked the members of this group mercilessly. It punished them for not being woke enough. It called them racists. It said their video games were sexist. It deployed Lena Dunham to tell them how horrible they were. Lena Dunham!
I warned that political-correctness-run-amok and liberal overreach would lead to a counter-revolution if unchecked. That counter-revolution just happened.
There is a cost to depriving people of the freedom (in both the legal and social senses) to speak their mind. The presidency just went to the guy whose main qualification, according to his supporters, is that he isn't afraid to speak his.

To the people behind the 'political correctness' movement, these are not different reasons.
This is an extremely important point.
Fact is, when we're dealing with leftist political correctness zealots, we aren't even speaking the same language.
Some of them are promising to leave the country. That would be a good start. Less progtards is always good.
Chief among the "politically correct" myths we have had enough of is, of course, the "free speech" baloney we keep hearing about from politicians. I have been saying for some time now that after the inauguration, the new administration will do what needs to be done to enact the will of the people and curtail, with whatever means necessary, some of the "expressive" language fouling the air of our great cities and our electronic lines. Surely no one here would dare to defend the outrageous "First Amendment dissent" of a single, isolated judge in America's leading criminal Troll and "satire" case? See the documentation at:
http://raphaelgolbtrial.wordpress.com/
That documentation points precisely towards the direction our nation must take to become great again; not even the lib-tard New York Times would dispute the enormous value of the efforts of Manhattan prosecutors in this regard.

So come up with a different term. We're just talking past each other. To nearly everyone else, "political correctness" is just a VOLUNTARY code of conduct. You can say whatever the hell you want to. It's just that other people are also going to say what they think about.
That's called freedom of speech.
Now, to conflate that with hard limits on speech, you will solve nothing but using the term "political correctness." You will never get your point across and you will do nothing to resolve it.
Otherwise to say you'll get -rid- of political correctness is to enact the very limits on free speech that you claim to abhor.
Go suck an egg. When NYC can fine you for using the wrong pronouns, that might be an indicator it is no longer voluntary....
Surely you are not defending the "First Amendment dissent" of a single, isolated judge? Yes, if you use the wrong pronoun in an inappropriately deadpan "satirical" manner in New York, we will not only fine you, we will jail you. This is just the way it is in our great nation, and I don't see the "free speech community" (ha-ha-ha) saying anything about it. If people are too cowardly to stand up for everyone's "rights," then they should not be surprised when their own "rights" are appropriately restricted in accordance with the basic principles of ordered liberty.

On many college campuses, including government supported ones, freely saying non-politically correct things can get you disciplined if not kicked out. In Canada and several European countries it's literally against the law to be non-politically correct. There is (was) (will be) a movement to enact the same sort of laws here. There's a largish group of the population that actually believes that "hate speech" should be illegal and is not covered under the 1st Amendment ... and "hate speech" is whatever some person says makes them feel bad.
As long as we, as you say, truly are free to say whatever you like with no legal repercussions, then anyone can say whatever they like, no matter how politically correct or not and suffer no more than possible social reprobation. That is as it should be.
Unfortunately that's not the trend in the liberal camp and many have been publicly calling for actual laws against saying things that might make someone else uncomfortable based on nothing but their emotional response. It's been a growing call and supported by many in government itself.
Ok, here's the truth of it. Viktor Frankel having survived a concentration wondered why some survived and some not. He wrote a book "Man's Search for Meaning" wherein he penned these prescient words (para)... that no matter what people do to you, no matter the circumstance there is one freedom that can never be taken from you and that is the freedom to choose your own attitude. And I can't imagine that it's any other way.
So to speak truthfully, then, a person cannot say, "What you said offended me." They would have to say, "I choose to be offended by what you said." To which I might (probably) would reply, "And I don't choose to give a shit!"
Racism. From what I see on social media it would appear that few could claim to be without racism. But so what? Racism is a feeling, can be modified by education, but difficult to control, however, people do control their mouths and their hands so of what matter that a person feels racism if they choose not to deal those cards? Is it possible, why sure, it's called having integrity.
In Harper Lee's second book "Go Set A Watchman" we find that Atticus Finch really did have racist feelings and I thought him all the greater for having the integrity to do the right thing anyway but the not the libtards. They were up in arms that he wasn't pure in thought and soul as well as action. Sorry that's thought police time and over the line for me. That's political correctness.
Racism is also a voluntary code of conduct. My guess is you don't regard voluntary racism as being in the same category of social acceptance as voluntary political correctness.
If many people thought that compliance with liberal standards were voluntary, then we wouldn't be having this argument would we?
Not many people complain about kosher laws, despite bacon being delicious. Because being kosher actually is (and is perceived to be) voluntary.
I would believe that compliance with liberal diktat is voluntary if I could, without reasonable fear of legal consequences
1. make a joke about an ethnic group
2. express an unpopular opinion about ethnicity, class, or gender
3. refuse to participate in social functions I don't approve of
Until that happens -- and it's going to take more than Trump -- no, I and most people won't regard PC as "voluntary".
Which political correctness? The liberal, conservative or libertarian version of imposed conformity, Tribal Groupthink? All of which deny the fundamental tenets of individual liberty, individualism and nonconformity.
Leftists like the author love to label opponents as racists and nazis, showing their own ignorance of those words, not realizing that they are what they claim others are. There are several sites offering prizes to anyone who can produce a DJT clip of him actually saying a racist statement. None has had to pay. for the Elitist osut there, Mexico is a country and Islam is a 'religion' on the order of Scientology (sham). Nazis were big on there own version of PC, but less squeamish about actual organized violence. Best I qualify that last statement, the Soros-paid thugs are very SA in their methods of street violence.
Donal Trump avenged the Red Wedding! He is the orange wolf! THE KING IN THE NORTH AMERICA!
He's gonna build the Wall! And make the White Walkers pay for it!
LOL, thanks. Who will be the Black watch leader?... wait for it...
"The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast. I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision?like most members of the under-30 crowd, I have no problem with gender neutral pronouns"
You just can't help yourself, can you?
I don't have a problem with gender neutral pronouns either. My problem is that the left wants to criminalize hate speech (whatever that is).
On a side note, we shouldn't be opposed to "gender neutral" pronouns because of a threat to culture, or inclusiveness.
We should be opposed to the idea that adults think this is a political cause at all. Only to most petty children concern themselves with forcing other to speak doubleplusgood in their presence.
I oppose gender neutral pronouns because I oppose idiots talking politics.
It is a reflection on how far we have come as a society. We no longer have to worry about food and shelter; we have time and energy to make sure others are thinking correctly. It's a feature, not a bug.
You're gonna get you're mind right Luke!
To oppose gender neutral pronouns is thoughtcrime comrade!
Yes, some ideas must be eradicated. Conservative correctness must rule over all.
Conservatives are not threatening people with expulsion from college for wearing halloween costumes.
No, just prison terms, asset forfeiture and loss of second amendment rights for a plant...
Seems to me I heard that several states that voted for Trump also voted to legalize marijuana. Is that the plant you're talking about? And are you so damned sure it was "conservatives" who passed the laws against marijuana in the first place? Are you so ignorant of the history of Progressivism that you don't know that it was Marxist Progressives who pushed alcohol prohibition AND marijuana prohibition AND the 1914 Narcotics Act, because it is liberal Progressives who believe in micromanaging people's lives? The true "conservatives" were very happy with allowing Coca Cola to keep using their "original formula." It was LIBERALS who insisted that they change it.
James, I wish Reason was set up to vote on comments. In lieu of that let me say ^^^This +1000!
Both Democrats and Republicans misuse the word conservative all the time. In their classic meanings Democrats aren't liberal and Republicans aren't conservative. I pause to muse about how much better things would be if only they were.
Ah yes. At any rate, both are progressive in their own ways. And on the subject of the accuracy of words, progressives don't really want progress. They lust for power over others akin to that of a King. That wasn't progress in the past and won't be progress in the future.
This is why I always say we should force the progs out of America so we can save the country. They are nothing but a cancer.
Ahhh, so where's the freedom to espouse "progressive" values? If you want freedom of speech in the absolute sense, then it applies to all, no?
Yes. All the states that have legalized recreational marijuana save one voted Trump.
Yes it was a Republican who vetod the Volstead Act and a Republican who was the sitting president when prohibition was repealed.
Just kidding. Democrat is the right answer.
But you know if Denesh D'Souza makes a documentary claiming it is actually democrats that support prohibition or racism or anything else it must be the case.
I oppose gender neutral pronouns, and always will, because the imbeciles who push for them are no more qualified to tinker with the language than they are to tinker with the space shuttle. Rappers are better qualified to mess with the language. They at least know how to use it.
Gender neutral pronouns are shit. So is Robby. Just another progtard pretending to be a libertarian. If Reason wants to be Salon-lite, they should just say so.
I oppose gender neutral pronouns because the theory behind them is the pseudo-scientific Sapir Whorf hypothesis that language determines thought. Notably many languages - including Turkish, Persian and most dialects of Chinese - have used pronouns without gender distinctions for centuries, even millennia, yet the cultures that operate in those languages are not notably more "progressive" than German, a language with three gender pronouns or Japanese, where even first person pronouns are marked by gender and social status.
Thanks for the hat tip on the hypothesis. I had noticed the disconnect between grammatical gender and biological gender a long time ago but didn't know someone had already blurred the line between the two. Great ammo for future discussions.
Sapir-Whorf is one of those hypotheses that makes sense, but fails under empirical testing. There is evidence that it works at a very weak level, but that evidence is inconclusive and tells us nothing to indicate that using "xe" would make us less sexist.
Considering how well SW has been investigated and how it has consistently failed to work in an even moderately strong version, you'd think people would give up on it, but so many want to hear people talk the way they think they should think.
so many want to hear force people to talk the way they think they should think.
This is the real problem, natch. It's not so much that these people (SJWs) want to hear people talk the way they think they should, but they want to force people to do it. They can wish all they want that people would get in line and talk and think the exact same way they do, but that's an extremely childish worldview. Real, functioning adults can recognize that not everyone is going to think and speak the same way they do and find a way to cope with that diversity of thought, and hopefully come to realize that diversity of opinion is a net good for society at large. Only children pitch a fit every time someone disagrees with them.
Assholes(incl. cynical ones) exist and will exist until the universe collapses in on itself. This is the inherent problem that SJWs can't come to grips with.
I didn't realize there were roaming gangs of armed SJWs forcing you to use the word "zhe".
There is a law now on the books in NYC to that effect. They have roaming gangs of COPS to enforce it. Doesn't that scare you just a little, when you can't even know about the special snowflake's pronouns and there is not even a limited list of them? And when the "pronoun" stuff is nonsense anyway because what is at issue is not third person "he, she" but titles "Mr. Ms".
The NY you can be fined 250,000 for misgendering someone. In Canada it's about to be a hate crime.
Nonsense - where in Canada? There is a type of speech that qualifies as hate speech in Canada - and you have to jump through hoops to prove it. It is extremely difficult to prove hate speech here, and the number of times someone has been prosecuted for it - well I can't even remember the last time it was in the news - and it would be news.
Show me where this statute exists as you describe it and I'll eat my monitor, cable included (but not the webcam - that was expensive).
Ask Mark Steyn.
Canada needs to cleanse itself of it's progtards as well.
I like to joke "German nouns have genders, people have sexes". It's not strictly true, but based on the fact that until very recently, the word "gender", when applied to people was exactly synonymous with their biological sex. If you look at old dictionaries, there simply is no definition for "a feeling you have in your mind" or "role you play in society". The academics simply invented new meanings for the word in order to support a wacky theory, and then they told anyone who continued to use the original language that they were wrong!
Check it out, Webster's from 1828 on "gender":
http://webstersdictionary1828......ary/gender
In German, an unmarried woman is das Madchen (neuter). When she gets married, she becomes die Frau, (feminin). She gains her female side when she (supposedly) completes her biological imperative by getting married and having a child.
I don't know whether the Germans think like that now, but this is how it was explained to me 50 years ago.
You were misinformed. In German, das M?dchen means nothing more or less than "little girl"; it's directly analogous to our word "maiden." The word for woman, die Frau, simply indicates an adult, without regard to marital status. There's nothing special about the neuter gender of das M?dchen: the words for juveniles of almost any species are neuter, including das Kind, the generic word for "child." Heck, any word ending in -chen is neuter, -chen simply being a diminutive suffix signifying "little."
@rxc,
Yeah, @nonstopdrivel beat me to it (or I hadn't refreshed), but das M?dchen is just the diminutive form of die Magd (maid, female servant). Vowels generally take an umlaut (Magd ? M?d) and -chen suffix is appended. Gender always goes to neuter (das).
If you must twist that into commentary about sexism: a German colleague once told me that herrlich means 'admirable', where a fraulich means 'stupid', although I can't corroborate that in the two dictionaries I checked so it might be dialectic usage if true at all.
Thing is, and I suspect this is difficult for people for whom English is their first language and who didn't learn a foreign language (most of which use grammatical gender), grammatical gender is just a thing completely distinct from sex or psychological gender in the human sense. So far as I know, nobody whose first language has grammatical gender actually thinks that the thing represented by a noun has qualities resembling that noun's grammatical gender.
What is masculine about a table (der Tisch), feminine about a wall (die Mauer) or neuter about a room (das Zimmer)? Possibly Worf-Sapir might be right and that there is some subconscious carry-over in attitudes, but attitudes towards people are influenced by much more powerful forces than language.
What you were told 50 years ago may be more reflective of then-current attitudes with grammatical gender retrospectively fitted to explain it.
Heaven forbid should new ideas be introduced. What kind of free society does that?
Here's a new idea: fuck off.
Here's a new idea: Fuck off, slaver.
By "introduced" you mean enforced by jack booted thugs...fuck off slaver.
I hear lefties express a lot of stupid ideas every day. They should just stop. Soulless retards have no business expressing what they think passes for an 'idea'.
That's a key point that I'm not sure Soave gets: the left is after more than just denouncing politically incorrect views. It's about using force to "correct" those views.
*waves mutton leg and thumps tankard approvingly*
Hear, hear!
And having tantrums when they don't get their way. They need savage beatings.
Forcing someone to think or speak in a certain way is deplorable.
There are some exceptions - slander, "Fire" in a crowded theater, vicious threats that are taken seriously (which I believe is what the ban on hate speech is about). The concept here is that there are times when speech can cause harm. I think it's reasonable to police harmful speech.
All else is, and should be, freedom of speech - especially in the context of a political discussion such as this.
Using the term "political correctness" to describe suppression of thought or speech is very confusing to me. Surely there must be a better term to describe such acts.
Before reading this thread, I'd have thought that PC meant a polite way of speaking - e.g., saying "black person" instead of "nigger", or "physically challenged" rather than "cripple".
And I'm still not sure that there is any economic class or political group that has a consistent record of suppressing thought or speech.
People on both sides of all issues will always have ideas, and will always think they are right and that the other side is wrong. There's not much we can (or should, imo) do about that.
I agree that forcing one's opinion onto another is offensive and counterproductive. It breeds hate.
Unfortunately, it is also human nature, one that I have always tried to shift when I see it in myself. I hope that all of you reading this will do the same.
What's needed now is real dialog leading to understanding.
"real dialog leading to understanding"....what, on the interweb?
I don't have a problem with gender neutral pronouns either. My problem is that the left wants to criminalize hate speech (whatever that is)
Whatever that is? Simple - it's any speech they hate.
You seem to hate a lot their speech.
I am sad to share a name with you.
I don't have a problem with gender neutral pronouns either. My problem is that the left wants to criminalize hate speech (whatever that is).

