Hillary Clinton was made official as the Democratic presidential candidate Tuesday.
Gnashing of teeth ensued.
Along with at least a decent number of delegates walking out.
Well, it was a large number, but i don't think much decency was involved.
Hello.
Technically you're first, but that comment could go with any link.
""If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..." he said, "a real change-maker represents a real threat."
Huh? Does he mean that the change machine will make it worse? By increasing govt?
205) As soon as my son could read, he didn't want me reading to him any more. But my daughter (turns 7 next week) still loves for me read out loud, and she's starting to get into some more interesting books. Encyclopedia Brown, Beverly Cleary, etc.
You know what I notice in these older books? Kids were free. In the Encyclopedia Brown series, written mostly in the 60s and 70s, Encyclopedia and his partner Sally (both age 11) ride their bikes all over town, and take the city bus for longer trips. Beezus (age 9) walks to the community center every day for her art class, dragging her 4-year-old sister Ramona along. Peter in Tales of a Fourth-Grade Nothing runs all over his Upper East-side neighborhood. They do this without parental supervision or adults pant-shitting.
My daughter just got a new bike for her upcoming birthday. She's much faster on it than her old bike. I walked with her to the pool the other day, and she rode. She got pretty far ahead of me at one point, and a couple older ladies stopped to talk to her. Too far to hear, but I saw her pointing back at me, and then the ladies moved on. I mean, thanks for checking on my daughter, but she had on her swimsuit, and at that point was literally 500 feet from the pool entrance.
Kids in 1970: free. Kids today: imprisoned, with every adult a warden.
Encyclopedia Brown is an ass who uses logical fallacies to accuse people with insufficient evidence.
Yes, his conclusions are often far from air-tight. But when he points out to the evil-doers the contradictions in their stories, they always admit their crimes.
Anyway, I'd far rather Encyclopedia and his friends take care of Bugs Meany among themselves, rather than report him to his father, the police chief, to be handcuffed and roughed up by Idaville's finest.
Because the author didn't know what to do if the accused responded with logic and pointed out the holes in Brown's case. So they made the accused stupid despite their often elaborately planned schemes that fool everyone else.
"But when he points out to the evil-doers the contradictions in their stories, they always admit their crimes."
If it weren't for that darned kid!
I have been reading The Cat in the Hat to my daughter (going on 7 months). The kids were what, maybe 7? And the mother left them home alone for the day.
And if it hadn't been raining, they would have gone outside to play.
Yep. I noticed that, too, the first 100 times I read it. Now... oy. Just words on the page. I feel bad, but I hid "One Fish Two Fish" for a while after reading it twice a night for a month straight. The two year old is kind of coming out of that phase. The 11 month old is just going into it. Whee.
Also, seven months is the best time. They're starting to be mobile, but they aren't quick and they don't go far. The younger son, can really put on a burst crawling now, and he knows to cheese it when he hears "what are you putting in your mouth?"
You should be reading Hayek to them. What's the matter with you?
I wonder if kids today think the freedom in these stories is exaggerated for effect, like the funny animal characters, rather than accurately reflecting children' lives at the time.
The parts I found hard to believe in children's literature as a child were the existance of a stay-at-home parent or that the neighbors weren't massive twats pront to profanity and the occassional random violence.
The idea of just walking into someone else's home struck me as unrealistic.
I had a neighbor as a 7 or 8 year-old where I had a welcome anytime pass to just walk in. But I also had the old man neighbor that literally screamed at me to get off his lawn.
I had a stay at home Mom. My wife is staying at home with our daughter.
They part seems normal to me.
Congrats.
I had two working parents, so it struck me as strange.
It shouldn't take seven months to read The Cat in the Hat.
I finished it in FIVE.
I'm starting Atlas Shrugged with my oldest when he turns 3. Its going to be bitch on those nights when we have to keep him up for four hours to finish a speech, but I think we can bull through it by the time he's eight.
