Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis returns to work.
So to speak.
Hello.
Malone.
Damn.
I remember his 'Fo, Fo, Fo!' prediction.
A rather enjoyable Madonnina yesterday, Rufus. Adriano will certainly rue his missed chances. Both teams look much improved (admittedly that's not saying much, given what both teams have trotted out the past couple years).
AC Milan is a mess. I like Bacca. He was devastating for Sevilla.
Inter is definitely on a better path.
How the mighty have fallen, eh?
And then there's Juve and Chelsea. Yikes!
Bayern got a little break this week-end. What a goal by Lewandowski.
/lights Ted S. signal.
Weak penalty?
AC Milan look less of a mess than they did six months ago. The big thing is they're spending money again, if not at previous levels.
Bacca looks a good buy. I was quite surprised he was removed rather than Adriano.
Serie A outspent the other three big leagues this year.
They do look better but still meh for now.
Nice goal by Guarin though.
AC Milan is a mess.
Good.
I had to laugh at them trotting out Balotelli (again). The man is unmanageable but at least AC Milan seems like a good fit.
Bayern got a little break this week-end.
I was so rooting for Augsburg while simultaneously knowing what would happen.
Goooo oooooooooooo oooooaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallll lllllllllllllllllllllll!!! *puts one of those stupid horns(the name eludes me thankfully) in the trash.
Vuvuzela?
As a (somewhat) proud alum of Petersburg High School, Mo's passing makes me very sad.
Malone's death gives an opportunity for rare basketball talk here...I know we rip on Venezuela's economy, but they won the FIBA Americas championship over the weekend. Basically the biennial championship of the western hemisphere which this year also serves as an Olympic qualifying tournament. (Though the USA hasn't played in one of these since 2007). Maybe with the depression in the world oil market Venezuela can start exporting NBA players to bring hard currency back home? Only 2 of their 12 players play outside of Venezuela. Barring more labor friction the NBA salary market is about to experience another boom cycle.
And wrt Moses...such a joy to watch as an offensive rebounder, although it helps when you're chasing your own (rumored intentional?) misses. Lots of glowing comments from younger players I was unaware he mentored, as he had (at his time) a near-unique background coming straight from high school to the pros.
At the expense of Canada. Man did their inexperience show. I was disappointed in their play.
Yeah, once Canada avoided Argentina & Mexico in the semis I figured they were in. Given their youth I thought the compacted schedule would be in their favor. Their future definitely looks bright, as long as their young highly-drafted talent doesn't get discouraged as they keep ending up on perennial NBA losing teams.
I still haven't figured out who's going to be impacted once FIBA changes to home-and-home style qualifiers. Last I heard there was talk of the games occurring largely during existing professional seasons.
I know we rip on Venezuela's economy, but they won the FIBA Americas championship over the weekend.
This is the new OED entry for "non sequitur", right?
Probably best to pretend I ordered my points a little better:
Venezuela won big basketball tournament Sunday
Country's an economic disaster due to socialist policy and oil price collapse
New natural resource - Pro basketball players
Profit?
The campaign of Bernie Sanders doesn't like comparisons to Howard Dean's failed 2004 bid.

If only Howard Dean would have realized if he would have slipped some shades up and down his nose and sounded like Roger Daltry things would have gone very differently.

Is he even serious about wanting to be president? He won't say anything regarding hillary.
He might be serious about settling for vice president.
His policies concern me. I hope he fades away
I hope this thread dies before it gets old.
I still have no idea what the hell happened there. Why was shouting "yeeeahhh" a terrible thing? Losing Iowa wasn't good, obviously, but that seems to go down as a footnote to the scream.
Just one of those things. He was going great guns until he let out that scream, then it was all downhill. Lefties are fickle that way.
Dean's flame-out overall was like reading a cynic's version of the Little Engine that Could, where about half way up the mountain Tommy the Train sucks a valve.
Dean's 'Yeah' scream was the valve sucking part of the story, the inescapable sign to all involved this little train was rolling back down the mountain.