the left wants to criminalize hate speech (whatever that is).
"Hate speech" = any opinion the left doesn't agree with.
It's just not as fun that you can't use the N word in polite company anymore, is it?
Oh, brother. You can get in trouble for far more than using the N word. Some campus put out a memo that a boy telling a girl to smile or that she was pretty is sexual assault. Saying anything against BLM is racist (even though they are engaged in politics and even rioting).
Most girls are okay with being told they're pretty as long as the guy doing it is attractive. There's a standard where attention from guys who are less than a 6 is harassment, but guys higher than 7 are paying a compliment.
Numnutz?
No thanks, I'm good, but you might ask Joe.
Ha ha ha. This article went right over this guy's fucking head. Go ahead and revert back to the "OMG RACIST!" rantings that put Trump in office. Don't worry about talking policy or any dumb shit like that. I'm sure it'll work out for you if you keep at it.
A Trump presidency brings an opportunity to create an environment completely toxic to progressives. Every progressive that leaves make the country that much better. Maybe even start a new version of HUAC to deal with them if we get enough traction.
Well that's not bitter or anything.
So much for creating a government for all Americans.
First I say that grinning like the Cheshire Cat, so not 'bitter'. More like gleeful (and cackling. Second, that IS creating a government for all Americans. Just not progressives. Progressives are not American, or even human, like you or I. They are soulless unclean things that must be cleansed from our country. When we don't, our freedoms are stolen. Better we have freedom instead of progressives.
Can someone define progressive for me?
I don't have a problem with gender neutral pronouns either. Anyone who wants to use them, go right ahead. I on the other hand will stick to the English language, and if it bugs you, tough fucking shit.
If you're a man and want to call yourself a woman, I have no problem with that whatsoever. Call yourself whatever you like. The second you start insisting that I do it, then we have a problem. I have my own problems and I don't force you to humor them, so I expect the same back from you.
But that's not how it works with SJWs. They cannot accept live-and-let-live. For them, it's live-make-live-like-I-want them-to-live.
I'll take my medicine this morning -- I said on this blog at least a dozen times that Clinton would be president, no doubt about it. I completely misread the extent of the damage leftists have caused. I was not a Trump supporter. Can't stand the guy and in some ways (not many) he's worse than Clinton would have been.
But I have relished the past 24 hours watching these snowflakes get "woke" to the horrifying reality that they aren't the majority, that the rest of the country does not and will not fall in line with their skewed worldview, and that no amount of swearing, fist-clenching, foot-stomping, tearful tantrum throwing is going to change that. Welcome to the world snowflakes and God save you, if it is right He should do so.
Oh baloney! Clinton won more votes than Trump. Millions more voted for third parties and millions more chose to sit this out than to vote for either.
So yes, the majority -does- indeed agree with us. But it's the electoral college that will decide the president, not the people.
And in our Federal Republic that's how it should be.
Johnson supporters are all social just warriors heh? Let me guess, you must live in the Bay Area.
There are likely very few people who even had Clinton on the radar when they voted for Johnson. If the election were only two candidates, I would've voted for Trump?especially with SCOTUS appointments on the line. Sorry. And if you add those votes in, he would've won the popular vote too.
Plus, subtract out the couple of million (or more) phony votes from illegals, voter fraud, etc.. Then also subtract the amount voting for Clinton based on media bias. After that, Trump is ahead by several million.
Half the fun of being trans is seeing how people refer to you on their own without any prompting on your part. I have no problem with you referring to me as a man if that's what you think I am. I'm not going to spaz on you. It's cute when guys think I'm a real girl.
I think the real problem is transtrenders and noncommittal transgender folks ruined this for everyone. There are two genders, and being transgender is about transitioning between them. Or it was until literally this decade, so at the very least we can say there's nothing wrong with the pronouns "he" and "she" when it's comes to transgendered people. Nowhere in that line of reasoning is their a need for any kind of special, neutral gender. That's where the noncommittal wannabe androgynes come in who don't want to transition but do want to be treated differently for being nonconformist.
I'm polite. I'm nice. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. I'm not going to get up in your butt about you saying the wrong thing to me. I guess being a decent person means very different things to different people. I always thought it was about not imposing your will on others, and not being imposing in general. Ion't understand why so many trans people think it's better to be a total cunt to people who don't do what they want them to than to just adjust their own behavior and expectations of others. -_-
+1 BlairWhite
*would like/upvote if I could*
+2 BlairWhite
Blair White is fucking awesome.
While it's certainly not the same, I've had long hair before and was referred to many times while working at Target as miss. I thought it was hilarious when I turned around with a beard and the "guest" seemed flustered. So yeah, if I were trans, I'd would agree that it's half the fun.
Let me also be clear: I am not singling out transgendered folks -- that was just the example I picked out of many. I have no problem or disrespect for trans, gay, furry, Methodist, Canadian, or any other group. As long as you aren't hurting anyone else, live your life in any way you see fit. Everyone just needs to extend that courtesy back in our direction as well.
Hate speech, for those not in the know, is when you refer to the girl in the sundress and stilettos who's hitting on you as 'she' because you didn't realize that she's a non-gender conforming man trapped in the body of a hot chick with real nice legs.
You heteronormative cis-shitlord.
Said no one ever.
Awww, proggie tears, so many this morning......will sustain me for years !!!
Clinton the racist warmonger lost. Get over it.
I have no issue with gender neutral pronouns either. I call all transgendered people 'it.' Woke is me.
The left categorizes any speech with which they disagree as hate speech. Merriam-Webster:" Full Definition of politically correct: conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated." Note the language... "which COULD offend" and "should be ELIMINATED." The left uses "political correctness" to try to force their vision of society on everyone.
There is a very interesting video (less than 15 min. long) about the origin and narrative of political correctness at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrt6msZmU7Y
Say it with me now: if your shitty party had chosen someone like Jim Webb, he would have swept the election. It's Her turn for...a Romney-style defeat. NPR is showering me with goodness right now.
Sure, I would have voted for Jim Webb but I'm not a Democrat. They have no interest in anyone not batshit crazy.
Shit, if you had changed Clinton or Trump with anyone else and left the other, the election would have been decided long ago.
They wouldn't even have to go as far as Webb, who a lot of Republicans could stomach as president. Even Martin friggin O'Malley could probably have dispatched Trump with ease.
that's not goodness stupid!
Don't other me
I'm a registered Libertarian and I would have voted for Jim Webb. I'd vote for Jim Webb in the next one. He's what the Democratic party was before it was taken over by Progressives.
If they had convinced Biden to run, with Warren as VP, he would have emulsified Trump. He'd not only have gotten all the states Obama did, but probably would have flipped Georgia, Arizona, and Indiana too.
Bet these fuckers are regretting letting Hillary talk him out of running now.
Biden had an enormous amount of personal things to deal with and didn't want to run. No one talked him out of it.
Heck, if they'd just run Biden on the exact same platform as Clinton, they'd probably have won.
People like Biden.
Not to mention 4+ more years of Biden stories from The Onion would have been EPIC.
meh, I think Robby's way off on this one. Trump won Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. He couldn't have done that without some union votes crossing over. He won on the trade and immigration arguments, the ACA, and on Clinton's absolutely lousy candidacy.
As Hoffer said, the New Poor are the ones you have to watch out for.
Indeed, if you look at the NYT map for "Change from 2012" you can see that Trump's support came heaviest from union strongholds. It is far more plausible, based on recent history, that the election was a referendum on the economy moreso than political correctness. The national Dems have abandoned blue collar working people and it shows.
Clinton got crushed in WVA. Absolutely destroyed. That's an economic vote if I've ever seen one.
It was pretty fucking stupid of her to go into coal country and say she was going to put coal miners out of business. That's right up there with Fritz Mondale promising a tax hike.
-jcr
She wasn't even smart enough to promise a way out of the mess for the unemployed. Even Bill understood that you have to project sympathy for them and give them hope. She just told them "tough shit, we don't want you". So they returned the favor.
But being anti-carbon and anti-coal is not just the current leftist, progressive policy, it's the politically correct policy as well. Failure to support the warmist, enviromentalist line on coal isn't just a policy disagreement; it's wrongthink.
Margaret Thatcher's policies put coal miners out of work too - and look as how different the reaction was to her policies, compared to those of Clinton (and Obama, for that matter).
THIS is an excellent point. What a beautiful comparison.
I didn't realize science = political correctness.
Good to know that libertarians are just as anti-science as Republicans.
You mean, like the science that tells you human life doesn't begin till birth?
And that CO2 is somehow a pollutant.......
I didn't realize science = political correctness.
Good to know that libertarians are just as anti-science as Republicans.
I didn't realize science = political correctness.
Good to know that libertarians are just as anti-science as Republicans.
Or perhaps you can take your mind beyond proggie think and see that Hillary said something to a group who then didn't vote for her. Action --> Reaction.
No, the ignorant retard anti-science group are the progtards. There have never been more of an ignorant bunch of stupid shitsacks in all of human existence.
Ditto KY.
Show lost over 4 pts from Obama 2012. Less than 33% in a state that has had a Democratic State House for my enitre lifetime+.
Until this year: she may have cost the Ds the state house (may, in that it has been trending that way for 30 years).
GOP went from a minority to at least 62/100 seats.
Bevin just got a free pass to do whatever he wants as Governor.
1921 was when the Ds took over the state house. They had 65 members as recently as 2010.
That change map basically indicates that the Democrats didn't carry anything outside of urban centers. They fucked up.
True. Look at Minnesota. It is not being talked about much because Hillary won that state but with just less than 47% of the total vote, but look at the vote by county. It is a sea of red outside of the Twin Cities' counties and around Duluth and Rochester. Trump won many of these counties by 2 to 1. When you are a Democrat and you loose historically Democrat-Farmer-Labor counties at that level there needs to be some self reflection. But I doubt that will happen.
Same thing in WA. Seattle and its immediate urban satellites turn the whole state commie.
He won in different places for different reasons. The protectionism no doubt propelled his wins in the Rust Belt, but he couldn't have won without the traditional GOP regions which were motivated by reasons closer to what Robby is talking about.
I'd say traditional GOP regions were voting against the Hillbot. The GOP could have put Howdy Doody in there and Clinton would have lost. She was just a horrible candidate.
not to mention being a HORRIBLE person!
Yep, pure evil. And now we will get a real AG that will appoint a special prosecutor to go after her. Without cover, the Clintons are in deep trouble.
I'd be ok with just letting them walk off into the sunset. I'd even be ok with Trump pardoning her.
I'm just glad she's done.
I think this is pretty spot on. Anti-PC and anti-corruption got the traditional base to come home, but the blue collar moderates put him over the top.
Didn't Trump end up with fewer votes than Romney? I think that says all you need to know about what happened here. "Go away, Hillary; nobody likes you."
What anti-PC did mainly was lower Clinton's margin of victory in states she carried, which is where the oppression of PC is mostly felt. So it didn't contribute to her defeat.
Hilarious that you're willing to put one of the worst candidates for libertarian ideas in the White House simply because some philosophy grad from Cal bent you the wrong way.
Yes, the third-least libertarian candidate in the race beat the second-least. And it's all my fault even though I didn't vote for him and live in a state that was called for Hillary with ~1% of the precincts reporting in.
Hilarious that you're the traditionally conservative base is willing to put one of the worst candidates for libertarian ideas in the White House simply partially because some philosophy grad from Cal bent you the wrong way those with the most access to the levers of power openly despise them and what they hold dear.
FTFY.
Hey man, libertarian ideas simply don't play at the level of a national presidential election, at least not in any untempered form. Three percent of the vote simply doesn't get you anywhere. The practical libertarians are therefore going to pick one of the candidates who might actually win that they think is a little more friendly to their ideas than the other one. In fact, if all libertarians thought that way and leveraged their three percent (plus whatever number are getting counted among the other parties already), they could bargain and perhaps get more of their ideas included in a major party platform in exchange for helping them in the presidential elections.
Now that strategy isn't going to help realize some dream of getting a pure libertarian in the White House, but at least it would accomplish something, which is better than accomplishing nothing every four years.
I'm glad the "third parties" are there. I'm tired of the logjam of the big two.
I think the great thing about being politically correct must be purposefully ignoring incorrect morons like the people here. They won't be listen or learn from this.
Rico, I'm under 30 too. Knock off your "millennial-splaining." Beyond your concessions to knee jerk left, though, you nailed it.
Haha millenial-splaining. I like it.
Full disclosure: i am a millenial.
Get off my lawn *Just turned 30 in September*
lol I know you weren't referencing me but I turned 30 in sept too.
millenials are so fucking loud and obnoxious that I would guess that the politically incorrect ones just do what I do and stay quiet.
I'm 29 for a little longer but I have the personality of a grumpy "get off my lawn" 70 year old man.
Bobby is very young.
I am in the oldest Millennial cohort, and Soave might as well be from another planet.
But yeah, Robby needs to harden the fuck up real quick, before he ends up like Weigel.
The oldest in the Millenial cohort are often improperly tagged as such. In my experience, culturally speaking, Gen-X doesn't really give way to Millenials until mid-80's births.
I was born in '83 and me and the majority of mine and my brother's friends (born '78 - '84) fit pretty neatly in the Gen-X paradigm. My wife was born in '86, and she's much more Gen-X than most of her friends. My sister was also born in '86 and is most definitely a Millenial.
I don't know what you're talking about.
