You'll Never Guess Which Students Want a Pro-Gay Film Screening Cancelled Because It's Too Offensive
Colorado College queer students think 'Stonewall' film promotes violence.

Conservative students at Colorado College think Stonewall (2015)—a pro-gay film about gay liberation in New York City that bears the tagline "where pride began"—is too offensive to be shown on campus and want the administration to cancel an upcoming screening.
Just kidding. It's actually gay student activists affiliated with the college's LGBTQIA+ group who object to the film, which was directed by openly gay filmmaker Roland Emmerich and positively depicts gay people fighting for equality in 1969.
According to The Catalyst, Colorado College's independent student newspaper:
A group of concerned students called for a boycott of the screening and created a group, Radicals Against Institutional Damage (R.A.I.D.). The group sent a letter signed by nine to key administration on campus expressing their views.
"This film is discursively violent," write the activists. "In a world where cisgender, white gay people have finally achieved "marriage equality" and many see the struggle as being over, it is reinforcing a hierarchy of oppression to invent someone who never existed and place them in a historically-based film with the express purpose of silencing more marginalized groups."
The film is based on historical events but is not an accurate retelling, and many have accused it of overlooking the important role that racial minorities and gay women played in the Stonewall riots; the cast is mostly white and male. But the college's Film and Media Studies Department is quite aware of the controversy, and thought a screening of the film featuring producer Adam Press would be the perfect venue for a discussion of Stonewall's cinematic shortcomings. Film criticism is, after all, a fundamental component of a college's film department—or should be, at least.
But the students aren't having any of it:
"Critical discussion is simply a way of engaging in respectability politics," said first-year Amelia Eskani. "I think Colorado College should cancel the screening because the safety and well-being of queer and trans* students surpasses the importance of a critical discussion." …
"If CC is really as dedicated to diversity and inclusion," said junior Grace Montesano, "They would never have agreed to screen a film that queer students have repeatedly stated is a threat to our identity and our safety." …
"It is fallacious to equate the rights of students to view a movie with the rights of students to exist free of violence."
That's right: the film isn't merely offensive to gay and trans students (despite having a truly gay-affirming message), it's actively dangerous to their physical well-being, according to R.A.I.D.
This is a complaint emotionally-coddled students often make: that some kind of expression is so triggering that allowing it to proceed constitutes an act of violence. Such complaints are usually pure hyperbole, but hyperbole doesn't even begin to cover the opinions of Colorado College's precious snowflakes. If screening Stonewall on campus is an act of violence against queer students, what would students say about, I don't know, a Kirk Cameron film? Pure genocide? Would a visit to campus from Mike Huckabee or Rick Santorum result in mass fainting spells?
The college initially caved to demands for censorship and indefinitely postponed the screening, according to The College Fix. But a spokesperson for the film department told me the event was back on and would take place Thursday evening.
Maybe the 2015 version of Stonewall was the wrong film to show; a quick Wikipedia search suggests superior cinematic treatments of the subject do exist. But students who demand safe-space protection from art that doesn't quite live up to expectations are truly pitiful. They will never be able to interact with anyone outside the pathetic bubble they have created for themselves.

Yeah, that headline is so trollsome that I won't dignify it by commenting.
But deservedly so!
If you're going to troll with the headline, you don't want to give it away in the subtitle.
Nobody reading that headline has any doubt what the answer is: it's probably not going to be a young conservatives outfit. Even lefties have to be getting tired of this bullshit.
But "gay student activists affiliated with the college's LGBTQIA+" is trolling, right? Surely Robby is taking the piss out of LGBT groups. No chance that's an authentic acronym.
How would I be able to tell? I'm old enough to remember back when it was "LGB."
I remember when ti was BLT and you ate it.
I'm old enough to remember when it was just 'fags'.
It is most certainly an authentic acronym. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual.
That's not a joke. I mean... yes, it's very funny and is as meaningful as a joke, but it's very serious to the people who created it and use it.

Can you really call yourselves radicals when you are raging pussies asking for authority figures to protect you from your own feelings?
In a world where cisgender, white gay people have finally achieved "marriage equality" and many see the struggle as being over...
That would be a great voiceover for a teaser trailer for the film.
...the safety and well-being of queer and trans* students surpasses the importance of a critical discussion.
You are absolutely not helping the cause. In fact, the word hindrance comes to mind.
This is a complaint emotionally-coddled students often make...
Because it's a card we let them successfully play. We enable them.
Yeah, if they're as sensitive as they seem to be, a quick "shut up, we're doing the film" should scare them off.
But they got an initial cancellation of the movie, showing them that their opponents are even weaker than they are.
do you pronounce the asterisk in trans*?

