Harvard Will Punish Students Who Join Fraternities Because They're 'Privileged'
Free association is a liberal value, but not at Harvard.

Harvard University President Drew Faust has made the shameful decision to punish students who want to join male-only and female-only clubs.
Beginning with the class of 2021, all students who join single-sex finals clubs—Harvard's unofficial version of fraternities and sororities—will be ineligible for the Rhodes and Marshall scholarships. They will also be prohibited from holding leadership positions in official campus organizations, and on sports teams.
Faust framed the decision as a necessary step to combat "forms of privilege and exclusion at odds with our deepest values."
"The College cannot ignore these organizations if it is to advance our shared commitment to broadening opportunity and making Harvard a campus for all of its students," she said, according to The Harvard Crimson.
The decision to go after the finals clubs is partly a response to Harvard's sexual assault task force, which labelled the organizations a threat to public safety—even though the overwhelming majority of reported rapes at Harvard took place in the dormitories.
Dean Rakesh Khurana, who recommended punitive measures against single-sex clubs, suggested that the new policy could be relaxed if the clubs start admitting members of both genders. That's a bit confusing, though, if the stated goal is to reduce sexual assault at club activities: are co-ed fraternities more or less likely than single-sex clubs to be breeding grounds for rape?
Reading between the lines, it seems like "reducing sexual assault" is actually just an excuse for Harvard to take action against groups it doesn't like—for reasons that are implicitly political.
"[The] unrecognized single-gender social organizations have lagged behind in ways that are untenable in the 21st century," Khurana told The Crimson.
That's it: Harvard's leadership doesn't think the clubs are progressive enough. It's decision to bring them to heel, however, is stridently anti-liberal. It violates students' free association rights and creates an affiliations litmus test for participation in campus life. It punishes students for organizing themselves into groups that share common interests.
"Outrageously, Harvard has decided that 2016 is the right time to revive the blacklist," said Robert Shibley, executive director of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), in a statement. "This year's undesirables are members of off-campus clubs that don't match Harvard's political preferences. In the 1950s, perhaps Communists would have been excluded. I had hoped that universities were past the point of asking people, 'Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of a group we don't like?' Sadly, they are not."
It's also stunningly impractical. Harvard's unofficial clubs are, well, unofficial. They don't need to keep members' lists. Many of them are quite private.
The administration now has the difficult and Orwellian task of creating a committee that will enforce the new policy. To be effective, it will have to investigate students it suspects of joining disfavored secret clubs.
Harvard is a private organization, and is entitled to place as many ridiculous limitations on students' lives as it wants. But it doesn't get to discriminate against students who join finals clubs while simultaneously touting itself as an institution that respects liberal values. There's nothing liberal about discouraging free association.

Can we find some to buy Harvard for about 20 trillion?
Let me check my wallet.
I guess you really aren't an economist.
At the University of Zimbabwe, 20 trillion won't buy an economics textbook
My cousin, the King of Zimbabwe, has 20 trillion but needs your help to get it
How much can we get harvesting the organs of the progtard staff and administrators? I suggest a clean sweep of the chest cavities for all of them.
my co-worker's sister-in-law makes $66 /hour on the computer . She has been without a job for nine months but last month her income was $18212 just working on the computer for a few hours. browse around this site+++++++++++ http://www.elite36.com
willing to donate all 23 dollars in my bank account to the cause.
Harvard University President Drew Faust has made the shameful decision
Perhaps someone could make a Faustian bargain with her.
We had to pick between stories about the devil, and I drew Faust.
I doubt Goethe is even taught @ Harvard anymore.
You lose- but don't try quoting Nietzsche at a Shop Club dinner.
Beginning with the class of 2021, all students who join single-sex finals clubs?Harvard's unofficial version of fraternities and sororities?will be ineligible for the Rhodes and Marshall scholarships.
So if I read not only between the lines, but the lines themselves, it sounds like Harvard has taken the official position that you can be denied rights or privileges based on how one identifies oneself.
Can Harvard even set eligibility criteria for those scholarships?
