After Giving Rubio a Swirlie, Chris Christie Moseys Toward the Exit
Governor poised to suspend presidential campaign.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who will apparently be known not for lying about his own past in the debates or constantly invoking Sept. 11, but for rattling Sen. Marco Rubio's campaign by pointing out the senator's canned speeches (which is in turns both hypocritical and hilarious, but also true), is likely calling it quits today. Despite the media attention over the weekend, he failed to perform in the New Hampshire primary, getting just 7.4 percent of the vote and no delegates. He still performed worse than Rubio, who got 10.5 percent.
Last night, Christie said he was retreating to New Jersey to figure out what his campaign would do, which was initially perceived as an end to the campaign. That was a premature declaration, but it doesn't appear to have been wrong. From CNN:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is huddling with top campaign aides on Wednesday and all indications are they expect him to formally suspend his bid for the Republican nomination, according to two sources. Details are still being worked out.
One source noted that the New Jersey governor is a "political realist" and understood that not qualifying to appear in Saturday's debate and the lack of money made it impossible to go forward.
There was little love from Christie for the Republican Party's libertarian wing and the feeling was pretty much mutual. He (much like Rubio, actually) supported letting the National Security Agency (NSA) snoop on Americans without warrants in order to allegedly track down terrorists. Despite his attempts to seem like the more personable candidate by playing directly into the camera whenever possible at the debates, he was absolutely terrible when asked to demonstrate actual empathy toward people trying to get access to medical marijuana for children in New Jersey.
On the other hand, he was one of the only candidates to actually wade into a discussion of actual reform of entitlements with an eye on reducing debt. But that all took back seat to his attempts to shut down actual policy discussions at debates by dismissing the senators in the race as just talking about stuff and not doing anything.
We'll see who Christie throws his support to, if anybody. I personally hope it's Jeb Bush, because it will make me laugh and laugh and laugh.
Update: Christie's spokesperson says "no decision has been made."

Don't let the double doors bump you in the arse on your way out.
I'm not sure he has much say in the matter
Considering that his ass can barely fit into a single time zone...
OT: CSPI pushing for increased soda regulation. Apparently, "research" indicated 183,000 deaths per year (24,000 in the US)...

Like most such organizations, what CSPI does is the exact opposite of their name, because what they do is neither science nor in the public interest.
CSPI? Wow, I may have to reinvigorate the activities of the Center for Good Things that People Want.
I'm sure they left out "fruit juice" by accident.
"Natural" sugars don't count! Sheesh, don't you know anything...

Once again (hee-hee): If we *must* have taxes, tax excess body weight.
Tax the whales!
because it will make me laugh and laugh and laugh.
This is not a joke, Scott. Wait, was it not a joke, not a laughing matter, or something else.
I forget what the canned response is.
Timmaaaaay!
Well, it certainly isn't OK.
I forget what the canned response is.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thank you and God bless America.
I hope the fat f*** goes away for good.
What's a f***?
Fasterisks?
Fhitler?
I flarfed
I think it's fasteriskasteriskasterisk
Whatever the case, i will be referring to Christie as "fat Fhitler" from now on.
ffap?
Christie has two realistic alternatives to heave his support at:
Rubio and Bush.
Of course, what his statement about who people ought to vote for will actually accomplish, well, who knows? Or even cares?
Or Kaisich
Kasich has a better chance than JEB!, I think.
Yes, but only because Kasich could quite conceivably become VP. I don't see JEB! having a shot at VP or a cabinet post.
This is the second time I've heard this. Why is Kasich the premium Veep choice? Not that I disagree, I'm just wondering where this consensus is coming from.
I think Carly's the best candidate for Veep at this point.
I think the best R VP choice is Nikki Haley, but that's assuming that the nominee will be Rubio/Bush/Kasich
If it's Cruz or Trump who knows
My guess is Ohio.
Personally, I expect the VP to be woman, minority, or both. Susanna Martinez or Nikki Haley are where my money is.
So what's Sarah Palin, chopped liver?
It is her turn.
And I bet her vag is more interesting than Clinton's.
The popular Governor from Ohio (a swing state), he has "cross-party appeal."
Kasich
Who?
There is no 'I' in Typo, RC.
Who he endorses is who he made a deal with to be AG.
Ugh. Now there's a dreary thought.
Go back to your Hutt, Joisey!
So after the GOP good ol boys lose both their establishment boys, Rubio and Boosh, who do they court next? Will it be Trump or Cruz? I'm guessing Cruz, they probably think the Donald is too unpredictable and hard to control. Sacks full of crony bucks will buy Ted more easily. I'm guessing it will take much bigger sacks of crony bucks+Manhattan island to buy Trump.
Nope, they hate Cruz, but think they can make deals with Trump.
I think Rubio is going to be their guy until the end, and the pressure for JEB! and his team to drop out will be pretty intense from here.
The GOP hates Cruz and doesn't trust Trump. If Rubio crashes and burns (as it appears he might), I think it's more likely they'll go down in flames than back either of them. I expect Congressional candidates, however, (especially for the House) will embrace the dickery of Trump and Cruz.
I agree. If Rubio fails, then the donors will like abstain from the Presidential race and focus on the Congressional and Gubernatorial races. The politicians will back whoever their party's nominee is if they're in a red state, if there in a blue state or swing state they might "refuse to say" who they support, or call themselves "independent."
The establishment will get behind Kaisich is where my money is.
I would love if they did that, the problem is Kasich is too easy of candidate for conservatives to oppose. Rubio has support on the Right, and can sell them the establishment's bad ideas (except on immigration). Kaisch who embraced medicaid expansion, through Obamacare, has little support on the right and has already received the label as the media's favorite Republican. No I think they'll stick with Rubio.
Cruz. Because the Socons like Cruz and don't like Trump.
Whoever Christie throws his support behind had better be prepared to take a hard fall. No way anyone can remain on their feet when that much mass hits them.
Seriously, though, good riddance!
If Christie's out, there goes our best chance at seeing a Shoggoth-American in the White House.
I had him pegged for a Slitheen.
Nope, he's definitely a shoggoth:
"It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train?a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us..."
Holy god damn hell I hate you for that.
So a man who used political power to close a bridge to piss off a political enemy stayed in a race to screw over a political enemy? I'm shocked! Shocked!
Poor Chris. Now he's relegated back to waiting on the shoreline of Atlantic City for his herd of seals that dropped him off so many years ago.
You won't be missed, you fat statist piece of shit.
Did you guys know that he was a former federal prosecutor?
Or, that 9/11 exists?
Because I worry that without him in the race, one if not both of those details might be forgotten.
He was named a federal prosecutor on September 10

Remember that one time he yelled at that unionized school teacher ?
'member that ?
That was awesome.
For a couple picoseconds he was a promising governor.
