U. of Arizona Marginalized Students Demand Trigger Warnings, Censorship, Half a Million Dollars

Mandatory diversity training, cultural sensitivity, identity-specific safe spaces.

The Marginalized Students of the University of Arizona have published their demands: like a lot of student-activists at other colleges, they want mandatory trigger warnings, sanctions for microaggressors, and obligatory cultural sensitivity training. They also want half a million dollars. For diversity.

This group—a veritable coalition of the downtrodden—includes representatives from the Adalberto & Ana Guerrero Center, African American Student Affairs, Asian Pacific Student, Affairs, the LGBTQ Resource Center, Native American Student Affairs, the Women's Resource Center, and other campus organizations. They note that their demands are just that: demands, not requests.

Demands common to all oppressed participants include mandatory trigger warnings, which should be present in all classrooms in order to preempt "potentially problematic material." Alternative assignments must be made available to any and all students who are made unsafe by the regularly scheduled curriculum.

The marginalized also want mandatory cultural sensitivity training for nearly everyone on campus: residence hall staff, members of Greek Life, and even the staff of the student newspaper, The Arizona Daily Wild Cat.

The Provost for Diversity and Inclusion would receive a budget of $500,000 to sponsor new diversity initiatives.

The list of demands also includes specific items from each group. The Latino/Latina student group wants to prohibit Border Patrol recruitment on campus; the Black Lives Matter group wants separate and additional sensitivity training; and the Asian-American students want everyone on campus to recognize that "we're not all the same." The LGBT student-group had a lengthy list of demands including more staff for their center, mandatory preferred pronoun usage in classes, and a redefinition of violence to include "emotional violence."

All groups want their own unique safe space on campus for members of their identity group.

The College Fix attempted to interview a student about the demands: the student replied, "You'll never understand a marginalized student's experience unless you are one, have experienced these things, or surround yourself with other individuals who have."

To recap: members of an organized movement that includes a half dozen activist communities are demanding unlimited funding for their narrow left-wing goals, mandatory re-education of those who disagree with them, and censorship of dissenters. I don't know if these students can properly be described as "marginalized," but if they are, everyone who values free expression at U. of A should hope they remain that way.

  1. “The Marginalized Students of the University of Arizona ” they actually call themselves this??? they completely lack any self awareness. How do people not just laugh in their faces?

    1. In a sane world, they would.

A modern college campus seems to be anything but sane.

      1. On the contrary, college campuses are one of the few remaining havens for sanity in our nation, and that is why we need trigger warnings along with a real crackdown on micro-aggression in these sacred venues. In this regard, all credit is due to specially trained campus officials in New York, who realized that something had to be done to stop the scourge of serious online fraud engaged in by insidious Trolls for the purpose of damaging the reputations of distinguished members of the academic community. In particular, accusations of plagiarism perpetrated through fraudulent “Gmail confessions” containing statements like “if I had given credit to this man, I would have been banned from conferences around the world” are obviously outrageous, even if they are “true”; they twist words to stir up unwanted controversy; they are too deadpan to qualify as “parody,” and they must be suppressed by all necessary means. See the documentation of America’s leading criminal “satire” case at:

        http://raphaelgolbtrial.wordpress.com/

        1. C’mon man – let it go. You’re better than this. Better than them. Get your revenge not by endlessly spamming the same shit over and over across the web but by living well.

