Watch Matt Welch Talk Jeb Bush and Ben Carson on MSNBC's All in with Chris Hayes at 8:30 pm ET
Not only has Jeb Bush trailed Ben Carson in every national GOP presidential poll over the past seven weeks, now it comes out that the giftedly-handed neurosurgeon is raising more money than the would-be third Bush president, $20 million to $13 million in the third quarter. As a result, the former Florida governor has cut his expensive activities way back, while the soft-spoken Carson has…uh, suspended his campaign to go on yet another book tour?
I will be talking about this—likely making the counter-intuitive point that Carson's ha-suspension is much ado about nothing—tonight at around 8:30 p.m. on MSNBC's All in with Chris Hayes.

This better be more substantial than that last appearance.
MSNBC is inherently light and fluffy and hollow at the core.
The last time i glanced at it they were repeatedly mocking something Rand had said which was perfectly sensible, but which they desperately tried to paint as "kooky", because that's the M.O. = everyone's "crazy" except for the people who think you can solve everything with more govt.
They can't do worse than Fox Biz just did.
I missed it.
My main gripe with Fox Biz is that they often seem to play "hot potato" with guests and insist everyone 'talk news' the way the stock-market-show hosts talk about market dynamics = Stupidly, but loud & fast and with a false sense of confidence in their own vapid comments.
Like George Lucas is directing... "Faster, and more intense"
It was about a four minute segment, and Payne actually said at the end of Welch's plea for felon voting rights that next time he should have a victim on the show to chime in. What the hell?
What is it with libertarians that they're doing everything possible to make it easier for Democrats to win elections?
I don't think libertarians necessarily have anything invested in the GOP winning. While I admit that the Democrats right now are about as far from libertarian as you can get, the Republicans aren't exactly rushing to shrink government.
"I don't think libertarians necessarily have anything invested in the GOP winning. "
That's just coincidentally what happens when you oppose a hillary presidency with every fiber of your being.
Guy overdoses on coke in whorehouse
Lesson? = PANIC THAT THE FDA NEEDS TO REGULATE BONER-HERBS
Note the use of the scare quotes when referring to "Legal" Drugs
But who wants to be a Boner Inspector? Much less prestigious than Wallet Inspector...
I'm going to nominate jesse....he's free to decline #jesseForBonerInspector!
He never struck me as a civil service type, but if he's willing to perform onerous tasks for his country, he seems qualified!
Well, he didn't decline (probably) so I'm calling it. jesse is now the Boner Inspector. Congratulations jesse!
Whoops
(link)
Even with his boner pills, Chris Hayes keeps getting asked if he's "all in," if you know what I mean and I think you do.
"Chris - are you done yet?"
Chris Hayes keeps getting asked if he's "all in,"
Would you be able to tell?
"Guy"?
Try again.
re: Matt's TV appearances...
While I appreciate the cut of Matt's jib as much as anyone without a French passport, it is a bit much to ask a man to actually tune his media-viewing-device to MSNBC and its pig-swill of smarmy-prog-doucheness.
The only time I enjoy watching Chris Hayes is when there's a small chance that he might be attacked by a mob and torn limb from limb.
Slow night at H&R? Why we talking about the Jub?
Like Bush finding Jesus, Sanders has knelt at the altar of Climate Change and MacFarlane is ready to tithe.
That banner video on that The Intercept story was pretty cool, I have to admit.
Scahill is angling to be the next Michael Hastings if he's not careful.
Okay, MSNBC, whip out that Welch and slap us across the face with it. We're all in.
AH! Mike Huckabee.
Yes, anyone who doesn't believe AGW simply doesn't understand it. Your magic sky friend, Climate Change, works in mysterious ways.
It's like progressitopia. Everyone would be a hardcore leftist if it was only explained better. The leftists don't have the wrong message, they're just not very good at splainin the message to the unenlightened. Like Obamacare, we just don't know why we should love higher premiums, skyrocketing deductibles, less choice, and longer waits. It just needs explained better, then we'd all love it.
Everyone can't be hardcore leftists or we'd all be moderates. And starving.
No, I think the implication is that a non-believer is too Neanderthal to understand.
Sarcasm? That's where you want your host to go?
Also = i'm shocked that MSNBC would rather gossip about GOP candidates rather than dwell at length about Obama's Afghanistan "announcement" ...where he boldly insisted "more of the same" will surely bring lasting progress to afghanistan
Yeah, I had higher hopes. I don't know why.
Horse race reporting. This has got to be the laziest journalism.
Drudge outdid himself with this photo for a link about Hill worrying about Joe entering the race.
How many terabytes do you suppose Drudge's cache of Hillary pictures is?
He should make them into a coffee table book.
That's a little too much Silence of the Lambs.

