Meet the Hawks for Hillary!
A running list of military interventionists who have declared preference for the long-hated Democrat

With the op-ed declaration in Wednesday's New York Times by former Bush foreign policy hand Eliot A. Cohen that "On foreign policy, Hillary Clinton is far better" than Donald Trump, the list of Hawks for Hillary has officially become too large for handy memorization. So to keep a running tab, as well as highlight some common themes within the genre, here's a handy guide to your conservative (or conservative-friendly) military interventionists who would rather vote for Hillary Clinton than the Republican nominee.
These are by no means the only righties in the #NeverTrump club, as this post of mine from last fall details, and their critiques of the presumptive GOP nominee mirror several of my own. But the rise of this cadre is at least a half-fulfillment of a prediction I made in 2013 and again in 2015: that neocons-for-Hillary would become a thing.
Without further ado, here are some members of Hillary's unusual (if predictable) new fanclub. Please leave other nominees in the comments:

Name: Eliot A. Cohen
Foreign policy resume: Director of the Strategic Studies Program at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, former State Department counselor (2007-2009), co-founder of the Project for the New American Century, member of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, author of the forthcoming book The Big Stick: The Limits of Soft Power and the Necessity of Military Force.
Supported wars in: The world. As in, "World War IV."
Why #NeverTrump: "Trump's temperament, his proclivity for insult and deceit and his advocacy of unpredictability will make him a presidential disaster — especially in the conduct of foreign policy, where clarity and consistency matter."
Declaration of nose-holding: "On foreign policy, Hillary Clinton is far better: She believes in the old consensus and will take tough lines on China and, increasingly, Russia. She does not hesitate to make the case for human rights as a key part of America's foreign policy."
Third-party fantasia: "[M]ost of us hope for a third candidate whose character we can trust, with domestic programs we can support."
Bonus melodrama: "The hour is late, the task is urgent, and the cause is great. Let us hope that some politicians will summon the courage that the country requires, and act."
*

Name: Robert Kagan
Foreign policy resume: Senior Brookings Institution fellow at the Project on International Order and Strategy, member of the Council on Foreign Relations, former foreign policy advisor to presidential candidate John McCain and former Rep. Jack Kemp; co-founder of the Project for the New American Century, former speechwriter for Secretary of State George Schultz, author of The World America Made, The Return of History and the End of Dreams, and Of Paradise and Power: America and Europe in the New World Order.
Supported wars in: Kosovo, Iraq, North Korea (at least in an ideal world), Libya, Syria, the Islamic State.
Why #NeverTrump: "This is how fascism comes to America."
Declaration of nose-holding: "So what to do now? The Republicans' creation will soon be let loose on the land, leaving to others the job the party failed to carry out. For this former Republican, and perhaps for others, the only choice will be to vote for Hillary Clinton. The party cannot be saved, but the country still can be."
Learning to love Big Brother: "There are those who merely hope to survive. Their consciences won't let them curry favor so shamelessly, so they mumble their pledges of support, like the victims in Stalin's show trials, perhaps not realizing that the leader and his followers will get them in the end anyway."
Bonus Greek drama: "When the plague descended on Thebes, Oedipus sent his brother-in-law to the Delphic oracle to discover the cause. Little did he realize that the crime for which Thebes was being punished was his own. Today's Republican Party is our Oedipus."
*

Name: Bret Stephens
Foreign policy resume: Foreign affairs columnist and deputy editorial page editor of the Wall Street Journal, former editor in chief of the Jerusalem Post, author of America in Retreat: The New Isolationism and the Coming Global Disorder.
Supported wars in: Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria.
Why #NeverTrump: "Trumpism isn't just a triumph of marketing or the excrescence of a personality cult. It is a regression to the conservatism of blood and soil, of ethnic polarization and bullying nationalism. Modern conservatives sought to bury this rubbish with a politics that strikes a balance between respect for tradition and faith in the dynamic and culture-shifting possibilities of open markets. When that balance collapses—under a Republican president, no less—it may never again be restored, at least in our lifetimes."
Declaration of nose-holding: "The best hope for what's left of a serious conservative movement in America is the election in November of a Democratic president, held in check by a Republican Congress."
The Obama parallel: "One man wants to shrink America's role in the world for the sake of a bigger state; the other man for the sake of shrinking the debt. In either case, the prescription is to put America in retreat."
Bonus self-reflection: "It would be terrible to think that the left was right about the right all these years."
*

