House Speaker Paul Ryan is standing behind his endorsement of Donald Trump for now...
FEAR THE TRUMP
Hello.
...maybe if Trump actually eats a live kitten at a rally or something.
Ryan looks more like a dog person.
I got me a tortilla press from Amazon deals. I need at least 3 good taco ideas, stat.
I'm already doing ancho braised beef short ribs with pickled onions.
Stir-fried chicken with black beans and kimchee.
I was planning on korean. Good call. I'll make it chicken.
So, dog meat?
"Chicken of the lair"
Tacos al pastor
You'll use that thing twice, maybe three times.
And tonight is that night. You can see why it's a big deal.
Is it one of those 'As seen on TV' items, where the commercial would include hapless buffoon strangling themselves with tortillas, to demonstrate frustrations of making tacos the 'old' way?
Playa is that hapless buffoon. :-p
He thinks it's more important than a cast-iron skillet.
I just brought my Lodge back from the dead. It took a lot of seasonings.
I'd like to bring Veronica Lodge back from the dead. I'd give her a few seasonings.
Did you use use a drying oil like flaxseed?
Chemistry of Cast Iron Seasoning: A Science-Based How-To
Grapeseed. I'm bookmarking that. Thx
Thanks!
great link, My gramma taught me how to season mt Cast iron skillets, but Science! ans Flaxseed oil
Thanks for that link.
My traditional approach to seasoning cast iron involves bacon. Lots and lots of bacon.
True fact: the item I've owned the longest, going back to college, is a cast iron skillet.
I bought a brand new giant Lodge skillet and needed to season it. So one day after using the charcoal grill for some unrelated dish, I slathered the new skillet in shortening and let it burn in the grill til the charcoal burned out. I repeated that a few times that summer and it was pretty good.
The flaxseed method seems more convenient though!
15 years later, I still have that skillet and it is my absolute go-to for stirfry, Indian curries, deep pan pizza, etc. Love, love, love it. It's 15 inches across.
Meh, I built one years ago, and it hangs on my kitchen wall. I use it almost every Sunday.
Homemade or store bought masa?
Maseca.
Kale and tofu with a nice mayonnaise dressing.
You mock, but I just got the Best Foods orange top. Mayonnaise made with lime instead of lemon. It's outstanding with cotija on roasted corn.
You mean Hellmann's.
I'm west of the Rockies. Best Foods.
Surely you realize I was joking.
BTW: Do "jars" of Best Foods mayonnaise have "known as Hellmann's east of the Rockies" on themm
yes, that's why I wasnt confused on the East coast
And you can buy both on the same shelf in Denver.
I know you are joking, but that made me cringe because I know someone, somewhere in the world has or will actually do that.
That's fine, as long as you have a verified heart condition.
braised beef tongue, chopped raw onions, cilantro
The only thing that cilantro improves is the garbage can. Never put it anywhere else.
I'm sorry that you're genetically defective.
*high five*
Cilantro is a vile weed.
Second on the beef tongue, but would recommend pairing with salsa verde.
yes
Mexicans, pot, and ass
I have 2 of those things.
Good feedback, guys. Super helpful.
Playa has Mexicans and ass as far as the eye can see.
Which two?
Don't be coy.
No weed. I already have enough problems paying attention.
Shrimp scampi tacos w/ gouda cheese.
the foodtv.com labs have an awesome slow-cooker pork shoulder. Like, I eat these until I am ill, and then wait an hour and go eat more. It embarrasses my wife.
If Banjos is reading, tell Sloopy these are the tacos I was going to make for our taco throwdown.
That's damn close to my short ribs. I mesquite smoked for 3 hours first, though.
Pork belly, guajillo salsa, pickled onion, queso cotija.
AhI tuna, mango salsa, guacamole.
Fish taco's aren't too bad, and sometimes you get some reciprocation.
I got some beer battered cod. Deep fryer on standby.
Carnitas with homemade guac and shredded napa cabbage.
Very good
Grilled fresh mackerel, shredded cabbage, pico, and lime.
2nd the cabbage, that's key to fish tacos
And fruit salsa.
Crispy fried carnitas with mango salsa
Crock pot up a pork shoulder. Apply some kinda dry rub first. Chunk it up into cubes so it goes faster and has more surface area.
When it's tender, cook up a bunch of chunks on a cast iron skillet, breaking it up as it cooks. When it starts to look dry, it's not dry, it's delicious and done. Slap that on tortilla with raw white onions, cilantro, and the hottest green salsa that you like.
Try doing slow cooking it in orange juice, with some orange liqueur at the end.
Grilled octopus and chorizo. There's a place a block away from me - only place I've seen these and they're freaking amazing.
My brother is on a grilled octopus kick. It's hard to find around here, outside of the Japanese market. But that's the kind of stuff you want to eat raw.
Ground beef in the pan. Add ketchup. Top with cheddar cheese.
You're welcome.
I know you're young, but... still in college?
You basically described my one and only experience ordering Mexican food in Canada.
To be fair, it probably ain't possible to find decent poutine in Oaxaca.
President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are facing questions over that $400 million payment to Iran and the circumstances behind it.
And the weapons went to the Contras? They did this all backwards.
Thank god, finally a comment that's not about making tacos.