Do you want some artistanal water I put into a mason jar with a label tied on with twine?
Robby is a fucking retard. This article really shows it. Especially his proggy-sympathising positions.
I'm surrounded by puny mortals.
You don't have to make the alt-text so politically correct.
Agree with the majority of this article.
Trump himself is kind of a hilarious vehicle for striking back against those who would persecute those with "wrong" opinions, given his promises of adjusting libel laws to punish his enemies, but I get it.
It's not about left vs. right in any meaningful sense of the word.
It's elitist left vs. populist left. The latter succeeded in explaining that the former is by design unable to provide sufficient bullying opportunities for every wannabe busybody (which is technically true but doesn't mean populists will).
I like this. this is a decent explanation of things.
I'd leave out "left" altogether. The political climate in America has gone full horseshoe.
On the Ds, its the liberals vs the progressives.
And the progressives drove the liberals to Trump (or somewhere).
It's even elitist libertarians vs. populist libertarians, elitist "conservatives" vs. populist "conservatives". It's just plain elites vs. the popular.
This article is exactly right, and I almost shared it on FB, 'til I got to the line about Trump being a racist. He's really not. You're quite wrong on this. (I am not a Trump fan, but you are being as hysterical as the liberals here.)
Another thing you get wrong is praising Maher. He's STILL getting it wrong!! He's claiming that Trump will be the last president, and there will never be another election. He learned nothing. He's still crying wolf. He's a loser.
Soave doesn't truly object to the effort to try to dictate thought from the top down as being wrong simply for its own sake. His objections are 100% strategic-based; he doesn't like it simply because he knows it's counterproductive to getting his agenda enacted faster.
He's as much of a SJW lefty as the people he's criticizing here; he's just a much better and smarter disciple of Alinsky than most of his fellow stupid Millennials.
I think that's a bit harsh DD.
I don't know what age cohort you are. I'm 30 now and I'm telling you that the popular culture indoctrination (not just in schools, but mostly in schools) is so much worse now than when I was in school just a few years ago.
Sure Robby's tacit acceptance of political correctness is super annoying, but he's a product of the times and sometimes actually tries to think for himself.
I do not think it harsh at all.
Soave has a clearly identified track record of extending proggs the benefit of the doubt. And when one is caught across the line he decries any attempts at broad brushing their collective.
Yet when presented with anyone opposed to the progg agenda he's quick to assign bad motives and false agendas.
"I have watched students cheer his theatrics, his insulting behavior, and his narcissism solely because the enforcers of campus goodthink are outraged by it. It's not about his ideas, or policies. It's not even about him. It's about vengeance for social oppression."
Amazing what Soave can glean from mere observation.
I don't find it harsh at all.
Robby has an already noted track record of this sort of thing. He gives proggs every benefit of the doubt, and when one is caught across the line he actively resists any sort of broad brushing of their collective.
Yet, when faced with anyone in opposition to the progg cause his response is reflexively opposite.
"I have watched this play out on campus after campus. I have watched dissident student groups invite Milo Yiannopoulos to speak?not because they particularly agree with his views, but because he denounces censorship and undermines political correctness. I have watched students cheer his theatrics, his insulting behavior, and his narcissism solely because the enforcers of campus goodthink are outraged by it. It's not about his ideas, or policies. It's not even about him. It's about vengeance for social oppression."
Amazing how much Soave can know merely by watching.
I think it's fair to say Trump is racist against Mexicans. Against other groups it's basically speculation, but for Mexicans, I mean, he kinda just came out with it (assuming here that 'ethnicity-based prejudice' meets the definition of racism, e.g., in the sense that one can be racist against Italians or Swedes).
And yes, Maher is doing it again. As I've said before, Trump is not a Mussolini. He's a Berlusconi. He is a national embarrassment, not a national disaster.
When did Mexican become a race?
I can see him being prejudiced or bigoted but "racist"? No.
Words mean things, as mentioned elsewhere.
Here's an article to share on FB: "News Flash: Political Correctness Makes Trump President." It has a great line: "Hillary Clinton is trapped in a politically correct box and Donald Trump is sitting on the lid." It's on hardthinking.com.
I agree with you about the racism label, it was idiotic to pin it on Trump. Clinton should have said he's got some good ideas but he's a Monday morning quarterback and can't do the job. Then she should have said we do need to limit the number of guest workers we have in the country and regulate the whole "imported worker" enterprise.
But she would have been shouted down by the PC nazis. It may be that Trump's election was inevitable.
What about non-liberals who didn't see this coming? Asking for a friend.
yeah, no not really as others have commented above he won because of how terrible Hillary was and the strength if the middle finger vote. It was about the elites vs the proles for most people.
but when an actually racist Republican came along
And, Froot Sooshi goes right ahead and assumes Trump is racist because all the media and the Democrats said so, without providing actual serious evidence of this alleged racism. Congratulations, Robby, you're part of the problem.
I couldn't agree more. So tired of hearing this inane "Trump is a racist" unsubstantiated bullshit. And that's not what I come to Reason to read.
Perhaps not. But he's more than happy to give rise and power to racists, that's for sure.
The Haircut gets it.
You be woke, Roberto.
At least gun and ammo prices will probably go down. It's would be kind of shocking if the NRA and the gun industry didn't give money to some pro-Clinton PAC with how well their sales have been the last 4 years.
Idle are you retarded?
I mean seriously, if the NRA gave money to the clintons it would be the end of their organization forever.
Sure Hillary winning would boat short term sales but long term when people found out about it they would lose their collective shit.
On youtube:
Stephen Colbert Signs Off on the 2016 Presidential Election | Live Election Night | SHOWTIME
In my social-media feeds, right on cue, Team Blue blamed Libertarians for Trump's victory, and Team Red blamed us for the fact that Trump didn't win biglier.
Talk like that must make his Bishop proud. Not just Catholic, but so very Christian!
"And you'll bake the fucking CAKE!"
My liberal critics rolled their eyes when I complained about political correctness.
But who's rolling his eyes now, Robby? Who's rolling his eyes now?
Trump is a pushback on political correctness, on globalism, and on the Clintons. (Mostly the last.)
But without them, who will you have to blame all your problems on?
Um, the Jews, duh.
They that sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind.
-Some guy I think?
that would be Windy, the weather elf...
Was that the creepy ass Elf on the Shelf?
The sow is going to be stamping license plates...
I warned that political-correctness-run-amok and liberal overreach would lead to a counter-revolution if unchecked. That counter-revolution just happened.
Maybe. Or maybe it's just beginning.
meh. I much prefer Ed's article:
Why Donald Trump Won
People who don't understand how anyone could vote for Donald Trump are part of the reason Trump won.
Much better.
Not surprising. Ed is a much better writer and has a much better head on his shoulders.
Plus, he has a beard, which is often a sign of wisdom.
"Plus, he has a beard, which is often a sign of wisdom."
That was prior to wave 2 metrosexuals.
....
if you mean the substance of what he tries to say... ok.
but for the love of god, his sentences.... i can't even. There are no words = LITERALLY. He forgets words. Or puts them in the wrong order.
But not a better haircut.
I think if Clinton had run no ads whatsoever for the last 8 weeks of the election, she likely would have done better. Every ad I saw from her or Barack or that little shit Aziz Ansari or Amy Schumer (the woman who basically raped a guy who was passed out drunk and now likes to lecture people voting for Trump about how they're enabling sexual assault) felt like an earworm tunneling into my brain.
"The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast. I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision?like most members of the under-30 crowd, I have no problem with gender neutral pronouns?I say this because it inspired a backlash that gave us Trump."
What the hell are you even thinking. That this about pronouns? Bias resonse hotlines, government (New York) compelling people to use pronouns, compelling people to sell alcohol to pregnant women, disregard for due process, mirco-aggressions, trigger-warnings, cultural ex-/appropriation, ... That this is just too fast? That inflation of concepts is limited just to "racism"? Look at "sexism". At this point it's impossible to tell what part of heterosexuality is not sexist, and not "heteronormative". The entire thing hilariously arbitrary, so beyond any objective concept, beyond any philosophy of equal freedom -- this is a cult. And you babble that it's "pronouns", maybe racism, and just too fast.
(2) "he poorly-educated-white-male identity group"
Yes, that's the only group which has a problem with this cult. The stupid ones.
(3) "My liberal critics rolled their eyes (...)."
Well, they got right, albeit for the wrong reason. Your remarkably ridiculous explanation - and teaching - of what happened nicely resembles that of "the liberal critics". Your nearly as blind as they are, and don't notice the irony.
*ithere are about two "is" missing, And the last "your" is supposed to be "you're"
Again, Soave shares almost all of the far left's ideas; his only major differences with them are on strategies.
That's not actually a small difference.
What the hell are you even thinking. That this about pronouns?
I interpreted the "pronouns" thing as being a shorthand for all the stuff you describe. The entire PC milieu.
Then he has no problem with the entire PC milieu, with nothing of their "social vision", only the speed.
"This is akin to the political-correctness-run-amok problem: both are examples of the left's horrible over-reach during the Obama years. The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast. I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision?like most members of the under-30 crowd, I have no problem with gender neutral pronouns?I say this because it inspired a backlash that gave us Trump."
"What the hell are you even thinking."
What he's thinking is what passes for libertarianism when the Frankfurt school has done it's deed. When discrimination is viewed as a worse sin than denying someone's essential liberty.
IOW we're fucked.
On a panel with Sally Kohn? Partisan hacks are not OK.
Excellent piece
Dolan won because The Hag really is such a shitty person that her base gave a big "SFW?". She's hated. People literally hate her that much.
In a way, Trump offered a competing brand of political correctness. So many of the earmarks are there: exaltation of emotion over reason, identity grievance politics over individual rights, and government power over freedom.
IOW, he became a typical politician.
Agreed, but it's true of pretty much any election - a solid chunk of voters will be there for the feelz.
"The left sorted everyone into identity groups and then told the people in the poorly-educated-white-male identity group that that's the only bad one." This, right here. People who live in liberal big cities think that white people are a minority, but white people still make up 2/3 of the electorate. Black people might be more likely to be impoverished, but there are twice as many impoverished white people impoverished black people.
Also, the media constantly reports on "whites without college degrees" but strangely doesn't have categories for "blacks without college degrees" or "Hispanics without college degrees". "Asians without college degrees" don't exist.
I think that future historians will say that the Turd Sandwich blew it with that "deplorables" crack. Attacking your opponent is necessary. Attacking your opponent's supporters isn't the way to win them over to your side.
-jcr
Especially when your campaign theme is "Stronger Together" and claiming Trump is "divisive". She just never could keep the hate out of her delivery and it was a constant reminder she's lying about everything.
Refusing to call David Duke's racist views "deplorable" sounds like the worst political correctness run amok to me.
Yummy tears
http://hotair.com/archives/201.....s-victory/
Eventually the fun of this will wear off and I'll have to resign myself to the realities of a Trump presidency....but that day is far in the future. I'm going to enjoy the shit out of things like this for a long time yet.
does this woman seriously think *anyone* would be more likely than Hillary to put boots on the ground? Has she never paid any attention to what Hillary has always supported?
So uh what exactly is Daddy's plan to destroy political correctness?
I'm not sure. I think Trump is is against Nazi gay wedding cakes.
Politicians drive culture, not vice versa. We will see his example and change our ways to be more like his.
Honestly, I suspect that if anything were to take place, it's fewer federal forays into state-level and private kulturkampf issues (DOE's Title IX inquisition being the easiest to curb), more cheerleading for America, and a greater emphasis on English from FedGov as a sop to his base (official documents being issued in 80 languages annoys the hell out of a surprisingly large cross section of the population).
You do not need a plan to deal with PC & SJW ideas. That is the point. You don't social engineer it. Politicians will have to realize that if they run on an SJW platform that insists everyone else is sexist and racist that they will not win.
SJWs marginalize themselves, because they are wrong
And No KDN pols do not drive culture, media does not drive culture either. That is why they got it wrong. All last nigt the media were basically saying, "How did we (I mean Hillary) lose." People did not vote the way the media tried to influence.
And No KDN pols do not drive culture,
The first line was quite clearly sarcastic, my orange friend.
Aww, Hugh, your tears are among the sweetest of all.
Your suffering will make us laugh and laugh.
I agree with what Robby is saying, but one nit: there aren't enough poorly-educated-white-males out there to win an election.
On gender neutral pronouns, I don't have a problem with them or what they represent, but I am old enough that for me to use them in my speech feels contrived. The problem is not gender-neutral pronouns, but that the progressives want to burn people at the stake for not using them right this instant in the exact way that they approve.
We should not demonize each other for harmless generational differences. As a Gen-Xer, the term "colored" feels wrong, Afro-American seems old fashioned, "black" is OK, and "African-American" and "People of Color" feel unnatural and patronizing.
Millennials should not feel too proud of themselves for being open minded. Your day will come too. The post-millennials will make you feel out of step sooner than you think.
In any case, progressives will never understand what Robby wrote. To read their rantings this morning, you'd think the K K K was still a thing.
Yep - a lesbian in my FB feed:
We're surrounded by fucking idiots. Thank god Canada is so close! Who's coming with me?
reply from her friend: I'm actually frightened that if we leave we wouldn't be able to get back in to see my family at some point. It is a fucked up feeling.
her: I'm a little scared of that too. I wouldn't put it passed him.
Thank god Canada is so close! Who's coming with me?
Ask if they need any help. I'm available for packing and driving - Mid Atlantic area. Will organize additional manpower if necessary.
And someone get Cher a couple of bottles of sleeping pills.
