Leaked Emails: The Democratic Party Has No Idea What to Do About Common Core, Will Ignore It
'Common Core is a political third rail we should not be touching at all.'

The Common Core national education standards are deeply unpopular with conservatives and left-leaning teachers unions. But since it's not a wedge issue, the Democratic Party has no idea how to exploit it for political gain.
Instead, the party is simply ignoring Common Core altogether, according to internal emails recently leaked by Wikileaks. Eric Walker, a communications director for the DNC, explicitly told staffers that they "should not be touching it at all." Here's the relevant section of his email:
Common Core is a political third rail that we should not be touching at all. Get rid of it.
Most people want local control of education so having Cruz and Trump saying it on a DNC video is counterproductive. Would get rid of any references to that.
Common Core was a bipartisan reform first backed by the Bush administration and enthusiastically pushed by the Obama administration, which incentivized the states to adopt it. The standards themselves were birthed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The goal was to create a set of universal math and English standards, but critics contend that Common Core essentially creates a national curriculum—one that has been very poorly implemented.
Conservatives don't like to cede control over educational matters to the feds. But a lot of liberals don't like Common Core, either. That's because it requires teachers to prepare students for high-stakes standardized testing, which they claim undermines their autonomy within the classroom.
Donald Trump has promised to put an end to Common Core. Some states that have formally backed out of the standards actually continue to abide by them—they just don't refer to it as Common Core. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, supports Common Core, though it's clear we won't hear her talk about it anytime soon.

The Democratic Party has no idea what to Do About Common Core, Will Ignore It
Oh, so the same thing they do with every disaster that they create.
The title should read Democrat Party has no idea how to exploit Common Vote for political gain, will avoid it
Core dammit
There should be a whole article on things the Red and Blue Teams can't figure out how to exploit for political gain so they'll ignore.
Hmmmmm.....

The Lizard People in charge don't allow themselves to be exploited so easily.
Essentially, as Scott Adams once said, they'll just treat it like a dead ferret.
My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do... http://www.Trends88.com
Federal education standards, what could go wrong?
So the Dems have no evidence that Russia hacked their server, it's just a talking point invented by their shills in the mms, the same propagandists that the colluded with, fed talking points to. Let me guess, these same outlets that claim there is no way the Russians hacked Cankle's unsecured private server.
Honestly, who buys this bullshit?
A lot of people do
I am guessing a lot of crossover between those people and people with scrambled cat shit between their ears
Honestly, who buys this bullshit?
Democrat voter sheep.
Why, exactly, would Putin want Trump as president? Someone who will be harder to deal with instead of a feckless idiot in Hillary, that will give Putin at least another 4 years of doing whatever he wants to do with no chance of consequences?
Hillary has been a target of Julian Assange and Wikileaks for years now because Hillary is such an easy target and so loathsome among other reasons.
This is just a case of denial by the DNC that a lesser opponent can so easily wound them. That's all it is.
Why, exactly, would Putin want Trump as president?
That's what I want to know. Is there some explanation out there, or is it just known?
Putin is a man [spit] who can't deal with a Strong, Independent Woman and would rather have anyone else as President?
It is known. Your goodthink chip must be malfunctioning.
I would guess that Trump could care less how much ground Russia takes in Europe cuz: a. They're all a bunch of ingrate commies so fuck em and b. Possible nuclear war ain't worth the populations involved (see ingrate commies)
I posted it already on another thread:
Respect. Putin is tired of being criticized for violating various international rules and human rights by the Western leaders. He is certain that the West demonstrates doubles standards and hypocrisy when it deals with Russia. He believes that Trump doesn't care about this "bullshit" and will treat him and Russia with respect that the world power like Russia deserves.
It is known.
"Honestly, who buys this bullshit?"
...
Hitler?
Even if the Russians are responsible, that doesn't mean the information is wrong or irrelevant. It's nothing but a distraction.
Yes, it's basically a total logical disconnect. Hillary Clinton had a totally unsecured server that ran classified data through it, but obviously no Russian would dare hack her then use that information against her as leverage after she becomes President! How dare you!
The DNC itself is hacked and information is leaked? Well it must have been Russia and Putin trying to get Trump elected! After all, the Russians are amazing hackers and we should be afraid of them since they're so amazing at getting at restricted data!
My head is spinning with how obviously bullshit the entire thing is. I'd have said it was a conspiracy theory that Debbie would torpedo Sanders just to land a gig back with Hillary, but now it's starting to look like Hillary had a virtually infinite amount of cards up her sleeves. Saying the system is rigged is an understatement. The system is owned.
But since it's not a wedge issue, the Democratic Party has no idea how to exploit it for political gain.
Robby, this may be the best thing you've written this week. You may spike the football.
Robby, this may be the best thing you've written this week ever.
Someone tell me again how I am a paranoid yokeltarian by referring to the Dems as closet commits and anti-American

Well they finally got there American flags. So I guess you can rest easy.

