Politically Incorrect: Coen Brothers Don't Care If Their Movie Isn't Diverse Enough
'It's important to tell the story you're telling in the right way.'

Don't expect the Coen brothers to issue any apologies for contributing to the #OscarsSoWhite phenomenon: In a recent interview, the makers of Hail, Caesar! dismissed concerns that the film features an almost entirely white cast.
Joel Coen maintained that while diversity is important, the Oscars are not important. In any case, a filmmaker's first obligation is to tell his story the "right" way, not the politically-correct way. (Hail, Caesar! was just released and isn't up for any awards this year, but the Coens were nominated for penning the Bridge of Spies screenplay.)
When The Daily Beast asked why there weren't more minorities in Hail, Caesar!'s cast, Coen fired back with, "Why would there be?"
"I don't understand the question. No—I understand that you're asking the question, I don't understand where the question comes from.
"Not why people want more diversity—why they would single out a particular movie and say, 'Why aren't there black or Chinese or Martians in this movie? What's going on?' That's the question I don't understand. The person who asks that question has to come in the room and explain it to me."
As filmmakers, is it important or not important to consciously factor in concerns like diversity, I asked.
"Not in the least!" Ethan [Coen] answered. "It's important to tell the story you're telling in the right way, which might involve black people or people of whatever heritage or ethnicity—or it might not."
Their statements are almost shockingly honest, given that they seem likely to provoke the wrath of the social media left. The Washington Free Beacon's Sonny Bunch comments, "That's an incredibly blunt—and, frankly, incredibly refreshing—answer….Anyway, I'm curious to see how these comments are received."
In any case, while the controversy over this year's Oscars has revolved around the assumption that the awards show isn't representative of America's broader diversity, Freethink Media's Kmele Foster recently pointed out the shaky math behind that theory. As he said on Fox and Friends:
"Twenty percent of the wins in the 'Best Actor' category, for example, have gone to black actors. Blacks are not 20% of the population; they're around 13% of the population…12.4% of the nominations have gone to black actors…
I don't doubt the sentiment here. I don't doubt that people are concerned about this issue. I don't doubt that you're sincere in your concern about this issue. What I'm suggesting to you is that when I look at the actual facts here—the data—since 2000 to today, that across various categories, the fact of the matter is that blacks, relative to their percentage of the population, have been over-represented in some sense, not under-represented.
And it's important to acknowledge that because regardless of who's doing the nominating, it's a 'fair' outcome."

He's giving the whole social justice movement the high hat!
"You got a lip on you."
My stomach's been seizing up on me...
Yes to the refreshing, no to any curiosity regarding how they are received.
...no to any curiosity regarding how they are received.
Crusty, it's a fool that looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart.
My cardiologist told me the same thing.
how they will be received is already known: "wwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
Awesome
The person who asks that question has to come in the room and explain it to me.
"I just want to understand this, sir... Every time a race is effectively micturated upon in this fair industry, I have to compensate the race?"
*polite applause*
Dude, do you make T-Shirts?
They should follow the lead of those BBC shows in which medieval rural England somehow had the same ethnic composition as present-day London.
That's one way to do things. And in a fantasy show like Merlin or something, it's fine. But if you want to go for realism, I don't see any reason not to cast for a particular race. Particularly in historical pieces, race is pretty relevant and race blind casting can be a bit confusing.
"And in a fantasy show like Merlin or something, it's fine"
As shown in the series 'Once Upon a Time'. But to your point, since Merlin is expected to be an exceptional character of unknown origin, casting a Black actor in the role seem like a fine choice.
Actually, there is a show called "Merlin" that has a few black actors in it that aren't in specifically black roles. But it's a silly fantasy that's not trying to be historically accurate, so it doesn't really matter.
... or a Swede.
..."The name "Merlin" is derived from the Welsh Myrddin, the name of the bard Myrddin Wyllt, one of the chief sources for the later legendary figure. Geoffrey of Monmouth Latinised the name to Merlinus in his works."... So Merlin is Welsh, or at least Celtic.