poorly-educated-white-male identity group
Poorly educated or lacking in a college degree? There's a difference, and I'd recon a lot of factory workers, plumbers, electricians and other tradesmen out there making $60k and up a year take a little offense to baristas with MA's telling them they're poorly educated and lumping them into a monolithic group. It's telling that you identified them as such, by the way.
So much this - my old man never graduated from college but he still made more money than I ever will.
And I have friend - tool and die maker - who makes more than I do.
The ever-increasing emphasis on higher ed over vocational ed is one of the most severe structural issues for this country, IMO. It simultaneously cheapens knowledge workers' skills and creates a need for skilled and unskilled manual labor that immigrants (for all the good and bad they bring) are all too happy to fill.
If you really want to hollow out the middle class, one of the best ways to do it is to convince every Vinny Barbarino that he should try to be an accountant instead of a plumber.
Writing the character "Vinny Barbarino, Staten Island accountant" into Friday's dnd session.
Any one who has successfully run a small business with payroll, employees, etc, for longer than a year is better educated than the vast majority of new college graduates.
Sloopy- Excellent point.
^so true^ I know a shitload of "intelligent people" who don't possess a degree. Most of them make a good living running small businesses to assist the dingalings who can't manage a crescent wrench or a simple hammer. College educations seem to be highly over rated. they were just a place to ride out the depression.
No, sloopy. They're all dimwitted misogynistic racists. Probably speak in a southern drawl. NOT OKAY
Someday the democrats will realize what a colossal disaster Hillary was for the democrat party. She cost them the House in 1994 and now the White House.
I'd like to track the careers of her super delegates from here on.
They will all be working for The Clinton Family Foundation, LLC.
"The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast. I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision?like most members of the under-30 crowd, I have no problem with gender neutral pronouns"
That's not what they want. They want you fired if you don't learn the 37 genders and start every conversation asking which pronoun everyone uses.
I said a year ago that Hilary Clinton is this generation's version of Ted Kennedy -- beloved by party insiders but intolerable to the rest of the country.
Except no one loves her. Even supporters whisper about what a miserable bitch she is to work for.
I said a year ago that Hilary Clinton is this generation's version of Ted Kennedy -- beloved by party insiders but intolerable to the rest of the country.
You are part of the problem, I hope you realize that. This article made me want to build the wall
the poorly-educated-white-male identity group
Poorly educated or lacking a college degree? There's a difference.
Pro tip: a bunch of baristas and Whole Foods stockboys living at home with MA's in Art Appreciation and $150k in loan debt calling high-school educated electricians, plumbers, other tradesmen and assembley line workers who own their homes, cars, boats etc "poorly-educated" doesn't resonate well with those people.
I know farmers and ranchers who I trust a hell of a lot more about a lot of things than people with PhDs who live in big cities.
Well, how long until the anti-war left comes out of the woodwork? Strange, haven't seen them since January 2009.
That would be nice.
They're in their mom's garage building papier mache heads as we speak.
There are some sexist, misogynistic, racist people in America. Those are not the people that lost the election for Hillary.
I personally am sick of SJWs that see everything through the lens of gender and race, which makes them sexist and racist, constantly calling me sexist and racist when I am not.
They do not know me through my daily life. I am not a troll. I have a vote. And you lost because of it. Stop calling white men sexist rapist pigs that need to be educated. Stop blaming white men for the faults of the black community. Stop calling people Islamophobes that are simply looking at the European takeover by Islamic culture as a negative that they do not want to see repeated in our country. Stop calling people transphobes, because they don't want to walk up to everyone and call them "zhe" or don't like being called "cis".
You don't know me in my life. You do not know how I interact with women, minorities, trans girls & boys. You do not know it. You assume to know it, becuase:
YOU ARE SEXIST
YOU ARE RACIST
So it's eight years then?
"If you're a leftist reading this, you probably think that's stupid. You probably can't understand why someone would get so bent out of shape about being told their words are hurtful. You probably think it's not a big deal and these people need to get over themselves. Who's the delicate snowflake now, huh? you're probably thinking. I'm telling you: your failure to acknowledge this miscalculation and adjust your approach has delivered the country to Trump."
Whoa. That's probably the harshest thing I've ever read from Robby. I didn't think he had it in him.
He didn't even equivocate. That's the fruit-and-rice equivalent of going nuclear.
Hardly. Here: "The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast. I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision?like most members of the under-30 crowd, I have no problem with gender neutral pronouns?I say this because it inspired a backlash that gave us Trump."
He also mosly reduces the matter to racism and "poorly educated" white men. So intellectually formidable. So bravely self-congratulatory. So graciously oblivious to hypocrisy.
hat tip to you, sir. Your fingers are more nimble than mine.
Hat tip to you sir. Your fingers are more nimble than mine.
Oh he equivocated alright.....
"The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast. I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision...."
But for Fruit Sushi this article is still a high water mark.
"But for Fruit Sushi this article is still a high water mark."
Oh boy.
excellent article
I think Fruit Sushi nailed this one on the head. I listened to the weeping and nashing of teeth on NPR all the way to work this morning (I usually can only stand about 10 minutes). According to Attica Locke, it wasn't the poor turnout of African- American voters for Clinton that contributed to her losing the election; it was Trump's ability to bring out the racists. Apparently white people are all racist, patriarchal shit lords at a subconscious level and we are all pushing back at the Obama presidency because we can't help ourselves. If you are a connoisseur of Derp and want to taste some yummy SJW tears here ya go. Weird how broad-brushing an entire group of people as racists makes them say "Fuck you."
Yeah, it seems slightly catatonic; dismayed and indignated, they continue to repeat it over, and over again. Such faith.
Usually shit like this has me eye rolling on good days, screaming at the radio on bad ones. Maybe the left will wake up to the fact that their obsession with identity politics and grievance mongering is in an of itself, racist.
Nah, sorry, I say crazy things sometimes.
It can't throw stones. Not because I'm a girl, but because of omitting words, and such. Furthermore, there is a post-election-agitation bonus. Others desperately screem at pollsters to "say that [they] are sorry". We're doing much better.
"Apparently white people are all racist, patriarchal shit lords at a subconscious level and we are all pushing back at the Obama presidency because we can't help ourselves."
So that explains how states like Michigan and Wisconsin, which Obama carried in two past elections, flipped to Trump: his racism is so virulent, it infected previously non-racist whites who voted for the first black pres.
Or was there some kind of giant demographic shift that happened in those states and no one noticed?
The worst part of this past campaign is I often found myself in a position of defending Trump, who I dislike and did not vote for. I mean, okay, I get what's behind the accusations that he doesn't like Mexicans, but when did he come out against blacks, or gays, or Jews? I mean, the guy is born and raised in NYC, has worked there all his life, and somehow managed to not encounter any blacks, gays, or Jews? He just assumed the worst about them through a lack of any exposure? Is that it?
It's like their script is a broken record that gives them no room for any flexibility. Republican? Ok, check off the boxes for racism, homophobia, religious fundamentalism, etc. And they accuse their opponents of lacking a sense of nuance?
Exactly !
And even the Mexican thing was clearly vote-grabbing political opportunism, rather than some deep-seated personal conviction.
If Chinese migrants were being blamed for unemployment he'd be calling them rapists instead.
They won't learn anything from this. If anything they'll draw the absolutely wrong conclusion: that they need to SJW even harder next time.
CA-
Agreed. They're never *wrong*, they just didn't do their thing hard enough.
That's true of anyone. Changing behavior means admitting you were wrong, and humans are terrible at doing that, universally.
I think he'll pick up about another 25 electoral votes in 2020.
This prez term may be when libertarian activists discover liberty doesn't come about by people's driving directly at it. I think we'll see more genuine freedom while the politically influential say they're trying for something else entirely.
I mean the coming prez term.
Terrifying, Robby? What's terrifying is that the Progressives, who held political power in this country, and the media, spent the past eight years blaming heterosexual white men for every problem real or imagined, shaming an entire demographic, assigning collective guilt on the basis of unchangeable characteristics gained before birth. Eight years of being berated and patronized by twentysomething neckbeards, baristas, and liberal arts majors was bad enough, but handing them the keys to the kingdom for another four years was terrifying enough for people to vote for Donald Fucking Trump.
But no, blame it on racists and sexists. Please, seriously, keep doing that.
Probably a little bit of all three of these and a few other reasons as well.
Terrifyingly delicious backlash! I like my backlash with coffee and bacon!
Completely agree with Soave!
They're not wrong. Just go on youtube and search for "SJW fails". You can find hundreds of videos, usually shot by the smarmy pricks themselves, of SJWs bitching at normal, everyday people who offended their fragile sensibilities, and typically being taken down in epic fashion with some simple logic and reasoning on the part of the person they're screaming at. And yet they still think they're the smartest most enlightened person in the history of ever.
While I didn't vote for Trump, at the same time these fuckwits are reaping what they sowed and the salty ham tears are truly epic today. The only problem is that they'll take exactly the wrong the lesson from all of this and just SJW twice as hard the next time they get a progressive into the shite house. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if next time they feel like they have the power they so crave they really do start loading people onto cattle cars and standing their "enemies" up against a wall.
Heh... "shite house". That may be the most epic "Johnism" I've ever done.
Yeah, while today I am lite as a feather, fueled by yummy ham-tears, I also wonder if I am going to regret this election immensely (while I'm glad we are finally free from Hilldog I'm only slightly less fearful of the Donald) when we end up with the equivalent of Lena Dunham in 2020 due to the back-lash against Trump.
And yeah, I agree that the outworking of SJW anti-logic can be nothing other than some sort of 'Final Solution' for the un-woke.
I'd say political correctness inspired more of a "giant eyeroll" than a "terrifying backlash".
Uh, d'ya think the fact that she's a felon might have had something to do with it?
Trump won because of Hillary
That's the number one reason, really. If the D's had nominated pretty much anyone other Hillary or Berntard, I don't think Trump wins. All they had to do was nominate someone who wasn't a corrupt criminal or a full on socialist and they would have won easily.
And if the R's had nominated someone other than Trump, I think they would have won by a landslide instead of just barely eking out an EC victory.
Well, my first rebuttal - awesomeness the whole way - was apparently eaten by the squirrels,
So, while PC is likely a small component, it amazes me just how little pundits here put into the masses' understanding of the economic/fiscal/monetary (E/F/M) shitstorm we're in, and how absolutely it is ignored, obviously even at Reason. People KNOW just how close everything came to falling apart less than a decade ago. And all we/they got was a shit pile of Obamacare and $8TRILLON in new borrowing in response. The private sector middle class radicalized enough a DECADE ago to form the Tea Party, that was patted on the head and told to make nice-nice by the establishment Republicans. This WHOLE thing with Trump is the establishment getting it dry and sideways for years of idiocy and "let them eat cake" philosophies on BOTH sides the aisles, and they BOTH just got it but good.
So Reason can go on about PC and carbon taxes and mary jane, but we libertarians have been irrelevant for the RIGHT reasons, it does it do us much good to be irrelevant for the tangential reasons. Without understanding that EVERYTHING emanates from sound E/F/M policies, then you're useless. People are HUNGERING for correcting 100 years of E/F/M mismanagement, and they can either get/give free market lessons for a replacement, or brutishness will win the day. Prattling on about PC AIN'T going to do it.
I know that I will be of a minority opinion relative to the rest of the boards, but in many ways I believe that Trump saved rather than hurt the Republican Party, and I don't believe that any other candidate the GOP offered this year besides Rand Paul would have done as well against Hillary. I'm not the biggest fan of his ideas about trade and immigration, but without those positions the party would never have courted the flyover and "Rust Belt" states in the same way that he did. Factor in his incredible manipulation of the MSM and his success in courting a silent demographic, and I believe that this might be the most resounding victory against the establishment that I've seen in my short time on earth.
I gotta laugh at libertarians who couldn't break 5% of the vote have the gall to criticize the candidate who got the most.
Help me out, laughing like this or like this?
this is exactly the problem I run into. to most people, the libertian party canidiate appears to be mary jane
Just think guys... Melania Trump is our new First Lady! Awesome. This is going to be fun. CalExit.
Well, at least we don't have to look at the Klingon for the next four years.
"CalExit" So a bankrupt state that is the epicenter of progressive bullshit no longer has any impact on the American political scene? So Californians will have a harder time moving to good states and bringing there terrible politics with them? I will no longer have to live with the fact that AmSoc is my fellow citizen?
Not seeing a downside here.
Maybe we'll stop sending non-Californians our tax money. Yesterday's vote was the best news for single-payer health care in California since the adoption of Medicare.
Fuck off, asswipe.
Only downside is that we would have to pay tariffs to get that good Cali hydro 🙁
Great! Get the fuck out. You won't be missed.
We need your help. The only way that a state can legally leave the U.S. is for it to be ratified by a constitutional amendment. If we in California tell you guys in Jesus-land long and hard enough that you're country sucks can you support a state legislature that will let us go? Thanks, man
Fuck off, asswipe.
That you are country sucks? Better hope you don't get what you wish for. California wouldn't last a decade on its own.
We could always give it back to Mexico.
Cali should be permitted to secede so long as it is done by County by County.
Holy shit you're extra cute today - state rights secessionist now? Am I dreaming?
Did California favor HRC BY A 2-to-1 margin? I haven't checked.

