The Cajun Navy, an unorganized group of private citizens with boats, is credited with saving hundreds maybe even thousands of people during the recent flooding in Louisiana. But Republican state Rep. Jonathan "J.P." Perry has proposed a bill that would require those people to get training before they can rescue people in the future. After getting a great deal of push back, Perry said that he was only looking out for Cajun Navy members, trying to make sure they won't get stopped by police or prosecuted for crossing police barricades.

Morning all. I'd say a bunch of Cajuns that live in the swamps have all the 'training' they need. This may have been because they were making the 'heroes' look bad and taking away the spotlight.

Ha, this dipshit is rationalizing his legislation as trying to help volunteers by removing restrictions authorities place on them, instead of, you know, introducing legislation to forbid authorities from interfering with volunteerism. This is the modern GOP. Like Democrats, they just want to regulate the citizen not the state agent. This guy is a slippery fuck.

Right! I mean, people read a bill that requires people to come in and give the government money for a special piece of paper and think the government is trying to take peoples' money in exchange for a permit. This innocuous transaction, mandatory as it may be, is simply a means to totally deregulate the activity, people!!!

Read some government regulations some time, dumbass - do you see anything in there about the government being authorized to regulate itself? It's an unconstitutional abuse of authority for government to pass laws restricting their own use of power - if you want to regulate government/citizen interaction, the only legal and proper course is to regulate the citizen side of the equation. Given the latest unpleasantness, AND the new Democrat governors assholery over it, I'm inclined to think that maybe, just maybe, they're twisting his words to try to make the republican look bad.

Why would I think this? Because, yet again, we're treated to some low level republican being treated as if his local ordinance is some giant thing.

If that's the problem he's trying to solve, "training" won't do a damn thing. The cops still can and will stop them, trained or not. The way to solve that problem is to order the police to get out of the way.