What the hell does it mean anyway? Is it a depiction of a snowflake? Or perhaps does it represent an anal sphincter?
I believe it's pronounced transterisk
You mean gay black people haven't achieved marriage equality?

Don't tell me...Blazing Saddles, right?
Yes, indeed, it is.

I kind of love that they reflexively added "white" to their statement. Who knew that gay marriage only benefited white gay people?

What kind of *philistine* would do a film like that?
Does Hollywood know about this egregious violation of their standards?
LMAO!!! Thanks UGCC!
I dunno. It's hard to get to the Truth about stuff like that.
Would a visit to campus from Mike Huckabee or Rick Santorum result in mass fainting spells?
Is that different from the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz their visits normally produce?
bring me the soft mat that I use for my daily, not-medically-significant fainting spells!
Mass farting spells. Much funnier.
...a quick Wikipedia search suggests...
Oh, Rico.
What's wrong with Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is one of the best things that the internet has come up with, and I say that with 100% sincerity.
Wait, was that sarcasm?
Absolutely not. I use Wikipedia as a resource for technical information very frequently. It's an incredible example of an emergent, non-centralized phenomenon that surpasses the centrally planned alternatives. And it puts an incredible wealth of knowledge at the finger tips of anyone in the world, for free.
Wikipedia is the best thing ever if you are writing a thesis; however, I get the impression that there is creeping leftiness getting inside and that's not okay.
Yes, if you want any information that's BadThink or ThoughtCrime, you have to look at other sources.
If you want to learn about tropical cyclones, there's no better place.
Do they cover topical cyclones?
Meh, wikipedia is an internet encyclopedia; it has about the same value as an encyclopedia, but is faster to get to and more comprehensive, but not necessarily more accurate.
It is, after all, editable by the public at large, and therefore stupidity is inevitably still pervasive.
With any source of information of the internet, one must be wary, consult multiple sources, etc, but within that idea but wiki is very good for a numerous and wide ranging topics and it the limitations of their accuracy is understood it can be an only source for good answers.
Easy rule is, if the information you're searching for can have any political implications, then wiki is crap, but there's literally a infinite number of topics, which so far anyway, have not been infected with politics (eg matgh, physics, etc).
It's not like the 100% reliable NYT?
It's a fine subject for a movie, I suppose, but having seen many Roland Emmerich films, I'm not sure I can fathom sitting through two hours of his direction of things that are not exploding buildings/cities/continents.
That's the second time on this thread that I've refrained from a really tasteless joke. You're welcome.
I thought that this movie was problematic because it portrayed a straight-acting white gay man as one of the leaders of Stonewall. The role of transsexuals and cross-dressers was minimized. But that was critique from a few weeks ago, I didn't know the movie was dangerous to the physical well-being.
You're lucky to have lived through it.
That is the criticism. That's why it's dangerous.
Is dangerous the new problematic?
Asking that question is not ok.
I don't feel safe when you say things like that.

Please, someone punch this professionally-butthurt little muffin directly in the...oh, wait, maybe she (he? It?) doesn't have a cvnt. Well, in any case, find that place where its legs meet up, and kick it there until it falls down and shuts up.

