University's Creepy Bias Reporting System Wants Students' Names, Addresses, Soc Numbers
If you see something, say something

The University of Colorado-Boulder would like students to inform on each other when they witness "bias incidents," by reporting the perpetrators and turning over all relevant information—including names, phone numbers, addresses, and university ID or Social Security Numbers—to the administration.
What counts as a bias incident is, as always, entirely subjective. An official who spoke with The College Fix clarified that "this in no way is meant to curtail free speech." Nevertheless, the university's website encourages students to report each other for engaging in a broad range of constitutionally protected speech:
For the purposes of this protocol, a "bias-motivated incident" is any of the following:
- Discrimination — Occurs when an individual suffers an adverse consequence, on the basis of one or more of their protected classes.
- Harassment — Verbal or physical conduct that unreasonably interferes with an individual's work or academic performance or creates an intimidating or hostile work or educational or living environment. Examples may include, but are not limited to, epithets, images, slurs, jokes; electronic communication or other verbal, graphic or physical conduct.
- Acts of Intolerance — Conduct motivated by discriminatory bias or hatred toward other individuals or groups based on perceived or actual characteristics of race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, political affiliation, or political philosophy or other attribute.
While it depends on the context, these things are all protected to varying degrees. Acting with intolerance is morally wrong, but it isn't illegal—and it's certainly not something a public university should be trying to prevent by turning its students into spies for Big Brother. As Katherine Timpf of National Review writes:
CU Boulder insists that it "values freedom of expression" and "open debate" — although you could see how threats of being documented by Social Security number for saying the wrong thing might discourage people from speaking their minds.
The university's campaign advertising the bias reporting system was equally oblivious. The student government's diversity commission put up flyers channeling the Department of Homeland Security's creepy "If You See Something, Say Something" public service announcements, only way more offensive. The flyers used supposedly real-life examples of bias incidents, like "Go back to Africa, you don't belong here" and "Your mom must be the janitor 'cause that's the only job for dirty Mexicans." For completely understandable reasons, many students found the flyers themselves to be offensive, and tore them down.
Instead, they should have reported the student government using the bias reporting system. (Kids: Don't forget the Social Security Numbers!)

this in no way is meant to curtail free speech
The awful part is they might actually believe this, so fucked up is there definition of "free speech".
Intentions mean everything.
Acts of Intolerance ? Conduct motivated by discriminatory bias or hatred toward other individuals or groups based on perceived or actual characteristics of race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, political affiliation, or political philosophy or other attribute.
So campus Republicans and Libertarians become a protected class, right?
No, silly. Those are Hate Groups.
OT: Who is Steve Smith? I keep hearing about him raping, and was only able to come up with an old HNR article about him: http://reason.com/24-7/2013/05.....ted-in-ohi
Did he post here or something?
And then there is the rep from Maricopa, Steve Smith, who wanted to hide officers' names from the press.
STEVE SMITH LIKE GOD - OMNIPRESENT. EVERYWHERE. WHEREVER RAPE IS, STEVE SMITH THERE.
That's the kind of stuff that caused me to start wondering who he is.
GO ON HIKE, MEET STEVE SMITH. STEVE SMITH LIKE RAPE HIKERS BEST.
STEVE SMITH WILL CURE YOU OF WONDER.
AND MANY OTHER THINGS BESIDES.
STEVE SMITH
In real life he is just some guy that Matt Welch knows, I think. But he is a legendary ape-man with a penchant for raping unsuspecting hikers in many people's fevered imaginations.
Can you provide some other context perhaps? Something Welch wrote about him or something?
You can't fool us! You're the Steve Smith, fishing for information on your sworn enemies!
Got me! *slinks away*
Because he almost looks like this guy:
Steve Smith, child rapist
who is the rapist of the 6-month-old I mentioned earlier.
Can't find the first STEVE SMITH comments, but you should be able to learn what you want to know if you start here: http://reason.com/blog/2010/05.....d-the-stev
So, does anyone know what happened to Groovus?
So, does anyone know what happened to Groovus?
He went to Ukraine and was captured by a nice urologist (IIRC). I hope he is ok with everything going on over there.
I know that part, just reading through that old thread made me wonder what he's been up to over there.
He always seemed to want to find a nice woman and settle down. So hopefully that's why he disappeared and not some unpleasant problem with Russians or something. I can't remember where in Ukraine he was.
Was he the doc?
OK, I'm getting it now. Did anyone on the cruise get raped perchance?
According to some 1 in 5 passengers were raped or sexually assaulted. I don't buy it myself.
RAPE DENIER!!!
*points at Zeb excitedly*
RAPE DENIER!
A long time ago, I remember there being something called A Wiki Called Reason (or something like that) where famed trolls and memes would be explained. Along with the rules of the drinking game, IIRC. Maybe we should bring that back.
The drinking game was better back then....
For a magazine called Reason....
I seem to recall a belligerent dude who used to troll around here with an all-caps handle maybe 6 or 7 years ago, who went away once the rape meme got attached to him.
I always thought he seemed like a nice enough guy. And he took the Sasquatch rape stuff with remarkable good grace.

