That actually could be fun. Be careful gentlemen.
Surrious Q =
Did Nick & Matt do conventions before? like 2012, 2008? I don't recall.
If so, i applaud their new efforts. Regardless of...
(i am trying a new "say some nice things"-policy)
...yes, great effort. Also, its nice to hear party-people express their appreciation for libertarian ideas while systematically enabling their eradication.
Matt was definitely at the conventions in 2012. I don't think they did livestreaming commentary and interviews back then, and they may have a bigger team at the conventions this year.
There was a Reason contingency at the DNC in Denver in 2008, including Welch.
Nick said in the street interview with Johnson that he hadn't been to the RNC before so maybe he is a convention virgin. Matt has been at several so he is kinda slutty that way (not that there is anything wrong with that)
I know the writers here get a lot of shit from the commenters, but let's have a moment of silence for the sacrifice Welch and Gillespie are making on our behalves. I would not want to expose myself to megasieverts of derp in this concentration.
Don't forget the fart-in.
Have the nearby [ethnicity omitted] restaurants been doing much-better-than-expected business? If so, that's a warning sign.
(If you automatically filled in the ethnicity, that's because you're a racist)
There are a lot of ethnicities that would easily fit.
Including German with all the wursts and kraut.
They sacrifice brain cells so we don't have to.
Then again, I could just not pay attention to it. But I receive pleasure from watching the Bern Victims stomp their feet in anguish.
The derp will tear Welch and Gillespie atom from atom until nothing of either remains. In their place a new being manifests, Doctor Liberty*, a libertarian composed of kaleidoscopic light radiating social-bond breaking energy from every pore and orifice.
*not to be confused with Ron or Rand Paul
Like Doctor Manhattan, but with even more flaunting of societal norms?
Exactly.
I don't think they should be praised for attending the conventions. The conventions are inconsequential exercises in kabuki theater. I can understand dispatching one reporter to file one report a day over the shenanigans, but the breathless constant coverage and nuanced analysis is really overblown.
I guess there isn't much real news going on. Or perhaps the fleshpots Philadelphia are unusually tasty.
If it weren't for schadenfreude I'd hang up my Rothbard-imprinted bow tie and call it a day.
Even "alternative" media just goes with the flow, I guess.
I love kibuki! so style, much grimace.
(trying to say nice things; but i agree entirely)
I guess I should gird myself for a week of H&R commenters complaining about the proliferation of Hillary articles and unfair criticisms of Hillary.
SICK BURN.
i mean that in a nice way.
Something tells me you won't see that because because Hillary hate is in the DNA, where Trump hate seems to be learned.
Suderman's trying his damn hardest.
You may be right, I have seen a lot of people using words like 'twat' and 'cunt' lately.
They won't because Reason now has a FEMALE editor and they all stick TOGETHER.
Because they're sticky?
And they're cycles sync up and then next thing you know you have bears.
They are cycles, I guess.
Goddam drop bears!
Enjoy Filthacrapia, Reason. In all its glory.
Bring more than one microphone this time.
At least have two turntables.
(I don't know if this is SFW, because I can't understand the lyrics)
Classic rock is always SFW. It's like a 1970s PG movie with nudity.

MSNBC: "Wasserman Schultz receives cheers at Florida delegation breakfast"

What you did there, I sore it.
This makes me moist.

