Brickbat: Not So Secret

Forty-one agents of the Secret Service have been disciplined for their roles in leaking information from the personnel file of Rep. Jason Chaffetz in an attempt to embarrass him. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says the discipline meted out ranged from letters of reprimand to suspension without pay for up to 45 days.

You can totally trust all your private data in the hands of government workers.
You talk as if you have something to hide...
I know you're snarking. But my serious response to that bullshit argument is "I may have nothing to hide, but that doesn't mean they have the right to look."
are your papers in order?
exactly
PAPERZ PLEEZE!
Leaking personal information of a boss, co worker or customer in order to to smear their reputation when done in the private sector? A little more permanent than 45 days unpaid suspension I'm thinking.
Yeah, but CEOs make, like, a billion times more than workers do!
You can't just FIRE the King's Men! That's his privilege!

Note that it's 41 agents, and "up to" 45 days unpaid leave.
One guy gets 45 days, the rest get paid vacations and hookers.
Nice catch. *Zero* is "up to" 45.
If this is the worst punishment they receive for leaking a congressman's info, guess what would happen if they leaked Joe Sixpack's info. I wish Tony would come back and tell us about how accountable government is.
I imagine Tony like the ever incompetent Inspector Clouseau, taking on one silly disguise after another. He's around, I'm sure.

*and* having their personnel files published, right? RIGHT?!
Well fuck Jason Chaffetz, that statist pig deserves getting a taste of his own medicine. When the good citizens of DC voted for marijuana reforms and their mayor decided to listen to them and work to enact the laws he threatened her with imprisonment.
just political theater...no politicians were harmed during the filming of this staged spat
While I agree that Mr. Chaffetz is a less than stellar human being, the SS action was inappropriate regardless of who they were smearing.
Much like the IRS scandal, this is treason.
It's a fundamental subversion of representative government, for government agents to illegally go after one of the guys who is supposed to be the people's representative to oversee them, and is criticizing them.
That'll be the day.
"Seriously, Special Agent Batguano, we're charging you with *treason*."
this is treason
Hardly. It is an offense that should be punished by immediate termination and a permanent ban on government employment, and for which Chaffetz almost certainly has civil claim to tort and/or breach of privacy.
But does it give aid and comfort to the enemy?
But how does it give aid and comfort to the enemy?
Tell me who sent the goons to leak his files, and I might be able to answer that.
I guess the SS doesn't like to have their cage rattled...

And that's how you get a scandal free administration.
Forty-one???
That isn't a discipline concern: that is a conspiracy. A lot of people should be going to prison.
Can you file a RICO suit against gov't employees? lol
