NASA Democratic presidential candidate and frontrunner Hillary Clinton is expected to unveil new gun control measures in the wake of the Oregon shooting. Meanwhile, Martin O'Malley, another Democratic candidate, called gun violence a "sickness" and urged Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the frontrunner in New Hampshire, to adopt policy proposals he's already put out.

The governor of South Carolina says the area's getting the worst rain "in a thousand years."
The South's waters will rise again.
The Governor, being both a geologist and climate scientist, or at least someone who f-ing loves science, is not to be doubted.
"Climate scientists" are much more likely to be professional advocates for government policy than they are to be actual scientists.
They can read the political climate pretty well, though.
*golf clap*
It doesn't take a weatherman to tell which way the wind blows.
Or they way a homemade bomb blows.
so political science = climate science
Climate science certainly informs political science, although political science reciprocates by informing climate scientists where the grant money is.
Hello.
Re SC governor: Was 'Raindrops keep falling on my head' playing in the back ground?
I loved that song as a kid.
The song is actually about outlaws and bicycles. True story.
And bangin Katherine Ross.
shouldn't have robbed the train that second time.
Stasi: State Department must list gun-loving NRA as terrorist organization
That woman is appropriately named. When the statists come to power, guess what department SHE will be head of?!? (Hint: they have a "Room 101"....)
Wow, people just lose all common sense when it comes to guns. Surely these guys know that a terrorist organization has to at least advocate violence right?
No, Ill, it's all about the feelz.
Off topic, but congrats on identify the hidden capital 'i' in my handle.
"Because I pay attention to things, Ron." /Hermione
It was hidden?
On my monitor the first three letters of my handle look identical.
That's weird, on my phone the I is clearly a little bit shorter.
Reason #42 to read HyR on a proper computing device. (Reason #1 is the auto-correct jibberish y'all phone people are always perpetrating.)
I always read it with the I, but as "Illocaust," your DJ stage name.
Is she including the drone attack collateral damage in her terrorist deaths committed by US Citizens (assuming of course the CIC is a citizen 😉
How the fuck does she even remotely connect deaths in the U.S. to the NRA?
She's not even a functional retard. Jesus me. That's the New York Daily news? Ugly stuff.
Yeah, sad to say this is a thing the left thinks. My sister, a knee jerk liberal if there ever was one, calls the NRA death ministers, or something like that.
It's COMPLETELY irrational.
I find it hilarious the side of 'science' and 'rational' thinking believe crap like this and fears about climate change and the need to introduce all kinds of jobs and growth killing laws and policies.
They're like Medieval cultists.
They never were the side of science. They are the side of scientism. They have faith in science as a dogma, which is different from applying scientific method and logic.
I never thought of it like that, but it makes a lot of sense. Plus everyone who "fails" to see their point of view must be converted.
Her argument is based on a series of fallacies:
1. A gun ban would work and wouldn't result in any sort of black market.
2. This theoretical gun ban would therefore prevent deaths.
3. Because the NRA opposes what would self-evidently prevent deaths, they are responsible for those deaths, and hence are terrorists.
I also like that she got all her numbers wrong. She claims there have been 87,000 deaths from gun murders in the US since 2012, but there are about 15,000 murders OF ALL KINDS in the US annually, which means total murders are about 60,000 in 4 years. The gun homicide rate is about 3.6 per 100,000, which based on my math means there are about 45,000 gun homicides in 4 years, not 87,000.
Her numbers are double the reality.
Suicide by guns are counted as gun murders. Because reasons.
Because economic determinism.
But if that were the case her numbers would be too low because if you count suicides there are 30,000 deaths a year, so it would actually be 120,000.
I thought about that when I was originally looking at the numbers, but it still doesn't work. She either low-balled the number while counting suicides or she way overstated the number of deaths while only counting homicides.
Or she just pulled a number out of her ass and ran with it.
Oh, she also tries to claim the NRA is responsible for more deaths than terrorists by counting all gun deaths as the fault of the NRA alone while breaking up every terrorist group by the murders of civilians only they have committed. She only counts civilian deaths too, so the thousands of Kurdish and Syrian soldiers killed by ISIS don't count, only the 15,000 civilian deaths.
Oh, and she starts her count from 2012, even though ISIS didn't exist as a large force until 2014. So she counted gun deaths that occurred 2 years before ISIS became a serious threat so she could claim the NRA is a bigger threat than ISIS, even though annually ISIS kills more people than die from guns in America.
So she's a disingenuous piece of human trash.
She isn't just wrong, it's a flat-out lie. The FBI's Expanded Homicide data lists murders by firearm at 8,855--and that's LOWER than in 2008. Even assuming that the figures when back up to 2008 numbers, that's a little over 28,500 murders by firearm from 2013-2015 (I'm presuming "since 2012" means the end of 2012).
Again the statists are using the term 'gun violence' (or 'gun deaths') to conflate all incidents that include a gun. It boosts the stats, and misrepresents most of the data. That's a deliberate strategy to inflame emotional responses.