Excellente! Good on the memory thing too !
Anyway. In case anyone was wondering who they should vote for in the Mississippi run for Agriculture Commissioner here is the answer.
http://www.wapt.com/news/centr.....h/36223036
Unless of course you laughed at Bush when he said nuclear. or agriculture. or ethonol. or a lot of things
I'm wondering why we're putting any weight on what an 18 year old might have to say about intellectual dialogue.
First year student? Shut the fuck up!
If it were one person it wouldn't be worth paying attention to. But it does seem to be part of an increasingly common trend that will either burn itself out or burn the rest of us society to the ground. Either way, someone's getting burned.
But is he gay ?
Cuz if he is gay that means he is smart and should be listened to.
First off, it's "Freshman" not "first-year". It needs to be "freshman" so we all remember, "You never listen to college freshman, they are idiots"
And I'm guessing someone's FYE (First year experience. CC has your first two blocks (7 weeks) of your freshman year taking a class with a group of people who you're supposed to bond with and shit.) was in the Fem-Gen Department.
Honestly, I want to know who raised her. Because she hasn't just picked this shit up whole cloth in 2 months (it would take a bit longer to really get the terminology this well, I think)- she came in with some of it to CC (and then, CC being CC, they aided, abetted, and made it worse)
Yeah, no question.
Agreed on CC. Lived in the Springs for a while - great place, but CC is small, expensive, and further left than Obama.
No question then when an adult (18) cried to them about being physically hurt if a certain movie to be shown, instead of being told to grow up, were likely given mental health services, group therapy, and Xanax.
How wide can such a delicate snowflake be expected to succeed?
And I'm sure their future employers will be just as accommodating, so CC faculty and staff can praise themselves for the lives saved as well as diligently ensuring these young adults are prepared to succeed in the world outside of school.
"respectability politics"
What?
Someone tell these people they can't just make up words willy nilly.
I'm going to go engage in hamburger chair-obfuscation while blue-domiciling my cat's dialectical chirality. What? None of that made sense to you? Clearly you haven't read the latest article of Sociologica you hicks.
I think they mean that by engaging it at all, they would be giving the bad idea respectability. The implication being the idea is so against everything we know, that even refuting it gives it weight it didn't deserve.
Of course that works if someone is trying to argue that the Earth is flat, in that trying to prove it wrong is almost a tacit admission that the idea has substance.
However, it doesn't work so much on whether the actor selection in a gay civil rights film is somehow detrimental to watchers; it typically only works on real "truths" (things which are always true versus the 90% or more of things any given generation believers is true, but turns out to be false later, such as phrenology).
But considering their claim is physical distress due to the showing of a film, I doubt seriously they have the critical thinking skills required to understand the difference.
In fact unlike the first Earth example, it seems obvious that their point isn't to prove their ideas/beliefs correct, but to shut down debate completely and assume the silence from opposing ideas not allowed to be aired proves their echo chamber supported of ideas correct.
I'm not exactly sure what kind of society we're building, but inability to question ideas seems like a major step backwards. One small step for idiots, but a giant leap for mankind back to the dark ages.
Reminds me of how the scientific thinkers in the D party keep trying to push 1800's technology (rail) as progress.
Google is your friend.
"Respectability politics or the politics of respectability refers to attempts by marginalized groups to police their own members and show their social values as being continuous and compatible with mainstream values rather than challenging the mainstream for its failure to accept difference."
I know it sounds like bullshit, but it actually happens, like how black people historically tried to be 'respectable' by acting white.
That said, critical discussion, i.e. using your F**KING BRAIN, has nothing to do with it.
So, how does some black people disparaging other black people as "acting white" because they go to school, get jobs, and obey the law fit into 'respectability politics.'
I'm not sure what it sounds like, but it does indeed smell like bullshit.
queer and trans* students
Honest question: how do you vocalize the wildcard?
Hysterical sobbing.
+1 microaggressions.
something goose something gander...
Now all you have to do is scream TRIGGER WARNING and MICROAGGRESSION!
Man, this acronym is inflating faster than the Fed money supply.
Tell me about it.
I still haven't figured out what the hell the "Q" is supposed to be ("queer", I know, but what the hell's that?).
It makes me think of Hank Hill: "that boy ain't right".
Really? I honestly thought queer was covered under gay, lesbian, and bisexual.
STOP BEING PROBLEMATIC DANGEROUS.
Queer means pretty much anything you want. It's also a common umbrella term.
"It's also a common umbrella term"
As in: "Honey, it might rain today, don't forget to take your queer".
As a gender fluid, pansexual, protohermaphroditic entity that identifies as a muppet that lives in a trash can on a children's show, I am TRIGGERED!!
Have cookie, monster.
From the wiki:
is it like deaf v. Deaf? You don't have to be deaf to be Deaf, and many deaf people aren't Deaf, but damn if Deaf people don't attempt to climb on the backs of deaf people to play SJW for a day.
I'm obviously getting old.
Yet that is why I know for a historical fact that the historical def of queer is weird or out of the ordinary..
I'm glad that people who are deeply offended by labels have found a label for themselves.
I wonder what the term will be for those who consider "queer" too limiting? We might have exhausted the English language at that point.
I think that is what the "+" is intended for?
As I understand it, queer means someone who 'acts gay' or is 'culturally gay' or metrosexual, but does not actually putt from the rough.
So, 'queers' are to sexual orientation what 'wiggers' are to race. As I understand it.
I thought it meant "questioning"
QIA+ = queer, intersex, asexual + allies