Im an engineer, not some fancy pants liberal artist.
Reading takes time, what with moving my lips and everything.
I loved the Encyclopedia Brown books as a kid.
My daughter is 7 as well, and she loves to have me read to her. And we're actually about to start reading Beverly Cleary's Ramona series.
When she reads to herself, her favorite thing to read right now are Shel Silverstein's books. I'm so proud of that.
+1 On the cover of the Rolling Stone........
I remember one where he accused someone for having one sideburn longer than the other implying it meant the guy was a right-handed person at a convention for lefties, and thereofre GUILTY!
It struck me as wrong at the time and even more wrong now, as the ear tends to dictate where the sideburn ends rather than the reach of my arm (as I could shave the whole head if I had the inclination)
You could say it had a positive influence, because I held people to a higher standard of evidence when making accusations of misconduct.
Ha, the sideburn one is one of the two I still remember (the other being "he pushed the down button for the elevator, so he couldn't have been in the sub-basement!")
Thanks for checking on your kids quickly becomes snitching on you,
I was a 1970s kid - once, during a blizzard, I skied to my friend's house since my mom wouldn't give me a ride in the car.
and the time I spent with my cronies out in the woods - always a source for rained-on porn magazines - or just bum around to go fishing, sledding, hiking, crabapple fights, etc We would also ride our bikes to the grocery store - three miles away with lots of traffic - and mostly just disappear for the day. I would only stop in at home for lunch or dinner.
Adults just ignored us unless we were doing something stupid and then we would get a yell from them.
We would car ski. It was like water-skiing.
Tie a rope to the hitch and aaa-way we went.
Some teenager died doing that a few days ago. Expect a crackdown
Well...it IS dangerous and stupid.
We called it skijoring.
Try a little Hardy Boys (spoiler alert: it's always the smugglers). The Hardy Boys do tons of stuff on their own, have motorcycles for crissakes, and their dad is a private detective. The bad thing though is that they respect authority, pretty much.
The older the edition the better. 😀
You forgot to mention the Raging Clues.
Sounds like an 80s Alt-wave band that never got signed.
I always thought the Remo Williams, Destroyer books would be good to read to kids: Lots of engaging violence that's not all the graphic, Chuin is great comic relief, it shows governments largely as corrupt and resorting to violence because they are so inherently dysfunctional, they are short and can be read in a couple of nights, and the first 60 of them are pretty good, so you wouldn't have to keep rereading the same story over and over again. And when the kids are old enough, you can watch the movie with them and introduce the majesty that is Fred Ward.
Wait a minute, my grandson is 4 and he is reading, doesnt like to be read to. He must have gotten an extra strong 'fuck off, I will do it myself' gene. Come to think of it...I was doing the same at that age.
Same experience here. When my kids were younger, I would place myself at "base camp" in museums, parks, etc while the kids roamed. Daughter approached and questioned, pointed back to me. I wonder what would have happened if I had not been in LOS. Someone on this site once suggested to teach the kids to point and loudly start saying things like, "I don't know you! You shouldn't be talking to me!" I was never bold enough to go that route. Now older is preaching the cause to classmates and occasionally going to the office. Plasters stickers from IJ and FIRE on his notebooks. Guess leaving my computer open to H & R and leaving Libertarian leaning publications lying around has worked.Middle child thinks we should get older a Johnson t-shirt for his birthday, to go along with the new batch of stickers for the new year. By the way, older, if you read this...hi. And, oops about the birthday gifts not surprise now!
"Encyclopedia and his partner Sally (both age 11) ride their bikes all over town"
Has the statute of limitations run out? It would make a great sequel.
Delegates supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders made a mass exodus from the convention hall in protest.
And the Free State Project takes a turn for the worst.
Mass exodus. Fucking Jew atheist.
"Let my people!"
Future first gentleman Bill Clinton spoke at the Democratic Convention last night.
Bubba's appeal is unimpeachable.