Yes, I was afraid we were going to get to hummus and fruit tacos. Is nothing fucked sacred anymore, not even tacos? They've done ruined pizza, for Crikey sake.
http://www.sugardishme.com/mini-fruit-tacos/
Philistine.
maybe if Trump actually eats a live kitten at a rally or something.
"Best pussy ever. Delicious."
It's time for Dirty Limerick Thursday.
We did Bill last week, so this week, let's do Trump.
As always, I'll provide the first line, and the rest of you idiots collaborate and listen on the others.
"There once was an orator named Trump..."
He always took a pre-game dump
"Who was searching for something to hump."
He hit on his sister
And couldn't resist her
And he appointed her to the Supreme Court
The Supreme *Pump*?
Who liked to put things in his rump.
who liked to be kissed on the rump.
He promised awed voters
if they'd be his promoters,
he'd magically fix up their dump.
One line at a time...how many times will people fuck this up?
Don't tie me down with your rules, man.
I'm sorry, did someone page me?
But first they had to play with his pump.
You know who else demanded we, "Stop: Collaborate and Listen"?
Hitler?
You'll never guess how Facebook is changing your newsfeed to deal with blatant click-bait headlines.
Hitler?
With one simple trick?
The trick is Hitler.
Spoilsport.
Here's why that's a problem.
Wow. Just. Wow.
It's Not Okay.
I can't even.
SMDH
Literally?
I see what you did there.
CNN will be hosting a town hall session for Green Party nominee Jill Stein.
Ratings bonanza, to be sure.
If you include the striptease.
Now I'm going to have to vomit.
Just for that, Hilary Clinton has promised to join her for a lesbian act.
Who?
I'm surprised, since Stein is seen to draw vote more from Her Highness.
Will anyone notice the difference from their regular programming?
True fact: Jill Stein and Noam Chomsky live in the same town. In case anyone wonders why I no longer live where I went to high school, there's that.
True story: the other day my stomach was rumbling, and the noise it made sounded like someone said the words "noam chomsky".
Well, this is why, Anacreon. You should feed him tacos.
Cambridge, MA? It's pretty big for a "town".
Lexington, MA
First, they came for the libertarians, and I said nothing........
Will she get to have Bill Weld help with the answers too?
I would hope that Jill Stein people will watch her town hall and see how insane she is, but if anything I think it might make them like her even more. She's not even on the ballot in like 20 states.
Have you talked to Jill Stein people? Many of them make no secret of being totalitarians.
I think of all the four major candidates, she is the one I'm scared of the most.
Anti-establishmentarianism only takes you so far.
Meh, I view her like Trump. She gets elected and faces a hostile legislature that doesn't let her get anything done.
She's already said that she'll take executive order way further than Obama did. You have someone here who is convinced they can do anything they want to and get away with it, laws be damned. You really think some silly Congress will stop her?
Hillary? Or Jill?
Yes.
"We Should Not Be Subjecting Children's Brains To Wi-Fi Screens In Schools. It's Not OK "Jill Stein
WTF is a Wi-Fi screen?
You know what the hell it is, you anti-science Trumplestiltskin!
I have to proclaim ignorance here. I have LED screens in my house, lots of them. I also have a Wi-Fi router, which has nothing to do with screens.
I can't wait until Li-Fi comes out and the 'I freaking loves science' left, proclaims it worse than GMOs and start attacking tractors with pitchforks, and setting Li-Fi screens on fire.
+1 "thing that goes up"
She obviously doesn't know what she's talking about, like most of the luddite left.
[golf clap]
Look there, it's one of them Li-Fi screens! Get it! They use those to frack up monster GMOs that are killing the children!
Dammit, Hyper...
[hearty applause]
Li-Fi GMO fracking is totally funded by the Kochtopus. And they put it in the vaccines of children!
Add something about "high-capacity" and "the shoulder thing that goes up", and you've got a winner.
"President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are facing questions over that $400 million payment to Iran and the circumstances behind it."
Is it wrong to give $400 million in cash to a country we have sanctions against? Well, now I know.
Shouldn't they have at least deducted some to pay reparations to victims of Iranian terrorism?
Yes. All of it.
The government that came from probably got it from US taxpayers in the first place and no longer exists. The current government of Iran has no claim on it and should be paying us.
"Shouldn't they have at least deducted some to pay reparations to victims of Iranian terrorism?"
They seized two million dollars from the Iranian bank to do just that.
Am I the only one who reads up on world events??
Am I the only one who reads up on world events??
How long since your last swirly, nerd?
Today is President Barack Obama's 55th birthday,
if one believes his purported birth certificate.
Today is President Barack Obama's 55th birthday
In his honor.
Goddammit that's creepy.
That's not even the worst one I've heard, but I couldn't find it on YouTube.
The one I heard on a talk radio show in 2008 was a bunch of adults slowly chanting his name, as though at a seance. They weren't quite chanting together, so they sounded all slow and strung out. It was so creepy, I think it might have been a false flag.
Nothing like a little personality cult indoctrination to get kids going in the morning
Fucking creeps.
Hey, how did spreading all of that happiness and freedom work out?
What's 55 in Kenyan years?
And here at the Casa de Animal, not a single shit was given.
