Free State Project Crosses 90 Percent Threshold, Gets Closer To Triggering Mass Move to NH
Over 18,000 people have pledged to move to New Hampshire and fight for smaller government. When the number hits 20,000, the big move occurs.
Will 2016 be the year that the Free State Project (FSP) becomes a reality?
The Free State Project is an unprecedented movement—once 20,000 libertarians pledge to participate, it will "Trigger the Move," and they will make their way to New Hampshire within five years. The organization has now exceeded 90% of its goal with more than 18,000 pledged participants, and almost 2,000 "early movers" have already made New Hampshire their new home with fresh faces coming in every week.
"This is the culmination of a decade of work and we're just months away from reaching our 20,000 participant goal," says Carla Gericke, President of the Free State Project. "Early movers have purchased about $40 million in New Hampshire real estate, and many have brought businesses and jobs with them."
Reason has been covering the FSP since its inception. Check out our coverage here.

Sounds like terrorism to me.
How are the beaches in New Hampshire this time of year?
This looks like something? Is this something?
Dang. My 5mm suit is in storage.
I really thought you were taller than that.
He is taller; it's the girth that's the problem.
Stop trying to neg me.
It's something in that it surely isn't nothing.
Ain't nobody got time for beaches when you got a duty free port.

You people need to realize that you will never be free in the USA. Need to live in another country. There are many places around the world where the government is happy to leave you alone for the most part with minimal taxes if you are not causing trouble for them, especially foreigners. You just need an independent source of income. In US Federal Government is so powerful you have no chance. Ask those guys in Oregon how well freedom in USA is working out.
What do you mean, ''you people?"
Mr Lizard is going to be furious. You can tell because he blinks.
What do YOU mean, "you people?"
"There are many places around the world where the government is happy to leave you alone for the most part with minimal taxes if you are not causing trouble for them, especially foreigners."
Names, please, and are we to believe these are places that run under the rule of law, or just ones where you can bribe your way to peace if you grease the right palms?
I might have suggested Hong Kong with its very strong adherence to rule of law when it matters, until a buddy of mine sent me this chilling news article today about several bookstore owners that have recently been "disappeared".
Not sure I'd trust the Chi Coms under any circumstances, even if they supposedly grant 'special status'. I have no interest in golf, but: "China golf: Communist Party bans club membership" ( http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-34600544 ).
I'll avoid any government/party that decides golf is a danger to the state.
Yeh, I'd like to know too. Thailand? Costa Rica? Singapore? I can't just up and leave even if I wanted to having been invested here.Things may not always be swell in the USA(or Canada, Australia and New Zealand) but it's far more stable and prosperous than we care to admit or accept; more than many places on earth. I wouldn't trade.
I have several friends/family who have lived in so-called 'freer' places only to come back. The most recent being Costa Rica. For a while it was a trend to go down there. One of my acquaintances went down there for 10 years to conduct business but is now selling because A) after a while the cultural mores are just too much to deal with and B) the government is increasingly left-wing and hostile. In other words, the good times are coming to an end he said. So he's back in NoCal with his family.
However, the considerations shift with Europeans. My cousins in France visited the Czech Republic recently and they told me many French/Italian citizens are doing business there because the government is less intrusive and the country is lovely; particularly Prague. So for them, they find more freedom there.
But would it be so for us?
"But would it be so for us?"
For a froggy who ran a business, I could easily see many places less obnoxious; you could hire some help without signing a 'marriage contract'. But you're also betting it'll stay that way.
In the US we do have the (dwindling) umbrella of the Constitution, for whatever it's worth. Youse guys? Dunno.
I invested in a company in Florida with an American friend. He does business across North America. Without a doubt he told me the most commie place he has to deal with is not Quebec or Massachusetts. It's California. We have NOTHING like what he describes. In fact, it's as if it's downright saner here. He was hoping to move to San Diego one day but he decided against it. No way he told me.
I don't know anymore. I see these Freedom Index surveys and Canada usually ranks ahead of the USA which is suspect to me but then I hear what he tells me and sometimes I wonder.