The speech reminded me why Bill was so popular back in his day, but did nothing to convince me that Hillary isn't a corrupt, power-hungry bitch.
Notably, Bill went into a lot of detail about what Hillary was up to during the 1970's and 1980's, but painted with a very broad brush post-2000.
painted with a very broad brush
These euphemisms ....
To be fair, he didn't follow Hillary's activities very much, beyond finding out when she'd be out of town.
"Notably, Bill went into a lot of detail about what Hillary was up to during the 1970's and 1980's, but painted with a very broad brush post-2000"
Has anyone discussed her SoS track record? Chris Cronut really destroyed her - no response?
Future first gentleman ...
Shouldn't Reason at least try to be objective? Psst, Elizabeth, it's not a given Hillary will win.
Objectively, this commenter can't see any stopping it.
Cytotoxic has said it's a given, thus it is so. Who would dare question his wisdom?!
False positive tests are behind the claim that there's THC in the Hugo, Colorado, water supply.
In the new documentary: Gaspland
Next up: Barack Obama.
"Your next president of the United States is likeable enough!"
Yeah but she doesn't make a tingle go up my trouser leg.
I'm not sure that the investiture of the Crown Princess is such a good time from her standpoint to bring up sexual assault, real or imagined.
Yep.
And the speakers keep mentioning "playing by the rules".
Meaning "play by the rules we set, you peasants".
Bernie and Chief Warren's speeches on Monday were great. They kept going on about "We need to reign in Wall Street. . . so vote for Hillary" and "We can't let the 1% be making all the rules that favor them . . . so vote for Hillary," and "Peace, especially in the Middle East. . . so vote for Hillary."
Man, I haven't laughed that hard in years.
"Hillary Clinton was made official as the Democratic presidential candidate Tuesday."
So she's a made woman.
Well, it's true that you can't touch her without an okay from the Boss.
What does Bruce Springsteen have to do with it?
Hilary was born to run.
Hillary is from the Badlands.
He's the true Godfather of the left.
OT: I'm trying to find a good general sports podcast with commentary a little more original than what you might get listening to the talking heads on ESPN. I've been trying Slate's "Hang up and Listen", which can be interesting but frustrating because 1) it covers a lot of sports I'm not interested in and 2) it's from Slate.
Any suggestions?
I enjoy the Tony Kornheiser podcast (sans election stuff, as he thought Cruz was an anarchist), but it is more about DC traffic than sports at times.
And he is on summer break right now.
I like the Jonah Keri Podcast, but he is Canadian. He talks about everything. Also Bill Simmons series of podcasts the ringer has a podcast for the big three.
Whaddya mean 'but he is Canadian'?!
Kornheiser can be funny and doesn't necessarily haven an 'old gatekeeper' mentality.
Personally, I like LeBatard (though he tends to get and fawn all the trendy faux-intellectuals on his show like Coates. Makes me wonder if he pays attention at all) but I don't think he has a podcast. It's an original show and funny as heck.
Correction. Keri is a MONTREALER!
What sports are you interested in?
Well, my main focus is on college football, NFL, and hockey, and I also enjoy golf. I don't at all mind hearing about other sports - in fact, I liked that the Slate podcast could talk intelligently about cycling, soccer, etc. But I'd like to be kept up-to-date on substantial news about the mainstream US sports scene, too -- I have a long commute so I'm trying to rely on podcasts for news instead of TV.
And if we can leave the progressive social signaling at the door, that would be great -- I get my politics elsewhere.
FWIW, check this out:

Paul Finebaum for cfb. Very informative, yet casual, and lighthearted. SEC heavy, but objective. Available on itunes and at espn podcast store.
Ugh no.
I think everydayshouldbesaturday (EDSBS) has a podcast, at least in season.
Although Finebaum is great right after Bama or Auburn lose.
Especially Bama.
BAMA NEVER LOSES ILL KILL YOU!!!!!
