Surgery to repair damage to the spine of Roger Carlos has instead left him paralyzed from the chest down. Three San Antonio, Texas, police officers left Carlos with herniated discs in his neck and other injuries after they beat him when they mistook him for a drug suspect. Carlos has no criminal record. A police discipline board recommended they be suspended for 15 days for the beating. Police Chief William McManus instead suspended them for five days. All three used accrued leave time for their suspensions.

They were suspended for 15 days late last year, but Police Chief William McManus cut their punishment to five days just before taking a planned retirement.

"Clearly it was a case of mistaken identity," McManus said last year. "From the report that I've read, from the photo that I saw, and from (reporters') description, I've not seen anything at this point that would indicate to me that anything out of order happened."

I think I may have found the root problem in this department.

The greater a dope-attic's pain the more analgesics the pitiful wretch requires at prohibition inflated prices. This translates into additional bribe money, graft and payola for them that have the right connections enabling them to thread their way past the enforcement bureaucracy to supply that demand--usually from the stash confiscated from the previous one beaten to a bloody pulp and jailed at taxpayer expense. This is bi-partisan justice.

The Fist-linked article says: "The SWAT officers were identified as Carlos Chavez and Virgilo Gonzalez, but the undercover drug task force officer was not identified due to the nature of his job."
This is how secret ballots protect freedom, just as secret skulking narcs protect our freedom. If folks could look up a password and verify how their votes actually got counted, or discover who these thugs are, it'd be anarchy!

This is a conservative drug education technique known as "getting his attention." Ponder for a minute what the brave and unnamed officers would have done to the suspect had he actually BEEN a dope-addled avatar of Satan. There before you is exemplified the wisdom of how law enforcement sets examples for the edification of they who might otherwise be led astray. Thank God Texas is a Christian nation with freedom or justice for all!