"I don't say this because I'm opposed to that vision?like most members of the under-30 crowd, I have no problem with gender neutral pronouns"
I don't think this is accurate. The under-30 crowd may be less opposed to gender neutral pronouns than the over-30 crowd, but I sincerely doubt that more than half approve of them. For instance, this very site celebrated at least one college student who openly mocked them by insisting on being called "his majesty."
This is exactly what happened. Liberals even tried to go as far as ruin video games and that's where I draw the line. They covered up Lara Croft's hot body. They removed her signature outfit. This was unacceptable, a travesty. They made Cassandra Pentaghast look like a man. They removed the brothel. Voting for Trump is all I could do to rebel against the liberals destroying everything I hold dear in video games.
I like breast & butt physics and the liberals tried to take that away from me. Liberals forced me into a pit. In that pit I talked with other victims like me. They had a group called GamerGate, so I joined them.

Can a moderator delete this extra message? It posted twice for some reason.
Double posts feed the squirrels. If they are unfed, they stop running in their cages and the entire website goes down.
I'm gonna have to sort of disagree with you there.
Trump won because he promised to restore old glory to the rust belt.
One pundit made a pretty good analysis of what just happened:
Working-class whites voted like a minority
.
And I think that beyond the economic concerns (which Hillary proved largely unable to address), many of them felt like they were truly in an Us vs. Them scenario, which the PC left undoubtedly had capitalized on for 8 years anyway. Maybe targeting such a large demographic group for ridicule was a bad call?
.
Nominating Clinton will also haunt the Dems for years, but I expect most of their bitching will be about third-parties, the Electoral College, and racism/sexism
Another consideration I saw from a comedian: "If you need a HuffPo article to tell you what to say to your kids, then maybe kids were a bad choice"
.
That gets at another issue here: the liberal echo chamber of HuffPo and Vox, and the not-so-secretly leftist WaPo, Politico, etc. completely insulated liberals from actually understanding why someone might vote for Trump
You wouldn't to promote something that flies in the face of the ever-so-empirical field of "modern social psychology". Maybe just maybe, Robby, their position flies in the face of biology as well as rational takes on psychology that rightly regard trannyisms to be a mental disorder.
Feelings and sensitivities have nothing to do with it.
Ten years ago Rick Santorum was saying similar things about gay people. So sorry (not sorry), but I'm not inclined to give credence to "it's biology, not bigotry" today either.
Or to put out another way... They tell me how they feel, and what feels right to them, and it costs me nothing to respect that. You also rant to tell me how they *really* feel, and I should care why?
If you can't characterize someone with a species of body dysphoria who genuinely believes they are some other gender, real or imagined, as having a mental disorder, then apparently you believe there's no such thing as a mental disorder.
but the science is long settled
"There is a cost to depriving people of the freedom (in both the legal and social senses) to speak their mind. The presidency just went to the guy whose main qualification, according to his supporters, is that he isn't afraid to speak his."
Yup. Brooks in the NYT moans about how Trump brought out all the ugly racism and classism. What is so sad is that Brooks doesn't understand how that racism and classism was thrust upon the country by the liberal coastal elites...by people just like Clinton. The white middle and lower class were not bypassed by diversity, they were actively sacrificed at the altar of diversity. Black and Hispanic communities were not lifted up to be on par with white communities, but instead the white communities were taxed and disenfranchised to make the country more 'level'. The disdain and disgust liberals have shown for middle America does not go unnoticed and is a huge factor in this election because Trump chose to openly speak about it. Romney did....47%....but then immediately apologized....as if everyone didn't know exactly what he meant and agreed with it.
Trump didn't win on racism and classism. He won because he pointed out the racism and classism inherent in the system.
Where in the IRS code taxes white people more than people of color? I must have missed that on the 1040.
learn to read: "white communities", not white people. And if you can't recognize the massive wealth redistribution that has been occurring across the country, then you are just plain clueless. good luck with that.
Abso-fucking-lutely.
Just realized I'm going to have to continue hearing and hearing about Chris Christie, Sarah Palin and Ben Carson.
NOT OKAY, OK?
Oh but gosh, you'll still have gay people to blame all your problems on. Win.... win?
The fuck are you talking about?
You're not looking forward to Surgeon General Carson?
AG Christie?
It's going to be alt-right Robby.
Damn, progressives use some seriously violent rhetoric. You know..when they can form coherent statements through the tears and hysterics..
Gay people especially have lost their fucking minds.
Pro tip for millennials: when everyone and everything is "racist," the word loses its power. Same for a lot of other "-ists" and "-phobics."
Trump won because he's not got a 30 year history as a provably corrupt career politician. The whole "political correctness movement" has clearly been bullshit to a large segment of the population for some time. But we understand that liberal idiots will be prone to a long period of navel gazing while trying to figure out why we the people don't see SJW's ideas as obviously better. Don't worry, no doubt there will be plenty more Socialists to get behind in the future. Go lick your wounds and have a good cry.
"most" is shorter and more-accurate
excellent article, you nailed it
Millenial SJWs are like the kid in The Sixth Sense. They see mean, racist, sexist people, but no one else can see them. Luckily, there are people like Bruce Willis/Campus Diversity Officers who they can talk to who affirm what they know. But ultimately, like The Sixth Sense, it's not real and just a story.
RE: Trump Won Because Leftist Political Correctness Inspired a Terrifying Backlash
What every liberal who didn't see this coming needs to understand
1. Fuck political correctness. This is nothing more than censorship and controlling other people's speech.
2. The left should have seen this coming. Most Americans embrace free speech, and this is something the over-educated idiots in the media, academia, politics, etc can't seem to grasp. Free speech in this country does include making an ass out of yourself (Trump was magnificent at that), making rude remarks and offending others.
3. As much as I don't like Trump the Grump, I will applaud him for not giving in to the thought police on the left.
By the way, backlash, yes, but what's so "terrifying" about it, Soave?
That it might force Soave to reveal all his unspoken premises?
One day into this, and already I am completely worn the fuck out with drama queens shrieking about how they're "scared" "terrified" "horrified" "unsafe". Hyperbole much? Pussies.
No. Wrong. You're totally putting the cart before the horse. Sure, people have a strong reaction to strong PC views and challenges, but Lena Dunham isn't shouting in the aisles of Walmart in Texarkana.
But she might be quoted on Fox & Friends, which then gets aired there.
Do you have a point Norman?
Or are we just supposed to assume you're an idiot?
So you can't say the N word in polite company. Let's just burn the whole thing down then.
I got shouted down last night for using 'trigger warning' as a quip. These people are so out of touch with reality. Truly the zombies of the apocalypse are out in full force.
The reaction from many right wingers in this comment thread perfectly highlights the author's point.
If people continue to see things in black and white "libtard vs. racist" terms like this we will have bigger problems on our hands than a garbage election. If we are not respectful, patient, and open minded, this conversation will tear us apart. Disagreement does not have to result in hatred and division. Condemning those who don't share your specific point of view is lazy and undemocratic (and therefore un-American).
yes, but who would by the ads to sponsor that program? boring....
Soave pays homage to political correctness as invented by Fox News, to deny their own political correctness.
In reality, political correctness is how any ideology imposes conformity to its own version of OneThink, aka Orwell's Newspeak, aka Mind Control.
For conservatives, it's defined by Fox News and includes extreme social conservatism.
For libertarians, it's defined by Ron Paul and includes ... extreme social conservatism. And now includes the delusion that this election was a major milestone for what Reason calls Libertarianism 3.0 when, to any rational mind, it was the total failure of an intellectually bankrupt pseudo-ideology.
Americans were ready for real and substantive change, but were offered only false change by the victor and nothing by the purported libertarian, nothing on jobs and the economy, nothing on healthcare, nothing (sane) on tax overhaul, nothing on governance, not a single actual reform. NOTHING by slogans. The message, "We can do things a LOT better, which is all you need to know." The arrogance of ignorance.
I disagree with the part about Ron Paul. 1. Ron Paul did bring a lot of people to libertarianism, but Ron Paul is not it's litmus test, many libertarians disagree with Ron Paul, he's popular due to the fact that even if you disagree with him, he has more integrity than many you might meet. He has a way with bringing the concept of actual liberty (as opposed to the false freedom the left and the right like to pretend counts) to the masses and for many they stuck and changed them. Both progressives and neoconservatives have learned why libertarianism was best because of people like Ron Paul. 2. Ron Paul is a bit socially conservative, but he's on the other end of that spectrum, in other words he doesn't really push his views on anybody. He doesn't agree at all about using the government to govern morality. And to try to lump him in with those like Santorum won't earn you any respect.
I started with that because Ron Paul was what got me into libertarianism. If I hadn't heard his political views, and continued on the path I was I probably would still have been really socially conservative. The kind of person that probably would have voted for Trump because he was an R. But I did hear his political views and he swayed me into checking out libertarianism, well him and John Stossel. But I still keep up with Ron Paul and he was neither a Trump supporter or a Hillary supporter. Many claimed that they no longer supported him because he wouldn't get behind Trump. It was clear they never supported him in the first place because his message had not changed, they just liked him because he wasn't part of the establishment.
The left and the right are really not so different, they both will drop you at the slightest mistake, they both think they can rule over others. The sad thing was that people once again were led to believe that this was a left vs right election. Both candidates were very much leftists. Instead it was a elitist vs populist election.
I started with that because Ron Paul was what got me into libertarianism. Before that I was closer to what would actually be considered extreme social conservativism. I might have even voted for Trump if I was still one. But Ron Paul and John Stossel introduced me to the ideas of libertarianism.
For actual libertarians this was not a victory. Though it should be obvious, neither would Hillary's victory be a victory for libertarianism. You have to remember to remind people of that otherwise they'll think you're shilling for the other candidate. This election has been really good at making a lot of masks slip and fall off. Many who identified as libertarian were revealed as just another republican or democrat.
That said, those that think Trump is going to "Make America Great Again" will be sorely disappointed by reality just as Obama's supporters were. There's a reason why so many called Obama the Obamessiah in mockery. People fell for his "Hope and Change" they believed he would change the government, the country, the world. Some even had far more ridiculous expectations, but many were also joking making fun the ones that did believe some ridiculous nonsense. But Trump's "Make America Great Again" will prove to be the new "Hope and Change". Trump, like Obama before him has no real integrity and no real plan on how he's going to fulfill his promises. Unlike Obama however, he'll have a bigger problem knowing which of his competing promises he should even try to fulfill.
And on the other side, those that are dreading the coming years, they will probably be relieved. Trump will still be a terrible president, but he won't bring the end of the world or anything. My bet is on him being too incompetent to do much of anything similar to Obama. In four years though we will be back to where we started, both the left and the right bickering and we could get Hillary as a form of protest. Politics is like a pendulum, left right left right left right. The left screws up and the people vote right, the right screws up and the people vote left. Consider how terrible our congress has been, whether it's a republican or democrat majority, they screw up.