Rufus, I spend more time in my business navigating between CA regs than I do on, say, new product development.
And they converge; if a new product is in any way subject to CA haz-mat regs, it is dead to me. No way can that product make money even if it passes current regs; it's done.
Crazy. Just plain crazy.
HK is basically a PRC puppet now. Sad, but predictable.
HKers know how to put on a good street protest and express outrage. Occupy Central was pretty incredible with an actual goal and high stakes. I don't expect a constant stream of extralegal PRC kidnappings to go over well with the population at large.
And where, pray tell, would you suggest?
I think they picked a bum state. NH is becoming bluer with an exodus of Massachusetts residents among others.
this
True, but having all those liberty activists in one place could result in something interesting even if the libertarian voting bloc thing doesn't work out.
NEEDZ MOAR MILISHUZ!!
No problem. They can just redefine libertarianism as progtardism lite and declare victory. Worked for Reason and Cato.
Awww, did you lose your binky? Did some mean kid grab your binky?

Wow, can you program using punch cards?
He's a one finger typist.
I knew that was coming.
Corning socks? I don't believe you.
Sorry, I take that back, I was keming.
Yes. In 360 Assembly, at that.
Never graduated to 370? Tsk tsk. Got to keep up with the times, bud!
I think they chose NH partly because it has a very large legislature - 400 in the House.
Having such a large [basically volunteer] legislature is pretty good despite the fact that it tends to draw in large numbers of fleabag real estate agents (no offence to any RE agent peeps that might be reading!) The Executive Council is also a nice check on power if you ask me, though I don't know if the free state people included that as as factor.
Real estate agents or lawyers. Hmm. They both have the dead eyes and plastic grins. Hard choice. I think realtors are stupid enough to be less dangerous.
Yes, more than 20K lefty Massholes move to NH every year. The FSP is going to be a piss in the wind even if everybody who pledged 10-15 years ago actually follows through and moves there.
They FSP people should just resign themselves and move to Boston. There are more restaurants there anyhow, amirite?
Massholes?
My problem is, their property taxes are as high as NJ.
I migrated to NH in 1997 as a child of divorce and was a generic liberal at the time. It sucked here for the first several years as a teenager primarily due to culture shock, but it became increasingly more enjoyable after I got the agency to withdraw* early from a terrible public high school at the age of 16. I found my identity not in the school prison yard but as a working adult. I have been here for well over half my life and the totality of my adult life.
From time to time I hear the pathetic whinging from some "New Hampshirites", often Massachusetts immigrants (income tax refugees?), lament the threat of anarchist invaders changing "their" state and way of life. I have heard every wild characterisation of these so-called invaders, even as extreme as retarded unsubstantiated rumours that most of them swingung white separatist.
Tell you what: I haven't interacted with a single free-stater during my time here, but I wholeheartedly invite you here with open arms. I won't be helping anyone out by participating in welcome wagon circlejerkers because that's never been my bag, but I promise that in any discussion where I hear scumbags decry your migration here, I will very vocally chide and bust balls to defend your prerogative to do so. I want you here.
*Footnote: you can thank the Hon. Maggie Hassan, present Governor, for her agitation for, and ultimate success in, making public school or equivalent virtually compulsory until the age of 18. May she rot in hell and fail in her bid for the Senate.
She's not forcing them to subsidize her husband's school?
Well this will be awkward when none of them actually move...
Yeah, there's not a chance in hell, but if you're from NH, at least you can breathe a sigh of relief that you won't be swamped with 20k neckbearded IT guys overnight.
Don't forget the four wives and five children those guys will bring along. 20009 people.
I have family in Keene - there's a definite vibe in the area.
You know who else enjoyed a vibe in a certain area?...
Chris Matth, uh, I mean, The Beach Boys?
Every pornstar ever?
Your cold blooded mom?
Me, cuz I enjoy my Vibe kayak in many aquatic areas.
Ew.
Would?
Reptiles?
DC comics?
1man1jar?
The Beach Boys?
Disproportionate concentration of Pontiac owners in Keene? Cite please.
As far as I can tell, they don't have the Soul to Fit into anything else.
