UPDATED! Gary Johnson on Jimmy Kimmel Live: Millennials Are Getting "Screwed"
Hey kids! You're paying for entitlements you won't get, subsidizing health care for old people who are rich, and fighting senseless wars.
UPDATED AT 2:48 P.M.: Second YouTube embed below is the full interview with Johnson; well worth a look-see.
Immediately after last night's final presidential debate, Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson appeared on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss a wide range of topics, including debt and deficits, marijuana legalization, foreign policy, and whether the former two-term New Mexico governor plans to run again in 2020 (answer: no). Here's Johnson explaining why he's polling well among millenials. It's worth a quick watch, as it lays out the mostly undeclared generational warfare that has been rolled out through most of the 21st century. Younger, relatively poor Americans are being forced to pay for the health care, retirement, and safety of older, wealthier people. The big catch? Those same entitlement programs are unsustainable, so they will be long gone by the time that millennials expect to collect on their "investments."
Note: It's not exactly clear what Johnson when he says he's winning millennials. Yes, he's doing quite well with voters under the age of 35 and past polls showed him leading with voters between the ages of 18 and 24. But Hillary Clinton holds a massive lead among millennials, with a recent USA Today/Rock the Vote poll giving her 78 percent, Donald Trump 20 percent, and Johnson 8 percent.

Hasn't Jimmy Kammel been pretty openly cheerleading for Hillbot? Maybe GayJay could make him cry again by killing a lion.
I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbour told me she was averaging $120 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I'm my own boss. Go to this web site and click Tech tab to start your work.... http://www.ImdbCash.tk
Is that enough to go lion-hunting in Kenya?
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link,
go? to tech tab for work detail,,,,,,, http://www.highpay90.com
Who knows?
We do know that both, like Reason, are avoiding videos full of violence, vote fraud and corruption.
Kimmel wanted Cheech and Chong but instead got policy discussions!
I wonder where Gen X fits in. I certainly feel like I've been getting screwed the last couple decades.
Not sufficiently derpy. Gen X is, in an age old tradition, becoming more conservative as they age and are thus forgotten.
Gen X Lives Don't Matter
We never had a chance.
Howe and Strauss wrote back in 1991 that the Baby Boomers would be incredibly demanding of attention and social support in their old age (check) while Gen X would be the ones to say basta.
Gen X really did get screwed. Not a single president from that era yet. Baby boomers have maintained control of that office for a while now (and for the next four years will continue to do so). Millenials are just beginning to reach the age where they could run for president.
I prefer 'progressive lives have no value'.
Reality bites, man.
Gen X (present company excepted, of course) has grown old and ugly, while Millennials are young and sexy.
I wonder where Gen X fits in. I certainly feel like I've been getting screwed the last couple decades.
I'd revel in the irony but that's a total hipster move. As a devout member of Gen X I say emphatically, "meh."
Bill Clinton was the best president in the adult lifetimes of us gen xers.
Think about that.
5 hours til happy hour
No.
Ronnie. Not Bill.
This.
Or, possibly, Ford, as he did nothing.
I don't consider being old enough to vote for Reagan as gen x.
Gen X is usually early 60s (the Kennedy Assassination is often used as a convenient cutoff point) and either Reagan's election or the end of the 81 recession as the end point. So the oldest Gen Xers may have gotten to vote for Reagan's reelection.
No really early 60s, more like 1965. I am an older Gen Xer and turned 18 in 1984. Just in time to vote for Reagan...but I don't recall voting. I think I was high at the time.
Voting for Reagan was groovy.
We've already been fully depreciated.
It's the liquidation phase that should really concern you, JW.
That's a disgusting masturbation euphemism.
Masturbation is not disgusting! Unless you've watched my sister do it. That's disgusting. Honestly I think she's doing it wrong or something. I don't think it should make that big of a mess.
We basically don't count. Politics and journalism are basically just advertising and for a lot of reasons advertisers don't give a damn about Gen X...
http://www.adweek.com/news/adv.....n-x-170539
There are actually pretty good odds that we will have either 1 or no Gen X Presidents after having had 3 consecutive 2 term boomer Presidents and likely a 4th one termer (I can't see either Hillary or Trump winning a second term) because the oldest of the millenials turned 35 last year and by 2024 they'll be in their mid 40's and be starting to be viewed as viable candidates
We basically don't count.