But PAAAAUUUUULLLLL THEM BOYS WERE CHEATED PAAAAAUUUUULLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!
Delegates supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders made a mass exodus from the convention hall in protest.
Cultural appropriation of that Bob Marley song.
Girls creator Lena Dunham also spoke last night...
To talk about how she lost her virginity to a voting booth?
I thought she list it when she was raped by her two year old sister.
Common misconception, you see, she did the raping. At least she can laugh about it though. Good times...
"The old ones had a lever... I miss them."
Can you lose your flower digitally?
No, but you can get your chad punched.
Come on, Eugene, have you never read a SugarFree story?
No, you have to lose it manually.
They are saving Dunham putting her whole fist in her fetid swamp pussy for Season 10 of Girls.
No one will notice, more people work on the show than watch it.
Episiarch will notice. He's its number one fan.
Haha, nice.
*pauses, suddenly frowns*
*blood-pukes over keyboard*
You're gonna get me banned from twitter.
Are you retweeting me, broh? BROH?
(I don't care if you do.)
How long you think I'd last on Twitter? Hell, even Reason booted me twice.
Not even STEVE SMITH got kicked off Twitter, broh.
Can 51% give affirmative consent for the other 49%?
That is how democracy works, yes.
Good God. The Washington Post front page this morning was nattering on about the sheer Hollywood star power at the Democratic National Convention. Is this who they had in mind?
Watching bits of the convention last night, I started to remember the conventions in the 60s and 70s when I was a kid. They looked a lot more like controlled chaos back then, and a lot less like a Carol Burnett TV special.
Future first gentleman Bill Clinton spoke at the Democratic Convention last night. "If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..." he said, "a real change-maker represents a real threat."
And this argument might make sense if that were the position Republicans were running on this year, but it's not. Their platform is that government will be awesome if Trump is in charge.
So Trump and Bill agree: Hillary is a threat!
Via Scott Greenfield, after an autistic 7 year old girl went missing, the heroic Amarillo, Texas police department took charge, leading a thorough search that unfortunately resulted in finding the girl had drowned in a river.
We'll leave off the part where they harassed the family, accused the parents of killing her while not starting the search for hours, and took the family's other kids away, where one of them was abused in a foster home.
I'm not going to read that. Thank you.
I did read it. Here is the section on the abuse :
I have said before on this site that if something like this happened to my family I would make sure there were dead bodies. I've been pooh-poohed or scolded that it would only cause more trouble. I don't think I'm especially sociopathic or a real bad-ass or anything, but I simply can't see a different result in this situation. I honestly don't understand why that isn't a more frequent outcome.
"The mom says she doesn't know who"
Is this not a matter of public record?
You're going to murder people for some bruises?
No I believe he is saying he would justly kill the kidnappers who stole his children whether or not there were ever any bruises on them
Oh look. Bureaucrats and public servants doing what's right for families and the community!
On another point, it's VERY tricky with the cops where kids with a mental disorder are concerned. I know, my sister went through it with her son and boy did she make sure the cops knew about it. Whenever a minor incident would arise and the cops found out who it was they were generally good about it though they had to go through procedural stuff.
The other day my wife was asking me about the cops who meet a mentally ill person to death. She still can't wrap her head (being a teacher) around the idea cops doing utterly despicable and evil things. I told her, if she thought for one second they're informed or educated about such people? Or that they even care?

Heroes my ass.
OW MY BALLS
Well, my blood pressure just skyrocketed.
Did Hihn escape?!
(rolls away laughing in response to aggression)
BULLY!
A real change-maker
"If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..."
What does he have against the Polish?
The only error in the clause is the suggestion that this is a platform that wins elections.
If it did, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in. Hillary would be behind bars. Trump would be broke. Both would be irrelevant.
It is demonstrably true that government is always bad and that it can certainly mess up a two-car parade. It's odd how the government never restricts itself to just two cars...