          1. Ah, a warrior famed for his iron strength and will in the face of adverse fortune has, at last, joined my campaign against the Trolls who tweet in the “names” of university presidents! See how nobly he remonstrates against the dangers of insidious Internet “satire,” and see how he offers the firmness of the Censor, and not the animal savagery of revenge, to all those who have been threatened by this and other forms of inappropriate trigger-speech and micro-aggression on our college campuses. Yes! We have a right ? a sacred right ? to be protected from the anonymous rabble of the Net who twist words to stir up controversy, and those who forget this right should not be surprised when their own rights are trampled over with big black boots. And let the word go out: we have finally begun to protect ourselves in New York, and we will consolidate, widen, and strengthen our great national fortress following the inauguration in Washington next year. See further documentation of the increasingly perilous problem that confronts us at:

      1. Why are you marginalizing on the left? Everyone knows its only the right that marginalizes

        1. Because these marginalized students have self-identified as being on the left.

      2. Can you do the same for the Indented Student Association and the Header/Footer Club?

    4. All of this just makes me want to strangle them.

  2. Students who inquired about the protestors were told to read the list of demands online and search the “trending” hashtag #MSUA for Marginalized Students of the University of Arizona. While the hashtag was not trending at the time of the protest, the list of demands can be found on the University of Arizona LGBTQ Affairs Facebook page.

    Emphasis added. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!

    1. No wonder it wasn’t trending. . . a google search of the hashtag #MSUA gets the Mongolian State University of Agriculture.

  3. “All groups want their own unique safe cocoon on campus for members of their identity group”

  4. Apparently they think the universities are just like the federal government and can just pull that money out of everyone else’s collective ass.

    1. Haven’t you heard? You just need to take it from the 1%. Their the cause of, and solution to, every problem the Marginalized? face.

      1. And that 1% have infinite resource, of course.

      2. To recap: The 1% are to the Marginalized? what Alcohol is to Homer Simpson. . .

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUVwR0rw5fk

  5. And the Arizona Wildcats are going down in the PAC 12 basketball tourney today. That is all.

    1. I prefer to think of them as being marginalized.

      As LOSERS!

  6. problematic:

A corporate-academic weasel word used mainly by people who sense that something may be oppressive, but don’t want to do any actual thinking about what the problem is or why it exists. Also frequently used in progressive political settings among White People of a Certain Education to avoid using herd-frightening words like “racist” or “sexist.”

    1. Once upon a time, the definition was not so problematic.

  7. What are the chances that this ends up being a net positive as more people start calling for repeal of the CRA?

    1. What’s the Colorado Restaurant Association have to do with it?

      1. They’re the real power behind the Bilderbergs you know.

    1. It took a nationally televised event at the University of Missouri and a demonstration by our Black Student Union to instigate any sort of response to serious issues including but not limited to: a lack of campus wide cultural competency, explicit and implicit racism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, ableism, sexism, and rape culture that run rampant throughout our campus.

      1. I doubt their campus has a lack of rape culture.

      2. What is ‘cultural incompetency’? Incompetence at being cultured?

    2. Correct pronouns to be respected within classroom settings

All restrooms should include small trashcans in all stalls, free tampons, and free menstrual pads

In addition to free condoms, Dental Dams, external and internal condoms, and Pre?exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) must be accessible through Campus Health

Free STI testing at Campus Health

      1. Free tampons in the men’s restroom is a microaggression against my masculinity.

        1. I think we both know that white men are the source of all evil for all those groups. After all, nothing binds together discordant groups like a common enemy right?

      2. Not receiving free stuff is oppressive.

        1. Not giving is “denying access”

    3. Increase in campus wide strategic initiatives addressing mental health

On this one I agree. They obviously need it.

    4. A revision of the University of Arizona Financial Plan to include a general student Emergency Fund that does not get charged to the student’s Bursar’s account

What constitutes an emergency? I’m guessing being triggered qualifies.

    5. Creation of Religious spaces for Traditional Events and Ceremonies specific to student demographics

I’m betting there’s some limits they would put on that one.

      1. Spaces dedicated to and for Native Students to practice Spirituality

        And free peyote!

        1. Like… a reservation?

That and the minority groups at other campuses demanding separate dorms for people of color. These people have no self awareness.

    6. They look pretty happy for being so oppressed.

Or… bear with me here… maybe they just know this is all a big joke.

    7. Their smug smiles make me wish I could give them a one way ticket to Cambodia, the south of Sudan, or some other hellhole.