True. Gen X is truly the "Lost Generation", invisible and taken for granted, as you so astutely point out.
Interestingly, according to Strauss-Howe, the Lost Generation was the last Nomad Generation before Gen X, so there fate is likely to be ours.
They say that like it's a bad thing... But interesting read.
I wonder where Gen X fits in.
Doing actual work that boomers are too old to do and Millennials are too stupid and self absorbed to do.
The thought that the libertarian moment is caused, if not dominated, by Gen Xers saying "Whatever." to history makes Lovercraft's work seem almost cheery and optimistic.
*standing O* Fuck those older and younger than us, they all suck.
You don't matter. It's going to be about the babay boomers and their echo boom for the next 25 years. What is the echo of generation X? A whimper.
According to Strauss-Howe, Gen X is a Nomad generation:
According to the theory we define ourselves in opposition to the dominant generation when we reached young adulthood (in our case the Baby boomers, a Prophet generation).
Unfortunately, we're also a recessive generation so we end up getting defined by our error instead of defining our era.
So short version, we as a generation tend to never fully integrate into society and end up mostly focusing on ourselves rather than trying to change the broader culture.
I was definitely under-protected. How I loved it! Lots of freedom, even though I always had part-time jobs as a kid. I definitely focused on me (another masturbation euphemism?) and still consider myself an outsider.
The billy idol punk band?
Yep.
Excellent showing by Johnson.
He went a little overboard on heroin but still an excellent appearance.
Hope he reconsiders not running in 2020.
No, most not definitely really at all
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Powerball lightning road paver uncle company, sweet tarts pompousity.
If your going for the Agile Cyborg motif, may I suggest something along the lines of, "Mountains of pancaked nipples llow with the buttery shit syrup from angels sweet, sweet bountiful breasts because the sour buttered twat of our own fucking indifference lies to the road to gas stations of despair my lovely corpse of husky hope..."
Or something like that.
Is llow the sound a llama makes?
Rhywun shoots.... and scores!
That's... uncanny.
When GM takes the special Ukrainian LSD, he becomes Agile.
Kind of like Dom DeLuise in Cannonball Run.
X-Men are also uncanny. Wait a minute..........Gen X........Uncanny X-Men............
I sense a trend.
This is similar to the reviews I write whenever I purchase anything from Amazon, and they keep hitting me up for a review. Apparently they don't police them before they get posted. I write some pretty weird shit.
The Romans they go the house?
I don't know, but I think we should get straight to the biscuits.
You go to your polling place. You pull one lever and a box opens. A skunk is there with its business end pointed straight at your face. You get sprayed immediately. Pull another lever and you get the same thing. Those are your Democrat and Republican levers. You're told ahead of time that's what you're getting - it's not a surprise - and it plays out precisely as you were told. You won't touch any of the other levers regardless because that would be "wasting" your vote. You came for the skunks and that's exactly what you'll get. Then you can proudly walk around with your "I voted" sticker on your shirt, but you don't need it. Everyone already knows what you did by the smell emanating from you that lingers for another four years.
I fell for the "Most important election of our lifetime! You can't throw your vote away!" tripe once. And I felt soiled afterwards. Haven't voted R or D since. For president anyway.
I've had pretty much the same experience. I voted for Kerry and felt dirty afterwards. I'm pretty sure that's the only D/R I've voted for for president.
I fell for it until McCain, and at that point I finally thought about it and said to myself, "Why am I going to vote for someone I absolutely can't stand?"
That's a nice metaphor.
I always like "if you are being offered the choice between getting kicked in the nuts and punched in the face, I'll at least ask for something else".
If I dont vote for them, the wrong lizard will get elected!
I wish we could go back to electing lizards. I'm not sure Douglas Adams could even have predicted how much worse things could really get.
Unless it has a valid excuse for its absence, I think we need to fire the verb assigned to that sentence.
Wasn't what's-her-name fired for this sort of thing?
I can totally believe the slut-shaming patriarchy would her like that.
What you there, I see it.
I'm literally laughing out loud at this comment thread.
Somebody accidentally that whole sentence.
So, he's not incorrect. He's winning millennials. He didn't say winning all millennials, or even most. He just said he's winning an undisclosed amount of millennials.
I wish Johnson had a better shot. Even though he's not the best libertarian candidate choice out there, he's the best choice for libertarians.
