Battle Brewing Over Dutch Drones Scheduled to Drop Abortion Drugs in Poland
The "abortion drones" are scheduled to launch from Germany this Friday and deliver prohibited pills to Poland, where abortion remains mostly illegal.

The Dutch activist group Women on Waves (WOW) is planning to use drones to deliver abortion-inducing drugs to the women of Poland, where abortion is almost entirely banned. The "abortion drones" are scheduled to launch from Frankfurt, Germany, this Saturday and carry the medication to Slubice, Poland, where Polish women's groups will be waiting to receive and distribute the pills.
Polish law prohibits abortion except in cases of rape or incest, severe fetal malformation, or threats to a pregnant woman's life. Rebecca Gomperts, founder of the Netherlands-based WOW, told The Guardian:
We want to create awareness about women's right to a safe abortion. The drone is another way to use the different laws in different countries in order to draw attention to the social injustice that women who are living in places where abortion is illegal are subject to.
In Poland, even women who could have an abortion under Polish law are often denied it because Catholic hospitals don't help them, even if their life is in danger. Rich people can go to Germany or the UK to have abortions, but it's the women who don't have the means or access to information who are suffering.
Because the drones won't be flying through controlled airspace, weigh less than 11 pounds, and are not for commercial purposes, their launch does not require permission from either the Polish or German governments, according to WOW.
Still, that doesn't mean the group and its allies (including German's women's groups Ciocia Basia and the Feminoteka Foundation) expect everything to go smoothly. Anti-abortion groups have pledged to shoot down the drones, which is why WOW has yet to announce the exact location for the Friday drop. However, "it's not easy to shoot down a drone and fortunately guns are not that easy to get in Europe," Gromperts pointed out.
WOW currently provides mail-order abortion medication to women in many countries around the world, but this is its first drone-delivery mission of the drugs. If successful, the group plans to try similarly in other European countries with aggressive abortion restrictions, such as Ireland and Malta.

I seem to remember another time Germany invaded Poland...
Oh, and First! Dudes!
And they were bent on reducing Polish births then too.
We were invited. Punch vas served. Check vit Poland
Vary NAICE!
This would be awesome in the United States.
Think of the possibilities!
People from Massachusetts mights start dropping abortion drugs into Alabama.
Texans might start using drones to drop guns and ammunition into Massachusetts.
It would probably be more like Texans dropping abortion drugs in northern mexico...
"We're gonna need a bigger drone."
As a Baystater I hope you're right!
Do the drones have "Death from Above" written on them?
no. they have "Never Alive from Above" on them.
Which of the 7 characteristics of living things does a fetus fail to meet?
Steady paycheck.
Taxpayer.
A vote.
Mastery of algebra
well, 7 is arbitrary- but viability outside the womb?
Lot's of living creatures can't live outside of specific environments.
yes. parasites. if their life depends on the (unwanted and forced) assistance of others then do they have a right to life?
Convenience.
I'm completely against abortion as no one has even begun to convince me it's not a violation of NAP.
That being said, the tool itself isn't evil, the act is. You don't ban a tool. (Abusus non tollit usum.)
A real violation of NAP is when you're forced to have an unwanted child and they won't go to sleep in the afternoon, no matter how tired and grumpy they are.
Spencer, if you didn't want children, then you shouldn't have kidnapped them.
but the idea of someone else to mow the yard was sooooo appealing.
Ace, the NAP does not protect trespassers. If a trespasser refuses or fails to leave your property when ordered out, libertarian principle entitles you to expel him by force, even if he cannot live off your property and being driven off it causes his death. You don't owe him a living. If he is trespassing inside your body, you are even more entitled to use deadly force to expel him, because body ownership is a stronger form of ownership than ownership of mere property.
Furthermore, the unwelcome fetus is itself violating the NAP against the womb-owner, by taking materials (water, oxygen, nutrients) from her bloodstream without her ongoing consent, conducting a chemical raid upon her body; by injecting toxic metabolic end-products (carbon dioxide, creatinine) into her bloodstream without her continuing permission, poisoning her, and by preparing to subject her to major medical/surgical trauma in the form of full-term labor and delivery which is a potentially life-threatening assault. The self-defense principle entitles her to prevent or stop these three assaults, using deadly force against her fetus, if deadly force is necessary in order to do so.
The womb owner didn't just invite the fetus in, she engaged in strenuous activity to create the fetus, she helped start it's existence knowing full well that the process takes 40 weeks to complete, knowing the extent of the process with regards to nutritionary and excretatory functions.
You do not get to deny someone the right to life when you have forced them into this position and will only be inconvenienced for 40 weeks--if that is your wish--to accept the minimum responsibility for your actions.
"fortunately guns are not that easy to get in Europe,"
Lede buried.
Yeah, but the quote is from a pro-abortion person whom ENB wants to represent as sympathetic to liberty. Do you think she'd highlight such a quote?