Hillary's mood today. It's not how she imagined her mini-coronation.
Would. If I had a time machine.
OT, but has 'Grandma Tarkin' as a nickname for Hillary been claimed yet? If not, I do.
What is this, a studio show? Might as well have them in front of a green screen and add in Filthadelphia streets later.
Maybe later in the week they do man-in-the-street questions of Hillary supporters for the funny reactions and stupid responses. ("what are Hillary's greatest accomplishments?" etc.)
Stump a Hillbot.
Matt and Nick probably consider themselves too serious for that.
Ace reflects on the #NeverTrump prognostication in light of Trump's bounce:
To begin with, Trump was never in a position to inherit voters from the party: he's the insurgent, the out-and-proud outsider, and he's never taken his responsibility to woo voters back over very seriously. In fact he's beset by an ineluctable compulsion to discourage potential allies (one reason I don't think he earnestly wants to win). So let's dismiss the idea that anyone, much less small-government idealists, are under any compulsion to support someone promising more and bigger government than ever before.
Secondly, even a dead cat bounces. Hillary doesn't have to make many overtures to her voters: she passes the litmus test for most lefty voters, e.g. she doesn't instantly dismiss any idea that grows the reach and force of government. Everything else is internecine bitterness which may dissuade potential party voters but it's not driving them into Trump's arms. This election is Hillary's to lose, and her pitch is much more sensible and grounded than Trump's.
Finally, what does it behoove libertarian or conservative voters to vote in a Democrat just because he's marginally less nauseating than the Democrat running as a Democrat? His becomes the face of any small-government impetus left in this country simply by virtue of taking over the party that parrots small-government platitudes. Sure, the GOP deserves to be punished for its profligacy and faithlessness. But it's hardly punishing the faithless pro-government quislings in the party by giving them a pro-government candidate who sneers at Constitutional restraint.
AH CAIN'T TELL, DO U WANT 2 MAKE MKASEREICA GRAT AGIN R NOT
Trump wants to make America inchoate. Hillary wants to make it menstruate.
I want to make it tessellate.
her pitch is much more sensible and grounded than Trump's.
Are they going to a My Chemical Romance concert later or something?
Of course not. They're part of a Mummenschanz revival
Or, they are a modern-day version of Sprockets.
Sprockets is the correct reference.
Matt: [extensive analysis]
Nick: "Uh huh" (watches daytime soaps on laptop)
I just want a 5 minute heads up before he starts the bestiality jokes.
YOU VILL HAVE NUSSINK!
"Xenophobia is the Republican Party's clitoris".
Toward the end there was some mention of Astroglide...
Nick (paraphrase) = "Its amazing to me that liberals can swallow that Hillary was against gay marriage in 2013, against legal marijuana for many years...and accept that she was "lying before" and not "lying now""
I agree. They are amazing people. (raises fist in solidarity with something)
Yeah!
Honestly, the "flip-flop" criticism is overdone. People do change their minds. But here it is so obviously just following the political winds, so to speak. Especially amazing when you consider how now anyone opposed to gay marriage must be a horrible paleo-con who wants to kill all gays and only 8 or so years ago, pretty much every mainstream politician in either party voiced exactly the same views.
Brendan Eich's mistake was not registering Democrat fast enough?
I think Matt makes good point = Democrats *used to* pretend during campaigns to care about stuff like 'deficits' or 'debt' and general good-governance, cleaning up failed bureaucracy, etc.
Now they don't even pretend.
Did the politicians change or does the audience not care anymore? - i'd guess that they think culture war + free stuff is more than enough for their constituents to chew on.
So the worst of the Wikileaks email dump I'm seeing is that they wanted to plant questions for Bernie at interviews in important states to point out that he isn't really a Jew--he's an atheist.
At least, that's the worst I've seen. I keep reading pieces about the emails that don't actually tell us what's in the emails--I suppose that's to be expected from Hillary's allies on the left.
Has anybody else seen more damning emails?
The problem with Wikileaks' searchable database is you gotta know what you're looking for to search for it.
P.S. If Wikileaks wanted to have the biggest impact, they would have dumped this information today rather than Friday. It would have overshadowed the convention itself, and the delegate protests against Schultz would have been more dramatic. You only release big news on Fridays if you want the media to ignore it--everybody knows that.
If Wikileaks wanted to have the biggest impact, they would have dumped this information today rather than Friday.
This.
Another Hillary mole, apparently.
Either that or maybe they just didn't want to be scooped by someone else.
Or maybe they wanted to do it quick and keep the Kremlin happy.
Everything i've seen is small-ball
Nick just said its more about "who is documented in the leaks" rather than what's actually in the material. Which i think is how the media likes to play it. "oooh, jake tapper." Non-news about bold-type names
if there's any upside to this election its the near-ubiquitous awareness that the media is constantly, actively trying to influence perceptions. the WaPo has been reduced to "how racist is Trump's racism"-editorials every single day.
Those DNC morons were insulting big donors too, which is pretty amazing.
Life imitates Veep.
Matt = ""Wants to drink in a rain of booze""
I think its time to admit you might have a problem.
With his rain collector?
It's hotter than monkey sex out there, so I hope he stays hydrated.
Sex with monkeys? Dammit, Crusty, there's no time!
Wasserman-Shultz is working for the Hillary campaign now?
How fucking tone deaf can they be?
Apparently she was working for it before too.
It si astounding how tome deaf and just blatant they are.
It's more like "How fucking FYTW can they be?".
They're not even trying to pretend they are not corrupt. The overt displays keep the peons in their place.
Barf.
Every time I accidentally heard one of the speeces from the R convention, I wanted to stick hot knitting needles in my ears. If I hear anything from the D convention, I probably will.