Yep. This isn't a violation of people's rights.
This is just the stupid people running a formerly great institution making an magnificently and hilariously stupid decision.
Those scholarship programs don't belong to Harvard. They are run by someone else. So how does Harvard get to say who is eligible and who isn't?
I believe there is a nominating process involving the university.
I think you're right.
Sounds like they're about to get roflstomped by FIRE.
They're worse than stupid; some of them went to Bryn Mawr and Cornell.
privileges. Definitely privileges.
Faust reflects:
"I've studied now Philosophy
And Jurisprudence, Medicine,?
And even, alas! Theology,?
From end to end, with labor keen;
And here, poor fool! with all my lore
I stand, no wiser than before..."
I just made a private club right now and didn't tell anybody. It's all-male. Am I violating some policy if I don't voluntarily report to re-education camp now?
An impressive collection of euphemisms, E.
I was going to say there is only one member in this club, But that seemed like too much.
And if it were an all-female club, there would be no members.
Funny that the all female clubs aren't being blacklisted...
I think they are:
"decision to punish students who want to join male-only and female-only clubs."
+1 Super Exclusivity!
+1 dog whistle.
Was there an initiation?
No but he sure got "hazed"
Well, the bureaucrats have to justify their existence somehow. Surely fostering critical thinking and independent thought is next on the list...
surely...
This is the same organization that employs Dr Russell Seitz (motto: "Since I find smart people incomprehensible, if I write incomprehensibly then I will be smart", Naomi Oreskes (motto: I don't need evidence; if I believe it's true, then it's true), and of course formerly Elizabeth Warren (motto: "My great granddad carried a gun and drove native americans on the Trail of Tears, making me an oppressed Cherokee!").
At this point I expect the faculty meetings' character is more like that of Monty Python's Upper Class Twit of the Year competition than anything sane or rational.
Seitz posts comments here occasionally. Usually as "Russell". They don't make much sense.
His latest handle is Entelechy. I love that handle; it's both megalomaniacal and obscure. It fits the over-educated man-child's persona perfectly.
Good to know.
My sister works at Harvard, directly reporting to a dean. During one of her reviews she was told "We don't require "A"-level work here."
I wish I was making that up. Harvard's prestige is from marketing, not from output quality. And they are PROUD of it!
Their prestige is also in connections: if you graduate from there, you're likely to make your way into some portion of the elite.
And that's the real value in an Ivy League education. It introduces you to the other parasites, so you can join the parasite class and steal from those who aren't part of your clique.
Not surprising, considering the quality of intellectual they've been crapping out for the last couple of decades.
When the most commonly awarded grade at your school is "A", it means your curriculum probably sucks and you're not evaluating talent.
Mansfield.
The evaluation happens during the admission process. If you can get by with only taking in top 10% folks, that's what you'll spit out on the other side. Seed in a couple of connected or moneyed folks and you have a nice recipe for success. The top level talent hooks up with the connected and moneyed and then the magic happens.
What is with the exclusion of Henry Louis Gates, Tarran?
You are going to get beer summitted.
Tarran would make a good addition to Harvard's history reframing crew.
'Free association is a liberal value'
It is?
Then why do liberal democrats want to force a Jewish deli to bake a nazi wedding cake?
The worst thing is, they want a stripper dressed like Ernst Rohm to jump out of the cake.
I can see a Jewish deli owner agreeing to this, so long as the Ernst Rhoem stripper gets in the cake before they start baking.
I'd can't believe you'd take a perfectly good nazi joke and make it tasteless!
As long as the perfectly good Nazi cake isn't tasteless too.
Until it's applied to something they happen to disapprove of. They are a lot like conservatives in that regard.
Funny, that.
Using an archaic definition of the term is only going to confuse everyone.
You're mixing your memes - it's Gary Johnson who wants to forces a Jewish deli to bake a Nazi wedding cake. Liberal Democrats want to force Christians to bake gay wedding cakes.
Liberty wins!
Have you ever been to a wedding that weren't totally gay?
And by gay you mean stupidly extravagant?