Yeah, there they are. I see the shoes.
You people are going to be eating your words when the GOP Establishment installs Bush as the nominee at the last minute.

Interesting - it looks like you fellas (or xes) are going for a twitterverse type of comment section.
It's called live blogging. Get on board or get out. Also, it's over.
What's over?
The internet in general, and the subject of this post specifically.
I'm glad I missed nothing.
No more internet? Great, it's back to Sear's catalogs and keyhole spying on your mom for my porn.
I'll be in my bunk.
I think SIV has some classics you can borrow.
Over and out it is, then.

My favorite thing about msnbc is that I never have to watch it.

And it is proof that male and female brains are wired differently, a controversial subject, which has been argued by scientists and feminists for decades.
Gender is a social construct though. Except for trannies. They have female brains.
"Gender is a social construct though."
Gender is an evolutionary construct. Why do academics hate science?
Evolution is scientific theory that attempts to explain why we have different uglies.
"Although the neurons have only been found in the brains of nematode worms, scientists at University College London say that it is likely that similar mechanisms are at work in humans."
Ahem.
Nematode worms in brief: http://www.micrographia.com/sp.....ma0100.htm
A female nematode worm may reproduce on her own. Should we conclude that "similar mechanisms are at work in humans" or not?
I have a question. What is the proper libertarian foreign policy for Russia? As far as I can tell it is that foreign meddling from Russia is okay since they have, unlike the USG, Real Enemies (like erm...the USG), hypocrisy and Hitler. That or Putin is a TOP MAN who can do foreign interventionism right and save Syria from ISIS. And that propping up a dictator in the name of "stability" or protecting naval bases in other countries are okay when the US isn't doing it.
Real libertarians don't give a fuck about Russia, Iran, or any of the other shitholes we are supposed to care about.
Fuck Off Shithead.
Why don't you ask your fascist Free Republic Tea Party Brotherhood?
Go away TEAM RED!
Shouldn't you go back to fucking your daddy, shithead?
Quit sniffing my ass, you fucking Tea Party "wide stance" pervert.
Shut up Socon.
Yeah, that's what being libertarian is all about, not caring about people.

George Washington, Libertarian?
You could do worse
I hear he has like, 6 dicks.
That motherfucker has, like, 30 dicks...
You'll notice the only comment on that page is from one Warner Todd Huston, who would go on to be a Breitbart columnist and Teddy Roosevelt cosplayer. The particular quote he references I shall provide below and allow you to judge the correctness of Huston's intepretation:
What I found interesting was that in the letter, Washington switches back and forth between "the United States" and "these United States".
Well he was a treasonous slaveowner.
Ah, if only the discipline of forensic linguistics had been developed earlier!
I blame the Republicans for hating Education.
What i found interesting was his concern over treaties with both France and England.
If a Treaty isn't 'entanglement', what is?
Well Treaties back then weren't necessarily alliances. It was more you don't fuck with me, I don't fuck with you.
Yes
but you can see how signing the same treaties with parties like England and France... who had a thing about being perpetually at war with one another...
....was doomed to be an inevitable source of "entanglement". And ended up being the cause of a war 17 years after he pointed out that problem.
The point was "trade with all, alliance with none" was untenable, when other parties consider your free-trading with their enemies a de-facto threat to themselves.
Well, that's the thing. Washington said we needed 3 more years.
"Washington said we needed 3 more years."
Without wading back into that thing... 3 years of what?
You mentioned that the War of 1812 began 17 years later, in his letter, Washington made the claim that if the USA would be able to maintain peace for 20 years it would be invincible.
" if the USA would be able to maintain peace for 20 years it would be invincible."
I'm not sure what the value of being "invincible" is if you're planning to never tangle yourself in other people's biddness
Besides - we both know that's not how things work. (or in the specific case of 1812 - 3 years would not have provided us with a Navy sufficient to dismiss any challenge)
My original point was that it seemed that there was never any genuine attempt at entanglement avoidance from day 1. We fucked up - or we allowed our relations with GB to go to shit - over the very first minor-international squabble we got into
Indeed. Part of that was because no matter how we pretended, Europe wasn't just over there; she was in Canada, the Indian lands of the Mid-West, and the Caribbean.
Libertarians will act as if the US, or the Neocons in particular or BOOOSH were the first and only people in history to have a foreign policy of "With Us or Against Us" when the British had a very clear policy of that during the Napoleonic Wars, and Both World Wars.
I suppose he was more interested in treaties where France and England would agree to the leave the US alone and allow trade and diplomacy rather than a treaty that would involve agreeing to go to war with one of them against the other.
Though it is true that libertarians do ignore the potential of multilateral organizations and diplomacy to be rather interventionist. The Nuclear Deal with Iran is not "staying out" of Iran's affairs especially since it requires you know inspections and penalties for violations.
Or when Richman complains that the US is blocking the UN from condemning Israel, as if those Security Council resolutions are non-interventionist.
Well that's all nice and good but they are clearly talking about the US. When it comes to other countries things fall apart. "Other countries can go to war since they have enemies and interests but we don't" isn't really a very consistent policy. Sorta like how the Socialists thought WWI would be avoided because "the workers" would oppose a "capitalist war" but the socialist philosophy was all about how War is Good in self-defense and for the revolution (see how the "anti-war" French Left was rabidly in favor of the French Revolutionary Wars and how the Paris Commune grew out of the Pro-War Parisians) and of course everyone thought that WWI was for self-defense. Lenin opposed WWI though but we saw how "anti-war" he was afterwards.
There is also the unfortunate fact that there have been very few people actually opposed but quite a lot of people who opposed certain wars for political expediency.
Also I've reading quite a bit of English history. Seems a lot of the suspicions of standing armies was more a fear that Charles I and James II would use them to make everyone Catholic rather than actual opposition to the concept of standing armies. For example the English Civil War broke out in part over the raising of an army to crush rebellious Irish Catholics. And Oliver Cromwell was quite willing to use the standing armies to rule England. Though the Puritanism enforced by some of these armies (i,e. banning Christmas and theatres) also contributed to the hostility to standing armies.
Oh and the English Whigs weren't particularly anti-war either. There was the hostility to the French and also the Dutch. In fact many Whigs went from warring with the Dutch to inviting a Dutch King to rule them!
Oh and I read to about how after the Glorious Revolution the Tories would oppose standing armies (controlled by the Whigs by now) in favor of building up the Royal Navy.
Ezra Klein's video on the Syrian war. Spot the nots. I found 2 major nots.