  8. “the Asian-American students want everyone on campus to recognize that “we’re not all the same.””

Yeah, apparently not all of them are serious and hard-working.

    1. And what better way for them to prove they’re not all the same then jumping on the identity politics bandwagon that groups all Asian-Americans together?

    2. So they aren’t of the human species?

    3. They want everyone to learn about the special brand of Chinese racism.

    4. They should kick all the Japanese out for their imperialism and appropriation of Chinese culture.

  9. You can’t know what it’s like to be black unless you are black and if you can’t know what it’s like then you can’t even talk about it. Just apologize for your privilege then shut the fuck up and hang yourself.

    1. You can’t know what it’s like to be an incredibly handsome 6 foot tall white hetero male without being one. OK I’ll tell you, it’s great!

    2. No, it’s “give me money, *then* hang yourself.”

  10. “Identity-specific safe spaces”

    Would they be separate-but-equal?

    1. How do you create identity-specific safe spaces unless you cater to the stereotypes?

    2. To increase diversity, of course.

    3. Oh, you haven’t heard? Segregation is back in vogue among the progressive left.

      1. So…it’s *back* in vogue on the left, then?

        1. Shucks, never mind, that’s what you said.

  11. I’ll take the half-mill; you can keep the other stuff.

  12. Where’s the University Capitalists demanding that they stop hearing professors talk about “robber barons?”
Surely, someone’s dad works on Wall Street and is offended and made ill by all the Wall Street bashing that goes on.

    1. You know that is fair game, with a big heaping dose of white privilege and exploitation to boot. This marginalized victim deal only works one way.

      1. You mean heap big doses.

Oh, we’re not doing that in this thread?

        1. Are we still doing ‘phrasing’?

    2. Yeah, but that’s okay because it’s “punching up” (the special logic-free loophole available to all SJWs).

  13. “The Asian-American students want everyone on campus to recognize that “we’re not all the same.””

? all the “Asians” grouped themselves together into a coalition in order to insist they not be treated as an undifferentiated mass?

that’s like some Zen ‘forests and trees’ shit right there.

    1. Damn beat me by one minute.

    2. My recollection of college was that the “Asian American” student groups could not get along with each other. The Korean student group hated the Japanese student group which hated the Chinese student group, etc….

      1. Indeed. There is a perceived hierarchy in the Asian world, with the Japanese firmly believing they are atop the food chain. And by the by, I have heard numerous tales of Indians being excluded from Asian clubs and such even though a map clearly puts India in the Asian continent.

        1. When will people learn that all people are equally beneath the white man? (There that ought to piss off some people)

          1. Aren’t they all admitting to it now? They know they’re inferior, hence their need for safe spaces.

    3. Your it’s of the word “Zen” constitutes cultural appropriation, and is problematic .

      1. Your use of the word “problematic” constitutes appropriation of multi-cultural culture, and is problematic.

  14. This list of demands as well as the Student Groups that are represented in this list are not exhaustive?

PRAY WE DON’T ALTER THE DEAL ANY FURTHER.

    1. Trying to make heads or tails of this mess is quite exhaustive – or is it exhausting?

      I dunno . . I’m tired of it all.

  15. Their demands will be met because university administrators are the worst kind of pussies imaginable. When are they going to learn caving on bullshit like this won’t placate the students? They’ll only demand more.

And honestly, who the Hell are these students to demand anything? STFU and learn something already.

    1. “STFU and learn something already.”

Um this is what they’ve been learning. They took all the bullshit their insane racist professors taught them and then put it into practice.

      1. and they have learned Squeaky Wheel Theory quite well since virtually no administration has ever told these young skulls to go the hell away.

        1. Telling them to get stuffed is the only thing that’ll stop this nonsense.

      2. Sorry, left out “useful.”

    2. I wonder if the administrators aren’t secretly delighted by all of this. To comply will require a bigger budget, more staff, etc.; everything a bureaucrat needs to grow his empire.

