Marco Rubio Says 'Donald Trump Is a Con Artist,' Vows Florida Primary Win, Has Terrible Night
He blew it.

In a defiant and undeservedly optimistic speech Tuesday night, Sen. Marco Rubio vowed to "send a message" in the Florida Republican primary, which is two weeks away.
He implied that his campaign has just begun to make its case against Donald Trump, who is currently dominating the Super Tuesday election results.
"Five days ago, we began to unmask the true nature of the frontrunner in this race," he said. "Five days ago, we began to explain to the American people that Donald Trump is a con artist. In just five days, we have seen the impact it is having all across the country. We are seeing in state after state, his numbers coming down, ours coming up. Two weeks from tonight, right here in Florida, we are going to send a message loud and clear."
Which raises two big questions: Why did Rubio wait until five days ago to go after Trump, and why does anyone consider him the best hope for defeating Trump?
Keep in mind that Ted Cruz has won two Super Tuesday states so far—Texas and Oklahoma. Rubio won zero.

Rubio is dumb.
That's why he was nominated as the backup establishment tool after Jeb! failed to launch.
The GOP is the stupid party after all.
rubio doesn't have to win states necessarily, but i do think it might be fair to say he has to win florida. and cruz won texas and oklahoma....it doesn't scream being a better alternative than rubio. at this point, absent rubio or cruz being a grown up and dropping out and endorsing the other, the only real hope of stopping trump is a brokered convention. the rnc might not be able to justify taking it from trump, but that won't stop them from doing it if the math adds up. also, despite trumps media savvy, i still don't think he's politically savvy, so stealing it would require just a little imagination by the rnc.
Paul Waldman at the WP explains why neither Cruz nor Rubio have any reason to drop out, yet.
An Easy Rider quote, Robby?
... Hobbit
i noticed the christie introduced trump tonight. he really is going to be his bitch for as long as it takes to be attorneys general isn't he?
Christie looks out for Christie. Smart guy.
Not really. Christie was in a much stronger position in the GOP four years ago before making a series of very stupid mistakes, beginning with giving Obama the political equivalent of a French kiss two days before the 2012 election.
How was he in a stronger position four years ago, can you point to something he lost?
Also, so what? Right now, backing the likely winner is the smarter move.
Rubio: "Five days ago, we began to explain to the American people that Donald Trump is a con artist."
Boy, those republicans sure take their pledges (e.g. to support the eventual nominee) seriously, don't they?
yeah, it's the republicans. the rest of them always do exactly what they say they're gonna.
Jesus. If you weren't on that bus in December, whose fault was that?
You know that Trump would have broken that pledge if he lost.
Rubio was a moron for signing that pledge with Trump in the race. If the GOP supports this douche, it's curtains for the GOP.
so it's gonna be clinton v trump, huh? i might just go ahead and preemptively choke on my own vomit.
Yep. Go home everybody, Hillary Clinton is going to be our next president after today. Let the bidding wars for presidential favors begin.
Cruz has a better chance of beating Trump, but like Trump he would get clobbered by Clinton in the general, so what's the point?
The (only?) reason people support Rubio is because he can beat Hillary.
Hey, an even more blatant con artist just got two terms, so he's got that going for him.
If Rubio doesn't want Trump to win, he'd drop out and support Cruz. Him and Kasich staying in will only lead to a Trump victory.
Why did he wait until 5 days ago to go after Trump? Because nobody who understands anything believes for one second that anyone is really going to vote for Trump when it comes right down to it. So why waste your positive ratings by going negative on a buffoon?
It turns out that there are a lot more people who don't understand anything than you'd ever imagine.