Thanks to everyone who gave me tips on eliminating mice... The intruder has been neutralized. But I'd like to call upon the H&R Rodent Control Brigade once again and ask: is there any way to keep squirrels out of the garden? Besides by building a giant cage of 2x4s and chicken wire?
I had a few tomatoes that were almost ready to pick - probably the last of the season - but the little fuckers ate every single one, so no more tomatoes this year. They even chewed a few branches/limbs off of the plants just for the hell of it. Unfortunately, firearms are not an option since I live in a neighborhood.
PS: is there any danger from eating well-cooked squirrel?
Have you tried sprinkling the perimeter of your garden with fox urine? You can get stuff like that from your local Agway.
You could start by discussing the subject of private property rights with them in an adult manner.
Dunno, man... They seem pretty convinced that it's horribly unfair for me to have all the tomatoes (even though I created them) when they have none. They must be Bernie Sanders supporters.
Listen to listen folks, Akira created tomatoes. The millions of years that have past where squirrels picked up tomato seeds and dropped them on the fertile soil for them to grow and blossom are lost on him.
That Mrs. Squirrel complained and withheld herself from the adventurist squirrel that came home empty handed is a small price to pay for the common good.
Airgun.

Yes, prepare for a mass freak out and group pants shitting by the 'caring and empathetic' crowd. You know, the same crowd that doesn't even know people are slaughtering each other in Africa in civil wars every day and who basically wouldn't give a shit if they did know.
So the dude who shot the asshole lion wasn't charged. You who was charged? The two poor ass Africans who took.him on the hunt. Congrats social justice warriors. You just fucked a couple of poor Africans for trying to feed their family.
They don't care. They still feel morally superior to the 2 poor Africans and pretty much everyone else on the planet.
We're talking about the same species of person who would manhandle a weeping homeless man to take his dog, because filthy Gypsies aren't allow to have pets or property rights, I guess... then rename the dog "Vegan", and charge a foster family a more than 100 dollar fee for its adoption.

And if the Euro-Trash get their way, they'll have to pay for 'organic foods' on top of it:
ANGOLA ? Banned imports of all GMO produce, except for food aid provided it was milled. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) reported that the additional cost of milling discouraged some food donors.
ETHIOPIA ? Banned import of GMO food, saying it would undermine farmers who already have their own traditional ways of fighting pests and weeds. Debate continues over whether GMO crops could help the country out of years of serious food shortages.
KENYA ? Does not permit GMO food imports, but government is in final stages of drafting legislation to govern the process of commercializing GMO products.
[...]
ZAMBIA ? Banned import of all GMOs, citing concerns over environmental impact and effect on human health. In response, it is alleged that the WFP moved some non-GM food aid stocks out of the country.
ZIMBABWE ? Banned import of all GMO produce, except for food aid, provided it has already been milled.

