Democratic Convention Features String of Attacks on Gun Violence, Offers No Relevant Solution
Just a string of policies that would waste time and money, create a pointless new class of contraband, and rob many innocents of self-defense.
The Democratic National Convention this evening presented a string of speakers, the vast majority connected personally to tragic gun murders, to sell Hillary Clinton as the only presidential candidate who will, as was often repeated, stand up to the gun lobby and help keep American families safe.

The only real hint of a policy by which the president of the United States is supposed to do this was "keeping guns out of the wrong hands." The presentations featured most of the checklist of ways that "more gun laws" advocates obfuscate the good that more gun laws are supposed to do, beginning with director Lee Daniels conflating the much larger problem of gun suicides with the far smaller one of gun murders as "gun violence" by mentioning the 33,000 American yearly victims of "gun violence."
He calls for "action" and "action now" but doesn't say much about what sort of action.
Daniels was followed by Christine Leinonen, whose son Christopher was murdered by Omar Mateen at the Pulse Nightclub massacre in Orlando in June, using a gun obtained after passing a background check.
She told touching tales about her dead son, including the detail that he was a big Clinton supporter. She mentions that she was a former Michigan state trooper and that when she gave birth, her service weapon was put away in a safe, a "common sense gun policy" that, I guess, might have made someone safer, if we presume someone lurking in the hospital would have stolen it and harmed someone with it.
She analogizes that incident with imagined "common sense gun policies" that might have saved her son's life. But since the closest thing to a specific meaningful policy anyone mentioned all night was background checks to keep guns out of the wrong hands, and Mateen passed one, the relevance of politics or Clinton or the DNC to Leinonen's painful story aren't clear.
Leinonen also allude to a possible policy of banning classes of semi-automatic rifles, the so-called "assault weapon" ban, by mentioning the speed with which a semi-automatic gun can fire bullets. That's a quality of pretty much all semi-automatic weapons, so it could be she's implicitly calling for the ban and removal from society of something peacefully owned by many millions of Americans and connected to no more than 2 percent of America's gun homicide problem.
That is, she might be calling for what will often have to be violent police state action aimed at the ownership of almost universally harmless contraband, something America has had some bad experience with in regards to alcohol and guns, and which no experience indicates will do much to actually get the guns.
Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, hero of the 15 hour stand in Congress to encourage them to pass gun laws, talked of the tragedy of the Newtown school shooting and the unimaginable pain of the parents' loss. He is outraged that Congress has since then done "absolutely nothing to prevent the next massacre." Given that Newtown's killer Adam Lanza stole a weapon from a legal owner, it is unclear what law Congress might pass that would supposedly have prevented the crime in question.
Murphy alludes to something that bothers many folk about the Omar Mateen situation: that he was suspected of possible terror connections by the FBI and still able to legally buy a gun, and calls for the revocation of a constitutional right associated with the right to defend your own life, on the basis of unadjudicated suspicion.
Murphy repeats a belief that one of the main laws that Clinton advocates, a national imposition of universal background checks on all gun purchases, would "make the country safer" though they would have had no effect on nearly all the major American gun tragedies.
Such laws would also do far more to keep people in prohibited categories from defending themselves than they would make any American safer. (Except perhaps ones trying to harm or rob the innocent Americans who may have been in jail, in an institution, or known to use illegal drugs, or if Murphy has his way suspected of skulduggery for any reason by the Feds, and thus robbed of the right to own a gun.)
Erica Smegielski, whose mother died at Sandy Hook, repeats the unsupported belief that electing Clinton will somehow make sure no other daughter has to feel her pain. Former Philly police commissioner Charles Ramsey tries to reel in more traditional law and order types raising the specter of police officers killed by criminals, and openly states an often unstated premise of Clinton-style attitudes toward guns: that the police ought to by right have weapons that you are not allowed to have. Might not be the best message in an American awash in images of cops killing citizens in traffic stops.
Felicia Sanders and Polly Sheppard, survivors of Dylann Roof's murders in a Charleston church, alluded to the first incident mentioned tonight in which it is likely that an existing background check system that actually worked as it was supposed to might have prevented Roof from legally getting his gun, which should remind us that even having existing laws against something by no means makes sure that thing won't happen.