Same strategy used for 'climate change' ( which we should always call AGW), and 'alcohol-related' deaths.
Control the language and you control the narrative is a proven effective means of propaganda (Goebbels, Gore, Alinsky, etc.). Don't let them get away with it. Call them out every time.
'Health care" for health insurance. 'Budget cut' for reduction in budget growth. The list is endless. And endlessly damaging.
"Women's Heath" for baby killing.
There was a time when the Daily News used to hew a middle-ground between the Times and the Post. Those days are officially over.
Well then, how many malaria deaths are the eco socialist wackos who advocated banning DDT responsible for?
Obama should debate Wayne LaPierre.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/a.....ident.html
There are worse ideas. I actually think primetime debates of public policy would be a GREAT IDEA.
But the fucking lib that wrote this doesn't have any idea what would be in store or how his plan might backfire. Check it:
"So we have the status quo: a country that overwhelmingly favors a gun bill but a Congress that opposes it."
He might be wrong about that, but YOUR BUBBLE MAY VARY!
And from Kevin Williamson's latest at NRO:
"Violent crime in the United States is a concentrated phenomenon. Chicago had 407 murders last year, New York had 328, Los Angeles 259, Philadelphia 248. All too high, to be sure, but in 1990 New York had 2,245 murders."
Holy fuck?.
Wayne LaPierre is fucking joke. He's not exactly the best advocate that gun owners have.
You'd think an organization with the kind of lobbying power the NRA possesses could pick someone more coherent.
A few mass shootings ago he was screaming from the rooftops that Americans should be detained, locked up and have their rights taken away without anything resembling the due process of law.
The Gun Owners of America guys are much better at debate.
Then them! Anyone! Debate!!!!
"The Gun Owners of America guys are much better at debate."
They also seem better at advocating for everyone's rights - not only the rights of their members. When Congress was considering passing legislation which would have forced organizations to reveal the names of their donors/members the GOA pressured them not to pass the legislation.
The NRA pressured Congress to not include organizations of a certain size of larger in the legislation. Of course, the NRA was one of the organizations which would have been exempted due to its size.
I agreed with Erick Erickson's take on them: "I support Gun Owners of America, which is a consistent and uncompromising defender of the Second Amendment, not a weak little girl of an organization protecting itself while throwing everyone else under the bus."
For whatever it's worth, Ron Paul had this to say about them: "The only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington."
I like the idea of a debate, but LaPierre? Not sure that would be a win.
Of course, Obama would never agree to a debate anyway.
Democratic presidential candidate and frontrunner Hillary Clinton is expected to unveil new gun control measures in the wake of the Oregon shooting.
I'm guessing she'll try to convince America that there was less violence during the last Clinton presidency thanks to his common-sense assault weapons ban.
Happy days are here again!
I cannot believe the dems are gonna run a national campaign for president trying to make gun control a centerpiece.
It's like a dog returning to its vomit.
My cats do that. It's funny.
Well, they are contemplating running a national campaign for president featuring HRC as the centerpiece (and, of course, the Rs are contemplating T***p or Jeb as their centerpiece).
Jeb has fallen into the rounding error level of support. Trump is starting the "wait, vote for the guy?" slide.
Why ever not, gaijin? You expect them to let that pile of dead college students just go to waste?
BTW, is gaijin's nickname Jimbo or JJ? Also, why?
Gojira is JJ, right?
But you can call him Ray, or can call him Johnny...
+1 Raymond J Johnson
-1 Junior
Those are gojira's nicknames. They relate to his IRL name that some of us know.
I am going with "James Jesus" because I like that name.
Zat Jimmy Hey-Zeus or Gee-zus?
Right here? Right now?!?
booooo.....
BTW, is gaijin's nickname Jimbo or JJ? Also, why?
As others have said, no. I am not those people. As to why, because I cannot believe the D team would be that out of touch with a general election voting population. I guess about 1/3rd of (voting age) Americans own guns...that seems like a pretty big single issue group to be messing with in a general election. But hey, who knows. I sure don;t
Some gun owners support tightening gun ownership regulations. These are the people that have a pistol for self-defense which they have fired only a few times, if ever. They feel appropriately guilty about having a gun, and will never publicly admit that. But they know that those scary gun nuts who go to the range need to be controlled.
Especially when their driving argument is "look at this bunch of murderers!"
Yeah, that's a winner.
Democratic presidential candidate and frontrunner Hillary Clinton is expected to unveil new gun control measures in the wake of the Oregon shooting.
They're running to the left like chickens with their poll numbers cut off.
Will Hillary be the first to order her bodyguards to stop carrying guns?
Followed by the use of peddle powered vehicles to get to campaign events instead of jet airplanes and limos?
How about land-sails?
If the left wants to make gun control a priority issue for 2016, I don't think we'll hear President Kasich complaining much

