Close Enough for Police Work

Norfolk, Virginia, police officers came into Ryan Kilgore's workplace, announced he was under arrest for production and possession of child pornography and handcuffed him. Then they got on the radio and told their headquarters they had Ryan Fultz in custody. Kilgore told them that wasn't him. At that point, they checked his ID and discovered they had the wrong Ryan.

No doubt they immediately apologized profusely and went around to all his coworkers and it was their bureaucratic incompetence, not Ryan’s perversion that caused the misunderstanding.

The story says it was about a 21 YO in possession of a photo of a 17 YO (who was initially said to be 13 YO). So even when they got the right Ryan….

You could say they couldn’t find water if they fell out of a boat, but with examples like this it seems more accurate to say they think they have found water every time they step out of their squad cars.