I have never attended a straight wedding.
Free association is a liberal value. So quit calling them liberals. They're progressives, leftists, socialists, pinkos, whatever. Their other monikers are much more accurate than liberal.
Drew is a chick name now...
STOP TAKING OUR NAMES! IT'S GENDER APPROPRIATION!
She can.
IT'S WRONG! AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO HER!
Go ahead, name your son Jennifer!
I named him Sue.
If I have a son, I'm gonna name him...anything but Sue.
I haven't heard this in a long time.
Oh sure, determine his career, Tiger Dad!
Gender appropriation. Excellent thought.
Why is anyone surprised that Harvard is against freedom of association? Look at all the public officials that matriculated there.
The neat thing about people who went to Harvard is, it rarely takes a full minute until they've told you they went to Harvard.
My brother-in-law and I used to bet how long it would take our wives' father to bring up Harvard when he met someone new. I dont think he ever lasted more than four minutes.
He was actually pretty restrained compared to most Harvard alumni I've known.
I worked with a guy who went to Harvard, in the computer industry. He didn't mention as a habit, I only found out after I'd known him for about a year.
-jcr
How do you know? Many people who went to Harvard may never tell you.
"Harvard Cock" - Penn Jillette tells it like it is... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdymZtHO2cA
Slipped in that euphemism, did you?
"The College cannot ignore these organizations if it is to advance our shared commitment to broadening opportunity and making Harvard a campus for all of its students."
...said the president of one of the most exclusive institutions in the world.
Well yeah! Of course, this really just means that only the upper class 'rich' can join these 'private' clubs since something tells me they don't really need a scholarship to attend Harvard.
So really, this strikes me as an exercise to make sure that the 'poor' Harvard kids know their place. Specifically, their place is far, far away from the clubs where I'm sure Harvard graduates make their real life-long social connections that they can then leverage for long-term mutual profit.
No, no, no - it's the quality of the education that makes them Top Men.
And they broaden opportunity by making some of their students ineligible for scholarships.
If you think about it, why does Harvard let any of its students accept the Rhodes scholarship, given the history of the guy who founded it.
Shush!
I never thought about the actual Rhodes before, the founder of Rhodesia... wow... yeah that qualifies as un-PC.
Ever so slightly.
How about Robert Mugabe scholarships paid in trillion-dollar Zimbabwe currency?
Ed Meese approves.
+1 trillion dollar bill
Don't you know the only type of diversity that matters is racial (and religious but only in the case of Islam) diversity?
And sexual. Don't forget the LGBTWRASUPODEFN folks. How diverse can you get, with your whole identity wrapped in a single letter?
President of Harvard slams privilege!
No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?
I've never donated any money to Harvard, and they won't stop making me proud of that fact.
Me neither.
These fuckers actually call me from time to time. I'll add this to the list of reasons why they aren't getting a penny from me.
Maybe a 20% tax on their endowment fund would get their attention.
"They should pay their fair share" = progderp's creed at the moment after all!
"The decision to go after the finals clubs is partly a response to Harvard's sexual assault task force, which labelled the organizations a threat to public safety?even though the overwhelming majority of reported rapes at Harvard took place in the dormitories. "
Please ban single-sex sports teams also. I just want to see what happens when they go full retard, so I can get some good laughs.
Ban single sex humans.
Since when?
In my experience, when a liberal Democrat hears "free association" what they hear is "I want to bring back segregation."
Did we all forget just last summer when Rand dropped the phrase "freedom of association" and suddenly had pictures of him everywhere dressed up as Rutherford Hayes with headlines saying "Rand Paul Wants to Bring Us Back to the Reconstruction?"
Quit calling them liberals. They're anything but, and they've sullied the term.
Amusing, that this can't threaten federal funding. Title IX - its corruption and corrupting influence - indeed rules supreme. Odd, that it hasn't been conceived that denying men the opportunity to associate only with men, and women the opportunity to associate only with women is a form of sex discrimination. It allows a woman to associate only with men, but prohibits a man from doing so (and vice versa). -- I wonder when the sports logic of IX while be transported to other fields: mandatory quotas/parity of female membership numbers.