Oh, do you mean Legend of the Seeker, with its Asian, Black, Spanish, and White folks all living in the same village, with different accents, under a tyrannical British-accent chortling mayor?
Why did that show die after two seasons? Aside, I think I can only appreciate horrible shows that take themselves incredibly seriously. I think I am an asshole.
Well that was a fantasy show unrelated to any real historical period - and filmed in NZ. So why not.
It died because unlike Game of Thrones, they went the syndicated route (like Xena) based on source material that's harder than GoT. Too bad really - it's a pretty deep dig, but the sixth book features some perfect classical liberal/libertarian screeds against some very SJW type villains (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faith_of_the_Fallen).
It always strikes me as particularly strange considering how the Ancients had very little sense of race compared to modern Europeans, and the people of the Mediterranean were all pretty heavily intermingled. Also, there's the fact that the Negro was next to unknown to Europe for several centuries more and certainly was not considered the representative type of African. Just imagine if Orson Welles were alive today and made OTHELLO in Africa and presented it under the flag of Morocco, as he did.
I don't understand the question. No?I understand that you're asking the question, I don't understand where the question comes from.
"Not why people want more diversity?why they would single out a particular movie and say, 'Why aren't there black or Chinese or Martians in this movie? What's going on?' That's the question I don't understand. The person who asks that question has to come in the room and explain it to me."
Bully to him. That's exactly how you should respond to this shit. You tell ME where and why I'm supposed to shoehorn minorities into this story.
Ah... but you miss the point. You aren't supposed to shoehorn minorities into that particular story. You're clearly telling the wrong story. You should be telling a story that revolves around a more diverse set of characters.
At least, I think that the "logic".
That is definitely one of the lines of argument. Who needs all these movies about white characters? There's more social value in stories about people of color, which leads to some kind of obligation to only do those stories. If you don't, we get to criticize you.
"If you don't, we get to criticize you."
To be clear, it's more likely to be: "If you don't, we get to call you a racist."
So I wonder just how well the story would have been received had he added a bunch of African slaves and slave-prostitues?
No, I don't really wonder that. But I kinda wish he had filmed a few scenes like that and had them on hand as out-takes to show and ask the questioner if these would fix the problem.
Yes, and it's always the responsibility of the "privileged" white filmmakers to tell that story. That's what I can't stand about this entire non-controversy: if you want movies made about your people, make them your damned self.
Do you not like that white directors cast white people in stories about white people? Then get off your dead asses and make movies about your people starring your people.
Yet another side effect of welfare culture. "We want ____!! Give it to us now!! Telling us to get it ourselves is TEH RACISMSM!!"
n any case, while the controversy over this year's Oscars has revolved around the assumption that the awards show isn't representative of America's broader diversity, Freethink Media's Kmele Foster recently pointed out the shaky math behind that theory. As he said on Fox and Friends:
I'm pretty sure the only people left watching the Oscars are reporters from Variety and TMZ.
Are you trying to finagle an invite to my Oscars party? If so, it isn't working.
So you DO work for TMZ.
Color me impressed! CJ is showing KLASS and KULTURE.
And people in the industry.
It's a big circle jerk.
I miss Kmele!
He's only .0000000001% of the population.
He's our token black libertarian.
Look at Mister 1-Drop here!
I thought you were more of a mocha.
You don't pass the black purity test.
Never Forget
I love the part when he insisted he wasnt black.
The Census takers are supposed to record the people they interview as whatever race the person claims to be. I remember when they come to the house I was sharing with this big Italian guy. They arsked his race, and I said, "My friend is obviously Chinese." They backed me up, and they actually refused to enter it that way.
My guess is the SJW's will choose ... 'poorly.'
A movie is art. The Academy Awards are business.
/progthink
Probably something like this.
The Coens grew up in 1950's suburban Minneapolis so it doesn't really surprise me that they don't buy into SJW racial obsessions.
close enough: born into 1950's suburbia, grew up in 1960's suburbia.
This may be peak pedantry.
We could only dream.