Man, the term that pisses me off is "ally". I can't exactly explain why (aside from the implicit othering of said ally as having permanent second-class victim status), but it makes me want to force-choke anyone that uses it unironically.
I am crossing you off of my "allies" list.
In the '90s, it was "LGBTQQ," one Q for queer and the other for questioning. I'm not sure people who just wonder about themselves are respected or included anymore.
"Questioning" is what I heard. I blogged about it once upon a time, very sarcastically, and was roundly condemned for my insensitivity. It was a good day.
Note that "Questioning" only works in one direction. LGBT-IA+ people do NOT get to wonder whether they might actually be straight!
Wow that's pathetic. You actually blog?
I think it means "Questioning," as in asking, "when did the be-nice-to-different-people-thing jump the fucking shark?"
I think a "+" is a person who tucks; a testicle goes to each side of the shaft and from behind, it looks like a plus sign or, more importantly, a sign of male privilege.
The power of privilege compels you!
The way these people talk about how dangerous and harmful movie XYZ is, you'd think it was filled with Langford's basilisks or something.
"If CC is really as dedicated to diversity and inclusion," said junior Grace Montesano, "They would never have agreed to screen a film that queer students have repeatedly stated is a threat to our identity and our safety." ?
If you were really dedicated to inclusion you would have excluded this film.
Emotionally-coddled? HA! You're giving them too much credit, Robby. They're all stupid.
No, I am not being facetious. Being emotionally-cuddled may turn you into a spoiled brat, but the kind of shit these kids are pulling tells me they're simply stupid.
See, that is why I am saying these kids are not merely emotionally-cuddled snowflakes. They're stupid. A smart person would not come up with that string of nonsense even if he or she tried. You would have to have your frontal lobes removed to pull that one off.
It's trained stupidity combined with naive gullibility. When you're so emotionally coddled as a child that you don't grow a good BS meter (because mommy protected you from ever having a negative emotion), you're primed for buying into some of these idiotic worldviews. Then, once one of these gullible morons have their brains massaged and molded by these radical statists, they are trained in stupidity such that they think they are smart for spewing nonsensical jargon with no real meaning.
Naively gullible kids are abused by radical people in places of authority to train them in stupidity.
You would have to have your frontal lobes removed to pull that one off.
Are you ever a cerebrotypicalist shitlord.
Censorship is a cancer.
In related news-
"Sometimes you don't even need to see a movie or read its script or even see an ad for it and you know that it's obviously, deeply, incredibly problematic.Such is the case with Tomboy. I mean, can you even with this headline?"
Seriously though, this shit is insane. I'm beginning to wonder if we need ISIS or someone to just take over for a few years so we can go back to realizing why everything is not in fact problematic.
The script, written by Hill from a story by Denis Hamill, centers on an ace assassin who is double-crossed by gangsters and falls into the hands of rogue surgeon known as "The Doctor," who turns him into a woman.
Wait, wait, if this doctor is so good he can turn a man into Michelle Rodriguez, why doesn't he just go legit and become a billionaire being the world's greatest plastic surgeon?
In this case I see no problem with letting the problematic police scotch this movie.
Hell, if I knew I'd end up looking like Michelle Rodriquez, *I* might try turning into a woman: I'd love me some of that Latino Hot Girl privilege. But, no, I'd just look like the effing fugliest chick that ever walked the earth.
"Latina." Man, I probably traumatized somebody into a coma with that mistake.
"But, no, I'd just look like the effing fugliest chick that ever walked the earth."
You've obviously never met my ex-wife's mother.
Well see ..what happened was..
he got his doctoring pemit rejected by the cis normative overlords who tried to prevent him from helping people realize their true selves and he had to go underground without a license even though Bernie and Hillirary, especiall Hilliary, wanted to help the majority of minorities who are lesbians trapped in a man's body who were born as females but then gendered shifted into their true selves so I blame Booooosh.
Sigourney Weaver plays the doctor.
I'm assuming that site is parody, but I'm not sure.
Kinda sad that we've come to the point where we actually worry whether or not it is, isn't it?
It's parody, all right. But the stuff it cites is pure, sincere, SJW outrage.
That "problematic" site is riveting. People actually say things like that? I knew in theory that they did, I simply hadn't seen so many examples grouped together in one satirical blog.
So Emmeline Pankhurst, a British votes-for-women supporter of the previous century, once said she'd rather be a rebel than a slave. Modern actresses doing a movie about Pankhurst put that slogan on their shirts.
It took me a bit of time to figure out what was wrong with this. But apparently, it sounds like a reference to the American Civil War, where the rebels were slaveholders.
Fuck me, weren't the good guys in Star Wars called "The Rebel Alliance"?
Weren't there some rebels in the history of the U.S., sometime before the Confederates (or, technically, their enemies) used the term?
How could I have missed something so offensive?
And check out Wikipedia...they used the racist word as well!
I loved the one for The Martian-
I bet you thought that The Martian?a movie that stars a woman as the leader of a mission of astronauts who go to Mars, a woman who is a computer genius on the mission, and multiple women on the ground who help get the marooned Mark Watney home to safety?was pretty good on gender roles. What you forgot was that everything's a problem.
Take a look at the pumpkin spice latte one.
I think this was meant seriously: "The pumpkin spice latte is filled with the blood of indigenous peoples and people of color, but also their joy, their sweat, their labor and their love."
You should be a pumpkin spice latte salesman
Yeah, that made it sound totally appetizing.
Please make the foam topping into the shape of a monocle.
She's been there for two freaking months. When did she learn this shit?