If the Libertarian party cared about getting libertarians organized to vote, they wouldnt have nominated that statist goon when they Perry, McAffe, Feldman, and even though hes a GOP dropout petersen at least understood SOME of the principles associated with liberty. Nope they decided to abandon principles for thinking they could get moar votes with Johnson, a weaksauce middle of the road republicrat, and now they are getting ignored by the large part of libertarians because we are a party of principle and we wont abandon principle for the sake of party. Johnson represents the abandonment of principle for the sake of party, and god forbid he actually does sort of well (on a fluke since the other two are so universally dispised) that the ruling class of the Libertarian party thinks GOPlite is the recepie for success and crams another johnson down our throats in 4 years..... nope fuck them, they abandoned principles and are no different than the other two parties at this point.
None of those candidates, with the exception of McAffee because of the crazy factor, would have been invited on Kimmel or CNN or any other national media. Johnson may be a mediocre libertarian, but he has the credibility of having held two terms as a state governor. The pack of unknowns would be standing outside with Jill Stein looking in.
Agree
You've got to love the purists ranting about "principles" and phony "purity."
Gary Johnson will get more votes in just this election cycle than all the purist LP candidates running for office in every election in US history up to this point COMBINED.
And that's the point of politics -- getting votes.
Not being the Patron Saint of Phony Purism.
But if he's getting votes by abandoning principles, then what the hell is the point?
The point is to qualify for federal funding next cycle which would allow for presenting the L message to a wider audience.
Winning! /Trumpderp
If you can't get everything you want at once, right now, perfection achieved, what's the point of trying to go in the direction you want and get some of your agenda, when everybody else is going to take you far down the road in the direction you don't want to go?
The Democrats figured this out ages ago: if you can't get single payer, you go for exchanges with a public option, if you can't get that, you go with Obamacare and whatever you can get NOW. Then you go back and get more later. You keep ratcheting to where you want to go.
The income tax started as a "temporary" war measure... then it became permanent, but just for the rich. Then it kept getting expanded. Then along came withholding. Then brackets kept expanding...
If you can't get full drug legalization you go for pot now, and come back for more later. You can't eliminate taxes now, you cut the rates. Play the long game. Get something today and come back for more tomorrow. If you want to be pure and stick to all or nothing, you get nothing. They get everything.
Hmmm, lets see.
We can nominate an ideologically pure libertarian, pull somewhere between half and 1 percent of the vote like always and be summarily ignored by the news media.
Or, we can nominate a generally respected 2 term governor who while not great on libertarian philosophy or policy is at least 70% libertarian and is espousing policies that if he did somehow manage to win would actually help move the country at least a little in a more libertarian direction and still be likely to be passed by Congress and then be given extensive free national media coverage and generally be taken and portrayed as a serious and legitimate candidate resulting in libertarian ideas (even if imperfect versions of them) reaching people who have never encountered an actual libertarian in real life and have a realistic shot at 5 to 7% of the popular vote.
Libertarians with republican connections (Johnson, Ron Paul) will get more support from the center right, where libertarianism and conservatism overlap. Much of Johnson's base (ironically enough) is mostly white "purists" who refuse to vote Trump or Clinton.
But the white base isn't growing any larger, and even now Johnson isn't doing that well among minorities. Where's the growth potential? The LP will continue to nominate moderate libertarians who lives on disillusioned republicans and two party hating millennials?
Let's say someone like Mcafee is nominee. Maybe he has the money and resources to run ads, get industry support, and run a more serious campaign. Gary Johnson has all the personality of a potato and focused almost exclusively on making the debates. He didn't (or couldn't afford to) run a campaign that might leave an impression on non partisan voters.
Mcafee has baggage for sure, but there's a reason why some of us wish he was the nominee. We understand that it takes money and marketability to win elections, and we don't care for the government restraining campaign spending. A boring candidate who's 70% purity rating wasn't going to inspire anyone - not his own base, and most partisan voters. And by 2020, the situation resets and most protest votes might go to more conventi0nal options.
Yeah, let's nominate an insane murder suspect who fled prosecution. That's a great way to win office.
Not agreeing on the immediate dissolution of all government on Inauguration Day isn't "abandoning principles."
There are plenty of libertarians who aren't at the tippy-top of the Nolan Chart. They're legitimate candidates who advance libertarian ideas.