You know who else already knew about some Jewish peoples' lack of obsession with race?
Hey Robby, you forgot to add a - "...while these questions are important..." type caveat to this post. You're gonna get snubbed by the really cool kids.
Needs more bae.
We are the cool kid.
Only in our own minds.
A saucy line will not get you far with Rico.
Wet your comb and it'll take care of that cowlick.
What's the rumpus?
He's bonafide.
He's a suitor.
At one time the commenting gentry of this fine blog used their combined mockery to get the Judge to stop with the "what if" posts. This was seen as a good thing and praised mightily by the masses. Now, when I attempt to curtail a recurring use of vapid appeasement by Robby, I catch nothing but shit. It's no wonder Shrike and Tulpa and AmSoc and Tony all lost their minds and started posting nothing but blathering nonsense. keep pushing... I can start using words like gambol and block quoting wall of text just as easy as anyone else.
Now, when I attempt to curtail a recurring use of vapid appeasement by Robby, I catch nothing but shit.
Except the article *didn't* include such "vapid appeasement", as you yourself pointed out, and yet still you whine.
Right, He managed one post free of pacifying qualifiers, so what? We gotta be vigilant. Hell, the judge was taking shit five, six, ten post after his last "what if" article, and that was a good thing. You gotta let 'em know that you're watching even when they are on their best behavior.
Some of those that post nonsense, are the same that post nonsense...
Some of those that post nonsense, are the same that post nonsense...
Posting in the name of!
So, why mock him when he doesn't do it?
I also think that Robby is writing for a broader audience than just Reason commenters in many cases. If it helps people get the basic message, or even part of it, a little bit of pacifying qualifiers isn't such a bad thing.
So, why mock him when he doesn't do it? See above my 7:07 comment
a little bit of pacifying qualifiers isn't such a bad thing. Bullshit, you just fell for the old "we proved that you're a whore, now we just gotta negotiate the price" trick
Well, he is a whore. He writes for money.

+1 Samuel Johnson
I found your cartoons amusing.
Thanks, and don't think that this compliment in any way affected my response to your last comment... and that comment was awesome, by the by.
I was in a sociology class where I was asked for these pointless essays of social commentary about nonsense. I cannibalised largely the work of the White Indian and got very good marks with minimal effort.
So I remember someone saying that blacks were under-represented at the Supreme Court. Much derp ensued after I reminded then that blacks make up about 1/9th of the population and make up 1/9th of the Supreme Court.
Oh but since Thomas doesn't 'believe' the right things, that's not really diversity.
Seriously, they believe that.
Damn, the Coens fucking nailed it. Their responses are perfect, word-for-word.
Good old Kmele also nails it, though I'd add that it's quite clear that the concerns for "diversity" are focused on black actors. I don't see much concern for Oscar Isaac, Damien Bichir, Shu Qi not getting a nomination. What complaints I've seen regarding Benicio del Toro's snub have to do with a love for Sicario, and not the race question.
You think this is bad. Wait till they start demanding more pakis.
As I have said, Asians need to learn how to complain.
Asians are already set to go the same way as the Jews, Italians and various other groups who are now "white". Due to being successful and integrated they will become white in the eyes of the left and be told they all responsible for all of the past crimes whites committed.
Heck its already happened, the NYT recently ran an article claiming Google was racist because it most hired whites. But they counted Asians as white and most of those Asians are actually Indian, seriously when I've been to Google it seems 50% indian but that is white today.
And don't say it won't happen because it already has. My family is Sicilian and darker than most " people of color", but we are counted as white, while lighter skinned people are PoC. Its absurd.
Technically, Indians from India are Caucasian. Italians, even Sicilians, are likewise Caucasian.
The color of ones skin is only a cursory indicator of race and, given that non-Negro people represent most of the brown and black skinned population in the world, not a particularly good one.
"It's important to tell the story you're telling in the right way, which might involve black people or people of whatever heritage or ethnicity?or it might not."
*Glares at JJ Abrams*
Diversity or lack thereof has never been JJ Abrams problem.