      1. Delighted? They’re behind all of it!

    3. Once you have paid the derpgeld….

    4. Arizona is an extraordinarily hostile environment for this stuff.

There are probably legislators who saw this story this morning, and are already planning hearings and budget cuts for the U of A.

  16. Will they mark the “safe spaces” with signs like, “Colored Only”? Hmm, haven’t we seen this somewhere before?

    1. Old school racists were just ahead of their time I guess.

      1. If I was a Stormfront member I would embrace all the SJW nonsense. Create enought black only and asian only spaces, and whatever is left over becomes white only by default.

        1. No. They insist that whitey never be able to isolate himself unless LGTBRLFQ

        2. What is old is new again.

    2. Nah, it’d be “African-American Only”, “Asian Only”, “LGBTQ Only”, etc.

Segregation even further than Jim Crow.

      1. Where would the transgendered Asian or black lesbian go? Would it depend on which feelz was hurt at that moment, like one safe place for her blackness and another for her lesbianess? Are there enforcers telling the whiney little bitches which safe space they are entitled to use for each particular grievance?

        1. Obviously in the Transgendered Asian Intersectionality Safe Space and the African-American Lesbian Intersectionality Safe Space.

      2. “LGBTQ Only”

More likely, L only, G only, B only, etc.

        1. At first, it’d be LGBTQ Only. Then one by one, they’d split off until the only ones left at the LGBTQ Only water fountains would be gay white men.

  17. These persons who perceive themselves as marginalized are creations of our society and government [Title IX run amok and all its derivations]. They’ve bought the victim model lock stock and barrel [would that be a trigger or a micro-aggression?] and have certainly embraced the leverage it gives them on college campuses, where administration is wired to duck and cover at any and all accusations of the various “isms.”

People like power and the ability to wield it over others; question is how far is this nonsense supposed to go before the collective “we” pony up and [in remembrance of the late Nancy Reagan] “just say no?”*

*with a better outcome than the war on drugs, of course

    1. Nancy forgot the other part of “Just say NO” — “or else”

      It was not a choice.

      1. Probably not the best comparison, I admit. Nancy was after all an astrological witch.

  18. at Mizzou, there was some backlash in the aftermath of the president’s ouster and that goofy professor’s antics. When do UA alums and donors contact the administration and suggest that this bullshit be met with silence at best and outright mockery and derision at worst?

    1. Its already happening, I have no doubt.

Bad news for these students: U of A alumns, administrators, legislators, etc. are all gathered right now at a big U of A networking event called the PAC-12 tournament. This will be an item of discussion, amongst a group of people who will be opposed to it. Its like they planned an invasion during the other side’s annual war games, when every unit was operational and deployed.

      This will be delicious.

  19. activist communities are demanding unlimited funding for their narrow left-wing goals, mandatory re-education of those who disagree with them, and censorship of dissenters

On a *College Campus* no less?

This is a new and unheard of development.

    1. what better place for re-education than an educational institution.

      1. You can’t “re-educate” what aint never got one in the first place

        1. you sure? The ENB piece on gender stereotypes has someone (maybe you) who linked to a story where a trans person got all pissy about being called “her” during an ultrasound. Up is not up anymore.

  20. Ostensibly Adult People Demand To Be Treated Like Spoiled Children Forever; You Won’t Believe What Happens Next

  21. Basically, these students are saying they would like tuition rates to be even higher.

    1. But not coming out of their pocket

      1. The loan company will pay for it.

        1. Don’t worry, the student loan bailout that they demand 3-6 years from now will take care of that.

          1. Loan “forgiveness” is already scheduled to be part of Bernie’s and Hillary’s “Free college for all” promises.

  22. The Marginalized Students of the University of Arizona have published their demands: like a lot of student-activists at other colleges, they want mandatory trigger warnings, sanctions for microaggressors, and obligatory cultural sensitivity training. They also want half a million dollars. For diversity.