The really annoying thing for me personally is when the fake-purist "he's only 90% and 80% on the Nolan chart" purists make up bullshit excuses to shill for Ron Paul and other far-from-purists.
This is politics. If you demand fealty to your little red book and expulsion of heretics, go start a religion.
Err at current Johnson is slated to pull way more votes than any lp candidate ever has or any of those other candidates would have.
The thing you fail to realize is that being ignored by the majority of LP members is only costing him maybe 200,000 votes at most. Being a libertarianish middle of the road Republican running on the LP ticket is gaining him easily 500,000 and possibly several multiples of that
Advocating a 20% cut to the federal budget is not at all close to weaksauce middle of the road republicrat.
But Wedding Cakes! It's all about wedding cakes! He is a HERETIC! We should have nominated Irwin Schirr!
If the Libertarian party cared about libertarianism they would have hunted down and killed anyone who helped make the 'libertarian case' for Obama.
Yes, that's sarcasm. But only just just.
One problem with some libertarians I associate with, is the give a shit factor. They don't see the point of expending energy for their cause. People think we're bastardized social anomalies, so the keep to themselves. I'll keep on doing what I do. I have opened the eyes of a lot of people this year. I've converted a lot of people that were having trouble deciding between herpes, and eating a shit sandwich. I tell them investing in a losing team that you believe in this season, will get you better draft picks for the next season. I don't condone GOPlite, but if it gets our foot in the door, I guess I can live with it.
Did that make sense? Probably not. I should stick to writing nonsense.
"But Hillary Clinton holds a massive lead among millennials, with a recent USA Today/Rock the Vote poll giving her 78 percent,..."
To which, then, I say fuck them. They are getting exactly what they are voting for, a thorough fucking over.
*Everyone* is getting what *they're* voting for.
And those Millennials who said George W. Bush killed more people than Stalin? I wonder which candidate is getting *their* votes?
The ones I know want free college and free healthcare.
If free college somehow gets instituted, my student loan company will never see another dime.
From me that is.
Yes, but everyone else will be on the hook for it. WIN-WIN!
The good thing is that since hillary says she's for it that means she's really not. It's just a lie to get barista votes.
Same here. I'll be goddamned if I keep chipping away if these Marx-loving brats get free tuition.
What does Gay Jay think this is, 2004?
Well, the blazer & tee shirt combo with the relaxed mom jeans look *does* scream a penchant for antiquated, out-moded, trends and ideas. Now if he only added the sockless Cole Haan's to the mix, instead of the sneakers, he may have had something there.
I can't be bothered to watch or read.
Did GJ clarify that it's the D's who are fucking the M's?
Where is the Social Security program going to "go" that will mean that Millenials won't be able to collect?
I think the focus on the debates was his biggest error. If he had focused his resources on states where he had a chance, and got to a point of being close to leading in at least one state (or district, in the case of Nebraska or Maine), the media attention would have come to him the way it has to McMullin recently. Hopefully the LP candidate for 2020 will learn from these mistakes. Hillary should be easy to beat, especially if the Republican primaries are a fiasco like they've been for the last few cycles.
Hopefully the LP candidate for 2020 will learn from these mistakes.
If you think lessons learned during the 2016 elections are applicable to the 2020 elections, you need to brush up on your (recent) history books.
I think there's a distinct possibility that the libertarian candidate in 2020 will need to conduct themselves in a manner reverential to the heir apparent lest they find themselves in the midst of domestic civil unrest instigated by Russians.
Hillary should be easy to beat
Sorry, but no. Once the Hillary machine has the presidency, she will use every lever available to consolidate power and ensure a landslide reelection. The only question is when she dumps Kaine and installs her chosen successor.
No savior is coming -- she will be our president for the next 8 years.
You are assuming those levers exist, they largely don't anymore, that's why she's not winning by 50 points
You are assuming those levers exist, they largely don't anymore, that's why she's not winning by 50 points
Go ask Lynch or Comey when the last time power consolidation relied on popular votes or polling points was.
Indeed. Shrill-Bot simply relies on, to invoke a Star Wars-ism, "Fear will keep the other politicians and agencies systems in line. Fear of me and this unencumbered Political Machine and Criminal Foundation Battle Station!"
Methinks the USA has going from Obumble's Banana Republic to Shrill-Bot's Soviet-style Reset Button.
Weaponizing the IRS was just the start. Wait until they do the same to every other Federal agency and then complete the transition to single payer.