Yeah, not sure where JJ comes into it.
Marvel had some pretty hilarious, ham-fisted attempts early on. As I recall, Thor's crew of Norse gods and Cap's squad in WWII both had one of every ethnicity.
Not that there's anything wrong with that! It was just funny to see.
The Howling Commandos in the first Captain America movie were actually pretty close to the the original 60s lineup.
And the only non-white Asgardian characters I recall from Thor are Hogun (who, again, appears Asian in the comics), and Idris Elba as Heimdall, who was totally badass.
I did not know that. Weird, wild stuff.
It's one of the fucked things I noticed about the art in the new Fifth Edition books: we got elfs and goblins and what not who are also clearly Chinese or Negro or whatever, as though the divers races of man are some kind of basic template upon which any other fantasy animal form must be superimposed.
JJ comes into that because, aside from being quite a good film, The Force Awakens was obviously cast in a way that panders to "diversity" types (while simultaneously marketing SW to as diverse a group of consumers as possible, natch). I loved it, and even I recognize that.
Sorry if I was being too PC; "It's important to tell the story you're telling in the right way, which might involve black stormtroopers?or it might not."
Again, what's the problem with a black stormtrooper? John Boyega did a good job in TFA.
I don't have a problem with a black stormtrooper and I certainly think John Boyega did a great job.
I have a problem with the fact that it confounds/needlessly complicates the story; cloned stormtroopers were inferior so they upgraded less reliable/more diverse brainwashed slaves?
Star Wars was never lacking diversity (transgendered shapeshifting assassins!) and is shot full of inconsistencies. JJ certainly straightened a few things out, and probably came out in the black regarding overall consistency, but he certainly injected some for no apparent reason as well.
The canon, I think even when Lucas was still in charge and after AOTC, was that clone troopers deteriorated and stormtroopers were recruits.
"came out in the black"
Racist! You're doing it again!
Well for one thing, the First Order is a different thing from the Empire. They go about things differently.
And were the stormtroopers in the original trilogy meant to be clones? Who knows? Lucas certainly didn't have Temuera Morrison dub over their lines for the special editions. And if I recall from the animated show, they ran into some technical problems with the clones late into the war. You'll notice nobody relied on the way more disposable battle droids either.
"And were the stormtroopers in the original trilogy meant to be clones?"
No, they weren't. It's fucking obvious he kept making shit up as it went on, revising story elements. His claim to've sketched it all out beforehand is obviously false. I always found it disturbing that they decided to make Darth Vader white in the end. That was just fucked up.
It's fucking obvious he kept making shit up as it went on, revising story elements.
^This^
Perpetual retcon.
Regardless of whether they were meant to be clones, conscripts, or carefully selected slaves, the aspirations to uniformity/purity were skull-crushingly obvious. The *Empire* is composed, top to bottom of white human men. The only time they deal with anyone else, they are considered to be expendable scum.
With a galaxy full of four-armed men, 7.5 ft. tall Wookies, flying bugs, and quarter-reptilian cyborgs would you choose humans *alone*? Why, with a galaxy full of transgendered assassins and blatant overtones of cross-speciesm, would you choose *one* stormtrooper to be black? IMO, it's fourth-wall shattering diversity (because it's only diversity in our universe) and it runs counter to the all-white empire of IV, V, VI, the clone story of I, II, and III and the uniformity and symbolism slathered into The First Order... and it contributes nothing to the story (yet?!).
The fact that Lucas (and now Abrams) routinely didn't think past their own noses is pretty obvious.
But on Battlefront, you can be other species of stormtrooper!
Melissa Harris-Perry? Is that you?
+1 Thulsa Doom
Without delving too deeply into the minutae of the lore, cloning wasn't a straightforward process in any sense in 'Star Wars'. It was extremely expensive, prone to yielding functionally lackluster results, and tended to produce unpredictable, varyingly deficient soldiers.