That’s nice. Would you like a Fair Trade-GMO-free-transqueer-vagina-made cookie too?

    1. “free” sounds good. How many can I get?

    2. Suggestive a a Monica humidor.

  23. and a redefinition of violence to include “emotional violence.”

    I’d leave in silence.

    1. We need to stop this thing from spreading like a cancer.

    2. “So, I can punch you in the nose, or insult you. Do you have a preference? If not, then sure, “emotional violence” is a thing. If you would prefer not get punched in the nose, then I think there are distinctions, no?”

    1. My personal byline.

  24. Demands common to all oppressed participants include mandatory trigger warnings, which should be present in all classrooms in order to preempt “potentially problematic material.” Alternative assignments must be made available to any and all students who are made unsafe by the regularly scheduled curriculum.

The inmates are running the gulag.

    1. all students who are made unsafe

      I just, I can’t….

      1. I just, I can’t

        The Collective disagrees.

  25. “You’ll never understand a marginalized student’s experience unless you are one, have experienced these things, or surround yourself with other individuals who have.”

When you say you’re marginalized, you marginalize me. Where’s my goddamned trigger warning??

  26. It’s like these people were rounded up onto box cars and forced to enroll at the University Of Arizona.

When you make Oral Roberts University look sane, you are beyond hope.

    1. They’ll do the rounding up, thank you.

  27. Arizona??? Who goes to Arizona besides drunken fratboys and hot bottle-blonde, tanning addict girls? Who’s marginalized there – people who don’t like basketball and girls with their natural hair color?

    1. their natural hair color

      Above and below?

    2. Well, the U of A actually has some top-flight engineering, aerospace and astronomy programs. Jus’ sayin.

      1. I’d guess said engineering, aerospace and astronomy students aren’t part of the marginalized cabal.

  28. Stefano Saltalamacchia, a UA junior studying gender and women’s studies and Italian* [given the name, i’d think he was ahead of the curve]…. was also in attendance at the Guerrero Center listening tour with [UA President Ann Weaver] Hart.

He said one thing that came up during the meeting was the name of the recently opened Illegal Pete’s restaurant.

Students emotionally asked her to protect them and she declined making an official position,” Saltalamacchia said. “Which, in fact, by her not making an official position, is her making an official position

In a video obtained by the Daily Wildcat from Saltalamacchia, Hart is shown saying, “I will not take a stand in a restaurant off campus,” in reference to the name of Illegal Pete’s.

    to recap =

    – crazy people feel offended by name of restaurant
    – crazy people make mooing noises at the University President… demanding they wave their hands and create magical shield of protection
    – University president says, “What The Fuck Are You Talking About?… Its a RESTAURANT. I can’t do shit about that.”
    – crazy people take this as an Official Rejection of their Demand For Protection and begin weeping and tearing their hair

    1. PROTECT US FROM THESE UNCLEAN WORDS!

I’m reminded of some medieval religious attitudes towards perceived heretics.

    2. Show me a man majoring in “gender and women’s studies”, and I’ll show you a future Starbuck’s PM shift supervisor.

      1. And a barista you would rather not serve you, and who will insist on a living wage for life. .

    3. Had to look up Illegal Pete’s [I live no where near the Southwest so had never heard of it before now]; so they take a name the owner [who is Mexican American by the way] took from a novel to apply to his restaurant chain; somehow the snowflakes got the notion that it was denigrating to “illegal” immigrants [I suppose that and the fact that they serve killer burritos was just too much] and naturally protested it. Clearly an effort to migrate their brand of correctness off campus and onto the greater world about them. Thus far the guy’s not budging, and not likely the snowflakes can do any more about it. I suppose they will all hold their breath and turn as blue as little Smurfs.