I'm not sure I get your Vibe. Maybe I need you to say another Versa or 3 for me to get the point. Or better yet, present it in the form of a decision Matrix and iM sure to follow.
Yaris all boring me.
You are the Scion of bad puns.
This sub thread is a Fusion of idiocy.
We have family in Dublin and Peterborough (both close to Keene), including the brother-in-law who first passed along his subscription to Reason to me years ago. It's a pretty cool and beautiful area, overall. I hear the multiple plagues of various seasonal bugs (black flies, no-see-ums, gnats, etc all take a turn) make things difficult at times, though. Screen porches seem to be a must.
Yeah, in the northeast that's pretty much a requirement everywhere except cities bigger than a million people or so.
I'm guessing not Peterborough, Ontario home of the Petes, right?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peterborough_Petes
Growing up in Rochester, I used to get a Peterborough tv station sometimes when the air was just right. It was so exotic.
I am sure Bob Gainey made it that much more sexy.
Occupy Nude Hamster!
Would.
many have brought businesses and jobs with them
This is a signal for you suckfucks up in Concord to not lower the business income tax rate even a percentage of a point, as it might induce hordes of Atlas Shrugged-thumping robber barons and Molotov-hurling anarchist boogeypersons to bring profitable businesses to the state.
PROFIT IS EXPLOITATION!!!!!!!!
In women-in-prison news, a model/DJ named Angie Vu has some fascinating...legal dilemmas.
OK, let's see if I can puzzle this out.
A few years back, Vu, who was born in Vietnam (and may still be Vietnamese, since the Vietnamese consul is sticking up for her), had a fling with a Frenchman whose name, which I'm totally not making up, is Froger. The result was a daughter.
Though Froger and Vu apparently aren't married, Froger got a French court to award him custody.
Last year (Nov. 4), Vu was arrested in the U.S. while trying to leave the country with her daughter, who was on loan to her at the time, though she was supposed to bring the daughter back to Froger.
The daughter has now been given to Froger, and a French court has accused Vu of parental kidnapping, or something like that.
The French have asked the U.S. to extradite Vu. While waiting the outcome of the extradition hearing, Vu is in prison without bail, though the U.S. magistrate judge said he wished he could spring her.
Another story on the same topic.
CAUTION: Pictures
I would sooo motorboat her...legal dilemmas
Don't bruise your face beating them against such silicone inflated balloons.
Looking carefully, I think they're...real, actually.
I don't believe that. Skinny and beautiful women with boobs like that are pretty much unicorns. And Vietnamese, to boot. Not the bustiest ethnicity. It's just really good surgery.
WHO CARES??!!?! I would drink her bathwater just to hear her fart over the telephone!! She is fucking hotter than a thousand supernovas!!!
correction - according to the stories, the French authorities had told her to return the daughter by Aug. 29 but she didn't, and tried to go to Asia instead, instead of to France where Dad was waiting.
Someone is pleased with her modifications.
Those actually look pretty real to me, at least compared to the ubiquitous bad implants you see that have shelf-like edges, as if they just shoved in inverted soup bowls.
Those are horrible titties.
Horrible titties.
They look like hard balloons.
Look at the pics in the second story. They fit her body and sag just the right way.
"I want to believe!!!!"
On further review, they might be saline.
Real or fake, they look silly.
they look silly salty.
C., I thought we were on the same page.
You've been bamboozled. Hornswoggled, even!
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix.....276428.jpg
Really? Why is there even a debate?
I'm as disgusted as you are.
She probably didn't help her case in this interview last month:
"She hopes the judge will see her as a caring mom and not some sexpot with no respect for the law.
"(The prosecutor) can use as many photos of me in sexy outfits to go to events or in bikinis on the beach, naked in Playboy ...," she said.
"But there are many photos of her shaking hands with former President Bill Clinton and pictures of her and her daughter on the cover of a family magazine, she noted."
With RICH CUTRONE
Not sure how RICH CUTRONE wormed his way in there.
I am not sure that being seen with Bill Clinton helps her case much.
Not guilty.
