41 Dead, 200+ Injured in Turkey Terrorist Attack, ISIS Suspected
Islamic State has not officially claimed responsibility.

The death toll in yesterday's attack on the Ataturk international airport in Istanbul has risen to 41, with more than 200 people injured. At least 10 foreigners were killed, but as of yet no Americans were identified among the fatalities. Three suicide bombers attacked the airport, beginning outside the security perimeter, opening fire on the crowd before blowing themselves up,
The Turkish government declared Wednesday a day of national mourning. It is the deadliest attack since last October's bombing of a peace rally in Ankara. The government blamed the Islamic State (ISIS) for both, but the terror group has not taken responsibility for either yet. ISIS generally claims responsibility for terror attacks relatively quickly.
President Barack Obama called Turkey President Recep Erdogan, telling him he "strongly condemned" the terrorist attack. Meanwhile, Secretary of State John Kerry argued that the attack was evidence that ISIS was getting "desperate." House Homeland Security Chair Mike McCaul (R-Tex.) said that assessment "defies reality." Kerry made a similar argument in March, saying the ISIS attack in Brussels signaled that the would-be caliphate was losing its "fantasy" of territorial sovereignty in the Middle East. Similar arguments were also deployed after the ISIS attack on Paris last November, which came just a day after Obama insisted ISIS was contained, something supporters of the administration did not believe Paris changed.
The Ataturk airport re-opened within 12 hours of the attack.

My employer basically stopped using THY (Turkish state airline) because of this. Which is exactly what ISIS wanted.
Sad, but prudent.
T, if you can, I'd like your take on who bombed that peace rally.
No idea. I don't follow Turkish news anymore.
Turkey, being a fascist country, has a long history of political violence. It got so bad in the 70's with leftists and rightists killing each other and anyone who got in their way, that my family fled to the U.S (my dad, fortunately, survived the serious assassination attempt targeting him). Yep, I'm a non-economic refugee from a primarily muslim country - luckily I was one with an American passport. 🙂
The kurds seem to limit themselves to only government targets. They don't want to alienate the broad mass of the Turkish people. ISIS is trying to isolate Turkey from the west, and forment instability. I think they reason, correctly, that this will draw the US into the conflict (remember they believe God will make them victorious over the US should their armies meet in pitched battle). They could well be behind it.
There are still leftists who aren't above the occasional terror attack. They tend to be anti-american but secular. They are more like the Red Faction than anything in the middle east. I doubt they'd be behind it; I think they try to kill to occasional U.S. serviceman or tourist. Suicide bombings are not really their style (atheists don't believe in an afterlife, I guess 🙂 ).
I don't put attacks past the government either. Remember, Turkey is fascist, and the state does use violence, including paramilitary death squads like the one that tried to kill my dad to go after the opposition.
(remember they believe God will make them victorious over the US should their armies meet in pitched battle)
This might be the dumbest of all the dumb beliefs held by radical Islamists.

BURN THE WITCH!
Some of them, I assume, are good people.
none are good, they hide their warriors and give them aid!!!
Started working at home! It is by far the best job I have ever had. I just recently purchased a Brand new BMW since getting a check for $25470 this 8-week past. I began this 6 months ago and I am now bringing home at least $95 dollar per hour.
I work through this Website. Go here____________ http://www.earnmore9.com
My best friend's ex-wife makes $95/hr on the laptop. She has been unemployed for six months but last month her income with big fat bonus was over $14000 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Just try it out on the following website...

John Kerry, the best we can do.
I'd hate to see what they would do if they were "complacent"...
It's how you know we're winning.

Until Brexit reignited their dream of national sovereignty.
Gee, it's almost like the security line itself is a nice, big easily attackable "soft target." Go figure. I'm actually shocked it's taken the shitheads this long to figure that out. I knew terrorists weren't exactly the brightest bulbs on the tree but still.

Its probably the best target at any airport or other facility. Where else are you going to find that many people packed together?
I suppose that Obama will give Turkey a stern lecture on how they need to be more inclusive of LGBT citizens, or something like that...and that nobody should have guns with lots of big clips in them.
This violence is obviously due to the rhetoric of Christian Republicans and Donald Trump.
And NRA members... never forget those evil NRA members!
Looks like global warming strikes again...
Another apology tour. It's all our fault.

Is it me, or are people spelling "unemployed" differently these days?
I'm cracking up at "feminist" becoming a profession.
That's why equality will never be achieved, no matter how good women have it over men.
maybe this will make erdogan think twice before continuing to think of jihadis as useful and charging full steam ahead to islamist dictatorship.. and maybe bring back some of the dying secularism..
Are you fucking kidding me?!?
Erdogan doesn't care. If he cared he would be smashing ISIS and trying to resolve the issues with ethnic minorities. Instead he is focused on keeping power, keeping the graft going (the corruption is so pervasive that I expect that Hillary Clinton has an envious orgasm whenever she reads a CIA report on what's going on in Turkey), and pandering to his islamist base.
The guy has shown he really doesn't care if innocent people are getting stuffed in body bags.
Yeah, not to get too conspiracy theory, but phil giraldi, form CIA station chief of Istanbul, has said publically his contacts in Turkey have informed him that a couple of the PKK bombings (he said the specific ones, but I can't remember now) have actually been Turkish intelligence..
Erdogan wants ISIS to bleed the Kurds.
I suspect he's also fine with the Assad/Russian strategy of clearing the field in Syria of everyone but ISIS, so that the West is forced to support Assad in his war against ISIS.
One of the many foreign policy atrocities of this administration is its refusal to support the Kurds in Syria and Iraq.
Erdogan's highest priority has been overthrowing assad and preventing an independent Kurdistan..
To the extent that the Turks want to align themselves with Europe, it seems like it would be obvious that the Kurds should at least unofficially align themselves with Russia, with the implicit understanding that Russia and Kurdistan will coordinate oil policy. The US is worthless as an ally, so that's out.

Now that the Water Walker has "strongly condemned" the act I'm sure the problem is solved.
It'st not as effective without angry letters and calls for "love and unity".
You forgot "compassion."
I really don't get what Daesh is trying to accomplish by attacking the Turks. Do they want Syria and Iraq back under the Ottoman yoke?

ISIS wont claim responsibility, why would they bite the hand that feeds it?