False positive tests are behind the claim that there's THC in the Hugo, Colorado, water supply.
But the city's en masse prosecution will go forward nontheless.
"If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..." he said, "a real change-maker represents a real threat."
Can someone explain WTF this means to me? Is he endorsing Donald Trump?
Trump should use that in his next speech.
Road outside Florida high school painted to read 'SCOHOL'
I remember the first time I had a slug of scohol.
It was unclear whether the fault for the painting mistake lies with the school district, the county or an independent contractor.
Fucking written contracts, how do they work?
It appears to be doing its job of making it impossible to pin the blame on any given party.
WIN!
" ... will apply two coats of Type 27-B paint of color Brilliant White to form block letters three (3) feet tall and two (2) feet wide spelling out the word 'SCOHOL' ..."
Magic?
The S will be painted over with AL
After seeing as much of the Democratic convention as I've seen, I won't have to watch any more of those where-are-they-now shows for a while.
"If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..." he said, "a real change-maker represents a real threat."
So pick the one who's been on the inside for twenty-five years.
What the fuck is this "change" shit Hillary and the Dems seem to be running on now? Change from the awesomeness of the last 8 years? That Hillary was a very active part of?
"Maybe we should get us some of that ree-form."
"We can't be the ree-form candidate, you idjut! We's the incumbent!"
Exactly.
That's what makes it so confusing. It's completely tone deaf to the (accurate) charge that Hillary is the establishment, insider candidate that doesn't seem to be offering any change or shake-up.
It sounds like an endorsement of Gary Johnson, not Clinton.
Another confusion is that Bill hammered on how everything Hillary touches turns to gold he was apparently not referring to her secretive fund raising.
Hilary was definitely making more than just spare change in the government.

EXCLUSIVE: IRS Launches Investigation Of Clinton Foundation
Lois Lerner is on the case!
Oh, John Koskinen, will you ever Lerner?
Crusty would.
Hey-Yo!
Spoiler Alert: 'Nothing to see here.'
They will "investigate" and find there is not a smidgen of corruption.
No, there were mistakes made--reckless, horrible mistakes--but no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges for such massive corruption.
no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges against his next boss for such massive corruption.
They sent the matter to the EO division? Well, that's reassuring; there's never been any allegations of politically motivated corruption in that branch...
They're only doing it now so they can absolve the Foundation of all wrongdoing before the election.
Winnah winnah, chicken dinner!
exactly right
If they wrap this up before the election, that will be the fastest that the IRS has cleared a taxpayer of wrongdoing in the history of tax collection.
Oh she's really fucked now! No way Hilary is going to get out of this one! For sure! Like totally!
I have every confidence that they will be objective.
So, in two years: "We have found that the President's foundation engaged in multiple acts of bribery and corruption. However, it seems that there was no ill intent, as enriching Democrats is never a bad thing. Moreover, no reasonable prosecutor would want to see their friends and family tortured and murdered. Therefore, we find that no reasonable prosecutor would pursue this case. We recommend dropping all charges."
""If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..." he said, "a real change-maker represents a real threat."
We just had eight years of hope and change.
Where's the change-making in another four years of that?
This.
Why didn't the Dems change everything when they had control of the government?
Because OBSTRUCTIONIST RETHUGLIKKKANS!!11111!!
Racism, of course.
They didn't know what they wanted until they were told what they couldn't have.
When he said "change maker," I immediately thought "cashier."
That's what I was thinking throughout the speech, as well. She's a great change-maker. You giver her a twenty, a single, and a quarter when your total is $11.21, and without a second's hesitation, she'll hand you a ten and four pennies.
She's more likely to give you four pennies and claim you handed her a ten instead of a twenty.
She was born to be a change maker!
"If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..." he said, "a real change-maker represents a real threat."

Yep.