Want to sleep better? Try sleeping naked
Sleeping in nothing is comfortable if you live alone or only with a significant lover. Especially if you're a chick, it's a pain to sleep naked if you have to worry about parents are roommate walking by. Also if it's not winter (blankets are nice, but pajamas make you warm faster).
Parents, yeah. Roomates, meh. People are too uptight about it.
I had a bunch of opposite gender roommates throughout college, so my rules of how to live comfortably and avoid conflict with roomies may be a little different than most.
For a spell in college I had two female roommates - five of us in a bottom floor of a house. I saw 'em both naked once or twice. I lived... they lived... no souls were taken.
Go on...

The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria destroyed an ancient arch of triumph in Palmyra.
*That* will show those ancient fuckers!
IN 1000 years, small piles of rubble strewn about the ME will serve as reminders of the Islamic State's grand triumphs.
Don't restrict it to just the Islamic State. The whole Middle East will be a testament to the civilizing capabilities of Islamic culture in general.
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Should be "triumphal arch". "Arch of triumph" sounds too damn clunky in English.

The average Irish person has "slept" with the population of Puerto Rico
Well, Puerto Ricans are pretty promiscuous, but this is ridiculous.
I know some Puerto Rican girls who're just dying to meet you...
Yes, and all the water we drink was once pee or poop. Which is why the Irish drink it filtered with whiskey.
"The average Irish person has "slept" with the population of Puerto Rico"
OK, what do you get if you cross an Irishman with a Puerto Rican?
Someone help me out here.
My buddy.
I saw "The Martian" this weekend, and highly recommend it (minor spoilers for those who have read the book). They did Hollywoodize it a bit, particularly the rescue, but nothing truly obnoxious. More annoying is all the details they left out; we see Watney modifying the rover, but no explanation as to why he's doing that.
Also, I saw the movie with an SJW friend who carped about how character Mindy Park wasn't portrayed by an actress of asian descent. Ugh. And there were plenty of minority actors in the movie already. The only characters in the book whose ethnicity is mentioned are Kapoor, Martinez and Beck.
It's OK. When Preacher debuts, bust his balls over Tulip being played by a black actress.
I suspect that would be framed as racial justice, you know, for all those other roles that weren't cast with actors of color.
Cassidy isn't even Irish. And Jesse is English.
I predict a shitty show.
SJW notions do not operate on a reciprocity principle. Casting WASPish actor as a minority character is racism. Being unwilling to cast a minority actor as a WASPish character is also racism.
I'll watch it on Netflix. I can't suspend my disbelief long enough for Mars Damon.
Do check out the book, though.
Try Meth Damon instead.
How Jared Trump?
Oops
It was a remake of a much better movie from 1964. Why was 'RC on Mars' better - he had a monkey.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO_BP_k9eco
Everything is better with a monkey.
Was thinking the same thing. Been done already, though I did like the Martian when I read it, will still go see Matt Crusoe on Mars.
Meh, it seems so light and enjoyable, I'm going to wait for HBO to get it in a few months. And as others have said, I can't watch Matt Damon doing an "I fucking love science" schtick right now.
Now, Sicario. I saw that yesterday, and highly recommend that one. Probably the best movie I've seen so far this year (Mad Max and the German film Phoenix being the other contenders right now). It's Zero Dark Thirty on the border, and a lot better than that film. There have been quite a few movies and shows about how awful the drug war is on the border, but this one is probably the most devastating and enraging yet.
we see Watney modifying the rover, but no explanation as to why he's doing that.
I did not read the book yet, but in the movie he was modifying the rover to get the range to visit the supply ship dropped for the next mission, where he ended up going anyway.
Also, I saw the movie with an SJW friend who carped about how character Mindy Park wasn't portrayed by an actress of asian descent.
Looked that up, seems the entire SJW world is up in arms because some assume that Park is automagically a Korean name. I suppose it is like the idiots that assume the only meaning of "urban" is black.
Lawsuit: Pork roll company fired employee for passing gas
Why in the Hell would you want to publicize your " extreme gas and uncontrollable diarrhea" with a lawsuit?! You ain't going to win if there is a jury involved...
They are being financed by the Pepto-Bismol people.
But remember that the typical jury is heavily weighted with retirees and people on some form of public assistance. And those groups are likely to be sympathetic to the plight of a sick person claiming he was fired because of his illness.
Unless they like eating out. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*
Especially if you crop dust the court room.
Was his gastric bypass surgery elective? Did he need it to live?
Why Do-Gooders Make the Rest of Us Uncomfortable
Huh, so it sounds like the people in the article that make other feel uncomfortable have actually tried to think past the feels and do what is best for the cause they care about. Example, the guys that thought a doctor would be better off working in America and donating his income to opening a clinic abroad with local workers rather than going abroad and running the clinic himself. The folks don't always seem to make the best decisions, the guy only sleeping three hours a night comes to mind, but it stems from honest mistakes rather than unwillingness to examine their premises.
That being said, I wouldn't want to be one of these people or date them. I value my life and happiness at a very large premium, and the sacrifices they are willing to make for others far exceeds the ones I'm willing to make without personal attachments complicating the picture.
So, the premise seems to be that do-gooders are insufferable douche bags.
Brings perspective to the do-gooder doctor's wife he seduced in beginning of The Last King of Scotland. "Sarah Merrit: Do you know the feeling when you're married to a really nice guy?
Dr. Garrigan: You feel like a shit.
Sarah Merrit: Yeah..."
I think we all knew that already. Altruists like to claim they are better than the rest of us - and they often get away with it - but believing stuff like "I can fix the world" is clearly a mental problem that is a turn-off to normal people.
But you have no evidence any of these altruists improved anything.
In which case they're just immiserating themselves and those around them for quite literally no reason.
Oh, Slate. Don't ever change. I would miss your predictability too much.
whose utter confidence that they have figured everything out seems a stark contrast with their clumsiness in managing ordinary human interactions.
And your rampant projection.
That's funny coming from a bunch of socialists.
Somehow, I doubt the people sleeping 3 hours a night so they can fail miserably at improving the world have much in common with libertarians.
I also like this new push by the left to attack atheists. I've noticed a lot of smears directed against atheists by left-wingers in the last year or so and am becoming increasingly convinced that it's largely because a lot of atheists have not been willing to toe the line on the subject of The Religion of Peace.
It might also be the circles they travel in. The only "evangelists" they probably encounter are atheist converts from the hinterlands enjoy the freedom of boring other people about their atheism for the first time in their lives.
They are old money atheists looking down on the neuvo godless.
3 years of high school French compels me to correct "neuvo" to nouveau.
I lie chastised.
Or the commie Pope.
Altruists, huh? This is what Ayn Rand warned us about.