Also "respectability politics"
lolwut
Tumblr son
This is what Tumblr chose to foster instead when it banned pro-ana content.
You can still find that stuff if you know where to look.
I had to look up respectability politics
Isn't critical discussion, in which competing ideas are both given roughly equal venues for making their case, the exact opposite of respectability politics?
No. The reason she says that is because arguing within the framework and on the terms of mainstream society--what we understand as traditional Western criticism--is itself giving in to "respectability politics." Think, "I don't have to argue or debate you with logic, in my culture those things don't matter."
This is why this mentality worries me. It seems to so often lead to a rejection of the very things that have transformed life for the better over the last 400-500 years or so.
FIFY
I was roughly going for the Age of Enlightenment, but yeah, the Greeks and Romans had a good run, too.
The problem is that ideas aren't given equal venues. People in a group outside the Overton window still have an Overton window of their own. Just look at threads at H&R where libertarians call anarchists impractical and out of touch.
When anarchists are called out for being impractical and reality-detached, that's not the Overton Window. That's reality. Pretty ironic post considering...
The really ironic part is how you changed the active subject of that last sentence into a passive action. There's a difference between a kettle being called black and a pot calling a kettle black.
Oh okay.
Sorry, I don't quite follow. Is the argument that the audience has to come in as a tabula rasa?
No, the argument is that there is a mainstream even within a minority worldview that is outside the mainstream. Those within that community who deviate from the minority-mainstream aren't given fair hearing even by people who are already a minority and at least theoretically open to views outside of conventional square thought.
But there is a difference between people not considering your views as much as you'd like and not having a venue for them. Anarchists may not carry the day on reason but you (?) all are able to make your case. If people disagree with you they may be close minded or they may just think you're wrong.
And while it may not be practical to follow every thread of every competing idea in an on-campus debate, or a website, or whatever, people who don't feel like their views are being heard are (or should be) welcome to organize another venue and to encourage people to come and listen.
Yeah, and they explicitly criticize the cishomos for being square.
Other than the whining to authorities shtick, I kind of like them. And I'm almost willing to give that to them too as a way of subverting the system.
Please, please stop explaining. You are too good at emulating the horrifying crap that comes from the SJWs.
Excellent handle.
Nikki- It's possible that she got it at CC, because if she got the right FYE she has basically been doing a 7-week intensive Intro to Feminism class (or something like that). At CC, classes meet every day, and some will do both morning and afternoon, so we're talking a lot of time to learn this shit. It is totally possible that she just got all of this from CC.
But it's far more likely that she brought this shit from home.
To elaborate a bit: CC tends to attract the spawn of rich, insufferable liberal. Kids who don't need to worry too much about money and are to the left of Karl Marx. I lived with one such case my senior year.
They teach this crap in high school these days. Maybe even kindergarten.
In all seriousness, in the next few years I will be positively disappointed if the unemployment rate goes *below* 10%. At least a tenth of the population has to be utterly unemployable. To me, the idea that some of these people are out there with jobs and responsibilities frightens me.
They would never have agreed to screen a film that queer students have repeatedly stated is a threat to our identity and our safety
I can't help but feel that this statement reveals an awful lot about the mentality of these students. They assume that their view is valid simply because they have stated it. There isn't even a token attempt to justify their feelings. They want something, they have made that clear repeatedly, and they seem truly stunned that that isn't enough to get what they want.
That's a critical part of the whole worldview: that emotions are always justified and must be respected as part of everyone's lived experience.
Does that include my lived experience, in which I've found these contortions of logic and reason to be migraine-inducing?
More of a livid experience, really.
No. You are "problematic."
I wouldn't say it is just "emotions" in their view.
Their argument basically runs that ONLY gay and trans people are allowed to determine if there is a threat. Thus, if a gay or trans person says something is threatening, violent, hurtful, offensive, whatever- you must instantly agree because you don't belong to that group and therefore can't understand. For you to offer a counter opinion would be patronizing 'mansplaining'.
Of course, you may be wondering what happens if a gay professor or a trans administrator tells them that a film isn't a threat? The general playbook seems to be to invent some lens of privilege that is causing the person to be blind to the suffering (so, for example, the administrator is blinded by their white privilege. This argument will likely be made by a white person).
They are free to have whatever emotions they want. I am free to not give a ahit about them.
"They want something, they have made that clear repeatedly, and they seem truly stunned that that isn't enough to get what they want."
That sounds strangely familiar...who else do we associate that kind of mentality with?
Ah, yes, I got it - badly-behaved children.
"In a world where cisgender, white gay people have finally achieved "marriage equality" and many see the struggle as being over, it is reinforcing a hierarchy of oppression to invent someone who never existed and place them in a historically-based film with the express purpose of silencing more marginalized groups."
*vomit*
Please please please let the gay white/ gay colored split be a thing. I love it when these cretins eat their own.
FUKIN FAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WADDA THEY WANT????????????????????????
Possibly, this?
I'm not really sure I should click on that.
I don't really have that kind of reputation........do I?