      1. Well, you can’t expect the snowflakes to read books or look stuff up. That would be oppressive and stuff!

      2. Historical fun fact: I ate at a Sambo’s once.

Great hamburgers! Name selection not so ideal.

        1. I used to love eating at Sambo’s – it wasn’t until “they” got the chain run out of business that I even knew the name meant anything other than that the founder was a dude named Sam.

      3. There’s been a local kerfuffle over Illegal Pete’s name already. If memory serves, there was pretty much universal support for him outside of the campus asylum.

  29. What about Jewish Science? It is the bomb.

    1. +1 Oppenheimer

  30. “Future Non-Employees of America”

    1. Future welfare queens…

      1. And kings, don’t want to trigger anyone…

  31. What did the Greeks (Greek Life) do to them?

    1. Culturally appropriated the Greek alphabet, of course.

  32. “You’ll never understand a marginalized student’s experience unless you are one, have experienced these things, or surround yourself with other individuals who have.”

    IT’S SETTLED.

    1. I spent my entire college life working my ass of to pay the bills in addition to making grades. Never once had time to worry about being marginalized, perhaps these little snowflakes need a more difficult life rather than a padded, protected one.

      1. If you’re white, your story is inconsequential to them.

        1. Or he is in same category as Ben Carson, in which case race doesn’t matter either.

          1. Who said he. Maybe I’m a she wanting to be a he, pretending to be a she who has converted to he.

  33. These kids need more work study jobs*, much more classwork and labwork. If they had less time on their hands they’d have less time to work about being aggressed against, micro or otherwise.

*Of course this assumes that these precious little snowflakes aren’t the product of helicopter parents who are and will continue to pay all of the bills until said snowflake is a grandparent. In which case, they really need to STFU.

    1. I was raised by aircraft carrier parents. With a destroyer escort. I’m lucky to have lived through it.

      1. Nice. I think I had a similar upbringing.

      2. I was raised by sink-or-swim parents. They sent a small check each month and in return I would come home by bus for holidays and never ask for their help. At the time I just assumed this was normal, not knowing that helicopter parents might exist someday. And I’m glad.

    2. What would labwork look like for a Womyn’s Studies major? I shudder to think.

      1. Constant arguments over who was going to actually do the work?

        [ducks, runs]

      2. Trying to figure out how to force men to menstruate and give birth. For some reason a Monty Python sketch comes to mind.

  34. “we’re not all the same.”

But you all drive the same. Badly.

    1. You do realize this comment can hurl this thread into all sorts of horrible directions right?

      1. That is my intention, yes.

Did you know that the Chinese drivers in Monterey Park are so bad that the Mexicans get insurance?

Oh, sorry, I forgot- you’re the one who hates blacks. Never mind.

        1. Haitians are the worst drivers.

          IT’S SETTLED.

        2. I am so using that, Old Boy.

  35. U. of Arizona Marginalized Students Demand Trigger Warnings….

Okay….You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!

    1. Squeeze don’t jerk?

  36. When you reward this behavior, you get more of it.

  37. They have no idea that they are destroying the system that enables this level of derp. It is difficult to get men to enroll in these schools. And when the F/M ratio goes above 1.05 it is girls gone wild. “They are all sluts”. When the ratio is .95 it is reverence. “They are all pure as the driven snow.”

Fortunately women don’t know this. In the late 60s I liked hanging around these schools. Free love was in the air. On the ground and in the bed.

I avoided being a student. So officially I was an “outside agitator”. I met my first wife at U. Illinois – Carbondale. I also met my last wife there.

    1. So the ability to readily procure college hooch just comes down to a simple statistic, with deviations of .05?

      Damn, all those wasted years!

  38. They note that their demands are just that: demands, not requests.

    Or what?

I hate to have to break it to you special little snowflakes, but if you don’t have anything you can give or take away, you don’t have demands. You have requests.

