Alicia Keys Will Be Paul Ryan's Bae If He Passes Criminal Justice Reform
Supporters of criminal justice reform looking to get something done in the twilight of the Obama administration.

Singer Alicia Keys has a crush on Speaker Paul Ryan, or at least she's willing to have one if he'll help get a criminal justice reform bill through Congress. The singer released a new video today through her advocacy group We Are Here. She calls on Ryan to bring a criminal justice reform bill up that would roll back mandatory minimum sentencing requirements.
The video is part of a campaign to get people to contact Ryan and urge him to bring the bill to a vote. While Ryan has pledged to bring a number of criminal justice bills that were passed by the Judiciary Committee to the floor for debate, he has not set a timeline, saying that was up to House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy.
Some of the bipartisan support for eliminating mandatory minimums, however, has eroded as the Republican presidential contest took a hard swerve toward "tough on crime" rhetoric. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who glommed on to the libertarian streak in the Republican party to build his profile since joining the Senate, has now turned on the effort against mandatory minimum sentencing, saying it could put "dangerous felons" on the streets. Cruz's flip-flop is part of a broader trend of some Republicans looking to scuttle the last chance for the Obama administration—a late-comer to the cause of (limited) criminal justice reform—to secure a legislative accomplishment.

I'll be Alicia Keys' Bae any time.
FYI, I watch that first 30 seconds... I pretend she's talking to me. It almost works.
Apparently, bae is now in Reason's stylebook. Sigh.
Get with the times. Shit, the Millennials are already on their way out, we're making way for the Bicentennials now.
According to the Fourth Turning authors, the correct term is "Homelanders".
And if there's a single network that has its ear to the ground on the latest trends, it's MTV.
http://time.com/4130679/millen.....eneration/
So in March 2015, the network asked more than 1,000 kids who were born after December 2000 what they should be called, generating 544 names including the Navigators, the Regenerators, the Builders, the Bridge Generation, and the winner, the Founders.
Can we just call them overprotected 'tards and be done with it?
The Founders, eh? Better not let Section 31 hear that...

Reason's best headline writer could just be taking the piss.
They really like British military vehicles or something.
What the fuck is a BAE?
Awesome, but the way she signed that is gonna make Paul think he got a love letter from Verbal Kint.
Hoooly shit, can this lady lie.. This is a skill that can't be taught.
But if I'm a progressive, why do I care whether she was going to run or not when she took money from Goldman Sachs? I guess the whole "buying influence thing", but regardless, she is still made unclean by associating with the rich and their money.
Yes, and if I'm a feminist why should I care if Bill Clinton is a rapist as long as he is not a Republican
In progworld, it's campaign donations and corporate donations under Citizens United that corrupt politicians, not speaking fees, so it's okay.
She is such a fuck
She was the only one in the country that didn't know she was running. So her defense is that she is the dumbest person in America.
Sounds legit when you put it that way
"You know when I was secretary of State several times I said you know I think I'm done.
A lot of people thought that.
LOL, Goldman Sachs is "on notice" from Clinton. Sure. Yep.
Would that be the same Goldman Sachs that's "questioning capitalism" because the government's ongoing stimulus efforts aren't creating a large enough wealth effect?
Even if you take her at her word, what the fuck kind of excuse is that? "Yeah, I took money from people I had a conflict of interest with. How was I to know it would become an issue?" I guess I can give her points for sheer mendacity.
They're asking the wrong question.
The amount she *accepted* is irrelevant. If you offered *me* $200k to come talk to you I'd be on the next plane out. Nothing wrong with charging what the market will bear (though her idiot base has this whole 'inequality' hangup).
The questions that should be asked are - is this the going rate for this sort of thing? Doesn't it look an awfully lot like payment for influence? Payments you received while still serving in the government. Can you honestly say that your insights alone were worth 3/4 of a million dollars to those people or is it *access* that was worth paying that much?
Man, she seems very skilled at "not knowing things", like, oh, whether something might be secret or not.
I wonder if "not knowing" might work with the IRS if I take some additional deductions?
That fucking hag should be driven into the nearest swamp head first!
Would If she were more pregnant.
oh, i larfed
By the way, you missed your calling as star of this TV program
I actually showed him that clip awhile back. Great minds
Also, would @ Mark Heap
Nice.
Rhys Darby was on the last episode of the X-Files, which was hilarious, and he was fantastic as usual.
Interesting. I used to watch the original. Maybe I will have to check it out
There've been three episodes. The first episode was terrible , the second was okay, and the third was really fun.
Did he play a swearwolf?
Excellent taste, lap. Wouldn't, but would watch.
The "good AIDS" bit made me laugh again
I like how he has to think about a few of them.
My favorite was the "haha No"
Would
I came here to say that
Well? Are you doing to say it or not?
Would