They were also mistrusted. Imperial bureaucracy sought to phase them out of service as they aged. Personnel for both the Stormtrooper Corps and the wider Imperial Army (and Navy) were recruited from general populations within the Galactic Empire's territories. Near-human aliens, additionally, were permitted military advancement openly as early as the latter stages of Palpatine's reign, meaning a racially diverse martial workforce is consistent with explanatory canon.
seems palpatine was quite the progressive.
How did you guess?
Well he was a Top Man.
"Again, what's the problem with a black stormtrooper?"
The fact that stormtroopers are quite obviously white?
Shadow Troopers?
Tie Fighter Pilots?
I don't think there were many black people in Germany back then, so it would seem a little odd.
Boyega was crap. Wait - Boyega wasn't bad, in and of himself - the character was utter shite.
Would have been killed by another Stormtrooper armed with essentially a Taser Stick, if not for being saved by Han. . . but was able to avoid being immediately obliterated by a trained force user wielding a lightsaber.
Why are we to assume there were never black stormtroopers?
Did you ever see one selling crack on the corner?
"Why are we to assume there were never black stormtroopers?"
Because StormTroopers were all clones of Boba Fett. At least per the movies.
I thought they were clones of Django Fett, who obviously was black.
(I kid, I know that's not how it's spelled)
But in any case, since the whole clone factory planet thing was never brought up after Episode II, I don't see why it's necessarily correct to assume that the Empire used clones *exclusively* to staff the Stormtroopers for the entirety of its existence. Even if they *did*, after the Empire fell it's completely plausible that the First Order lacked the resources/know-how to continue making clones and had to switch to the conscription/child slavery model.
I mean, even without them spelling all of this out in the movie, it's not a totally illogical or contradictory idea.
Not really. It's only suggested with Attack of the Clones. And Lucas only had Boba's voice redubbed with the Jango Fett actor, not the stormtroopers.
Plus, apparently Solo was a stormtrooper earlier in life. So was Biggs, Luke's friend. "The Academy" that Luke talks about presumably trained stormtroopers.
"The Academy" that Luke talks about presumably trained stormtroopers.
I assumed it was the "Naval" academy, responsible for training Tie/Shuttle pilots and capital crews.
The pilots also wore stormtroopery helmets and uniforms!
I thought Solo was an officer? Possibly a pilot.
Why are we to assume there were never black stormtroopers?
See my post above. Ignoring the 8 ft. tall hair monsters and human sex slaves to slug creatures, it's a little like you pointed out about the racial diversity in Captain America, except the deus ex machina is stronger because the *racial* diversity is on the Nazi/Hydra side.
Imperial authorities of Darth Sidious' reign were speciesist, with a rigid distrust and disdain of non-humans (and especially non-humanoid alien), but they didn't make distinctions between different varieties of human beings.
The successor-states to Palpatine's Galactic Empire, moreover, gradually deemphasized their humanocentrism, until it was virtually gone by the time of the One Sith and their resurgent Empire (over a century after the Battle of Yavin).
'The Force Awakens' sucked balls as a 'Star Wars' entry, but a black Stormtrooper is nothing unusual.
It's a rehash of many of the themes of the first trilogy. Here's how I see the roles paralleling:
Kylo Ren:Darth Vader
Sunkiller:Death Star
Rey:Luke Skywalker
Han Solo:OB1 Kenobi (even the fight between Han Solo and Kylo Ren echoes back to the fight between OB1 Kenobi and Darth Vader)
Luke Skywalker:Yoda
So, Boyega's character is Lando Calrisian?
From my travels, most black folk seem to think that the nation is 50% white and 50% black, or thereabouts.
Where I grew up (in the Black Belt), it was 55% black, 33% white, 5% Asian, and 7% other/mixed.
Much of the US have fewer blacks ? Iowa, on the other hand, is 91% white and 3% black or so.
So, it seems to me that blacks are concentrated in certain areas where such numbers aren't that far from the truth.
And I imagine black people, being on average poorer, don't travel as much as white people, so you could imagine a black person thinking the entire country weren't so different from Baltimore or Chicago.
I wonder how much of this indignation is rooted in this simple numerical error?
New math.