Mark Kelly, the husband of Rep. Gabby Giffords, wounded by a shooter years ago, alluded to his high-tech background in the military and with NASA to suggest that a nation with such technical achievements should have no problem curbing gun violence with the proper will, an argument that misses the particular kind of problem gun violence is, not one amenable to technical solutions.
Kelly suggests that Hillary will do what's right for our country and our communities to lessen gun violence, yet of course does not allude to the war on drugs that helps motivate so much gun violence. The drug war provides a grip on the problem of gun violence far more direct than Hillary's vague and old proposals, yet of course aiming at that is not something Clinton will do; it limits state power and management of our lives, and doesn't expand it.
It was a predictable show when it comes to gun violence tonight at the DNC: a whole lot of tugging on emotions, leaning on real world tragedies to implicitly support policies that would have done nothing to prevent those tragedies, and would if instituted waste a lot of time and money, create a pointless new class of contraband in a country already riven by too much cop-citizen conflict, and rob many innocents of the innocent use of means of self-defense.
All of that aimed at a problem that is, far from a growing crisis, one that has shrunk nearly by half in the past 23 or so years.

It's like they want to hand Trump the Presidential election.
Perhaps, but he's doing his best to not accept it

Gene Sperling says all high priests agree, Trumponomics would anger the Gods.
She mentions that she was a former Michigan state trooper and that when she gave birth, her service weapon was put away in a safe, a "common sense gun policy" that, I guess, might have made someone safer, if we presume someone lurking in the hospital would have stolen it and harmed someone with it.
JUST BECAUSE IT HASN'T HAPPENED YET DOESN'T MEAN IT WON'T.
The common sense gun policy would have been to take away her service weapon and give it to somebody who's not a cop.
Her baby's not a cop. Why do you hate childrenz and want to give them cop guns?
To repeat a comment from a couple days back (which i think bears repeating again because it makes the DNC "Talking Points" of the last few days so clear for *what they're NOT talking about*)
....
basically - the theme of their politics this year is *EVERYONE IS A VICTIM*
all racism, sexism, and GUN-ISM... and how Democrat politicians? Well, even if they have no real ideas about how to "fix" these things...well, they *sure feel your fucking pain* don't they?
But please, let's don't talk education (except for how "free" we'll make it!) or healthcare or war or people in prison or drug laws or taxes or .... well, just about ANYTHING that politicians can actually influence.
Everything's about hitting emotional issues which they have no actual ability to do anything about
The most frustrating part about this election is the complete lack of focus on issues and solutions. Not that previous elections were great on this front, but it's significantly worse this time around.
I get what you mean. I dislike the term "solutions" because many of the problems we face are largely "the foreseeable consequences of yesterday's (the last guy's) solutions"
e.g. Obamacare, the Middle East shitshow, our interest-rate juiced economy, the craptastic performance of education systems,etc....
i pray for a day when someone who says, "I just want to undo the shitty stuff from the politicians who came before"... and isn't accused of "lacking ideas" or being an "extremist"
What are your policy suggestions for undoing the messes made in the Middle East?
I actually posted a link to a discussion on middle east issues the other day which i think answers that question well.
Its w/ Col. Andrew Bacevich, a former Army officer who has been favorably reviewed here @ Reason before
His entire talk is worth listening to. But a short summary of his 'undoing the problem' argument (which echoes my own thinking) - that the US needs to force the major powers of the ME into a "Sit Down"
(a la the 5 Families in the Godfather I)
Get the Saudis, Iranians, Turks, Egyptians, etc to begin talking, with the premise that "We're Leaving" one way or the other, and we can either leave and let them descend into perpetual conflict, or they can establish some terms of cooperation and learn to police their own backyard.
I don't think it would work at all. but i think it would be a better idea to force the ball back into their 'court' and point out that we're ending the "Carter Doctrine" - we don't care what happens to them anymore (maybe aside from nuclear attacks).
We'll keep the 5th fleet in the gulf, but otherwise, they can go ahead the war themselves to death for all we care.
it might (at most) scare them into some kind of "quasi-formal" proceedings which would enable partition of Iraq & Syria.
that's a clumsy paraphrase. listen to the podcast.