You're right. I need to come up with my own outrageous, unverifiable claims about weather events that validate the consensus.
The Hypocrisy of 'Helping' the Poor
Now that is some Grade A liberal elitism on full display.
So they admit capitalism has lifted hundreds of millions of Chinese out of poverty? Surprising.
Yeah, but it sucks because it took away union jobs in the USA. It would have been much better if the USA had provided the entire nation of China with food stamps. That way we could preserve our union memberships and feel superior at the same time.
No, no, no. They admit that state directed capitalism in America, being weak and ineffective due to Republican obstructionism and greed, has allowed our resources to leak into China.
I've got my eye on a community in PA I'm going to impoverish for my own gain.
...And is this a bad thing?
Are they really asking us to be mad that some Americans are nominally less wealthy while hundreds of millions of Chinese are out of poverty? Are only Africans and Americans worthy of escaping poverty?

We clearly need stronger regulation of priests.
Did they have a Concealed Clergy Permit?
What was he thinking? Cowboys fans aren't even the worst.
Yeah, but if he was from Jersey, it's likely he was an Eagles fan, which are the worst
Anything having to do with Filthadelphia is the worst, but I'm thinking Giants fan.

Never fall for the "you wanna see a rectory" ruse.

How Mass Shooters Get Their Guns
Here are the origins of every gun used in the high-profile massacres of Obama's presidency.
So we need to privatize FBI background checks and get rid of those slipping bureaucrats?
Was at a gun show in VA this weekend and DESPITE EVERYTHING I HEAR ABOUT A GUN SHOW "LOOPHOLE", wasn't allowed to purchase a handgun with a GA driver license. And I have no criminal record or nothin'...
Yeah, really fucking easy to get a handgun in this country. I'm not even gonna start about Maryland...
You mean it shouldn't be?
Hmm, what route to take:
a) Blame the FBI et. al. for their failure to do their jobs, or
b) Blame the guns.
I am guessing gun-grabbers already made their minds up.
et al (the periods are actually ants. Look closely and you will see...)
But it is remarkably easy to get your hands on a gun in this country

Wild yeasts often produce off-esters or hypercarbonation or other undesireable effects. Good luck with that.

Although in this case we are talking about a brew-master who spends his time around live yeast cultures. Odds are that he inoculated himself with brewer's yeast and then cultured that same brewer's yeast right back into the beer.
That is the last thing I would want to drink.