This won't so much resemble the Soviet system as it will another for of socialism. One with a less international bent.
Shes not winning by 50 because the rigging would be obvious then, and flye is right, about consolidating power but wrong about the 8 years, with a person like her it is unlikely that they will ever relinquish power once it is attained.
She amasses power for the sake of wielding it in her masters name, for through this she is made immune to laws and granted wealth beyond most humans dreams, she will never allow the structures of power to exist to be used in any manner that isnt fitting to her owners so even that if she is removed from the system, it will continue to serve her interests.
Trump was run as controlled opposition, literally the only person who could have been hated enough to actually lose to the shedeamon.
and voting.... well that never mattered
"her master's name"? Do you mean Satan? 🙂
More likely the LP will overcorrect and go with an unknown outside the LP world, a hard core libertarian with no experience who scares the straights and winds up polling in fractions. Hillary's anti-Citizens United SCOTUS will make sure the most draconian incumbent protection act, I mean campaign finance reform, gets upheld and, combined with her new fairness (to the binary system) doctrine that cripples all but the MSM, it will be impossible for a third party to break through.
With the growing number of Republicans who lean libertarian, it will be
interesting to see how the Repub. party responds to the whole Trump deal.
I'm assuming he loses.
"If there is hope," wrote Nick, "it lies in the millennials."
"Abandon hope all ye who enter here..."
Are you still laboring in foreign parts?
Keep us up to date, if you would.
Oh yes, both Dr. ZG and I are labouring away at the same private hospital, and Odessa is treating us (relatively) well, all things considered in UKR's rather volatile political climate. Despite this, the odds of returning to the USA permanently are extremely low at this point. My wife has no interest in emigrating to the USA, especially given the press the USA has received for some time. She still wants to eventually retire to Italy, sooner if things blow up here again. Estonia is also high on the list of "flee to" places, should the need arise.
My FIL entertains me with his observations of current military goings on (he's a retired military bigwig from the Red Army days) and his anecdotes of how he survived both Afghanistan and Chechnya. Mostly, he just wants to be a doting Dadush with the kids, who are growing like weeds.
Thank you for asking.-)
Good to hear from you. Stay in touch and write a book some day.
Sup?
The only real hope is to exterminate the progs before they really consolidate their control. Instead everyone tries oh so hard to go along to get along with them. All the way to the eventual chains with which will shackle everyone eventually.
One of the promos for last night's Cubs-Dodgers game featured 20 year old pitcher Julio Urias, and it started off by making fun of lazy, worthless Millennials who do nothing all day long.
It was pretty fucking awesome, and got a big laugh out of me, and I suspect many others.
Baby boomers are some of the most dull, lazy people ever to exist.
'So in other words kill the old people'.
Unfortunately, this sort of response is all too common among leftists and progressives. You can't begin a discussion without them resorting to 'you hate poor people' or 'want kids to die' nonsense.
It's not what he was saying Kimmel.
Jesus pick up a fucking book. Your pal Carolla seems to get the gist of it.
Everybody knows that before Medicare and SS, old people were taken out and shot when they could no longer work.
Kimmel ain't no Carolla. More like a Pinto or a Vega.
Tercel.
I was thinking more Aveo.
Indeed they are. They will be the ones inheriting a warming earth and all the consequences that come with it...rising seas, threatened national security, heat waves, stronger storms, crop loss, and more.
Of course, Johnson is just one more who is screwing them about that.
I like how you come into a thread way after everyone else has left to post a comment because you know these people will destroy you if they see it.

Young people go to leftist statist indoctrination centers from the ages of 3-6 until 18-28 (college can last long). They will, until something changes, vote left for a while.
If you value freedom and libertarian values, you will do everything in your power to, at the least, avoid sending your kids to public school. Homeschooling is ideal but obviously not realistic for everyone. If you have to send your kids to public school then do what one parent does at the school I work at (I am working behind enemy lines to plant seeds of libertarianism in the arid wasteland of liberal rhetoric that the schools have cultivated in these kid's minds). He teaches his daughter to look at school through a libertarian lens. She is only nine and she just gets it, she is aware and knows how to play the game while talking with me about the nonsense. FYI I figured this out because dad was wearing Kokesh's shirt "If the troops defended freedom, they'd attack the government" on veterans day when he picked his daughter up. I had to spark a conversation.