Interesting. Thanks. I'll check it out.
*2 footnotes:
1 - the prior review of bacevitch liked his "diagnosis" of the problem w/ american military, but thought his "solution" of conscription was awful (i think so too.)'
i think at the time that book was written (2010-2012) the idea of renewing conscription was a popular topic in politics and among military analysts (tom ricks had a boner for it) and he just used it as an 'easy out', something to cap the book off with which he knew would be taken favorably by the establishment types who read books like that.
2 - i think the conclusion above is 'half me', half- bacevitch. he doesn't go quite so far. but frankly i don't think he has good answers either. The above scenario would produce some perverse results = the first thing everyone would agree on would probably be "lets kill all the kurds"
Bacevich is a pretty sharp analyst, but not exactly a visionary who really sees a new paradigm for global security or anything. He lost his job in the military in Gulf I when Camp Doha in Kuwait blew up due to some accident .... the army wanted to blame someone. He got blamed. But i think he's made a decent military analyst/historian since then.
I served in the Army at the tail end of the draft. Anybody who advocates for a Peacetime Draft is daft. While the obvious advantages societally of a draft- making manchildren grow up under the "tender" ministrations of hard nosed NCOs is attractive- the resulting low quality of peacetime draftees' motivation is not worth the effort of drafting the snowflakes. Or inflicting them onto a professionalized Army. Unless you goal is to get lots of half trained troops killed (see WWII) I oppose a draft.
Regarding Obamacare, I guess when your party's solution is to create a giant government clusterfuck, you want to not call any attention to it for a few years until people start considering it part of the difficult, nigh-impossible to change status quo.
That's sort of the method isn't it? Let the problem become so big that is too politically-difficult to solve
(because the political costs of trying to fix it and "failing" means you've just relieved the people who created the problem from blame)
It was my prediction when the thing first passed that it was never meant to succeed. It was meant to create dependents who were reliant on it and break the system so badly that the proggies could swoop in from the wings and save us all with full nationalization. Looks like that prediction is mostly bearing out. They're already rumbling about its failures to meet expectations and proposing the "public option", which would be perpetually bailed out of its own fiscal insolvency with tax dollars. Too many people would have become reliant on it at that point for the Republicans to even try to touch the damned thing.
Creeping socialism, pure and simple. It grows over everything, rots it from the inside and kills its host eventually.
The problem is that they failed to create a large enough dependent class. The number of people who have benefited from the PPACA, versus the status quo that immediately preceded it, is a lot lower than the number of people who haven't, and more specifically the number of people who have been materially harmed by the system it created.
I won't say that it has categorically ruled out the eventually nationalization of the healthcare industry, because I'll never bet against Fabian socialism advancing ever forward. However, I would counsel that they oversold on this one and have engendered a lot of ill will. I know people who have seen their premiums increase over the last few years not just by double-digit percentages but by whole factors. I know people whose medication costs went from trivial to crushing. Some adaptations since then have blunted some of those increases in price, usually by reducing the quality of service/product. But people's memories aren't quite so short that they've completely forgotten what they had less than a decade ago. And as for the people too young to be paying their own bills before PPACA, many of them are coming upon the new age of adulthood (26) and learning that they have to pay a tax for the sin of existing.
All of this weighs against the left being given more power to fuck up healthcare further.
Yeah, my healthcare plan just reset its fiscal year, and holy shit, my medication co-pays have gone through the roof. Most of them doubled. I can't wait to see what my doctor visit co-pays look like now.
And Obama claimed it was TEAM RED that was fomenting hate and division. Project much?
Just a string of policies that would waste time and money, create a pointless new class of contraband, and rob many innocents of self-defense.
Feature. Not bug.
Do the Democrats know something we don't?
They seem to think that they can get votes from making a big push against the 2nd Amendment.
This is a change from their usual approach - not substantively but from the standpoint of campaign strategy.
What if they (Team Blue) really don't want The Wicked Witch of the Midwest to win. What if they want The Don to win so that when all of Pres. Lightbringer's shit comes crashing down, they can blame the pres. that happens to have an 'R' next to his name? What if they are setting up Hitlery's run in 2020 to be a landslide against an unpopular Team Red pres.? What if they are playing the long game? Etc, etc.