John Oliver takes apart GOP's odious 'mental health' cop-out
"The vast majority of mentally ill people are non-violent," Oliver says. And yet they're the GOP's scapegoat
I hope people understand that 'mental illness' encompasses a wide plethora of issues ranging from ostensibly small (anxiety to, say, vomiting) to serious (bi-polar) and everything in between and beyond.
This is what makes me nervous about all this 'mental illness' talk. The vast majority of people who suffer with some form of mental illness are not a danger to themselves or anyone else yet they will be dragged into one giant 'one size fits all' mess.
Now that's enlightened compassion!
Yeah, the "mental illness" thing is a just deflection, and a dangerous one at that.
He worries that the mentally ill will be used as a scapegoat. He much prefers that all innocent gun owners be used as a scapegoat.
I know I put it out there but feel free to contact me when in Mtl.
Cool, thanks. Not sure what the schedule will be yet but I'll probably take you up on that.
If you have loose standards for mandatory commitment, and lots of publicly-funded MH beds then you end up with (wait for it, people) - few loonies on the streets but higher taxes an an increased chance of being involuntarily incarcerated without due process. Also, the types of abuses that were the trigger for deinstitutionalization in the eighties.
OTOH, if you deinstitute the loonies, yes, many of them will be picked up for petty crimes, some of them victimless.
You need to also count the abuses the loonies will suffer in prison in your equation. I have a lot of family members who work in prisons. They don't give a fuck about people who commit crimes, and majorly look down on even pot smokers as idiots who deserve what they get. Even they feel bad for the crazies in prison. The guys have repeatedly put them selves in dangerous situations because of their mental illnesses, and the results are just not pretty or deserved. Also, unless they ask for it, they can't be put into solitary for their own protection (fun fact, you can request solitary in prison and the prison has to grant it. The liability is too high for them if they don't).
Oliver points out that the best government-funded mental health assistance plans pay for themselves
No, if they are government-funded, they literally do not pay for themselves. Derp!
Yeah, I'd love to see the math on that one.
""The vast majority of mentally ill people are non-violent," '
And the vast majority of Gun Owners are non violent.
There are close to ~100 million gun owners in America
The "mentally ill"-spectrum, depending on how you define it, ranges from 3 million (schizoid) to 50m (depressed)
The latter has detailed records of their treatment. It is illegal to keep records on the former (tho they try)
Which population do you think is easier to discriminate within?
note = i'm opposed to blanket bans on people who've been treated for mental illness; I'm opposed to most "databasing" of their heath records. Yet I still think it is more "logical" an approach than trying to police gun owners, what they own, ammo sales, etc.
Hillary's Gun Control Plan: Assault weapons ban, expanded background checks, "unlimited" time to process approval for purchases
Additionally:
Hold dealers and manufacturers fully accountable if they endanger Americans.
While the vast majority of gun dealers and manufacturers operate safely and responsibly, the select few that do not should be held accountable. However, due to lobbying efforts by the NRA, these bad actors are granted unique protections in our laws, and the country's law enforcement agencies often face barriers when attempting to hold them accountable. To ensure that the safety of our communities is prioritized over the profits of the gun lobby, Clinton will:
Repeal the gun industry's unique immunity protection. The NRA lobbied Congress to pass the so-called "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act," a dangerous law which prevents victims of gun violence from holding negligent manufacturers and dealers accountable for violence perpetrated with their guns. It is past time to repeal this law and hold the gun industry accountable just like everyone else. Clinton voted against this law in 2005 and will lead the charge to repeal it as president.
Please lady, make this the centerpiece of Team Blue's 2016 campaign. See what happens.
Hold dealers and manufacturers fully accountable if they endanger Americans.
Christopher Stephens would like a word with you.
This would require holding liberals to the same standards they apply to others.
Repeal the gun industry's unique immunity protection.
How about repealing government's unique immunity protection?
Lets not talk crazy talk, Hillary fully supports immunity for our public servants, who are members of the Democratic Party of course.
Unless they're Secret Service who had to interact with her personally.

a dangerous law which prevents victims of gun violence from holding negligent manufacturers and dealers accountable for violence perpetrated with their guns
Hey lady, you try casting Revealing Intentions and Good/Evil Detection spells. Those Latin incantations are really tricky. One slip up and you're literally drowning in newts.
I like this negligence argument on gun manufacture. It has been around at least since I was in college in the early 80's as an extension of dram shop laws.
To call the logic strained is an insult to strained logic. Unless they could somehow show that a manufacturer knew that his product was specifically being purchased for the commission of a crime and for no other legitimate purpose, I don't see how you could possibly show negligence.
This is after you clear the hurdle that keeping and bearing arms is a specifically protected activity under the constitution. The only way this could possibly work is if the people in the legal system are employing motivated reasoning to get the outcome they desire - the death of the private arms industry. And since we saw lots of this sort of specious reasoning from our courts, you have the carve-out in legislation.
There was some movie about this, I think back around the early 2000s. A widow sued a gun manufacturer and won after some workplace shooting spree. I remember being insulted by the premise, and that was before I even knew what libertarianism was or fired any kind of gun outside of the little single-shot .22s at Scout camp.
Mentioned it above in case you miss it:
I know I put it out there but feel free to contact me when in Mtl.
Yep, saw it, replied above.
So Glock was negligent that the Virginia Tech shooter's guns worked as they were designed to do? Does she know what the word negligent means?
Look, if a lunatic deliberately drives a Chevy into a crowd of people, then GM is responsible for those deaths because they were negligent. What don't you gun nuts get?
negligent manufacturers and dealers
But the FBI bears no responsibility for clearing the background check?
The fact is that the NRA lobbied for the law that protects gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits because all the lawsuits brought against gun makers were 100% frivolous, not because the NRA wants to protect gun makers from their mistakes. If a new gun goes ka-plooey on your hand and you can prove it was because of a manufacturing defect, the manufacturer IS responsible, but that is not what the ex-Secretary of State has in mind.
What a stupid pile of shit.
What unique immunity protection is she talking about? What about car manufacturers? Knife manufacturers? Bat manufacturers? Will Duct Tape Co. be held responsible for kidnappings?
She just made that up out of thin air. The bitch is incapable of telling the truth.
What is an expanded background check? I suspect I know what she wants us to think it is but I bet it amounts to allowing sales only to state agents.
Repeal the gun industry's unique immunity protection. The NRA lobbied Congress to pass the so-called "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,"
Of, fer fucks's sake. That law just prevents the gun industry from being subjected to unique liability exposures.
If you can't sue a car company or dealership when one of their cars is used in a crime, you can't sue a gun company or seller when one of their guns is used in a crime. This is very well-established law, that the gun grabbers tried to knock a hole in for their delusional crusade.