The left screws up and the people vote right, the right screws up and the people vote left. Consider how terrible our congress has been, whether it's a republican or democrat majority, they screw up. The right has had a majority for a few years and people think it isn't a big enough majority. All of that bipartisan support for terrible policies would go away if only republicans had more members in congress. I'm guessing that the ones in there are so cowardly they won't make the "right" decisions unless told to by other less cowardly members?.
That so many on the right had been considered just as much outsiders just a few years ago and here they are now fitting right in with the establishment should have been a red flag for those considering Trump based on that criteria. Ron Paul fit that bill too but he had actual substance and integrity as his qualities not just populism.
I don't doubt a bunch also supported him because they viewed him as being anti-PC, but somebody that childish and prone to overreaction is probably not that anti-pc. He has the same behaviors of a lot of SJW's actually. Those people will also be terribly disappointed in the coming months and years
Ron Paul's not even close to being libertarian. And you have no clue what "actual liberty" even means.
How many moons circle YOUR planet? Is that why he supported DOMA? Why he even co-sponsored a bill to forbid SCOTUS from even hearing any appeals to DOMA, the first group denial of constitutional rights since Jim Crow? And -- equivalent to the very worst of the KKK -- says "rogue judges" overturned DOMA?
In 1957, Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus activated his state militia, armed force to keep nine black kids from registering at Little Rock's Central High. Eisenhower sent federal troops, ordered to use force if necessary, to defend the equal rights of 9 kids. Faubus later justified his actions by claiming he had defended his state's voters (school segregation) from an overreaching and intrusive federal government.
Today, Ron Paul lies and distorts the Constitution to also deny fundamental (unalienable) rights -- also as an enabler to bigots.
YOU may confuse the Constitution and the entire concept of equal unalienable rights, but never confuse liberty with anti-liberty. Learn the Ninth Amendment, which demolishes the Ron Pauls of this world. Still.
I just proved you wrong. http://reason.com/blog/2016/11.....nt_6538378
(And all your endless follow-ons)
From those who have no clue what Ron Paul stands for? Why should I care????
Notice how my sock puppet always gives the left a pass. The Paulista-goobers are always to blame for everything, since they are in league with the Christian Taliban and republicans.......but the left is NEVER a threat to liberty. I proudly voted for Hillary yesterday because she is the best representation of the libertarian party that I built that was stolen from me by the goobers.
Cato, 91%!!!!!!!
(shits pants)
It's people like you who REFUSE to accept that BOTH left and right pose severe threats to liberty,
That's why libertarianism is founded on the conviction that left and right are both obsolete.
Do what you must, but left and right are both obsolete. Since 1969 (for libertarians)
Except in my mind the right is MORE obsolete and somehow Ron Paul is to blame for all of the LP's failings, even Johnson's terrible campaign. It's a blatant non-sequtiur but since I'm incapable of a good faith argument.......notice how I didn't refute voting for Hillary.
You say "non sequitur" but you also say Gary was correct to have NO policy proposals at all ... and you have no idea where the "no policies" insanity came from. You may be too new to all this.
Having lost 2 careers and facing homelessness 3 times for the unpardonable sin of spending much of the past 25 years warning that this backlash (which is only really just starting) would come, I agree with the main thesis of this article. However, as an enrolled member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe who has experienced violent racism at the hands of whites (in the sixties) and social, educational and economic racism from blacks and women ever since, I categorically reject his assertion that Trump is a "real racist." I know many (mostly male) American Indians who wholeheartedly agree with Trump. While his spitballing and brainstorming comments begged further clarification, he has said nothing that qualifies as racism anywhere but in the special snowflake safe spaces and hypersensitive enclaves of the race baiters.
Political correctness is public shaming in the name of all inclusiveness. Think someone is different? How dare you point it out! Shame on you! Think it's ok to call someone the ethnic name you were taught was ok growing up? Shame on you you racist cracker! Think we should have stronger borders? You pig! How dare you!
Any opinion however slight, shall be shamed if it does not conform to the uber lib view of the world. So said the great left. And so went the world.
People have different values. Some people like the city, some the suburbs. Leftists said living in suburbs is evil. You have no right to value that. Some people think kids need 2 parents, male and female. Leftists said you are evil to hold that view (and never mind what the kids think). It was claimed by the left not that there were different views and values and that we should look for compromise, but that ONLY their views were valid and any other view about anything whatsoever was racist (blah blah blah). But people DO have the values and desires they have. Some even go to church. They really don't like being told they are invalid. And the invalidation was not merely ideological, it has been categorical: merely by being male you are sexist, merely by being white you are racist. No possibility of redemption. People reject that.
Trump supporters aren't (mostly) racist (ahem, Robby). They are just accused of it because they are white and male and conservative. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump got more of the minority vote than anyone predicted.