Bill Clinton's call for mass voter fraud should be condemned
...Speaking directly to illegal aliens, Clinton stated to an applauding audience of delegates that "if you love this country, you're working hard, you're paying taxes and you're obeying the law and you'd like to become a citizen, you should choose immigration reform over somebody that wants to send you back." Unfortunately for Bill, illegal aliens (and non-citizens in general) aren't supposed to be 'choosing' anyone. Like in every other country in the world, here in America only citizens are supposed to vote....
They don't have to bother with the mask anymore.
You'll never guess how Facebook is changing your newsfeed to deal with blatant click-bait headlines.
This one weird trick to finding out Facebook is still relevant.
#3 will shock you.
A cartoon my my FB feed today was captioned:
9 reasons clickbait doesn't work -- #3 will shock you.
You'll never guess how Facebook is changing your newsfeed to deal with blatant click-bait headlines.
Um, I don't have a Facebook newsfeed.
That's what YOU think.
Only when Robby's doing the links
I do, and you don't want one. If my FB feed were a country, it would be like Venezuela, except more so.
It takes 12 hours to post a comment?
You're forced into posting stories to it.
Shouldn't have this been in the links a few days ago? Was there too much going on since then?
Call me when they're facing tough questions in front of a Congressional Committee, the New York Times, or a Sunday News morning news show. Right now they're facing tough questions from Fox News and a bunch of people on the internet that don't particularly like the idea of paying ransom to Tehran.
Yup, right now Trump's campaign is collapsing because he played 'yo mama so fat' with some angry Muslim guy, and the media can't get enough of it. Meanwhile, our ridiculously in-debt country's president has secretly sent nearly a half-billion dollar ransom to our arch-enemy for four kidnapped sailors, and the media treats the story with all the importance as if Obama left a shirt sleeve unbuttoned.
This makes Iran-Contra seem like small potatoes, but this time the popular team is in office, so no problem!
Normally politics just gets me irritated or makes me laugh and roll my eyes, but for the first time I can remember, I'm actually feeling depressed about our future. Damn this election sucks.
"four kidnapped sailors"
I really fucking hate Iran, where my very religion is illegal and strictly oppressed.
But if you, as active military, WALTZ into a foreign country, without permission to be there, and you get apprehended, that's not a "KIDNAPPING" that's an "ARREST."
Our navy sailors don't get to sail their fucking boats wherever the fuck they want because MURICA. They were apprehended just as any Iranian who sailed into American waters would be (and should be).
They weren't sailors, dipshit.
It is not a ransom. It is the restitution of Iran's property right. If you disaggree with giving it back you are advocating theft and you are not a libertarian.
I don't like Obama but he is right on this.
Speaking of creepy worshipful behavior
If Obama wanted to start a cult, all of those people would be drinking Flavor-Aid as quickly as they could.
Wow, those comments though. Holy crap talk about creepy as hell.
That's pathetic, really. It's actually offensive how thick personality cults become, because these people are all wrapped up in what are essentially characters. Michelle Obama doesn't give a single fuck about anyone but herself amd her family and friends...just like most people.
Yeah but I don't even give a fuck about most of my family and friends.
That's not an Eddie video?
Madonna che bestia!
So Trump is imploding. He might quit. They are doing an intervention. He is doomed.
And yet, Paul Ryan who is up for primary election next Tuesday won't go back on his endorsement of Trump, this despite Trump refusing to endorse him.
Ryan will take back his endorsement on Wednesday?
Probably, but the fact that he isn't doing it now says that Ryan doesn't view Trump the same way the media does.
Not sure of the veracity of the Paul Ryan e-mail shown in this tweet, but it says a lot about how Ryan views Trump.
I don't think he likes him. My point is that he doesn't think Trump is some imploding toxic candidate and fears pulling his endorsement would do real harm to his primary campaign.
A week or so ago, "Trump is dark" went out on Journolist. This week, "Trump is imploding" is the message.
Week 1: dark
Week 2: imploding
Week3: ???
etc.
Maybe Assange can fill in the rest of the agenda?
There is a decent chance that Ryan will lose his primary. I can't describe how happy that would make me.
The polls are all over the map. Personally, I think it comes down to whether the unions turn out against him in the primary, because Wisconsin has open primaries.
I really don't care much one way or the other about Ryan. However, I am actually pleased that Trump isn't endorsing that warmongering weasel McCain.
Really who cares if Trump endorsed Ryan? A majority of voters hate the shit weasel Eddie Munster. Trump endorsing him would actually hurt his election chances. There are a few hundred congress critters, a few hundred million voters and Congress has a 12% approval rating.
Most of the media, including Reason, kept hammering at this all day today after Priebus was interviewed this morning characterizing it as a complete concoction by the media, 100% false.
I could have fully supported Paul, mostly supported Cruz, but now I want to see Trump win just so that he can piss in the eyes of all these lying fuckers.
^This. Paul and Cruz were my top two.
WE CAN'T TOLERATE LIARS
"Roof, 22, was showering at the jail when another inmate left his cell, ran down the stairs and attacked him,"
Left his cell? What. the. fuck. Maximum security honor system?
Don't they leave the doors open sometimes? (I'm just going by old movies.)