You mean Warren's run in 2020.
Of course.
They seem to think that they can get votes from making a big push against the 2nd Amendment.
I'm getting the feeling that they're all listening to each other tell each other that gun owners are really a small and shrinking minority and 90% of everybody in the U.S. wants more gun control. They think if they believe it hard enough, it will be so.
"They think if they believe it hard enough, it will be so."
This pretty much sums up the entire progtard mind-set.
Pass a law banning all guns from existence.
Obviously.
It's just too bad that none of our politicians has the backbone to get it done.
I hope Hillary gets elected, and that she does it unilaterally.
over 300 million guns in US civilian hands and many more in the US military,Federal, state, and local law enforcement, and private security. it's not rational to think that most of those civilian guns could be "bought back",confiscated,or surrendered. that doesn't even take into account homemade guns. A guy in Australia was recently caught after he had made 100s of MAC-10/11 machine guns complete with suppressors (really good ones,precision-made),another case was a shop making Sterling machine guns. Making a M3 "grease gun" or a Sten machine gun is pretty simple, with the tools available today at any Harbor Freight store.
FEDGOV is "missing" several thousand of their guns, some being full-auto machine guns. that does not include US military arms losses. TSA alone is missing 100s of their guns. Then state and local law enforcement have guns stolen from their vehicles frequently. Former Orlando POLICE CHIEF Val Demings had her service handgun stolen from her unmarked SUV in 2009,and years later,it still hasn't been recovered. Orlando Orange County Sheriffs Office (OCSO) has "lost" 2 AR-15 kits, and had 4 machine guns stolen from vehicles.
Post-9-11,several armed Federal employees have LEFT their loaded handguns on commercial air flights and deplaned, the guns being discovered by other passengers. One guy in Alabama stole rifles (real assault rifles,select-fire) and grenades from Anniston Army Depot.
guns will ALWAYS be available to those who really want them.
If that's what you want, then you need to enact and ratify an AMENDMENT to the Constitution. Lotsa luck in getting that done.
Gun ownership and carriage is a "core concept" of America.
Perhaps you should move to some other country that has the strict "gun control" you desire. Mexico is close by.
Is gun suicide a problem? Don't libertarians support the right of an individual to end their life?
No.
Yes.
Yeah, suicide is a problem, but it's a different problem.
If the Democrats want to tell us that the solution to suicide is throwing law abiding citizens in jail for exercising their Second Amendment rights, then they're free to make that dumb argument.
Messy suicides place a burden on third parties.
But on the other hand people earn a living cleaning them up.
Interesting twist on the "broken windows" formula for employment.
Its even better that "broken windows" as its not just creating clean-up jobs, its also freeing up the suicide's job for a new worker!
And waste usable organs.
I think you can support the right of people to end their lives while still acknowledging that suicide is a bad thing.
It's subjective.
Suicide is a problem for the person that commits it, and while it might make other people sad that's not a terribly good reason to make suicide illegal again. And yeah, suicide was illegal so if you failed to off yourself hooray you're in jail now. Or worse, a mental institution. At least this was true in Britain, I'm not sure if it's ever been technically illegal here in the U.S.
Incidentally, racist neo-Nazi propaganda is also a problem, but I support free speech and the First Amendment anyway.
I support the Fourth Amendment and the Fifth Amendment--even though that means rapists sometimes get off scott free.
That isn't to say that neo-Nazis and rapists aren't problems. It just means that violating people's First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendment rights isn't an appropriate solution to those problems.
Something to keep in mind is that suicide rates per capita have the U.S. as #50 in the world. With numbers 1- 49 include countries with strict gun control laws like France and Japan. If someone really wants to kill themselves, there are plenty of ways to do it without using a gun.
Japan even has a special forest to go to in order to kill yourself. Pretty bizarre stuff.
I have a strange admiration for Japan's cultural obsession with suicide. "Be perfect, or kill yourself". OH WHAT YOU'RE NOT PERFECT?!?! RITUAL DISEMBOWELMENT TIME!
suicide is NOT a "gun violence" problem. it's a voluntary CHOICE,an act done to one's own self. Suicides are also means-independent;if one method is not available,a suicidal person is not going to stop, they'll try some other way.