    1. Indeed. They are begging, not demanding or negotiating. Begging.

    2. Thank you! I want to hear their “or else”. They drop out of school?

  39. The same thing has already happened in corporate America, though different motivations spurred action by a different set of stakeholders (corporations afraid of lawsuits instituted similar “training” to be sure one employee didn’t offend or disparage another, resulting in a lawsuit against the company).

In this case students may become vocal enough to cause the university to follow the corporate lead and institute “training” – not because the school deems it necessary or appropriate, but to be able to say, if faced with litigation, that they took the right steps to protect the “potentially maligned”.

The world has evolved – and not necessarily in a good way.

    1. Meh, the little bit of this stuff we get at my (mid-sized) company is all online videos and you check a box saying you watched it. Nothing like the totalitarian bullshit these kids want.

      1. ^ This. Every company I’ve worked at in my short career thus far has had something like a 1-hour lecture session with HR and a 1-hour online video during your first week orientation schedule.

  40. The inmates are running the gulag.

They’ve finally acheive the perfect state of communism – an inmate owned, cooperative gulag.

    1. “excuse me, is this meat made from artisanal, free-range rats?”

  41. What should be obligatory is expelling every last one of them. The professors who taught them this sort of idiocy deserve firing as well. Either that, or convert the college into an asylum, since that’s what it has become (just like so many colleges have today).

  42. Don’t you think we should ask for *more* than 500,000 dollars? A half million dollars isn’t exactly a lot of money these days. Virtucon alone makes over 9 billion dollars a year!

    1. They need Doctor Evil as a negotiator.

  43. “You’ll never understand a marginalized student’s experience unless you are one, have experienced these things, or surround yourself with other individuals who have.”.

The ultimate marginalized person is an individual. Without special group membership, you’re nothing.

  44. Why only 4 or so “safe spaces”. Why not a safe space for every immigrant nationality–since Brazilians don’t like to be called “chicano” and neither do Jamaican’s or Peruvians or…
And what about Malaysians? Or Turks? Or Indians (from India)? We need 50 safe spaces. And the OCD and the bipolar would also like special places too.
I can’t wait until the crazy student starts accusing the favorite leftist teachers of “triggering” for mentioning things like “wide open spaces” (agoraphobia) or the ocean (makes me seasick just to think about it) or gravity. And don’t imagine it won’t happen now that it is only based on “feelings” and not what is reasonable. After all, a guy got in trouble for mentioning his “clan” costume (Celtic, not Klan) and another for using the word “niggardly” which means cheap.

    1. “And the OCD and the bipolar would also like special places too”

The OCD safe space needs to be very clean, and needs to be in an odd-numbered room, and actually the bipolar folks need two spaces.

    2. “a guy got in trouble for mentioning his ‘clan’ costume”

Source?? I wish to be horrified to my Gaelic core.

  45. How unsafe might someone feel in perfectly ordinary circumstances? I saw a woman at a party who saw a grape on the floor and thought it was a spider and screamed–even after having it pointed out that it was a grape she would not calm down until someone took it away. Another woman who was afraid to go outside. A germ phobic male student at college who would come to the cafeteria minutes before closing to avoid all the people. How do you “protect” such people with trigger warnings or safe spaces? The whole world is not safe for them.
How do the students in question watch the news or a movie without trigger warnings? It is pretty scary stuff out there. Can I say “oy vey” if I am not Jewish?

  46. “identity-specific safe spaces.”

How specific are we talking?? Will there be a space for bisexual Baha’i Norse-Gaels and others like myself (there might be one, or two out there.)??

    1. Technically speaking, doesn’t this “identity-specific safe spaces” concept inevitably end with everyone in their own safe space?

      1. Solitary confinement for everyone!

  47. “LGBTQ” WTF does the “Q” stand for?

    1. Queer.

The logic behind using Q is … interesting.

Basically people say that queer is no longer a pejorative term, but a blanket term for anyone who isn’t straight and cisgender.