Jennerating content
Oh FFS
Kris Jenner really is one of the greatest celebrity managers of all time. Not only does she control the family's image on TV but - thanks to a deal with MailOnline last year ? they've ensured a steady stream of positivity where you might otherwise have expected to see the family slagged off.
And she hasn't stopped there. Kris is said to be behind a whole new circle of well-funded US celeb sites which largely focus on the comings and goings of the Jenner-Kardashian clan.
The niftiest part is that they can publish whatever stories they like ? including some wild rumours they know that their sister-publications can (and will) immediately debunk ?
all the while knowing that other media sites will pick the stories up and send them round the world.
What's going on here with this thread?
Yes, ifh does seem somewhat, um, agitated this morning this evening at this time.
i pasted the whole thing into the box, and hit submit. Only the first two lines posted. So i had to do it sentence by freakin' sentence. Would this have happened under Virginia Postrel? I think not
She even got Bruce to become Caitlyn to keep the media attention focused on them.
I wonder what the history 'books' will say about the Jenners in 100 years?
"Jenner, the first transgender President, precipitated World World IV in a feminizing-hormone-induced rage."
That might be funny if it wasn't so frighteningly conceivable.
the comings and goings of the Jenner-Kardashian clan
The only thing I know about any of them is that one or more of them look like misshapen aliens.

Hillary Clinton is polling under 50 percent nationally for the first time, fueled by a significant drop in support by white women...
Me-ow.
Praying for a free-fall soon.
She's in a free-fall. She now trails by double-digits in Iowa. Her support from white wimmins had dropped by 50% since July.
It looks like a total meltdown, but we need to see if her new strategy of scripting herself to be more authentic and scheduling more spontaneity will reverse this.
A total meltdown will involve "I'm taking all you clowns down with me!"
Last time, we were treated to Fightin' Hillary shaking her fists while giving speeches from the bed of a pickup truck, and claiming she needed to stay in the race just in case someone assassinated Obama. This time, an "It's just a flesh wound, I've 'ad worse!! I'm invincible! INVINCIBLE!!!!" would be nice.
It has nothing to do with the fact that she is a corrupt, Washington-establishment, Wall Street shill with no charisma and no accomplishments to speak of.
"I'll bite yer kneecaps off!"
We just need to keep updating Hill-bot's authenticity and likeability programs.
Of course, the headline "Hillary below 50%" only works with Biden in the poll ?if one clicks through to the actual numbers, there's a question/version excluding the VP-noncandidate; with only the actual people running as choice, Clinton pops back up above that mark.
Obligatory: "Where the white women at?"

Where are the thinkpieces on what Donald Trump thinks about this?
Fuck that, have the millennials been polled?
And where are the *codpieces*?
You wrote the word "think" about two times too many for a sentence involving Donald Trump.
The proper word is 'say'.
There is no 'think' when it comes to The Donald. Thinking is for indecisive little people.

Roger has an unforced error problem as he ages!
Not against Stan he didn't. Fucking DEMOLISHED Wawrinka. One of his games took 38 seconds!
Yeah that was a killer match.
Yeah but against top players in the final he does. I wonder if he can get one more GS title.
Last night he had a chance to bury Novak but whiffed.
Novak is lucky he didn't fracture his lower leg/foot yesterday. I cringed when I saw that.
Well, specifically against one top player in the final who he keeps running into over and over again who is the best player in the world and is more than half a decade younger than him.
I know. I'm nit-picking but it's because it would have been cool to see Federer win at this stage of his career. Nothing against Novak (he is an AC Milan fan after all) tennis can be frustrating to watch when you lean towards one player.
Or maybe I'm projecting. I'm a solid tennis player but man do I rock with the unforced errors.
Hey, man, no one wants to see the GOAT in tennis win one more more than me! I am onboard that bandwagon!!
Our new Miss America:
Did he cheat? Um, that's a really good question! I'm not sure. I think I'd have to be there to see the ball, and feel it to make sure it was deflated or not deflated. But if there was question there, then yes, I think he cheated. If there were any question to be had, I think that he definitely cheated, and he should've been suspended for that. That's not fair.
Of course the correct answer is "How the hell would I know? I wasn't there and I haven't analyzed any evidence."
I think I'd have to be there to see the ball, and feel it