That dude has nothing but time to sit and wait for an opportunity. He's probably been looking for one for a while. Only takes fucking up one time, and seriously what are the odds of prison guards not fucking up.
I'm also guessing he was one of many waiting for a shot at that.
Obama and Hillary Clinton are facing questions over that $400 million payment
They're just not answering them.
Sometime in the distant future, Hillary may deign to hold a press conference. Supplicants wishing to ask a question will be allowed to approach within 30 paces of the throne, prostrate themselves before the queen, and humbly submit their question. Any asking rude questions or using the word "email" will be summarily executed.
There may be a reason that she doesn't do press conferences.
That was pretty funny.
Not so fast. She has a well-earned reputation for a violent temper. The concussion/stroke may impact her already questionable judgment. She suffers from severe paranoia.
Is she physically/mentally stable enough to be handling the 'football?'
Not in my view.
Srsly, Drake? Those press conferences, even the ones with people much farther down the totem pole than presidents are cleverly contrived to give the appearance of spontaneity but are actually somewhat scripted. Questions must be submitted in advance. The press do not know upon whom the podium person will call, but do know that only press who are both friendly and well-behaved will be called upon.
OT: Someone I know was bitching and moaning about a Trump Presidency when I told her that all the executive overreaches and civil liberties violations done by Obama has set up a shitty precedent where someone like Trump can abuse the system.
It was surreal because the person twisted themselves into explaining that when Obama did it, it was because the GOP forced his hand. I didn't say anything else but it did lead me to my Damascus moment. People are more than willing to sacrifice theirs and other's freedom simply because of political expediency and fucking the other team over. It's depressing it's also sort of freeing because you realize that it's not the politicians who are assholes. It's the voters.
The politicians are assholes too.
It's assholes all the way down.
Of course they are and probably should have said that above.
Politicians would be unemployed assholes (without welfare benefits) without asshole voters.
It's depressing it's also sort of freeing because you realize that it's not the politicians who are assholes. It's the voters.
Yep, it's always the people.
"Politics is the mind-killer."
I've noticed that political affiliation ranges from
"Sports fan" to "Religious fervor"
It's depressing it's also sort of freeing because you realize that it's not the politicians who are assholes. It's the voters.
Yep. You don't get the politicians you need, you get the politicians you deserve. And the majority of the American people deserve a boot stomping on their throat.
I'd like your short list on his over reaches that the left hates. I could use it
I asked the other day. If somebody answered I did not see it.
Was the ransom paid for the sailors pinched in the Straits of Hormuz, or somebody else?
I think it was the journalists.
The sailors were cut loose after they were videotaped and aired on TV, in violation of several international laws.
"in violation of several international laws."
Like... illegally sailing military into foreign waters??
The Geneva Convention. You may have heard of it.
I believe it was for the 4 prisoners that were being held in Iran, not the other humiliation.
There was no "ransom" paid. We merely refunded illegally seized money to the Iranian taxpayers, the rightful owners.
Today is President Barack Obama's 55th birthday, and supporters are approaching it in a fashion as creepily worshipful as you might imagine.
Who did they get to sing a breathy Happy Birthday to You?
Lena Dunham. She also did it naked.
This is worse than anything that SugarFree has ever posted here.
Not possible, she'd eat the cake before she'd jump out of it.
They rolled her out on the stand where the cake was, crumbs rolling off the sides, with frosting smeared in her hair.
Was her sister in the cake with her?
Hillary's campaign denies FBI, IRS investigations into Clinton Foundation
Of course! No reasonable prosecutor would bring charges!
You have to parse her comments very carefully, just like you did with Bill.
"There's no basis to believe that. I have no knowledge of that," Brian Fallon said Wednesday evening during an appearance on Fox News. "There's no evidence to that effect," he added, calling reports about the investigation "baseless."
Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. How many times have we heard Hillary saying "there's no evidence yada yada yada" instead of just denying whatever she's accused of? But as she has said herself, she'll do her best not to lie to the American people.
No evidence that a reasonable prosecutor would use, anyway.
Notice, he didn't say it isn't happening. He said there is "no evidence of it". That is called a non denial denial. Rest assured, the FBI is investigating. If they were not, this guy would have said as much rather than saying "there is no evidence of that".
"There's no evidence to that effect,"
What the fuck does that even mean?
It means that they are investigating but there isn't any proof that they are. Again, if they were not, this guy would know it and say so.
It means they are trying to figure out how to derail the investigation before it is publicized. Loretta Lynch, meet Bill Clinton.
Does the Canadian Clinton Foundation fall under their jurisdiction since it has interactions and transfers to and from the US one?
No reasonable prosecutor would bring charges!
Or perhaps she's just too big to fail.
I thought people disliked fatties.
Feminist Atlantic waxes conservative.
The Atlantic has a love-hate relationship with men's economic contributions. The magazine alternates between gloating that feminism has destroyed men's economic status once and for all, and worrying that men are no longer fulfilling their traditional roles as bread winners....
Melania Trump's former agent says he got her H-1B visa.
I'd like to go on record as supporting this program.
I wouldn't mind getting behind this one either.
"We got her the H-1B as soon as she came,"
I bet they did.
Maybe she was faking it?
It looks like the program leads to model citizens.
Well done.