Yikes.
Remember how superman could simply put his glasses back on and no one would recognize him?
It doesn't really work that way.
Honestly, I haven't spent much time paying attention to Bernie because his positions are clear and they suck.
I watched last night and thought to myself "this dude really is just a straight-up fucking communist." Honestly, if any R had said "revolution" that many times in a speech, they'd be under investigation right now. And it was all predicated entirely on free shit. Free college (and retroactive free college!!!), free healthcare... You name it.
I would like to sign up for this retroactive free college, please. I mean, it's a horrible and ignorant policy to propose, but if it does ever get enacted, I'm getting mine.
Yeah, if they do end up doing that does that mean I get all the payments I've already made back as cash? Somehow I doubt it. But sure, lets screw over the responsible people so that people who made shitty life choices can get a bail out and thus learn that poor choices have no consequences. What could go wrong?
Commies dammit

Lenin's rolling in his Mausoleum as we speak.
Speaking of comparing the RNC and DNC, my Democratic wife (bless her heart) pointed out that if you froze either Elizabeth Warren's or Bernie Sander's wave at the right time, you get a Hitler Greeting.
After the freeze-frame Heil Trumpler pic of Laura Ingraham, people are doing exactly that for the Dem speakers.
Why would you think a movement bankrolled by a Jewish Nazi would want to harm its own people?
Stanford has an experimental accelerated learning program designed to maximize learning at the student's true pace, rather than the one set for them by Department of Education officials from afar.
Any time we tell a child they can't have learned fractions yet, the unit is nine weeks long and if they've learned it all in three weeks, NO, they still have six weeks to go, we make it that much longer until I have a lightsaber in my hands.
I actually quite liked (in theory*) the German divided school system. "Like" is perhaps too strong a term for that which is most efficiently handled in just about any manner other than the one we've chosen, but assuming it must involve some sort of gathering local children into one central location, then I like the German divided school system.
* In theory. I'm sure someone can describe the many failings in practice with that, and I would appreciate it if they would do so.
The public education system has been outdated for at least 50 years. Now, with the intertoobz, it's not only outdated, it's obsolete. AI will be the end of public education. And I say, good.
That's an interesting idea, but it's "dangerous." It would highlight inequalities of talent and outcome. The current school system is set up to mitigate those inequalities.
Even if we have to send humankind back more than a thousand years, it's worth it just so the feelings of even one child are not hurt. The Dark Ages really were not that bad.
FTR, I like the idea. It's just that it would be met with extreme derision in the US.
IQ tests are considered racist. There is no reason to suspect this would turn out any differently.
The feelings of all the smart kids who get held back are hurt all the time, and nobody gives a shit about them.
That's because they're obviously white or Asian privileged class 1 percenters.
Shut, up, you, you Ender Wiggins!
I think this is why I was not a good student, even though I learned everything and aced tests. I mean, why go to 5th period when Mr Cerny is still teaching the chapter on whatever, when you've already read the text book, have no questions, and read all the test questions at the end of the chapter and could answer them all?
I mean, the mall was right there! With all the stoner chicks skipping 5th period walking around in black mini skirts!
^^this^^
Ah, buzzword update.
Not "dangerous". Rather, the new*, ill-defined all-purpose synonym for "ungood": problematic.
This is a definite powered up version of a word that once indicated there were aspects of a thing that might require discussion, alteration or compromise. Now, with +3 Power of Social Media Destruction and added splash damage, the meaning is more along the lines of "intolerable. clearly indicative of unacceptable [ ...ism or ...phobia ]", with the brackets, of course, containing the unacceptable attitudes. (Though I don't know why they bother to specify, since they** never actually explain HOW something is "problematic", and they always attribute ALL of these unacceptable traits to anyone who exhibits any single one of them to their dissatisfaction.)
*-not really very new, I suppose.
**-yes, we know who "they" are. Don't be problematic.
Late bloomers. I knew a guy, let's call him Timmy, that was very immature for his age until about the end of 8th grade. Then he basically put on a mask and cape, shot to the forefront of math and science classes in high school, went to a very prestigious university, became an engineer, and if his Facebook page is true, is doing pretty OK for himself.
In the German system he'd be sweeping floors for a living.
This is definitely also a possible problem. But standardized tests bias surprisingly little toward educational achievement and more toward general IQ. The SAT is essentially a Wonderlic test with a written component. My guess is that your buddy would do fine on these tests without having studied much.
Standardized tests mostly just test how well people have mindlessly memorized information. So they fail to eliminate people who don't truly understand the material.
And I don't know why anyone cares about IQ.
I've aced many of them based on rote memorization, diverse reading and applied logic. For example, by rights I ought to have miserably failed the mechanic and electrical sections of the ASFAB. I am horrible in those subjects, they are my Waterloo. I missed two questions on the whole test.