: Rand Paul will attack Trump on eminent domain abuse at debate
Paul later told me he thinks he has found an approach that will separate Trump from the rest of the GOP field: eminent domain. "A hallmark of Republicans is that they respect private property. But Trump runs roughshod over it," he said. "He is a serious abuser of taking property for his private benefit."
Paul recounted the story of Vera Coking, an elderly widow who lived in a three-story house in Atlantic City. Trump decided he wanted a "fantastic" limousine parking lot for his Trump Plaza hotel. He bought up nearby properties, but Coking declined to sell. So Trump had a local government agency ? the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) ? do the dirty work of seizing her property. CRDA offered her $250,000 for the property ? one-fourth of what another hotel builder had offered her a decade earlier. When Coking wouldn't budge, CRDA went to court to seize her property under eminent domain.
Coking went to court represented by the Institute of Justice and was able to win. As the Washington Post reported this month: "In the long melodrama that is Trump's business career, the house in Atlantic City is the place where all the billionaire's money and all the billionaire's men couldn't keep a 5-foot-3 widow from whupping him."
Nice.

Actually, all Trump fans are below average.
Actually, all Trump fans are below average.
Like Lake Wobegon...only in reverse.
Lake Joibegon?
"Did she have a hat saying that property was hers?"
Dipping his hand. Why would he announce his debate strategy?
My thoughts as well
To give the press something to look out for, thus building some hype. And really, what can Team Donald say against that?
"That bitch is a loser who should have taken my generous offer?" Although I realize that might actually work given what Trump fans like to hear.
He'll appeal to the closeted command/control types about one greedy landlord preventing thousands of high paying construction jerbs and economic prosperity.
"I offered the lady $5 million dollars for her little dump that wasn't worth a fraction of that. She could've taken the money and literally moved anywhere in the world. I don't know if she was crazy or just greedy but I do know that I was very generous to her"
"And ultimately the project failed, in part because of her ... whatever... She kept her house, temporarily and thousands of people lost there jobs because of her. Ultimately, her home was foreclosed by a bank and sold at auction for less than a quarter of what I offered her for the house."
I hope Rand means that he will physically attack Trump for this. Otherwise, I don't care.
I would *definitely* vote for him then.
I've been trying to remember where I first read about this eminent domain abuse story, so I googled it and found out it was this John Stossel book from a few years ago. I also found a blog post that reprinted Stossel's exchange with Trump in it.
http://www.thelibertypapers.or.....y-re-post/
Donald Trump was offended when I called him a bully for trying to force an old lady out of her house to make more room for his Atlantic City casino. After the interview, the producer stayed behind to pack up our equipment. Trump came back into the room, puffed himself up, and started blustering, "Nobody talks to me that way!"
Well, someone should.
Awesome
I really want one of the candidates to call him on the fact that he's so thin-skinned. I don't give a shit about the fact that he's a "bully", the word is thrown around so much and for such petty reasons that it can reflect worse on the person using it. The bigger problem is when it's overcompensation for being easily offended. It's a bad quality for someone who is supposed to be leading the free world.
Whoopsie!

The British Bernie Sanders who had this to say about Venezuela:

Germany re-imposed border controls...
I thought it was their inalienable right to get welfare from the richest country possible? Shikha told me so.
You know who else imposed German border controls...
Marshal Zukhov?
Next up, camps for these refugees where all of the services can be concentrated in one small area for efficiency.
Germany re-imposed border controls...
Germany is just lucky their illegal immigrants can't swim like ours can.
It took all of what... a week? for Germany to decide that opening the floodgates was maybe not in their best interest.
More balls on those women than the French Parliament.
Yeah, the second one "ejected" got a nice little boot party.
Oh, well, live and learn, I guess.
Muslims gonna Muslim. I mean I could see an ass beating coming down on her from a security guard or producers of the event, but it's telling that an angry mob formed in the predominantly Muslim crowd almost instantly to administer this beating.
Everybody needs a jihad to get into heaven
There's really no winners here. Certainly nobody to root for.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FEMEN
I would like to subscribe to their newsletter or pinup calendar. whatever they have.
Compared to your average feminist, these femen protesters have nice tits. Probably because Eastern European women are over-represented in that group.
In September 2013 FEMEN came under heavy criticism when the Australian documentary film-maker Kitty Green exposed a man named Victor Svyatski as the mastermind behind the group. ... Svyatski admits he is the brain behind the group, stating that the girls would not have been able to start FEMEN without him ... Activist Inna Shevchenko admits later in the documentary that the patriarchal system runs so deep in Ukrainian women, it was probably indeed not possible to start FEMEN without Svyatski, but is also clear that this is not something that can continue much longer.
So they drummed him out because penis. What a charming bunch.
I misread that as "Topless Fremen Activists" and got worried about how long they could survive without wearing their stillsuits...
Let's see if the squirrels still don't count https links against the three link limit.
Bonus.
Shit. It's a two link limit, not a three link limit, but only if the URL you are posting starts with http.
Speaking of https://, what's everyone doing now that Reasonable doesn't seem to work well on a reason.com that redirects to https://reason.com/blog ?
Most are going to Firefox and fascr. I don't have that option and am marinating in Hell.
I'm going to feel so dirty, using Firefox. At least there's a Portable version available.
Why?
I had some very nasty experiences with Firefox about 18 months ago, performance, reliability etc. I vowed to never use it again, and I hate breaking promises I make myself.
I'd use Pale Moon, but the current version doesn't seem to like fascr.
Interesting. I can't say as I've seen much that I know was attributable to FF itself. I know at work they aren't running the bleeding edge, but I keep the Linux machines at home pretty up-to-date. The Windows machine probably lags a bit, but not much, and my wife hasn't had too many complaints about FF itself (and she's a big-time complainer about anything having to do with computers).
Ah, I must try the portable version.
I also wonder if it would perform any better on my complete POS machine at work.
I've started (selectively) to use portable tools for internet connectivity. They often are faster, simply because when people out there create these portable versions, they'll often disable as much as they can while maintaining 'reasonable' functionality.
If reasonable is available on github I would love to port to Safari
BACK OFF APPLE HATERS!
It is!
https://github.com/brymck/reasonable
Sweet. I asked for this like 50 MILLION TIMES but whatevs...it takes tarran to deliver, whoda thunk it.
Reasonable is available on github.
I want to play around with the code but I haven't been able to get it to build yet.
DEG reins supreme over the Reason commentariat.
As the years go by you get more anniversaries that are a cause for reflection rather than celebration and today is such an anniversary for me so I'll just put this here as perhaps something to think about. (Subtitled)
Fuck, there goes the neighborhood.
Hillary Clinton will return to Nashua this week.
Clinton is scheduled for a three-day swing in the Granite State starting Thursday, when she will address substance abuse during a stop in Nashua at 11:30 a.m. Her campaign has not yet revealed where she will speak.
Maybe she should invite Bill Bennett. He's full of fresh ideas.
They haven't announced where she will speak?!?
Man, she must be real popular to be able to fill up a venue with less than three days notice.
she will address substance abuse during a stop in Nashua
This sounds like the party of the century.
World Narrowly Avoids Saddest Hipster Fistfight
I kind of like the Black Keys. Jack White seems to be a giant asshole.
Neither the hipsterdom of the Black Keys, nor White's assholishness prevent me from enjoying either's music.
Plus, Akron, bitches!
Jack White is not a hipster. He's a living, breathing Victorian illustration of the dangers of masturbation
"dudefights"
You know, to differentiate it from those weave-ripping catfights women are always getting into.
That might be a pretty good fight, actually. Both of those dudes are wiry and tall as hell, so they'd have impressive reach.
I don't know Black Keys but I have always loathed the White Stripes with the proverbial heat of a thousands suns, so... go Black Keys?