"The median net worth for black households fell to $11,000 in 2013, a 33.7 percent drop from $16,600 in 2010, as the racial wealth gap continued to widen even after the recession"
But the fraction actually working has declined as well, i.e. more on welfare, food stamps, etc.
And they will continue to vote in virtual lockstep for the Presidential candidate of the same party that has held the White House for the last 8 years and presided over this decline in their fortunes.
If unity=voting for Hilary then not voting for Hilary=civil war?
New legislation proposes to 'bail in' Social Security
Bailing in would be filling your boat up with water so it sinks faster. Is that really what they are talking about?
They're talking about "saving" Social Security, so even if it's not intentional, it's accurate.
And when employers decline to raise wages as quickly or at all... who's paying the tax then?
Given the number of non-retired people who were working 10 years ago, who are now receiving Federal bennies, I think they're gonna have to look for a different revenue stream than payroll taxes. I do hope they wear a mask and wave a gun when they tell me they're looting my 401(k).

Apparently their AI wrote the script for the 2016 election.
No, the 2016 election is a rip off of Starcraft.

Hillary Clinton was made official as the Democratic presidential candidate Tuesday.
WSJ had an article (behind a paywall) that basically said the women who aren't blown away by Hillary's Historic Moment are just spoiled young whipper snappers who don't appreciate how far feminism has come. Nothing about her blatant corruption. So now I'm wondering, if Hitler had been a woman, would the allies have just been a bunch of sexists? How bad does a female candidate have to be for feminists to have a shred of objectivity?
That's easy she just has to be a Republican.
I want Hillary to lose and then in 2024 have a Republican woman nomination. I want all these same people to come out in support and vote for her in such a historic moment.
That would be pretty funny
Of course they wouldn't support her, but they'd hate the fact that THEIR team didn't get the historic moment, so the pouting would be fun to watch.
NO IT WOULD NOT!!

If Gary Johnson gets to 15% and makes the debates, do they have to walk back that "first woman of a major party" schtick?
No, because they qualified it with "major party".
Gary Johnson is not the *right* kind of gay just like Condi Rice - despite speaking Russian and playing the piano (which already makes her sexier than Hillary - wasn't the *right* kind of woman for feminists.
"Gay"?
Rethuglikkkans are not real womyn!!
That would be funny as hell. And given the kind of karmic payback that seems to be going on these days, I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.
As you look forward to that possibility, sit back and enjoy this. In 2008, the media decided Obama was the light giver and turned on Hillary. There is a long list of nasty things Obama and the very media people who are today calling anyone who criticizes Hillary a sexist said about Hillary back in the spring of 2008. Trump has put out a montage video of Obama going after Hillary. It is quite amusing.
Trump has put out a montage video of Obama going after Hillary. It is quite amusing.
And will be ignored by the media.
Of course. but thanks to youtube and the internet, it won't matter. Everyone will see it. At this point buying television ad time is a waste of money. No one watches TV anymore and when they do they don't watch the commercials. You get better results putting a commercial out on the internet and letting your supporters on the net hype it.
...He's running a campaign for the presidency.
We all know that wouldn't happen.
Fun fact: The first woman to receive a vote in the electoral college was Libertarian Vice-Presidential candidate Tonie Nathan in 1972.
if Hitler had been a woman, would the allies have just been a bunch of sexists?
Awesome premise for a novel.
The Crazy Cat Lady in the High Castle
Make the Battle of the Bulge a little awkward.
If only someone could have predicted that programs like "cash for clunkers" would hurt the poor by driving up used car prices, or that raising the minimum wage would lead to more black unemployment.
It'll be fun, in 2020, after a $15 min wage has wreaked havoc with employment, to see the democrats use the higher unemployment rate as justification for more government interference.
You have odd ideas about what constitutes "fun."
Libertarian puts the "fun" back into "funeral".
And "dysfunctional."