Time to rename July (and August too):

Plutarch claimed that the army had fought against three million men during the Gallic Wars, of whom one million died, and another million were enslaved.
July is kind of faggy but you can't rename August cause that's my birth month.
I was thinking maybe you would have come up with a new manner of complaint during your time away, but no.

Hey guys! You want to watch an interview with a guy who has sex with horses?
No?
How about an interview with a guy who has sex with horses married to a woman who also has sex with animals but gets jealous that she's in a love triangle with a horse?
No?
How about an interview where you learn the meaning of the abbreviation "JRHNBR"?
OK!
But how do the horses sign their consent forms at each step of the process and submit them the proper government office?

Police find 'more than a dozen containers of fetus parts' and strong anesthetic inside trunk of doctor's car amid claims he carried out illegal abortions
That is going to be a fun story for tomorrow.
Still in the "embarrassment to their respective communities contest," this week abortionists lose out to Black people, as Lamar Odom decided to get caught brain-deading himself in a room with two white women and a refrigerator filled with fried chicken and watermelon.
I mean, really?
"When he got there he saw line-up of eight prostitutes - one a transsexual - but selected Ryder Cherry and Monica Monroe, both blondes
They went to his room up to six times each day for four days and in between their visits he ate three t-bone steaks at a time"
That is NOTHING to be ashamed of. That's Boss-Level Winning.
(*i am unsure why the Daily Mail felt compelled to note that he had the option of a tranny, but did not choose it; perhaps they felt a need for inclusiveness?)
If the reports are accurate, the one with something "extra" was the one who discovered him after ODing.
ah.
This person blames lack of FDA oversight of herbal boner-enhancements
T-bone steaks and copious cocaine are just part of a well-balanced diet
Gilmore, you're not sure why the Daily Mail bothered to mention a tranny hooker in a story about the near-death of a Kardashian- and NBA-related celebrity!?
Surely you know the Daily Mail's place in journalism, and how journalism in general works?
Ou sont les femmes blanches?
Alternate joke: at least the didn't find a *ukelele* in the fridge.
He was dipping the chicken in the cool whip, that is my guess.
Mr. Odom didn't kill anyone. And he was eating a balanced diet, with something from each major food group - meat, fruit, drugs, and hookers.
So how is he worse than Dr. Baby-Parts?
I see Gilmore made a similar joke.
PS, I like fried chicken and watermelon, I don't know how these delicacies came to be associated with only one group.
Think about it, Harry.
Better yet, why don't you ask your wife?
*arrogantly throws napkin down on the dinner table*
"That is going to be a fun story for tomorrow."
So far, the stories I see are on prolife and/or right-wing sites.
I wondered how come the abortions he allegedly did were illegal, and the article said the medical board had, because of certain misconduct, forbidden him from doing abortions outside of a clinical setting. Apparently he had been doing abortions in his home.
A couple thoughts: (a) You mean that physicians normally *are* allowed to do abortions in their homes? and (b) how can cops tell that aborted babies in a car are from illegal abortions, as opposed to legal abortions? The babies are just as dead in either case. (c) Maybe he was just taking baby parts over the local baby-parts store to sell them.
What makes the abortions illegal?

Well, top o' the mornin' to you, too!
Too funny. Here in SF we have a Sheriff who got questioned by deputy running the range if he was allowed to have a gun because of his criminal conviction. He demoted the guy for his insubordination and also failed the qualifying test to carry. He just got his drivers license back so there is still something he can do.
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/.....573224.php
And his Generalissimo uniform! Californis continues its devolution into a banana republic.
It says his conviction was expunged after he finished his probation.
Online Merriam Webster has these definitions of "expunge:"
"1: to strike out, obliterate, or mark for deletion
"2: to efface completely : destroy
"3: to eliminate (as a memory) from one's consciousness"
But I suppose that an expungement isn't sufficient, he needs his conviction to be extra-super-special This Time We Mean It expunged.
It was mighty quick for an expungement. You could say we are progressive here.
Thanks for the laugh, sue. It's not just big cities, though, our small city of 70'000 has paid out 3 million bucks in settlements over various idiots running the department the last 6 years. Ironically, the present sheriff who got 60 grand on a discrimination suit a couple years ago before he was elected now faces about 850 grand in discrimination lawsuits.
The present sheriff is a fucking Idiot, but he's a democrat and Missoula like SF is a one party town. Why should a public safety election be a partisan contest....
BTW, I didn't realize Hayes survived the Ed Schultz purge....I'd guess it's only a matter of time for him.
Thread is probably dead but I love Missoula. I have a couple buddies that moved there decades ago and are fishing guides. Does the Oxford still make the best chicken fried steak in America? That place is the awesome.