Further, even assuming that law can create the fiction that men and women are the same in every respect, it can't yet deny heterosexuality (awkward try, though). As long as the law and its deciples haven't managed to make male and female sexuality the same, that dynamic - attraction and desire - will be asymmetric: the interaction of heterosexual people activating/increasing certain sex differences. "Authorities" can't objectively determine whether that is better or worse than the differences in/between same-sex groups.
So pretty much all comments about the article so far are about the Social Justice agenda being pushed here.
Isn't it more likely that Harvard is going after fraternities and sororities and is just using Social Justice as cover?
Why would it go after them? And why would it be just a cover, when it matches their philosophy and past application of "social justice"?
Why would it go after them?
Did you miss the "They're off-campus organizations therefore administration has no direct authority over them" part?
Good point.
Is there a difference?
Maoist don't want any organization, right down to the nuclear family, to exist if it poses a risk that some people might find a place to explore un-approved thoughts.
Coeducational study group
well if the govt can get away with it...
This is the Harrison Bergeron approach to freedom of association.
Not that I'm a fan of Rick Mercer's Talking to Americans (the usual Canadian pitiful shtick of 'look at how dumb Americans are!') but I remember him asking a professor of political science at Harvard (and please take this for whatever its worth given I have no idea who the professor was) what system of government Canada had to which he could not answer.
I wondered. How can a professor at such an institution not ever come across 'Parliamentary' politics? It made no sense to be that ignorant of, you know, an area one is ostensibly an expert in.
Anyway. Hah-vad. Not impressed what I've seen come out of their ranks in the news in recent years. If they're churning out such meek minds, then there are serious issues at work here.
I think.
What the fuck is Parliamentary? I figured y'all are a bunch of commie pinkos like China and Europe.
I'm not...sure.
But looks at Freedom Index chart and sees Canada ahead of...
I'm founding a new club: The Corrugated Order of the Box. It meets under the Charles Bridge. Fat chicks welcome.

Turns out the least polite and least cogent questioners were the Democrats on the committee.
By day they take away privileges, to make everybody more "equal".
At night they hide under the blanket in fear that their privileges will be the next to go.
So form a male-only finals club for gays and a women-only finals club for lesbians, and watch administration heads explode.
don't these clubs have wealthy alumni? What if they Cut off their charitable contributions in response to this measure? I think that will get Harvard's attention far more quickly than criticism from FIRE.
This is what I keep thinking. This bullshit is going to generate a backlash from hell eventually, it's just a matter of time. Or either it doesn't and as a society we just descend into madness and decline.
Something tells me wealthy Harvard alumns aren't generally the stodgy conservative type.
Universities without huge lists of students to choose from are really feeling it. I can't help but smile when I hear about Mizzou's struggles.
That's it: Harvard's leadership doesn't think the clubs are progressive enough. It's decision to bring them to heel, however, is stridently anti-liberal
Here's a clue. progressive ARE anti-liberal.
Either liberals are progressives or liberalism is dead.
Liberalism isn't dead. They're just called libertarians today. Progs are authoritarian statists. There's nothing liberal about that.
There's nothing liberal about discouraging free association.
See, at the end Robby sort of gets it. Just a little disconnect there.
Yeah, eventually we'll finally reach that level of enlightenment where we realize the liberals themselves switched to the term "progressive" for a reason.
Would give pearl necklace to.
She makes far more money that you do, Crusticles.
I can easily afford the pearl necklace that I would like to give her, Qticles.
Ooh, look at me, I'm lobbing jewelry at college presidents. Lah di fucking dah.
"Lobbing jewelry"
I'm calling it that from now on.
Lobbing, spraying, whatever
That skank? Dude.
This morning I noted the birth of my first grandchild last night. I was in a hurry to get back to the hospital and see her again so I sent the announcement here and took off. I didn't mean to be rude, just figured it would be a minor thing to the people here. A bit ago I sat back down here and the page was still up so I reloaded it to see where the thread had gone.