(and maybe take some other people along with them, like happened to a girl I used to know . Her friend decided to commit suicide by driving her car into a tree at speed while my friend was the passenger. The driver died, her suicide a success,my friend was badly injured.)
this "33,000" figure is dishonest (and intentionally so); 2/3's of them are suicides. they DO NOT COUNT towards "gun violence".
True they are bad but the pubs are worse - they want to train more kids in tactical snipery who will later want to show off their skillz for you. OK now practice your shocked face:
I wish I could place a bet on Hillary stepping down some time between after tomorrow night and election day elevating Tim Kaine to the top of the ticket.
Just out of curiosity what makes you think that's even a remote possibility?
Putin's been sharing some more DNC intercepts, obviously.
Not likely, I think she'll stick it out no matter what's released and even if the consequences mean her going down in flames. Stranger things have happened though.
To be fair, I was kidding.
If I was accurate, it was totally unintentional.
Hillary Clinton could accidentally nuke Finland and she still wouldn't step aside. She'd blame it on the big red button pushing itself. And anyway, it's not important, Finland is gone at this point.
I'm begining to think Hillary has a chance at winning a patent infringement suit against Teflon.
Russia can release footage of her personally shooting Vince Foster, and the Hillary supporters will just call it old news.
^ This, then they'll find some way to tenuously connect it to trump.
Is he from Northern Virginia? You can call him NOVA Kaine.
You can call him NOVA Kaine. I will simply narrow my gaze. At you.
This election is going to hinge on places like Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, . . . and they ain't all sold on gun control.
The Democratic Party is dominated by the interests of California, Massachusetts, and New York City--and it shows.
The Democratic Party is genuinely, truly, honestly, hostile to the interests of swing voters in middle America.
They deserve to lose.
I still can't believe the Republicans nominated the one guy that wouldn't be mopping the floor with Hillary already.
The inability of Cruzbots and some libertarians to grasp how viscerally unlikable Cruz is to normals continues to amaze me.
Compared to Trump, like really?!
Yeah, I think Cruz would've had a terrible time of it. A religious freak like Cruz might do well enough during the nomination process but I think the country is beyond the point where they'd vote a guy like that in during the general.
Rubio probably could've wiped the floor though.
Rubio would be a great candidate in the general. He would've walked to the nomination if the GOP smartset hadn't convinced to support amnesty and let Schumer take the lead. Then again, someone who could be convinced of that doesn't deserve much.
Yeah, Cruz being a Mormon definitely stopped him from getting the nomination. Oh wait...what? Whoops, sorry! Wrong election!
It's abundantly clear that Cruz's beliefs in government are what sank his ship within the RNC.
yes, because the Republican Party has also moved AWAY from the Constitution.
They are becoming more and more like the DemocRATs.
Compared to Hillary?!
Yes.
I can see many people preferring both to Cruz.
He's more sincere and honest than both - but in a completely creepy and self-obsessed way. He's not their "type" at all.
Most politicians are actually just vacuous, hollow people at their core. He's not. he's dreary, self-obsessed, ideological.
Both hillary and trump lie like breathing. it comes as second nature to them. they don't care what the truth is, they just want to tell you what you want to hear. Cruz wants to make you believe what he believes.
His attitude in the debates was terrible. he was so concerned about "winning" that he seemed to forget that the audience wasn't "keeping score" - they were trying to decide "whom to like".
He doesn't even know how to try and be likeable, he just wants to be "right".
It rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Its the kind of attitude which no one very few people in the business world can have, but maybe is something that works for lawyers. Which is why no one likes lawyers. and why many people don't like Cruz.
This^^^ Except I'm not so sure he's sincere. Evangelicals who don't know their obviously pedo youth pastor is a pedo were creeped out by Cruz. It's impressive, really.
That's a hilariously accurate depiction of his character.
He's *not* a creepy pedo.... but he gives an impression that *feels just like one*; just something icky and possibly predatory. I knew a guy like that at my first company. He was a sales guy who scared people despite his always overly friendly attitude. Something just *felt wrong*
A few years later he stabbed someone at a coke-binge party and went to jail. I never heard about it until like 5 years later, when he came *back* and was telling me how everything was cool now because he found jesus.
just something icky and possibly predatory
His fucked up face ain't helping on that front.