OMG, that's the most perverted stuff I've ever seen on the entire Internet!

Joey...
They must really hate Will & Grace. Gay, white males everywhere in that one.
My mom rents to a gay white couple. They're daffy on anything having to do with GMOs or the environment, and I can only assume their politics is (are?) just as vapid, but they don't wear it (them?) on their sleeves and are otherwise splendid people. And they could have stepped right off the set of W&G without breaking stride.
I loved the drunk broad. She was hilarious.
Fried okra in mac and cheese: maybe as good as it seems in my head?
Negatory.
No.
*Jedi wave*
Your next meal will be Korean short ribs.
If I had Korean shortrib money I wouldn't be shoplifting canned cheese for dinner!
*upends vitamin display, legs it out the entrance*
I settled on enchilada sauce to throw in with my cream and cheddar mix.
Hey, my alma mater (and... P Brooks', as I recall) made reason!
I'm suprised it took so long. I do feel really ashamed actually: my school can't even compete in the big leagues of SJW bullshit0 they are thoroughly second rate. So, it's just like them and hockey lately (HOLY SHIT have they been bad basically this whole decade. I'm guessing big time athletes would rather go to Minnesota or University of Denver than CC- it's 2000ish people so there is no way for the athletes to get away from the bullshit)
Seriously, fuck that school. They are never getting a cent from me for donations.
I bet more bullshit has come out of my school. But we also do sciency shit too.
Also, as an alum, I can answer.
A Kirk Cameron film: A mass email from the President promising to bring the person responsible for bringing a DVD of a Kirk Cameron film to justice; show trial (see "The Monthly Bag" on FIRE about our school for the basic playbook)
A Santorum visit: Christ, that's the apocalypse right there. I think they'd have to cancel classes for a week (to put it in perspective: CC runs the block plan, so you take 1 class at a time for 3 and half a weeks, covering a semester worth of material in basically an intensive class. And I honestly think a Santorum visit would lead to overwhelming calls for missing 1/3 of class time)
CC runs the block plan, so you take 1 class at a time for 3 and half a weeks, covering a semester worth of material in basically an intensive class
I wouldn't think that is a very effective way to learn, but I'm curious how you liked it?
*whispers*
It doesn't work for science.
No, it doesn't.
Good for the humanities though. You can just intensley dig into one particular subject (Civil War and Reconstrcution, 19th Century depictions of race)
But I did know/room with a biochem major who just got his PhD. I mean, he was a great roommate because he was always in the lab. He did not see the sun for days on end.
That's my point below. Cramming is OK for aligning your mind with an interpretation of a story, which is what history, literature, and brainwashing are.
Learning a subject that requires aligning your mind with an objective reality takes more time.
I never knew that history and literature were brainwashing.
Terrible schedule for teaching nearly any serious subject -- understanding requires time to digest.
Excellent schedule for brainwashing, though.
...No, just no. Different people learn differently, and some people do super intense very well. Others need time to digest info, but not all people do.
I mean, to be fair, to do "inhale information" style learning, you need good schemata underneath it all, and I think that is why CC is so "sink or swim"- you either come in knowing/quickly figure out how to learn in that style, or you go somewhere else.
But "not for everyone" and "brainwashing" are different. CC has many flaws, including biased professors, but I think the block plan is not one of them.
My alma mater.
It was a slightly different place in the '70s, for what that's worth. The language in common use was still American English; I have no idea what pidgin dialect they're using in those quotes.
God, I'm only 4, going on 5 years out, and it has gotten worse than I was there (and it wasn't that good then).
The absolute worst human being I know when there from '97-'01.