Thank you all. I am moved by how many congratulations I received. Really. I thank you all sincerely.
Answers:
Soave - I will not misgender her, but she will learn to shoot and fish and hunt.
Lee G - I am absolutely going to do just that.
Almighty - No doubt she will.
No Mad, it really was 34 hours of labor.
RC - Yes, it was a tough go. Really tough. She pulled through like a champ, she and the baby are perfect. No injuries, no defects. Perfectly healthy.
Again, thank you all very much.
Missed that, I was working all day and just now go around to checking the threads here. Congrats! My first grandchild just turned 3 recently.
I guess I should have said congrats old man, or congrats grandpa, but I momentarily forgot to be sarcastic. Recovering now...
Yeah, I got a lot of that this morning.
Thank you Hyperion.
Three? From there to 10 is the best age. Enjoy. Be bad and sneak them off to do fun stuff that horrifies their parents.
The onset of puberty complicates things.
I know all about puberty, ugh. My daughter was a little angel and one morning around the time she was 13, Satan emerged from her room. Thankfully, she regained her soul years later, after the reign of terror.
Likewise, Hyperion. Congratulations to you and yours, Suthen.
Damn, you guyz r old!
But congrats to you both.
I missed the original thread so congratulations Grandpa Suthenboy!
Yeah, congrats.
Grats, Suthen!
They say frats are "at odds with our deepest values"--when did universities get values? I thought you paid them for classes and if you got good grades you got a diploma in something. It is like saying a town has "values"--no it doesn't. The push to indoctrinate students into certain "values" is really sick.
They are attacking frats because boys can't have fun or have a tree house unless the girls are let in, and because they don't control them.
"at odds with our deepest values"
What you read is not what they said. What they mean by 'at odds', 'our' and 'values' is not what you think it is. Proggiespeak is not English as we know it.
'Our' means the cultural marxists, 'at odds' means you are an enemy at war with them, and 'values'...well a hint is that any of these grievance mongering groups always mentions destroying capitalism somewhere in their screed, the individual's blogs always mention something along the lines of noting how many microaggressions they have suffered in the margins of their Marx Engels reader.
These people are a cancer that will have to be excised. They are actively trying to destroy the enlightenment and usher in their version of the brave new world and that shitbird in the whitehouse is right in the middle of it. His reinterpretation of Title IX was calculated to empower the people causing all of this. The list of things he has done to enable this horseshit is endless. Hillary will be no different, she will carry the same torch. Or worse still, Bernie fuckin' Sanders.
The article states that Harvard's policy " violates students' free association rights and creates an affiliations litmus test for participation in campus life." The first part is incorrect. It does not violate their free association rights; rather, it punishes them for exercising them. Any way you look at it, of course, it is an extremely illiberal and paternalistic stance.
Lots of the people who attend Havard are the most chronically privileged people on the planet. Are they trying to atone for that or something? Do they really need to make sure everyone sees the hair shirt?
I don't think it's that. I think that it's just the finality of the years of these universities sliding leftwards that they've finally went full on totalitarian and they hate free speech.
I think you're right about the progression. The underlying idea, I think, is that we should embrace free speech because we can persuade everyone that we're correct. Now years (decades?) later, since we have been unable to persuade them of our viewpoint, they are obviously stupid and/or unredeemable and so we must force them to do the right thing.
All the inbreeding of the elites that go to the ivies has led to what always happens with inbreeding. The current generation is full of "brilliant" kids with 2 digit IQs.
Faust framed the decision as a necessary step to combat "forms of privilege and exclusion at odds with our deepest values." Yes, because going to Harvard in and of itself is not a form of privilege. So, next year Harvard is just going to randomly draw the names of high school seniors from across the world regardless of academic ability to determine who gets in.
You misspelled "family alumni donation amount."
It is to improve the exclusive privilege of the Harvard brand. Faust wants a female student's degree from Harvard to count the same as a male student's degree for the purpose of entering the corporate hierarchy and becoming a CEO. This can't be true if the real pipeline to corporate wealth and power is the exclusive boys clubs, as it is now.