The funny thing is that they think pointing out this hypocrisy matters to anyone who isn't already anti-Trump. There is no large bloc of people worried that they'll lose their job to a cheap Eastern European model, and no one is worried about Eastern Europeans going on deranged murder sprees so they can go to heaven. Scandinavian models, yes, because they either die in combat or go to Hel, but not the Slavs.
"House Speaker Paul Ryan is standing behind his endorsement of Donald Trump for now, but could withdraw it in the future for some reason, maybe if Trump actually eats a live kitten at a rally or something."
Uh huh. I have heard this shit all day long after the GOP leadership is on record as saying the whole kerfuffle is entirely manufactured by the media, yet they keep banging the drum.
Stop it.
I think the media has come to grips that Trump could very well win in November and that scares the shit out of them. If he wins, it would make their positions as powerbrokers seem meaningless.
You are exactly right. I suppose looking one of them in the eye and saying on mic and video "I know you. You are a sleaze. I am not responding to you." is unforgivable, even when he was right.
That's why he won't win.
Maybe. The thing is, the more and more transparently they lie, the harder it comes to care about anything they say, and the easier it is to want him to win just to see them suffer.
Tales from the Canadian Liberty Frontier:
Last night I was talking to a friend of mine who declared that he is 'done with Canadian healthcare'. He's spent the last decade with an undiagnosed medical problem, and getting a specialist takes eight to ten months. Every time he gets an appointment with one of these specialists, they do the same tests over and over again, fail to get results and warn that if his symptoms appear again (he loses feeling in his foot mostly) to schedule another appointment with another specialist. Cue another eight to ten month wait for the exact same thing. He lamented that there is no private option because he'd just be willing to throw money at the problem rather than be jerked around.
He'll have to go into exile to get his problem diagnosed properly.
What would the world do if we had the same shitty nationalized healthcare they do?
We'll probably all know the answer to that question within the next 5-10 years.
What is the VA? Chopped liver?
Another stupid Canadian who doesn't appreciate the wonders of not being American.
Another stupid Canadian who doesn't appreciate the wonders of not being American.
You screwed that up Rufus, the second comment was supposed to be en francais.
Something, something, "not one cent for tribute"....
Iran wanted and got their $400 million in cash. It reminds me of that scene in the Taking of Pelum 123 where the cops are trying to drive through Manhattan to get Robert Shaw the ransom money. I have this vision of John Kerry running through Dulles with a dufflebag of cash trying to catch the last plane that night to Zurich.
I picture him on a sailboard, with the money in a waterproof bag strapped to it, windsurfing his way out to international waters where the Iranian ship awaits.
A sailboard rather than a Swift Boat?
Undocumented immigrants can avoid arrest by following simple rules U.S. Customs and Border Protection advertises in a post on its website's homepage. Providing a virtual "how-to" guide in its "Sensitive Locations FAQs", CBP explains that immigration laws are not to be enforced at any of a wide range of designated "sensitive locations" ? so immigrants may be "free" to live their lives "without fear or hesitation".
Oh, I'm sure this is "For information purposes only".
I suppose polling places are sensitive locations?
Well, *schools* are, explicitly.
I'm guessing Tyson Chicken plants are 'sensitive locations', just like Archer-Daniels-Midland megafarms.
What's the fun of being in the government if you have actually have to do the job you were hired to do? What do you think this is, a nation of laws?
Am I the only one concerned by the idea that if government seizes your property in the course of an investigation, that merely returning property you already own to you at the conclusion can be described as the government "paying" you?
I would also be concerned if the U.S. Government released assets seized from an alleged drug kingpin after the alleged drug kingpin agreed to release some kidnapped journalists.
Except the Government had agreed to return the assets before the journalists were released.
And at the time, the GOP was complaining Obama hadn't made the hostages part of the deal to begin with, so they're basically claiming there was a secret conspiracy to do something they were demanding be done anyways.
Nope.
USA Gymnastics: Organization Ignored Charges of Sexual Abuse by More Than 50 Coaches, Report Says
This is, unfortunately, the least surprising news I've heard all day.
Seriously, female gymnasts are like pedo chum. They look like they're underage for far longer than other kids. I'd never trust my kids to one of those coaches.
They also have unbelievably long training hours. So the coaches have more access to them than almost any other sport. Juvenile Bluster is sadly correct. This is not surprising.
So the coaches have more access to them
That's our John!
Yeah. Why else would someone coach women's gymnastics?
Because they couldn't get a job as a casting agent at the Disney Channel?
Because their ice cream truck was seized by the city for not being properly licensed?
I'm always amazed that these abusers don't end up dead instead of in court.
They choose kids whose parents don't care. Most of these cases are not a one time incident. How does a parent not know that their kid is being abused over a period of months or years?
Sports Illustrated had a great article about ten years or so ago about sex abuse in youth sports. They talked to all of these perverts who had been caught and gone to prison. All of them had this almost feral sense of which kids had parents who didn't pay much attention to them and felt like they were not wanted or mattered at home. Those were the kids they would zero in on.
Every time I see some aggrieved parent on TV demanding something be done about all this, I always think "where were you when all this was going on?" If it happened once or twice sure. But over and over again for months and you don't know? Bullshit.
Or parents in denial because they want the fame
Sandusky had a "foundation" for that.