I can't believe her parents put up with that shit.
In all fairness, she sucked before she went there.
SIL?
No, a girl with whom I had mediocre sexual relations in high school. Not awful, but mediocre is generous.
She's a full blown SJW now, and has never held a meaningful job in her life.
I thought she was living in the White House during that time.
Implying that black gays don't have marriage equality. Which is of patently false. As it currently stands, any two citizens over the age of 18 who are unrelated to each other can get married. No one cares what color they are, what gender they prefer to identify with, whether they used to have a penis and now don't, whether they prefer to be on top or on bottom, or whatever, it's all legal now. Pretending that marriage equality is only for white cisgender gays is stupid.
So, why don't universities and colleges just stop all extracurricular activities and liberal arts classes. Completely. Make the kids sit through math and science classes, and quit grading on a curve. Nose to the grindstone, and if you want to do anything else you have to go off campus and pay extra for it.
Because you can't cash in on the lucrative student loan-financed market of you're not offering the sort of soft-serve pablum students want.
$
duh!
"Critical discussion is simply a way of engaging in respectability politics," said first-year Amelia Eskani.
At least that's what my professor told me.
Disrespectability politics is what they're going for?
Just because it's nonsense doesn't mean she can't believe it.
+1 religious screed
it is reinforcing a hierarchy of oppression to invent someone who never existed and place them in a historically-based film with the express purpose of silencing more marginalized groups.
No shit. It's like having Errol Flynn play George Custer.
Oh look... the grievance industry just can't stop being victims.
We need to light more candles for the victims of oppression. /Big Candle
Listening to the activists talk gets me going. I love having my word salad tossed.
You can't even make that shit up.
It's problematic othering cis gender students through discursive representations of ....
I give up. I can't do it.
I would bang the Lactaid cow so so hard.
A cow with no teets?
Dat ass. Also blue and white is one of my favorite color schemes.
Would it be appropriate to wear a kevlar vest to the screening? Just in case?
These people have outed themselves as being weak-minded jellyfish. Nothing they say or do will ever matter.
As a white gay male I better get my thoughts in quickly before I too am not allowed to have any opinions.
Up against the wall!
I guess we now know what was on the other side of the wall.
As a wall, I must say something that only a wall would understand. You couldn't possibly understand, you not being a wall and all. And yet I still feel the need to tell you this.
Wittgenstein lesson of the day
Wittgenstein was gay. That is all.
This is like talking to a...oops, I almost exposed my bigotry.
the wall with a glory hole in it ?
Did you think you were at the bottom of the victim-hood pile? Nope, you're pretty close to the top. Of course, there's still someone on top of you, not just below you, so you're getting it and giving it at the same time, which some people actually prefer.
What was I talking about again? Wanna say I was thinking of the optimal number of people to have in a circle jerk, but I digress.
"The college administration really does have a duty to foster the space on campus where all viewpoints can be discussed because that is a necessary component of intellectual growth," said an anonymous source within the administration. "The engagement of viewpoints that may offend is an important part of any education and prepares students to engage those viewpoints in the messy way that life forces on all of us. Canceling the film would be eliminating a forum for critical dialogue."
"I'll be right over here, hiding under my desk if you need me."
Call me crazy, but my idea of a great vacation would be to spend a couple of weeks as a President or Dean at one of these bizarro universities and just shit on everything these SJW fucktards say.
Wow. Now there's a great short-story idea.
This my friend is why we roll with it.

