Friday A/V Club: G.I. Joe's Guide to Monetary Policy
If you want to learn economics from a TV cartoon, you're better off watching South Park.
That time Cobra Commander decided to combine terrorism with deflation:
That's from a 1985 G.I. Joe episode called "Money to Burn." The villain's plan is foiled when everyone ignores his offer, realizing that they're better off holding onto their valuables, bartering for their immediate needs, and allowing a new medium of exchange to emerg—
Just kidding! It's foiled when the government blows stuff up. For those of you who'd like to experience the full episode, in all its ideologically rich glory, it's embedded below:

This is the greatest post in Reason history.
Has the Santorum thread with his crying daughter been thrown down the memory hole?
Long long ago.

Thirded !!! =D
"Did all your cash just do the big flash?"
"I think you're flying without a shoe."
Or as they used to say, "He's a bit light in his loafers."
And knowing is half the battle!
GI Joe and He-Man on USA Network Cartoon Express after coming home from school in the mid-1980s. I miss it so.
I masturbated to She-ra.
The funny thing about Cobra was that they had fantastic logistics and R&D capacity, but piss-poor stategic planning.
I'll be damned; it's reverse Block Yomomma.
You're gonna ride that retarded pony into the ground, aren't you? I have to admit, your tenacity is sort of impressive.
Only for about 7.8 more months (assuming of course that he actually leaves office voluntarily).
Dyke 'Em, is nothing if not consistent, Clitizen Sex.
Does that make evil capitalist America GI Joe, or Cobra?
Well... we have excellent logistics and R&D capabilities, but piss poor stategic planning... so Cobra.
That is horribly unsocialist of him to ask them to garden. The state owns the means of production.
The real issue is G.I. Joe was engaging in illegal gambling.
With piles of hundreds if I'm not mistaken. How much are these guys paid?
Asset forfeiture
Well, freedom isn't free you know...
HAIL COBRA!
Hail Cobra!
It's as if the scriptwriter didn't know how to respond to his libertarian brother-in-law at Thanksgiving and ended up looking like an idiot, so he just twisted the arguments a bit and projected them onto Cobra Commander. Who's laughing now, brother-my-parents-always-wanted?
Is it better to be too hot or too cold?
HAIL cobra!
Cobra-La-La-La-La-La!
I think you actually left off 4 "Las"
Cobra hates inflation
Even in that world the Sacajawea dollar would still be hated by all.
Did all your cash, just do The Big Flash?
Aiyyo, dat shit was GOLD!
I can't watch video (tech problem), but from the description here I can tell you that the Ring cycle is a version of such a story?a true one. The Avars in central Europe looted the continent, but because they were only semi-civilized, & had no idea what to do w money, they just hoarded it. This caused a deflationary depression continent-wide. Finally Charlemagne's forces broke the Avars' ring fortress, and Charlemagne distributed the loot widely. The resulting reflation boosted the economy of the entire continent.
The Nibelungenlied is an allegoric version of that hx, cleverly punning the ring-shaped fortress into a jewelry ring. And so on down thru Wagner.
The Bernie Sanders supporters show up at 1:56.
We Want Money! We Want Money! We Want Money!
How did this not become chant of every campaign rally for every politician running for office ever since?
Or did it?
THIS IS F@*%ING AWESOME !!!!
Our Government is COBRA !!!!