Yes he did. And a university that let him use their famous football program for bait.
Hastert, Sandusky, and OMWC disagree.
USA Gymnastics is the organization that covers everything from kids getting started at age 5 to the Olympic team. There are thousands of coaches and thousands of kids. Any organization that has that many kids will have some incidents. Little League surely has it's own problems. Pedos are going to go where the kids are. Why these incidents went through USA Gymnastics instead of the police is a mystery. If it were my kid I'd go to the cops first, and if I didn't get satisfaction there, I'd go to USA Gymnastics.
maybe if Trump actually eats a live kitten at a rally or something.
I'd say this is more likely something Heilery would do.

Hitlery eating a strange pussy? (Huma feints)
Love Big Brother, America; love him.
Yet it's not as if nothing can be done. These frustrated Americans may not fully realize it, under the influence of decades worth of sermons about government's ultimate incompetence and venality. But there's a strong case for more government ? not less ? as the most promising way to improve the nation's standard of living.
Last month, four academics ? Jeff Madrick from the Century Foundation, Jon Bakija of Williams College, Lane Kenworthy of the University of California, San Diego, and Peter Lindert of the University of California, Davis ? published a manual of sorts. It is titled "How Big Should Our Government Be?" (University of California Press).
"A national instinct that small government is always better than large government is grounded not in facts but rather in ideology and politics," they write. The evidence throughout the history of modern capitalism "shows that more government can lead to greater security, enhanced opportunity and a fairer sharing of national wealth."
The article then proceeds to use argument by assertion, appeals to authority (Europe does it!) and a crypto-religious priori faith in the effectiveness and benevolence of government to prove the need for more government.
The government must have designed your link.
try this
You mean it doesn't work and he spent most of someone else's money on it?
"a fairer sharing of national wealth."
From each according to his abilities...
I think the actual story shows that the Feds do an excellent job monitoring retards on Facebook.
Mostly 'cause it takes one to know one.
"Plotting to recruit"?
Is that like conspiracy to commit a conspiracy?
Fekkin tags- should be:
a priori faith in the effectiveness and benevolence of government to prove the need for more government.
Do you people ever tire of only having one idea?
Do you?
He has no idea.
Do you tire of never having ANY ideas? I mean besides the delusion that communism will work this time. I mean new ideas, ones that actually required some thought?
At least communism was tried in actual countries. It even had a suicide cult. All you guys can muster is a book club with one book. You think it's so impressive that libertarianism hasn't ever gone wrong and ended up in genocide, well that's because it's so fucking stupid that you can't even get it to start. Maybe because it immediately self-contradicts.
Leaving other people alone is going to result in genocide?
I need your newsletter asap.
Well, at least it's working out well in Venezuela. Give Tony that.
At least communism was tried in actual countries.
Tried
Tony fails to not recognize that statement as a self unaware real life tried and true condemnation of communism, does not pass go, does not collect $200. Straight back to retard school for Tony.

C'mon, we all know it wasn't 'real' communism, right?
It was real when things were good. When the part that always comes, the part where they run out of other's people's money, it magically becomes not real communism, and all the left shut the fuck up about it, which is a welcome thing.
For its first hundred years or so, our USA was pretty damned close to much of what many of us think libertarianism is. And it only became the most successful country in the history of the earth.
Other places that are very free-market oriented, such as Hong Kong, have become tremendous economic engines.
Don't straw man libertarian thought by saying there's never been a true 'libertarian' country -- there's never been any country that is 100% true to a certain philosophy.
We can say this, though -- the countries that lean towards libertarianism tend to be far more successful than the countries that lean towards Marxism.
I remember this asshole in one of my economics classes who preached the virtues of communism. That was of course until my Cuban professor ripped him into shreds about his ignorance.

Which wouldn't even be up for debate were it not for sophists like Tony.
"For its first hundred years or so, our USA was pretty damned close to much of what many of us think libertarianism is."
Come on, we all know that isn't true. I agree with the main premise that countries that lean libertarian have been more successful, particularly compared to communist countries, but we don't have to whitewash the past to make it fit that narrative better.
Oh right. There were slaves in a time period where basically the whole globe had slavery. This is uniquely egregious for America because ermm.... uh.....white privilege? Yeah that's the ticket.
I'm not sure where I said anything about uniquely egregious. I said that the US was not very close to libertopia in its first 100 years. That's true even if you remove slavery, and it's definitely true with it. I'm not sure how the global prevalence of slavery is relevant. If every country in the world became communist, would the least odious communist regime suddenly become a libertarian paradise?
For its first hundred years or so, our USA was pretty damned close to much of what many of us think libertarianism is.
lol, except for the slavery, of course. Oh and all the regulations and restrictions, etc.
No, it was not so free or libertarian. Not really.
It was more free for most people, because the government did not yet have the capacity to fuck with the lives of all inhabitants on a nano scale. Even in the 70s, if you lived far enough from a major metropolitan hub, you could do pretty much whatever you wanted, short of murdering people and robbing banks, and never have a worry in the world about government fucking with you.