renewables are getting close to being cost-competitive even in the absence of special incentives
And speaking with 100% honesty, I fully welcome their entry into a level, competitive market place. So why are we even having this discussion?
Yep. If renewables are cost-competitive without subsidies, why does it matter what the Republicans think?
Of course, they aren't cost competitive, which is why Germany and Denmark have the highest energy costs in the world due to their attempt to implement renewable energy programs. Were they actually cost competitive, Germany would not have the huge energy prices.
Stop using real world examples, that's not fair.
Another lefty incapable of telling the truth, but then I repeat myself.
Renewables are cost competitive, that's why they need subsidies.
=Krug logic
But that can't be why a Republican is "against" them. No, it must be about climate change denialism.
I would like to know how oil and gas has long been subsidized by the tax code. Probably the thinking if they aren't taxed at 100% therefore equals subsidy.
In rural America, a startling prospect: voters Obama lost look to Sanders
We'll make great pets.
Unions vs climate change zealots...this should be good
It's amazing the Democrats have lasted this long with their various bases constantly ready to eat each other alive.
Yeah, it's going to be really, really ugly.
Can't they both lose?
Coal miners must be the most politically stupid fucks on the planet. In 2008, they voted for a candidate who was pro-union, but also vowed to destroy their profession with all the power of the state. Now in 2016 this guy thinks Bernie Sanders isn't going to do the same thing.
Coal's been dying a slow death for a while now. Natural gas is killing it. The problem in that portion of the country has been an unwavering commitment to coal and no diversification of income except through government welfare.
I'm excluding the Kentucky weed farmers.
And we all know how the greenies feel about NatGas, fracking and other things that could replace those coal jobs. Also, those WV coalminers are hugely pro-gun. Keeping them voting D is always a challenge. And the R's are always able to skim off some votes with gay marriage and abortion.
"Man, he screwed us."
"But I bet Sanders can screw us in ways Obama never dreamed were possible!
Holy shit, what a useful idiot.
Biden and Obumbles never made any secret of their intention to kill the coal industry. They stated it outright a number of times and this idiot pulled the lever for Mr. 'under my plan'?

Mish also makes a good point about the rampant disability fraud that is not captured in this report.
Here are two quotes out of just Puerto Rico alone about disability, there are such stories out of all the States.

""""Hundreds of Puerto Rico's residents qualified for federal disability benefits in recent years because they lacked fluency in English, according to government auditors."""

Jezebel's perfect man won't shock you.
Andrew Wardle is really cute, and since he's currently penis-free, he might actually be the perfect man.
By that measure, every trans that hasn't finished the process is already perfect.
Nevermind the full-throated misandry on display.
I am absolutely not clicking on that, but WTF?
He was born with his bladder outside his body and no penis due to a birth defect. He's due for reconstruction surgery that might be able to make him a (hopefully) functioning penis. Jezebel likes him the way he is.
There was an interesting comment about using arm skin for penis reconstruction. Apparently the hair follicles can survive the process and then you have to get you member waxed.
*crosses legs, shudders*
Yeah, you don't want to get marked down on Peeple as the dude with the hairy penis.
I am amazed that they can build something as complex as a human cock and have it actually function. What a time to be alive!
Nerves will be different for him than you. It'll probably feel the same as waxing your arm. Painful, but not in how you're thinking.
Oh I'm sure. It's the visceral reaction to the thought of it.
I think I'd rather just go through life with a dick that looks like a cat's tail.
Define functioning
It also gazes into you...
I think it means capable of penetration.
OK, so basically there is blood flow. I'd be surprised if it was fully functioning because 1) seems like a lot of plumbing to install and 2) if you could actually construct a fully functioning penis to the customers desired specifications, I would think it would be a lot more common....
Prosthetic bladders inside. Pumps up erection like a rebok sneeker.
Other criterion for function: channels pee to outside.

Wow, I expected the trans folks to jump in, but nope, oversensitivity really only goes one way on Jezebel.