So the goal of universities now is to unleash a generation of delicate flowers unto the real world?
Um, yeah dude, that's always been the goal!
/horticulture major
Yeah, whatever....
/Bio Major breeding ever-deadlier Venus Flytraps
I got a flytrap plant once. It didn't live long, but it died with an Asian lady beetle in its clutches. Those things are a huge nuisance where I live.
RACIST!
So, the asian lady hit it with her car?
It's like Kent State, man! Students putting flowers in the gun barrels of the cis-priviliged, white patriarchy, man!
And then getting mowed down like the cattle they are by men of sturdier stock, like Russians, or South Dakotans..
The End
And how are they supposed to get SSNs anyway?
Perhaps they could be tattooed onto the students' arms?
Maybe sew some type of symbol on their clothing - a star or something - with the SSN on it.
Yellow would look nice - very cheerful!
This might be an option...

They're given to the privileged at birth, everyone else gets to wait decades or steal them from dead babies and felons.
Hey, I teach IT security, and that was the first thing I thought of. At most universities SSN's are blanked from most administrative screens except for those doing work that requires seeing them (HR, financial aid, payroll...).
But they seem to have allowed for that--the poster says 'authorized people click here'. So not only can citizens denounce the counter-revolutionaries, they can identify them with great precision. Madame Lafarge would be so proud. And Mao Zedong...
Go back to Africa, you don't belong here
So, if I proudly disclose my SSN in order to fill out on the form, have I committed another harassment bias?
It's just a happy bonus for them.
So, does filing stupid bias incident reports count as harassment and/or acts of intolerance?
The first link in this story is to where a bias incident can be reported. I would never, ever suggest that people file sarcastic reports to overwhelm their stupid system. That would be wrong.
And certainly not making a game of it. I mean, 100% of the complaints against the top two SSNs coming from each other for the world's longest "Yo Mama!" contest would just totally defeat the point.
An official who spoke with The College Fix clarified that "this in no way is meant to curtail free speech."
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
FREEDOM SHOULD MEAN FREEDOM FROM HAVING MY WITTLE FEELINGS HURT!
a "bias-motivated incident" occurs when an individual suffers an adverse consequence
Fixed
There should be a "Trigger Warning" for Gulag survivors here...
It's actually NOT immoral either, unless you commit an act of physical aggression against the other person, whether against his or her body or property. But if someone's wittle feelings were hurt, then that should be addressed by the owner of such feelings and not suddenly become someone else's burden.
Well, opinions differ on the morality of being an asshole or bigot. I don't think the NAP defines all of morality. Just what justifies the use of force.
Occurs when an individual suffers an adverse consequence
No! Not the adverse consequences!
And I totally trust their sincerity! I am sure that, as long as the expressions and the debates center on things everybody finds agreeable, then everybody is free to express themselves! See? Liberty! Tolerance! Openness.
Any conduct motivated by any bias based on any attribute? This literally--and I mean actually literally, not figuratively literally--encompasses all human interaction of any kind. Giving up my seat to an elderly person on the bus is conduct motivated by a bias based on the person's perceived age. Turning down a guy for a date because I'm not gay is conduct motivated by a bias based on the person's sexual orientation. Shopping at a grocery store in the nice part of town instead of the slums is conduct motivated by a bias based on economic means. And on, and on, and on...
CU has a reputation for being full of hippies, but this shit would have been laughed at by most people when I was there (graduated 2010). Granted, I didn't care much what the student government did at the time and it's probably true that most students there now still don't, so maybe this all happened under most people's radar.
The point is to allow the enforcers to act capriciously, targeting whomever they deem to have ungood thoughts. It is horse shit straight out of the old USSR.
Yeah, the problem with "bias" or "discrimination" being seen as necessarily bad things is that they just aren't. Discrimination can be good. Hiring the best candidate for a job is discrimination, for example.
Turning down a guy for a date because I'm not gay is conduct motivated by a bias based on the person's sexual orientation.
But you'd go on a date with a straight guy?
Gender, then, You know what I mean. _
Their definitions are actually very confusingly worded--they give one definition at the top for "bias incident" that specifies that the conduct must that which "demeans, degrades or harasses an individual or group" and limits its scope to the "protected classes" without the "other attribute" language, but then a paragraph later they more spefically break down "bias-motivated incident" which contains the all-inclusive language I quoted above.
Upon further reflection, I suspect that this is probably the point--the more vague these protocols are, the more difficult it will be for anyone to defend themselves against them.
I know. Just being picky.
You aren't allowed to turn down a gay guy if he asks you for a date, but he can't give you a blow job unless you say 'yes, I would like you to do that' at least three times. Two times is still rape.
Go back to Africa La Junta, you don't belong here
Yesterday I tried reading some lefty blogs, something I rarely do. It took me a few minutes to switch mental gears so that I could understand what they were saying. The articles are bad, but the comments exponentially worse.
They redefine common words and invent others out of thin air until they are speaking a language that is the inverse of English. So, with that practice under my belt, it isn't very difficult for me to translate this from Progspeak:
"This in no way is meant to curtail free speech"
Progspeak:
"This in no way is meant to curtail free speech" == "This in no way is meant to curtail speech you are free to use"
Translated...
It just totally does!
Reporting Form
They truly want students to spy on each other. I thought a student at Rutgers killed himself when he was spied on.

Why couldn't they have had this when I was younger? I could have reported all the "acts of intolerance" committed against me by pretty wimmen who turned me down just because I'm butt-ugly. Like Lady Gag-gag says: I was born this way!
My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My neighbour's sister has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out.

Look on the bright side. SJWs who spew hate at you for not being politically correct can now be charged with "acts of intolerance" just as easily as they charge others with them. And profs who engage in PC indoctrination can be charged with harassment or even discrimination!
But don't forget to make recordings and pictures, so that if (when) the rules are enforced in a one-sided manner, you can bring real charges against the bureaucrats who did so.