Somehow neither of us even mentioned how everybody who knows him hates his guts. Maybe we don't trust people with fucked up faces for a reason.
Trump is already leading in most of those places. This will seal it.

Print out all your musings, "age" the paper so it looks like it was typed out in the 1930s, forge James Joyce's signature, publish the result as "a long-lost Joyce novel."
I'm just thinking out loud here.
LOL
Remember the Hitler Diaries?
I don't remember every last detail, but if I recall, a team of expert historians figured out the forgery based on the entry where he said "remind Goebbels to play 'Don't Stop Believing' more often in propaganda broadcasts."
Though Hitler was certainly capable of such an atrocity.
"Dooooon't stop belieeeeeeeving, hold on to that feeeeeeling..."
As a Richmond native I've had to endure Tim Kaine in the news for a long time, and his is one of the most baffling political careers around. An excruciatingly dull, odd man with zero charisma and little in the way of notable accomplishments rises from the horrifyingly corrupt and useless Richmond City Council to LG to gov to US senator to VP nominee. Bizarre. He's like a political version of Sweetchuck from Police Academy, just this weird, timid, awkward guy.
Don't forget he was head of the DNC. He knows some shit.
"So he wont' get in the way?"
"He gets out of the way before there IS a way"
Based on his nomination as VP, I'd say he's ingratiated himself to people in power at the right times, sort of like LBJ.
He also married into a prominent family in VA politics. His father in law is former governor Linwood Holton.
It was pretty difficult to find someone even less qualified than Herself, I guess. There's no way they could have put someone better on the ticket as She would then be in that person's shadow.
Then they must have scraped Kaine off the bottom of a particularly mediocre barrel.
"Hillary Clinton as the only presidential candidate who will, as was often repeated, stand up to the gun lobby and help keep American families safe. "
Um, isn't her family protected by armed guards? Why doesn't she just utilize the local police force and wait for them to arrive if something were to happen? Why the need for security? Just use the telephone and wait minutes for a response. Could it be she believes in prevention and immediate response to a threat like most politicians who have armed security? Hmmm. Her and her family must be more important than the serfs.
The way at which folks want to prevent others from protecting themselves and their families is despicable.
This is something I always tell people that are in favor of this type of insanity.
Their usual response?
"Yeah, but they're more important so they should have extra security."
*facepalm*
The protests seem to be getting a mite testy. Looks like nightsticks are coming out.
Speaking of testy, there won't be any nut-punchy stories of police brutality, will there?
A few months ago I thought it was just Hillary who had lost her mind on gun control. Now I see it's the whole DNC. They are just hellbent on losing every last swing state.
In December, after they lose big, I bet we learn about Bill fighting this stupidity in the background and losing.
Being surprised by the unpopularity of gun control is a symptom of the leftist predilection for echo chambers.
Bill got burn in '94 and learned his lesson. His wife isn't as bright.

With 31 all-red states and 54 Senators and a massive advantage in the House just where do these idiots think they're going to get traction for gun control?
Even if She wins there's not a whole lot she can do and if she tries she risks a wave of nullifications sweeping through the country and then what does she do? Can she make states bend to her will? I don't think so.
As for individuals, she doesn't have most of the local police on her side, and I assume the military will mostly not be interested in being part of the enforcement process. So that leaves federal and state level agents and that's nowhere near enough.
Anything she tries will fail and possibly leave significant portions of the country in open, armed resistance to her. What then?
It could snowball into tax revolt, and a revolt against all manner of federal regulations and legislation. Good luck trying to get your utopia if the peons aren't going to help out.
Not to mention, that for the supporters of gun-control who tacitly or openly support sending armed agents to private residences to confiscate arms, karma can be a real bitch. If you approve of sending people from your side to *my* door then obviously I will support people from my side going to *your* door.
She doesn't really intend to do anything meaningful. These are just words she thinks will win her an election. But she's dumb and they are going to lose it.
"With 31 all-red states and 54 Senators and a massive advantage in the House just where do these idiots think they're going to get traction for gun control?"
Well, Obama signed a climate change treaty without any input from the Senate.