The Poles should manufacture a lot of cheap guns and airdrop them on the Netherlands. Hey, they're not committing murder, they're just helping natives who want to get rid of an unwanted neighbor.
+1 Blyskawitza (fuck you Polish spelling, can't be arsed to look it up) SMG!
that 11lb limit is hard to get under if you're flying weapons. Drugs are perfect for drone delivery. I'm surprised we haven't seen more coming from Mexico.
Even if they're disassembled?
If they're good at what they do and it pays for the cartels to use this, it's likely in use, just not widely known.
Anti-abortion groups have pledged to shoot down the drones
-----------
Wait, what? I assume their plan is to shoot some sort of projectiles into the air to cause 11 pound machines to crash uncontrollably to the ground? Does anybody else think this is an incredibly stupid idea?
Bring it, bitches!
Why do all the women in the picture have the circles on their cheeks, like ventriloquist's dummies? What are they implying?
That they're...
*Scratches head, shifts feet*
They're...dummies?
Right, it's the people who are, literally, defending their country against abortion drones who are the problem. The people sending illegal drones into another sovereign nation aren't the problem, no sir.
It's an abortion drone, and it's come for your wimmin!
Will the drones have OCA and SEAD support?
SEAD's tough to pull off, but in this case, I think you send the first wave of drones with porn, when the defenders shoot them down, they'll be so busy checkin' out what they shot, they'll never be ready for the second wave with the abortion drugs in trail. Call it "Psyop SEAD."
You Know Who Else opposed Dutch people trying to trade things?
Cromwell?
the japanese? The chinese? Most of southeast asia?
Re: Winston,
They must be trading pills for kisses or something, because showering an area with expensive drugs for no pecuniary return is not trade in my Scrooge McDuck's Don't Be Stupid With Your Money book.
You Know Who Else opposed having goods sent by Dutch People?
Are you happy?
Royal Navy in WWI? And Napoleonic Wars? And during 17th and 18th Century? And at the time of Spanish Armada?
I think people should kill all the zygotes they want (that are within their own bodies). However, there's a good rule of thumb:
DON"T FUCK WITH SOVEREIGNTY.
Why? "Sovereignty" is a nation-state and government concept, and is just another manifestation of the monopoly on force. Fuck sovereignty.
I'm sure he meant the individual's sovereignty over their own person, including the freedom to excise any parasitic tissues within that they please. Because, as you point out, national sovereignty is retarded.
He's against nation sovereignty because he's secretly a one-worlder.
Hey! You promised that pillowtalk would stay strictly between us, you little bedwetter!
NEW WORLD ORDER!
A lot of European countries are wishing they'd exert a little more sovereignty.
Why individual autonomy? It is just another manifestation of run away gestalt bias. Individuals are just a collection of self-operating cells. As long as someone doesn't harm all the cells in my body they are not violating NAP.
Well, they'll continue to give away expensive drugs until their husbands, tired of this expensive hobby, cut their credit cards and send them back to the kitchen where they belong.
Dutch apple pie?
You think non-profits use their members' money? It's probably 60% government cash, 40% donations.
If you'd just keep your Polska Kielbasa in your pants...
Well, this does make the retarded flag freakout feel slightly less stupid
Not by much.
Exactly. They checked. With the Polish and German governments.
The Polish are going to call those safe-zones their new Skeet Alleys. 😉
This would give new meaning to the phrase "Polish corridor".
They checked. With the Polish and German governments.
No, it says the activist group claims it doesn't require permission, not that the Polish and German governments agree it doesn't require permission.
Which ... seems a bit dubious, right?
Poland: Anti-abortion but Pro-Pony.
Sounds like the plot of a TV melodrama about a poor servant girl who tries to get an abortion in a Catholic hospital and is told that they don't do that sort of thing because they don't fucking want to, much to the "consternation" of anti-private property feminists and their gullible libertarian followers.
Being pregnant in Poland is not the same as being pregnant anywhere else. In Poland, you suffer.
Do you guys even believe this stuff? I find it hilarious and even more risible that Nolan would take it seriously.
In former Soviet-bloc nations, abortion have you.
Look, do you understand how hard it is to travel from Poland to Germany? What with the Iron Curtain, and armed guards, and guard dogs, and armed guard dogs?
At the Polish side of the border I *would* want a guy to feed the dog and a dog to keep the guy from fucking up watching the border.
Yeah. I thought they had open borders in Europe now and bus travel everywhere for pretty cheap.
So you're saying the women who have to carry unwanted pregnancies (and care for unwanted children) because they live in a country that only allows abortions in very limited circumstances, and some hospitals won't perform them under any circumstance, and they don't have the money to travel to a country where they can get one aren't suffering?
Fuck freedom of association. Catholic hospitals do what I want now. And fuck no I've never donated to a Catholic hospital. Do what I want because I am sheberterian hear me meow.