The Army will be changing the camouflage pattern of its uniforms in January. I will be among the last to be issued so-called couch camo.
I think it would be better just to have one all tan uniform for deserts and one all olive drab green for jungles, fields, and forests.
My favorite has always been the jungle "Tiger Stripe" camo
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigerstripe
It seems a bit odd to me that mammals never developed green pigmentation. I would think that evolution would favor it. The tree sloth having algae grow on its coat is the closest thing I know to it.
Very few animals see color (the way we do, at least). I think its not unusual for them to see in a version of black and white, with more UV vision than we have.
Do not ignore the Mantis Shrimp, sir.
The winner, as always: Big Fashion
Doesn't each branch get their own pattern, and hasn't that led to service infighting?
It certainly lead to service embarrassment - since the Army pattern didn't work at all while the new Marine patterns were very effective. Probably because the Marines actually brought the patterns to the woods and looked at them to see which would in fact camouflage the wearer.
The Air Force ones in particular are a joke. The brass actually had the sand to call it "office camo" instead of admitting they wasted millions designing a worthless uniform.
I've never seen those, but I thought the Navy Camo took the cake for being "Sci-Fi"-Stupid
" the great camouflage it gives is if you fall overboard," said Navy Secretary Ray Mabus at a Thursday meeting with reporters. Mabus points to what has become a macabre joke among sailors, highlighting the dangers of a shipmate falling into the sea wearing a sea-colored uniform."
Wouldn't you want to blend in with the ship if your wearing navy camo? No one is going to miss the destroyer, the most you can hope for is making sure they can't pick out where most your men are scurrying around.
No.
The risks are drowning, and fire. Both of which benefit from being extra-visible to rescuers. Which is why most deck personnel on Aircraft carriers are wearing bright colors.
WWII strafing runs aside... no enemy has really aimed at the crew on a ship since the age of Chain-Shot.
I read the Marines trademarked their camouflage pattern so no one else could use it. There are also little USMC logos embedded in throughout that uniform.
What happened to everyone being on the same team?
The article is two years old, but it is what I was referring to in my comment.
The problem is that the Army fucked up the ACU's so badly that nobody would use it - including the Army. I could spot soldiers in the bush at twice the distance as the old woodland cammo.
That's a pathetic excuse. The Marine design has little Eagle-Globe-Anchors in the digital pattern. It would take a graphics designer a hour to replace them with stars, or rifles, random shapes, whatever the Army wants.
in other words, "we don't want to use something the Marines invented, and don't want to be mistaken for them".
This. As soon as the Marines went to MARPAT, my first thought was, 'I thought one of the rules of war was to shoot the guys that aren't dressed like you...'
The story about the development and subsequent abandonment of ACUPAT/UCP is also something of a stomach-turner
"Pelak points out this is hardly the first time the Army has spent billions of dollars on insufficient equipment just to spend more money to replace it, recalling the $20 billion Future Combat Systems program that launched in 2003 to develop a fleet of universally used lightweight armored vehicles and was canceled in 2009, ultimately considered a failure.
"It's as ridiculous as buying 20 million humvees to go to war in that weren't armored and then when the war started they had to build all new humvees that were bullet proof," he said. "It's that absurd.""
Eric Shinseki, the douchebag general famous for one quasi-accurate statement ("we'll need 300,000 troops to secure Iraq"), somewhat less famous for presiding over the shit-tastic VA, was actually in charge of the Future Weapons System program which birthed this awful shit... as well as a half-dozen other epic-retarded ideas.
"I think it would be better just to have one all tan uniform for deserts and one all olive drab green for jungles, fields, and forests."
Because this is an obvious solution, it will take decades and billions of dollars to avoid it.
Good breakdown of "gun death" numbers:
First of all, look at the number of gun deaths on that chart from 2011. It's 32,351. That's a lot of gun deaths to be sure. So that's the total number of murders by gun owners, right? The answer is not only Hell No, but it's not even remotely close. It's true that this figure is close to the total number of human lives ended in incidents involving a gun, but that's all incidents. So how did those deaths happen?
Nice work, but then he veers off into the socon weeds.
The answer here isn't new laws to restrict the law abiding who aren't going to be committing crimes in the first place. We need to be enforcing the laws we already have. Get more resources on the job to find and confiscate illegal weapons from criminals. Stop hampering the police with politically correct restrictions and let them get back to the broken windows, stop and frisk, see something say something approach which finds guns in the hands of common criminals before they are used in a murder. We have laws on the books against all these things. We're just not enforcing them.
I'm surprised he didn't throw some bullshit bout the War on Copz in there
Other countries do have lower rates of gun violence, and I absolutely believe that that is due *in part* to lower overall gun ownership rates.
But my impression is that most of the gun homicides in this country (so not counting suicides) stem from gang violence. Maybe that impression is wrong, but it would be interesting to see whether these countries with lower rates of gun violence are also less draconian about the war on drugs. I suspect that if drugs were dealt in the open market, that a lot of the issues underlying gun violence would work themselves out over time.
I think it's due to lower gun ownership rates, but also think that, like drugs, guns cannot be taken off the street if people want guns. If people want heroin they'll get it. If people want guns, they'll get them. I think a gun ban in America (where lots of people want guns ) would actually cause far more violence due to the underground drug sales that would then occur.
Totally agree.
Countries with highly restricted gun sales or gun bans absolutely do have higher rates of violent crimes. The gun grabbers try to obfuscate this by treating 'gun violence' as if it were the only kind of violence.
Never mentioned by them is the fact that their violent crime rates skyrocketed following their gun bans.
Other countries do have lower rates of gun violence, and I absolutely believe that that is due *in part* to lower overall gun ownership rates.
You can't get a decent pattern out of correlating gun violence rates and gun ownership rates, is my understanding. There's always a fistful of exceptions.
Its cultural. And, its not clear even in those societies with high gun ownership and violence rates which way the causation arrow points. Perhaps in more violent societies, more people feel the need for effective self-defense.
Can someone please explain to me why conservatives don't realize stop and frisk is itself a gun control measure?
"We're against gun control, except for the part where the police stop people without cause and pat them down in order to see if they have a pistol."
Actually, both sides are kind of hilarious on stop and frisk. Conservatives refuse to admit it's a gun control measure and liberals talk about how racist and terrible it is despite the fact that any gun ban would require the implementation of similar measures nationwide.
The only objection on both sides is about who is getting frisked.
Forget it, Brooksie, it's Grabbertown.
Tales from the Derp
A Navy Vietnam vet told me a story about another sailor he knew. The guy got in a bar fight in Japan and spent 3 years in a Japanese prison for maiming a Japanese guy. When he got out, he understood Japanese very well, and he got a job where he would sit in meetings between American and Japanese businessmen and play dumb. When the meeting was over, he would tell the American businessmen about any interesting tidbits he'd heard.
Well, that's quite common when dealing with the Bank of China.
You'll have four guys there, and two of them will say nothing. One will be the political 'minder' who simply listens in on the Chinese side of the negotiations. The other quiet one (mute, really) is one of the very rare *very fluent* English speakers who just listens and unloads everything he heard in the post-meeting meeting.