Street cred. I was still in elementary school when I realized they mostly test memory, and mistake that for intelligence.
As best as I can tell, we have yet to devise a test that will reliably measure actual intelligence. I look forward to the day we can.
It is possible to switch school types in Germany ? easier when you're younger and more difficult when you're older.
The biggest complaint I've heard about the German system is that once you're on one track you're kind of stuck on it. So if you're a bit of a screwup in your youth, and decide to clean up your act and focus on your studies, then transferring to the college track is a huge pain in the ass. (Still possible though.)
Are you suggesting there's such a thing as an undisciplined German?
Most certainly. He's over there next to the lazy Japanese man.
Early bloomers - I know another guy, let's call him Billy, that was the darling of teachers and pretty good at fooling the system in grade school/high school. Even voted most likely to succeed senior year. Struggled to get a lib arts degree when he ran into profs that saw thru his BS and wanted actual quality work. Eventually wound up teaching. In the German system he'd be a Sr. VP at BMW.
I think we can stipulate that no centralized en masse proposal will accomplish much for the outliers except temporary daytime storage. That's essentially my objection to a centralized educational system - by necessity and design, it operates for the system's convenience, not the students'.
To be fair the US did use to have a similar stem to the Germans back in the day when high schools had shop classes. So even the kids who weren't going to college would still graduate with useful skills like car repair, welding, carpentry, etc.
The problem is that schools have focused on trying to get everybody to go to college so now the vocational programs that our parents grew up with are almost non-existent.
Who needs mechanics when you've got gender bias experts?
If having high national standards for schoolkids is a good thing, wouldn't a brave leader insist on pushing toward the goal regardless of whether or not it's politically unpopular? Isn't there a term for politicians who shy away from controversial decisions specifically because they're controversial and therefore vote-losers? (If you're familiar with Yes, Minister you know the answer to that - a "brave" decision is one that's liable to cost you your job and very few statesmen are statesman enough to stand on a losing principle. "I'd rather be right than President" gets a chuckle out of them every time.)
Conservatives don't like to cede control over educational matters to the feds. But a lot of liberals don't like Common Core, either.
By the way, the Common Core issue is the perfect example of progressives getting what they wanted, morphing into what they deserved-- and conservatives being 100% correct about.
Someone in my Facebook feed asked "Why can't she [Michele Obama] be the next US president?"
Which I find pretty amazing. Has she given *any* indication that she would be a good executive? Leader? Politician? I mean, she gave a good speech apparently, but sure that can't be *all* that people look for in a president, can it?
Oh..hmm...
Didn't you just describe Obama's political pedigree... in more words than even necessary?
Yes.
Michelle Obama would just be yet another empty suit/pantsuit/dress. Yeah, that's precisely what the U.S. needs right now...
Right now or never. Michelle Obama royally pissed off an entire generation with her school lunch program. Once those kids reach voting age, her political aspirations may need revision.
Her speech was entirely about racism. People still aren't sick of it, I guess.
Democrats aren't.
Well, compared to Clinton...
LynchPin, she's a Strong Black Woman. Any "experience" or "accomplishments" are insignificant compared to that.
So would Condi Rice or Mia Love be good candidates then?
No, they're Aunt Toms. Traitors to their race, etc, etc.
You ever notice that the things that democrats consider "the Third Rail" most often tend to be *their own policies*?
e.g. "Things Democrats Don't Want to Talk About"
- Healthcare (Obamacare)
- Education (Common Core)
- Criminal justice reform (& Clinton's 'tough on crime' legacy)
- Foreign Policy (Like Clinton's "reset button failure", or clamoring to intervene in Libya or Syria)
....
what DO they want to talk about? "I have a vagina, and those men with red ties are racists"
All the ways they haven't wasted your money yet.
Well perhaps Mr.Trump will ask pointed questions about these things in the debates? Or just bloviate?
The basic premise of common core is that learning should be individually paced. The student learns a skill, takes a test, and when he passes it, he moves onto the next challenge. If he doesn't pass the test he loops back through the learning material again. Electronic lessons and the impartial tests make this practical when it wasn't before.
Please feel free to read that again if you didn't get it the first time. Now, here comes the test. Why don't democrats like common core?
Because "basic premise" is the extent of proggie forethought?
Bill Gates, who designed and funded much of this, seems very capable of exercising some forethought.
Bill Gates isn't the one running the reeducation camps.
Bill Gates "creation" of MS-DOS was the equivalent of buying a term paper.
What does the history of MS-DOS have to do with Common Core and its current implementation?
At that very high level of abstraction, its pretty unobjectionable.
As are most things at a very high level of abstraction.
Results come from how well the rubber meets the road, though, and I don't think Common Core's rubber is performing particularly well.