Yeah it's funny, in the last few weeks I've had a few liberal acquaintances post on Facebook about having difficulty buying a cheap used car. They were shocked when I told them it was because of Cash for Clunkers. They had no idea that it required well functioning late model cars to be crushed and now as a result there is a shortage of 6 - 15 year old cars on the market for them to buy cheaply.
I currently work with a friend that ships old car parts from Canada. Cash for clunkers has been a blessing for him. He quit his day-job and now pretty much only does this full time. It's paying his house. And it pays me too! Thanks Obama!
Iowahawk is a National Treasure:
Typhoid Mary was a cook, brah.
THAT'S THE JOKE!
Actually, I think Burge may have had a rare mis-step on this one.
He certainly is.
FWIW, reminded ("all in all it seems it's just an experience") me of this beautiful song.
Has anyone watched Stranger Things on Netlfix, yet?
Given the amount of praise that Slate and Gawker Media is smearing all over it, I'm very leery.
A couple of friends have independently recommended it - and they are largely apolitical.
I've been watching Bosch on Amazon Prime. Pretty good. He even refuses to back a cop's lie about an accidental gun discharge being an attempt by a guy to escape.
I liked Bosch. Good "procedural" cop show.
I've been watching it and enjoying it. It's a pretty good horror/mystery/sci-fi story with some pretty good young actors.
[Makes mental note to add to list.]
I binge watched it last weekend. I enjoyed it. There are no SJW themes involved.
I liked it, though some of it was 80's nostalgia. It's pretty heavily influenced by old Stephen King (Firestarter, The Body, It, etc.).
Klobuchar hit all the talking points for a major human trafficking industry hysteria. It's a regurgitation of drug war propaganda from the 80's. "They're stealing your children right under your noses! It can happen to anyone! Big business!" As evidence she used a Malaysian girl who was sold into sex trafficking (yes it is common in third world countries - parents sell their own children into sex trafficking rings but it's not a problem in the US) and then she brought up the case of the girl who was trafficked in MN but it was really a one-time event (though horrifying) and probably involved the parents as well. And then she said this is why we must bomb ISIS: "Otherwise they will sell themselves into international sex trafficking rings." Pure propaganda. Fool me once. #NeverAgain
My dad made a good point last night. The Democrats trotting Bill Clinton out when their problem is getting the Bernie Bros to fall inline was likely a mistake. Kids born in the 1990s have no idea who Bill Clinton was. He is just someone their parents liked. My father remembered how his mother worshiped FDR when he was a kid growing up and the 1950s and how as a kid those appeals meant nothing to him. I imagine the Bernie bros feel the same way about Bill Clinton that my dad felt about FDR.
You have a father? I thought you were a drunk stork baby.
I have a guy my mom told me was my father.
Wrong. Kids today are fascinated by our recent past. Times have changed.
No the ones I know.
You can't do any on-line research on Bill at all without learning about his horrid sexual history, which is much more off-putting to the kinds of young people who are Dem activists than it was to their parents.
He has been neutered by Trump in the primaries, and if he sticks his head above the parapet during the general will be neutered again. I suspect Hillary had been counting on him as a campaign asset, but I don't think its going to work out that way.
I don't think that word means what you think it means.
""If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade..." he said, "a real change-maker represents a real threat.""
Bill is right about one thing, the government is perfectly capable of doing a proper parade - think of all those Red Square parades the Soviet Union held.
"Needs more goose-stepping!"
There's a clever YouTube ad in there, cutting from Bill's statement with a voiceover "He's right, if there's one thing government can do, its run a parade" over footage of goose-stepping Nazis and hordes of lockstep commies.
All remaining charges against officers in Freddie Gray case dropped.
"Future first gentleman Bill Clinton spoke at the Democratic Convention last night." Did I miss the election?
You think the general election is less rigged than the primary?
Charges dismissed against Planned Parenthood videographers
"The Harris County District Attorney's office on Tuesday dismissed all charges against anti-abortion activists who secretly videotaped Planned Parenthood officials in Houston....