The Stonewall Inn was owned and operated by the Mafia. I cannot imagine why a movie about it would contain violence.

One patron told police he grabbed a chair to make a barrier.
Smart spin. That he grabbed a chair for a lap dance wouldn't go over well back at home.
I must say... Would
Well, I guess it's time to expand the rainbow of diversity again, to allow room for the kinky lizards.
And "kinky lizards" would be a great name for a rock band.
And "Kinky Lizard" is actually the name of an espresso bar.
What did bored people do before the invention of the Internet? Fortunately, I don't have to know.
What did bored people do before the invention of the Internet?
In Los Angeles they went to bars, drank, and smoked cigarettes. And then they drove home in cars that were built like Panzer tanks.
I know this because I have been watching early (mid 1950's) installments of Dragnet on Youtube.

I'm enjoying the old sleds in this season of Fargo.

She has been featured on World Star Hip-Hop, which I consider to be a powerful aphrodisiac. However, she is far too traditionally attractive for me, so pass.
Here is the video. NSFW

Note: the video is kinda sad.
Also, I amend my previous answer and definitely would.
This calls for a Crusty Reptile Sandwhich...on rye
It is and I would.
Yup.
You people disgust me. Ketchup is the most misogynistic of condiments.
Is this what we call 'eating their own'?
It's scrumptious!
Nothing should surprise us anymore about what comes out of campuses across the continent and the West at large.
That, or conservatives have finally gotten smart and figured out how to silence progs while still sounding progger-than-thou to avoid the wrath of the progquisition.
I self-identify as LGBTQIA+, and I am outraged by the film, the college's response, Soave's article, Soave, Reason in general, and every comment on this thread.
I expect an apology.
How about an analogy? Or even an anal-ogy?
A demand this just and righteous should have been uttered by a left-handed lesbian woman of color...why are you, as a man, trying to shoulder yourself to the front of this cause and thereby marginalize women, you...
Am I doing this right?
Pay attention! I am not a man, I am LGBTQIA+
Don't you queersplain this to me - I am a trans Emperor and I just got beaten at Waterloo, so I feel kind of depressed, so the last thing I need is to get yelled at - and what's with putting the "L" and the "G" and the "B" in front of the "T"? Does that mean I'm only a fourth-class citizen?
Serves you right, siding with the oppressors at Waterloo. I'm glad the Aztecs kicked your asses back to Germany.
I am LGBTQIA+
You are Lou Reed?
No, *I'm* Lou Reed!
And *I'm* Lou Reed!
We are *all* Lou Reed!
Tangentially related to the topic, Lou Reed's younger sister, Merrill Reed Weiner, has written that their parents, "blazing liberals", did not take Lou to mental hospitals, where he was given electro-shock therapy, to cure him of his homosexual urges.
http://tinyurl.com/mxhmnh9
Merrill seem to be authentic and had the grace to wait and think before writing about this. In fact, I don't recall Lou ever saying otherwise. But it is one of those Rock 'n Roll / gay warrior memes that has popped up from time to time.
But at least Lou Reed never did any racist lyrics, right?
Reason in general
And reason in general.
Do you also self-identify as LIAR?
Help! I am stuck at a mammal hangout that celebrates Taco Tuesday and I am surrounded by septum-pierced hipsters
Maybe you could hook up with a skink.
I would narrow my gaze but you're somewhat on to something. Unfortunately it's just fat mammals, some of them look like staby lesbian
Wait... What kind of tacos? This shit matters.
They have about 5 Artisinal choices... And Actually the brisket one was quite good, and they're only 3 bucks
good beer options?
Cigar City Con Leche...obvious coffe stout. Pretty damn good, and lively too
Sounds pretty much worth having to deal with some douchbags
Actually I rather miss the douche bag era... At least they looked like they could crush me. These creatures I'm surrounded by look about as threatening as a ball of wet toilet paper...quite de-motivating
Too bad you don't have pockets, you could have paid for it instead of borrowing from friends.
Oh, crap, I just displayed my herpetophobia, didn't I?
Well I would call it an anti-green sentiment. Unless you are truly scared of reptiles...and my bar tender knows I'm good for it
Maybe you could keep your money in a purse.
Wow, I actually felt *guilty* after posting that. I've been conditioned well. Seriously.
Well actually it's quite common among my people to make a construct out of a rivals' carcas. Although wearing it around is a bit much.
And how about the way the media keeps holding you up to unrealistic standards?
And then there is her

How can it be a sandwich with no M?
anyone who talks about a movie as threatening their physical well being should be beaten within an inch of their life. that way, for the rest of their days, they'll associate saying such stupid shit with their physical well being, and we won't have to listen to it anymore.
That never works. It does make you feel better though.
You seem to speak as one who knows.
Actually, there's no single greater motivator than fear.
Thank you, Thomas Hobbes.
Listen, if CC's dikes, fags, and shemales can't handle a simple film showing, let them drop out. They don't have much of a chance at succeeding in the real world once they graduate.
Except they are going to be the ones to turn their perceptions of what the real world should be into reality thanks to the help of the government and its armed thugs.
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go? to tech tab for work detail,,,,,,,

All I have to say is this. Y'all should stay at the house til you die, because obviously life is too scary for your coward asses.
I was tempted to just kill myself after reading that first sentence. Thanks to the second sentence, I'm still with us.
it's 'canceled'!!!!
If they're so sensitive to the effect of words, they should be mindful of what the words "express intent" mean. If the author/director/producers have not expressly stated that their movie was made intentionally to suppress more marginalized groups, the use of this phrase is libelous. The film makers really ought to sue them for this.
"They will never be able to interact with anyone outside the pathetic bubble they have created for themselves.". Maybe that's a good thing...... for the rest of us, that is.
I'm someone who works with this shit day in and day out. I work in higher ed. We had a program for grad students this summer.
Half were black or Asian, which my boss took to be a good sign, but one that needed improvement - i.e., we needed to find ways to get more black, Asian, etc. students to participate.
3/4 of the students were women. Based on what I said in the paragraph above, you'd think this would be seen as positive by my boss too, right? After all, if 75% are women, doesn't that beat 50% non-white, a percentage that is seen as good but too low? Nope. The fact that 75% were women showed that women "self-selected" to be in this program because of "gendered" pressures. If only 25% of the attendees were women, though, I *know* that would be seen as a sign that women were being discouraged from participation.
What I took away from that is that, if your ideology insists that a particular group is permanently victimized and "marginalized" then all evidence will support that conclusion, even the evidence that contradicts it. In other words the person who "identifies" as a perpetual victim cannot ever acknowledge a cessation to victimization. Microaggressions are what you get when the macroaggressions go away. And when you've cleaned out the microaggressions, it is on to nanoaggressions, femtoaggressions, etc.
This. Thinking/discussing is not just a Western ideal. And if she were rejecting Western liberalism, why is she attending college?