If Common Core does perform well it will still, in aggregate, rank Ashkenazi Jews, East Asians, Europeans, and so on in exactly the same order that they rank now in standardized test scores. This is what democrats and egalitarians are deathly afraid of and why they are backing off promoting it. That was the answer to my question.
Utter nonsense.
The basic premise of common core is solely to strengthen Federal control of public education. It falls on the heels of NCLB and earlier efforts. The unions and resource providers to this legally required industry are a large voting block that can firmly fall under the statist umbrella when their livelihoods are dictated/controlled by the Feds. Public schools are now beholden to the Federal finance teat.
The only reason Dems don't like Common Core is that it has been vigorously opposed at the grassroots level and they don't won't to be publically tied to it. They will most definitely support and grow it behind closed doors, but not admit to it publically.
The exact same is true of Obamacare. It was never about healthcare, but rather about making 1/6th of the US economy beholden to the Feds.
Eat my butt.
Which... probably would oblige.
Nice resume there. Absolutely no experience outside of politics.
Very presidential!
Would eat butt 10/10
Assange hints that it weren't the Russkies what stole the emails.
It's like if Tom Clancy wrote an episode of Black Mirror.
*Grabs popcorn*
I think it should be screamingly obvious that it was a bernie supporter inside the DNC who just handed over creditials to some 3rd party and let them get ganked.
It's horrendous. The idea was to bring up the grades of struggling students, largely minority ones. It has failed to do that while simultaneously stunting the gifted students.
Public ed has striven for those twin goals for a very long time, substituting "levelling" for "equality", since the latter has proven more stubbornly difficult to achieve in the real world than in 'the narrative' wherein all inequalities of result are caused by...wanna guess?
Public ed is not about education. It's about directing the tax dollars to where the cronies benefit the most. Inner city schools suck, not because of where they are or their funding, but because more of the money gets skimmed off by greater levels of corruption.
White suburbia is far far more tied into their Public Ed and school boards which significantly inhibits the levels of corruption.
Democrats use Johnson's proposal to get rid of the DOE to scare people out of voting for him. The horror! Better to keep public education in the hands of people who have no plans for or intentions of improving our public schools.
As a teacher, I can attest to CC sucking ass. The issue is not that it removes autonomy... there is no directive of HOW to teach (according to the standards at least... there are directives that come from elsewhere) but only of WHAT to teach. And the standards assume your students are on grade level... which by definition isn't true of struggling students. I'm left with the job of teaching the Enlightenment to 10th graders who can't read Dick and Jane. From pure observation, I'm failing to meet those standards. The students are not held back until HS to any real degree to ensure their improved aptitude meaning by HS they hit the wall of tests they must pass to graduate. Most of them say "screw it... I'm too far behind" and disrupt to classroom for those few who give a shit. That means no one is learning and few pass the test, relegating them to the status of "failures" and they retreat farther until they drop out (which statistically serves as the beginning of a slow death, literally and figuratively). That's the problem with CC at least from my school.
But as a means of producing a steady supply of unemployable, resentful "activists"? Works pretty well, it seems.
And for the few who struggle through such a difficult learning environment, there's well-meaning progs right there to make sure they get admitted to schools guaranteed to be above their level, ensuring BLM recruits...errr...academic failure.

If your school system is graduating elementary and middle school students who can't read Dick and Jane, that's not a problem with Common Core.
''Common Core is a political third rail we should not be touching at all.'"
That's actually great news.
I've made $64,000 so far this year working online and I'm a full time student. Im using an online business opportunity I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it. Heres what I do,

Separation of school and state.
Problem solved.
"Most people want local control of education so having Cruz and Trump saying it on a DNC video is counterproductive. Would get rid of any references to that."
This line was pretty damn interesting to me. It implies that someone wanted to insult Cruz and Trump by suggesting that they support local control of education. Presumably this would have been followed by an explanation of how Clinton supports common core. So, Eric Walker looked at the situation and realized that his candidate was supporting a view that was very unpopular and tried to avoid letting people know that. Nice.
just before I saw the receipt that said $7527 , I accept that my mom in-law woz like actualey making money in there spare time from there pretty old laptop. . there aunt had bean doing this for less than twentey months and at present cleared the depts on there appartment and bourt a great new Citro?n 2CV . look here.......

You all assume Common Core or national education standards are a thing of the past. Destruction of the Republic is paramount for these usurpers and "useful idiots", so you have to have an unarmed and dumb citizenry to succeed. Hence, fed standards to dumb down the USA.