Here, hold this for second.
What would make me OH so happy is if in a few months we saw "Harvard enrollment drops 35%, alumni association donations down xx million dollars"
I've mentioned a few times the last couple of days that I'm reading Ann Coulter's anti-immigration book. The arguments this woman makes are among the dumbest fucking things I've ever heard.
I just read a part today where she said that it isn't true that immigration from India causes smart people to come here because the average IQ of people in India is only 82. It never occurred to her, apparently, that immigration *self selects* for certain people, and that when a country is as far away from the US as India is, immigration will self-select for better educated and richer Indians. This is why Indians in the United States are the richest ethnic group, with median earnings $50,000 higher than the US average.
Surely if you're going to argue about how much immigration from India is helping the US, you should look at the average intelligence of Indians *in America* rather than Indians *in India.* I'm honestly amazed at how stupid she is.
She's writing for the average intelligence of her own readers, which is probably bobbing around 82.
Oh, she then wonders why the US allows there to be more immigrants from India than from Britain, Denmark, Canada, Germany, etc. Again - apparently she never considers the fact that India has a gigantic population (there are 350 million more Indians than Europeans) and is a third world country. As a result, intelligent Indians are going to be more eager to leave India than intelligent Swedes are going to be to leave Sweden since India is a shittier country than Sweden is. Plus, the difference in population means that there are more Indians looking to move to other countries than there are people currently living in Scandinavia.
Maybe that's why we take more Indians than Danes? Ever think of that, Ann?
The smartest ethnic groups in the US tend to be people from third world countries that are very, very far away, such as India, Pakistan, and Nigeria. That's because it's impossible for the poor, badly educated people from those countries to afford to move such a long distance. The average Indian immigrant to the US is therefore likely to be more skilled than the average British immigrant to the US because of self-selection.
Fuckin' Coulter.
I've been working with Indian immigrants for the last 20 years. All of them are very bright. Of course, they're professionals, so I can't speak for all Indians, but... India is a country where there is extreme poverty. In a lot of the country, there is not even a written language. Does she expect someone to score really high on an IQ test when they've never been able to read a book?
Coulter is an idiot. And everything she says is just meant to generate outrage, there's no substance at all to anything she says.
"And everything she says is just meant to generate outrage"
I'd agree with this if the Republican presidential candidate hadn't basically gotten his immigration policy from Adios, America.
But you would.
Battlefield 1, the WW1 entry in the Battlefield franchise, to be released in October.
Have two friends who play BF4 all of the time. They're always trying to get me to play. I'm just not so into pure FPS games, I like RPGS better, or something at least story based.
Same here, but I may give this a look. The war fascinates me, and by the look of it their treatment will be colorful and zany, which is fitting. I mean, FFS, industrialized warfare meets largely agrarian societies? That's good times.
Aside from the trenches and Spanish influenza and the months of shelling, anyway.
Finally, a shooter that deals with World War I.
I can't imagine a WW1 FPS shooter being fun. It's one of the least romantic and horrible wars ever. If it's remotely historically accurate you'll be randomly killed by artillery, gased, mowed down by machine gun fire assaulting in mass through barbed wire, and then bayoneted. You can also participate as horse Calvary in all the above while wearing Naploeonic era attire to get the real feel of 1914.
I suspect the infrastructure of war will be more conspicuous absent. Foxholes, abatises, and trenches will just exist as part of the environment.
Hold on a second,...
We're saying that people (presumably white and male) who join exclusive have a privilege that grants them great powers to cause harm upon others. Yet, the female university president can quite literally cause those individuals harm by removing their ability to attain academic credentials. Do I have that right?
Who has the privilege here?
Who lacks the power to defend themselves?
Who controls the structure that is purposefully designed to do harm?
{Shakes head and walks away. I thought those Harvard types were like smart or some fucking thing.}
Have you met many Harvard types?
I find them to be well educated in their field but only of average intelligence.
Question for all: Who is that woman in the photo? Is that Drew Faust? I would not be a bit surprised if ol' Drew turned out to be a dress-wearing fruit loop.