Also, there are executive orders and the ol' FYTW.
Exactly this, Ken. Sadly, exactly this.
I can't tell if we've already gone the way of Rome, or if we're merely teetering on the precipice of Empire.
There are over 370 "mental disorders" listed in the latest version of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.) The list includes "Tobacco Addiction Disorder" among other equally mundane and ridiculous so-called "mental illnesses."
If the DSM is the standard by which politicians wishes to remove our rights to own guns, then I'd guess 90% of the American people could probably be classified with a mental disorder of one kind or another.
BEWARE, BEWARE
Mental health is the avenue to gun control..
American Psychiatric Asso: Half of Americans are mentally ill..
After crafting by politicians and Media all will be crazy except for them..
300 million prescriptions for psychiatric drugs were written in 2009 alone..
Your children on medication for ADHD?
Single woman with children diagnosed with depression?
be careful what you ask for
Mental health as a weapon against the people is communist in origin..
Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
Deceptive Transformation: The Truth of Soviet Influence in America and Gun Control..
The idea of using mental health as a weapon against the people is communist in origin, and the social sciences, or the studying of human behavior has its roots in early twentieth century Russia when Ivan Pavlov developed his
"classical conditioning" theories. In fact, Pavlov was disturbed that Vladimir Lenin would use these conditioning methods against the people in order to get them to accept communism. Since that time the social sciences have been used as a means of maintaining control over populations and getting them to accept their own down fall. This is happening today in the United States as our universities and public schools have long ago adopted educational techniques based on the social sciences and classical conditioning methods.

Subjects like White Privilege and Multiculturalism are used to demoralize our population, create a guilt consciousness and silence usinto accepting a new agenda based on the idea that we have been unfair, and our lifestyles are oppressive, and offensive to others. This agenda dates back to the early twentieth century; however, it saw some of its most major advances in the mid 1900's after the U.N. was created in 1945. While many people today view the Democrat Party as being made mostly of communists or socialists; the sad truth is that the Republican Party is just as responsible for what we are seeing in education and culture in the United States today.
As I wrote in "Not on My Watch: Exposing the Marxist Agenda in Education," Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan, two presidents that were considered American Patriots, actually signed agreements with the Soviet Union that gave them influence over U.S. education, culture, scientific and technological research, radio, television and finally, medicine. This is according to U.S. Department of Education whistle blower, Charlotte Iserbyt. It is the area of medicine that should draw your attention because as mentioned earlier, Soviet medicine revolved around the idea of mental health, and classifying people that were opposed to communist objectives as being mentally ill. This is where the Surgeon General's claims about banning guns being a part of medicine comes from.
Slowly but surely, they will work to associate gun ownership with mental illness. From the 45 goals of the Communist Party USA
Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
(Note: Many websites are now appearing claiming this list of communist goals to be a hoax. If you read them for yourself you will see many have been accomplished and that they bear a striking resemblance to many things currently happening in the U.S. The claims that they are a hoax could be a deliberate misinformation campaign headed by the Information Regulatory Affairs office led by none other than Cass Sunstein. Just looking at the state of our society, it is clear that these goals are not a hoax.)
While the move for an Article Five Convention seems to be gaining momentum, you should take heed. There is another constitution waiting in the winds and it won't protect your rights to keep and bear arms.

If guns are so bad, why are Hillary et al protected by Men With Guns?
Turn in those Glocks, and pick up a copy of Roget's Thesaurus.
"progressives" have called for "serious discussion about guns" EVERY time a mass murder has taken place. There's been plenty of "serious discussions".
But the only "serious discussion" they accept is "give us the gun control we want".
That's why we keep having these massacres and more calls for "serious discussions".
"Progressives" reject practical, workable solutions every time. Instead, they repeatedly demand more futile gun control and retaining "gun-free zones" that have been PROVEN to not work. It's been said that doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results each time,is one definition of insanity. I do not see any new -Constitutional- gun control as having any practical effect on stopping gun violence or school massacres, without having a much greater negative effect on ordinary decent citizens. I also do not foresee any Amendment negating the Second Amendment.
Same old rubbish, funny thing though, a pig, with a new brand of lipstick is still a pig.
The anti gun types have yet to offer anything relevant.