Pentacontakaitetracopter takes flight
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...a middle-aged British man in what looks to be a modified lawn chair powered by dozens of toy helicopters. Just as Orville and Wilbur Wright first proved the possibility of human flight on a beach in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, YouTuber gasturbine101 has answered the unasked question?"Can 54 drone rotors be assembled in such a way that they lift a seated human being into the air for a sustained period of time?"?with a resounding yes (disregarding the perhaps equally important, though much less fun, question of "But why would you?").
"Next on MythBusters..."
You'd need a phalanx weapon system to bring that sucker down. Or a punt gun.
This is unpossible, isn't it? Nobody and I mean NOBODY could be this fucking stupid and dishonest can they?
http://usatoday.com.co/obama-t.....ace-prize/
It hasn't been announced yet
http://www.thatsfake.com/is-pr.....ace-prize/
lol.
... not. sure. if. serious...
All the proof you need that the Nobel Prize (and most awards) are complete and utter bullshit. The favored people win them while the people who actually matter and make demonstrable contributions in the world languish in anonymity.
Good lord
Aww, c'mon. It's a monstrous, lit-up-with-Kleig-lights twofer, demonstrating the vacuous reality of both the Nobel Peace Prize committee and "tanned Jesus".
Give the poor bastard a break. he has to have something on his resume to justify those $500k speaking gigs he'll be selling. Feeding the Wookie isn't cheap.
That is a good parody site.
I like the news ticker...
"Trump wants to plant a flag in Uranus"
"Cynthia Francis, wife of Pope Francis, seeks annulment to 38 yr marriage"
And just added:

Nerds - anyone have a recommendation for a good, basic, non-jargony intro to using Git? Something that might include integration with GUIs like SourceTree (momma no good with command line).
Non-jargony intro guide? Sorry, I don't know of any such thing exists for git.
I only use sourcetree for a few things because I prefer the command line and I don't think sourcetree was all that well thought out.
Whenever I can't figure out how to do something with git, I spend time searching stackoverflow.
I read through this book when I had to learn git. It does get sort of jargon heavy, but it was ok for me.
http://git-scm.com/book/en/v2
I hate to say it KK but Git is most powerful on the command line. But, if you don't need many of the functions it provides then you will probably be fine. As for resources: Here is a good start
Wow.
When I hit that link, it looked like I'd hit TheOatmeal.
NTTAWWT, of course.
Thanks y'all! They've thrown us onto this project where a bunch of people quit at the same time and we had two days of training with the outgoing developer, when two weeks would have been barely enough.
Mad props on the pic of the fetal part provider giving a Seig Heil under the headline about German borders.
Fetal parts? Boy, Kim Davis really has all her bases covered.
Wow - it's like you're pacifically trying to make Nicole mad, for all intensive purposes.
They were ambushimg with a rich cheesecake?
Nice.
We don't need 23 choices of toilet paper.
It's not authentic if the government didn't build it.
OT but somewhat related, a couple of years ago an inspector was ball busting at the day care and decided she was gonna nit-pick on whether we should classify dairy as protein on our menus - like as if it mattered to parents. They literally don't give a shit about crap like that and say so at our assemblies. But the government wants it so...you have to follow their trail of arbitrary applications and ignorance.
Out of curiosity, I called the Feds and asked what their position on the matter was. The lady was just as burnt at the provincial one. Lotta 'well you know' and 'it's not easy' crap. No kidding.
So she did what any bureaucrat does and sent me brochures and propaganda regarding Canada's dietary recommendations. All fluff and not really helpful.
All it means in the end is we're slaves to how they interpret the codes and we can never win.
Oh well. Life goes on as Corky taught us.
Yeah, the whole point of the regulatory state is to give the state the power to make a criminal out of anyone they desire to.
"a couple of years ago an inspector was ball busting at the day care and decided she was gonna nit-pick on whether we should classify dairy as protein on our menus"
"OK... You're the inspector, you tell us! Should we, or not?"
^ THIS +1000
You should of spell checked you're post, their.
My wife learned to mow the lawn this weekend. Your argument is invalid.
Mine knows how, she just refuses to do it or help me.