It was probably easier for a lot of people to live while avoiding the government, but in many cases to do that you'd have to limit your options. Moving west (which, overall, required killing or removing Indians from land), or staying on a farm and minding your business, you could probably live unimpeded for the most part. But people were often not free to step outside those bounds. The bill of rights didn't apply to states and localities at that points, so the rights recognized by them were routinely impeded and fucked with by those levels of government. Women's rights were severely limited compared to men, and obviously the same was true to an even greater extent for black people compared to white people (also, gays, etc.). And those laws also restricted association for anyone who wanted to do so with those groups. The country in its first century was on a collision course towards civil war over slavery, with a lot of heated moments along the way. It does get overdemonized by the left a lot, but it's also (often inaccurately) romanticized a lot by conservatives and libertarians.
Putting aside the effects of early government meddling, I think there is absolutely no doubt that this country was founded on libertarian principles (e.g. classical liberalism). This was, after all, the whole point.
If not for Hamilton and the early federalists, the "American Experiment" may have had a chance to actually succeed. I believe that the country prospered in the first 100 years in spite of the encroachment of government on these principles, not because of it.
The founders were acutely aware of the hazards of this and foretold what would happen...
"...for tho' we may obtain, & I believe shall obtain, a majority in the legislature of the United States, attached to the preservation of the Federal constitution according to it's obvious principles, & those on which it was known to be received; attached equally to the preservation to the states of those rights unquestionably remaining with them; friends to the freedom of religion, freedom of the press, trial by jury & to economical government; opposed to standing armies, paper [monetary] systems, war, & all connection, other than commerce, with any foreign nation; in short, a majority firm in all those principles which we have espoused and the federalists have opposed uniformly;
still, should the whole body of New England continue in opposition to these principles of government, either knowingly or through delusion, our government will be a very uneasy one. It can never be harmonious & solid, while so respectable a portion of it's citizens support principles which go directly to a change of the federal constitution, to sink the state governments, consolidate them into one, and to monarchize that.
Our country is too large to have all its affairs directed by a single government. Public servants at such a distance, & from under the eye of their constituents, must, from the circumstance of distance, be unable to administer & overlook all the details necessary for the good government of the citizens, and the same circumstance, by rendering detection impossible to their constituents, will invite the public agents to corruption, plunder & waste.
And I do verily believe, that if the principle were to prevail, of a common law being in force in the U S, (which principle possesses the general government at once of all the powers of the state governments, and reduces us to a single consolidated government,) it would become the most corrupt government on the earth.
You have seen the practises by which the public servants have been able to cover their conduct, or, where that could not be done, delusions by which they have varnished it for the eye of their constituents. What an augmentation of the field for jobbing, speculating, plundering, office-building & office-hunting would be produced by an assumption of all the state powers into the hands of the general government.
The true theory of our constitution is surely the wisest & best, that the states are independent as to everything within themselves, & united as to everything respecting foreign nations. Let the general government be reduced to foreign concerns only, and let our affairs be disentangled from those of all other nations, except as to commerce, which the merchants will manage the better, the more they are left free to manage for themselves, and our general government may be reduced to a very simple organization, & a very unexpensive one; a few plain duties to be performed by a few servants...."

All of you older people will go on and on in the free range kids threads about this.
Btw, should we tell Tony he has the wrong talking point? Anytime anything goes wrong it's "austerity". Also, he apparently forgot about the gilded age, when the evil libertarian robber barons worked all the orphans to death in factories until Upton Sinclair saved the day and told the government to intervene so they'd stop making cakes and sausages out of small children.
I do not have the time, nor the crayons necessary to explain this to you.
I want to know what he thinks the one book is.
The one he can read, "Dick and Jane."
No, I tire of seeing people like you advocating policies that run countries like Venezuela into the ground. I tire of seeing wars, oppression, slavery and starvation because some dipshit with a gun decided they're a Top Man and know how to fix things and a bunch of idiots like you believe him. I tire of people like you insisting that the when government fails it just needs more money so it can go fail harder.
Well said.

"We are not screwing around, Philly," Guss' statement reads. "The city strongly recommends that residents opt for recreational options that are safer, more sanitary and less likely to deplete the resources firefighters need in an emergency."
"Fuck you, Guss," Philly responded. "We're doing it anyway."
Seems there is an easy solution, which is to warn people that firefighters will not be sent to help them if they do this, and then not send help. They might do stupid shit, but only once.

I watched as the Brian Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a white bulldozer! Its rider held blueprints, and he was given a transit, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on abusing eminent domain.
When the Brian Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a fiery orange one. Its rider was given power to make people cover themselves in hideous spray tans. To him was given a large aerosol can.
and so on...
We have seen this gag before...there was one of these in England a few years back. It even looks like the same one.

INCONCEIVABLE
Scott MacConnell cherishes the memory of his years at Amherst College, where he discovered his future m?tier as a theatrical designer. But protests on campus over cultural and racial sensitivities last year soured his feelings.
Now Mr. MacConnell, who graduated in 1960, is expressing his discontent through his wallet. In June, he cut the college out of his will.
"As an alumnus of the college, I feel that I have been lied to, patronized and basically dismissed as an old, white bigot who is insensitive to the needs and feelings of the current college community," Mr. MacConnell, 77, wrote in a letter to the college's alumni fund in December, when he first warned that he was reducing his support to the college to a token five dollars.