Whining about #OscarsSoWhite is retarded per se, but there's another reason why comparing the proportion of black nominees/winners to the share of African-Americans in the US is completely wrong. Oscars for best actors are not given just to American actors, they are given to (mostly) English-speaking actors from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and even Austria. And some of these countries (*cough* Britain *cough*) are over-represented among the nominees. The demographics of these countries are not similar to the US.
I've pointed out to a few people that, regarding diversity, half of the nominees are from outside the US. They're pale, to be sure, but it is diverse!
Not the only Austrian-born Best Actor, either.
"Idris Elba to star as John Kennedy in new biopic."
Even in whiteface, he's way too big and strong to be plausible.
well they had a black actor do him in BUBBA HOTEP and it worked
", you don't understand anything about how stories get written and you don't realize that the question you're asking is idiotic."
(drops mic)
The Coen Bros had their production office right across from my office when they were in Mpls making A Serious Man.
I nodded at them twice in the elevator. I love their movies (Raising Arizona is in my top 3 films of all time), but I didn't want to annoy them by gushing. They seemed like decent guys.
The people working the office were all great and they had nice things to say about them. I think they deserve to be Minnesoda's true ambassadors of Art. Unfortunately, I'm sure if it was put to a vote that fuck Garrison Keilor would win.
I saw Spike Lee a few times when I was at NYU. I'd always wait for the next elevator.
Lucky you. The Coens are awesome. I'm pretty sure I would gush a little bit.
Garrison Keillor IS Minnesota.
Minnesota is grossly overrated?
Also a dick? from what I hear..
But Pappy; they's innigrated!
Hell, the movie ain't even old timey!
That's just, like, your opinion, man.
So how long before he's forced to apologize and beg forgiveness, along with a large contribution to #BlackLivesMatter and a promise to give one of Al Sharpton's nephews a starring role in their next film?
Won't happen. Nobody tells the Coen Bros what to do.
Look into your heart, Hugh. Look into your heart.
Nobody fucks with the Jesus, Epi.
Don't count on it. Artistes are a special privileged elite above the rules. See Roman Polansky for details.
So, the interviewer knows perfectly well why the film isn't "diverse", but chooses to make something out of it anyway.
And yet their new movie stars one of the biggest lefties in Hollywood.
And that Bridge of Spies movie you mentioned was pro-Soviet propaganda, basically.
And that Bridge of Spies movie you mentioned was pro-Soviet propaganda, basically.
Ha ha, what? Sarcasm, right?
Or maybe it was one of those awful movies that portrayed Soviet Russians as human beings?
Here you go, Hugh.
Well, I've seen it. It portrays *a* Soviet Russian as a human being (Abel, the spy), and even then the movie makes clear that he actually is guilty of what he's accused of, and most of the conflict in the first half of the film is about what it means to give a fair trial to a man most people find loathsome.
Every single other time we see Soviets in this movie, they are doing one of the following:
1. Acting underhanded and devious to gain the upper hand in diplomatic negotiations
2. Torturing a prisoner
3. Shooting unarmed civilians in the back
So I'm a little baffled that someone would call it "pro-Soviet propaganda".
It's a great show, but you might want to avoid The Americans.
Why the fuck is George Clooney in every one of their movies? That ain't diverse, hell, it ain't even old-timey!
You gotta admit, Cloon-tang is a great actor.
Ah, Kmele.
Ah, Kmele.
I think once you've said that, you've said it all
I can't wait to see what people will say about this!!
OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!
So no one bother to bring up the fact that Rome was, you know, made up of white Europeans.
But let's cast Asians, Blacks, and Natives because diversity. Let's make Caesar a black Asian. While we're at it, I'm sure that asshole Spike Lee would approve of casting a cracker to play the part of 'Shaft'.
As Heroic Mulatto notes, everyone can go and suck a caribou's ass.
Surely there were black Africans and Arabs in Rome.
dont call me surely.
The movie is not set in Rome, it is set in 1950s Hollywood. But see my comment/quote above.