"Fuck freedom of association. Catholic hospitals do what I want now. And fuck no I've never donated to a Catholic hospital. Do what I want because I am sheberterian hear me meow."
How the hell ARE ya, Sam?
Oh, and fuck off.
Exactly. The only possible reason libertarians might wish people to have access to tested, widely available pharmaceuticals is because they're so high-lariously gullible. Must be all that weed they smoke.
Did someone say weed?
(twitches like Zoidberg when he hears the word "food")
I thought you only did that when someone says "coke"?
(double twitch)
Rich people can go to Germany or the UK to have abortions ________________, but it's the women poor people who don't have the means or access to information who are suffering.
First, this is a totally generic complaint that confuses positive rights and negative rights, so it kinda grinds my gears on principle.
Second, who doesn't have access to information these days?
It was the best of pregnancies, it was the worst of pregnancies, it was the age of folic acid, it was the age of RU-486...
Wait a minute, I had a name for this. The Bore-Less Airlift.
First Skymester Cargo.
Leftwombsa Airlines?
Fallopian Tubeways. Air Vajayjay.
Coat Hanger Express.
Back Alley Airways
Engelmacher Luftfracht GmbH?
So the dutch are trying to exterminate the Poles? Sweet!
are not for commercial purposes,
Interesting definitional question, really.
These are drugs being delivered for their intended use, that have been paid for by somebody else.
By this definition, a pharmacy dispensing drugs paid for by insurance isn't engaging in commerce, either.
So this was the drone Mexican cartels tried out.
Seems like these vehicles are way more fun than I first thought.
So is "Dutch feminists" the new PC term for dykes?
Nice.
If I understand the article correctly, they are transporting some drugs from Germany to Poland, delivering them to a group of people. The drone will presumably be piloted by soemone riding in a car that keeps it in view.
They could accomplish the same act by secreting the drugs *in* the car. Nobody is getting an abortion; they merely are smuggling some stuff and showing it off to reporters.
In other words it's a publicity stunt using the coolness factor of a new technology to put bums in seats.
The true revolutionary act would be drones that fly themselves to preprogrammed destinations and quietly building a system that would actually provide abortions. They are clearly not doers, but more the sort of ineffectual talkers that the Judean People's Front was famous for.
I'm pretty sure I could build a drone strong enough to swing a baseball bat.
Just...wow. Oh Bartleby...
Without checking I assume "you know who else" jokes have been made like 10 times already, right?
Can we call it the "Abortionblitzkrieg"?
1) What kind of cunt is fucking dumb enough to go to a Catholic hospital in *Poland* to try and get an abortion? It's like expecting a favorable response from your local synagogue to the idea of hosting your annual Stormfront Appreciation Banquet.
2) Dunno if you've looked at a map, Lizzie. Poland's real close to Germany. It's also damn close to the Czech Republic, the Baltic states, and any number of places a woman can go to get an abortion if she's really that desperate.
3) Factually, it's the case that despite these avenues for abortion, the abortion rate in Poland plunged following passage of pro-life legislation -- and that very few women travel abroad in search of abortions. This, despite the fact that women are not prosecuted under Polish abortion laws (only doctors can be jailed for performing abortions). This would seem to bolster the argument that most abortions are a matter of convenience rather than necessity, and that criminalizing the practice will merely cause women to shift to using birth control responsibly, rather than seek out more costly or more dangerous sources for their abortions.
These drones won't change much about the practical situation in Poland, they won't increase support for abortion in Poland, and they aren't going to make abortion any easier or cheaper for Polish women or doctors. They will make some Dutch feminists feel good and get them more donations -- so, hats off to them for their heroic service to womenkind.
I can't wait for these brave advocate to fly abortion meds into Saudi Arabia or Iran.
Yeah.
Hey, maybe people who can't afford US medicine would benefit from drones crossing from Canada or Mexico (or CO or WA for cannabis) to the US.
Or maybe a drone can attack an abortion clinic or practicioner. Tech works both ways.
Are you sure you want the debate to move to this higher level?
"The Law of Unintended Consequences is strong with this one."
Fun and stupid aren't mutually exclusive...
11 pounds isn't that much. They won't be flying that high, and if they can hit them with a gun, they can dodge them when they fall.
If they can dodge a wrench, they can dodge a drone.
You don't think so? Well hold my beer and watch this.
Are we talking an African swallow or a European swallow?
Extra full choke, Federal shells with Flitecontrol wads. Why fuck around?
Fuck it. Go turkey choke, with turkey magnum shells.
I'm guessing these drones are going to be pretty high up. You'll need the reach.
I'm guessing all of Europe requires non-toxic shot. No full choke with steel.
Or an extended trap choke, which is basically the same thing. Damn, I haven't shot trap in a while.
A flying turkey launched from a helicopter.