Gender-neutral pronouns.
Seems quaint now.
Can't get enough of the bitter salty tears today.
And this attempt at reflection suffers from the same things it laments. Trump could only be considered a racist by laughable PC standards and the author continues to insult Trump followers and overestimates the morality and capacity for critical thinking of the left.
True, he only sees the flaws in their methodology, but fails to see the more glaring flaws in their motivations.
I seriously doubt this was a major factor in Trump's victory. More important than this was the disconnect between the Republican elites and their policies / actions versus the rank and file blue collar Republicans.
Another excellent column, Robby. See also an interesting article by Shelby Lyman on the culture of deference: http://www.wsj.com/articles/tr.....478564579. It deals with the same family of issues.

Before the first debate I wrote on hardthinking: "Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is trapped in a politically correct box and Donald Trump is sitting on the lid." The article was called "New Flash: Political Correctness Makes Trump President."
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has noticed this.
Hitler was identical.
Elementary yes my dear Watson, very effective elementary.
The hardthinking article is here:

"That counter-revolution just happened."
No ... it didn't. Lets not conflate the situation with hyperbole. This election was nothing more than a moderately loud growl.
A real counter revolution would be a major portion of 100 million armed Americans taking to the streets and covering them with piles of bodies of SJW's and anyone else in the wrong place who just discovered the difference between minor rioting / mayhem and a real civil war.
If that ever happens, their aren't enough cops, armed paramilitaries, and willing soldiers to begin to stop the rage.
I'm thinking one of these days we've got to get a handle on our wording so as to truly call things what they are ... so maybe people will realize the dangerous ground our culture is are treading.

It wasn't political correctness that elected Trump. It wasn't the liberals and it wasn't Obama. He was elected by the people who voted for him, who are most certainly not liberal. And he was the nominee of the Republican party, not the Democratic party.
I've noticed you cons never take responsibility for anything. It's always somebody else's fault. This is just another example of that. You were the ones who elected Trump, not us. You own him, not us.
The Pharisees were the epitome of both religious and political 'correctness'. So much so that it became their downfall. Instead of taking heed of the clear warnings against self-exhaltation over the common folk, the Pharisees went headlong into looking down their noses and wagging the finger at those with whom they elevated themselves above. They would focus on the straw in the eye of their fellowman yet ignore the pole or rafter in their OWN eye. Finally, these "hypocrites" or "offspring of vipers" as they were described, were so intelligent til they were stupid and far from teachable! Yes, in addition to being One who spoke out against political correctness, President Donald Trump's foresight into which Group(s) would embrace his repudiation against it, (particularly college students ), is what worked out in POTUS Trump's favor! HRC's 'bright teeth failed to conceal a dark heart' so to speak. Thus the grinding and gnashing of the teeth against the shrewd & politically incorrect winner! Truly a .....CheckPlusMate
The left sorted everyone into identity groups and then told the people in the male identity group that that's the only bad one.
I fixed that for you.
If you want to erase gender then you must eradicate French, Spanish and any other language that are practically two different languages depending on whether you're talking to or about a male or female.
French even assigns "gender" to various inanimate objects so if you want to say the same thing about two different subjects that happen to have different "genders", much of the rest of the sentence has to change.
One quarter of the world's languages use such grammatical gender.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_gender
It is even done in English - ships are referred to as "she".
This article must've went viral. My Feedly feed shows 72,000 reads. The highest by a metric shitton for a Reason article.
'Terrifying Backlash'? That's a little hysterical, isn't it?
yes...yes it is. Robby had to signal his virtue.
There you have it. Reason Mag sanctions & 2nds Political Correctness. And to be against it is a "terrifying backlash". Go jump in the lake Reason Mag. How about a RIGHTEOUS BACKLASH to the moral high ground claimed by progressives & leftist?
Frankly I am sick of this brand of "LP/Reason Mag libertarianism", sick because LP/Reason Mag libertarianism cannot self reflect how their very own positions counter their positions on accepting the moral high ground claimed by Political Correctness in the first place. That is, they don't "reason".
Yes its a bad sickness because like the Left who's afflicted with Political Correctness your brand of LP/Reason Mag libertarianism is also "smug, entitled, elitist, privileged jumping down the throats of ordinary folks who aren't up-to-date on the latest requirements of progressive society".
Example: The Ron Paul R3VOLution. You repeated with glee The New Republics (TNR) selective 33 quotes from his financial newsletter and helpfully rebranded them as a "Ron Paul's racist newsletter". You and your fellow travelers without question accepted TNRs claims at face value. Moreover, your PC sick brand of LP/Reason Mag libertarianism could not and WOULD NOT join the R3VOLution in 2008 and vote for a republican because well you know, republicans are "racist, sexist, homophobic, and bigoted" - without question! Not only that it gets worse. Your sick PC brand of libertarianism has fallen in love with "the party", that's right you love the "L" label by your name, it defines you, its your identity now and could not put on an "R". You're afflicted by "Party". Well done comrade.
Just like the Bernie Sanders loving democrats could not tear the "D" from their chest and vote their principles by replacing the "D" with a "G" for Jill Stein, so too did you fall in line and vote for Bob Barr. Aww yes, the Party must come first and you serve it well.
Lets face it, to you the LP & Reason Mag is "perfect on principle" and you won't 'go there' to correct you're poorly REASONED (how ironic) mistakes.
How sick is your brand of libertarianism? So sick that you did not tear into TNRs 33 quotes against Ron Paul by putting them back into context and defining your terms, oh now, you were MUCH TOO SMUG AND DELIGHTED TO SPREAD THE RACIST SMEAR. You accept the Left's terms, VAGUE and self serving ill defined terms for "race", racism, bigotry, bias, sexism, homophobia, etc. George Orwell, or is it the Party, would be proud of you. On any chosen day 2+2 = 5, oh yes, just like any chosen day this is "racist" and this is "not racist" -- its suits the Party. And like a virus, you spread the PC sickness far and wide and WITHOUT QUESTION.
With libertarian "friends" like these, is it any wonder why other libertarians don't like your brand and created the R3VOLution in the first place? Is it any wonder why they rebranded Liberty OUTSIDE of the LP/Reason axis and had HUGE success with it? Can you say "$6 million dollar Money Bomb" Gary Johnson? Opps! NO YOU CANNOT. But we can. We did.
To paraphrase: 'Political correctness is the social force that claims a righteous moral high ground that is illusionary and holds everyone in contempt for not being progressive and seeks to ridicule & exclude everyone else outright'. Reason Mag and the LP are helpful leftist dupes for they never ever question that moral high ground. Case in point, this essay here, where Robby Soave attempts to show the left where they went wrong. Sick libertarianism supports the false moral high ground of Political Correctness.
"Do we really want to discourage people from being polite? From having good manners?"
https://nicichiarasa.wordpress.com/2016/11/10/ political-correctness-my-ass/
I don't think that this issue was that big an issue and didn't rise to the level of trade agreements and the oligarchy, but it is an issue in certain segments of society.
But if true, it means that Americans have no interest in individual rights, but inflicting their will on others to create social order and that's frightening. That means that rights do not exist, only privilege at the discretion of the powerful. For example, either a person who feels that he or she is the wrong sex has the right to live as he or she sees fit or no one does, each of us must live as those is power dictate. That is the tyranny of the majority that James Madison wanted to avoid in his addition of the Ninth Amendment.
Nonsense. Political Correctness is not some evil. It is a term used by the right to sum up every morally righteous view they can't stomach and don't want to accept.
You may be right that this is why Trump received many votes, but to hold it up as a problem for the left to deal with is laughable. All one needs to do is watch Trumps speeches to see why he epitomizes everything wrong on the right. Women as objects, racism (always veiled but definitely there), and fear as a tool for the masses.
He won because he looked at the right and calculated exactly what they would buy. It's an old sales tool we old school insurance salesmen called 'creating the need'. 30 year old in perfect health, 'You and I both know something could happen to you tomorrow and then... What about your family?'
Don't believe me? Listen to his speeches. "I'm with you. We all know, crime is a problem. A big problem. Bigger than ever..." This is nonsense. Yes, crime is a problem, but he is magnifying it, just as the insurance salesman magnifies the chances of something happening to a healthy 30 year old father.
It's one of the reasons I no longer sell insurance.
Well put - You are spot on.
Good piece, Robby.
Re: "I recently appeared on a panel with CNN's Sally Kohn, who described political correctness as being polite and having good manners."
I call "being polite and having good manners" PERSONALLY correct, not politically correct, the latter which you describe, uh, correctly.
As for who's a racist, take a look at the most racist act committed in the last few decades, all at the hands of liberals:
"Why affirmative action failed black families where it matters most" http://malemattersusa.wordpres.....-families/
This is NOT what you think it is.
Obviously that's why the polls were so off. Political correctness may cow people into telling a pollster what they think the "right answer" is. Of course, in the voting booth, no one is watching.
The most powerful message driving working class swing voters to Trump was probably "You didn't build that". Not only did they build that, but they resent people who never built anything and live like royalty telling them that.
I'd just like to point out that even many trans people only think there are two genders. They aren't normally transitioning to a third option. Blair White is a popular authority on the subject.
All got to say the PC fascists is REAP MOTHERFUCKERS. You helped create Trump, and like Frankenstein's monster run amok, he's come to destroy you. May you be destroyed, precious snowflakes.
This post made me tear up. You have hit the nail on the head my friend. I have been complaining about Political Correctness run amok for years. My problem is that I have no reader base and I can't articulate it well enough! You have done a superb job of articulation here. I am so heartened to read that someone out there gets it and maybe eventually more people will too.
This applies to no one.
Here's analogy: No antifascist would vote Hitler, just because he's tired of being wrongly accused of being called fascist, if he is sincere antifascist. He would only confirm he's fascist, and that is what others saw. And he's not even forced to vote at all. So, what kind of excuse is that, shifting the burden of someone's responsibility onto others?
As a person who works in education, I see this as an important issue. Many of today's college students are ill-equipped to handle disagreement about issues and immediately want to label such as hate speech. If someone disagrees about an issue like gay marriage, transgenderism, or illegal immigration, the discussion is immediately shut down by accusing someone as being homophobic or racist. We need to learn how to listen to differing opinions without resorting to calling names. While I don't agree with much of what Trump has said, it has been refreshing to see someone speak his mind without fear or censorship. I don't like what he says, but it's important that he and every American retains the right to free speech.
If ever these students finish their education and enter the corporate world, they're gonna have to get used to arbitrary rules governing 'hate speech' and a lot more besides.
"The leftist drive to enforce a progressive social vision was relentless, and it happened too fast."
Nonsense. It is not 'leftist.' America's corporate world is completely on board with this vision. Their lavish donations to Clinton and Obama show us this.
Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.
Do you really think that corporate behavior better defines the left right dichotomy? Or is it possible that corporations merely reflect the politics of those that run them?
Corporations have been leading the way on many of these fronts, rather than leftists. Gays, for example, were welcomed in among corporate ranks while the leftists, Obama and Clinton, dragged their feet for years over the issue of gays in government service.
What is the solution? It's easy to identify the problem. Trump proved it's easy to get haters to hate. But what are we going to do about that? Seriously, what are the solutions, the opposite of being PC? Should we allow people to "tell it like it is". Should we allow the President of our country to say, "grab them by the p*ssy"? Should we allow the President of the UNITED States to call Mexicans rapists? I say the term politically correct is offensive to those who only the see the word political and shut down. I would say the term could use an overhaul. How about respect or tolerance. Sure, you have the right to say whatever you want, but there are consequences to pay for your words and your actions. The only saving grace is knowing more people voted for Clinton than Trump, not by much, but it was the majority. The people who didn't vote, they need to take these next four years to educate themselves. If they don't like the candidates that were offered then they should run themselves. Obviously there aren't any qualifications, if Trump can be President, any MAN can that's for sure.
Clinton did not have a majority since she had less than 50% of the vote.
Your electoral system (like ours in Canada) does not result in a true reflection of the numbers. It is not proportional. So it is possible to win an election without a literal majority. You didn't realize this?
"The only saving grace is knowing more people voted for Clinton than Trump, not by much, but it was the majority."
That statement is incorrect. You didn't realize this?
Thanks for pointing out that with freedom comes responsibility.
Re your final sentence: Yes, SO much misogyny apparent, though I do feel that HRC had only herself to blame - she didn't think of the optics, and how shifty and arrogant her behaviour would look. Heck, how shifty and arrogant it was! Trump supporters were looking for an outsider, someone relatable. But in terms of qualifications there was just no comparison, even without considering what a hateful buffoon Trump is.
I hope for all our sakes it turns out OK...
No, I'm not buying this tired old meme of PC. Trump won because he tapped into the very real and justified anger of working men and women who have been cheated, lied to, and abandoned by a system that favours the wealthy and powerful - Dems AND Repubs. Clinton is a perfect example of the elite establishment insider - which is why choosing her as a candidate was political suicide. In short, the reason was economic, the vote a retaliation, and the outcome a disaster. But PC? Most of the people who supported Trump are too busy keeping their heads above water to be worried about niceties of speech.
"Politically Correct" is a favorite meme of the right precisely because it is undefined (as the author's example shows). I have not heard of a single example of freedom of speech being stifled in the name of PC - it is a strawman argument.
Is it a silly "liberal" frill to think about whether transgender people, for example, would have a preference for language that respects their identity? I suspect that transgender people would disagree, pace those "regular folks" who just can't get their heads around the idea that diversity exists. Try listening to the minorities in question and finding out what their experience is, rather than dismissing our demands that we be given the same respect and dignity as you.
btw, Lefties were the first to use the term as an in-joke about being overly careful. It's a humane foible, and so much better than its alternative.
" I have not heard of a single example of freedom of speech being stifled in the name of PC - it is a strawman argument."
Damn...that's funny. oh..wait....you were serious?