"[David Robert] Deleiden and his attorneys claimed victory for the anti-abortion movement, saying they were satisfied with the decision."
Statement from the President of Students for Life of America, Kristan Hawkins:
"David Daleiden's courage and fortitude to expose the nation's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, should have been met with immediate investigation and prosecution of the baby parts profit-making scheme by the Harris County District Attorney. Yet, it was David instead of Planned Parenthood who took the heat for daring to show the nation what our tax dollars have been funding. Planned Parenthood needs to be held accountable for their horrendous business practices of betraying their clients and selling their babies piece-by-piece for profit. We need to get to the bottom of why rampant corruption occurred during the investigation in Harris County. The DA made a mockery of the office, colluded with an organization that should have had its employees arrested and charged for criminal conduct, and indicted a journalist who exposed Planned Parenthood.
"David Daleiden is a hero, and we are thrilled that these scam indictments have rightly been tossed. This is a huge win for all citizen journalists whose First Amendment rights were upheld today."
The process is the punishment. The Houston DA's office sent their message. I am still appalled reason has refused to cover this case. It is a DA abusing his power to try and punish an activist group for having an opinion the DA's office doesn't like. It is also the government using the criminal law system to punish someone for blowing the whistle on a powerful and connected organization.
You would think reason would see a lot of Libertarian angles to that story. But that is just me.
Reason's devolved into libertarians for fascism.
Might be worth a full post from Reason.
The process is the punishment, on full display. Abuse of authority to advance a political agenda doesn't get much clearer than this. Free speech under attack. All the kinds of things Reason might write about it.
If it wasn't pro-lifers getting jackbooted, anyway.
Surprise me, Reason!
"a real change-maker represents a real threat."
Upon which the crowd began waiving preprinted 'change maker' signs.
I have to hand it to Billy, he was artful, but it was all very transparently theater. Also, his premise and most of what he said was pure bullshit.
He meant this kind of changemaker.
I wouldn't want that guy in front of me in line at the airport.
Heroes of the Storm: Video Game Player Threatens to Bring AK-47 to Company's Headquarters, Officials Say
WHAT AN HERO
No, "an hero" would only be if he kills himself to avoid prison.

Susan Sarandon: Actress Responds to Claim That She Is 'Having the Worst Time' at DNC
She's a Bernie supporter, I'm guessing.
Proof that no one actually reads the links....
ENB SF'd the link on the Bernie walkout and no one has commented on it yet. The link she posted there goes to a story about the WHO possibly removing transgender disorder from a list of medical diagnoses, not anything about the convention.
Link-reading is for homos.
A sort of Freudian slip? Brown kind of looks and acts like a tranny.
Dude, wtf? Stick to coming up with retarded variations of names.
We needed proof for that which is known? lol.
ps: Good catch, and an interesting article. The yokeltarians may need to revise one of their arguments.
I saw that too but she gets a free pass because of the Fruit Sushi roasting.
Read my links, no new hackers.
A recruiter from the company I work for sent me an email trying to recruit me for a job on another contract.
Now I'm trying to figure out the most embarrassing response. I was thinking something like "If the company is wanting to reassign me, I'd be more comfortable talking to my current project manager".
READ RESUMES, for frack's sake.
The constant hammering on the Speilberg connection is what made me wonder, because there's a hit and miss director if there were was one. (Despite the fact that Jaws is one of my favorite movies.)
It's pretty good so far. Through seven episodes. And the music is great. Even my 13 and 12 year olds like the songs.
If Richard Dreyfus is in it, its a winner. Puppets are no guarantee.
I'd say it's more Stephen King than Steven Spielberg. It's pretty dark. Though both of those guys do a good job of portraying kids undertaking dangerous adventures, which is a lot of the plot.
+1 "I don't need this working-class-hero crap."
Ahem, Always? Really, Brett? I see that Patchouli Poisoning is still doing its evil work...
Only Spielberg + Dreyfuss.