And I hate fake ones. But still.
Last year (Nov. 4), Vu was arrested in the U.S. while trying to leave the country with her daughter, who was on loan to her at the time, though she was supposed to bring the daughter back to Froger.
I think even bullshit "sexy DJs" with stupid implants deserve to be able to spend time with their kids, but I don't have sympathy for someone who tries to take their kid away from their other parent. The government I don't care about, but trying to sneak her daughter away from the dad to another country? She sounds like a bitch.
Also, I agree, the "but I'm a good mom, I met Bill Clinton and appeared on a family magazine!" argument doesn't indicate very good things about her character.
"Met"
OT: Beating the links to the punch: Female teacher, 44, charged with sexually assaulting 16-year-old boy in her house... while his mother was sitting at the dinner table downstairs
Down syndrome Leann Rhimes? No thanks.
But the crying in the mugshot might float your boat.
Would.
Hang on, lemme find a teacher sex offender that's for to my liking. I saw it the other day.
You're Welcome
Oddly the pics with her in prison jammies and the nerd look better than her mugshot that kind of looks to me like someone stole her from a Macy's display. Still, those were some lucky teens. I'm sure the 19-year-old the article mentions has been through extreme trauma.
Plus: Utah.
She's probably so repressed that she does cool shit that I don't even know about yet.
I don't think he was 19 at the time of the Events in Question, and trauma or not, *something* made him not fully adjusted:
"The same victim suing the school district pleaded guilty in January for trying to prevent the teacher's prosecution and threatening a witness, Deseret News reported."
See? Satisfied customer!
Bang the teacher and get a big payout. Score!
"The teacher's rampant sex romps with students became so obvious that "Who is Ms. Altice sleeping with now?" became a running joke within the school's hallways."
Self-destructive tendencies? Abject stupidity?
I mean was this woman capable of thinking beyond tomorrow and didn't her supervisor get a hint?
Her supervisor got something.
Bonus points for runny mascara. That's tres hot.
That's nothing, I can show you a hot picture of the most insatiable seductress ever.
So...nobody's falling for my link this time?
I mean, nobody wants to be titillated by my hot link?
I know from the link that it's going to be horse fucking.
When he was playing tennis my friend sometimes had international players stay at his house. A player he befriended from Italy came to stay with his mother. Long story short, she went into my buddy's room and fucked him.
I'm still jealous 25 years later.
A real criminal mastermind.
Sexually assaulted.
A sixteen year old boy.
This is not possible.
George Costanza themed bar to open in Melbourne
It's my instinct to not go there.
Well, I know where my next vacation is.
Celebration, Florida?
In Georgetown, Texas (near Austin), the local museum decides to hold a fundraiser.
I bet that at their meeting they said, "what we need is something low-key, something totally non-controversial."
"The event, called "The Old South Ball," is scheduled for Jan. 30 at the historic Williamson County Courthouse.
"Participants ? who are asked to dress in costume ? will be doing dances from the 1860s, and refreshments will resemble those served during the era, including "Chatham Artillery Punch," a potent mixture that includes rum, bourbon and fruit soaked in brandy....
"The Georgetown City Council gave the museum a $1,500 grant to help promote the dance..."
That grant is a bit niggardly.
Why you racist!
And here I thought Grant was one the good guys!
"Chatham Artillery Punch,"
That's from Savannah, GA. The Chatham artillery was a bunch of wealthy 1%ers with the patriotic hobby of drilling with crew-served weapons. As could be expected of such a militia in their day they were the equal of professional soldiers in a fight but they are best known for the still-popular hard-partying beverage which bears their name.
A museum running a Civil War exhibit hosts a fundraising dance and the usual suspects turn it into a grievance/preening session with the media there to cover the moral outrage. I for one am shocked at this development.
Criticizing innocent people for not being victims of state racism does not indicate your high moral standing, not that a buzzword-spouting idiot like this has any to begin with. The culture of victim-honor is reaching absurd heights, as now we're apparently supposed to resent people for nothing more than their failure to be victims.
A dripping space station wobbling among the sterile wreckage of progress.
Space Docking?