Political correctness is a slippery euphemism. The exact technical term the looters struggle to evade is a little too blunt, a little too revealing. But anyone can put the hypothesis to the test. Switch in the real term--politically communistic--whenever you see PC and all of the pieces fall into place. The looters could have repealed prohibition and made a giant stride for womankind, but noooooo. Looting the mercantile world for carbon taxes to subsidize Red China--over the protests of 32000 genuine scientists was more important.
While I don't disagree with the writer, his article is a supercilious, over-simplification and discredits the very real reasons of why Trump was elected. Trump was elected because people are legitimately concerned about the direction of America on the issues. Trump's direct style gives added emphasis to those issues, but the pc corformity police social atmosphere did not get him elected all by itself...
Political Correctness is more accurately called cultural Marxism. "Cultural Marxism is a branch of western Marxism, different from the Marxism-Leninism of the old Soviet Union. It is commonly known as "multiculturalism" or, less formally, Political Correctness." (reference) http://www.marylandthursdaymee.....arxism.htm
Trump one because the Democrats (AKA: The Party of Hate) told millions of hard working Americans that have followed the rules by graduating from High School, learning a trade or going to college, and working hard for what they had were told they were Racists, Nazis, Deplorable, and (I hear) irredeemable. The arrogant LEFT hates people who do not support it and are willing to use the power of the Federal Government against them... ANY ONE remember the IRS and Tea Party?
"Trump one because the Democrats (AKA: The Party of Hate) told millions of hard working Americans that have followed the rules by graduating from High School, learning a trade or going to college, and working hard..."
Don't let these racist Trump supporters fool you. They don't work all that hard. Anyone remember the Alamo? Gold-bricking whites sitting around getting slaughtered by hard working Mexicans.
I don't disagree with all of this, but people should be called what they want to be called, period. There's nothing inherently wrong with being PC, but many have definitely taken it too far.
"There's nothing inherently wrong with being PC..."
Insofar as there is also nothing wrong with being a raging asshole I accept your point. Similarly there is likewise nothing wrong with pointing out that someone is being a raging asshole.
There is something wrong with hurting people. Leslie Rasmussen said she remembered Brock Turner as a nice guy and she thought maybe drinking culture and partying culture and his past record of decent, respectful behavior should be considered when sentencing him and maybe even he hadn't actually committed rape, maybe he actually didn't realize she had passed out.
The jury disagreed with her and, as a friend of Brock's, she would not have been allowed on the jury.
Her private letter to the judge (after the conviction) was leaked and she was seriously hurt (economically) by people who said she isn't allowed to have an opinion that differs from theirs because she's "supporting rape culture." Therefore, her band's gigs should be cancelled and she should dig ditches instead.
"You crossed the line first, sir. You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand...With respect, Master Wayne, perhaps this is a man that *you* don't fully understand, either."
"You crossed the line first, sir. You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand...With respect, Master Wayne, perhaps this is a man that *you* don't fully understand, either."

All of this could have been solved by applying the Non-Aggression Principle to social power (and in some cases, political power).
The bullying tactics used by PC warriors is basically social power violently initiated against their targets. If they had chosen to peaceably inspire non-PC people to change their own minds (aka education), they would not be hated.
But instead, they committed violence with their social power (especially obvious amongst Hollywood celebrities) and then sought to expand this violence into political power and legal power (resulting in fines for using non-PC language).
There's plenty of right wing political correctness out there. I see it all day here in Louisiana. Don't you dare sit for the pledge or the entire town police force will boycott your football game. They stick their "In God We Trust" decals on all of our public vehicles. They shove their mentally retarded religious beliefs in our faces constantly and "you're a bigot" if you call bullshit on it. This political correctness sickness is a bipartisan phenomenon.
And now to explain the election results to the libertarians and Reason contributors..
Conceit is followed by paranoia.

Reason is my favorite source for thoughts and ideas, and this is perhaps the most deadon, relevant, and important article I have read in years. Unfortunately, I can not share it because of one very big misstep. Soave calls Trump a racist. I voted in line with my libertarian beliefs for Gary Johnson and was not particularly fond of Trump, but I do not think he is a racist. We need to be careful about throwing that word around like liberals do, or else it will lose its meaning.
Robby had to virtue signal.

"What is political correctness? It's notoriously hard to define"
Hard to define? Not much of a libertarian, are you?
Political correctness is the indirect and direct pressure by special interest groups to inhibit any free-speech activity that is counter to their ideology.
Political correctness is anti-free-speech. Grow a pair Robby, and call it what it is.
I agree that from a tactical standpoint, the left is lost and confused. But the right, in their babyish rejection of political correctness is equally silly. Political correctness and the rampant anti-"libtards" that populate the internet are counteracting forces. At the end of the day though, I have more sympathy with the left because they are actually trying to protect people while the anti-PC trolls are just venting hateful anger instead of trying to meet the pc crowd in any kind of constructive way.
bullcrap
PC means that no one can have a rational conversation about immigration without being called a xenophobic racist.
PC means that no one can have a rational conversation about marriage without being called a homophobe.
PC means that no one can have a rational conversation about climate changes without being called an anti-science troglodyte or a shill for big-oil if you are actually a scientist
PC means that a white person can never ever say anything negative about a person of color without being called a RACIST!
PC means that a male can never ever say anything negative about a woman without being called a SEXIST!
So get your head out of the sand and actually acknowledge the utter assault of free speech and free thinking that the Owellian PC bullshit actually is.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Try to educate yourself, seriously. Read; listen to different sources. Learn.

The NFL and ESPN are being destroyed too. Ratings plummeting. Maybe people who aren't racist, who do their best to always treat people fairly and who don't see through the false myth of 'race' got sick and tired of being called racist?! Many of these people won't speak up outright thanks to political correctness but they'll sure speak through changing the channel, and acting against a narrative in any way they can otherwise. One way was voting for trump apparently.
After Obama was elected, did we have racists going around beating, assaulting, car jacking Obama supporters in mass? No. Were there cases of this here and there throughout the USA? I wasn't made aware of any. Did the KKK rise up and become what it had been decades before? No. The KKK remained a limp organization and to this day remains a limp organization, despite hysterical rhetoric that says otherwise.
On the other hand, in the last several days I've seen news on a white 16 year old getting assaulted for supporting Trump, an elderly white man being carjacked, assaulted and dragged down the street for having a trump sticker on his car. Bigotry is a problem in our culture but damn if hypocrisy isn't more of a problem.
People are going to push back.
Nonsense! And part of the reason I have ceased supporting the Libertarian movement. The catch phrase "political correctness" is universally used by right wing (and "libertarian") boors, Trump and his defenders for example, to respond to any objection to even the vilest public statements. And Trump has broken some fresh ground in vileness and will probably continue to do so, with support from some claiming to be libertarians. Some left wing crackpots have tried to stigmatize civil, respectful disagreement by "speech codes" of some sort. But the overflowing sewer of racial, ethnic, and sexual filth that we have been treated to by the right and especially the "alt-right" can hardly be blamed on that. Trump is a thug, his followers love it, and apparently quite a few libertarians can't hide their smirks. Nobody on the left, whatever their faults, did this; the right did it all by themselves.
Not sure which alternative universe you live in, but this certainly doesn't represent anything I've experienced.
Nature created males and females and until nature changes this, there will only ever be males and females. No pronoun will ever change this fact. And before someone attempts to assert that a hermaphrodite is gender neutral, a hermaphrodite is genetically male with XY chromosomes, no matter which gender they choose.
And PC can suck my hairy balls. I'll think, believe and say whatever the hell I like. I don't a shit about your tender feelings.
Also, I agree with just about everything Milo Yiannopoulos says, the guy is absolutely awesome.

Political Correctness seems rooted in a campus phenomenon. My take is this:
"Variation is the enemy of quality", Deming or Taguchi I can't find out which. And since we all want quality we must do our best to stamp out variation.
But wait,
"Uniformity is the enemy of knowledge", Pound, based on 40 years in manufacturing. So if the liberals on campus can eliminate variation, including speech and opinion they will simultaneously eliminate a major source of knowledge, critical thinking, and even our ability to get along with one another. To my mind that is the major reason for education in the first place. So their success will lead inevitably to their failure and a dumber America.
What a load. Dump/his supporters call anyone who opposes them out when the opponent fails to observe the rules of decorum. Like everything else about that crowd, their jettisoning of political correctness is a lie. It continues to apply to everyone but them.
Trump won because he promised to fix the overreaches of the Federal Government, and get them out of our hair in every endeavor Americans attempt. And choosing judges, and politicians, who actually adhere to their Constitutional pledge, was paramount. Political correctness is a small sip of tea to most Americans who voted for Trump. Government run amok was the primary cause of the left's downfall, other than running a corrupt, foul candidate for office. The list of Fed overreach, with Congresses' and Presidents' unconstitutional actions had finally led working Americans to a point where their freedoms were being relinquished without recourse, which, effectively killed due process for all citizens. 'Ignorant', and 'uneducated' white Americans were somehow able to understand these principles, which the 'educated' and 'elites' could not, mired in their fantasy of elitism. Americans, who work for an honest living with their hands, somehow understand more about right and wrong, as far as their lives, and the country's future are concerned, than the 'educated' and 'elitists', no matter how often the mainstream media misleads its audience, regarding who the 'educated' are. When a plumber must adhere to regulations exceeding three hundred forty seven pages in extent, he knows something is wrong with the system. When a doctor cannot prescribe medications he knows are correct for a patient, because of Fed intervention
The main reason Trump won: "I will cut taxes for workers and the middle class massively. Hillary wants to raise taxes." If the President-elect really wants to get the rest (a majority) of Americans with him, he will endeavor to fulfill that promise by ending the federal personal income tax on individual Americans. To do that, he will merely have to enforce the Constitution. Furthermore, eliminating that enslaving tax is the only way he can keep his promise to "drain the swamp." You can't drain the DC swamp and keep it drained without blocking the inflow of tax money, which stagnates upon entering the swamp. In order not to get eaten by those two notorious invasive species, the bureaurat and the congresscritter, which currently infest the swamp, he will need to humanely capture and remove all of them. Want proof of the danger to Trump when he arrives in DC: DC Election Results: Hillary 93%, Trump 4%!!! With numbers that low, none of the Republicans who live there could possibly have voted for him. He will be walking into a minefield laid by establishment politicians of both parties and a nest of bureaurats with the media cheering everytime a mine explodes. He can only hope to succeed if he cuts off the taxes on which the rats and critters feed.
I guess this guy gets it right, although it sounds like he's actually part of the problem because he buys into the fundamental ideology at the core of political correctness.