Well, that's a better name than Vote or Die, I guess.
Stop. Just. Stop.

Swizz Beatz is going to be pissed.
Ryde or die.
"The singer released a new video today through her advocacy group We Are Here."
And its totally NOT a PR vehicle! Its been a tireless advocate for.... whatever issues happens to be trending on twitter for like a really long hey whats that shiny thing over there!?
Well, out of the things currently trending on social media, it was either police reform or this.
Bitch you know what i meaned.
It was all like "why must migrant children drown!?" in the Fall... then "If we all hold hands and sing together, we'll finally have Gun Control!" after san berdoo... and we'll probably get a hastag about "Criminal Justice" any day now... before a whale washes up in Oregon or there's a dry spell and we're reminded that Climate Changes is ending the world.... and so on.
which reminds me... did Michelle Obama ever get her girls back from Boko Haram? that thing sorta went the way of Kony 2012
Boko Haram burnt 82 children alive last week, I think it made a 2nd level link at CNN.com; as there was no Progressive angle (i.e., none of those kids were up for an Oscar), it didn't warrant a mention on MSNBC.com.
You know who else burned children alive?
Oh, how could i forget the planetary tragedy of the #OscarsSoWhite
"Boko Haram burnt 82 children alive last week"
ah.
I looked for some reporting on that. I found this. which strangely had a link in the sidebar to this. (the site is nigerian?) which had the following comment =
" Eva Mumbi 3 months ago
can I get a ibo man n kidnapp me now?"
which i believe was meant as a "Mmm mmm damn that man is fine" remark. But given i was still thinking about Boko Haram, it .... well..... you can see how that might be a little awk-werrd....
I am looking at a pregnant female who is willing to be someone's baby. I see. I have a few female cats come around every year trying to pull that one. I am not falling for that shit.
Would. The fact that my tastes are running so closely to Crusty's is worrying.
Creepy video.
But about that pic... It's a good start. How about an anarchy "A" for the next set? 😛
Bae means poop in Dutch. Does Paul Ryan have a shit fetish?
I'll give Ed a bit of a pass, assuming bae is some hipster designation, but it's a mystery to me.
This thread...nominated for a Grammy!
Why do I keep getting the feeling that criminal justice reform is a bullshit excuse for not legalizing recreational marijuana?
Want criminal justice reform? How 'bout we take the criminal penalties for growing and possessing marijuana all the way down to zero?
How 'bout we get rid of probable cause for marijuana offenses entirely?
Even in the proverbial "community", being put away for too long isn't anywhere near as big of a problem as being hassled, arrested, and put in the system for something that shouldn't even be illegal in the first place. And it isn't just the police that are the problem in the community. Let's take some of the profit out of being in a gang.
Every time I hear something about justice reform and getting rid of mandatory minimums, I can see the support for legalizing marijuana getting the short shrift. The reasonable sentence for marijuana "offenses" is never getting pulled over, never getting searched, never getting arrested, never being indicted, never going to court, not being found guilty of anything--and being sentenced to nothing.
Whoa, ken, whoa. Repealing laws is off the table.