Well, somehow places like Saudi Arabia and Iran didn't get that memo. That's rather like trying to hold an Episcopalian to the biblical prohibitions on pork and shrimp.
LOL, according to Salon Muslim countries must be more progressive on women's rights than America because we didn't pass the useless ERA.
Also, he conveniently neglects to mention that the Koran asserts a woman's testimony should be equal to half that of a man.
You also left out the dumbass quote that follows the part about equality. Here's what the Koran says:
The fact that women are to be rewarded for submission to God in no way precludes women from being treated worse than men. This literally has nothing to do with women's rights under Islam.
Here's a cute Hadith regarding women:
Clearly feminist.
Yeah, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan are leading the charge for gender equality. I think it's in ISIS's manifesto, too.
Today on Morning Joke, the proponents of frenetic Do-Somethingism were talking about what new Gun Safety Laws laws are "needed".
Nobody asked how any of the standard suggestions could be enforced.
Maybe we'll be hearing about repeal of the Third Amendment, soon.
Second?
You know, I would welcome a discussion about appealing the Second Amendment because it would at least be an acknowledgment that it exists. Typically, the gun-grabbers just pretend it out of existence.
Repealing, you mean. We all find the Second very appealing.
Grabbers acknowledge it exists, but pretend that the militia preamble means something. That POV has never been shared by any federal court.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone use bigger guns for their iconic roles as the Terminator and Rambo than did Humphrey Bogart in his 1930s and 1940s film roles.
Excellent comparison, Bogart's roles and the genres of his films being comparable to those of Schwarzenegger and Stallone (neither of whom has been relevant since the 1990s), and weapons technology of the 1930s being comparable to that of the 1980s.
But Bogart would slap a bitch the second she got out of line.
I'm sure it's an accident that he ignored Steve Reeves and Johnny Weismuller in his analysis.
Well, this is working if I have to judge by the males I've seen on college campuses the last few years. About a week ago the NYC Health Dept. phoned every listing in the Morris Park section of the Bronx to tell them there'd been 1 or more cases of Legionnaire's Disease in Morris Park. Such an anmt is a dumb thing to do, considering that Legionnaire's is not contagious. The exposure by the cases had to have been some time previous in a bldg. that may not even have been in that area, and alerting people in the area is useless in terms of prevention or detection.

"Authorities in California say they foiled a school shooting plot near Yosemite National Park."
Authorities foiled a "school shooting" by kids that didn't have any weapons?
Why not include that information in the link rather than feed into the hype?
I didn't see anyone post Trump's comments on the shootings so here we go
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/.....shootings/
"I can make the case that if there were guns in that room other than [the shooter's], fewer people would have died, fewer people would have been so horribly injured," Mr. Trump said on NBC's "Meet the Press."
"If you had more guns, you'd have more protection because the right people would have the guns," he added.
I know we're all sick of Trump, but there's a reason I'm posting this. If Trump's views are a litmus test for populism, we can at last take heart in the fact that most of the country realizes that guns don't cause mass shootings. It's easy to forget when we are being constantly bombarded by gun control derp from the media.
Actually, my gut tells me that Trump is pandering to Republican voters, there.
My guess is that Trump doesn't think anybody should have guns except the guys on his security detail.
His views have been more consistently populist than Republican. Unless he's switching strategies for some reason he knows there are moderate Democrats who aren't all in favor of gun control, which has definitely been my experience.
This
Guns are massively popular everywhere but where journalists and politicians tend to originate. It's only true fear of mass disobedience and being voted out of office that keeps congress from outlawing them. Journalists don't have to worry about getting voted out of office, so they are free to live in their make believe world where everyone is as much of a hoplophobe as they are.