A backlash from alumni is an unexpected aftershock of the campus disruptions of the last school year. Although fund-raisers are still gauging the extent of the effect on philanthropy, some colleges ? particularly small, elite liberal arts institutions ? have reported a decline in donations, accompanied by a laundry list of complaints.
"Unexpected"? More like "inevitable".

Well, you can't spend decades trying to get a more diverse student body and then be surprised when this newly diverse group doesn't think even remotely like the privileged white guys you used to admit. Nor can you be very surprised when those same privileged white guys decide not to support your newly diverse campus because guess what, these kids don't think the way privileged white guys do. Really, these Universities are the victims of their own success and should be proud that some rich white dudes are disgusted, no matter whether it hurts their already very full pocketbooks or not.
To which the "rich white dude" should reply:
"Thank you for proving my point."
Oh, I'm sure those lesbian dance majors and racial grievance students will be donating a ton of money to the school in the near future.
These people are dumb as fuck. Without the alumni donations their fancy facilities wouldn't exist along with tuition being much higher. Without the endowments, these assholes couldn't have their Grievance Studies majors.
That's why we must make college free and put government in complete charge of it. Don't worry, nothing could possibly go wrong.
The old white dude is a theater major FFS.

Can Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Nominee, Swing the Election?
Sort of a good showing of libertarians in the comments. Surprising to see on the nytimes.
Nope. Next question.
One thing I have noticed is that the more of a lead Hillary gets, the more Johnson/Stein seems to have an effect. The more Trump gets a lead (rare, though has occured), the more Johson/Stein seems to have an effect. By effect, I mean an advantage for the leader. Not sure what to make of that.
I am a current student at Amherst. I can see where you're coming from - it may seem like the desire to learn in a safe environment drowns out facing challenging ideas and a so called "liberal tradition." However, the students who enjoyed this luxury on Amherst's campus in the past, and who still do today, are arguably the white male students. Amherst has done an incredible job of moving away from the white/male dominated student body norm by diversifying and offering its education to a much more well rounded student body. What the students today are trying to accomplish is to obtain that same level of safety and acceptance in our learning and living environment that the white male students already possess. We are not backing down from challenging ideas, we are introducing them to the white male students and alumni - which is easy to see due to the alumni reactions outlined in this article. It is the white male student body that has had the privilege of picking and choosing what ideas they are exposed to, and now we are trying to expose the hard ones. Racism, sexism, sexual assault issues, sexuality and gender discrimination. The current students want to be able to enjoy their access to one of the best liberal arts schools in the country as much as the white male students do and as much as the white male alumni have. By retracting their donations white male alumni are simply expressing their disagreement and non-support of this desire, which is a basic right.
Man do these peopled discriminate with the best of them with their asinine thoughts.
My ideas are challenging, and you should be introduced to them.
Your ideas are outdated and oppressive. I need not consider them.

He is saying the students of Amherst have a right to the old white men's money. To put it in blunt terms, the guy is saying; "Gimmme".
It's kind of like in Atlas Shrugged when Hank Rearden's brother asked him for a donation to a charity but requested that he didn't put his name on the check because he was viewed as being a heartless businessman.

Puppycide in Kansas City
Complete with the classic "The police did nothing wrong" followed by "the police will investigate the incident".
Listen, it was within department policy to kill the dog. Naturally department policies, officer training, and protocol all rank higher than any actual law mere mortals must abide by.
"Please know most officers are dog owners and it is unfortunate when these incidents occur. Unfortunately, if officers fear being attacked b y a dog they defend themselves from personal injury," said Capt. Stacey Graves,
What a bunch of giant pussies. Unless you're on your back with a dog chewing your face or throat A DOG BITE WILL NOT KILL YOU! It will hurt, and you may need stitches and medical attentionand shots and antibiotics, but dogs rarely kill people.
Well that's not necessarily true. Dogs tend to deliver a high amount of nasty microbes with their bite, ranging from a rash to flesh eating bacteria that will cause you to lose a leg. The dogs themselves are immune to most of what's in there. That said, non-cop humans seem to be able to tolerate the faint heartbeat of a puppy within fifty yards, at least enough to not kill them at every opportunity. So the cops have no excuse to be such murdering pussies.
Another comment from the Times Article about Amherst.
am an Asian lesbian professor of the humanities, and am increasingly weary of my profession because of the ludicrous touchiness and ignorance of many students and faculty. A colleague teaching an LGBT film class was hauled up because two students complained he had failed to issue a "trigger warning" before showing Boys Don't Cry. I have taught Coetzee's Disgrace (which I consider a masterpiece) for several years but am now thinking of dropping it because I perceive several students gearing up to declare that they feel offended. More important, because of the lack of an adequate core curriculum, English majors and even MAs graduate without ever having read a Victorian novel or a Romantic poem. One has to begin every class, whatever its theme, with a potted history lesson, because one cannot take for granted that students know when the World Wars or the American civil war occurred, or when Socrates lived or Shakespeare wrote. But all of them know the laundry list of ideas that should offend them. And all they can really write about is their own limited lives. As one colleague of mine says, the educational system is highly successful - it set out to inculcate self-esteem and it has done so.
"one cannot take for granted that students know when the World Wars or the American civil war occurred, or when Socrates lived or Shakespeare wrote"