My mistake then and ignore. I just assumed.
Which only points to...NEVER ASSUME.
Assuming makes an ass out of you and Flash Gordon's nemesis.
Yay or nay:
A six episode reboot of 'Cheers' similar to The X-Files.
Man, I loved that show. Especially the Sam-Diane years.
Yeah, Cheers was great. One of the first shows i was really into. And it holds up remarkably well. A lot of 80s shows are just terrible.
Consign and endorsed! I watched a Cheers episode for the first time in years about six months ago. It holds up perfectly well. Night Court (on right after it) wasn't as good but still a funny show and Markie Post was sneaky hot. Looking back at my childhood, most of my favorite shows involved few/no children (with the exception of Family Ties and the Cosby Show). Even then, I recognized most kid roles just being catchphrases and "aw cute" moments that took away from the humor of the show.
"It's important to tell the story you're telling in the right way"
Does that generalize to all endeavors, or is it only fancy pants artistes who are above diversity considerations, while the peasants should still be expected to comply comply comply with the Bureau of Racial Preferences and Set Asides?
I expect that Robby is jumping the gun on the "politically incorrect" business. Much more likely it's special case pleading for favored elite douchebags to be above the rules.
above the rules they want applied to the peasant classes.
Or maybe your unwillingness to stand up to prevailing social pressures has caused a terminal case of cryabetes?
Cryabetes!
That's good!
I can understand the Negro being overrepresented in entertainment, since he tends to be more capable at it than the European, at least in many areas. I don't suggest it's actually a racial thing. More likely, it's cultural, if anything an indicator of the Negro being marginalised in the past. Cultural, I mean, in the sense of how the USA culture conforms itself, not as if the American Negro were culturally distinct from the American European in any real, meaningful sense. But the question they should be arsking is how much are folks of Hebrew ancestry represented in entertainments versus how much of the population they make up, and compare it with similar ratios in other European cultures. That's one which is a lot harder to explain. I mean, I've never heard anybody saying, "Oh man, I just love jews! Jews are so funny!" or anything comparable to how they may talk about coloured entertainers.
Disclosure: My best friend was the son of a Jewish immigrant. My father was very dark, and could easily have passed as a lowbrow Mexican or perhaps Centramerican. I actually thought he was "black" till my black preschool mistress disabused me of it. My wife is a quadroon. So perhaps I'm a bit biassed.
I think you're on the wrong message board, though I'm not entirely sure how you managed to mistype "stormfront" as "reason" in your web browser.
How come no Martians in the cast of Hamilton when a green man ges to play him on the ten dollar bill ?
Well Mr. Coen, it's like this. Folks like you have repeatedly given unflagging support to politicians that endorse this nonsense, so now you get to sleep in the bed you helped make. Sorry if that offends your artistic sensibilities.
That's the part of the equation they never seem to grasp.
Oh come now, the rules are for the little people.
Are they raging progtards, or are we just making assumptions because they're Hollywood?
This?
They who sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind!
I really enjoy watching progressives eat their own. "Wait, I'm not one of *them*! I'm a progressive! *Sob*!"
It's just too tasty.
The thing is, the Coen's likely do believe that fancy pants artistes are above the rules.
For the larfs, go read the article about this and the following comments on Jezebel.
Why would I play with my own feces... I mean read Jezebel?
My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do..

And if you want to save 15% or more on car insurance you switch to Geico. It's what you do.
IN the new Coen bros movie, it would have been hilarious if they cast blacks in servant roles for jokes. But then what?
I Grew up in Montgomery, AL in the 50's and 60's. The White Citizens Council produced a list of 10 things about blacks. The only one I can remember is "they will never be satisfied." That statement is just as true today as it was then.
Wait, Congress was called 'The White Citizens Council' back then?

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail.

"the fact of the matter is that blacks, relative to their percentage of the population, have been over-represented in some sense, not under-represented."
"blacks"....,,,why don't you use the word you really want to use......darkies.....hehe
Apparently, living in a post-racial society means turning every single event into a brouhaha about racism.