Name: Max Boot
Foreign policy resume: Military historian, Jeane J. Kirkpatrick senior fellow in National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, foreign policy advisor to the John McCain presidential campaign, author of The Savage Wars of Peace: Small Wars and the Rise of American Power.
Supported wars in: Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Libya, Syria.
Why #NeverTrump: "Far from strengthening America, he is emerging as the number one threat to American security. Yes, that's right — a bigger threat than ISIS, North Korea, Russia, China, Iran, or all the rest. That may sound like hyperbole, but I firmly believe it to be the case. The possibility of Trump — a man who knows no more about national security than Kim Kardashian does — taking control of the nuclear codes is simply terrifying."
Declaration of nose-holding: "Hillary Clinton is a centrist Democrat who is more hawkish than President Obama and far more principled and knowledgeable about foreign affairs than Trump, who is too unstable and erratic to be entrusted with the nuclear triad he has never heard of. Even in his prepared foreign policy speech couldn't pronounce 'Tanzania.' For all her shortcomings (and there are many), Clinton would be far preferable to Trump."
Third-party fantasia: "Perhaps a third party will arise as a vehicle for the 37% of conservatives who said in a recent poll that they have an unfavorable opinion of Trump. I would support it, because a third-party candidate could take away votes from Trump and make clear that he is not an authentic voice of conservatism."
Bonus WTFery: "I would sooner vote for Josef Stalin than I would vote for Donald Trump."
*
Name: Mark Salter
Foreign policy resume: Longtime speechwriter for, co-author with, and alter-ego of Sen. John McCain. Former aide to Jeane Kirkpatrick.
Supported wars in: It's hard to know where McCain ends and Salter begins, but the latter contributed to the former's Teddy Roosevelt fetish and infamous "rogue-state rollback" speech/doctrine, so.
Why #NeverTrump: "Nothing anyone could reveal about Trump could get me to change my opinion that he's an asshole….a cartoon villain, a fake, a cheat, a liar, a creep, a bullying, bragging, bullshitting, blowhard kind of asshole….There have been lots of candidates in the past I've disagreed with, even loathed. There's only one I've wanted to punch in the face."
Declaration of nose-holding: "I'm sure 10 minutes into Hillary Clinton's inaugural address I'll sort of be disappointed….[But] her foreign policy would probably be a modest to maybe substantial improvement over the incumbent…. I've never voted for a Democrat for president in my life. But she is the more conservative choice and the least reckless one."
Third-party fantasia: "It's possible that as much as a third of Republicans won't vote for him, especially if a conservative alternative runs independently."
Bonus insults from Trumpworld: "Because I professed dislike for my party's de facto nominee, I've been called a 'bitch' and a 'cuck,' whatever the hell that is. I was dismissed by another social media wit as one of the idiots who 'lost to the negro in 2008.' When I criticized another Republican candidate, I was labeled 'a corrupt cartel pig,' not by an overzealous supporter, but by his official spokesman."

"When the plague descended on Thebes, Oedipus sent his brother-in-law to the Delphic oracle to discover the cause. Little did he realize that the crime for which Thebes was being punished was his own. Today's Republican Party is our Oedipus."
Winston hardest hit.
Winston's mom: the gift that keeps giving.
...chlamydia.
Stop, stop! He's already dead.
Bonus WTFery: "I would sooner vote for Josef Stalin than I would vote for Donald Trump."
Uhm, you know who else would sooner vote for Josef Stalin, and he's running for president, right the fuck now?
I'm guessing the sheer buffoonery of that statement went right over the guy's head. And he's the type individual considered as in-the-know.
how exactly is she far better? The woman broke Libya, was SoS when ISIS rose from the desert sands, had that ridiculous re-set button photo op with the Russians, and on and on and on. Even her own campaign site knows she sucks because it lists "miles flown" as an accomplishment.
Well how many miles have you flown?
enough to neither break Libya nor hold a photo op that makes me look stupid. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently, so there's that.
some of us don't have to fly miles to fuck things up.
Pssst...Hey buddy, over here...ssshhhhhh....ok, I'm going to whisper this in your ear, ready? The name of the game is to propagate more wars and create new enemies, even if the CIA has to invent them, NOT to clean messes up or mind our own business. You just have to ask yourself who Hillary is better FOR.
So, unless it was omitted in Wikipedia, not one of these guys spent a day in the actual military.
I'm sure they all had Top-Men deferrals.
I'm not worried about draft-dodging - most them are way too young for that anyhow. It is the fact they want other people to fight their forever-wars. They might be a bit more tolerable if they had a first-hand view of what they were advocating.
I think those days are over. Barring a great war with a charismatic general leading us to victory, I really doubt our all-volunteer force is producing any more Presidents.
Can they at least produce military advisers who know what the fuck they are talking about?
They're all members of the elite 101st Chairborne Division!
Y'know, I didn't realize until now that there was anyone out there who I would like to see the 'cuck' insult applied to -- but it seems that we have five such gentlemen. Wonderful.
They are useless neo-conservative intellectuals.
In their cases, "cuck" is pretty accurate. in an earlier age, they would have been advising kings and khans - as court eunuchs.
Hawkish interventionists? Your weekly correspondent Harsanyi can't be far behind, can he?
Well, SOMEBODY had to play white knight for Herself around here, i guess. Here's a hint, Jack - when she said she'd lay eggs inside you last, she lied.
This is shocking, shocking I tell you!
That was great. One middling idea to clear up the Neocon problem would be to charter a plane, deposit all the name-brand Neocons inside it, strap parachutes on them and fly them over Bagdhad, and then: out they go! They could be given guns to shoot at the terrorists: Show us how it's really done! With their service, they could absolve themselves of the criticism that they never actualy fight in the wars they've demanded (probably just a coincidence, a one in quadrillion type of coincidence.)
Their outfit could even get a cool film made about them, titled something like 'The Expendables, Part Who Cares.'
The possibility of Trump ? a man who knows no more about national security than Kim Kardashian does ? taking control of the nuclear codes is simply terrifying."
they said the same thing about Reagan and he actually ended the cold war. I don't expect the same level from Trump but I don't expect him to be worse than Hillary maybe even better.
almost all Jewish Zionists who figure these wars benefit Israel per the Oded Yinon plan - but let me guess, it is "hate" to speak the truth of the matter?
No, no it isn't - and the Jewishness of the neocon movement is unquestionable, notwithstanding the term's conflation with 'militarism' generally.
overview of the neocon movement:

years of militarist arguments from Jewish Zionist writers from Oded Yinon to PNAC - note the ways in which ISIS magically has done much of the heavy lifting:

also note the way in which the US plainly did not really attack isis:
In 1982, as the Likud Party (which is to say, the institutional incarnation of the Revisionist Zionist belief, first articulated by Jabotinsky in the "Iron Wall" that the only way to deal with "the Arabs" in and around Israel was through unrelenting force and the inducement of cultural fragmentation) was consolidating its hold on the foreign policy establishment of Israel, a journalist named Oded Yinon, who had formerly worked at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, published an article in which he outlined the strategic approach his country needed to take in the coming years." ...

"You see, the US strategic goal in Syria is not as your faithful mainstream media servants (led by that redoubtable channeler of Neo-Con smokescreens at the NYT Michael Gordon) might have you believe to save the Syrian people from the ravages of the long-standing Assad dictatorship, but rather to heighten the level of internecine conflict in that country to the point where it will not be able to serve as a bulwark against Israeli regional hegemony for at least another generation.

RE: Meet the Hawks for Hillary!
That's up there with "jews for Hitler" and "capitalists for Marx."
No comedian is clever enough to make this shit up.
Another question might be, can you find any neo-cons, hawks, or military interventionists who would _not_ go for Hillary. As people have been saying, we can't have Trump's finger on the nuclear trigger. So now it's a choice between What-difference-does-it-make? Clinton and We'll-waterboard-'em-and-then-some Trump. Great options.
The fact is, the national security state does what it wants, no matter who is in the White House. We saw that in the transition from Bush to Obama. Media want to pretend the president makes a difference, but if you pay attention you see it doesn't make any difference at all.
HMMM - Need more WAR - Hawks for Clinton!!!
Well, yeah, she's not a stooge for Putin
If your goal is widespread foreign intervention, Hillary is your gal.
I don't think Kagan's suits fit him anymore, maybe too many steaks, not enough situps. That Michelin Man physique might be keeping him from enlisting...These days he's all The Moobs of War. Good thing he has so much self-esteem.

Ugh. Euthanize.
Welch, I am very alarmed. Out of all the neocons out there, you chose to pick on (((Eliot A. Cohen))), (((Robert Kagan))), (((Bret Stephens))) and (((Max Boot))) instead of the numerous gentile neocons available. An independent observer might get the impression that you are more concerned with picking on the jews rather than the neocons as a group and you targeting a group that's 4 out of 5 jewish really reinforces that worry. We really do not want to give nourishment to insane theories about jewish organizations influencing US policies.

Any tool that has "Council on Foreign Relations" in their resume can't be taken seriously, or "The Project for a New American Century". I like how one of these fail clown idiots called Trump a "fascist" (I agree with him) however, maybe this "hawk" should look in the mirror. In fact, the article should be re titled "Chicken Hawks for Hiltlery" because I bet you none of these arm chair, war mongers ever served in one branch of the military. These "endorsements" are jokes, endorsements from people who helped plan, execute and screw up two major wars where people got needlessly killed and all their predictions of quick success turned out to be wrong, just like Hitlery.
C'mon Salter, don't pretend you don't know what a "cuck" is. You know that little thing you do with Mandingo and your wife right? Clearly the insults thrown at Salter by Milo Yiannopolous have stuck to his fragile little feelings like Gorilla Glue.