So they include the Q to cover anyone who is outside of the L, G, B, and T.

But if you’ve invented a new term to cover everyone conceivably in that group, then I wonder why they think they need the acronym at all?? Just say “Queer”, not “Elgeebeeteeqyoo”. They apparently invented a blanket term and aren’t even taking advantage of the convenience a blanket term provides…

      1. Thanks. My first thought was “queer” but I disregarded that guess because last I heard “queer” was still offensive and not PC. I guess consistency among the margins doesn’t matter to these people either.

I still think of the word queer as meaning what it means traditionally, weird, strange, abnormal; and having nothing to do with sexual preferences. Must be my traditional, white male, European descent, privilege talking.

      2. The acronym keeps getting longer. I believe several more letter have recently been added.

  48. “Asian-American students want everyone on campus to recognize that ‘we’re not all the same.'”

When Korean Americans stop acting as if they are an authority on who is/isn’t allowed to wear a Japanese kimono, I will consider this complaint to be not hypocritical.

  49. Anyone with balls would tell them to take their ‘demands’ and shove them wherever people of those identity groups traditionally shove things. They can demand all they want, like petulant children, but it takes adults with no spine to fulfill the demands.

  50. Appropos of nothing, the University of Missouri caved to a passle of idiotic student demands. Now they’re looking at a huge budget shortfall due to a sharp decline in new enrollments and student retention.

    I blame Republicans, of course.

    1. passel, that is…

  51. The proper response to such demands can only be “go fuck yourselves.”

  52. I have been raped and abused and, at my age, suffered gender discrimination. Trying to pretend that those things didn’t happen or that I need to be protected from emotional discomfort does far more harm than good.

Yes, they all leave scars, but better to heal them over as fast as possible than to live as some sort of protected hothouse flower or damaged goods that no one feels comfortable around because they can’t simply talk about whatever the topic happens to be … good or bad.

You learn to deal with it by dealing with it, not denying or hiding from it.

    1. I want my scars, I need my scars. – James Tiberius Kirk.

    2. Being terrified of pain does not lead to less pain and only adds fear.

    3. I am sorry to hear that. I know people who have gone through such things, and who are still dealing with the effects, years later. I wish you strength, and the ability to trust in those who are deserving of your trust.

    4. Scars are proof that we can survive our own stupidity – and hopefully learn from the experience.

Special snowflakes earn no scars – they never allow the wounds to heal, and for that reason they never learn from the experience.

  53. I believe these people are not marginalized enough. Send them off campus and on their way.

    1. Send them off campus and on their way.

Correction: Give them their own African-American, Asian-American, LGBTQ, etc., campuses.

  54. U. of Arizona Marginalized Students Demand Trigger Warnings, Censorship, Half a Million Dollars

Shit – does this mean ASU has finally overtaken UofA as the better college? If only because they haven’t done this *yet*.

    *sigh* My beloved Tucson.

  55. Who the FUCK are these students to demand anything? A bunch of liberal spoiled brats and nothing more. These students use the same tactics as feminists do: claim to be a victim; DEMAND special treatment ( in this case “safe spaces”), “retraining” and punishment for anyone who disagrees! All of these protest groups are the end result of federally funded colleges that have indoctrinated and brainwashed students. Since Obama took office, extreme liberalism, feminism, and political correctness have plagued the U.S. like a disease. This is exactly what he wants. Why? If people are too busy fighting among themselves, then they won’t be paying any attention to how corrupt our government is, and, simultaneously, liberal institutions will enable these brats by giving in to their demands.Colleges need to grow some balls and stop thinking about the bottom line all the time. Do not enable these students! Tell them that they do not get a”safe space”, or funding for retraining classes. In fact, they should have no say in how the school is run at all! You are there to learn, now STFU and study! If you have a personal issue , see a guidance counselor, don’t raise a riot and distract other students who are there to learn!!

  57. First McCain, now this?

Come on AZ, get it together!