I have, and they have all been Fucktards IMO, including our own POTUS.
Where's the transgendered outrage at being left out of the triggering male/female only reference?
Dean Rakesh Khurana runs Harvard's department of "sociology". Isn't that what people who can't cut it as genuine scholars do so they can get the sheepskin without doing any serious work?

"The administration now has the difficult and Orwellian task of creating a committee that will enforce the new policy. To be effective, it will have to investigate students it suspects of joining disfavored secret clubs."
There in lies another big reason. Whenever a bureaucrat releases a policy always look at the number of new bureaucrats who will have to be hired to enforce said policy. No doubt they are already scanning the social justice majors to create the task force they will employ to chase down and eliminate the horrors of beer pong, toga parties and nude co-eds. I would also not be surprised if they chase down a million or so in government(taxpayer funded) grants to pay for it.
The easiest way to enforce it is to force the students to swear under oath before a campus police officer that they aren't members of any banned organization. Lying would be perjury and result in expulsion and prosecution by the State Attorney.
Single gender safe spaces are... bad now?
Only if they are not explicitly designated as safe spaces. The why matters.
It used to be that conservatives were good on economic freedom, but bad on personal freedom, while liberals were good on personal freedom, but bad on economic freedom.
Now, we're living in a world where the "conservative" candidate for president is horrible on economic freedom, and the "liberal" universities are horrible on personal freedom.
l would not hire a Harvard graduate to wash my pots. I also would not voluntarily offer my culinary expertise, and cook for them.
Fucking, spoiled, elite, neverdowells.
that is extremely generalizing of you.....i'm pretty sure that you could find at least one well meaning individual in the student body.
I've made $76,000 so far this year working online and I'm a full time student.I'm using an online business opportunity I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it.

The freedom of association has as its obverse the freedom of dissociation. More, the freedom of dissociation is more fundamental and comes first, inasmuch as a dissociation takes only one willing party while an association takes two or more of them.
Besides, aren't the boycotts [aka dissociations] the favorite tool of the "civil rights" crowd? It appears they do not like their own medicine. What is a sauce for a goose is a sauce for a gander.
Exclusion is the new inclusiveness.
Wait, but wouldn't the males be more privileged than females in these co-ed Greek clubs, according to their own asinine "inequality" rules? I thought "separate but equal" was the whole mantra of the SJW's (particularly feminists). Wouldn't co-ed frat/sororities encourage the "rape on campus" faux epidemic? I'm officially confused as shit.
"Free association is a liberal value, but not at Harvard."
correction: Free association is a democratic value, but not at Harvard.
Free association is not a "democratic" value. Democracy is merely a decision making mechanism, it's not a moral or philosophical school of thought. Not to mention the fact that democracy routinely runs roughshod over natural rights like 'free association', among others.

No doubt the next step on the Progressive Five Year Plan for Social Justice will be to demand that students submit lists of their friends to ensure that they hang out with the "proper mix" of people. There will be monitoring of course to make sure nobody is sneaking off to party with white male cis-hetero shitlords.
It's like they're taking the unwritten rules of popularity of high school kids and making them official policy. Weird.

RE: Harvard Will Punish Students Who Join Fraternities Because They're 'Privileged'
Free association is a liberal value, but not at Harvard.
How many times does it have to be said?
Free association is for the elitist ruling turds enslaving us only.
For that matter, freedom is for the elitist ruling turds enslaving us only.
RE: Harvard Will Punish Students Who Join Fraternities Because They're 'Privileged'
I guess that means Harvard students and grads are/weren't "privileged" by being accepted into that Ivy League school.
It all makes sense now.
Harvard will let anyone get into their school now just to show no one will be excluded in their very public school.
Well there's liberal values and then there's "liberal values" and the latter is nothing if not entirely about discouraging free association.
Miami of Ohio, Chicago and many other colleges ban frats and sororities. What's interesting about this is that like the Fed'l govt, she doesn't have the guts to do it.
Wow. You are so wrong about that one...
